Banyan Bend

While looking for something else the other day, I came across a link for this world and all of its original lots that were created by the 3 administrators of the old Sims Crossing site. Plus, the original sims created to live here were also up for grabs. Someone over on the Sims Cave uploaded them all. Which was great, since I had lost some of the stuff during my last 2 computer meltdowns and it was impossible to find any of them previously. So, if any of you want to play this world, hop on over to the Sims Cave and type in Sims Crossing - or Banyan Bend.

Anyway, this world was created right after Late Night came out and has no CC. It's their vision of how Twinbrook should have been. And while I like parts of it, there is room for improvement. But CAW hates me, so it is what it is.

I'm currently redoing lots. They placed the movie studio lot from Bridgeport on probably the only 64x64 lot in this town. And since I want to use that for my festival lot, I needed to find a movie lot on something smaller. They placed 2 of those dome thingies - that thing next to the science center in Sunset Valley - on 2 different 60x60 lots in town. One is for butterflies, while the other is... well, I'm not sure what it is. The butterfly one is down by the industrial lots - just down the street from their movie lot. So, I bulldozed it. Yes, I did! My greenie sims are not happy, but I'll let them have that other dome lot to keep their bugs in. I know! I'm way too nice to my sims.

I tried several different lots on this space before I accidently came across a lot over on MTS, created by someone called mccorade. It was created with Riverview in mind. And while it wasn't exactly what I wanted, it was a good start. And it was on a smaller lot. I think maybe 50x50. So, thank you!

Anyway, here it is now. I have made several changes - as I normally do - but the bones are mccorade's.

First thing I did was resurface the parking areas and change out the fencing. This is Banyan Bend! These rednecks can't afford fancy fences, so chain-link it is! I also added the fountains and those 2 large statues. Just because. I also made that main flowerbed smaller - so delivery trucks could access the main building. Then, on the backlot, I redid the houses - mostly used different finishes and added some more landscaping.

Then I made that area where the 'stars' can hang out in their trailers. Oh! And I switched out all the trees.

And finally, in the back, I added a guard shack, more fencing and that driveway to the back doors of the main building. And viola! Banyan Bend has a new place to make movies! Go me!

While I was in the area, I also got rid of the old science center lot. Since I used that hospital from Supernatural on the lot in town where they had their hospital RH, I really didn't need another lot wasted on my science sims. (This world was created before EA came out with their combo lots). So, I decided to make another 'movie' type lot.

This one is loosely based on that KWLW Studio lot from the Sims 1. This is where the hit series, "As the Stomach Churns," and the "Next Great Sim Nation Idol" are filmed. And the local Banyan News channel churns out their daily feed. I used that smaller stage - the 6x7 - one for my Idol stage. If any of you want it, it's over on TFM's Naughty Sims Asylum. You have to be a member, but sign-up is super easy. Once you get over there, type in Shimrod's mods. It's his BuyDebug Genie Lamp and smaller showtime stage mod. Pop it into your overrides folder and viola! A smaller stage is yours! Easy-peasy!

Anyway, I'll post interior pictures later. I was moving in sims today - after redoing the generic cemetery they had. Had to kill off sims and then replace all the fake graves with ones that will generate ghosts. Plus, I write bios for all my families and then - with the help of MasterController - create conflict amongst all of them. It's a dirty job but someone has to do it. Which is why I am the simgoddess and my sims aren't!

Bebe’s first job!

Now that I've graduated, and gotten my degree, I've decided it was time to keep a journal. After all, who knows, someday I may become famous and want to do one of those "tell-all" books. So, jotting down stuff now, could pay off later. Or not. Anyway, when I got back to the dorm, I decided to check my email to see if I'd gotten any nibbles from all those resumes I sent out. I took that class the college offers on "Writing a Resume to Get the Perfect Job," so I'm hoping someone out there offers me something.                                           And...yes....I've gotten an offer! How cool is that! And in a town called Riverview. Can't say I've ever heard of it, but the editor says a good friend from Bridgeport sent her a copy of my resume, and she was impressed. Wow! So, obviously this can't be a rickey-tick, hole-in-the-wall like Sunset Valley. Will have to thank simgoddess samkat tonight for this. Wow!

So it was late when I got into town, and, well.... It isn't Bridgeport. It's not even as big as SV. All the businesses were closed by the time I got here. Even the local diner. Which sucked. But at least the owner of the house I rented online, left me the key under the front doormat, and some food in the fridge. So I guess I won't starve.

