There is something really heavy in this scene.

Sam and Jacob have spent three years carrying these characters inside themselves. Hundred of late nights and dawns together (on and off set). Conversations, debates, meals shared, laughter and probably tears too.It's clearly been a journey for them, not just their characters.

But there's something else happening here too.

Eric saw it. He watched these actors go places others won't (or can't). Something challenging and authentic.

Even Eric (a veteran actor of 50+ years) said he's never been on a show like this, never pushed himself so far outside his comfort zone. But for this show, he's happy to do it because he knows he can trust them.

Eric nailed it when he spoke about the importance of trust and engaging with genuine emotions for both Jacob and Sam:

This is why this feels so real.

Because it's true when Sam says:

And Jacob was only half joking when he said:

It's their complete trust in each other. It's their willingness to engage truthfully with painful emotions.

Shared grief and shared sorrow hurts, and Jacob and Sam aren't holding anything back. They feel safe going to places that are deeply painful and hard. Ugly and nasty. Full of regret and remorse. And genuine love.

This is why it feels so truthful in that moment.

This is why they only needed two takes.

Apparently some people are afraid that was all the devils minion we’re gonna get? To me this definitely feels like the perfect setup to them THINKING they figured it all out, but there’s actually more to the story. Remember the clip of Raglan James saying that it’s not Armand but Louis that Daniel should be afraid of? That means we still do not have the whole story. In the book the reason that Armand starts chasing Daniel for years is because he found out that Louis let Daniel live after interviewing him, so he wants to figure out what makes Daniel so fascinating, and will only kill him if he starts to find Daniel boring. It is essentially the same premise we have just been presented to: Louis convinces Armand to let Daniel live, now Armand needs to figure out why Daniel is interesting (after being told that he himself is boring by Louis). I can only imagine that the next time we revisit the 1970s it will be the beginning of the chase.

one night, freshly turned louis feeds from lestat and he drinks so much that lestat carefully cradles his head in both of his big palms and gently pulls him away from his neck "mon cher, i have no more to give", he doesn't want to stop him but he's feeling faint and hungry again "I will go feed and come back home to you, saint louis"

in response louis looks up at him with big round eyes that hold so much hurt in them, lestat said he would take care of him, so why is he stopping him from feeding from him? he promised that he would give him the world so why can't he give him this? and now he wants to leave louis alone to go hunt..?

lestat obviously isn't privy to louis' thoughts anymore but he can see the glassiness that covers his eyes, he can see the sad frown on his face, he notices the way louis is looking at him but not really seeing him and decides that he won't can't leave him alone in this state

so he gathers louis further into his arms, pulls him onto his lap and holds him throughout the rest of the night, occasionally rubbing a hand down his back as if he's comforting a frightened puppy, and peppers kisses on his forehead, nose and cheeks because louis' makes a cute lil sound every single time that he does

When louis eventually comes back to himself he's a bit embarrassed by his actions and tries to pull away but lestat doesn't let him ofc, he holds him tighter and tells louis how sweet he was for him "louis you never told me just how much you liked my blood" he says, his smile evident in his voice

by the time sunrise comes, they have made their way to the coffin and louis is snuggled up to lestat with his face once again in his neck (this is louis comfort place), lestat has his arms wrapped tightly around him and just like that, completely surrounded by each other they fall into a deep sleep.

If I had a nickel for every time a movie is totally not Harry Styles fanfiction, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
