BUTCHER BABIES' Cover Of SAWEETIE's 'Best Friend' To Be Released Next Week
Tumblr media
BUTCHER BABIES' cover version of rapper Saweetie's chart-topping single "Best Friend" will be released on October 28. A teaser for the song's accompanying music video is available below.
BUTCHER BABIES have been performing their cover of "Best Friend" at their recent live shows.
Speaking to Spain's EMP about their decision to cover "Best Friend", BUTCHER BABIES co-vocalist Heidi Shepherd said: "It's basically a song about [me and fellow BUTCHER BABIES singer Carla Harvey]. 'Cause we've been best friends for so long. We were a band together prior to BUTCHER BABIES. It's a cover, and we figured we can't think of two better people to cover this song besides us. So it's fun."
At this year's Brutal Assault festival in Jaromer, Czech Republic, Shepherd and Harvey spoke to Metalshop about the band's upcoming fourth studio album which was recently completed with producer Josh Schroeder (LORNA SHORE, KING 810) for a 2023 release. Heidi said: "We released a barrage of singles throughout 2020 and 2021, and we're gonna follow that up with a full-length album in 2023. But we're also going to finish out the rest of this year with a bunch of singles from that album. So we're very excited. We played one new song today from that album, called 'Best Friend'. And it's been going over really well. So we're very excited. I know it's been a while, but it'll be worth the wait."
Asked why it's better to release singles than a full-length album in 2022, Carla said: "I think we live in a time where people want things right now; they want new stuff all the time. And I also think that when you release a single, people have a chance to digest that song, fall in love with that song before they skip to the next one and the next one and the next one. We really like developing a song on its own, making a video for that song, telling the story of that song, because every song is special to us."
Added Heidi: "We put our heart and soul into every single song that goes on the album. We don't just half-ass any of the songs, and so we want to make sure that it gets the life and the attention it deserves. And so I think we're just gonna continue this way and just leak it a little bit at a time and keep it going."
In a separate interview with Bloodstock TV, Carla stated about the recording process for the new BUTCHER BABIES LP: "It was a really cool experience. We got to sit together for about six weeks in the middle of nowhere — a very, very small town in Michigan — and just create together. And we had an Airbnb with animal skulls all over the place. And we just sat there in the snow and created probably our best album to date. So it was a great bonding experience."
Heidi confirmed that "Best Friend" will be included on BUTCHER BABIES' new effort.
"We've been playing one of the songs on these [European] festivals," she said. "One of the songs that we've been playing on these festivals, it's called 'Best Friend' and it's a cover from the hip-hop artist Saweetie featuring Doja Cat. And for us, being best friends, we thought it would be the best way to do a cover — a hip-hop/metal cover — since we've been best friends for, man, nearly two decades."
When Oran O'Beirne of Bloodstock TV suggested that some BUTCHER BABIES fans might object to such a diverse combination of musical styles, Carla said: "We haven't changed at all, because some of our earliest songs were similar. We've always run the gamut throughout our music; we've never stayed with one style. Most people love about BUTCHER BABIES that we have a death metal song and a thrash metal song and then a poppy radio song, and whatever mood they're in, we've got a song for them."
Added Heidi: "What I love about being in a band like this and being around musicians that we all see eye to eye is that we can do different things; we're not pigeonholed to one certain sound. Sometimes we wanna get up and we wanna scream and we wanna be angry bitches, and then sometimes we wanna sing and we want people to hear what we feel from our hearts. And I think that that's important as an artist, to be able to do both."
Carla continued: "And judging by the audience reaction when we go from one very, very heavy song to one lighter song, they love it. They have literally the same energy for both kinds of music. They want it too. People want the freedom to be able to like different types of music."
BUTCHER BABIES' latest album, 2017's "Lilith", was produced by Steve Evetts (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SEPULTURA, SUICIDE SILENCE) and marked the band's recording debut with drummer Chase Brickenden, who replaced Chris Warner in 2016.
