drabble title: a big oof. who: sidney ahmed pairing: sidney ahmed & iah elijah requested by: no one. project: heart of glass triggers: none? other than sid being a meme since i made her in 2017....😂 sidmeme. notes: sidney, before becoming a proper lawyer, is working for a woman who kind of sucks during the summer? and during this time, she re-meets her old friend, iah elijah, who unbeknownst to her is actually.....more than he seems. but she’s too busy sidney-ing around to realize it. this was just a fun little thing i decided to finish cause i had part of it on my google docs. so i was like, why not finish it?
“Hey, you!” A voice calls out through the crowd.
Sidney’s looking at one of the exhibits in the museum intently, her eyebrows knitting inward as her gaze shifts and she attempts to read about some random historical artifact fact, and fails, due to forgetting to put on contact lenses or glasses.
So, for a moment, she doesn’t catch on to the fact that someone is speaking to her at all. She’s too focused on not focusing and is trying to figure out what the blur of words on the little rectangle says about the display and nothing else.
She pulls her face closer to the little box as she stares it down, before she accidentally hits her face against the box and mumbles, “Shite!” out loud, and pulls away, running so fast, back first into a man who’s built like a brick wall.
A few people look at her, and she wants to tell them to run along, but then she notices who she’s ran into and she can’t help but to smile a big goofy smile and hug them.
Because, well.
It’s her old friend: Iah.
And surprisingly, he hugs her in return. Awkwardly, of course. But he hugs her.
“Thank goodness I ran into you and not someone who would’ve given me an entire earful,” Sidney tells him once she’s by his side. “Are you fine? Did I knock you out cold?” Joking words obviously, he seems fine. And though she towers over most people, Iah is tall and broad so she hadn’t really made much of an impact.
He smiles at her and shakes his head. “I’m okay. Are you? You…hit your face pretty hard just now.” He looks away, and she laughs just a bit, wishing she saw her own blunder on tape or on some funny video montage. But alas, she isn’t that lucky.
“I’m wonderful. Just forgot to wear my glasses. You know the drill: Despite the obstacles, I do what I want, and right then, my biggest obstacle was an information plaque I wanted to read.” She rubs her forehead and now he laughs, knowing that he can without offending her. “I’m glad to see you, Iah. It’s been some time. I hate that I only see you every so often. But it’s always a treat when I do run into you.”
He runs a hand through his hair. “Well, nothing has happened since I last saw you.” Then he pauses. “Or at least, nothing important has happened. So you’re not missing out on much in my life.”
She smiles back at him. “Well, I’ve got a feeling, deep down - and you know how I am with these feelings - that something will happen for you. Something super duper important.” She nods all-knowing.
“I doubt it. I’m not that interesting. I hang out here for fun. Plus, when I’m not here, I’m working on boring things online or at the university library.” He winks at her after he says that and she narrows her eyes without thinking about it; and probably cause she can’t fucking see , and maybe, because he may not have winked at all.
She shakes her head, confused. And smiles, super confused. “You never know, bud...” And as much as she’d like to catch up with him, her phone rings and it’s her boss, calling her to leave. So she leaves. Goodbye Iah Elijah. She sighs. She hates goodbyes after such a quick hello.

I am super duper curious, and I apologise if you're not taking requests at the moment, but how would Dad!Gojo deal with an Arch nemesis daughter? Or perhaps (if more in your ballpark) a Sorcerer daughter that very much looks to be going down the road to becoming a curse user? How would he pull her out of that spiral before things passed the point of no return?
Summary: Gojo trying to handle his "problem child".
Characters: Gojo Satoru & villain!daughter
A/N: HELLO, I FORGOT THIS WAS SITTING IN MY DRAFTS AND I THOUGHT I POSTED IT I'm fine with headcanons whenever, which is why hc requests are never closed (I might take my time to respond though bc busy person). Nie's "stop mentioning the higher ups in your Gojo stuff" challenge, sigh
Let's say her villain origin story has something to do with feeling like being neglected by Gojo. Whether he does it on purpose or not - it's probably the latter because he's just so busy. It doesn't matter much whether she's well taken care of; every child wants to spend time with their parents at some point, right? But it's not easy since he's always busy or away on missions. She sees him being more affectionate towards his students (in her view anyway) and grows frustrated. It doesn't stop here, though. More and more factors come into play and one day...
Arch nemesis daughter:
say sike rn
I'm gonna be super honest and say it: it'll probably end tragically
I somehow don't doubt that the daughter would be weak, so if she's already on the enemies' side... yikes
Gojo would probably try to look the other way, as long as the trouble she causes isn't on a large scale - at this point, there is no chance of convincing her to come back anymore
He's conflicted.
On the one hand, the higher ups have told him to put her down. It's not like he gives a shit about whatever the old farts want him to do, most of the time.
This is his daughter, his irredeemable daughter who grew to hate him so much, she defected.
But this is also his daughter, his beloved daughter he watched grow whenever he was able to all these years
He'll often wonder, what he could have done better. He knows why she abandoned his side.... but given the circumstances, would anything have been different... if he had treated her even better whenever he was around?
His conscience says... logaically, it has to be him. He has to stop her. Not only is it his duty as the current top sorcerer but also his responsibility since 1) it's his fault, 2) it's his daughter.
But his heart? It's screaming out to him to not harm her in any way. The guilt in his chest is already enough to suffocate him in the darkest depths anyway. If he took her youth away too-
It's safe to say the two of them will have to meet at some point and it's going to be ugly
They fight
(but of course, Gojo holds back as he cannot bear going all out against his own daughter)
Pick your poison because I see no happy ending for this one, sorry
possible curse user daughter:
he notices changes in behavior right away
If he can help it - and he can - then he'll clear his entire schedule for her to talk it out with her, presenting his view and understanding her, then maybe spend some urgently needed quality time together
but this is not enough to convince her... until...
Let's assume she's already made contact with some curse users who are interested in recruiting her for their... team or plans.
Naturally, they are sus of her because she's the daughter of the strongest, so ofc they'd tail her to see if she's a mole or not
When they see her out with Gojo... suspicions confirmed.
They wait for an opportunity to attack... Despite being somewhat prepared to go up against Gojo Satoru, they won't risk it if they can avoid it.
And then, they launch their ambush when he's absent for a moment
Everything happens in a flash, so she doesn't even realize that she was not hit... until she processes being in the arms of her father, who's shielding her with his body
Of course he's uninjured, right? He must be, he has Infinity, right?
Wrong, something messed with his ability and to her horror, the daughter realizes that he really shielded her from a freaking nasty hit
The blood's streaming down his back and somehow his Reversed Cursed Technique won't work, yet the first thing he does is ask her, "Are you okay?" Because her safety matters the most to him.
It is that moment when it dawns on her: he really does care about her, even if he doesn't show it much.
All the soft moments he bestowed upon her resurface - all the times they spent time together, the gifts she took for granted, the times he made her laugh - everything, and the sensation of barely missing a bad hit, comes crashing down on her and she's perplexed, frozen on the spot.
Of course Dad!Gojo takes care of the enemies but when he's done, he just... sorta collapses next to her, trying to act cool when she clearly sees the blood
Somehow they make it home and she patches him up, which is also the time where they have a heart-to-heart talk and they talk things out (which was his original plan after spending time with her but then those curse users came)
Things are still rocky but they're on better terms now; both sides are trying their best to make amends
Who knows? Maybe one day they will be able to pick up the broken pieces and fix them together.

January 6th 5 p.m.
The entirety that is left of December I’ve been a slightly emotional mess. Okay, remove slightly, because I’m an emotional mess. Period. I don’t know what caused it. Maybe it’s the fact that we have our invitations ready. Maybe it’s because Christmas spend as an engaged couple was a little overwhelming. Maybe spending New Years together in a club with my friends and my fiancé was too much of a change after spending them in pretty much solitude for many years.
So, it doesn’t surprise me at all that I have been bawling non stop for one of my final fittings for my wedding dress. It’s absolutely gorgeous. It hugs me in all the right places and I feel like such a bride in it.
When I walk into Henry’s office, I see he is alone with some paperwork. Henry looks up from his desk and smiles widely when he notices it’s me. ‘Hi sweetheart. How was the dress fitting?’
Oh goodness, there are the tears again. ‘Oh no, I’m sorry.’
He perks up in his seat, immediately alert because of the tears. ‘Was it no good?’ he asks me, ushering me over.
‘No, honey, it was amazing. The dress is so beautiful.’ I sit on his desk after he cleaned it up for me and I let out a deep sigh. ‘It’s just one step closer to becoming a bride.’
He nods with a smile. ‘It sure is. I can’t wait to marry you.’ Henry examines my face and he asks: ‘Are you sure you’re alright?’
‘Yeah, I’m totally okay. It’s just that I’ve been super duper emotional these passed few weeks. It’s just me being idiotic, so please just indulge me.’
‘I don’t think it’s idiotic,’ he says. ‘But when my future wife isn’t feeling well, I might as well make sure she feels better. Is there something I can do, baby girl?’
‘It’s fine, it’s fine,’ I chuckle. ‘Just silly old me being overly emotional, so let’s forget it. On another note, how are you doing? You have a lot of work to do?’
He nods. ‘Yeah, but I can take it home with me. The walls are closing me in, so to speak.’
‘How about,’ I say, ‘you and I go have something to eat? I’m starving.’
Henry agrees to that a little too quickly. In lightening speed, he packed his suitcase and holds me hand as we walk towards the elevator. People in the company slowly began to notice that I was dating the boss and they have all been very supportive.
To our faces, but I think they mean it.
Once Henry and I got in his car, he doesn’t start it up immediately. I want to ask him what’s wrong, but he gives me a desperate kiss on my lips. ‘Are you alright?’ I ask him.
‘I just missed you a lot,’ he says. ‘Might’ve had some never ending phone calls. I’m glad to finally see you. I might be a little obsessed with you.’
I blush. ‘I’m such a lucky woman,’ I admit.
Henry now does start the car and as he drives through the busy New York streets, he asks me where I want to eat. I simply shrug, telling him he can decide. He gets this slightly smug grin on his lips, but it’s not new to me.
Ever since our little conversation, where I just called it as it is (he is pretty much a dom and I’m probably the biggest sub he’ll ever encounter), he has been actively enjoying it a lot more. Every time I say he can decide, every time I ask him to make a phone call for me, every time I ask his opinion on some clothing, it kinda feeds his ego.
Of course it’s not exactly like they describe it online, but with the way we do it, it feels so natural with him. It’s exactly the way I like it.
We stop at one of my favorite places to eat and when Henry and I walk in, the waiter seems to recognize us. He even asks us if we want the usual, which we both want. Henry and I are seated next to each other and we stare at the aquarium.
Henry has his arm wrapped around my shoulders, as he sighs deeply in content. We’re sitting pretty secluded, just the way Henry likes it. Privacy is a big deal to him and I don’t disagree with it. When my friends and I go out to the clubs he can get us into, he makes sure there is a safe spot for us to sit, lots of privacy and sometimes it comes with a bouncer, making sure no unwanted guests are joining us.
‘You’re tired,’ I note, my eyes following the clownfish that is swimming around. ‘Can I help you with something?’
‘No, no, baby, don’t you worry about me,’ he says. He presses a kiss on my forehead, before whispering in my ear: ‘Daddy’s alright, baby girl.’
My friends know about us, about me calling him daddy every now and then, but they had yet to catch us. Until a few days ago, where I forgot they were around and I mindlessly let it slip when he was preparing some breakfast for us. The audible gasp both Genevieve and Viola let out, caused me to actually wanting to die of shame and they haven’t let it go ever since.
But hearing him refer to himself as daddy, makes me forget all about that mortifying moment, and simply lets me appreciate what we have.
Henry and I enjoy our food, sip on our drinks as we share some simple stories of today. ‘What are your plans for later today?’ he asks me. ‘Or tomorrow?’
‘Not much, since the boss isn’t allowing me to “overwork” myself.’
He chuckles. ‘I heard the weather is gonna be killing tomorrow. I already told the other employees they can work from home.’
‘Oh,’ I say, ‘so, you’re staying home too?’
‘I am. I was thinking about maybe starting on our guest list?’
‘Starting?’ I ask him. ‘You probably forgot about Genevieve being involved. We already have a guest list. We can maybe go look for the perfect wedding rings. Oh my, we could do that.’
‘Sounds good to me.’ He takes my hand in his, admiring the engagement ring. ‘We could go for something similar to each other, but yours much more dainty.’
‘You checked rings already?’
‘I might’ve,’ he admits. ‘Just want the best for you.’
‘I love you,’ I whisper, as my heart swells with love and adoration. ‘I love you so much.’
February 14th 9 p.m.
It’s that time again. It’s that time where Henry decided to use the vibrator again with remote control. The catch this time? We’re not in our penthouse, not at his office totally shut off for other people to come in. We’re at a restaurant celebrating my birthday.
He does this from time to time, simply because he seems to enjoy me suffering, however this is the first time we’re actually in public. We’re sitting next to one another, staring over the city at night, as my leg is moving up and down nervously. The vibrations come and go and each time I’m so close, he must sense it, because he turns it off completely.
‘Baby girl,’ he says in a dangerous tone, ‘careful with your lips, now. Don’t chew on them.’
I let out a sigh, followed by a pout. ‘You’re torturing me,’ I whimper.
Almost like he was waiting on me admitting it, because the vibrations slowly come back to life. ‘I am?’
I nod. ‘Please, let’s just get out of here. I already finished my dessert.’
‘But I haven’t.’ He leans back and takes a sip of his drink. ‘Have I told you you look absolutely stunning tonight?’
I look down my silver dress, that is pretty flashy, but in this restaurant everyone looks showy here. Compared to them, I look pretty modest. ‘Yes, you did,’ I say.
Henry gently leans down, giving me a kiss on my forehead. ‘I love you, you’re doing so well.’ I receive another kiss on the tip of my nose and he descends to my lips.
I whimper against him, as I push my legs together, desperate for some friction, some touch. Anything. ‘Daddy,’ I mumble against his lips.
‘You want to go home, baby?’
‘Yes, please.’
He smiles. ‘Okay, let me help you in your coat,’ he says, finally taking a bit of pity on me. ‘Baby girl, you’re doing so well.’
I stand up on wobbly legs and he helps me in my coat. I zip it up and the two of us walk out of this place. Henry holds my purse in his hand, while the other is securely placed on the small of my back. He tells the limo chauffeur to drive towards home and we get in the back.
As the limo starts to drive, Henry unzips my coat and smiles. ‘Let’s take this all off.’
‘All of it? I can’t. I have to get from the limo back to the apartment, remember?’
‘That is why you’re wearing a longer coat, baby girl,’ he retorts. ‘Take it off.’
I do as he tells me to. I take off the coat, before I push the straps of my dress down. Since this isn’t a dress that requires a bra, I’m left in nothing but my flimsy thongs. He orders me to give them to him and like usual, they end up in his pocket. He actually takes the damn time to neatly fold my dress so he can put it in my purse.
Besides my heels, I’m totally naked in the back of the limo. I think it’s good that Henry owns this limo and pays this driver a lot of money. I wonder if the driver knows what is up—especially since this isn’t the first time we’ve had some sexual escapades in the back—but there isn’t a lot of time to think about it, as Henry pulls me on his lap. His lips wrap around my hardened nipple, his teeth softly sinking into it. He turns on the vibrator, as his bulge pressing against my clit. His hands are kneading the flesh of my behind. It’s so messy. We’re so messy, but that is what I love about him. No matter how dirty it gets, he always wants more. More of me. More of us.
