as much as I love batgirl 2024, I have to admit the lack of Barbara Gordon mentions in the whole series so far, especially with the first arc having such a big theme of motherhood/daughterhood and the things that comes with it, makes me soo sad. Barbara was the first person Cass actually considered as a mother! Barbara, although she wasn’t the best at it at first, truly did try to understand and love Cass unconditionally even when she was separated from the Bat mantle! And that panel where Cass overhears Barbara tell Dick that she doesn’t know how to really care for Cass could’ve been the perfect parallel to the whole “is a Mother just being connected by blood? No, Something more is owed/Being a daughter is more than being connected by blood” lines that Cass says in the last (current) issue because Barbara, though she did not physically bring Cass into this world, has sacrificed SO much for her, and in return Cass gave so much back.

I know some fanon projects hard on Shamir being a #detached and #badass and #nostringsattached kind of person when CF and especially SB reveals she's anything but -

Bar her partnership with Catherine, Shamir is the person who says this :

Is she worried about Rhea being pressured to retake Garreg Mach when the route isn't secured yet/the Monastery is stil guarded? (iirc it's in Nopes' chapter 11).

Then, in the Ailell chapter :

Honestly, I would've rather been with Rhea than stuck here.

Barney wonders why she's complaining, apparently it's not because of the heat because southern Dagda is hotter than a volcano (???), not because she has a debt to Rhea, but because she prefers to lead ambushes and all.

But note how Barney says :

Is it 'cause you want to protect the archbishop? You owe her some kind of debt, don't you?

And Shamir only replies :

I've long repaid my debt. I'm not like Catherine.

Sure we can infer the "I'm not like Catherine" means she doesn't want to protect Rhea like Cat does, but she explicitely mentions having repaid her debt - something she always pulls out insistently when the topic of Rhea comes out in GW :

Are you saddened that you have to face Rhea, or that you believe you're betraying her expectations ?

In JP it's : あなたには恩があった……。返し終わったつもりだが、足りなければ許してくれ, Googl'd it gives "I owe you a debt of gratitude... I think I've paid it all back, but please forgive me if it's not enough."

It's more explicit : she apologises for not repaying her debt, or by repaying it with, y'know, Golden Shower (or Supreme Bullshit) shenanigans!

And in the final fight :

Shamir emphasises how sorry she still is at having to fight because of the plot, but, well, given how she opens their battle lines with this, why Shamir felt the need to say that, uh, she is really and still sorry to have to fight against her, but that's her path etc etc?

Adding to this how Shamir, in SS, is the only non nabatean character on Rhea's floor when she has to recover from having eaten missiles and she worries, in her own way, about her condition.

Like, Seteth is already on that floor, so she's obviously not there for security purposes so...?

tl;Dr : it reads as if Shamir really dgaf about her former affiliation, the KoS, Catherine and Rhea herself.

She just, happens to be there when Rhea's in her direst state, she worries - but only for strategic purposes, don't be mistaken! - about her being pressured to lead a charge against a still well defended monastery - and anyways, she's not angsting at pointing her bow at her, because she already repaid her debt! So stop bringing this up okay, she repaid that debt! If she feels like trash, it's totally unrelated, besides, do you know she really really really repaid her debt, so no old grudges, okay??

OMG. i have a few prompts that have come in that have since marinated in my brain and will be focused on a portion of areas of the transition from the camps to the forced march and let's just say i am going to be in the flow of PURE ANGST AND WHUMP!!!!

STOPPPPP OMG (plz insert me sobbing right here right now) knowing what we know about bucky and kennedy's feelings towards one another right now and what they've told one another - and what we can absolutely see is deep love and care for each other as well - i ca only imagine what goes through both their minds the second the signal is given that they'll be going on a march. here's a little something i scribbled down at the thought (it's a little messy, a little wordy too but it was my first thoughts and just....i am in SHAMBLES!!!):

He was grabbing her arm. Even despite the thick leather of the A2 jacket she wore, swaddled around her very being, his grip was as tight, if not the strongest, she’d ever felt it be. And they’d all had lackluster food and water since arriving here.

Kennedy looked up at him, his eyes ablaze with something dark and deep down she could see the fear. Something he had tried to hide and tuck away inside of him. Yet, when she looked up into him, she could see it - it was only growing.

"Stick close to me." Bucky said quietly between themselves as the rush of the airmen around them, consumed them - loud boots slapping against the wooden floor, shouts and yells echoing down the long hallway, bodies slamming into one another as the cold from the outside slowly managed to chill her bones. Kennedy couldn't think past much else except hanging onto Bucky and trying to stay warm. Two of the most important aspects she had found herself drawn to.

At some point in the chaos, Bucky had wrapped his arm around her shoulders and practically attached her to his side - and she was sure it was the only thing grounding in this moment in time. There was no destination it seemed, and there wasn't a clue as to what entirely was going on and how long they'd be marching. All she knew is that the Allies were closing in, and the Germans were trying to stay just out of their reach.

And that meant moving the entire camp and every person in it, burning the place behind them to the ground.

As she walked beside Bucky, who remained firm, steely and as solid as a damn rock beside her, the only thought in her mind as waves of fear and nostalgia and anguished grief seemed to hit her was that she wanted to go home. And what hurt more was that her body had been so many places in a short span of time that she wasn't even sure where home was to her anymore.

"You okay, Kenny?" she heard Bucky calling to her as the shouting continued, dogs barking and snapping in the background, fire smoldering to the dark sky above them.

"Yeah," she managed out, looking up to catch his gaze which knew better it seemed than to trust her words, "fine." Bucky paused for a moment there as people rushed around him and reached up a gloved hand to pull the beanie on her head down a bit more, tucking in a few bits of her scarf alongside that. It was short and to the point, but he pressed a quick kiss to her cheek and then looked at her.

"I'm not letting go of you, alright?" he said, gloved hand snaking down to her own as he pulled it to his chest, "Hold on to me."
