Coffee and Coding
A PangxWave Coffee Shop Au...
Wave was on the hunt for Wifi. That’s all he needed. He was in the middle of an extremely complicated coding assignment when his internet crashed at his apartment. If he didn’t get the assignment done in time, there was no telling what his Professor was going to think of him and he certainly wasn’t going to get the TA position he wanted so badly.
He stopped out of his apartment building and stalked the streets for a ‘free wifi’ sign. The first place he came across was a coffee shop. He wasn’t particularly a Java consumer but he was kind of desperate so he walked inside, his computer bag slung over his shoulder and walked up to the counter. He looked up at the menu and decided to order something completely at random because he had no idea what all of the different drinks were. To Wave, coffee was coffee. There didn’t need to anything fancy about it.
And yet, when he looked down from the menu, he almost dropped his computer bag and his order flew from his mind. The young man standing behind the counter was smiling at him so openly and unabashedly that it made Wave’s breath hitch. No one, especially not a complete stranger, had looked at him this way before. Wave’s eyes fell to the Barista’s name tag, which read: ‘Pang’.
When Wave did not immediately share his order, Pang smirked slightly and muttered, “Do you know what you want? I know our menu can be kind of overwhelming…”
“Uh….” Wave usually prided himself on being articulate but he could not seem to string a coherent sentence together.
“I’m going to be honest with you, I just started working here but, if you trust me, I can just make something and bring it out to you.” Pang suggested gently, noticing that Wave seemed to be indecisive.
Wave nodded slowly and held out phone to pay by ‘tap’ but Pang held out a hand to stop him. Pang explained, “You seem stressed. It’s on me. I’ll just cash it out as one of my practice drinks but, in return, you have to tell me how it is. Deal?”
“Deal.” Wave confirmed, still in a bit of a haze because of Pang’s kindness.
Pang nodded toward the tables in the coffee shop. “Go get set up and I’ll bring the drink to you in a bit. Our wifi password is ‘CoffeeisaGift’”
Wave nodded again and made his way over to a table to set up his computer. How the hell was he going to be able to focus on his work when Pang was so naturally distracting? Wave cursed himself for finding the Barista so interesting.
As much as he knew that he needed to get work done, Wave couldn’t help himself. He kept staring back at Pang who had an adorable look of concentration etched across his face as he worked on Wave’s drink. There was only so much Wave could do about concentration when a cute guy was going out of his way to make a drink especially for him. But, alas, he had work to do so he finally refocused and got to work on his assignment.
“Sorry it took so long. I wanted to practice some foam art.”
Wave looked up from his screen to see Pang hovering behind it, a steaming cup of coffee clutched between his hands. Pang had a nervous look on his face, his brows knotted together, and Wave had the sudden urge to reach up and smooth them out. There was no reason for Pang to be nervous - Wave would gladly drink anything he made.
“No problem. I was able to get a lot of work done.” Wave shared and a grin spread across his lips as Pang set down the mug to the side of his computer. “Thanks again for making me the drink.”
Wave looked down and saw a smiley face floating in foam at the top of the drink. . When he looked up, he saw Pang studying him expectantly. Pang obviously wanted to get Wave’s verdict on the drink and even though Wave was not a coffee connoisseur, he was the king of opinions.
He brought the cup to his mouth and took a small sip, making sure that he didn’t burn his tongue. The taste was sweet but subtle and shockingly the taste of coffee was not too prevalent, which Wave actually preferred. He put the cup down and looked up to Pang, “That is delicious. What’s in it?”
A look of amusement crossed Pang’s face and Wave wondered what could possibly be so funny about what he had said. Pang noticed Wave’s confusion and clarified, “You have a foam moustache. It’s kind of adorable.”
Before he could even process Pang’s words, Pang had grabbed a napkin and was wiping Wave’s upper lip with foam. No one, especially a stranger, had been in Wave’s space like this before but Wave was shocked to find himself completely comfortable with Pang’s presence. When Pang was done, he pulled away the napkin.
“It’s a latte with coconut milk.” Pang explained. “Natural sweetness from the milk and because I wasn’t sure if you were okay with lactose or not, I thought I’d go with an alternative.”
“T-thank you.” Wave managed to get out, sliding his hands around the mug once again. “It really is good, though. How long have you been working here?”
Pang seemed surprised that Wave wanted to continue the conversation and he checked behind him to see if there was any new customers lingering. When he saw none, Pang pulled out the chair and sat across from Wave at the table.
“I’ve been working here for just a few weeks.” Pang explained. “I go to Ritdha University so I live in the area too.”
“I go there too!” Wave expressed with a bit more enthusiasm than he probably should have. “What’s your major?”
“Oh, cool! I’m surprised I haven’t seen you around. Political Science.” Pang answered. “I want to be a lawyer or maybe work in government some day. What about you?”
“Computer science.” Wave responded and took another sip of his drink. “Actually, that’s why I’m here… my Wifi from my apartment went down so I had to come here to complete an assignment on time.”
“Oh, you mean you didn’t just come for the coffee?” Pang teased and leaned over to see what Wave was working on. “What’s the assignment?”
“Coding…” Wave felt his cheeks get hot. “Uh… it’s not that interesting…Geeky stuff.”
“That’s not geeky.” Pang sat back down and respected Wave’s privacy. “I think there’s nothing more intriguing than someone who is openly passionate about what they do, especially when it’s something that most people might not understand.”
Wave felt himself relax significantly because of Pang’s words. Wave tried to recall a time where he had instantly felt so connected to someone and couldn’t think of anything. There was something about Pang’s smile and energy that put Wave at ease.
“Why do you want to be in Politics?” Wave wondered, wanting to divert the conversation away from himself but also wanting to know more about Pang.
Pang got a serious look on his face and chewed his lip for a moment, clearly trying to put his thoughts together before sharing them with Wave. This was a quality that Wave couldn’t help but admire. Pang was really thinking about his response before he shared it.
“I want to help people.” Pang finally answered. “I think that sometimes people don’t have a voice because of certain societal limitations. I want to help people find that voice and help the world become a bit more just and equal.”
Wave was surprised by how mature Pang’s answer was, considering how young he looked. Wave figured they were around the same age. Pang had really thought about it while Wave had chosen technology because he had an affinity for it and had always been told that it would be a lucrative career path. His answer compared to Pang’s seemed juvenile and selfish.
“Wow, we’ve been talking this whole time and I still don’t know you name…” Pang prompted when Wave did not respond right away.
“I’m, uh, Wave.” Wave spat out, having been planning his response and compliment about Pang’s initial answer but felt more comfortable answering Pang’s question anyway.
“I’m Pang.” Pang shared, pointing to his name tag. “But I, uh, guess you already knew that. Anyway, sorry for chatting your ear off, I guess you probably need to get back to work instead of being distracted by an annoying Barista.”
“You’re not annoying.” Wave protested, wanting to make sure that his awkwardness was not coming across as disinterest. “The drink is amazing. Thanks again.”
Pang got up to his feet and smiled at Wave, “Well, I’m glad to hear that I’m not as horrible as I thought I was at making coffee. I should probably get back to work anyway…”
“O-okay.” Wave murmured, slightly disappointed, but he tried to keep his composure neutral.
Pang nodded and made his way back behind the counter and returned to his work tasks. Wave returned to working on his assignment, sipping away at the drink Pang had made him every so often as he got closer and closer to completing it. He was so lost in a world of binary that he did not even notice how dark it was getting outside. When he was finally done, he looked up from the screen and noticed that there no other customers left behind in the coffee shop.