He spreads my asscheeks apart, before on of his fingers gently touches my puckered hole, before letting it slip passed the tight muscle. ‘One day,’ he whispers, ‘it’ll be a lot more than just my finger, baby.’
The moan that’s caused because of all that, is a lot louder than I originally intended and he gives me a firm and loud smack on my behind.
The driver definitely knows now what we’re doing.
‘Quiet, baby girl,’ he grunts, ‘otherwise this pretty ass of yours is gonna be very red and very painful for you to sit on.’
I nod, as I resit on his lap a little, causing the vibrator to shift a bit and it hits the exact right spot. Keeping it quiet is nearly impossible, especially because he has been teasing me the entire night. His hand lands on my ass again and again and again. ‘What did I just say?’
‘Sorry, daddy, it’s just that… I’m so close.’ I am already clenching around the toy and Henry kisses me to stop me from making to much noise. It’s barely working, as I ride out my high on his lap. He turns off the vibrator with a smile and his finger exits from my tight hole. He helps me in my coat and says: ‘I believe we’re almost home.’
With nothing but a very short coat on and the vibrator still buried deep inside of me, the two of us get out of the limo. I avoid eye contact with the driver, who despite his own best efforts, can’t hide the fact that he knows exactly what happened back there. After Henry gave him a ridiculously large tip, we walk towards the entrance of our building. It’s freezing cold and it’s not helping that the insides of my thighs are still a bit wet.
We step into the elevator and Henry stands behind me, his hand on my side, as a group of business men and women also step in. They are loud, meaning that Henry could easily turn on the vibrator and no one would notice.
Great minds must think alike, because he turns it on. I somehow manage to keep it sort of together, but it’s hard, especially with the way I feel my hardened nipples rub against the inside of my coat and Henry’s noticeable bulge pressed against my butt.
The carpet all of the sudden has all my attention.
The group steps off on the second floor and that leaves just the two of us. Henry steps in front of me, blocking the entrance as his hands slips underneath the hem of the coat. He pats my bare bottom a few times. ‘Good girl,’ he whispers.
‘Daddy,’ I whimper, ‘I’m close again.’
‘You better hold it.’
With the vibrator still on, I manage to wobble to the door of our apartment. The second the door closes, Henry nearly rips off my coat and cages me in between his arms and the wall. ‘Fuck, how did I get so lucky? You did well, baby girl. Daddy is so proud of you.’
‘Please,’ I beg, nearly in tears, ‘can I cum now?’
He gives me a soft peck on my lips, a sweet gesture compared to what he has been doing all night. ‘Of course.’
My legs start to shake, as I wrap my arms around his neck to keep me standing up. My eyes roll back, as the familiar feeling washes over me. ‘Oh daddy,’ I moan out, as I feel my juices squirt passed the vibrating egg, down my legs onto the floor. It’s all becoming too much, so I reach down to grab the string and pull it out.
As I’m panting, Henry seizes my wrist. ‘What did you do?’ he asks, turning the vibrator off. ‘Tell me, what did you do?’
Oh shit, I think something bad. ‘I couldn’t take it anymore, daddy.’
‘Then why didn’t you safe word?’
Why didn’t I? ‘I don’t know,’ I say, but when he cocks his eyebrow, I realize that won’t do. ‘It wasn’t necessary.’
He tsks, a sound he barely makes. ‘I’m disappointed in you, baby girl.’ He drags me with him to the bedroom and pushes me on the bed. Not gonna lie, this is turning me on way more than I originally expected. He holds my chin in between his fingers, as he forces me to look up. ‘If you don’t like something anymore,’ he says in a dangerously low tone, ‘then you safe word. But never ever take matters into your own hands like that.’
Fuck, this alone nearly causes my next orgasm. ‘I’m sorry, daddy.’
‘You’re damn right you’re sorry.’ He unbuttons his shirt, revealing his broad chest that over the course of the last few weeks only got broader and stronger. ‘And I’m gonna teach you a little lesson, baby girl.’
✤ ✤ ✤
After I don’t know how many orgasms with the vibrators (yes, plural), he turns them both off as I try to catch my breath. Him plunging my beloved vibrator deep inside of me. Him pressing the other one onto my super sensitive clit. He was torturing me, making me cum over and over and over again. Trying to teach me a lesson. The wet covers of the bed are the evidence of how many times I already came. He was slightly pissed at me, but also continued to whisper that I could safe word whenever I needed to.
Henry sits in between my legs and without much teasing or preparation enters me, burying himself deep inside of me. A gasp escapes my lips, as his girth is a world apart from the vibrator. He pushes his heavy chest onto mine, grabbing my hands and holding them with just one of his above my head.
Henry has never done such thing. Never took he this much control, never was he like this. But then again, never did I do something that would disappoint him. His lips are dangerously close and he says: ‘Tell me baby girl, whose pussy is this?’
What a question, but I know the answer. ‘Yours,’ I whisper. ‘Daddy, I’m so sorry.’
‘If you can’t take it anymore,’ he continues, ‘now or in the future, then you safe word. Promise me that.’
‘Yes, yes, yes, I promise.’
Henry gives me a kiss. It’s such a gentle move after the insane orgasm overstimulation act he just preformed on me. The throbbing pain is overruled by the sheer pleasure I feel of his thick length deep inside of me. ‘Are you gonna be a good girl for daddy?’
‘I will, I will. Always.’
His thrusts are slow, allowing me to take him all in and get used to his length. With every thrust, he brushes against my extremely sensitive clit, earning him soft whimper like moans. His lips press attentive kisses on my lips. ‘Good girl,’ he praises me, ‘such a good girl.’
My mind is so cloudy and foggy, but his lovely words still make an impact. ‘I love you.’
Henry smiles. ‘I love you too, baby girl. Fuck, I love you so much.’
He slowly speeds up his thrusts, only for him to become a lot rougher too. The room is filled with indecent and vulgar sounds, but that doesn’t stop him. No, it even encourages him more. Henry doesn’t stop, not even as I turn into a crying and sobbing mess underneath him.
I know what to do when it gets too much and while it definitely feels like too much, I love how he uses me like this. He is the only one that I’ll ever allow to do this. He is the only one who can have this much control over me.
My legs start to quiver and I don’t even have to tell him that I’m close. My vision turns completely white for a few moments, as I cry out. ‘Fuck!’
‘I know baby, I know. I’m close.’ The sound he makes as he bottoms out, painting me from the inside, is probably the sexiest thing I’ve ever heard. He crashes on top of me, making sure he doesn’t crush me under his weight. ‘You did well,’ he says with a proud smile. ‘Are you okay? I was’t too rough on you, was I?’
I try to catch my breath, but I shake my head. ‘No, no, you weren’t. Don’t you worry. I’m so sorry,’ I sniffle.
He pushes some hairs out of my face and gives me a kiss. ‘It’s okay.’
‘You’re not mad at me?’ I place my hand in the back of his neck. ‘I didn’t mean to.’
‘Baby, baby, baby,’ he says, ‘I know you didn’t. Just know that whenever you don’t feel good, it’s becoming too much for you, you safe word. I need you to safe word, baby. Do it for daddy, okay?’
‘Of course, I will,’ I say, swallowing hard. ‘You’re really not mad at me?’
‘Hey, hey, it’s all good,’ he says. ‘I’m not mad at you, never was. Stop worrying about it, okay? Please, baby girl.’
‘I just love you a lot and I hate to disappoint you.’
‘I know you do,’ he says with a smile. ‘I love you a lot as well. And because I’m your boss, I’m willing to give you a day off tomorrow.’
I start to laugh. ‘Oh, how gracious of you.’
‘Want a bath, darling? Or you want to go to the sauna?’
‘Maybe a sauna is nice, and a bath afterwards?’
Henry nods and pulls out, causing me to slightly shiver on the bed. ‘Sit still, okay? I’ll be right out.’
As I am relaxing on the bed, regaining some strength in my legs, Henry walks around, preparing the sauna and I hear he is actually turning on the jacuzzi as well for after the sauna. He carries me out of the bed and whispers he’ll clean the bed later on. He sits on one of the wooden benches, tucking me securely on his lap. I was already sweaty, but despite that, it’s nice to be hugged by the warm air provided by the sauna. I wrap my arms around his shoulders, giving him a kiss in his neck.
His fingertips run up and down my spine. ‘Baby girl, can you tell me why you didn’t safe word?’
‘I don’t know,’ I whisper.
‘You didn’t feel safe enough to do it?’
‘It kinda slipped my mind.’
Henry nods, pressing his lips on my hair line. ‘I only want what’s best for you,’ he says. ‘And if you’re overwhelmed, tell me, okay?’
I nod. ‘I will. I promise.’
✤ ✤ ✤
It’s late by the time the two of us get in bed. Since it’s winter after all, I dressed myself in one of his long sleeved shirts, while my personal heater is in nothing but some boxers. I place my head on his chest and his hand finds mine. He holds my fingers, as his thumb runs over the engagement ring.
‘Honey,’ I say, ‘want to hear about a dream I had the other day?’
‘Always.’
‘I dreamed about having kids last night with you.’
‘Really?’ he asks me. ‘Color me intrigued. What happened in that dream?’
‘Nothing much. Just you and me sitting on a porch, looking over the yard and seeing our kids run around, maybe even a dog.’
‘I keep thinking about that as well,’ he chuckles. ‘The whole idea of having kids with you makes me realize how fortunate I am that you’re gonna be my wife. When do you want to start trying?’
‘Maybe a few months after our wedding? I know that I probably won’t get pregnant straight away after I stopped taking the pill, but I’d like to enjoy a few more months of you and I as a married couple.’
He nods. ‘I agree. It’s just that I can’t wait for you and I to start a family. To spoil you and the children rotten.’
‘But we still have to keep them humble,’ I say. ‘I’m serious, Henry.’
‘Of course, of course,’ he quickly says. ‘They should never take anything for granted.’
I close my eyes, placing my leg over his. ‘Do you think we should move places?’
He nods. ‘Totally, because I want to make that dream of yours come true. I want a yard, so we can build treehouses, have toys scattered all around and what not.’
I smile. It’s like he is reading my mind. ‘When are we gonna start looking for a place?’
‘After the wedding?’ he suggests.
I nod. ‘After the wedding.’

The Miys, Ch. 141
Last week I posted a day early because vacation was doing vacation things to my sense of time.... This week I forgot to queue the chapter up because Monday was a work holiday, so I forgot today was Tuesday. *insert facepalm here please*
Thanks on this one go largely to @baelpenrose who rightfully pointed out that one part made very little sense to him and therefore was unlikely to make sense to a reader. The clarification smoothed things out quite a bit, I think. Just in case, whoever spots the area I’m talking about gets a cookie as soon as travel restrictions lift.
As always, thanks go also to @the-raven-fae, @charlylimph-blog, and @anotherusrname for completing the corners of my support system. And, a super-duper extra-special to @drinksteawithcake! I don’t know if I am allowed to tell everyone why, but you know why you get the extra-special, and I hope you are having fun!
BWAAAAAHP! BWAAAAAHP!
“Uhhh?” I squinted in complaint as flailing arms clambered over me. One pair snagged me around my waist to drag me from bed before depositing me shakily on my feet. “What are you - ?”
BWAAAAAHP! BWAAAAAHP!
Any trace of sleep was shoved out of my system, replaced by sizzling alertness when I realized I was hearing ship-wide alarms. Shoving myself into the first clothing I grabbed, not even bothering with shoes, I was hot on Conor and Maverick’s heels as we raced out of our quarters and into the corridor. We paused only long enough for both men to kiss me and for “I love yous” to be exchanged before they turned and headed toward the areas indicated on their datascreens, while I hauled ass toward the Archives, ducking and twisting to avoid anyone in my path.
“Forty minutes,” Tyche told me crisply as I basically fell through the door, panting. “The Ark could be invaded and the battle over by the time you make it.”
“I ran….huff….the whole….ugh….way….” I managed to gasp out. Part of me felt like puking, but I was pretty sure the muscles in my abdomen were too busy to figure out the logistics.
Clicking her tongue, she pulled me up from the floor. “Alistair, make a note to suggest to Xio that Sophia’s quarters be relocated once we have a better idea of when we are dropping into real space.”
I nodded numbly. “And probably… amp up… sensors… give… earlier… warning.”
“Nice outfit, by the way,” she laughed quietly as we finally reached the shelter point within the Archives.
Glancing down, I had to suppress a sigh. The first thing I grabbed to dress myself had apparently been a pair of Conor’s boxer shorts and a very filthy t-shirt that I assumed belonged to Maverick, since Conor’s was usually under coveralls. “At least you can’t say I took my time getting dressed.”
Her shaking head was greeted by faces in various states of wakefulness - this had been a drill, and woke nearly the entire Ark during their sleep interval on Delta shift. But we weren’t out of the woods, yet: the drill didn’t end until all of Xiomara and Evan’s scenarios played out, including the mock combat and various tests of concealment for the other shelters. As such, Tyche stood guard over the choke-point into this section, while Alistair had stayed behind at the entrance.
Early on, when the drills started, there had been fifty-fifty odds that the mock-invaders would make it this far, but over the past few weeks, that had narrowed to maybe twenty-percent. It was still too high a chance in my judgement, and Xiomara clearly agreed as she stepped up training schedules and randomized the timing of the drills.
Taking a swig of water from a stash of bottles, I queued up my datapad and stood next to Tyche, watching the ‘casualties’ from a point where no one could see over my shoulder to avoid panic, which I would have done in a real situation. “They didn’t find mess hall seven this time,” I murmured.
She glanced at my screen. “Acoustics are still too damned high. She must not be simulating for that this go around.”
One of the decoy locations lit up. Looks like this time it’s heavy on thermal.” The location in question had been equipped with a cooking surface, triggered to activate when the klaxons that had woken me up went off. Which Xiomara knew, but did not tell the ‘pirates’ for authenticity.
“How did they get past the combatants this time?” She asked, both curious and slightly worried.
Rolling back the sensor data, I watched it carefully. “Looks like these got in during the initial breaches, multiple points. But the line has held since, that’s good.”
Doing another check toward Alistair’s direction, she didn’t seem to see anything concerning. “How many?”
“Four,” I confirmed. “Sam’s thermal camouflage is working beautifully, though.” I couldn’t help but grin, and Tyche snorted at the same time. ‘Thermal camouflage’ was a bit of overkill as a name, but it was working well in every round. Potential access points were equipped with fast-acting environmental simulators - originally designed for temporary habitats on inhospitable moons - modified to release atmosphere like a Terran equatorial rainforest within one minute in an enclosed space. It was a much more simple and elegant solution than any others we had found for giving combatants defending the Ark an advantage - instead of trying to create technology to make them look colder, make the entire area match human heat signatures. Boom, instantly blinded enemies.
A tense half-hour later, the ‘all clear’ sounded, queueing grumbling from those who had dozed back off as everyone stood to make their ways back to their quarters. I waited with Alistair and Tyche for everyone else to be accounted for on the way out, and the three of us headed back toward our quarters together. Alistair peeled off first, living closest to the Archives, and no sooner had my sister and I reached my door than the page sounded for the post-drill meeting. She waved me off as she answered on her databand, and I did the same as I pushed into my quarters and flopped on the couch. “Councillor Sophia Reid, present, audio only,” I answered. “And no jokes, Pranav… I look like I smell awful.”
