snippet sunday - sunbringer's song

WOOOOO wowie wow wow!!!! okay, yeah, i am *very* close to finishing the prologue, but it's not quite done. but!! i wanted to share a bit of what i've gotten done for snippet sunday.

(or should i say... sunbringer sunday........ yeah i'll see myself out.)

content warnings for this excerpt: eye trauma, worms, worms going in someone against their will. y'know, bg3 prologue things. the actual gore isn't described in a lot of detail, but it's still very visceral because i'm focusing heavily on what eden is *feeling* in the moment. if any of that is an issue, please tread lightly !

A worm--a terrible, spiny creature, hissing and writhing in the mind flayer’s grasp. It snaps its jaws full of jagged teeth, and the freezing dread in his veins splinters as his heart leaps into his throat.

For what feels like several long, agonizing hours, the mind flayer lowers the worm down toward his face. He struggles, in vain, to jerk his head away, but whatever force is keeping his eye open holds him firmly in place. There’s nothing he can do.

A heartbeat passes, and the worm is on his face, his skin itching at the feeling of its claws.

Another, and it rears up, snapping its teeth as it drools in frantic anticipation.

And then, it dives into his open eye.

Half of his vision explodes, bloody and hot and agonizing like nothing he has ever felt before. He can’t see what’s happening, but he can feel every stab of the little monster’s teeth and pinprick claws as it rips into him. It’s a million fire-tipped needles slicing and tearing open his flesh, burrowing into his skull.

He wants so badly to scream, but no sound comes out as he thrashes about in his coffin. But the mind flayer is still holding him in place, watching him impassively as he bites back pained sobs.

Some time passes, he can’t be sure how long, but eventually his vision begins to clear, bit by bit. His head is throbbing anew and his sight is blurry and streaked with red, but it seems the worm has come to a stop, resting just behind his eye.

He lets out a shuddering, whimpering breath, then bares his teeth and looks back up at the mind flayer. It’s still watching him. All he wants is to claw those beady fucking eyes out of its skull, to make it hurt like it’s making him hurt, but he still can’t move.

“Fuck you,” he bites out, each word a ragged clot of blood and glass shards in the back of his mouth. The mind flayer does not react. After a moment, it waves its hand, severing whatever strings held him in place, and he falls limply back into his coffin, his left eye snapping shut reflexively.

Another wave of its hand, and the lid closes with another hiss.

OH GOODIE WATCH ME BECOME A UNSKIPPABLE CUTSCENE

It really depends on how much you wanna hurt. If you wanna start with light stuff, I recommend Generation one, or Rescue Bots (first or Academy, but rec you watch RB before RBA) or Botbots!! Medium light would be Transformers Animated. It starts out light but the series gets a bit heavy in the last half of the 2nd and run of the 3rd season. Same with Transformers Earthspark. Heavily say to avoid TFP. And if you want goofy stressed nonsense, Robots in Disguise 2015 is a good place. More anime based type would be RiD01 or TF Victory (PLEASe. Only the sub, the dub is AWFUL). Grittier shows would be the WFC series on Netflix, maybe Prime if you can handle bullshit that doesn't make sense and awful portrayal of trauma and lame edginess.

AS FOR THE COMICS

Well. It also depends on what you want. They are a mix of all depending on what one you're reading. The MTMTE/LL continuity is a continuation of G1 and OH MY GOD. You better not get attached to anyone or you will cry a lot. Shattered Glass is an inverted hellspace of pain and attachment and sorrow. The spotlights vary from volume to volume on quality (AVOID SPOTLIGHT ARCEE). the MLP crossover is very lighthearted and silly so its a good one to read. Don't recommend the GI Joe crossover comics. THE NEW COMIC LINE, Skybound, is really good but it DOES have some heavy stuff like on panel death and goreish as well as implied cannibalism and like... wowie Starscream is a menace and I love her for that. Like, full tw of shit like on-panel murder and like. Starscream blows up a hospital. Its goes from zero to 100 real damn fast.

yeah so that one don't track. you can hide rbs but the kicker is that you can't unhide them. unclear if you didn't know or if this is more misinformation, but personally I love that your reputation with that is so bad even terfs are calling it out when by all means, it's just a stronger route to cryptoterfs' same goals

I have been using Tumblr since 2012 and have not been aware of any functionality to hide a reblog in any of those 11 years. However, your anon message made me curious - "is anon confusing replies with reblogs? I know you can delete replies" - though to be fair, I've never done that on this blog.

So I went and found one of my posts, and clicked around, and wouldn't you know it, there is a "hide note" option.

Damn! I've just been letting bigots say shit because I thought I had no ability to get rid of it. In the past it was really bad because we couldn't even stop reblogs on posts, so if an asshole said something shitty, it was (as far as I knew) there for forever and there was nothing you could do to stop it from spreading. And with the "turn off reblogs" option, things improved, but it still meant that if a bigot said something, I had to lock down the whole post even if I felt it still had a good message.

So I will say: prior to like, 60 seconds ago, I was completely unaware this was a thing I could do, therefore, I absolutely have not EVER hidden a reblog on ANY of my posts because, swear to heaven and hell, it was not a thing I knew I could do.

It's not something I see myself using for discussions with TERFs. If I don't feel like continuing a conversation, I generally just... stop reblogging the post, and sometimes block the person. But I'll definitely use it for slurs and antisemitism and stuff like that, wowie.
