I'm loving this enthusiasm, and thanks for the question! The list of my favorite fanfic tropes is quite long, so i'll talk about just one. and if you know anything about me, this one probably won't be that big of a surprise.

Found family, my beloved. When you have a group of people who get together and who learn to love each other, and I mean, love each other fiercely, protectively, WOOOOGH

I adore this trope with a passion that some could consider frightening. Not every writing project I do is released to an audience, but let me tell you, when I'm not writing romance, this is my go-to for fanfiction. I ended up scrapping the project but I was working on an addams family fic at one point where my character gets adopted by the titular family. I got to around the 10k word mark before giving up, and honestly I should go back to it at some point.

I'll be blunt, I grew up in an unideal home. I had to... leave unexpectedly after I came out. And I coasted from shelter to shelter for a while. So the idea of having a family that loves each other fiercely is massively appealing. You know who does great found family that almost no one talks about?

Star Trek. You put a crew on a spaceship and by season two they'll throw hands for each other and die for each other without even thinking about it. If I ever get the funding for professional analysis, I'd love to do an analysis of found family on starships.

The only thing better than found family is found family that's queer coded/blatantly LGBT+

Some fantastic movies that do this (though they are somewhat dated now) are Birdcage with Robin Williams and But I'm A Cheerleader.

It's a legitimate goal of mine to one day have an extensive found family, and we'll all live together in a community of some kind, and look out for each other and love each other. I'm building the pieces, but stuff like this takes a long time to get off the ground.

And any stories that deal with recovering from abuse with the support of the found family usually make me cry, no joke. I legit get weepy when fanfics do recovery stories. The slow build of trust, and communication, and love? oh my god, there's nothing better.

Duel by the Docks: Part 2

*BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG BANG!*

Hugh! Ngh! HYAGH!

DOYAAGH!

*WHAM!* *SLAM!*

OOGH!

*Komaru rushes forward and dodges out of the way of the incoming bullets, getting in close and smacking the closest thug with her hacking gun. Akeru leaps into the air above the bullets and dives down onto another.

WAOHOO!

*SHUNK!* *SPLINCE!*

AAAHAGH!

*Genocider rushes forward to and stabs and slices another two enemies to take them down. She on purposefully avoids hitting any vital areas that would kill them.

You PSYCHO BITCH! HYAHG!

Huh!

OUGH!

*Another enemy rushes up and tries to tackle Jill from behind, but Whitecloak intercepts and kicks them to the floor, crouching down.

Hold still, Altair! HUGH!

OOGH!

HYAAAGH!

UHUGH!

*As she and Komaru smack another enemy in the face, Genocide Jack runs towards Whitecloak and uses her body as a boost to leap into the air. She then throws two carefully aimed scissors at enemies in front of her, taking them both out. She spins through the air and lands on her feet.

KEGH! 

*Another enemy suddenly jumps out from behind cover armed with a rocket launcher. 

JACK!

EEH!!?

DIIIIEE!

!!??

*The enemy aims towards Jill, prompting Komaru to rush forward and throw her hacking gun towards her partner.

KNOCKBACK!

*PEW!* *BOOOOOOOMM!*

UGAAAAAAGH!

*Komaru fires a knockback bullet at the rocket as it fires, sending it back towards the man who fired it. The grenade drops in front of him and blows him back.

Yeah! Haha!

Where’re YOU lookin’ HUH!?

*Komaru doesn’t have time to turn around as she hears a second RPG armed enemy ready his weapon behind her.

KOMARUUUU!

RIGHT! HYAAAAGH!

WOOOOGH!

*SLAAAAM!*

UUUHUUGH!

*SPLASH!*

*Not wasting even a single second, Akeru runs full sprint towards her parents. Knowing what she intends, Komaru crouches down and sticks out her hands. She lets herself fall backwards as Akeru places her foot in her palms, then pushes off with as much force as she can muster. Akeru goes flying through the air towards the enemy and punches him dead in the face, sending him flying back and splashing into the water.

*WHACK!* *WHAM!* *BAM!*

OOHUAGH!

AAGHCK!

OOOUGH!

*Whitecloak, armed with a metal pipe, takes out three other enemies that try to get the drop on them.

That’s the last of them! Let’s get after the others!

Makoto! Guys!

*The group are joined by Makoto, Kyoko and Byakuya, who wrap up business in the warehouse.

What’s the situation?

Whitecloak helped us wrap up our fight out here, but Hina and Hiro are trying to make it back to the camper.

Then let’s aid them.

*Everyone rushes off in the direction of the camper after Hina and Hiro.

*pant!* *pant!* *pant!* *WHEEZE!*

Hina, c’mon! You can put me down you know!

*As they rush to the camper, Hina carries the injured Hiro on her back.

Suck it up Hiro! There’s no need to be embarrassed!

*Unfortunately, along the way to their vehicle, they’re ambushed by a small squadron of enemies, who open fire on them.

*Moving completely on reflex, Hina tosses Hiro to the side, and unfortunately takes a bullet to the shoulder. She collapses and tumbles down behind some crates.

Dammit! Where’d she go!?

Doesn’t matter. Find her and put a bullet in her brain!

Take this guy out too!

*The men surround Hiro and aim their guns at him.

(Crap! Think Yasuhiro, think! There’s gotta be something you can do!)

*The soldiers prepare to shoot Hiro and hunt down Hina too.

(...Wait...If these guys are with Fang Inc. or Zetsubou, then part of their deal must be hunting down the Survivor’s of the Killing Game’s)

(But they probably don’t know who I am because of my disguise...So if I show them who I am, they won’t kill me!)

(Oh...but they’ll capture me instead and put me in that Killing Game...That ain’t much better...)

*The scene that follows is almost unbelievable. Kuripa rushes forward, reels back and takes a hefty swing at one of the cars with his fist! The force is so incredibly strong, it completely overpowers the speed and force of the car, and sends it TUMBLING back down the docks! It crashes straight through three huge steel containers, slams into another three after that, and then explodes when it reaches the end of the dock. The car, and the containers around it, fall into the ocean.