Wave went to take one final sip of his drink and was surprised to find that it had gone cold. He drank it anyway and started to pack his things up, trying to see out of his periphery if Pang was still behind the counter or had already gone off shift. Wave picked up the mug to return it to the counter.
“All done?”
Pang appeared in front of Wave so suddenly that the mug slipped through his fingers in surprise. Thankfully, Pang reacted quickly enough and was able to catch the mug in his hands. Wave winced apologetically as Pang placed the cup on the counter.
“Not so good with your hands, are you?” Pang shared in a suggestive tone and Wave’s eyes grew wide in shock. Pang registered Wave’s reaction and quickly clarified, “I was kidding. Sorry. I shouldn’t be making jokes like that when we’ve only known each other for, like, five minutes.”
Wave’s gaze dropped to the floor to avoid Pang’s but after a quick breath, he looked up again and shared, “No worries. And, yah, I got the assignment done so I can sleep easy tonight… speaking of… are you supposed to be closed already?”
Pang smiled sheepishly and shrugged, “You just looked so focused and I did some extra deep cleaning. I really didn’t mind staying behind a bit later than usual.”
“You didn’t have to do that.” Wave muttered, a bit embarrassed that he had received special treatment and likely inconvenienced Pang.
“I know.” Pang confirmed, staring intently at Wave. “But I wanted to.”
“Oh…” Wave, once again, was taken aback by how straightforward Pang was. There was no BS, Pang seemed to the type of person who went for what they wanted, when they wanted. Wave was quite envious of that.
“Sorry if I’m making you uncomfortable.” Pang shared, “There’s just something about you that makes me want to get to know you more. You’re kind of an enigma, like a mystery I want to solve.”
“N-no it’s okay.” Wave assured him and a soft smile played on his lips. “I’m just not used to this kind of attention, especially not from someone like you…”
“Someone like me?” Pang echoed, clearly confused.
Wave considered his words carefully before responding, “Someone so confident, kind, friendly… I usually only get approached by people who want something from me… like, help on an assignment, want me to fix their computer, that kind of thing….You don’t need help with homework, do you?”
Pang chuckled lightly. “No, I think I’m okay. I’m sorry that’s your experience though. It probably makes it hard for you to trust people…”
“Yah…” Wave agreed, shocked by how quickly Pang seemed to be able to figure him out.
“Well, if you’re willing to take a chance on me, I would love to earn your trust.” Pang stated plainly. “Coffee’s great and all, but, would you maybe want to grab a drink with me sometime?”
Wave was at a complete loss of words. Was Pang, the adorable Barista, asking him out? He didn’t want to jump to conclusions too quickly so he tried to play it cool. He managed to get out, “Um, sure.”
Pang pulled a napkin from the dispenser on the counter and scrawled his number on it before passing it to Wave. “No pressure. Call or text me if you’re interested.”
Wave nodded, in a bit of a daze, and Pang guided him to the front door of the coffee shop, obviously needing to do some other last minute duties to close up the coffee shop. Wave walked through the door and turned to face Pang, who was hovering on the threshold, beaming at Wave.
“Thank you for the drink.” Wave murmured, and felt his cheeks grow hot before he blurted out, “I’ll text you later on tonight.”
Pang’s eyes lit up before he nodded, “See you soon, Wave. I look forward to getting to know more about you…”
With that, Pang disappeared back into the shop and locked the door behind him.
Wave, who had been so determined that the universe was against him when his Wifi stopped working that morning now was quite sure that he was meant to stumble upon that coffee shop on that particular day…
The universe might have taken his Wifi but it had given him the gift of Pang.

S.S. Desperation

A/N: More content for y’all from the paused fics file. Doesn’t have a definitive ending but probably won’t get one. Sorry!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Despite the fact that you had never been there, and had only spent a few hours there, Los Angeles looked like a chaotic, dismal mess. Even from a distance, you could practically hear the people yelling at each other over the obnoxious, blaring car horns that seemed so barbaric. It made you miss the silent serenity that was Bluebell. You scoffed to yourself, and shook your head as you finished your drink, almost disappointed with yourself for thinking that Bluebell was serene.
“I know that scoff.” A man with an accent you didn’t her back home chuckled next to you. You turned in your red heels and respectfully took off your sunglasses so he could see your whole face.
“I’m sorry?”
“That scoff.” He repeated as he showed you the blue wristband on his wrist, letting you know that he was part of the ‘singles cruise’ group, and reminding you that you needed to find a bracelet to cover the matching band you had on your own wrist. “That scoff either means ‘I can’t believe I let my friends talk me into this shit.’ Or ‘shit, I forgot my charger’.”
“Well, you happen to be wrong on both accounts.” You giggled in your Alabama accent. “I was scoffing because I had a brief moment of insanity where I thought that my hometown was serene.”
“What, you don’t think this is serene?” He joked as he gestured to the city in front of you. “Because I bet you win on that one.”
“I don’t get it.” You sighed as you pointed to Los Angeles in general. “Is it always so… loud?”
“I’m from New York, originally, so this is nothing on that. You get used to the noise, though.” He said as he reached up and pushed his long hair back behind his ear before leaning on the white rail. “And once you get used to it, it’s hard to live without it.”
“Oh, I didn’t sleep well at all last night in the hotel.” You said with a shake of your head as you put your sunglasses back on. “I’m used ta cicada’s and the state bird of Alabama flying in your ear.”
“What’s the state bird of Alabama?”
“Mosquitos.” He burst out laughing, and in the half second he looked away, you quickly fixed your hair and straightened out your thin strapped, light blue and white checkered dress from Draper James so that you looked presentable.
“So what’s your name, Ms. Alabama?”
“Lemon.”
“Lemon.” He repeated with a disbelieving tone. “Like the fruit?”
“The flower.” You giggled as as you pushed your hair back over your shoulder. “The lemon blossom.”
“I honestly don’t think I know what that is, sorry.”
“Oh, don’t be.” You said with a swipe of your hand. “Most people don’t. But now it’s your turn for a name.”
“Bucky. James, technically, but my middle name is Buchanan and I’ve gone by Bucky my entire life.”
“That is an interesting jump.” You laughed as you gently touched his arm for a moment, which made his gorgeous blue eyes dart down to the connection as if he didn’t believe it was real. “I like it all the same.”
“Can I get you a new drink?” He asked as he stood up and pointed to your empty glass.
“A Southern Belle.” You said as you handed him the empty glass with a smile. “Easy to remember, easier to make. Used to order it as a joke in college, but I’ve fell in love with it over the years.”
“One Southern Belle for the Southern Belle it is.” He said with a smile as he turned to head over to the bar. You habitually bit your lip to contain your smile for a second before mentally scolding yourself for doing.
“OK, so maybe this wasn’t the worst idea.” You set yourself up on one of the many lounge chairs on the back of the ship, where the singles group were told to meet in the welcome letter, and set your carry on bag on the chair beside you so that one of the other 100 singles didn’t claim it. You laid your dress out tastefully around your knees, the years of etiquette classes that had been pounded into every ounce of your being since birth still reigning supreme even though you had told yourself that you were not going to be the uptight Belle you were at home. You had a brief thought about taking your shoes off, when it was interrupted by a shadow and your drink.
“So let’s just get it out there.” Bucky said as he held out your cup while you put your bag down on your chair by your bent legs. You nodded your head and sat up just a little bit straighter in your lounge position as you took your drink from him with a smile. “What made you come on a singles cruise? And I know it wasn’t willingly, because you are way to gorgeous to have to resort to this to find a man.”