But maaaan! This sure doesn't look like the pictures I saw online. "Newly decorated? Luxurious furnishings?" So NOT! But hey! I've got a job! And my own house! So I can't complain. Well, I could. Not that anyone would listen. And besides, being out on my own, is just soooo awesome!

Okay, so today is my first day of work, as a professional blogger. Me! A real writer! Yeah, I know I've written some books, but this is a steady job where they actually pay me just to show up! And, they've given me my own column. Me! Bebe Hart! A Professional Blogger! Oh! And I even have a new car! The guy at the used car lot said it's "barely broken in. The perfect car for a first time car owner." And okay, maybe it does honk its horn when you step on the brake, and maybe it rattles a bit when you go around turns, and sputters a tad when you go up hills, but I Have A Car!!!!! With tires and everything! How cool is that!

Just got home from work. Well, the town bistro, actually. My editor sent me there to write a review on the new chef they hired. Some dude named Don Lothario. So, I have to get these ideas written down while they're fresh. Because this is like my very first article. Ever. And I don't want to screw it up.

Well, I turned in the article and even though the restaurant isn't real happy with me, the local journalism group awarded me their Simitzer Prize for excellence in reporting. And my boss promoted me to Anonymous Source Handler! Of course, she did tell me, that I have to meet with our legal department tomorrow, to discuss a possible lawsuit. But whatever! I got a raise! And another assignment, here at the stadium.                                                                  When the sports editor asked me what I knew about sports, I couldn't say, "Not a damn thing." I mean, I need the work. So I told him, "They don't call me Sports Authority because I'm....." But he didn't let me finish, which was good. Because I had nothing. So, anyway, I'm here to watch the game and report on it. So, I'm thinking I should find me some guys with that facepaint stuff, and sit next to them. ‘Cause I sure as heck don't know what's going on.

Well, after the game, I stopped by the local diner. Figured since I was hungry, I could eat and write another food review. Sort of a "kill two birds with one stone" sort of thing. I had originally planned on trying the bistro again, but they banned me. Had their bouncer throw me out. So, the diner it was. Anyway, on the way out, I ran into a wackadoodle who went totally off on me. I have no idea what his problem was, but he was screaming and acting like a crazy man. Something about, "Do you know what it's like to get fired because of some dumb bimbo?" "Well, nooooo," I told him. "But maybe you should pick a better girlfriend." Geesh! What drama!

Turned in my two reviews earlier, then came back home. The whole office got the day off for Spooky Day. Not that this town actually has a festival lot, like SV had, where sims can actually go and celebrate. So I don't know what the big deal is. But I get the day off with pay, so I can't complain. Gives me time to rake up all these leaves. And pack my bags. Seems like, even though I got that award, the town businesses don't like me too much. I've been banned from the bistro, the town theater, the stadium and the diner. And they're threatening to pull their ads from the paper unless the paper makes some changes. So, my boss thinks it's time I moved on in my career. Tomorrow will be my last day at the Riverview Gazette. Then who knows where I'll land?

Right after I took that picture of her raking the leaves - which she did all on her own, with no prompt from me! - it started to rain. And, of course, she got hit by lightning, then started playing splashy-splash in the rain. Apple doesn't fall far from the familial tree. And here I thought she was normal. Anyway, at the end of the week, Bebe had advanced to level 6 of her career - which makes her an Investigative Reporter.                                                    She really was awarded that prize after submitting her first article. (Had never heard of it before!) She got $500 but no statue, or plaque. Which was sad. But that gave her, her first promotion. She also got another $500 from the bistro. While there to review it, the game popped up that "Your food sucks. Do you want to eat it and die, or return it to the kitchen?" She returned it and got a syrupy note about being the best customer ever - plus the cash. Well, after being served crummy food, I couldn't see her writing a glowing article. So hence the warning, the next day at work, that the paper's legal department was looking at a lawsuit. And she really did get banned from all of those venues. Had never had that happen before when I tried the journalism career, so that was interesting. At first I thought it was another glitch, but then the pop-up said, "Because of your nasty review, you are no longer welcome here." Pretty cool. And the bit about Don Lothario actually happened. I sent her to the diner after the game - since she was no longer welcomed at the bistro - and as she was coming out, he attacked her. Didn't catch the actual fight - I was so thrown off guard by his attack, since she's such a nice little sim. And no, he wasn't the bistro chef, so I don't know what his problem was. I don't even remember the two of them having met, before the attack. But since he did it, I decided to make it a part of the story. Anyway, I am going to delete funds from her, because it is ridiculous how much money she's been making. By the end of her 2nd day of work, she had gone from 778 simoleons in total family funds to almost 4000. For 4 frammin' hours of work! That's just nuts. Especially since I'm playing her like she's a struggling new grad. So, I figure she has outstanding student loans that she's still paying off. Also, it's crazy how easy this LTW is to achieve - especially after having gone to Uni. So I may make her screw up somewhere along the line, just to make this more interesting. Maybe when she gets to Bridgeport.