“Alistair Worthington, present, audio and video. I can confirm that she does, and she does.”
Laughter filled the comms and the rest of the group leaders and Councillors joined the debrief. Finally, everyone was present and Xiomara called the meeting to order. First, the leaders of each shelter reported in, as those usually went the fastest. There were a couple malfunctions in the deployment of the shielding to disguise the entrances and hide heat and electrical signatures, but nothing Huynh’s team couldn’t fix. Tyche and Alistair made the recommendations around earlier detection and the need to move those sheltering in the Archives closer as we approached time to drop out of relativistic space.
Once that was out of the way, it was on to the combat and invasion teams. Overall consensus was that Sam’s trick with the portable environments was a rousing success and would be installed at each point determined to be most likely as a breach, with trigger conditions to be determined later. “I hate to say it,” Michael sighed, “but we also need Charly’s team to crank up the scovilles on the arrows and grenades.” His team had played the ‘invaders’ this go around, equipped with sensors and readouts to simulate the effect our defenses would have on the various species who most commonly were found on pirate vessels. Evan had worked intensely with Pranav and Derek to ensure that the strategies provided by the readouts were modelled after similar strategies based on which ever species each team member was assigned, to ensure we weren’t accidentally drilling against human tactics.
Michael hated it, but he was strict about his team complying nonetheless.
“Seriously?” I squawked, and I wasn’t the only one. “One of those things accidentally went off in my quarters…. Can confirm, they’re pretty potent.”
“They dissipated too fast against my team, and also the contact element left a lot to be desired. Charly, you may want to consider adding a sticking element.”
“Duly noted,” she chimed in with a yawn, her normal pep doused by being woken up and then the drop in adrenaline post-combat.
“What about the sonic weapons?” Xiomara asked, moving the meeting along.
“Still less effective than Nixe is on her own,” a familiar voice I couldn’t put a name to responded with a sheepish tone. “How hard would it be to train more people to shatter glass with their voice?”
“Incredibly,” Grey stressed. “It takes a very unique combination of training and the right vocal chords.”
“Then we may need to work on adding a projection component. The sonic devices can match the pitch, but not the actual tone and direction. They’re very effective given time and especially contact, but we need something more immediately disabling.”
Xiomara groaned. “Are we back to Mariah Carey on this one?” Objections exploded until she muted the comms. “It’s that or opera.” Votes started scrolling up the screen, and I could see Xio nod. “Opera it is. Let’s find a suitable piece and try using more analogue-style speakers.”
“I still say that death metal would work better,” Arthur suggested as soon as the comms were back on.
“Annnnd we already tested it, I will remind you. The volume works, but the pitches aren’t high enough to hit a broad enough population of species sensitive to sound.” After that nearly-obligatory objection, the meeting continued going through reports from each combat team until finally Xiomara announced the end results. “I have to admit, this was one of our best drills yet. Ten percent casualties of the combatants defending the breaches, only two percent among non-combatants, and the invaders were only able to traverse three decks before they were subdued.” She let the cheers go for a couple seconds before getting everyone’s attention again. “Yes, great job on the improvements, but let me remind everyone - those numbers still leave us below threshold for a healthy genetic population. Engineering teams, make the necessary adjustments with whatever resources are necessary. Shelters Three and Seven, you will start training for armed and unarmed combat with Shelter Fourteen and Combat Team Two daily. Sophia, your team will coordinate schedules. Any questions?”
There were no arguments, not even a groan or mutter as the meeting was dismissed. Before I could even add the new task to my agenda the next day, I received the notification that Alistair had beaten me to the punch.
Glancing at the time, I wanted to hit something. I had to be back up and at work in four hours, and the realization weighed me down with exhaustion. The guys had come in and gone to bed while I was in the debrief, and I could already hear synchronized snoring coming from the bedroom. Rather than risk waking them with my now-frozen feet, I pulled the quilt off the back of my couch and rolled myself into it. Only minutes later, a heavy weight oozed across my hip and started purring furiously.
“Yeah, buddy. I agree. We need a nap.”

M’s APPECIATION POST 2020
Totally stealing this idea from @channiewoo Love youuuuu!!
So I started this blog back in December of 2019 and since then my account has grown to a collection of 5K of you which is absolutely insane! I love you all so much, that includes my mutuals, my followers and my lovely anons! I started this blog as a way to just write for my friends and share my stories with them, I never would have thought it would take off the way it did. You've all helped me learn to grow and get a little better as a writer (I still don't think I'm good enough yet but I promise I'm trying) Thank you to those who are supporting me and help me get by! 💖💕 - doing this now because I will forget come new years eve
@lynnthevirgo: We had a bit of a weird year this year with stopping talking because of ✨reasons that shan't be named✨ but I'm so glad I have my best friend back. You've taught me that it's not okay to go weeks/days/months on end without a break, to take my time and slowly start to learn to say the word ✨No✨ I know you don't like me giving you the credit for how I've turned out but it's true. You've helped me so much without even realizing it, all those times you've made me smile like a lil bitch. All those times I've woken up to a spam about your day, I always look forward to it since time zones can be whores and we live in different countries. I adore that we ARE THE SAME FUCKING PERSON! Just living in two different places. It's nice being able to talk to you about anything and everything and still feel comfortable around you. I LOVE YOU SO FUCKING MUCH! (Even if I was a terrible friend and thought your name was Lynn for THE LONGEST time)
@snowy-meowl: I know we don't get to talk much these days because you're busy with studies and your work but I hope that one day when we've both relaxed into our places we can talk like we used to. I hope you're getting enough sleep and hydrating, I miss telling you off for being up when I'm waking up (time zones again) You've been there for me from like...The very beginning, you always listen to my stupid rants and give me advice and I wish I could so something in return for that honestly. I love you darling! Keep spamming me with art! I want to see everything you create! I miss you!
@mikoto-ica-fics: Ahhhh honestly I say it every time I @ you but you're one of my many inspirations to keep my writing going. One of the many reasons I started writing for skz as well, I love all of your content it's always so damn good! Your writing is exceptional just like you are. You're one of the sweetest and funniest people I've had the pleasure of meeting on here. We don't talk a lot but when we do we're always simping over the men we love and I adore it. I know I can always just send you a meme or a blog post out of nowhere and we can chat about it so it's great! There are not that many people I can feel comfortable with and you just make me feel so relaxed! Love you gorgeous!!! Also I still live with Chav's and want to die but I will smack that dumb bitch man up at work for you any day of the week boo, just say the word 💖
@channiewoo asdfghjkl; honestly I never would have thought people with the same bias would get along so well 👀😂 Then I realized that I know have a Simping buddy who understands the pains that come along with having a bias like CHRISTOPHER-FUCKING-BANG and we can just spam one another with posts. I know you said the same thing for me but I feel super duper comfortable with talking to you which, again, is odd for me because my anxiety is always like "nah fam you cant send them a message they hate you/find you annoying" so I really like that I can be open with you. You're a great writer, much more than you give yourself credit for. I'm probably going to start spamming your ask box with morning messages whenever I can, reminding you to hydrate and take breaks and stuff! I hope we can get to know each other better too!!!
@dark-peaches: I know we haven't been speaking long but asfhgafknag you literally spam me with pictures of the men we simp for and I adore it. We talk about anything and everything, from puppies to your upcoming works and I just wanted to say it's great!! I can't wait to see what else you come up with in the future! Please don't stop writing!!! (Take breaks obviously but you know what I mean!)
I hate this because there are so many of you I want to thank but I already feel like it's going to be long so I'm going to tag a bunch of you! If I don't tag you please don't feel like I forgot you, I'm just bad at remembering URL's! But thank you to all of you, including those I haven't interacted with (for real though, you ever need me hit me up) Thank you guys for always supporting me and being kind! Love you 💕💖🥰❤🤧🤧🤧🤧 I’m all sappy and soft!

half-daughter.
synopsis: You’re the All Might’s half-daughter and you visit him at his work.
# tags: imagine; U.A!au; all might as dad; quirkless!y/n; fluff; comedy; plot twist?!; sfw
includes: female reader ft. toshinori yagi {bnha}
As always... Your dad forgot his lunch for work.
Fortunately, you had free time and finished your homework, so you quickly put a sweater on your chest, shoes on your feets and left the apartment who you had shared with Toshinori from many years; that is, since three years, when your parents died during a rescue mission. Your (real) dad been policeman and your (real) mom helped the fire brigade. They’re been people cooperating with pro-heroes. Your parents met a lot of them; Best Jeanist, Ectoplasm, Ryukyu and of course All Might. Toshinori, your mom and dad been super close friends. That why All Might himself adopted you and now call you his young daughter.
Anyway, although your dad is a known and strong pro-hero, he’s still very inattentive and busy. That’s the reason why you make meals, coffee or shopping for him. It’s no secret – you love him as a real father. You grew up with him, he gave you a roof over your head and provided education. Also, he treated and treat you like his own child. You always try to repay him. So, apart from the home-made bento, you also bought Toshinori he’s favorite black coffee on the way to U.A High School.
And as a side note, as one of the few people you know about Yagi’s weaknesses; about his other, skinny form, scar and many other things. You even know a lot about his quirk too! He trusts you like no one else.
However, you didn’t get to meet his class to this time. You knew other teachers, but not a 1-A. You had your hobbies, work in pet shop and going school of course. You were older than the students of Aizawa’s class. They had fifteen or sixteen years old and you... eighteen.
Now, however, this was about to change because...
“Hey, young Y/N! Come over here and say ‘Hi’ to my class!” Your dad screamed and waves his hand at you as soon as you crossed the threshold, knocking on the door before. You blushed when you entered the classroom. “Oh! Did I forget my breakfast again?”
Whispers and shy questions started between the students. All Might heard this, smiled and turned to his school kids.
“Any problem, youngsters?”
However, you’re still stranded by the door and looked at beginner heroes younger than you. Therefore, Toshi called your name again and asked you to come to the desk.
“...So... Here is your breakfast. Don’t skip it and write to me later about what time you’ll be at home.” You said it quietly and looked at the younger kids. “Dad.” You added this word to dispel the doubts of your father’s students. You didn’t want them to think you’re Toshinori’s girlfriend.
“DAD?!”
Green-haired boy suddenly fainted.
{ ・゚✧ }
After Recovery Girl visit, Izuku’s reviving again.
You’re super duper worried. All Might too. After Izuku’s stood up, many questions were asked and you didn’t know what to say...
“Hey, hey, hey, kids! Let my daughter breathe.” Tall, blonde man laughed again and grab your arm in fatherly style. “Thanks, kids.“
“SENSEI?! You didn’t say you had a daughter before!“ Pink girl screamed to him and stood up from her desk.
“Yeah, so?”
“They didn’t write about it anywhere! YOU HAVE A WIFE, ALL MIGHT?!“ Green-haired boy looked at him expectantly.
“No, young Midoriya. I...”
“Toshinori’s my half-dad, guys.” You cuted in the conversation and puted the bento box on table. “My parents been close with him and All Might adopted me after their death... However, cause I came here ... Hi, everyone. My name is Y/N Y/L/N. I like cook, bake and I love puppies... Maybe someday I bring y’all some cookies or something? All Might loves them!”
Only one person seemed super calm between the laughter and the ton of questions. Bakugo was the only one who looked at you. Only when your eyes met his, his ears turn red. You thought it was sweet, and then you looked back at your dear dad, who with a huge smile thought about how lucky he’s when he has you, class 1-A and both of his works.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
You found yourself sluggishly making it to the lunch hall after listening into the depressing talk between Izuku and Todoroki. The talk left you feeling even less energized than you were already feeling, and all you wanted to do was sit down and forget about the whole thing entirely. Not only did you feel guilty, it caused some of your own past memories to bubble up, and you certainly didn’t need those thoughts swirling in your thoughts.
You weren’t sure if you would be able to look at Todoroki the same way again, not without him knowing that you knew everything. Sure, you were possibly overreacting, but it was still nerve wracking to have all of this information on your shoulders. Even worse, all this private information you weren’t supposed to know.
You grabbed a bottle of water and a few snack items to satisfy your hunger before hearing your name being called, causing you to turn and see Ochaco waving from a table.
You gave a light wave back, still feeling upset but you hoped the presence of friends would help lighten your mood. SO you walked towards the table she was at, sitting along with her, Iida, Tsuyu, and Mina. You sat besides the pinkette and was instantly glomped.
“Woah!” You yelped, throwing your arms forward to hold onto the table top in hopes of not falling, which worked.
He big crocodile tears ran down her face as she ranted her problems.
“I know I placed but I don’t remember a thing! That purple hair guy asked me something and the next I know I’m winning!? I was on a team with two other members from 1-B and they both agreed they didn’t realize what was happening! It doesn’t make sense!”
You rubbed her back soothingly, glancing up at the other table mates who just shook their heard, just as confused as you were.
“It’s alright, that just means you have to prove yourself even more in the next challenge right?”
“Yeah I guess.” She sighed
“You did a good job (y/n),” Tsu changed the subject, “Although I was surprised when I saw what happened on the big screen, you and Bakugou sure looked really cozy. Are you two dating?”
Your cheeks puffed out at her words.
“Why does everyone think that.. It was an accident.”
“WHAT!? Did something happen between you two and I missed it? Oh tell me!”
“Nothing happened I said-”
“DID YOU TWO KISS!?” Mina shouted.
You slapped a hand over her mouth and looked away with a blush.
“Shut up, we did no such thing.”
Ochaco laughed at you guys and you turned towards the sound of her voice.
“Anyways, how did the rest of you guys do? I know most of you placed but I didn’t get the chance to check on you all.”
“Oh really great!” Ochaco pumped her fist in the air, “we really held onto the points for almost the entire game!” She then pouted and pointed at Iida who was sitting next to her. “Then this guy had to ruin it by using some secret sneaky move, I swear he was as fast as you were! Oh I’m still mad at you Iida!”
“My apologies but I needed a triumph card of my own you know.”
“But you never said anything! Even before the games!”
"Well then it wouldn't have been a triumph card now would it?"
You laughed as they started to bicker
“At least you’re moving on to the last rounds.” Tsuyu sighed.
“That’s true, I’m sorry Tsu.” Ochaco pat her back.
“I too share Uraraka’s sympathies, yet I am also grateful that I have the chance to advance, seeing as my brother is watching! I don’t have time to lose.” Iida smiled proudly.
“Who is your brother Iida?” Mina questioned.
“The Turbo Hero, Ingenium!” Iida responded.
“Isn’t it so cool!” Ocahco gushed loudly, she must have already knew.
“That’s amazing Iida, he’s a really great and popular Hero!”
“Well that means a lot coming from you Hakamata.” Iida blushed, and you felt your jaw drop at the sight.
“Ohhh Iida! Do you like (y/n) as well? AHH DOES BAKUGOU HAVE A LOVE RIVAL? YOU’RE SO POPULAR.” Mina was shaking your shoulders and yelling in your ear.
“Mina stop I don’t think that’s what he meant!”
“Yes Ashido it would be wise to not jump to conclusions,” He scolded, ”I was simply expressing my gratitude for being praised by Hakamata while she has her own impressive family background.”
“Oh? I didn’t realize you knew Iida.” You wondered, not realizing everyone knew.
Although if anyone did, of course Todoroki and Iida would be the ones to know.
“Of course, after you told us about your father briefly, I made it a point to look him up, forgive me if that comes off overbearing but I was curious. I assume Todoroki knows as well, if his earlier rant was any indication.” “It’s okay, you’re right he knows, and so does Bakugou and Midoriya. There’s no point in keeping a secret anymore.”