“Oh!” You gasped as you stirred your drink with a small shake of your head. “Well, I own a restaurant. Fancy’s, Bluebell’s number one fine dining restaurant… well, Bluebell’s only fine dining restaurant. And I should say ‘was’ because right now, it’s a wet ash covered mess because no matter how hard I work to go somewhere in my life, it seems to just burst into flames, figuratively and apparently literally. And on top of it, I have apparently ruined my reputation in the Southern social circle after getting left at the alter by my fiancé for another woman that didn’t even want him when push came to shove. So I was banished to the S.S. Desperation to find a man by my grandmother so I don’t become an old maid.” You gasped to catch your breath and quickly took a long gulp of your drink as Bucky tried to sort through your accent.
“Wow.” He said with a nod as he set down his beer. “OK, first of all, fire at the restaurant- is everyone OK?”
“Yes. Everyone is fine.”
“And, your hometown is called Bluebell?”
“Yes.”
“And your grandma made you come on the cruise because you got left at the alter?”
“Yes, well… in a round about way. Yes, she did.”
“Damn.” He said as he picked up his beer. “And I though getting dragged on to a singles cruise by friends after the Army was bad.”
“Oh, no. I’m probably the most screwed up person here, don’t worry about that.”
“No, doll. I’m almost positive I have you beat. See, I think you missed it but I was in the army. I willingly ran toward bullets and bad guys on a regular basis.”
“Thank you for your service.” You said quickly with a tip of your glass in his direction. “But I was Miss Cinnamon Cider…”
“I used to pick fights with kids twice my size with my boy, Steve, just because I could and I usually won.”
“I have worn a hoop skirt on a regular basis and not for Halloween.”
“I spent my cab fair trying to win a bear for some girl at Coney Island when I was a kid, and she didn’t even accept the bear when I won it so I had to carry it home on my back.”
“I raised my little sister when my mom walked out on us when I was 16.”
“I…”
“My grandmother forced me to go on a singles cruise.” You interrupted with a shake of your head. “I will always win here.”
“Alright, I’ll concede to that one just this time.” He chuckled as he tapped his bottle against your glass. “But this game is not done, Miss Apple Cider.”
“Miss Cinnamon Cider.” You said with a smile as you finally took your shoes off and pushed them down toward the end of the lounge chair. “And I can play this game all dame day. I lived in a small town where everybody is up in everybody else’s business. I got into a lot of fun in my day.”
“I got two weeks.” He replied as he kicked off his flip flops and got comfortable on his chair. “And probably just as many stories from growing up in Brooklyn.”
——
You were apprehensive about heading down the library, where the welcome event for the registered singles was being held. You could almost feel the desperation seeping through the door, and your stomach almost turned that you had been forced to debase yourself to this level, but at the same time, it wasn’t like there were any worth while options left in Bluebell. So just like you always did, you held your head up high, ran your hands over the front of your knee length black dress, and walked into the room.
“Hey! You made it!” You smiled at the sound of his voice and looked over at Bucky as he stepped away from the group of people he was talking to and came over to say hi.
“Didn’t realize I was late.” You said, honestly, as you kissed his cheek.
“You’re not.” He chuckled. “I’m just used to running fifteen minutes early.”
“See, now I didn’t want ta be standin’ down here all alone to add insult to injury so I’ve spent the last twenty minutes pacing my room.”
“Well next gathering, I’ll make sure I come get you so you’re not showing up early. Guys, this is Lemon. This is Sam, Karen, Channel, Steve, and Chelsea.”
“Kerri.” The first woman said as you shook her hand. “Your name is Lemon?”
“Like the flower.” You confirmed with a nod.
“So Bucky tells us you’re from Alabama.” Sam said as he sized up the new single woman in the group.
“Yes, I am.”
“She was Miss Cinnamon Cider.” Bucky said as he took a subtle half step toward you. “We have out very own beauty pageant queen, here.”
“It was a small pageant.” You insisted, modestly.
“My mother put me in beauty pageants when I was a kid.” Channel said as Bucky stepped away to grab you a glass of wine. “I think it’s monstrous to do that to kids.”
“My sister insisted on putting my nieces in pageants. Lasted about two months before my youngest niece flipped off a judge and the other one set the stage on fire. And good thing, too. Parent girls seem to always turn out… well… you know.”
“I feel like we should be concerned that your niece is a pyro.” Steve laughed, which made the small circle laugh as well. You nodded your head in agreement and startled the slightest bit when Bucky tapped your arm and handed you your glass.
“Got anything stronger?” You muttered under your breath before taking a drink as the small talk moved on to stories involving a camp fire. He looked over at you and smirked before nodding his head.
“Excuse us, guys.” He said as he put his hand on the small of your back and lead you away from the group, purposely taking your wine and putting it on one of the tables. “Let me show you something.”
“But your friends?”
“Screw ‘em.” He laughed as he pulled the door open for you and gestured you out of the library. “I see them all the damn time, and the whole point of this singles cruise is to meet someone you want to get to know. I met someone I want to get to know and I did my obligatory rounds on the deck and in that room when you left to take a nap and get ready.”
“So what, you’re not gunna give me a chance to shop around?” You teased as you stopped at the elevator beside him.
“OK, let me lay this out for you.” He said with a cocky smirk. “I know I rock a man bun, and I know I’m pretty buff. I know I’m pretty attractive but I’m no Dr. McDreamy by any stretch of the imagination.”
“The fact that you even know who that is is slightly disturbing.”
“My ex watched it.” He said quickly as he gestured you into the elevator in front of him. “Now, between me, and my two friends who you just met, we are the hottest guys in that group. I also know that you are not their type…”
“And I’m yours?” You interrupted again with a smile as he hit the 14 button.
“I haven’t figured that out yet.” He admitted as he leaned back against the wall and looked over at you. “But I’ll be damned if I have to compete with someone to figure it out.”
“And I have no say in the matter here, hmm?” You countered as the numbers rolled up to bring you to your destination.
“Oh, you do. Not interested? You are more than welcome to leave me by the pool and go back to the party. But my guess is, you will be as bored as I was. You’re looking for an adventure, Lemon. Let’s find it together. Even if it is for two weeks.” You stared at him in shock as the elevator binged and the door opened, and he gestured for you to walk out first. You took a half second to debate your options, before you took his hand and nodded your head.
“Alright.”
“Alright.” He repeated as he put his other hand on the small of your back and guided you out of the elevator. “We got about an hour until dinner. Want to watch the sunset?”
“Can I show you somethin’?” You asked as you stopped him from heading to the front bar on the lido deck. He nodded his head and let you turn him around to head toward the bar at the back of the deck instead. You placed two drink orders and continued walking along the deck, past the spa, and down the hallway of rooms on the floor.
“Wait, is this your room?” He asked as you stopped at the Cannes suite, which was the last corner room on the aft side of the ship.
“Please, please don’t look around.” You begged as you opened the door and stepped inside the unnecessarily large suite. He whistled as he followed you into the room with a shake of his head.
“Damn. I’m stuck in a tiny ass room with no view with Sam and Steve, doing toss ups every night for who gets stuck on the couch and you’re living like a Queen.”
“Well I deserve to live like a Queen.” You laughed as you tried to rush him outside to the back balcony so he wouldn’t see the ‘mess’ you had left behind, which realistically consisted of your dress from earlier that you had left on your bed and your two empty suitcases that hadn’t been pushed under the bed yet. “You know, beauty pageant and all.”
“Yea, I’m so sorry I brought that up.” He said as he held your hand while you sat down on one of the seats. “I didn’t realize those girls were so stuck up…”
“You get used to it over the years.” You said as you crossed your legs, smoothed out your dress, and turned toward him. “But it’s understandable. Most of us do turn out to be hot messes. But that’s what makes it fun, right?”
