Why do I like the Festival of Migrations? Because, for a weekend, I feel good, I feel like I belong in a global community of beings and hearts. It is a mosaic of expressions, colors, smiles, energies, sounds, images. For a photographer, it is absolute happiness. I walk around, up and download, I look, I meet, I chat, I listen, I give, I receive. I have no other obligation than to exist and to breathe. Here and there, people pose for me, they freeze and wait for the click of the camera. But often, I shoot on the fly, in spontaneous mode, these are the best portraits. Every other time, I exchange a few words with the person in the picture. It all happens very naturally, without forcing me. How beautiful it is, a plural humanity, when everyone lives and cohabits in peace. Is it an illusion, is it too much to hope that the whole planet looks like this big, colourful and noisy souk that makes us go around the world in 48 hours? I don't care about political dogmas that divide and erect borders. I don't care about leaders who sow hatred and resentment. I don't care about those who put labels on people's foreheads. I don't care about those who stir up fire and blood. A small world is... When I came to America for the first time 3 years ago, a good friend of mine from Zimbabwe @briankkay gave me his friend's contacts. A friend of his from Kenya that lived in Seattle, that would show me around Seattle and help me acclimatize. He didn't know me, I didn't know him but Brian told both of us we were destined to be friends. So🤷🏽‍♀️. 3 years later, we are still good friends and across America in Washington DC he now lives. And today he introduces me to David from KwaNongoma, rural KZN, from 'home home'!! . I'm gobsmacked, I'm here in the National Capital of the United States of America speaking Zulu at dinner🙊.