“A secret?” Ochaco looked confused. “My dad is the number 4 Pro Hero, Best Jeanist.” You shrugged, “ I guess that was a bad word to use. It’s not really a secret, I just wasn’t trying to make it known.” “Whaaat?” Your table yelled out, and a sheepish smile coming to your face. “No way you’re dad is the Number 4 Pro Hero!?” Ochaco shouted. “BESTIE YOU’RE SO COOL WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME!” Mina gushed. “I never thought I would have to, to be honest.” You sighed and looked down. “(y/n), are you ashamed of your dad?” Tsu questioned. Your head shot up immediately.
“No way! Total opposite! My dad is the best hero ever, even if he isn’t number one.” You felt your heart swell, your father was the best dad you could have ever hoped to have.
“I’m sorry,” She apologized, cocking her head to the side with a finger on her chin, “ I just don’t understand then why you didn’t want everyone to know.”
“Well,” you started, “ I suppose I just wanted to prove myself without my father’s help. I assumed that if people knew I was the daughter of one of the top pro heroes they would only see me as just that, his daughter, and look past me. That they’d judge me and my abilities based off of him, and I don’t want that, I want to be my own person. I still think my dad is the strongest person I’ve ever known, and I’m lucky for every life lesson he’s stitched into my being, and I can never thank him enough. For everything he’s done in my life. He’s given me the means, the passion, the ability to one day save the lives of everyone I care about. He’s always been my number one fan, so for that there’s no way I’m ashamed of him. I plan on being one of the greatest heroes on day, and it will all be thanks to him.” You ended your rant with a smile, a small blush on cheeks as well. Everyone around you was smiling and throwing in words of encouragement until they were cut off by a loud voice.
“Girls, give me your measurements!”
“Measurements?” You glanced at Mina beside you before turning your upper body to look at Momo and Jirou behind you, who was looking positively flustered.
“Yes! We all have to wear cheer outfits for the next competition so let’s hurry up and change!” She left no room for argument so the girls bid their goodbyes to Iida before following Momo to the locker rooms. She was pumped while making the uniforms, and you were blushing at the sight of them. They were so bright, and so short.
“Do we really have to wear these?” You hesitated to change, holding the outfit in your hands at an arms length.
“Of course! We’ll all look super duper cute in them!” Hagakure laughed, twirling in the uniform, She put it on the second hers was made and hasn’t stopped dancing since.
“Yea it’ll be fun!” Ochaco smiled at you, ushering your to quickly change so you could shake pom poms with her.
“Well I agree with Hakamata,” Jirou announced nervously, tugging at her skirt, “Can’t we just change back into our normal clothes and forget this ever happened?”
“Absolutely not! We were told we had to wear these for the next challenge coming up,” Momo looked at you as soon as you finsihed getting dressed, “I’m surprised you didn’t hear about the event sooner Hakamata, since you are the class officer after all.”
“Uh well,” Your thoughts drifted back to the secret conversation and spying mission you had done, “I was a little busy as soon as we let up for lunch. I guess I didn’t get the memo.”
“Can’t be helped now! Let’s go kill some competition with our fierce skills!” Mina shouted as Hagakure agreed.
You sighed along with Jirou, both looking anxious. The only other person that didn’t seem to be bouncing around was Tsu, but she didn’t seem to care either way. You gave one last fleeting glance of good luck to the punky girl next to you before you were dragged off by Mina and Ochaco.
You all hurried to make your way out to the arena, being a bit behind the other students as getting ready took longer than you all had anticipated. Howveer as soon as the group of you girls made your way through the entrance and onto the field, you froze. No one else, besides the professional American cheerleaders, were wearing the uniforms.
“Looks like class 1-A is coming out with some interesting outfits choices!”
You brought your pom poms to your pink cheeks, embarrassment clawing it’s way up your body.
“You tricked us?! You jerk! You’ll regret it!” Momo was yelling, so you peaked out to see who she was upset at. Lo and behold it was none other than Kaminari and Mineta of all people, and you felt yourself hold in a disgruntled sigh. She was so smart, so why would she believe MINETA of all people?
“Ugh I hate those guys!’ Jirou threw her own poms down, her body covered in red as she was shaking, from being flustered or angry you weren’t sure. Most likely both.
“Well guys, we still have a bit of time before the finals start, and I kinda like these uniforms soooo, how about we keep them on!” Hagakure cheered, jumping in the air and dancing.
“Are you crazy?” Jirou screamed back.
“Yeah c’mon guys, it might be fun! After announcements let’s roll with the punches!” Ochaco started to cheer with Hagakure and you shake your head.
“No way, I’m going to go change right after. There’s so many people staring at us.” You whined out, looking at all the eyes pointed on your group.
One set of eyes caught your gaze and the blush that had barley started to fade had come back promptly. He had a heavy flush of his own painted on his cheeks, and you felt self conscious as you saw his emerald eyes wander.
Izuku couldn’t help it as he looked at you, he knew he was red but he couldn’t tare his eyes away! You looked way to cute how could he not? You had adorable pom-poms, and high socks, and-oh boy that skirt was pretty short. One twirl and...
“S-Stop staring Deku!”
Your shout broke him out of his trance and he looked away a jittery mess, looking anywhere but your general direction, and ignore the teasing whispers he heard around him. Oh man, how could he just stare at you like that!?
You crossed your arms with a huff, making your way to stand with your team mates. Your humiliation only grew as you heard some snickers coming from two of your members, so you glared at the the best you could.
However you knew you didn’t look as intimidating as you wanted since both both flushed and laughed even more, damn it Momo.
“Shut up, I hate you all.” You groaned.
“Awh c’mon, it’s not all that bad Hakamata.” Sero shrugged, a cheeky grin plastered on his face.
“Yeah, I mean at least you’re not the only one wearing it. No one cares.” Kirishima pulled his bottom lip through his teeth, holding back a grin.
Both boys were internally gushing, and laughing, at how you looked like an angry puppy trying to scare someone. It wasn’t working.
“Everyone here cares dumbass, they’re all staring.” Bakugou grunted out, keeping his gaze off of you.
You crossed you arms over your chest, trying to block out the feeling of eyes on you. Bakugou was right, there were plenty of people still looking at you girls, but that little creep was being the worst of all.
“I’m going to kill Mineta.” You growled.
“I’m pretty sure he’d love that, or any contact with you.” Kirishima frowned, indicating with his head to turn around.
You did so to see the boy in question sneaking his way over to try to peep under your skirt. You reeled back your fist but before you could do much else a leg pushed him back by his face, causing him to fall over a bit of a ways away on his back. Crying about a sore nose.
“Little pest.”
You followed the voice Bakugou with a glare on his face, he turned to look you in the eyes with anger in his eyes once he felt your stare on him.
“What the hell are you looking at.”
“Awh you’re so nice, thanks Bakugou.”
“Shut the hell up! He’s just fucking annoying and I don’t the worm anywhere near me, be lucky you’re standing next to me.” He seethed, quickly whipping his head away from your smile of gratitude.
Bakugou would never admit it out loud, hell he was even angry at himself for thinking it, but he was pissed at the fact you were wearing something like because of that little twerp. Were your stupid? Weren’t you supposed to be the daughter of a pro hero or some shit? Why the hell were you letting dumb-asses trick you into things, it made no sense. Now everyone was looking at you and that had him steaming. Everyone was supposed to be watching him, not at you in some dumb skirt hat was way too short. Seriously, was that thing even allowed?
“Anyways, we have some super fun side games everyone can participate in, even if you didn’t make it to the finals! We brought in some cheerleaders from America to get your blood pumping, but maybe our own hometown girls can help too! HAVE FUN EVERYONE! After they’re over each student from the top 4 teams will be fighting it out in a tournament style fighting competition! You’re not going to want to miss these awesome kids!”
“Awh yea, we finally get the chance to show what we’re made of! I watch these finals every year and now i'm actually in them ” Eijiro excitedly spoke up. “So wait is it always a tournament?” Mina asked after just getting there, choosing not to stand with her team since they were all apart of other classes.
Finals are always some type of one-vs-one competition but they switch it up all the time, last year it was a sword foam fighting match.” Sero answered. “Come closer and draw lots to see who you’re up against. Then enjoy the recreational games, you 16 winners can choose to participate or sit out to prepare for the finals. I’m sure you all want to conserve your stamina! I'll start with the first place team!” Mindnight shouted. You all went up and chosen lots, you saw you had drawn the number 5, and wondered who you would be paired with. The board above flashed once the last person had picked their number and presented the battles. “Take a look at the bracket my dears! These are your opponents!” You heard Kirishima shout out in frustration as he had to go up against that Tetsutestsu guy who was on Mina’s team previously. You searched for your name and your eyes went wide.
“Well this is going to be interesting, don’t you think Mina?” You looked at her, and she stared back at you with shock on her face. “Wow we gotta fight? That really blows, but sorry bestie, I’m going to melt your butt off!” “I guess we’ll have to see about that, we are the fifth battle so we have some time before our turn is up.” “Uraraka? Who the hell is that?” Bakugou questioned. You and Mina looked at Ochaco who gasped. “It’s okay Ochaco, I’m sure he’s messing with you!” Mina gave her a reassuring shoulder pat. “I doubt that, Bakugou isn’t that good with names, I’m sure he doesn’t even know mine.” You laughed out.
“Don’t talk about me when I’m standing right here! I just don’t care about knowing extras names.” He scoffed. “I’ll prove to you I’m not some extra!” Ochaco said, putting on a brave face. “HMPH, let’s go cheer girls!” She started to drag you both off.
You were forced to cheer for a while and admittedly it wasn’t as bad as you thought it was going to be, but you still snuck off at the first chance you got.You went inside the locker room to get changed and felt your anxiety grow, while you knew you were going to give it your all, friend or not you both knew out there you weren’t, it still had you worried. Mina was skilled in her own ways and you couldn’t deny the slight fear of who you would have to face afterwards if you won. You saw Tokoyami and Momo were battling each other in the same bracket, and that was nerve wracking.
You changed back into your uniform and sighed, sitting on the bench to collect your thoughts and calm down. Maybe you would have been able to come up with a plan or two to help give you some idea on what to do when the time came.
Once the recreational games were over you made your way up to the stands you heard Present Mic talk about over the intercom. Walking out of the lockers and down the corridors you saw a flash of green and you stopped to take another look, glad that you did.
“Deku!” You called, and he jumped at the sound of your voice, eyes wide in panic.
“O-oh hey (y/n)! Um, what are you doing here?” He stuttered.
“I was making my way to the bleachers, but I’m glad I caught you. I almost forgot you were first.”
“Oh yea... First.” He laughed uneasily, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Izuku,” You put your hands on hi shoulders, smiling at his warm face, “You’ll be fine, I know it! Don’t let them get to you.”
“I know, I’m just a bit nervous, I mean since I don’t have the best handle on my quirk you know.” He looked down between your bodies, staring at his clenched hand.
“I may not understand how that feels,” You started off softly, “But I know you have an amazing intellect and even if you can’t control your quirk all the way, you don’t need it to be brave. You’ll win this no matter what, got it?”
Izuku looked straight into your eyes and felt like he was going to cry. You had so much faith in him, you even said he didn’t need a quirk to win. Where were you his entire life? He felt so lucky being able to come to U.A and meet you, and everyone else that has helped him. Just like he promised Todoroki, he’ll make a promise to you.
“I promise I won’t let you down, that I’ll win this!” He said determinedly. “Great, I’m counting on you Deku.” With that you walked away with a wave, letting the boy have a few moments alone before his big fight.
While walking away you ran into AllMight, and smiled. “Oh young Hakamata! You did very well during the previous activities! Your father is very proud!” He grinned. “Oh thank you sir, you talked to my dad?” You wondered. “As a matter-of-fact I did not too long ago, he told me himself he’s amazed at your strength and courage. So am I! Keep it up!” He gave you a thumbs up. “Thank you AllMight.” You smiled as he ruffled your hair before making his way down the hall. You were filled with happiness at the thought of your dad. If he was rooting for you, there isn’t anything you can’t accomplish.
Walking into the stands, you were pulled to sit with Ochaco and sandwiching her between yourself and Iida. You were growing excited as the flames on the four corners of the rink lit up, and Mic began to talk.
“Are you ready!? After all the action you’ve previously witnessed, it’s time for the real battles to begin! First up we have Izuku Midoriya from the hero course, versus Hitoshi Shinso from general studies! The rules are simple! Immobilize your opponent or force them out of the ring! Or you can also win by having the other cry uncle and forfeit! Easy stuff! Plus we have Recovery Girl waiting on standby, so go at it! READY!? BEGIN!” You waited for someone to make a move, but all they were doing was talking- well, at least it looked like one of them was. Cupping your hands, you shouted out. “Let’s go Deku! End this already!” Both parties down in the rink looked up at your voice. Izuku knew he had to get going, so he started to walk closer to Shinso, remembering the advice Mina briefly gave him. As long as he kept his mouth shut, he had it in the bag.
“Ah so it’s her, what’s her name again? (y/n) Hakamata right.” Shinso was still looking up at you. Izuku stopped and glared at the boy in front of him, eyes questioning why he was bringing you up. “She had a bite to her when I was talking to you 1A chumps. Saying I had to bring my A-game to have a chance against you guys, and really, I’m going to make it to a round where I get to play with her for a bit.” Shinso smirked.
Izuku wasn’t sure if Shinsou was saying this just to try to make him talk, or if he was actually a little bit interested in you. Either way, Izuku could feel a little anger rise in him, play with you? What was that supposed to mean? He remembered that this was the guy who had called you some dumb nick name and kept staring at you when all of the other students were surrounding the class and trying to call them out.
I told him not to say anything!” Mina yelled in frustration. You, along with Ochaco and Iida stood up and gasped as he went completely still. “Is this what happened to you?” Ochaco asked, looking at Mina. “Yeah,” She nodded, “All I did was say two words back to the guy and his quirk activated. I don’t remember anything, it’s like I was asleep the entire game. There’s no way Midoriya is making it out of this.”
“We didn’t see anything during the first two rounds, but it could be that Shinso is actually crazy powerful! Who could have imagined this turn of events! This is the festival for ya!" You kept standing, but stayed by your seat unlike the other two who walked to the wall, unable to take your eyes off of the scene. He was literally frozen in place, until he slowly turned around and made his way to the edge of the rink. “What!? Midoriya is obeying the command to walk out of the ring!” You sucked in a breath and ran to the concrete edge. “IZUKU WHAT ARE YOU DOING! OVERCOME THIS!”
Izuku heard your voice through his internal struggle, it taking over his senses. While his eyes were wide open, it was like he couldn’t see, till your words knocked a little self awareness back and he saw eight figures staring back at him. It was strange, a little scary, but they didn’t look evil. If anything, one in particular looked familiar, and he swore it was AllMight standing there, helping him get some power back into him.
He stopped right before he reached out of bounds and managed to send a powerful blast through his fingertips, not only breaking them in the process but breaking the hold of the mind control quirk.
“What’s this!? Midoriya stopped just in time!” “That’s the way to do it!” Iida cheered. “Woah I was about to freak out!” Uraraka sighed in relief. “Go Izuku! Let’s win this thing!” You shouted. “He broke his fingers!? No fair, I couldn’t even think-how was he able to do that?” Mina wondered, but was still happy he broke out of the spell he was under. You all clapped and cheered as Izuku ran up and pushed him out of the rink by tossing Shinso out of bounds over his shoulder. “Shinso is out! Midoriya advances to the next match!” Midnight announced. “Turning the tables at the last moment, classic Midoriya maneuver.” “Hey he’s pulled that shoulder throw on you before, eh Bakugou?” Kaminari teased.