“Valid point. Looking back on it today though, would you do it again?” You sighed and took a sip of your drink as you thought back on your past.
“I don’t know.” You looked over at him with a small shrug and slowly spun your straw in your drink. “I did the pageants because my mama was a pageant queen. I was head cheerleader in high school, because my mama was. But my mama decided she didn’t wanna be a mama anymore and now, all those memories are tainted by the memory of the woman that didn’t want me.” You sighed and took another sip of your drink as bits and pieces of your life flashed by like a movie in your mind.
“I spent most of my childhood trying to be just like her. Everything I did was a mirror image of her life. But when I had to fill her shoes with Magnolia… my sister; she was only two. I just put my foot down, made an about face, and became everything she wasn’t. I worked… so hard… to become the strong woman I am today, but what’s the use? All I have to show for it is a failed engagement, a burned down restaurant, and I’m not even a Belle anymore.”
“What does being a Belle mean to you?”
“It’s everything.” You said instantly. “It’s the definition of being a proper lady. It’s charm, manners, and hospitality. It’s…”
“Doll, isn’t that exhausting?” He interrupted before you could go on. “Lemon, sit back in your chair for a moment. Like actually sit back and relax your back and shoulders. OK, don’t make it look so awkward.”
“It is awkward.” You said as you tried to get comfortable in this new position.
“Alright then, come here.” He said as he stood up and pulled you to your feet. He lead you over to the lounge chairs and sat down on one of them before putting his feet on either side of the chair. “Sit. No funny business, just a lesson.”
“This is not Belle behavior.” You informed him as you handed him your drink and sat down between his legs.
“Now sit back and relax.” He breathed as he handed you back your drink and gently pulled you back against his chest. “There. That’s comfortable, right?”
“Because I’m practically laying down.” You pointed out as you shifted a bit to find a comfortable spot.
“You’re letting life pass you by because you are so concerned with what everyone else thinks about you.” He whispered as he rested his chin on your shoulder. “You have manners, babe. You have charm, and class, and a whole lot of sass. But if I can be so bold, you are acting like an old lady to impress people that will never appreciate what you are doing. But let me ask you this… do you know what color my eyes are? Because I know that you spent an awful lot of time looking down to make sure your dress was pulled up to cover your cleavage and that it was covering your knees completely. Your glasses are a little see-through, doll so I saw it all. But did you?”
“They’re blue, right?” You said as you leaned to the side to look at him.
“Yea.” He huffed with a smile and a nod. “I know you were listening but how much were you enjoying just existing in the moment? Like now. Don’t look, what color is the sky?” You smirked as he put his hands up and blocked your view so all you could see what the white wall beside you.
“I don’t know.”
“But you made sure that your dress was covering your legs four times already.” He said as he moved his hands so you could see again. “You can still be a Southern Belle and enjoy life. And I assume that you are like this because you think that if you can control every aspect of every single thing in your life, that you can control all the outcomes of what’s going to happen. That you can stop yourself from turning in to your mother.” You couldn’t help but stiffen the slightest bit as you turned around to look at him in shock.
“I wouldn’t…”
“No, you wouldn’t. But I think you think you will if you aren’t the perfect Belle. My guess is, you hyper focus on the things she didn’t. Which is why you think a single dress on your bed is a mess.”
“How did you…?”
“I read a lot of psych books in the army. Gave me something to do. And the army made me pay attention to little details.”
“So you’ve been psychoanalyzing every move I’ve made all day.” You gasped as you sat up and turned on the chair to look at him straight on.
“Yep, just like you have been analyzing every single move I make to make sure I would be a respectable candidate to date a Belle should this turn into something serious.” Your jaw snapped closed and you huffed through your nose as he took a swing of his beer and pointed at the colorful sky behind you. “Your missing the show.”
“You are a monster.”
“Yea, yea. You love that you found someone who’s not afraid to put you in your place… you touch that dress again and I’m tying your hands behind your back with my shoelaces.”
“You know what, I’m workin’ real hard on not slappin’ you silly right now.”
“Yea, yea. Sunset. It’s almost time for dinner.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You planned on sleeping in on your first day at sea since it was supposed to rain all day, but apparently, sleeping in meant getting woken up at 7:30 when someone kicked your room door. You jumped and bolted up right in bed as the kicking continued.
“Alright!” You called out as you threw back the blankets and got out of bed. You adjusted your tank top and straightened out your bottoms before ripping the door open with a scowl. “What, is it OK to wake people up like that in New York?”
“I brought breakfast so you didn’t have to venture out in the rain.” Bucky said with a smile as he held up a full tray in front of you. “And coffee.”
“Never should have showed you where I was staying.” You grumbled as you pushed the door wide open and headed back in your room to go back to bed.
“Good morning to you, too, sunshine.” You grumbled ‘morning’ back to him and climbed right back into bed as he set the tray down on the table in the small living room. “Black?”
“Cream and lots of sugar.” He hummed to let you know he had heard you, and fixed your coffee as you curled back up under the blankets in your ice cold room.
“Here, scoot over.”
“I’m sleeping.”
“Well I want to sit anyways.” He said as he set your coffee down on his table and leaned over you to grab the remote from your bedside table.
“Why are you here?”
“Because I wanted to be graced with your pleasant presence first thing in the morning. Imagine my surprise when I found the wicked witch of the west in your bed instead.” You growled at him and scooted over a bit more so that he could get comfy as he looked for something to watch.
“You’re not very nice.”
“Drink your coffee, doll.” You peeled one of your eyes open to look up at him as he threw your blankets over his lap and sipped his own drink while watching the news. His smile grew and he shot you a wink, which made you groan and sit up.
“I want a refund on my single man choice.” You grouched as you held out your hand for your coffee. “I don’t do early mornings on vacation.”
“You don’t have two roommates that woke up at five AM to work out. I didn’t have a choice but to get up.”
“Shoulda got your own room.” You countered as you grabbed the remote and changed the channel.
“Or I could just continue to bug my new favorite person.” You scowled at him out of the corner of your eye as you pulled up the movies on demand menu and scrolled through the list. You took another sip of your coffee and stopped on ‘Hostel’.
“Think you can handle a little blood with your coffee?” You asked as you rolled your head, and looked over at him.
“You’re a freak.” He said as he reached out and hit play on the remote. “Trust me, I’ll handle it a lot better than you.”
“Sorry, sweetheart. Horror movies are my guilty pleasure. Bet you cringe before I do.”
“Oh, you’re on.” With a nod of your head, you paused the movie, and got up to use the bathroom and grab a sweater to wear until you got dressed while Bucky carried over the tray of food he grabbed from the buffet. “Don’t you dare put make up on!”
“I hate you!” You called out as you stopped unscrewing your mascara and threw it back on the counter. You finished up and grabbed an old, worn hoodie from your sorority days and pulled it over your head as you climbed into bed beside your new friend. “So where are your friends today?”
“They are meeting up with some of the girls they met last night for breakfast then going to the theater to play bingo and trivia or some shit. I don’t know, I didn’t look at the app this morning.”
“Oh, speaking of. There’s a hula class this afternoon I wanted to check out. You coming with me?”
“I will come and watch.” He said as he handed you half the bagel he had been putting cream cheese on and sat back against the head board.
“If you dance with me, I’ll let you sleep in here on the other side of a pillow wall so you don’t have to get up at 5 am as long as you promise to never tell a soul that I let you sleep in my bed.”
“Oh, you drive a hard bargain, Ms. Breeland.” He laughed as you hit play on the remote and sat back as well. “I promise my lips are sealed, and I promise I’ll dance with you.”