In July 2019, longtime BUTCHER BABIES bassist Jason Klein announced his departure from the band. He has since been replaced by Ricky Bonazza.
Last year, BUTCHER BABIES embarked on a headlining tour, "Butcher Babies Vs. Goliath", which saw the band performing its debut album, "Goliath" — released in 2013 via Century Media Records — in its entirety along with recent hit singles and new material.
Hailing from the City of Angels, BUTCHER BABIES have released two Eps and three albums to date, with "Lilith", debuting at #1 on iTunes Metal chart and #7 on iTunes Rock chart. The band kicked off 2021 by independently releasing a handful of newly energized singles produced and co-written by Matt Good (FROM FIRST TO LAST),including "Bottom Of A Bottle", "Sleeping With The Enemy", "Yorktown", "Last Dance" and "It's Killin' Time, Baby!" The latter was inspired by the DC Comics character Lobo, a heavy metal bounty hunter.

🌷In 24 hours I will be sharing the music for this piece on my music mailing list. This is the first song I am recording for my next album which will be in honor of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá. 🌷⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The song is not complete as I plan to sing it as a duet with a male voice. In the meantime, my producer, Jarome Matthew, kindly worked on this draft so that we could share an initial recording with friends on my music mailing list. We will further develop and arrange the final version of the song to be on the album when it is released next year. 🌷⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ At this time I am only sharing the piece with friends on my music mailing list as it is a draft version. 🌷⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you would like to join my music mailing list, go to elikamahony.com or LINK is in BIO. . . . . #bahai #bahaifaith #bahailife #bahaiquote #abdulbaha #bahaiquotes #bahais #wordsofwisdom #worldcitizen #quoteoftheday #inspiration #inspiringwords #meaningfulwords #instaquote #meaningfulquote #spiritualquote #inspiringquote #bahaiwritings #musiciansofinstagram #worshipmusicians #elikamahony #elikamahonymusic #singersongwriter #pianistsofinstagram #ladderforthesoul #musiclover #pianist #pianowoman #musicforquarantine #homeofpeace https://www.instagram.com/p/B-ran_ylsv7/?igshid=16x8fnmx0qf8q

Saturday storylines: The Sedins say goodbye
Welcome to what was supposed to be the final night of the NHL regular season. Tomorrow’s makeup game between the Panthers and Bruins threw a wrench in things, but never mind that — the league is hitting us with everything they have tonight, with the maximum 15 games on the schedule and everyone other than the Penguins in action.
HNIC Game of the Night: Canucks at Oilers
As far as the standings go, this one barely matters. The only meaningful stakes are a few percentage points worth of lottery odds, and maybe Connor McDavid‘s final push for Hart Trophy votes.
But some things are more important than wins or losses or individual honours. And to fans across the country looking at the big picture, tonight represents something much more: Their last chance to see the Sedin twins in action.
It’s been a whirlwind week since the Sedins dropped the Monday bombshell that they wouldn’t be returning for an 18th season. The announcement led to an emotional Tuesday night against the Golden Knights, one that saw each twin take a rare turn in the shootout in front of the Vancouver crowd. That was followed by Thursday’s final home game, one that ended just about perfectly.
youtube
Through it all, tributes have poured in from around the hockey world, with fans, media, teammates, opponents and community leaders lining up to sing the twins’ praises. In a league where it’s relatively rare to see players make it through long careers without being turned into villains by at least some segment of the fan base, the Sedins are going out with near-universal respect and admiration.
The only negative has been the schedule, which inconveniently serves up a road game for the Canucks’ season finale. But if the Sedins’ final bow couldn’t be in Vancouver, Edmonton isn’t a bad second choice. There’s even a little symmetry in play – longtime Oiler Ryan Smyth had his final game against the Canucks four years ago, one that even saw his opponents return to the ice to show their respect.
We can expect something similar from the Oilers and their fans tonight, much like the moment that Jarome Iginla and the Flames once provided for another beloved Canuck. And if history is any guide, the Sedins will take it all in stride, without much in the way of fanfare or drama.
