I wish I was your floor length, navy blue velvet curtains -

The first thing you touch in the morning, letting in the day be it blue or grey.

Or your coffee pot, you fill me up, flick the button, and refuse to let me out of your sight

Until you're able to carry some of me around in your cup.

I would like you to think of me as your bookshelf,

Wobbly old thing, under all the weight of stories you'll one day read,

Unwavering as I hold onto every hopeful page.

But I find myself as your favorite pillow -

Tear stained and misshapen.

You always wonder why no cover seems to fit.

Beaten - holding your screams, your pleas, your dreams.

I have been with you forever,

From being tucked in by your mother

To your first kiss with the door open,

As you stood in your childhood bedroom for the last time and grew up, moved out.

That home now sold.

You buy a new pillow every handful of years

But they cannot replace how I have been molded your whole life,

To be a perfect fit.

dear poets,

if you wish to share more regarding the duration (and technique) of writing your poems, please do so in the comments/reblogs. your answers and insight are valuable to me.

i am taking this poll to satiate my curiosity and to assure myself that i can't be the only one who takes half a day/an entire day (irrespective of the length of the poem) to write and edit a single poem.

i'll appreciate it if you choose to reblog this post. the more answers, the more i'll be sure that the most important thing to write a poem is to "simply begin and write" without worrying about the time taken and the way i write poems. i'd like to more strongly affirm that we can have our own ways with poems, there's no right and wrong way if they make sense to us because eventually, we'll find the (our) right way.

I was named after a relative that died way too young🥺

honestly can’t remember?

3. Do you have kids?

Nope. I have never spawned.

4. Do you use sarcasm alot?

Weirdly, now that I am semi-retired, I seldom need sarcasm. I also no longer deal with customers. There may be a correlation there…😂

5. What’s the first thing you notice about people?

These days? Their camper.😂

6. What’s your eye color?

Changes on my mood. No, seriously.

7. Scary movie or happy ending?

Can I have both?

8. Any special talents?

I am a weirdness magnet and boy, do I have stories…

Alaska

The current crew is three extremely spoiled cats.

Who is/are your writer-crush(es)?

Haha this is an interesting ask. There are so many amazing writers here that inspire me deeply! I really don't have nearly enough time to read them all. I don't know that any of them qualify as my crushes per say, but I admire and respect all of them. I always fall a little in love with anyone who has a way with words. 😉 I will list a few below who I can remember off the top of my head (please don't take this as a complete list, since there are so many that I am sure I will forget! I hate these kinds of things because my working memory isn't always very good.)

I bluster through most of my days, but inside I’m crumbling, barely intact by the time the stars appear. I’m not sure I really want to heal. What would I do without pain? But I’m ok. Really.

consider the bodies held together solely by their mass,

wonder if I'm gaining enough weight yet,

the pressures building between these separating plates, my core all erupting, these shoulders, their blades all spread and raised in an offer of embrace,

or a shrug,

tidally locked in your embrace I'm one side aflame, and one side total darkness, if you're looking for yin-and-yang I'm really,

Favorite food: pretty much anything with jalepenos in it. And cookies. Although cake and pasta are good too!!!😋

Last song listened to: Fishing Blues by Henry Thomas (and one of the few surviving recordings of American quills. Quills had to be made by hand so they fell out of fashion when cheap harmonicas began to be mass-produced in the 1930s)

Dream trip: I’m a nomad, so pretty much anywhere the wheels stop is my happy place. But! My partner and I will be workamping for the summer in Montana. This will be the sixth state we’ve workamped in—and we’ll get to see Big Sky Country! And hopefully THIS time I won’t have a run in with a bear like I did the LAST time I was in bear country😂😂😂

Last thing I googled: recipe for 7 layer dip. Cuz I ouldnt remember which blog I got the recipe from. Turns out it was spent with pennies

Five fun facts

Prompted by @wordrummager : Five Odd Facts about me -

I had an almost- girlfriend at about 6-8 years old. We played doctor a lot. I was a curious physician. Sometimes she was.

A bit later, early teens, my friends and I would sleep out in my backyard. We liked to get up after midnight, strip naked and wander the neighborhood after the neighbors were fast asleep. I was painfully shy but with an exhibitionist kink.

I've worked as a chef forever but managed to get an Associate degree in Graphic Design. Have never used it.

I don't have a television.--- when broadcast went digital I'd already stopped watching it and never upgraded.

I was married for a few years. Alcohol hastened its end. It was actually kind of liberating after the initial devastation.
