We got alot to catchup on world. Miss you all. So I'm about to commit to one post a day at least & more social engagement in the most meaningful ways yall, not to accomplish some IG feat...but because I'm committing more to reaching people where they're at & to add more understanding, justice, peace, perspective, love, listening, breath & space holding. The stories of the people who dreamed big, and never saw those dreams to fruition. People who fell in love and lost. I became an artist and thank god I did because we are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life." - @violadavis I've been an actor professionally since college. I "acted" since I was a child, impersonating family members and recording myself on our first camcorder I set up on top of a speaker, running back and forth from the living room couch while recording. Had my SAG card since 2010, three years after working at Universal Studios Hollywood scaring people with a chainsaw & graduating college with an English degree in Creative Writing and a minor in Theater with a focus on Acting & Directing. My Dad helped me pay for the initiation fees that were over $2,000. I felt the air in the world and breathed differently when I left the SagAftra headquarters...like I took a huge leap on the biggest stepping stone towards my dreams and goals. I'm reminded of this watching the @sagawards tonight. I am BEYOND happy to have met, took notes from, & been inspired by these actors who keep reminding us all of why we first got into acting...the love of LIFE. Telling stories that are forgotten, buried, or silenced. FINALLY! I post a wrap up instagram post to ACTUALLY fill you in on the beauty and fun and insightfulness that HAPPENED! @lacountylibrary #FlorencePublicLibrary hosted by #KimberlyCobian and with @ridingthebus1 and I as two other featured poets all focused on the topic of food as it relates to immigration was fun and beautiful...so many stories in Spanish and English, first time in a long time I shared more personal stories about my family and ancestry including racism within different cultures and more. #Platanos and our love of them. And I happily shared a poem about my Mom that made Willie, the library worker at the bottom left/right cry lovely and I made a poem up for VICTOR who wants to race in Nascar when he grows up and loves the @fateofthefuriousmovie ...he cracked up when I mentioned @vindiesel in the poem and he said the poem made his DAY! Luis shared great advice when asked about poets that inspired him or that they should check out...he said, "Look at the person next to you...that is the person you should be listening to..." !!! Kim recommended @officialsandracisneros as an author to check out which makes sense since her poetry felt like we were sitting out on Mango street with her detailed and reflectively impactful storytelling.