Vancouver fans, maybe not so much. It would be hard to blame them, and you can bet that more than a few fans of other teams will be cheering along with them.

‘American Idol’ Recap: It’s All About Personality as the Auditions Come to an End
American Idol has only been back for two and a half weeks, but we’re already about to enter the next phase of the reboot with new judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.
I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be season 16 or season 1, but what I do know is that while the auditions are fun — both the good and the bad — Hollywood Week is when it really begins.
The big stage, the pressure, the judgments, the horrors of the group round … this is where the studs are separated from the duds, and stars begin their journey. And it’s right around the corner.
But first, we have to get through these last two hours of golden ticket giveaways. And so back to Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York City and Savannah we go.
Seventeen-year-old Gabby Barrett and her family drove to Tennessee all the way from Pittsburgh, and she’s a daddy’s girl. He is a maintenance man for Goodwill, and he spends his nights cleaning apartments to provide the best life possible for his family. She’s cute and bubbly but also grounded, and Carrie Underwood is her idol.
The judges find her rendition of Carrie’s "Good Girl" too gimmicky because when you try to sound country, you don’t sound country. They also reject her back-up songs — Carrie Underwood’s "Church Bells" and Gretchen Wilson’s "Redneck Woman." But her personality finally comes through on an actual church song — about Jesus.
Caitlin Lucia is 22 and gigs at the same place Katy did as a teenager, and she’s rocking a tight yellow onesie while singing her hero’s song in front of her hero. It’s a folksy version of "I Kissed a Girl," and the judges like it. They also believe that it merely scratches the surface of what Caitlin can do.
Amelia Presley is The King’s sixth cousin once removed, and her "Heartbreak Hotel" kicks off a mediocre Elvis montage that includes frog-throated Billy Crunk and wannabe impersonator Bailey Eubanks. It ends with country boy heartthrob Drake Milligan, who sounds like Elvis but impresses the judges because they think he doesn’t. Luke calls him "cowboy cool," and then it’s a mash-up of Katy’s non-stop set snacking and bunched-up Spanx.
Katy doesn’t think "Stand By Me" is a proper choice to show off the voice of 24-year-old Mylon Shamble, until Mylon sings it. Then Katy calls it the best "Stand By Me" she’s ever heard.
Lee Vasi looks like Alicia Keys, and she duets on her all-time favorite song — The Commodores’ "Zoom" — with Lionel before launching into Toni Braxton’s "Love Shoulda Brought You Home." She’s got the pipes, but the song goes horribly awry amid a slew of pitchless screeching. Still, the judges see potential in her and send her to Hollywood. Luke predicts that she’ll be in the Top 10 if she listens and stays in her wheelhouse.
Philly boy Michael J. Woodard fights his nerves and is all over the place with an over-run version of Ed Sheeran’s "Make It Rain," but the judges love his infectious personality and what they see as raw potential. It probably should’ve been a no based on the lack of control, but I’ll admit he’s likable.
A montage of fashion, hair, tats and related flair ends with 18-year-old dance choreographer Brielle Rathbun, who has fully braided hair and adopted siblings from other countries. Her mom ditched the family a few years ago, and now Dad is the champion. She raspily sings Sara Bareilles’ "Gravity" out of the side of her mouth. And while I don’t love it, her unique personality and spunk mean she’s through.
Carly Moffa describes herself as "a mess," and she’s always been a little different with a penchant for showmanship. Showwomanship? Her mother — who was diagnosed with progressive MS and had five surgeries in the last year alone — is her best friend, and she wrote her original song about "letting the lion out" to cheer Mom up when she was having a rough night. She’s got a bit of Florence Welch in her, which I swear I wrote before Katy says it, and her unique sound makes her one to watch.
