Several weeks ago one of my coworkers called me over into her cubicle and gave me a very unexpected gift. Her mother passed away recently, and she'd been packing stuff up at her condo to give to relatives and sell, so the home could be sold. The mother was an avid knitter and crocheter, and when my coworker came upon her stash of equipment, she told me, she "immediately thought of me as someone who might get some use out of it."

So, I have inherited a varied collection of knitting needles and crochet hooks, cable needles, sewing needles, and, best of all, now-out-of-print pattern books, mostly for blankets, because that was what this lady loved to make most. Plus, I also have a bunch of gauge swatches she made, pinned to little bits of card covered in perfect schoolteacher handwriting setting out the patterns they were made to test.

And also...

My coworker brought another bag, full of yarn and...knitted blanket squares. Her mother's last started project, before she got too sick to continue. And she asked if there was anything I could do with it.

It turned out, there are twelve completed squares, and I quickly located the pattern book they are from amid those given to me. It's a book of 60 patterns, meant to be put together however the maker wishes into blankets of 20 squares. I figured out which of the numbered patterns were already made, and selected eight more that I thought might go well with them.

So now! I am working on completing! My coworker's mother's last knitting project!

And I really am feeling very good about doing it.

just found out my cousin (who lives in England) is in the art department of a bunch of shows??? And she worked oN DOCTOR WHO? AND HAD LUNCH WITH DAVID TENNANT???? and she just told me so casually because she's interested in the art, not the show? I mean, excuse me? She worked on SHERLOCK???? FOR A WHOLE SEASON?? She worked on Peaky Blinders and Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones??? And probably other things because she has a shitty memory and according to her everything is a blur?? AND AT ONE POINT SHE WAS LIKE: "oh and have you ever heard of Neil Gaiman?" And I was trying not to scream, because yes, of course I've heard of Neil, he's only my favorite author, I've only read like all of his books multiple times, and if you say you worked on Good Omens or the Sandman I'm going to lose it completely. So I said "yeah I've read a couple of his books," -you know, like a liar- "what about him?" and she goes "well I worked on one of his shows and he's brilliant i just can't remember which one" and i go "w-what do you mean he's brilliant? You're.. you're talking about his writing... his writing is brilliant, right?" And she cheerfully says "oh no I don't read books, I ment he was really nice and brilliant when I talked to him" and i go "WHAT DID YOU TALK ABOUT WHAT DID YOU TALK ABOUT" and she thinks for a moment and goes "oh! BRICKS" WHAT IN THE WORLD YES NO THAT MAKES SENSE YOU GET TO WORK AND TALK WITH NEIL FUCKING GAIMAN AND YOU TALK ABOUT BRICKS? NO THAT'S TOTALLY NORMAL I'M NOT MAD ".... it was what I was designing at the time, I needed to know what vibe the bricks should have. Anyway want to see the spinning fireplace I made for doctor who" WHAT THE FUCK.

The song ended and began again after just a moment of peace and quiet. Cass was beyond irritated by this point, it had been over an hour and Noah was still blasting the Beach Boys. One simply cannot fully appreciate The Communist Manifesto with the world’s happiest love song playing, unmuffled, from behind a closed the door down the hall.

Cass looked over at Jarome’s sleeping body draped across the obnoxious, tasteless red leather sofa that he despised so much. Jarome snored heavily, peacefully, undisturbed by Noah’s immaculate impression of angsty teenager with access to proper sound system equipment. Cass made an executive decision, seeing as Jarome was resting soundly, to clock in as honorary father figure to the younger of the group.

Cass shut his book and lay it down on the coffee table before he rose up and skulked over to Noah’s bedroom, with each step down the hall his ear drums shook even more violently until finally he reached Noah’s bedroom. “Noah!” he stated loudly, a powerful fist banging relentlessly on the door, “Shut that song off! You’ve heard it enough!”

The song ended on an awkward note as Noah paused it, a moment of silence before Noah argued, “But it’s my jam right now!” Cass was unfazed by Noah’s well thought-out and reasonable rebuttal, he responded, “It’s been over an hour! I don’t want to hear it again.” Cass frowned even more than he already was, not because he was annoyed with Noah but because of the sound of his voice. Cass recognized vaguely that way of speech, it was inherited from his father.

Noah was about to speak when Cass added, “Besides, that’s everyone’s jam.” Noah’s grin festered like a terrible case of shingles in the air as Noah teased, “You like Krabby Paties, don’t you, Squidward?” Cass shook his head, refusing to smile at the quote Noah seemed to use as much as he possibly could regardless of how much its meaning actually applied to the situation. “That doesn’t make sense, Noah.” Cass turned on a heel and left, retreating back into the living room to continue his reading.

Noah turned down the volume to a more respectable level, although it was still pretty loud and could be heard from all corners of the house. And by the way, Noah stopped, tuning out the song completely as Cass left a message in a bottle in his brain, I know you snuck out to see Echo. No other thoughts came to Noah, from himself or from Cassius, but they both knew that Noah’s mind would be reeling for the rest of the night.

My Aunt Lynn once gave herself and her family intestinal parasites by dumpster diving for meat a supermarket threw out.

Nothing against freegans actually, I'm all for reducing food waste, but for the love of fuck don't do it with expired beef and pork that've been in a dumpster in 85F heat for hours

I've considered drawing this for a while but I never got around to it.. no better time than now I suppose! :0

This Pokémon is based on my pet rabbit that passed some weeks/months ago. He was an old geezer, lived for about 8-10 years! And he outlived all the other family pets. I couldn't think of a Pokémon-y name for him.. but hey, that's alright! Maybe he's a one of a kind legendary and his name is just Miracle XDD

Also his shiny is brown because that's what his bothers, sisters and parents were! (I think-) He was the only bunny of his litter to be all white :)