——
“You better put that camera down.” You giggled as you stood at the very back of the group of mostly older women, learning how to hula and the culture behind it. “And you promised you’d dance with me.”
“Oh no.” He laughed as he looked up from his phone and shook his head. “You are way better at this than I could ever be.”
“You’re just saying that.” You said as you slowly rolled your hips and moved your hands in little waves like the teacher was doing. “Because you can see my belly button.”
“It’s so scandalous.” He teased. “Such a scandalous belly button.”
“You hush. Come dance!”
“Two seconds.” He said as he set his phone down on the table, propped it up with his empty beer bottle so he could keep recording, and got up to come dance with you. “Alright, teach me.”
“I don’t know what I’m doin’.” You giggled as you looked over to see him tying up his above his belly button, too. “What are you doin’?!”
“Shh! I’m trying to listen!”
“Oh, my Lord!” You squeaked as you covered your face in embarrassment, but he reached over and bopped your arm.
“Pay attention!” He hissed with a smile as he shook his hips rapidly, purposely doing the exact opposite of what was being demonstrated to mess with you.
“Dang it anyway.” You sighed as you grabbed his belt loop. “Slow… like a gator crossin’ the road on a hot summer day.”
“I’m from New York.” He chuckled as he let you push his hips back and forth. “We don’t have gators except for in the sewers.”
“Our mayor has a pet gator named Burt Reynolds… alright, just come here.” You sighed as you pulled him over toward you. “Feel the waves move the boat.” You said as you put his hand on your hip. “The gentle back and forth. Feel the rhythm down to your very core.” He nodded his head and let you guild him the way you wanted him, which was his intention all along.
“You have that down very well.” The instructor said on her way past.
“Thank you.” You said softly as you moved your free hand into Bucky’s. “Like a wave.”
“I think you are much better at this than I am.” With a giant smirk, you shrugged your shoulders and looked away from him for a moment.
“Hey, you said it.” He laughed and stopped dancing as he turned his hand to lace his fingers with yours.
“Come on. We’re the only ones still dancing.” Your hips stopped moving as you turned around to look at the group that was slowly starting to head off in different directions.
“Oh! Well that was fast.” He nodded his head as he grabbed his phone to turn off the video.
“Wanna go wander around…?”
“You wanna go dance in the rain?” You asked him as you picked up your small purse. He looked at you with his eyebrow raised before he huffed and shrugged his shoulders.
“Why the hell not? Let’s swing by my room so I can grab some dry clothes for dinner.”
“Just… grab your whole suitcase.” You said quickly as you looked away for a moment. You reached up and bit your thumb nail before shrugging and looking up at him again. “Even if this goes absolutely no where in two weeks when the boat docks. You said it yourself, might as well have fun while we can, right?” He stood almost frozen and searched your steel blue eyes for almost a solid minute as he figured out how to phrase what he needed to say.
“As friends.” He clarified as he held your hand a tad bit tighter. “I expect nothing from you, OK? I will happily take every moment I can with you and I do not mind sleeping on the far side of a pillow wall or even on the couch if that’s the case. I will let you make whatever calls you want to make, and I will move at a glacial pace until you make a move otherwise, OK? I am in no rush.”
“I know.” You said with a small bob of your head. “I can tell you have class.”
“I mean, I try to at least.” He joked as he used his hand to pull yours until you turned around to head toward the elevator. You stopped short of the doors and pulled him to a stop as you spun and pointed at him, as threateningly as you could.
“You better not wake me up at five AM to go work out, you hear me?”
“Oh, I’d be way to scared to do such a thing. Pretty sure you could rip my face off if you were pissed.”
“I am a Southern woman.” You said seriously as he pushed the up button for you. “My method of warfare is purely psychological.”
“That’s an even scarier thought.” He chuckled as he followed you in and pushed the button for the tenth floor.
“Why, I’m an innocent angel.” You joked as you tried to make your smirk look as innocent as possible.
“Ha! I severely doubt that.”
“So, are your friends are gunna be mad you ditched them?” You asked as you reached out to pull the hair tie off Bucky’s shirt for him.
“Probably won’t even notice. My guess is, if they even go back to the room, it’ll be to just shower and change before they run out again.”
“Y’all met in the army?”
“Steve and I have known each other out whole lives.” He said as he gestured you out of the elevator in front of him. “We met Sam at the VA couple years ago. He was in the air force. Steve just kinda adopted him one day and he never went away. Pain in the ass.”
“So you’re secretly in love with him.”
“Yea!” Bucky laughed as he stopped at his room door and pulled out his room key. “Yea, totally secretly in love with him.”
“Hey, whoa!” Someone yelled from in the room as you and Bucky stepped inside. You ran into Bucky’s back and he turned around with a loud laugh.
“Keep the bed, Wilson. I’m just grabbing my shit.”
“What, you goin’ to stay with that hot Southern chick or did you find another single…”
“I’m right here!” You called out as you stuck your hand out to the side around Bucky and waved.
“Shit. Sorry!”
“Are you two decent enough that I can grab my shit or what?”
“We’re decent!” A woman called out, which made your cheeks flush a bit in embarrassment not just for you, but for her as well.
“I’ll just wait in the hall.” You giggled as you turned and walked out of the room with your hands over your cheeks. You heard it close behind you and you walked a few feet away to safely burst out laughing as quietly as you could. You had just started catching your breath when Bucky stepped back out of the room with a duffle on his shoulder, a pile of shirts in his arms, and an empty bathroom bag and all his bathroom products on top. You looked over at him as the door closed and your laughs bubbled to the surface again. “Way to go, sugar!”
“How was I supposed to know he was gunna be banging some chick?” He asked as you grabbed his bathroom bag and started putting his things in it for him as you headed down the hall toward the back of the boat.
“We just ruined their whole afternoon.”
“No we didn’t. They’re probably right back at it already.” You shook your head and shuttered as you reached out and tried to take the pile of dress shirts from his arms for him, but he pulled away. “Not happening. You have your hands full with that very important bathroom bag.”
“And why is it so important?” He huffed and stopped at the second set of elevators.
“Because it’s in the hands of this gorgeous woman I know.”
“You are just trying to butter my biscuit today, aren’t you?” You giggled as you stepped into the elevator and hit the button for the fourteenth floor.
“I’m sorry, what the hell did you just say?”
“You… are… just…”
“OK, I heard you!” He laughed as he adjusted his bag on his shoulder. “I’ve just never heard someone say that before.”
“That’s because you’ve never met someone like me.” You reminded him as you stepped out of the life and turned to head back to your room.
“You are definitely one of a kind, doll. Definitely one of a kind.”

What do I zoo?
I am very sorry for the title.
Summary-Dan and Phil are dating, and Dan has been desperately trying to get Phil to join his friends instead of staying with his mean ones. Maybe all of that will change when Dan has a panic attack at a zoo.
This is my first fic and i would highly appreciate any feedback you could give me. :)
\\\\
Dan was just about to open his locker when he felt arms wrap loosely around his waist. He strained his neck to look behind himself at Phil, who looked like he hadn’t had his usually obscene amount of coffee.
“I woke up late and didn’t get to have any coffee before I left. I had to drink it on the way to school Dan, it was horrible. I’ve only had a cup so far and I just want to go back to bed.” By now his face was shoved on top of Dan’s shoulder as Dan tried to put all of the things he didn’t need away.
“And here I thought you were sad about seeing the penguins. Really made me worried there bud, as yesterday you might have actually squealed when you talked about them.” Dan said, as the whole biology class was going to the zoo today.