Glancing back, you saw Bakugou’s face pulled tight, answering without looking at the other blond. “Shut your damn face sparky.” You looked back down and saw Shinso and Izuku standing in front of each other. “Yeah! That was a pretty boring first match kids, but you both fought bravely! Let's show them some love everyone." “I feel kinda bad for the other guy.” You mumble out, not expecting anyone to hear you. “What do you mean Hakamata?” Iida questioned. “I mean look at his quirk, I’m sure no one pegged him for the hero type you know?” You frowned. “I agree.. It’s not too flashy.” Kirishima said. “But, he did amazing, I mean, even though he’s not apart of our class, I think we can cheer for him!” Hagakure jumped up and started shouting in praise.
The audience was buzzing with praises as Shinso was walking off and you could see even from where you were he was shocked. Along with Hagakure and a few other of your classmates, you shouted down at him too. “Good game Shinso!”
The next match was being prepped, people in the stands ready for the next round. You saw Todoroki get up to head out, and you couldn’t stop your feet as they moved to follow him. Sero had already been waiting downstairs so you were unable to wish him luck, but you could at least wish Todoroki one instead.
“Todoroki wait!” You yelled once you got into the hallway.
He turned to face you, his face void of any emotion but his eyes were slightly confused. He didn’t say anything so you took that as a sign to continue. Swallowing, you tried to ease the dryness of your throat as his previous words for Deku echoed in your head.
“I just uh, wnated to wish you luck. I know you don’t care much for me, so I’m sorry if I’m overstepping but,” You took a deep breath, letting it out with a wavering voice, “but you aren’t your father. You can win this without him, even if..”
You didn’t want to mention him using his fire, knowing that would be a dead giveaway to your lurking.
“Even if you think you’re trapped by him in some way you’re not! You’re your own person and if you feel pressured by him-or others! You don’t have to listen. You’re not stuck in his shadow, you’ll be great all o your own. Evenifyoucanbealittlemean, I believe in you!” You bowed your head, tryin gto hide the pink on your cheekbones.
Did you just call him mean? Who does that!?
Todoroki felt a little overwhelmed, not realizing you still cared so much about the topic. He assumed you both got what you needed to say out of the way and that was that. But he had to admit, his chest did feel a bit lighter after your speech. Like a few of his burdens were lifted momentarily, even if you did call him mean. He wasn’t sure what you meant by that exactly, but he could imagine why you would say so. He hasn’t been the nicest he could be, and he just hoped he wasn’t too mean. He didn’t want anymore problems with you.
“..Thank you.” He said, full of earnest and unable to say more. He took his leave after your nod, opening up to the idea of maybe using his left side. Maybe. He still wanted to prove to his father he wasn’t like him. “Shouto.” Speak of the devil. “What do you want.” Todoroki said harshly. “You’re acting disgracefully. If you would just use your left side, you would have had an overwhelming victory in the first rounds. You have to stop this stupid childish tantrum and realize you have a duty to pass AllMight. You're my greatest masterpiece.” Endeavor grunted. “Is that all you have to say to me you bastard?” Todoroki seethed, his back facing his father as he walked away. “I’ll win this match and advance using mom’s quirk and her quirk alone. I won't give you the pleasure of seeing me use yours.”
“Even if that works for you in this tournament, you’ll soon find the limits of that power.” Endeavor spoke, watching his son walk away. Todoroki felt his anger spike and he tried to calm himself down, even thinking about your words, but it was no use. His anger only rising. When you reached back towards the top, you saw your place in the front row had been moved around due to Midoriya coming back, so you too the last spot of the row next to Kirisihima and in front of Bakugou. “Hey where were you?” Kirishima asked as you sat down. “Oh nowhere special, I just had to take care of something,” You smiled at him before looking over the two boys who sat between you to talk to the third, “Deku you did a great job!” You grinned over the two boys who sat between you both. “O-oh thanks! It was nothing really.” He smiled. You looked forward, looking down as the pillars of fire sprang up around the two boys, meaning the battle was ready to begin.
“Let’s welcome to the ring our next players! He’s got skills, but at the expense of some really creepy looking elbows, from the hero course, its Hanta Sero!” “Wow that was a little uncalled for right?” You bumped Kirishima’s arm, so he knew you were talking to him without having to look away from the arena. “I mean a bit, but he’s right, Sero’s got some crazy elbows for sure.” Kirishima shrugged as you laughed. “Versus an early front-runner in the competition who’s way to strong for his own good! Someone who rightfully got into the hero course based on recommendations, it’s Shouto Todoroki! And now for the second match! REAAAADY? BEGIN!” Sero had quickly used his tape and trapped Todoroki by bindng him with it, then using his own strength to swing him to the edge, trying to make this a quick match. It was amazing to see how fast he acted, but it was disconcerting that Todoroki wasn’t fighting back. He had to have been up to something, there’s no way that would have taken him out alone. “That attack for sure will throw him out of bounds! A brilliant move made by the underdog! Way to start off strong Sero!” If you blinked you would have missed it, because in less than a second ice covered almost the entire stadium and there was even some right at the tip of your nose. The cold hit you a moment later, as if it was trying to catch up the ice itself that was moving faster than it should. You were unable to see the battle, but could hear Midnight as she spoke for the whole area to hear. “Tell the truth Sero, can you move at all?” “ARE YOU KIDDING? OBVIOUSLY NOT! MY BODY IS FREEZING.” Sero's shouts echoed around the ice as the stadium was silent is shock and awe. “Sero has been immobilized! Todoroki advances to the second round!” The crowd was chanting ‘Nice Try!’ over and over in favor of Sero. You just wanted this hunk of ice out of your face so you activated your quirk and started to melt it, enough to where you could at least move out of your seat if you wanted to and finally see the arena. You helped the others next to you, melting just enough for them to not have to worry about getting impaled, your thoughts drifted to earlier when you talked to him. Did you upset him? Were your words really all that unhelpful? You sat back down, mind racing as you tried to forget it and focus on the next match. Yet as you looked down at Todoroki unfreezing Sero from the ice prison he created, even though he had just won, he still looked so unhappy.

Team GOLD - Part 7
-Main Index-
-Previous Part-
=======
Somewhere in the net, Ochre read that dark places tended to create an unpleasant atmosphere that made dark thoughts filled the mind. It was a perfect set-up if Ochre wanted to be reminded about his family’s situation, but Gray and Dee followed closely behind him, making Ochre aware that they both relied on him. He couldn’t get distracted.
Well, it was difficult not to get distracted if your team leader’s head hit the ceiling every once a while … Having big, tall stature had its own disadvantage.
“Why is this happened to us?” Dee’s voice echoed from behind. “This is our first mission and bad things already happened.”
“How naive are you to think hunters’ business is nice and safe?” Ochre sniffed. King Taijitu’s scent was strong. They were on the right track. “And do you forget that you were almost killed during the initiation? Because your Aura hasn't been activated?”
“Ooooohh, good point.”
“And that stupid cat wasn’t being helpful back then,” Ochre grumbled. “You could die because she wasn’t smart enough—”
“Not the best time to raise this topic, but—ow!”
Gray hit the ceiling again.
“Put one of your hand up,” Ochre said. “Yes, like that.”
“What did you wanna say, Chief?”
“I haven’t told you that Li never attended any school before, right?” Gray grunted when his hand brushed another low ceiling. He crouched and this time not hitting his head. “I was called by the principal to discuss this matter. He was concerned that not only she never attended combat school, Li is too young to catch up with learning. He was about to reshuffle our team arrangement, but on the other hand, he’d like to give us a chance for a bit longer. I said to him to give us more time.”
“But—” Ochre scratched his head. “But we need to pass combat school first before applying to the academy. It’s the requirement!”
“Not for the scholarship, remember?” Dee replied. “Y’know I don’t have any of those bloody certificates or diplomas or what-what from combat school. I’m too old to attend combat school and none of my direct family is a huntsman or huntress.”
“Me neither. But I had a huntsman help me with a recommendation letter and skill test from combat school.”
“Skill test—what?! I don’t need to pay those bloody scumbags to fake the documents needed to apply to the academy?”
“You did what?!”
There were so many unexpected things that came up. Ochre pinched the bridge of his nose, confused to find out he was the only one who was a formal graduate from combat school. They didn’t talk much about their past education. Dee was the only one who kept saying she skipped combat school and even with those frequent statements, Ochre still forgot the requirement for their scholarship was different.
“Let’s put this topic for later,” Gray mumbled. “If you really want to talk about it again.”
“We definitely need to adjust our knowledge level,” Ochre added. “But, later.”
“Ochre, how well do you know about Grimm behaviour?” Gray asked.
“Just enough. Why?”
“I think it was odd for the King Taijitu to retreat rather than continue attacking us. Grimm is supposed to be attracted to negative emotions, right?”
Good question.
Ochre walked slower. “What did everyone say about its size? Normal? Too big?”
“Ain’t remember anyone said too big, so I suppose it’s normal?” Dee combed her short hair with fingers. “Ya, Chief?”
“Yes. I suppose it’s normal sized.”
“Just like you suggested, its behaviour was off.” Ochre squinted his eyes, trying to get a better look of his surroundings. King Taijitu’s scent was all over the place and Ochre needed another hint to determine where the creature went. “Anyway, don’t kill King Taijitu at all cost before we manage to save--to save … her.”
“Never thought there’ll be the day where I have to fight in the darkness,” Dee commented.
Gray made a low hum. “We can bring some light, actually.”
He gestured to both Ochre and Dee, pointing at a cluster of crystal near the cave wall. Ochre aimed the flashlight over there. He immediately recognized the crystal as raw Dust crystal. But Ochre couldn’t determine what elemental the crystal was.
“This is a composite Dust,” Gray explained. “We called it the Glow Dust. The lightstick we bring is chemical-based and it lasts around 6 hours lifetime, while Dust-based lightstick can last at least a whole week.”
“Can we light this one up, Chief?”
“Yes. Using Aura or lightning or fire Dust. It will last longer with Aura.”
“But if we can see the Grimm, they can also--wait …” Ochre paused mid-sentence. “Is this the same material for flash grenade?”
“I’m not sure,” Gray frowned. “But I always hear the miner warned each other about not dropping this composite Dust if you don’t want to be blind.”
“Blind???” Dee hissed. “That’s dangerous! Super-duper dangerous!”
“If we can use it to blind the Grimm for our advantage …,” Ochre suggested. He was sure Gray would reject it.
“That might work.” Gray, unexpectedly, agreed. He dug out a few composite Dust crystal and divided several pieces to his teammates. “The blinding effect isn’t permanent. For now, find the Grimm, surveyed the surroundings really quick, and then disable it without killing it.”
“We can kill one of King Taijitu’s heads and pin it to the ground.” Ochre nodded. “It can stay alive with only one head.”
“I start to suspect not all Hunters went through this kind of situation.” Dee squinted her eyes.
“Experience is what differs us with others,” Gray replied.
The moment they arrived in another vast room, Ochre almost choked. The scent was unbearable. It wasn’t just King Taijitu’s scent, or if it was, there must be something really wrong with this Grimm.
Even Gray and Dee who weren’t by default able to smell anything seemed to be bothered.
“So …,” Dee quietly unsheathed her hookswords, “where is it?”
Ochre aimed the flashlight and the light shone on a scaly shadow.
“It’s not moving.”
“But it’s breathing.”
“We need to get closer.” Ochre didn’t like his own suggestion. “We can’t make anything from here.”
The trio tread closer to the Grimm. Ochre carefully shone King Taijitu’s body again.
“I see …”
This King Taijitu had lost one of its head either by a Hunter or an accident inside this cave. Accustomed to synchronous movement of a two-headed snake, the Grimm appeared to be “limping” after it lost the other head. That was probably the reason why it changed its attack pattern into a hit-and-run.
Before Ochre could think anything to approach this problem, a loud thud echoed throughout the cave interior.
Once again, Gray hit his head. This time it was a rather big stalactite.
The Grimm wriggled and slithered. It hissed and found the trio with almost no effort.
“Dee, light up one crystal and close your eyes immediately.” Ochre shoved his share of composite Dust to Dee’s palm.
King Taijitu hissed and moved its head towards Dee.
“Fire in the hole!!!”
Dee hit the crystal with her hooksword, sending it flying to King Taijitu’s head. Ignited by the lightning Dust loaded in Dee’s hooksword, the crystal “exploded” with a blast of light. King Taijitu hissed, blinded by the ignition.
“Tail!” Ochre motioned at the other end of the Grimm.
Dee followed, tapping her hooksword to random scattered composite crystal, just enough to help everyone see.
“Bloody—!”
Were it a second later, Dee would have ended in King Taijitu’s stomach. The giant snake rammed its head to Dee and Ochre. Dee kicked Ochre away before she jumped to the opposite side, avoiding the attack.
King Taijitu turned its attention to Ochre.
“Oh dear ….”
The only plan Ochre could think about now was to run for his lives. To make things worse, Ochre was on the side where Dee hadn’t light any composite Dust crystal yet.
Can I make him ram into the wall? Ochre thought. He didn’t look behind to see how close King Taijitu was to him, but Ochre could somehow feel the creature’s breath on his neck, which wasn’t good at all.
Ochre took a sudden turn, trying to trick the monster. He didn’t see the slope in front of him before too late. He slipped and fell, sliding down the slope. It was probably his luck that Ochre hit a stalagmite, stopping his falling.
However, King Taijitu was still on him.
“Dog-chre!” That was Dee, shouting from somewhere on Ochre’s right. She somehow managed to catch up and now hanging on one of the stalagmite with her hooksword. Dee stretched her hand toward Ochre. “Jump!”
Half jumping half skidding on the slope, Ochre reached Dee. King Taijitu missed him. Again. And it upset the creature.
“Now what?” Ochre tried to catch his breath. “It’s still chasing us.”
“Chief said he has a plan,” Dee said. “Sort of.”
“We need something better than ‘some sort of plan’.”
Dee grabbed Ochre and pulled him, sliding on the slope once again. She stopped her falling by hooking another protruding stalagmite.
King Taijitu gave a chase, only to stop before it could reach Dee or Ochre. It hissed and looked behind. Something pulled King Taijitu up and the creature struggled back.
“Hey, Monkey, do you think you can hit and light the composite Dust, aiming it into the snake mouth?”
“Never tried it. Should I?”
Ochre never answered the question. King Taijitu had freed itself and rushed toward Dee and Ochre. Panicked, Dee did the only thinkable at the moment: jump and let herself sliding down. However, this was the perfect timing to do Ochre’s plan and Ochre needed to keep close with the creature instead of distancing himself.
Or ….
Ochre took out one of his boomerang, the one loaded with fire Dust. He threw himself onto a huge chunk of crystal composite. King Taijitu passed him, but then it stopped, and turned around. Instead of chasing Dee, it turned its attention to Ochre.
“Dog-chre! Jump! Run!” Dee’s scream echoed. “Whatever! Just stay away from the monster!”
King Taijitu moved. Really fast. Its mouth was opened.
Ochre leapt in the last second. His boomerang, stuck on the crystal composite, exploded. Flash of light flooded the cave. There was a crashing sound, but Ochre didn’t see what happened. He was sliding down, blinded by the light and couldn’t see his surroundings.