Samuel (pronounced Sam-well?) Swanson is a 28-year-old Alabama farm boy who longed to see more than trees and cows, so he picked up and moved to Harlem with $60 to his name. He does a sweet and soulful take on Al Green’s "Let’s Stay Together," and Lionel compares him to Luther Vandross. It’s clear that the theme of the show is unique and endearing personalities.
Eighteen-year-old Jurnee was a recluse until she realized her truth and came out, and she has since met her soulmate and got married. It’s been rainbows — pun intended (her words) — ever since, and she tackles Andra Day’s "Rise Up." There’s no emotional connection until the chorus and way too many extreme runs crammed into a song that doesn’t need it, but the judges appreciate Jurnee’s journey and keep it going to Hollywood.
That’s Adam Sanders, who made the Top 50 when he was 19 five years ago. Rejection was difficult to deal with, but he admits he wasn’t ready back then. But the aftermath was much worse, and the social media trolls targeted his weight, told him he was terrible and advised him to end his life.
He went to a dark place and contemplated suicide, believing he might not be worth fixing. But from that, he rebuilt himself and rose from the ashes a new person confident in his identity. And so the final featured audition of season 16 comes courtesy of Ada Vox, who is a seafood waiter by day and a "part-time woman" by night.
He belts out "House of the Rising Sun" in full drag, showing off a gigantic range backed by pure power pipes. Despite the persona, he assures the judges that he’s in it to win it, and he’s awarded the final golden ticket.
Now, look, I’m not dissing the talent. But truth be told, I was actually at a drag show last night (my wife and I have many theatre friends), and Ada Vox is pretty standard for the New York scene. The vocal prowess can’t be denied, but he’s going to have a difficult time separating himself from the persona to be taken seriously. Ms. Vox will definitely have a loyal following, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out from a recording artist perspective.
Being homeless isn’t enough to deter Ayana Lawson, who goes by Rose because her first name means "lovely flower" in Ethiopian. She used to play basketball but couldn’t afford new sneakers, and now music is her life, her passion, her joy.
Her guitar playing is on point during a toned-down, no-frills version of Bonnie Raitt’s "I Can’t Make You Love Me." She doesn’t have the strongest voice in the world, but the emotional connection is raw and real. You can feel the Tracy Chapman "Fast Car"-like desperation.
The judges want to see her come back because she’s not ready yet, so it’s three nos. But, c’mon, they’ve put through far worse people. And with her backstory, she may simply need an opportunity to build the confidence and swagger they want to see now.
(ABC didn’t post a video of Ayana on the American Idol YouTube page, so I’m embedding it from another source.)
Tory N. Teasley — or TNT for short (that’s gotta be his drag queen alias) — delivers a spicy rendition of Cee Lo Green’s "F*** You" that makes Luke fall out of his chair laughing while Lionel grimaces at the coarse language.
Lucy Clearwater dedicates her folksy take on Sir Mix A Lot’s "Baby Got Back" to Luke’s backside.
Jarom Banks, sometimes known as JoJo Jerom, wears pajamas and butchers REM’s "Losing My Religion" on the piano. It’s a yes from Katy but only because he’s so weird.
Another montage of rejection ends with a guy in a red jacket dancing like Michael Jackson (pictured at the top of the recap) who sings Wham! And as Deadpool pointed out, there’s an exclamation point. So it’s not Wham. It’s Wham! Then heavy metal junkie Damiano Scarfi butchers Boston’s "More Than a Feeling," and here he goes again on his own, going down the only road he’s ever known: rejection.
And just like that, Hollywood here we come. No one emerged as a real contender from this episode, but I’m most interested to see what Carly Moffa can do to harness that Florence and the Machine vibe.
The hell that is Hollywood Week kicks off in the next episode. It’s time to put up or shut up. Literally.