“No, pretty stoked actually. It was the only way my parents could bribe me out of bed this morning. I just wish I could have grouped with you.” Phil said as he lifted his head and pouted at Dan. He turned to look at Phil again, this time pecking him on the lips.
“Oh come on Phil, no one wants to see you and him making out, it’s disgusting.” Ah, and how Dan wished that Phil would leave his current friend group. Phil blushed horribly as he jumped away from Dan, looking over at Jace, who was walking up with Kai and Mick.
“Sorry, um are you guys excited for today?” Phil asked, still blushing.
“Excited for what, seeing animals? I feel like Mrs. Matthews thinks we’re all five or something. Explains why you’re excited Phil.” Jace scoffed and his minions laughed a bit too loudly for the cringy joke that a five year old could make, just saying. Dan leaned over to Phil and whispered that he might see him later if he’s lucky, and kissed him on the cheek just to see the three douche’s faces. He waved and left to wait for his friends to show up.
He had tried many times to convince Phil to come over to Dan’s friend group, but Phil won’t budge. He says that “sometimes they aren’t that bad” or “if I leave then they might become bullies because they won’t have me to bother anymore”. While it could be true, and Phil always smiles his way out of the conversation, Dan can tell that his smile is not very sincere.
“Dan Howell I am going to scream if we don’t see the sloths first.” said Keith as he walked to his locker, which Dan was currently leaning against. Dan pushed himself off of it with a smirk and stood behind Keith so that he could sort through his things. Keith is a very excitable sloth enthusiast who had been friends with Dan for four years.
“Whatever you say, it’s fine with me,” Dan said, and as Keith started to get even more excited, continued, “but it isn’t me you need to convince-it’s Rory.” And there goes the classic Keith eye roll. Rory was by far the ‘leader’ of their group. But unlike Phil’s friend group, Rory being the leader meant that he was their protector. All of them were kind of targets for hateful remarks, and they don’t really defend themselves because. . .well because they’re terrified to. Especially Lily-the newest addition to their group of losers. She was new last year, and constantly had the look of a startled deer, so Rory decided to take her under his wing and now she’s in the clan of four. She is very shy, even around the group, but she is the sweetest bean Dan had ever met-besides Phil.
Dan and Phil met each other in eighth grade, they were in the same algebra class and started to hang out with each other as no one else would pick them for groups. They were kind of forced together in a way, but Dan could never be happier that it happened.
\\\\
Dan spotted Phil as he boarded the school bus, and for a second his heart jumped because he thought he could sit by him, but he was sitting by Mick. Then he remembered that if Phil was with him, then Phil would get bullied. Mick is probably the most tame from Phil’s group. Phil is his neighbor and their families are best friends. Maybe Phil thought that he would have no one if he didn’t join the group that Mick was in, but he would have people now and it still makes Dan angry. Instead of showing that internalized anger, he just smiled at him when he caught his eye, and sat down by Rory.
“He’s still hanging out with those guys, seriously.” Rory exclaimed, probably a bit too loudly. Rory had always wanted to be able to protect Phil as well, but Phil wouldn’t leave.
“Yeah, I think I’ve finally gotten through to him a bit but he still won’t leave them.” It was true. Dan was starting to notice Phil’s face getting filled with hope at the possibility of having true friends when Dan would give him the option, but then that hopefulness would fall as Phil’s doubts took over.
“Well I hope he joins us soon, its sad seeing someone who you care about looking so miserable around people who are supposed to be his friends.” Tell me about it.
\\\\
They ended up going to see the sloths first, as according to Rory ‘no one can resist Keith's begging face’ which is a fair point. Lily actually seemed to be comfortable today, she didn’t jump as much and she gave input in their conversations.
About a fourth of the way through their visit, Dan had to go to the bathroom. He told the group and they said they would wait for him by the lions. It might have been a good idea for Dan to have remembered where the lions were and did Dan mention that his biggest fear is getting lost. Dan tried desperately to find a map but he couldn’t, especially with the tears starting to blur his vision. After that he could feel that air was not going into his lungs as they should be and-yep there goes the hyperventilation.
Dan started speed walking while turning his head in every direction, probably looking insane with tears streaming down his face. After walking for about two minutes, he spotted not his friends or the lions, but Kai-the most physically abusive of Phil’s friends. While Jace relied on mean remarks, Kai shoved people and tripped them every chance he got. But hey, Kai being there meant that Phil wasn’t that far away.
Dan, despite his heart beating even faster than previously, walked towards Kai. No, he wasn’t going to talk to him, just watch him to see if he goes to where Phil is. Turns out he does, as in less than five seconds of watching him Kai runs back up to where the rest of Phil’s group is. Oh Dan is gonna look like a fool but this is slightly-less-hyperventilating-because oh there’s a solution-Dan’s only option. Dan starts running over and discreetly walks around to the front of the group, then turns around because obviously he has to act casual. Dan starts to realize his flaw as Phil’s face immediately grows with concern and oh right, Dan had been crying freaking rivers.
Deciding to just screw casual Dan runs into Phil’s arms and balls, because he was stressed and Phil makes him release his stress and if that release is by crying then so be it.
“Oh baby whats wrong, are you okay? No Phil obviously he’s not okay you dingus-”
“Get him away from here, the fairy boy has his other fairy friends to cry on.” Jace said and then made a gagging noise, how wonderful of a human being.
“Lets go sit on the bench okay?” Phil whispered in Dan’s ear. He nodded and they started walking towards the edge of the huge path.
“Don’t wait up for me guys, you can go.” Phil called over his shoulder as they left, although they both knew that they had already started walking away. It just helped Phil feel more appreciated.
They sat on the bench with Dan cuddled into Phil’s side until he calmed down enough to talk, and then Dan started rambling all of the events that had happened that led to his panic attack.
“Did you try calling them?” Phil questioned as Dan face palmed.
“No cause I am a stupid person who forgets basic solutions in times of crisis.” Phil just giggled and asked Dan to guide him towards the bathroom he used, and oh wow there they were. Of course Rory had one of those portable zoo maps with him. Rory was just taking his phone out of his pocket, to call Dan he supposed when they walked up. When Rory saw Dan he immediately was swept up in a lanky hug, and then everyone started talking.
“Where did you go are you okay-”
”We waited by the lions but then Keith saw funnel cake, but the line was ridiculous, we thought that you might have gotten lost when you didn’t come back after a while but we couldn’t leave until Keith got his god damn funnel cake.” Keith then held up a funnel cake as proof as Lily glared at him. And Dan had never seen Lily get so feisty, it was exciting.
“We are so sorry we didn’t think Keith would be gone long.” Rory said, his arms finally releasing me. His eyes then wandered up about four inches behind me.
“Oh hi Phil.”
\\\\
Phil spent the rest of the day with their group and Dan had never had so much fun. Usually even in his happiest moments with his friends he would wish that he could share them with Phil, but Phil was there. On the bus Phil found his ‘friends’ and told them that he didn’t want to hang out with them anymore, to put it simple, although Dan thought he heard a few words from both parties that he didn’t want to repeat. Dan napped on Phil’s shoulder the rest of the way back to the school as Phil got to know his friends better. It was a weekend which meant that Dan would be staying at Phil's house for the night, as per tradition.
\\\\
Dan and Phil could finally say that they were content in life, and that is all they had ever asked for.
The enderino.