Something hit Ochre’s back. He landed on a protruding rock structure. He was (probably) doomed. Ochre couldn’t see well and from the noise he heard, King Taijitu was alive. His plan failed.
Failed.
Snake and reptile couldn’t scream, Ochre was pretty sure of that, but he was also sure that he heard King Taijitu let out a “scream”. It sounded like it was in pain.
And then silence.
For a few seconds, Ochre listened to his own breathing. He hadn’t regained his eyesight back after the light explosion and could only rely on his ears to guess what happened. There was scratching noise and something sliding down somewhere nearby—
“LI!”
Frantic steps that followed after must be Dee. Ochre started to see better and now moved slowly, repositioning himself. Dee made a chattering noise, saying how glad she was that Li was alright.
Ochre let out a relieved breath.

VM get to know me
The very lovely @macaroni-rascal and @tessaxscottslove tagged me in this and I’m in the mood for thinking about happy VM things rn so here goes:
What does your @ mean?
Um, I finally decided to let myself start a blog after months of lurking, and once I made that decision I didn’t have the patience to wait and try to think of something creative so I picked an ice dance element that gives me a thrill when done well and stuck “enthusiast” on the end lol (I was thinking about LL’s twizzles in particular at that point)
Any nicknames you go by?
Yeah, the name most people call me is a nickname. Literally nobody uses my full name except a few relatives (and I can’t figure out why haha). On here, I go by my first initial, D, if you ever need a nickname for me.
Favorite VM program?
Mmmmmm this is hard. I think Mahler will always be my fave just because it was the very first one that completely enchanted me when I was watching the Vancouver Olympics and I still think it’s just an absolutely genius piece of music and choreography and they performed it to perfection and it will always instill that sense of awe and magic in me. I also love Nights and Days to bits and pieces cause that old school silent film vibe is just perfect for vm’s style and my personal tastes and the golden waltz is my favourite pattern and they do it so so well. And Valse Triste is another bit of absolute choreographic galaxy brain performed to complete perfection.
Least favorite VM program?
Hm, idk. I don’t really strongly dislike any of them. I guess I’m not the biggest fan of Adios Nonino and Malaguena but they were young and still figuring out their identity as a team so that makes sense. The music cuts in Seasons have always bothered me too (plus some of that music my dance teacher used for shows in 2009/2011 and I heard it too much and groaned when I first heard it in the program lol).
Which VM program has made you cry the most?
I think I started crying the second they found out they won in Pyeongchang and continued crying the whole night and then I watched MR every day for a while and cried every time. But it was less about the program and more about the moment. If we’re talking which program itself hits me the most in the feels, it’s probably Mahler or Umbrellas.
Favorite VM costumes?
I love the last Mahler dress specifically for fooling me for almost a decade into thinking there was no mesh in the V until I looked super duper close at a photo one day in 2018. Also the original Carmen dress and the Prince bodysuit and the green Seasons dress and the Valse Triste dress. EDIT: I can’t believe I forgot the olympics Farrucas dress!!! Also the way the 2008 polka dress twirls is just *sqeals*
Least favorite VM costumes?
In contrast, I dislike something about pretty much every other Mahler dress pre-olympics. Also that one Seasons dress that was white with like the empire waist top thing. And funny face should’ve been in an all black turtleneck ensemble. Also the blue Sympathy dress..not my fave.
Favorite off ice moment?
Probably the Pyeongchang ceremonies? Does that count as off ice? I’m counting it.
A song that you wish VM had skated to?
I’ve said it before but the Civil Wars cover of Dance Me to the End of Love would make a beautiful program for them.
Which program would you most like to see VM skate to again?
I want them to have had a clean Carmen outing so much so I would pick that.
What is your favorite picture of them?
So many...they (shocker) photograph so well. But anything black and white gets automatic bonus points. And I seriously love all the practice shots from Greg.
How long have you been a VM fan?
First saw/fell in love with them during the 2010 Olympics but wasn’t an active capital-F Fan until 2018 cause after 2010 I didn’t know how social media worked so I only checked in a few times to see how worlds went etc. and after 2014 I thought they retired for good and was not paying attention to skating at all until Pyeongchang cause I got busy with school and other things. Low-key regrets but like the two(?) weeks of the olympics were stressful enough lol. Enjoying the comeback in retrospect had its benefits too.
Idk who has been tagged but if you feel like it: @tisaqueen @reignandco @peacefulboo @soshedances18

a life update
if you’re interested! :) i know im the nosy person who loves reading about peoples’ personal lives, so if that’s you.... below the cut sis, i see you lol
I have been sooo absent from tumblr for months now! And I know I don’t owe any explanations or anything, but idk, I just thought it’d be kinda fun to share with you guys what’s been keeping my mind busy and away! So here goes nothin’.
I had one hell of a summer. Emphasis on hell. Read: Family DRAMA. Which left me in a pretty rough place mentally/emotionally. In a much, much better place with it all now (altho as I say that my crazy aunt has been texting me all day tryna drag me bag into stuff lol no rest for the wicked y’all). But, when you’re feeling kinda down, it’s hard to find the energy to create.
I am starting up my web design side hustle!!! Which has been a long time coming lol. I’ve been meaning to do this for years, but things never quite lined up or worked out. Last year, I finally felt like I was at a good place to start, so I have! This is by far taking up the most space in my brain for now, as I’m still getting things off the ground. It’s hard to balance starting a business while working full time, and also trying to have other hobbies/interests/social interaction lolol. PS: If you or anyone you know needs a website designed.... ;) just sayin’. I know a gal.......... me. It’s me. I’m the gal. Moving on. :)
I’ve been revisiting my novel. Idk if I ever talked about it much on here or just vaguely referenced it here and there? But last Spring (yikes almost a year ago.. BIG YIKES) I started a novel with the goal to finish by 2020. I wrote about 3 chapters and effectively scrapped it. lmao. So here we are! Revisiting the drawing board. FYI, this novel is an adaptation of my “Disapora” story if any of yall remember that hot ass M E S S-- aka, how Eli and Clem meet, fall in love and what not. My concept is to take my Ivy characters and kind of build them out their own book series... a series that would explore generational ties and relationships, and give me space to REALLY develop these characters I’ve loved so much. Like, I could gush and geek over this forever, but developing the old Elliot and Clementine into REAL characters (let’s be honest, their development had always been a little... lite lol) feels amazing, and seeing the same character yet also they’re so different?? It’s hard to explain, but it’s exciting, and fun, and a big, long-term project/goal of mine, and 2020 is the year I write the first book!!!! Or at least start it lol.
I lost my very best furry friend, my cat Juno, in December. See above for mental hardship making it hard to create. However, Seth and I have opened our hearts and home to two little ragdoll brothers , who we’ve had for a few weeks now, and are in love with. I think Juno would’ve really loved them too. ❤️ They’re a lil bad sometimes lol I like to think they’re in the preteen phase right now, and acting up and being extra. But they’re so cute and sweet and quirky, and already apart of our little family.
Then there’s just tons of misc things that have sucked up my time. Like: learning how to use my iPad Pro + Apple Pencil, creating a digital bullet journal with said iPad/Pencil combo, researching going back to college for my MSW to then become an LCSW (good LORD the acronyms in the field... kill m e) and become a therapist, researching houses we cannot afford???? literally wasting entire days looking on Trulia/Zillow/etc. lol, trying out a super DUPER extreme elimination diet to pinpoint some of my health issues (which i suspect might be autoimmune by nature, as it runs in the fam, despite me not being diagnosed-- and there is a lot of at the bare minimum anecdotal evidence that AI diseases are caused by food intolerances), went through a weird regression where I played Zelda for a few days lmao, and I’ve also taken up a daily manifestation journaling practice! And lord knows what else. :)
All of this is to say.... YEAH I’ve been busy. But here I am. I can’t make any promises to myself or others are my content, how often I’ll post, if I’ll ever even finish this dang story, or what. But!! That’s all good. :) I’m gonna let myself have fun with this hobby. Because for ME, I need something I can just have fun with. Read all the above points for things in my life that aren’t meant to be taken very seriously and leave no room for ‘just have fun with it’ and you’ll get it lolol. At the end of the day tho, I love tumblr, for as much shit as we all talk about it. It scratches a very particular itch for me, and it’s an enjoyable itch to scratch (???? weird metaphor but ok). It’s fun. I love the community (I’m good at blocking the icky blogs, and love my mutuals/followers/anons/people who interact). And I love having Like Ivy in the back of my head, getting ideas and inkings for it here and there, with no pressure on myself to do anything with it, right away. I want to keep this as my creative, free for all kinda space. But that might mean some radio silence here and there. I feel like most my main followers are also adults tho with busy lives??? So I’m sure y’all more than understand the struggle lolol.
OH I almost forgot-- keep your 👀 peeled for the return of my Youtube channel this year! That was another fun hobby I enjoyed doing just for myself. I still need to figure out how I can make it work for me, in my new crazy life/schedule lol but alas!!!!! I’m a double scorpio and i LOVE a good challenge. Also might be a bit of a masochist??? So, I’ll figure it out, no worries lolol.
If you read this, and got all the way to the end without tapping out, I just wanted to say hey 👋 I see you. You’re awesome. I love you. Thanks for being interested in me. Also, we’re nosy creepers together, so we clearly have that in common 💁♀️ and idk! even if I’m not posting, I’m always lurking/around and always open to chat, answer asks, whatever. :) And if you have any questions about anything I wrote here, feel free to shoot them my way too!! All humans lowkey love talking about themselves (this post? case, and point oof). No shame~
Anyways-- thanks for reading!

Christmas is just the sort of holiday a demon has no business enjoying, even if one particular demon is entirely responsible for just such a holiday. After Armageddon’t, he finally has a chance to see what all the fuss is about and one particular angel is very eager to show him.
Alternatively,
Crowley deciding to stick around for the holidays for the first time ever but, instead of telling Aziraphale that Christmas overwhelms him because there’s so much angel aesthetic and he’s super duper in love with Aziraphale: “Hell is mean.” Aziraphale: “Then I shall show you all the Christmas cheer I possibly can!” Crowley: 🙃

Chapter 2: The Tree & The Past
The problem with being a cold-blooded snake and a demon was that his vessel never quite knew what to do in the winter. He always wanted to curl up somewhere and conserve energy, but could flare natural enough warmth throughout his limbs. Remembering to do that consistently was the difficult bit, early nightfall not helping the situation any. He felt as bad as the humans, really, having to fight every yawn when his skin cooled again.
Of course, wearing some actual winter clothes would help but they weren't his style. He didn't think that argument would work with Aziraphale, following him into the lift to his flat. "I only fell asleep for a second. If that. I didn't even hit anything."
"Because I was there to miracle that elderly couple to safety on the other side of the street!" Aziraphale snapped, refusing to look at him, nerves still alight with the frantic energy that Crowley’s driving inspired on a normal basis, multiplied tenfold when he realized the demon had been, "Sleeping, Crowley! At the wheel of your car."
"Well, you be a snake staying up when it's barely eight degrees out. Forgot to warm up, that's all."
"Well, if you wore a coat- or a hat, or a proper scarf," he gestured to the mesh one looped around his neck, "then you wouldn’t have to worry about remembering."
"Right, but then I'd have to wear all that."
That got Aziraphale to look at him, but it was so he could frown disapprovingly at his ridiculousness. "I’d say it’s a small price to pay. You could’ve discorporated us! And what if I hadn’t been there? Who knows how long you would’ve stayed asleep and what would’ve happened."
"It's fine. You were there and all's well." There wasn't any use in dwelling on what ifs, in his mind. They were never good. "I'll pay better attention."
"And at least wear a pair of gloves," Aziraphale sighed, then tried to appear more accommodating. "They do have black leather ones, you know. Rather snazzy looking. Right up your alley."
"'Snazzy?'" he echoed, stepping off the lift. At least his flat was warm. "Really, angel."
"Well, it suits you more than ‘spiffy,’ I’d say." There was also a fireplace in the flat where there hadn’t been before, laden with large logs already burning cheerily away, a safe distance away from the other new addition. "Oh, our tree," Aziraphale cooed, his grievances with Crowley momentarily waylaid. "I knew it would suit your flat."
The demon eyed the fireplace before he did the tree. It wasn't unpleasant, but it had been unexpected. At least it blended into the wall properly. It was exasperating to realize that Aziraphale did, in fact, understand modernism. He just didn't like it in his own space. Ridiculous angel.

his father, shin gunwoo, is a yangwon native but left to pursue a career in art (more specifically calligraphy and traditional korean art). he’s very talented and renowned in that field
sunwoo on the other hand is not very talented…:/ he’s famous for being his father’s son and for being handsome lol
most people come to his exhibitions to see his face or to see if he can talk to his father…
he very lowkey knows that that’s the case but managed to convince himself that so many people come to his shows bc he’s just so DAMN talented so he lost his cool when someone talked SHIT about him. the wise do say talk shit get hit 😌☕️
dad got a whiff of the news tho so he kicked sunwoo to yangwon
he used to visit yangwon whenever he could as a child but stopped when he got busy with school and everything
he lives in his late grandparents’ house which is pretty old and run down
it’s a BIG problem since he hates bugs and the dark
impulsive and oblivious to a lot of things but incredibly sensitive at the same time — he’s like a ticking bomb ready to explode at any time
(threw his phone on the ground bc he had bad reception)
super duper prideful but when someone actually praises him he’ll probably run away crying
wears designer white button downs. like that’s it. that’s his whole closet. sunwoo bby you work with ink. INK. DO YOU THINK THATS A GOOD IDEA WEARING EXPENSIVE ASS WHITE SHIRTS WHILE YOU WORK IM
struggling to survive in a small town TBH
RELATIONSHIPS
fiancé (23+, f, 0/1) lived in seoul for a great chunk of their life. has to be kinda upper class in terms of wealth. hey don’t have to like him romantically…or like him at all skcndkddk. and he’s super awkward around them bc he doesn’t know what to do skfkskdk (could’ve started out as friends?? idk)
neighbors (m/f/nb, 0/∞) gotta live in mugunghwa. probably the ones who help him settle in. probably catches spiders for him. brings in any leftovers they have???
childhood friend (25+, m/f/nb, 0/1) lived in yangwon for a long time/has always lived in yangwon. knows who sunwoo is and had some wonderful fun times together, but who he was when he was 5 is completely different from the person he is now. prepare to be disappointed tbh
apprentice (m/f/nb, 0/1) the chance of sunwoo surviving on his own is less than 0% he has been living with his parents this entire time after all…so he needs help. LOTS OF HELP. tldr ;; teach him how to cook!!!! take him under your wings!!!!
and i was like baby baby baby NOOOoooooooo (25+, m/f/nb, 0/1) known him since he was little and possibly played together too. have been in love with him for YEARS. but no matter how obvious you make it, he just doesn’t get it.
this ain’t it (m/f/nb, 0/1) found out he’s some sort of artist/involved in the arts so you ask him to draw something but god…no…cus…wyd
buddy…pal…aMIgO (25+, m/f/nb, 0/1) a true friend that brings him out to shopping trips/fishing trips/anything really. just spending a wholesome ass time together
got beef? (26+, m, 0/1) SOMEONE STRONG AND OLDER THAN HIM. he’s always admired strong people so he’ll probably look like that one pikachu :O face when he sees you. probably tries to ask you for tips on how to get bigger/stronger. work out buddies? spoiler: his stamina’s shit
but if none of these work we can totally brainstorm something

Shadowhunters 3x19 Review
I wasn’t planning on doing a review, but this episode was very frustrating to me so here I am. Warning for spoilers and bitterness.