Who were your favorites and who do you think has the most potential? Is there a superstar in this mix? What are your thoughts on Adam Sanders’ transformation, and can Ada Vox be taken seriously in a competition like American Idol? Should the judges have put through Michael J. Woodard and Lee Vasi, or do they need more seasoning? And should poor homeless Ayana Lawson be heading west or did the judges make the right call? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Chorale! <3 January 2017
Nagkaroon ng choral competition sa school for foundation, every department, kakantahin yung university hymn and isang choice song ng department. Nagmeeting ang jp officers and advisers, with the presidents and secretaries of each year, so nandon ako, seksitary ako ng 3rd year eh HAHAHA okay. Napag-usapan din yun, about sa choral, so hindi pa complete yung list kasi kulang pa ng members, nagtanong sila kung sino kumakanta sa 3rd year, edi pinpoint na beshies hahahahaha ang daming nasama samin hahaha.
First day of practice, ang saya, parang normal voice lesson lang, sobrang laughtrip nung ididivide na nila ung mga tenor and bass, ang lt na naman ni Leo, okay na sana eh, tenor na siya, pinagsolo siya ng isang warm up na tono, kingina! pumiyok siya, grabe sorabng laughtrip, edi ayon, napunta siya sa bass, tapos soprano ako, dibuh yabang ko eh charot. So yung picked song namin was, I Will Sing Forever, yung church song, ang cool lang kasi parang choir na kami ng department namin charot HAHAHAHA. practice everyday, bcos 2 or 1 week before the competition, sobrang rush bes. Gustong gusto namin manalo or place man lang, bcos, ofcourse dala namin yung deparment namin, support ng faculty and co-stud.pharm. and syempre sa mga mentors namin, but unfortunately, talo kami, pangfifth kami, pero atleast pangfifth ;) 2 or 1 week lang practice namin hahahaha. Sobrang lungkot that day, as in! umiyak talaga ako non, sobrang kabreakdown, feel ko na-bh ako non eh :D HAHAHA pero seryoso, sobrang nakakadown, all the expectations turned to disappointments, not the people around us but to us, who participated the competition, grabe. Kami lang ata ni Vis yung sobrang nalungkot lalo na nung kinausap na kami ni ma’am Lyn hubeks kahit pag-uwi ko, naiiyak talaga ako. hahahaha syempre diba, you saw all those supports from your professors and dean, although si sir Raymond na nagresign na eh, support padin samin, na sobrang magbigay sila ng mga advice sa amin, kalungkot langs. Happy din bcos they’re still there, saying “okay lang yan, atleast you give all your best”, “okay lang yan, atleast ngayon alam niyo na yung dapat pang iimprove for next choral competition by sir Gab huhu” and of course, sa mga happy memories, friendship na nabuo ;) naks habahahahahahahaha

Song: Wouldn't It Be Nice? Artist: The Beach Boys Character: Jarome
The song ended and began again after just a moment of peace and quiet. Cass was beyond irritated by this point, it had been over an hour and Noah was still blasting the Beach Boys. One simply cannot fully appreciate The Communist Manifesto with the world’s happiest love song playing, unmuffled, from behind a closed the door down the hall.
Cass looked over at Jarome’s sleeping body draped across the obnoxious, tasteless red leather sofa that he despised so much. Jarome snored heavily, peacefully, undisturbed by Noah’s immaculate impression of angsty teenager with access to proper sound system equipment. Cass made an executive decision, seeing as Jarome was resting soundly, to clock in as honorary father figure to the younger of the group.
Cass shut his book and lay it down on the coffee table before he rose up and skulked over to Noah’s bedroom, with each step down the hall his ear drums shook even more violently until finally he reached Noah’s bedroom. “Noah!” he stated loudly, a powerful fist banging relentlessly on the door, “Shut that song off! You’ve heard it enough!”
The song ended on an awkward note as Noah paused it, a moment of silence before Noah argued, “But it’s my jam right now!” Cass was unfazed by Noah’s well thought-out and reasonable rebuttal, he responded, “It’s been over an hour! I don’t want to hear it again.” Cass frowned even more than he already was, not because he was annoyed with Noah but because of the sound of his voice. Cass recognized vaguely that way of speech, it was inherited from his father.