Ta-ta for now my dudes-Nat

JBJ Enemies to Lovers Series: Exchanged Student (4/7)
Takada Kenta x OC
Type: bulletpoint scenario
You were close to failing one of your classes
And you were so desperate to pass this subject just so you could get through the semester
So you asked your professor if you could do any other activities for extra credit
And he was honestly close to dropping you from class but of course he felt bad
Because you were better in other subjects
But you just sucked in his own class
So he decided to let you do some tutoring on one of the subjects you were best at
He found out you were best in languages so he set you up as a tutor for one of his students from another class who had a hard time conversing with other people
Mainly because of his lack of understanding the language
And because he was a foreigner
So you just shrugged and took the chance because you really needed to pass
“You start tutoring him by tomorrow. I want you both to meet every 6pm at the library from Mondays to Fridays, maybe also Saturdays if you both had the time, and have two hours of tutorials for the next three months of the semester.”
And you agreed immediately before even asking about the student you were supposed to handle
“Gotcha, sir. I’ll do my best.”
So the day after that, you finished all your classes by 5:30pm
You had a little bit of time to get something to eat in case you get hungry
But the cafeteria was so full that time so you just went to the vending machine
“I hope there’s still those potato chips I loved”
You walked your way to the vending machine to see some guy getting the same chips
And you were afraid it might have been the last bag so you hurriedly went to the vending machine and stood next to him
And well, you were right
He got the last bag
You looked at him and pouted
And he just looked back with a confused expression as he ate the chips
“May I help you?”
“Yeah, those chips…”
“Oh, I’m sorry… I’m really hungry and I have no time to eat, goodbye.”
He just left as he ate the chips and you were shookt
You just sighed as you looked back at the vending machine
And all that was left were some chocolates and two other junk that you didn’t really like
“Fine I’m getting a Kitkat then”
So you got the Kitkat and ate it as you walked your way to the library to find your student
Your professor told you beforehand that there was a tutorial area by the computer room in the library
And you figured your student was already there
So you went to the tutorial area to find your student
But you got confused so you just walked around first
You were relieved to see one of your classmates from one of your classes in there tutoring someone else
So you just went up to her and asked
“Hey, do you happen to know a foreigner here?”
“Most students getting tutored here are foreigners, though”
“Oh right, mine happens to be Japanese”
“What’s his name?”
“Ta…Takada… Kenta?”
“Oh that guy with the red sweater at the next table”
You looked over and he was already looking at you too
And you were shocked it was the same person who took the last bag of chips you wanted
“What fate”
You just went up to him and sat next to him as you smiled
“Hi, I’m y/n. Your tutor.”
“Oh, the girl who wanted the chips, my bad. They were good, though”
Is he serious
“Can he be at least happy I didn’t snap at him or something”
“Be thankful I’m nice, kid”
You just continued on and taught him mainly the basics of the Korean language even with those thoughts
But he was getting a bit stubborn whenever you taught him everything from the beginning
“I already know this????? Can’t we advance”
“You need to learn the basics properly before we could advance”
He was becoming a headache the more you taught him that day
Because he kept acting like he already knew this and that
So you tested his skills and did a spelling quiz
You only gave a few sentences and he just nodded as he wrote all of them
So once you were done he gave his paper
And you were mortified to see he only got 2 out of 10 sentences right
“Are you kidding me”
“Was I good?”
“Not a bit”
So he just sighed and told you the two hours was up
And you looked at the clock to see you had ten minutes left
But once you turned back to look at him he was already out the door
“This kid is a bit of a prick”
So the next few weeks of you tutoring him were kind of the same
He’d often say he knew this, he wanted to learn that
But you did see him gradually become better in Korean
And once the semester was almost over, so were your sessions
“Hey, you’re getting better in Korean than I expected”
“Thanks, I’ll ace the test for sure”
You were glad to know you passed your class in the end with the help of the extra credit you did for your professor
And your professor told you that Kenta passed his language skills test too
You were really happy for him
But you knew you’d probably end up not having to be friends with each other
So you just sighed and moved on
Until
You were lacking a few credits for your whole school year
Which meant you’d have to take one summer class
And you just felt your world break down because you didn’t know what to take
You directly ran up to the registrar’s office to check on classes you could take
And the only ones available for summer were mostly language classes and some minors
You knew for sure you didn’t want to take any minors at all so you just checked on the language classes list
“French… Spanish… Italian… Chinese…… Japanese?”
You then thought, hey why not take Japanese
Kenta did teach you a few words back then
So you signed up for Japanese classes that were to start in two weeks
And boy, did you just regret it
You widened your eyes as you looked at the board with all the characters you needed to learn by the end of the week
And you were so frantic about the whole learning system you definitely needed help
So you went to the registrar again to ask her if you could have tutorials for Japanese language
“We don’t have any tutors that specialize in those subjects, Ms. y/n, we’re sorry”
Bummer
So you decided to go to your old professor again in hopes he could help
And he suddenly remembered one specific person
“Why not ask Kenta?”
“What, no? Is he even here for summer classes?”
“It’s his last semester here before he goes back to Japan”
And you were shocked but then again you thought he probably missed his home
So same as your schedules, you both would meet on weekdays at 6pm
But you asked the professor to tell him to just meet you at the gates instead and have your tutorial elsewhere
Like probably as parks, cafés, even restaurants if it was possible
So he agreed and told Kenta himself
The day after that you waited for Kenta first at the gates of the campus
You finally saw him after ten minutes walking with his head down
And you called him once he was nearer
“Kenta! Thanks for accepting the tutorial offer”
But once he looked at you he just chuckled and his expression was quite off
“You again?”
“Excuse me?”
“Did you tell Mr. Jeon you wanted me as your tutor just to spend more time with me?”
“What the hell Kenta I just wanna pass this class”
“Sure you do”
Wow was he quite full of himself
So you decided to go to this café nearby because there were also study desks which were convenient
And Kenta just followed you all the way with his hands in his pocket
You immediately got a desk fit for two people and ordered for both of you too
“I ordered some pasta for each of us if you don’t mind”
“Whatever”
You just gave him a confused look but nonetheless grabbed out your Japanese learning book
And he just chuckled once he saw the book
“Are you serious are we really gonna have to learn using this book”
“But I do need notes too????”
“Yes but books aren’t always accurate you know”
“Can you just teach me properly”
Like the beginning, he taught you stuff you already knew aka the basics
You were a bit impatient and worried because he was teaching you the basics over and over again
“I know you’re Japanese but can you at least teach me some other stuff”
“You were like this to me last semester and now I’m just doing the same”
“Huh???”
“We’re exchanged students you know”
“What do you mean”
“I was your student, now you’re my student. So we exchanged roles”
You got so confused on how he just interpreted everything
But shrugged it off and just listened to him teach you
And to your surprise, he wasn’t really a bad tutor at all
You didn’t notice you both were talking for the past two and a half hours
So you just told him it was time
“But I thought we were gonna have tutorials for three hours???”
“Nope, bye”
You swiftly walked away and he just decided to go out as well and follow you out
“So, see you tomorrow?”
“Yes, and prepare for a quiz”
“What???”
“You gave me a quiz on our first session when you were my tutor, you’re lucky I didn’t remember earlier on”
Wow was he really this kind of person
So you just waved and said goodbye as you ran off to get a bus home
He just laughed as he looked at you running off
And he thought you looked cute too
For the next few weeks he was quite helpful in a way since he taught you what he really knew
And slowly you guys became closer
Kinda
Plus you got to know him better a bit too
But next few sessions were almost just the same
He taught you the ones you already knew about the language
So you figured he was just making sure you knew the basics before going further
But what worried you was that even though your tutorial sessions weren’t advancing a lot
Your classes were
“Ms. y/n, you’re doing pretty bad on your quizzes and summer classes are about to end. Is something bothering you?”
“None, ma’am. I do have a tutor, I’ll go over this with him.”