Moving in victims....errr...Sims

Sad to say, I was unable to find any snowmobiles. Not sure why EA didn’t make some when they released Seasons, but then I remembered that EA didn’t really make very many vehicles for the entire Sims 3 – that was left up to modders. Lazy EA. So, I hopped over to Fresh Prince and grabbed his Jeep. Not a snowmobile, but one of the 1st off-roaders.

Today I pretty much finished my essential community lots and decided to move in some Sims. When you open this world, there are Sims living in it. But I like to create drama in my worlds, so I’m killing most of those early settlers and replacing them with some new victims. And while I was killing them, I noticed that this world has no graveyard. NO GRAVEYARD!!!!! So, I definitely need to make one.

Anyway, rfllong7 obviously had a story in mind when she was doing this world. Not a complete one, but one nonetheless. In her Sims’ bios she alludes to the idea that there was some sort of disaster in Riverview and an unknown “Corporation” was press-ganging Sims into coming and working on this hell-hole. I’m not really sure if this is supposed to be Riverview after an event, or if some of the residents were evacuated to this world. So I decided to make this an alien planet, that is being colonized by the Nebula Corporation (a name gleaned from Lunatic Lakes), which is a group owned by the ever-popular Landgraabs. When they first came here, it was a semi-habitable world, with average weather. The Nebula scientists were headed by one Albert Wesker – someone I had never heard of, since I don’t play Resident Evil. But I saw his Sim over on TSR, read the description, and decided he should head my new scientific community. So, in their early attempts to terraform the world into a tropical paradise, someone screwd up royally, and instead, made it into the icy mess it is. But the Landgraabs can’t admit they made a mistake, so they decided to tell their investors that “the evil meteors did it!” And Wesker? He’s still running the place. Well, he runs the scientific community, while his wife – who he’s been experimenting on – is the political leader of the planet. The “real” Albert didn’t have a wife, but when I saw that power couple on Lunatic Lakes, I decided my version did. So I used them – with some changes, of course.

Anyway the Sims that I am currently killing, will be members of the original scientific team that created the mess. (Can’t have any of them blabbing the truth). While the Sims who live here now, were either stupid enough to move here, or press-ganged into coming. The ones that live in the shacks I showed you the other day, are some of the original crew, who have somehow managed to evade Wesker’s henchmen. But the ones who he’s recruited, get nicer houses. (BTW, the original version of this house came from Moon Base Charlie. I just made it all pretty! And added new crap - well, everything other than the shell itself, that I prettified. Go, me!).

So, this is what the “nicer” houses look like. Concrete block base with a metal storage crate on top. Awesome, yes?! They even come with their own water collection system, a solar panel, and a generator. Sweet!

And now for the lucky family who gets to live here! Rfllong7 had the Newbies here, but while I was in Riverview last night grabbing 3 other Sims, I decided to grab them too, take them into CAS, and write them a nice little back-story. Robert was working as a minor leaguer when I opened my Riverview game. And since I don’t have a stadium in this world, I had to create a reason for him to give that up, to come here. So, in this world, he will have gone out after a game – which Riverview lost – with his teammates, who collectively drowned their sorrows in cheap beer and got totally wasted; then he stupidly drove himself home. Except on the way home, he lost control trying to avoid a deer and KABAM! End of sports career. While he was in the hospital, wondering how he was going to pay his mortgage, car loans, and assorted Visa, Mastercard, and Discovery bills - not to mention his medical bills - an old college chum offered him the “chance of a lifetime!” to resettle on a new world – all expenses paid! Plus, they’d pay all his current bills! How awesome was that?! They even offered him a job as a desk jockey in the police career. And had a job at the local diner for Mags too! And a brand new house to live in! Can’t get much better than that.

So here they are. A bit shell-shocked, since it ISN’T the tropical paradise they were expecting. Sucks to be them.

Next door - in the exact same house - I’ll be moving in 3 doctors. 2 came from Riverview, and 1 came from the pony town - that plastic surgeon who operated while drunk and oopsie! Law suits!