Noah was about to speak when Cass added, “Besides, that’s everyone’s jam.” Noah’s grin festered like a terrible case of shingles in the air as Noah teased, “You like Krabby Paties, don’t you, Squidward?” Cass shook his head, refusing to smile at the quote Noah seemed to use as much as he possibly could regardless of how much its meaning actually applied to the situation. “That doesn’t make sense, Noah.” Cass turned on a heel and left, retreating back into the living room to continue his reading.
Noah turned down the volume to a more respectable level, although it was still pretty loud and could be heard from all corners of the house. And by the way, Noah stopped, tuning out the song completely as Cass left a message in a bottle in his brain, I know you snuck out to see Echo. No other thoughts came to Noah, from himself or from Cassius, but they both knew that Noah’s mind would be reeling for the rest of the night.

Cass & Noah | Left Brain, Right Brain | Past Paragraph
Jarome had been gone for four days now and surprisingly, the worst that had happened was a broken window (Noah was playing some made-up kind of baseball in the house) and an unsteady mountain of dishes had formulated in the sink. All in all, Cass was proud of the way he’d taken care of the house and had even vacuumed in Jarome’s absence, a chore Jarome and his two housemates usually had to negotiate and grapple over because nobody wanted to do it. And in that freshly vacuumed living room which Cass had just exited, Noah flopped onto the couch and turned on the television, going to Netflix.
“Caaaaaass!” he sing-songed excitedly. Cass rolled his eyes, making a mental note that the younger boy sounded like a hyper-active child.
“Whaaat?” he called back, playing along. He had just opened his novel.
“Come here! Come here! Come here!” The chant came like spitfire. “Come watch this thing with me it’s very important!”
Cass set the book down and rubbed his temples, he consoled himself by muttering, “If he doesn’t get attention now he’ll only get worse.”
Teleporting to the living room, Cass found Noah sitting up right on the sofa (which was a first) and bouncing up and down in his spot, overjoyed. He beat down on cushion next to him as if performing a drum roll, “Sit! Sit! Sit! It’s starting.” Teleporting once more, Cass appeared on the sofa, legs crossed sophisticated and arms draped across the back rest in relaxed indifference.
“Noah, what is this?”
Noah grinned fully, his lips moving quickly as he sang with the music, “He really meant to drop the water bottle. You thought it was an accident…” when the bit ended Noah complied and informed Cass, “It’s Bo Burnham’s new stand up and I want you to watch it at least until this one part.”
Cass sighed and looked around the room as if already bored. “This is the guy that wrote the song about institutionalized religion being a joke?”
“Yes. Yes. Yes.” Cass shook his head disapprovingly. Even though he had secretly enjoyed the song very much. Cass tried not to show too much amusement in watching the comedy central special… although it didn’t matter because Noah was too engulfed in his own positive emotions to notice whether or not Cass was enjoying himself.
“This is it! This is the song! Ssh!” Cass snapped towards Noah. “I haven’t said a word this whole-"
"SSHHH!” A jittery finger pressed against the lips of Cass’ half-open mouth, causing Cass to jerk away in shock. He sighed dramatically and turned his silent and undivided attention back to the television.
I am the left brain, I am the left brain I work very hard to my inevitable death brain
“That’s you!” Noah interjected. Cass side-eyed him but said nothing.
I like Oreos and pussy yes! in that order And I cried for at least an hour after watching Toy Story 3
“That’s me!” Noah exclaimed, giddy in an almost scary kind of way. Cass looked at him in amazement, shaking his head with disbelief as Noah lip-synced on point, making ridiculous faces as he did so. Cass wasn’t sure which performance took more preparation and energy, he didn’t know which one deserved his attention more.

“That’s us!” Noah shouted, laughing and bouncing up and down.
“Okay, okay. You are way too excited about this.” Cass stated, trying and failing to calm down the atmosphere. “I know!” He continued to bounce. Cass hid a smile and figured he might as well watch until the end. Bo Burnham was one of Noah’s favorite comedians.