So that time you marched your way to go to Kenta as he was the one who waited for you at the gates this time
Once you saw him you just slammed the quizzes you failed on his chest
And he was startled at what you just did
“If we don’t go over this tonight I’m going to fail”
“Are you sure you want to go forward this much”
“If I actually fail I’m going to push you off a cliff”
He suddenly became quite remorseful over what he was doing to you for the past few weeks
So once you both got to the café you both frequently had tutorials at
He immediately went over the quizzes with you and actually taught you properly this time
And you were relieved because you learned quickly after all the classes and him explaining to you accurately too
So once you both were done for the session hat time you felt confident enough to pass the class
And you looked at Kenta once you both got out of the café
“Why did you keep teaching me the most basic stuff?”
“I won’t lie to you when I say learning Japanese is a long process. And I wanted to push your buttons at times so I just did that.”
“I know, but you could at least teach me the ones that were covered in class”
“As long as I can help you pass this time, I’ll do it”
You were surprised at how he was actually willing to help you pass
So as a thank you gift you asked him to have dinner with you at your favorite chicken place
“Wait, just the two of us??”
“Why not? We’re just gonna eat and talk anyways”
“But would people think we’re dating?”
“They don’t peep into our business anyway so come on”
You dragged him to the restaurant that was just a a block away
And you ordered a lot of chicken for just the two of you to eat
Because the seats around the restaurant was becoming quite limited due to the number of people
You ended up sitting next to each other
But you both didn’t mind either since you both just really wanted to eat
“Dig in, my friend”
Kenta loved eating chicken and so did you
And while you both were eating you both ended up having a proper conversation
You both got to know each other better and you thought it was really nice
And he started to open up to you as well
He admitted he was usually nice around people but he started to become really shy
All because his Korean wasn’t really good before
But he thanked you for helping him out and he said he wants to make sure you were gonna learn Japanese as soon as possible too
He even said he’d be your tour guide if ever you wanted to visit
Midway to you two eating you had ketchup on the side of your lip
And Kenta noticed this and just looked at you
“Yes?”
“Ketchup on your lip”
“Where?”
“Sigh, I’ll get it”
He grabbed a napkin as he wiped the ketchup off of your lip
And you smiled as a thank you
But he ended up staring at your lip and then to your eyes
And you ended up staring back at him too
It went like that for a short while
Until
Dun dun dun
Kenta just goes in and kisses you
And you close your eyes for a bit but opened them after like two seconds after realizing
“Oh shit did he just”
He widened his eyes at what he just did and ended up looking down
“Holy shit why did I kiss her”
He slowly looked at you again and you were just looking at your plate of chicken
“Did I just-“
“Let’s finish eating”
So he just nodded and went back to eating
It then became quite awkward the more you guys ate and sat together
So once you both were done you both just paid and skedaddled out
You forced a smile as you waved goodbye to Kenta
And he just gave you a nod and went the other way
You couldn’t help but blink a lot while walking because you were so stunned over what just happened
“Why did he kiss me”
“Did he do that on purpose or”
On the other hand, Kenta just walked fast and decided to get a taxi home
He was mentally punching himself over and over
Because what the hell did he just do
“Shit what happened”
“And I thought these things only happened in movies"
He tried to calm himself down as he got a taxi and went straight home
The next day during your class you couldn’t think properly
Mainly because of what happened last night and it got to a point where you almost forgot everything you learned from Kenta
Then suddenly, you snapped back in reality and realized you knew a lot of what the teacher was talking about the whole class
In which, you became so excited and thought
“Wow, I better tell Kenta this”
but then again
“Oh right, the kiss happened”
But heck you wanted to just get over it
Because you thought Kenta was in a daze that time and just accidentally did it
Or so you believed
So once class was over you tried to contact Kenta
And you were relieved he answered back your call
“Hey, uhh, so my classes officially end tomorrow and it’s also gonna be my final test so can we-“
“Meet me at the gate in five minutes”
Wow he sounded really serious
But yes you were actually going to ask him to meet with you
So once you got to the gate you already saw Kenta walking back and forth while looking down
And you knew right then and there what happened the night before was still in his mind
So you ran up to him and he got startled on your arrival
“Hey, Kenta, I just want to thank you so much I actually learned a lot and understood my professor this time”
“That’s nice, y/n, but-“
“And I hope we can have an extra hour of tutorial I really need you to help me this time”
“Sure I’ll do that but y/n-“
“Oh and what happened last night, please forget it”
Then he suddenly became quiet, and you did too
You both ended up looking at each other for quite a while again until he broke the silence
“I’m leaving Saturday night”
“Leaving… where?”
“For Japan, I’m going back”
And you felt your heart drop for some reason
Because as much as you hated him the first time you met him
And you were sure he felt the same in the beginning but not sure about now
You felt a connection with him that you really felt like you were surely gonna miss him
Sure communications through e-mails and kakaotalk was possible
But it really would feel different if he just wasn’t physically there
You did realize that of course, he has to go back
And letting go was just the best option because you can’t just stop him
“Okay. So, can we have an extra hour tonight?”
“Alright”
So he did his best on helping you out for finals that night and made sure you understood even the harder questions you were always sidetracked by
And you both didn’t really waste time and kept on going back and forth your notes
In the end, you felt ready for finals because he was for once very serious with you
And you suddenly felt butterflies in your stomach whenever you noticed he’d glance at you as he continued on teaching lots of words
But then again, you just had to accept reality that you might not see him again for the longest while
After you both were done with the tutorials, Kenta felt awkward being with you for too long
And asked if he could go ahead home
So you just nodded because you knew how he felt
You just shrugged it off because you really wanted to pass the test
So yes, finals have arrived
You looked at the paper and thought, hey I could probably do this
And you totally did know a lot of the questions
You actually felt like you would definitely pass this class
Once you were done you called Kenta
But he wouldn’t answer his phone
So you suddenly got worried and ran towards the gate
He wasn’t there
Obviously, you thought
So you dialed his number for more than 11 times and he finally answered
“Sorry, I was packing my stuff”
“Please meet me right now”
“I’m at home though”
“Where do you live”
He gave you his address then and there and you quickly went to his apartment
Where you saw a few boxes of his stuff around the living room
He was running around cleaning and fixing the boxes
And you just looked at him
Then you suddenly blurted out
“Please don’t leave”
And he just stopped once he closed one of his boxes while his back was turned to you
You thought he didn’t hear so you just ran and backhugged him
“I said please don’t leave”
Kenta couldn’t hide his grin off of his face but he tried to remain calm
“Why not”
“Because for some reason I’m really going to miss you and end up looking for you everyday”
Oh how his heartbeat started going faster as he was trying to hold in his laughter
“Are you somehow saying you like me?”
You widened your eyes but you knew that it was now or never
“Yes, I like you a lot Kenta and even though we didn’t start in a good note and we were just plainly hateful of each other, I felt a connection with you that I don’t even understand myself”
He just sighed and turned to look at you
“Hey, I like you too.”
And you just couldn’t hide your smile
Your cheeks were starting to burn up and you knew then and there you were blushing
“Also, I need to tell you one thing”
“What is it?”
“I’m not leaving, I’m just moving apartments.”
“Excuse me?”
You were baffled as he told you this
And Kenta laughed so hard he almost fell on the box he was standing next to
“I wanted to scare you for some reason”
He said as he just hugged you tightly and you buried your face in his chest
“Good job idiot you scared the fuck out of me”
“I’m sorry, but I’m here whenever you need me”
“I need you to make me dinner because I’m starving”
“I didn’t major in food business in high school for nothing”