I love Becky! She’s sooo cute! I wish we’d gotten to see more of her. I loved her dynamic with Simon, but I didn’t like how she was used to push S*zzy. It just didn’t work for me.
I don’t get it tho, she and her mom had been in Florida for how long? Two weeks? Three? And then she came back for trick or treat? That was kind of weird.
This whole thing made me think, though. Simon can become a mundane again now, right? So why doesn’t he? I mean, I’m sure he likes being able to run super fast, but I would guess being with his family and not watching them die one by one would be more important to him. And yes, that includes the kids he would have with Izzy and Izzy herself.
Ugh, we get it, Clary is SUPER DUPER special. She’s not like other girls or other Shadowhunters. Y’all don’t have to rub it in our faces every chance you get. Honestly, the more they’re trying to get me to root for Clary, the less I do. She’s just so annoying most of the time and so is everyone’s weird obsession with her. What’s so special about her anyway? She’s just an annoying entitled girl who can’t keep her nose out of everyone else’s business.
“I used to be one of these idiots” shut up. Don’t talk. Ever.
I hate this storyline they gave Magnus. It makes him look like some insecure, passive crybaby and it got annoying after the first episode. I get that’s kind of the point, but I feel like it would have been better for us to see him staying in hell and “working” with Asmodeus as it not only would have given us an insight into a different aspect of his character, but also an insight into a totally unfamiliar dimension.
I love the monotone voice Alec has while talking to Magnus. #sarcasm. Aaand now he lied to his boyfriend AGAIN. So romantic.
What the fuck was up with that channeling session had anyway? If this was possible why did Clary and Jace bother summoning Lilith and exposing themselves to the risk of having a greater demon on the streets of NYC? I guess it didn’t even matter since Asmodeus managed to find a loophole...and now there are TWO greater demons in NYC...Great
Speaking of which...why is no one worried about Lilith just hanging out in NYC freely and with her stepson/boy toy at that? You’d think that would be more important than Clary’s bond with Jon, especially considering the fact he’s in custody.
“Break his heart to save his life” Am I watching the wrong show? Because I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that exact same plot on like every soap opera that exists. This is ridiculous. I would have been more okay with it if Asmodeus did it, because he thought Magnus would never be a priority for Alec (which is true) and because he realizes the two of them are so different that it’s bound to end up in flames, but nooooo it has to be because Alec makes Magnus weak. Like, what does that even mean?
Why do we always have to have a big break up/fight between Magnus and Alec? Why couldn’t they have lied to Asmodeus and worked together to defeat him? Call me crazy, but seeing them work together as a united, lving couple would have been far more interesting than seen them walk away dramatically from one another.
YAAAY, Luke is back...but it’s only to make sure we know how special and amazing Clary is in case anyone forgot.
Yeah...I couldn’t give any less of a damn about that dark bond story. They should have made the story with Glorious the main one, the one that all the others revolve around, instead of having it only for 3 episodes. It would have been more interesting.
Why can’t Jace and Alec talk about something that isn’t their significant others? I mean, considering everything they’d both been through I would guess there would be other topics for them to discuss besides the people they put their penises in.
The break up scene was underwhelming. That is all.
Magnus talking to Maryse was cringe. Like, I get it she’s excited to have a BBC and wants to talk about it, but I mean...does it have to be with Magnus?
I has really this super warrior, who is also an abuse victim, been reduced to a love stuck puppy and a therapist too everyone else, despite the fact that he’s very much traumatized as well?
Like I said, this was a very weak episode for me. Not nearly as spooky and excited as I thought it would be. Filled with plotholes. I will say they’re making it very easy for me to let go of SH as a show with these weak episodes and disregard for anything but the ships

Yugioh S2 Ep 42 : Hello, Darkness, my Old and Also Relatively New Teenage Shadow Magic Friend
Recently, on Yugioh, we asked ourselves, (well, I asked myself since I assume most of you have seen this show before) how does it matter at all if you lose your memories of someone for like, ten minutes, when you will obviously have to run into them again once the duel is over? And if you have lost the memories that they ever existed then what would it matter since you would not know that you had known them?
This is how - They become shadow people and you literally can’t see them anymore for what I assume is the rest of your life. I don’t know how that works since they can still like write things down on pieces of paper or I dunno, communicate entirely through texting like most kids do who haven’t been cursed with eternal invisibility.
But don’t think too much about the logic, because people can now be erased from your life via cards, AKA Yugioh is gonna throw us another heavy handed take on depression, get ready. And honestly, it’s not a bad take. Good on Yugioh for this fairly accurate metaphor of what sadness can feel like. Like, sometimes people feel like their friends don't like them anymore, although they may be surrounded by people the entire time who are rooting for them and want to help them, but they just can’t see them. I think every person in the world has been through that at some point. You don’t often see it addressed in a kid’s show, although it really should be, because it happens so often.
Probably shouldn’t have started out with Tea for this example though. Like for reals, when have Mai and Tea ever hung out? That one time Mai told Tea to take a shower because she smelled like a boy? Or...
...That’s it. That’s the last conversation I remember these two having one-on-one. Most of the time Mai has been on screen is with Yugi and Joey instead. Mai and Tea shared a tent once. That’s it.
Lolmao I can’t believe Mime came back.
So now, canonically, BDSM Mime got stranded somewhere in Japan and now Marik doesn’t have any memories to even go and pick him up. He’s just forever trapped in this country now like Shenmue.
Mai seems to remember that she used to know someone, so it’s more of like you get the feeling of losing a friend. Like basically every time you lose a monster you feel like you broke up with someone, but you can’t remember who. I can’t really relate to that feeling, but I’m sure this has happened to Mai at least once or twice for reals before this tournament. This is the girl who forgot she set herself up to get engaged.
Again, if you just thought it through for like 3 seconds, you’d have enough evidence to say “Yeah but this is all in my mind, I am standing in weird ass purple fog” but that’s the Shadow Realm.
After Tea’s memory is dissolved, next comes the threat of losing the memories of Joey Wheeler, AKA the vague love interest that she was very mad at up until about 5 seconds ago.
Also please admire how far the storyboarder went out of their way to avoid looking up Mai’s skirt. Straight up, they did not even bother to try and cover up those panty upskirts in Sailor Moon, but the storyboarder for Yugioh was so extra that they said “Hell with it, I’m gonna try” and so Mai’s legs are like double jointed and sprawled in the weirdest ways sometimes to cover that crack.
I mean, it’s still a pinup--there’s no way around this character design--but I really think they were trying to not go too far, but then ended up making it kind of worse sometimes. It’s just what happens when you have a love affair a lot of extreme low angle shots but none of your girls wear pants because it’s 2001 and everyone’s wearing tube tops and minis.
Which was a thing. I’ll admit it, I lived through it, 2001 was kind of a slutty time, it was the era of the glittery backless diamond shaped halter top. Which, while time has tried to forget, I will never forget the 20 minutes I spent in a dressing room trying to figure out how to put on a backless diamond shaped halter top only to realize that I was putting it on sideways.
Now, stepping away from confusing 00′s fashion and back to the show. Mai losing these pile of kids might mean more to me if Mai had been hanging out with them this whole time, but it really does feel like they’re closer to Duke Devlin than they are to Mai Valentine, because Duke at least shared a school with them so I can assume that in the past they’ve passed each other in the hallway or talked on occasion. But, Mai is an adult who never comes in contact outside of cards, and when she does, she only ever pushes them away.
It’s especially that-Yugioh-brand-of-tragic because in the mind of all of the characters on this show, we’ve just kind of assumed Mai has had a life and friendships outside of these couple of kids. But this episode we realize there’s just...no one else but the people she sees at these rare tourneys. As we see here in this flashback to her childhood, in the most anime PJ’s ever drawn.
Why does every flashback look like everyone's straight out the American Girl Doll collection? Like Pegasus and Cecilia were in turn of the century clothes. the Kaibas were dressed like little newsies when they were orphans, little Mai looks like she owns a horse in matching ribbons.
And as it turns out, do you know the reason why Mai hates friendship? You’ll never guess--her Parents. Ah, Neglectful Parents, strikes again, that old Yugioh chestnut. It’s like I’m watching Once Upon a Time again. At least these neglectful parents didn’t lock her up underground and tattoo her eyes. Instead, these ones just worked a lot and she got kinda lonely.
Are there any good parents on this show? I assume if anyone’s parents are good we just never see them, right? Is that why we never see Mr Muto?
Anyway, Mai moved around a lot, her parents were always busy, and it rained like constantly--so Mai decided to get a job on a cruise line, where she became a card shark. And also where she randomly got engaged and then forgot.
I don't remember her tent looking like that but I’ll allow it.
You could have chosen any friends out there Mai, traveling the world on a cruise line, doing cards all over the planet, and you chose these guys? The ones with multiple curses? Like you nabbed both Yugi and Bakura in one go? Congrats!
Anyway she very quickly forgets Joey so Rip MaixJoey that was a good one and half episodes, surely the longest relationship on Yugioh!
So, Yugi decides to activate the millennium item chatroom, where apparently he could just butt into whoever is getting cursed at the moment. And mind you, he could just solve the duel but like, there is a card game going on, and although it’s super duper cursed, we gotta make it fair. Yugi’s just here to give some good advice and then bounce.
No laser fights today. He still isn’t aware he can do that.
freakin love this blue yellow color combo PS.
So something that I do like about this, is that the real threat here in these Shadow Duels is not the duel really--it’s to Mai’s relationships more than injury Mai herself. Yes, she does die if she loses, but the more she loses, the more she loses people in her life, even if she wins. The loss of the people is more scary to her more than the fear of dying.
And this hearkens back to the first time we dealt with the Shadow Realm with Yugi and his Grandfather. Yugi was over that duel in about 15 minutes or whatever the time limit was, and after the initial shock he brushed himself off and may have appeared fully recovered, but it took him almost an entire season to get his Grandpa back in his life.
So if you look at these curses as akin to getting an illness, when you lose a relationship because of illness, that can be a pretty terrible symptom that you don’t really see coming. Happens a whole lot though. In Mai’s case, if she does lose, she also loses the opportunity to repair what she’s lost, which is probably the greatest fear of someone who may be going through A Time.
Like honestly, the Mai duel is *kind of a downer* and I was just talking to my Bro about how of all the shadow duels so far, this is the one that is most clearly “I’m just going to fight you with straight up depression” and how apparently Marik is just so far into his own downward spiral that he no longer cares about who he drags down with him. He’s just given up trying to be better at this point. Like his only ‘friend’ left is BDSM Mime clown. That’s a pretty intense rock bottom, honestly.
But on a positive note, what Yugi points out to Mai is “You’re in this now, but we will get you out of it, no matter what he curses you to believe.” and of anyone here, Yugi’s the only one that can actually reach out and speak to her because he’s the only one who has been through it before and thus knows how it works.
Being cursed with heavy handed illness imagery AKA Shadow Magic does have that perk. You can help out the similarly cursed. Even though he could have probably launched at least a couple fireballs at the problem to help her out also.
Holy hell they actually edited out all the little details on this duel disk here. Good on you, animators. Good on you. I’m glad someone did it. Hope that saved at least one of you from carpal tunnel, you poor overworked animators that had to draw every line on these crazy complicated character designs.
So Mai, spurned onward by the ghostly voices of her forgotten friends figures out how to steal Marik’s God Card.
Again, everyone on this show is obsessed with these awful cards and they feel like they must play them to win when honestly--look how much this card sucks.
If this God Card ends up killing her it’ll only prove my point that all these cards are just fundamentally hella bad.
Same with Odion, he could’ve won just fine without playing a God Card but leave it to these dummies to just go crazy with the one of three cards that has been prophecies to kill them. Like, when Odysseus gives you a bag of wind, just don’t open the bag. That easy.
Anyway, tune in next week to see if Mai ends up blown overboard like the servants of Odysseus, or if she ends up devoured by a giant creature also like the servants of Odysseus. Or if she ends up dating Joey Wheeler. That part didn’t happen in the Odyssey, but I’ve read enough people comparing fanfic to Homer that I guess you could make it happen if you really wanted to.

Jingle Bell Jazz, Chapter 6
Love Live, NicoMaki, 3.5K, 6/?
Christmas At The Yazawas
Maki woke slowly, disturbed by the sense that someone was watching her. She opened her eyes, tensed, and saw not someone, but two someones, two completely unfamiliar crimson stares. Maki blinked and hastily sat up, trying not to frown. One set of eyes belonged to a teenager as tall as Nico’s mom, and a near copy of Nico in coloring. The second set belonged to a young boy, also a Nico copy but slightly shorter, sitting at the coffee table, using a set of Tinkertoys to build a network of platforms for a toy spaceship.
“Launching.” The boy stated.
At the same time the other turned to announce, “Your friend’s awake, Sis.”
“Oh good,” Maki heard Nico’s voice from the kitchen but then the Nico sized body that bulleted into the room had brown hair, not black. Nico followed directly on her third sibling’s heels, “Slow down, Cocoa.”
Oh, the future Olympic runner. Maki pulled the blanket around her shoulders and smiled at the boy. The older of the girls was starting to remind Maki of Nico’s mother, with the way the slightest hint of a scowl started when she glanced at Maki’s hair. Maki raised a hand to it, of course, it was standing straight up over most of the top, now, when she had an audience.
“Introduce us,” The junior Mrs. Yazawa demanded. Nico rolled her eyes.
“Maki Nishikino meet Cocoro, Cocoa, and Cotaro Yazawa.” Cocoro nodded, Cocoa jumped up and down as best she could with Nico having both hands on the younger girl’s shoulders, and Cotaro waved a Tinkertoy in Maki’s direction, “Cocoro, Cocoa, Cotaro, this is Maki. She’s playing piano for Nico’s Super Duper New Year’s Eve Extravaganza.” Nico bowed, “Thank you, Maki.”
That was friendly, Maki was surprised, “Nice to meet all of you.”
“Are you any good?” Cocoro blurted.
“Huh?”
“Are you any good at playing the piano.” Cocoro repeated slowly, “Nico needs someone who can help her continue to get the recognition she deserves.”
“Maki is fine.” Nico let Cocoa go and pulled Cocoro into a hug, “You know Nico only works with the best.”
“But Sis, she doesn’t even look…”
“Now, hush, Cocoro, you know not everybody wakes up as pretty as Nico.” Nico was leading Cocoro back to the kitchen.
“True.”
“Hey!” Maki stood, but her glance was drawn downward as Cotaro shook his head.
Nico glanced over her shoulder, “Nico is making you pancakes. Go wash your face and call your parents.”
Maki watched Cotaro nod knowingly and found herself agreeing with Nico, before she could think about it. “Okay.” Cotaro nodded and offered her a handful of wooden rods and spools. Maki crouched down to make a quick platform, not aware that Nico had stopped to watch from the kitchen doorway.
###
Maki could hear how serious her father was, “We talked to the State Police. Some roads are still impassable. Your mother and I will probably be up here for at least a few extra days. The staff will be back though.”
Maki tried not to whine. Nico could probably hear from where she was in the kitchen, “But Papa.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll bring Santa’s gifts back with us, Maki.” Her father sighed, “You’ve already had one dangerous drive.”
“It wasn’t that bad.”
“Just enjoy your time with your friend, Maki.”
“She’s n…” was Maki really going to say Nico wasn’t her friend...Maki glanced into the kitchen, watching as Nico flipped a pancake, Cocoa watching her excitedly as the younger girl haphazardly set the small table. “She’s making pancakes for her brother and sisters.”
“Sounds cozy. Your mother’s been perfecting her bacon curls. They roll around the plate when I tilt it.”
Maki giggled, her parents for all their seriousness, had an occasional goofy streak. Which is why she was so sad to be missing Christmas with them, it was the one time she was almost guaranteed to see it. But as she watched Nico, pancake batter on her nose, Cocoa and Cocoro clustering as she demonstrated the perfect flipping technique, Maki knew she’d made the right decision.
“I just miss you, Papa. It’s my first Christmas away.”
“And we’re so proud of you for helping Nico. You’re a good friend, Maki.” Her father sounded pleased.
Maki hummed, not sure what to say so her father continued, “Your concert’s on New Year’s Eve right?”
“Yes.”
“We’ll be back before then. We have that symphony fundraiser on the 30th. You’re still playing right?”
“Of course, Papa.”
“Call us when you get back home.”
“I will.”
“Bring Nico to the event. We’d like to meet her.”
“PAPA!” Maki saw Nico’s attention snap to her and turned her back on the breakfast chef, lowering her voice. “She’s probably busy. I’ll be lucky if she let’s me skip rehearsal.”
“Maki…” Now her father sounded amused.
Maki knew there was no reason not to agree but...Nico would probably refuse and Maki didn't want to hear any further commentary from Nico about Maki's hoity toity and la di da social circles if they got to talking about the event and what Nico should wear. Nothing Maki had seen on her would be appropriate and Maki had no idea how to say that kindly. Her mother would be able to. Maki sighed and realized she was still on the phone and nudged the table with her foot, “I’ll ask her Papa.”
“Good. Merry Christmas. We love you, Maki.”
“Merry Christmas, Papa. I love you too.” Maki hung up the phone, considering what she was going to say to Nico.
As soon as the phone clicked into its cradle, Nico cheerfully called out, “Come get your pancakes, Maki. I can’t cook properly if I’m saving them from hungry teenagers.” Nico snorted, “But I guess you’re a hungry teenager too.”
Maki hurried into the kitchen, took the plate Nico offered her, sat, sniffed, smiled at the warm cinnamon blueberry rush and splashed syrup over the top of her pancakes, “I am a full grown adult with…” Maki took a bite, forgot anything and everything she was planning to say, groaning with pleasure instead, “ecstatic tastebuds. These are amazing Nico. I want them all.” Maki playfully reached over to Cocoa’s plate, fork poised to steal to a pancake as the younger Yazawa batted her away with a giggle.
“Yep, all grown up,” Nico laughed as she took the chair next to Maki.
“Where’s your mother?” Maki asked, mouth full of deliciousness.
“Mama’s taking some gifts to the neighbors,” Cocoro took a break from neatly slicing all of her pancakes into equal bites to answer Maki’s question, “They watch us when she has to stay late at work.”
“Speaking of gifts, there’s something under the tree for you, Maki. Santa must have left it.” Nico smirked as Maki looked curious, lavender eyes bright.
“We already opened ours, but Nico made us do it quietly.” Cocoa pouted.
“It was good practice for being a spy.” Nico announced. “You have to make sure no one steals the rocket blueprints.”
Cocoa giggled. Cotaro made a whooshing noise from the living room. Maki watched as he launched the rocket off the top platform, holding it as high as he could and running around the living room.
“Cotaro” Cocoro snapped, surprising Maki with her stridency, “Put that down and come eat.”
Definitely the next mother in training, Maki thought, wondering vaguely about Nico and children. She seemed to enjoy being surrounded by her siblings. Nico noticed Maki staring and raised an eyebrow. Maki blushed and glanced away. Maybe she could get Nico to cook some more. Cotaro looked hungry too.
“Need another batch?” Nico asked teasingly, but Maki nodded. Nico laughed, “Just give Nico a minute. When are you leaving for Maine?”
“Um…” Maki wasn’t sure what to say.
“Maki?”
“Papa says the roads are closed and I should just head back to the city. They’re going to be snowed in at the camp for a few more days.”
“Oh. I’m sorry.” Nico smiled at Maki, gentle sympathy in her molten candy eyes, “But then you can stay here and go back with Nico tomorrow.”
“Ummm…” Maki glanced apprehensively at the door, “Your mother…”
“Mama has no say over Ni…”
Cocoro broke into the conversation, “You know that’s not true, Sis. Mama always says her roof, her ru…”
Nico glared at her sister, “Nico can’t let her friend drive back alone, Mama knows that. It wouldn’t be safe.”
Maki knew it would be perfectly safe but she was relishing her last few bites of pancakes and disinclined to argue.
“Snowball.” Cotaro curved a perfectly round scoop of butter to top his pancakes,
Cocoa squealed, rushing her dish to the sink, “Can we Sis, please, can we? I’ll clean everything up.”
Nico quirked an eyebrow at Maki, “Can you skip a second round of pancakes for a snowball fight and then an amazing Nico-riffic lunch, Maki?”
Cocoa had her hands together, pleading, Cotaro was looking hopeful, Cocoro still frowning at Nico.
Maki tried not to sound too eager. “What kind of lunch…”
Nico snorted, “Stacks of grilled cheese. And tomato soup. Homemade, with Nico’s special spicing.”
Maki grinned, “Okay.”
Excited, Cocoa bounced her hands on Maki’s shoulders, soaking Maki’s nightshirt with arms fresh from the dishpan, “Thank you thank you thank you.”
“Don’t get more popular than Nico.” Nico tapped her knife on Maki’s plate as a warning. Maki shrugged as Cocoa’s playful mood took over the apartment and the youngest sister hopped back to the sink, Maki’s plate and tableware in hand.
####
The younger Yazawas had gotten into their winter gear too fast for Maki to keep up. Maki came out of the bathroom, face washed, changed into wool trousers and a navy, purple, and white Fair Isle sweater for the day. As Nico made sure Cotaro had his mittens, Maki put on her coat, and grabbed her hat off the peg,
“Wait.” Nico said, grabbing Maki’s hat and putting it on her own head, twirling to grab something from under the Christmas tree, “Take this.” She handed the redhead a wrapped bundle.
“What is this?” Maki stared.
“Do we ask questions on Christmas, Cotaro?” Nico asked.
Cotaro shook his head very seriously.
“But…I wasn’t...how…”
“Just open it, silly.” Nico bumped Maki with her shoulder and Maki did as ordered, revealing a soft knit dark gray cap with a white bobble and her name haphazardly stitched into the brim. She stared at Nico for so long that Nico finally just took the cap out of her hands, raised it, pulled it over Maki’s head, brim all the way down to her nose.
“HEY!” Maki grumbled as four Yazawas giggled and bumped past her, the sound of the door opening and a rush of cold air making her think she was being left behind. She pushed the brim up and ran out the open door, closing it behind her, “Wait for me!”
###
Driving gloves were not the best for creating aerodynamic projectiles but at least the snow leaned more fluffy than wet. Cocoro had excellent aim, as did Nico, and Maki found herself ducking behind the wall for protection more than she would care to admit. Cocoa had caught her on the cheek once from short range and the sting had brought tears to her eyes, But now, she and Cocoa were on the same side, ducked behind the wall, looking over the expanse of sparkling snow, a few scattered trees too far for any useful cover for their targets, lining up shots on Nico and Cocoro. Cotaro had distracted himself with building a series of snow people. Maki pointed at Cocoa, then Cocoro and at herself, then Nico, and Cocoa nodded.
“On 3” Maki whispered, “1...2...3”
WIth a a yell, she threw her first snowball at Nico, then vaulted over the wall holding the second, Cocoa shadowing her motions. Maki’s snowball hit Nico mid torso, Cocoa took off Cocoro’s hat, making the middle sister lose enough control to start chasing the Yazawa family speedster toward the trees. Nico was watching her sisters, not paying much attention at all to Maki, who weighed the snowball and the clear shot, but discreetly let it fall to the ground, thinking the mood was right for getting to know more about Nico.
“You’ll really miss this when you go to Eu…” Maki started but was silenced when Nico’s full weight rammed into her, forcing them both into the snow. Not the closer Maki meant, but not a completely unpleasant experience, after the initial shock. Except proximity to Nico’s simmering glare, that was the bad kind of closer. It burned.
“Don’t talk.” Nico hissed and Maki closed her mouth, staring into Nico’s bright winterberry eyes and feeling every breath. “What is it with you and Europe?”
Nico’s breath smelled like cinnamon and Maki could feel the warmth from the smaller woman sink into her. “But..”
Nico put a mitten over Maki’s mouth, “Not here, genius. Knock it off. Nico doesn’t need a play by play announcer.”
Maki was starting to feel uncomfortable and fidgety so she put her hands on Nico’s...hips to push the smaller woman away, but when Nico’s eyes widened at the contact, Maki suddenly forgot what she had intended to do. Nico, mitten still over Maki’s mouth, Maki’s eyes wide and worried behind her hand, put her other hand behind her as Cocoro approached.
“Sis?”
Nico rolled back into a crouch and stood, her movements fast and graceful, like some modern dancers Maki had seen recently, then offered Maki a hand, pulling the redhead up, “Maki was trying a sneak attack, Nico had to stop her.”
Speaking of sneak attacks, Maki’s head knocked forward and she reached a hand behind to brush away clinging cold. Direct hit. She glanced over her shoulder. Cotaro. That was why she didn’t have a concussion.
Nico immediately intervened, “Hey, we don’t hit people in the head, front or back. You could have hurt Maki.” Nico picked Cotaro up, shaking him playfully and tossing him in front of his snow sculptures. Then she scooped up a snowball and took aim at a snow person, “Want a demonstration why?”
“NO!” Cotaro grabbed Nico’s arm and dragged it back down to her side..
“Are you all right?” Nico asked as Maki continued to brush snow off her hat and coat.
“Yeah…” But Maki knew she’d lost any sense of cheerfulness, the air chilly against her too warm cheeks, her heart racing, her expression probably a blank as she kept looping the memory of Nico staring down at her, close enough that Maki could have counted every long, delicate eyelash.
“Maki?” Nico tugged at her sleeve. Maki nodded to acknowledge the outreach, “Why don’t you go inside and warm up. Start the coffee. Nico will round up these three and be in soon.”
Maki started to go off, then remembered last night, alone with Nico’s mother and decided this was a good time to dig out her car more thoroughly. She’d seen the Yazawa’s shovel on the porch. That would be a good way to warm up and avoid prowling Yazawas before lunch.
###
Lunch and dinner had happened, really before Maki even had a lull in activity to realize that the day was winging by. When the Yazawas had returned from the park, they had swept Maki away from her car and into the house with them, sitting her down at the table to watch while a complicated grilled cheese sandwich assembly line happened, one sibling cutting cheese slices, one sibling buttering bread, the third assembling sandwiches on a cookie sheet, then pushing it under the broiler while Nico did some kind of magic spicing trick with the tomato soup that made the kitchen smell smell like spring greens. It was adorable, Nico was so cute directing her siblings around the kitchen....and there, Maki paused, disconcerted, wondering how to get back to the irked about the silly pin up girl mood. But then Nico grinned at her, and Maki would have sworn there was extra sunlight coming in the window and the soup tingled on her tongue while the rich sweetness of summery tomatoes exploded like a bite into one from a South Jersey farmstand. Then Maki might have dozed briefly on the couch, but there was carol singing, and being pulled into a pinocle tournament while Nico and her mom prepped dinner. Cocoro and Cotaro won, Cocoa kept flipping her cards the wrong way and Maki thought she caught a brief not frown from Nico’s mom in her direction.
Then, after dinner, and To Tell The Truth -- Cocoro guessed right every time, Nico sent the younger Yazawas off to bed. Her mother yawned through Pete and Gladys, then said goodnight.
“Don’t stay up too late, Nico. I’m sure you want to leave early in the morning.”
“Nico knows, Mama.” Nico whined from her position on the end of the couch, behind a pillow nearly her size.
“I hope you had a good Christmas, Maki. Thank you for sharing it with us.” Mrs. Yazawa waved and turned.
Maki sat up, “Thank you for having me. It was fun.” The pillow collided with her, forcing Maki back to her corner of the couch.
“Of course, it was fun.” Nico snorted, “Nico knows how to treat a guest.”
Maki wrapped her arms around the pillow, watching the lights on the tree, ignoring Nico’s reaching for its return,. Nico hopped up to turn out the room lights, and they sat, on opposite ends of the couch, watching the tree in silence, some detective series based on a houseboat flashing through scenes on the television.
“Why do you want to go to Europe?” Maki asked softly, not looking at Nico.
“Oh my God.” Nico wailed, arms thrown up to the ceiling, “Why are you so fixated about Europe? Everyone, including YOU, wants to go to Europe. What Nico wants is none of your business anyway.”
Maki ignored Nico’s last sentence, as true as it was, and skipped right to the conclusion she’d drawn over the last 24 hours, which she’d been meaning to throw in Nico’s face for a reaction. Quarter turning, pillow held closely, Maki said it flat out, “If you really want to go, why haven’t you told your family? It doesn’t make sense.”
Nico crawled down the couch, leaning over the pillow, finger tapping Maki’s nose lightly on each slow word, “It...doesn’t....have...to...make...sense...to...you.”
Maki narrowed her eyes. She wanted an answer. “Why?”
Nico could see the stubborn. It was carved deep in the quartz edges of those amethyst eyes. Answer one question and maybe Maki would drop the subject. Nico’s non verbal response was classic exasperation in action, as she threw herself back down the couch, ripping the pillow away from Maki. But the expectant silence continued.
Nico, on her side, head on the pillow and away from Maki, focused on the tree, “If it doesn’t work out, I don’t want to disappoint them.”
Maki was surprised by the sudden melancholy coming off Nico. It was the opposite of the brash, annoying pushiness that Nico emanated every other minute Maki had known her. “Your family adores you. They were so excited you were here. I’m sure whatever happened it wouldn’t make a difference.”
“Nico always keeps things upbeat.” Nico drew her knees up.
“Is this about your dad?” Maki asked, her voice gentle.
Nico was silent. The detective discovered the blackmail and thwarted the trap. Maki wondered what was on next. “We can use my house to rehearse…”
“That’s okay, school’s more convenient...Nico’s got the bus schedule memorized…”
“I can dri…”
Nico yawned, sitting up and tossing the pillow back at Maki. “Just work on not playing over Nico. Nico does just fine without your fancy car.”
Maki stifled a crack about Nico walking to campus from Troy tomorrow. Why wouldn’t Nico let her hel…
“Hey." Nico’s voice snapped.
“What?” Maki snapped back, startled.
“Cute. Just don’t leave without Nico in the morning.”
How unreasonable, Maki thought, to use her car and skills when it was convenient for Nico without letting Maki have any real effect on the decision.
“I’ll be running the meter starting at 8:30.” Maki settled the pillow behind her.
“Nico will be expecting a credit for cooking breakfast.”
Maki grumbled and stretched out on the couch, not wanting to be staring at Nico anymore. Another show with boats. Wasn’t there some kind of Vegas detective show on at this hour? At least that had some humor.
She heard a “Good night, Maki” but her only acknowledgement was a near invisible nod as she pulled the blanket up to her chin. Tomorrow, back to New York City, and getting this cozy Nico Christmas cinnamon charm out of her system.
