He's a herder. He loves woolbeasts and has a herd of hubdred. He has a vast knowledge of all known lusii. If you want lusus meat than leave it for him to hunt it down. Dead or alive, he will get it for you, only if you agree to his terms and never mess with him or his herd. He's known for being intimidating, others also call him dangerous that you could get culled by his stare. Some also idolize him for being an excellent hunter.

✦ Curl Devils SPECIE

Curl Devils are species that live up to their name, having luscious lady curls and being inherently malicious.

These species are socially isolated from the rest of other denizens. Devils treat other species as lesser beings, typically they stray from other towns and settle among themselves. It is looked down on to stray from the rest of the devils, or being with a non devil.

Despite this, in uncommon occurrences devils do stray from the rest and mix with other denizens. Such as Aphroditus, a mix of devil and a woolbeast (kreyati beasts most notably with wool pelts), a “lamb devil” who carries naturally curled wool features. Dionysus is a varsity devil (jersey devil and curl devil). For him being only part devil, he was isolated from the rest of the curl devils and forced to fit in amongst the other denizens.

Curl Devils have tendencies to constantly clip their nails, as they grow curled as well instead of normally growing straight or with a slight curl. Its a practice to have hand nails long and sharp, yet it is not the ideal to have long toenails!

not quite unlike her pre-scratch self, she doesn't like the empire very much. though in her past life she was known as a hero and warrior to all her kin as The Rebellion herself, on beforus she rebels in her own small ways, most notably repeatedly running away from her culler until the empire gave up and let her live her life as a nomadic shepherd, caring for her flock of woolbeasts. she doesn't expicitly remember her past, but the poor thing gets horrible night-terrors of the wars she had fought in. as typical for a limeblood, her pre-scratch self was alternian and her post-scratch self is beforan due to how certain limeblood hormones react to first-guardian powers and mess them up.

The Pixie of IX by Melissa Sue Stanley

The Pixies are actually small Garden Trolls that journeyed away from the deep Ravine and started to explore the northern Grasslands. They tend large patches of sunflowers and herbs in the meadows, and often trade seeds and flowers for knit goods at the Treehouse. Pixies are generally very quiet and don’t say much – they spend a lot of time listening to the world and people around them. However, if you ask them kindly and bring them a snack, they are happy to share what they’ve learned from the bees and the dirt.

The Pixie of IX is a drawing from my Woolbeast project, and it was done as I absorbed the lessons and conversations and thoughts from Illuxcon 2022. It was completed in the hotel lobby of the Reading Doubletree over the course of three days.

Blissfully unaware you’d already lost and confident in an easy win you keep your eyes on the forest floor, entirely certain your guest was just some average moronic troll who’d soon enough come bumbling along like a woolbeast to the cullhive.

And there it is, the telltale sound of an arrival.

It would be unfair of you to wait in ambush directly at the arrival point, you have to give your target at least some change after all and so you’d positioned yourself in the trees by a bend in the stream, your tail coiled around a branch to secure yourself as you press yourself flat against the bark, the green of your scales blending with the foliage.

Unaware the abundant wildlife had become a swarm of surveillance drones you wait and watch, ears perked for any sound of an approach though you can’t resist sending off a message to your ‘guest’.

The funniest thing about reading Pern chronologically, knowing that the fantasy angle was written before the scifi angled prequels is that it's canon that the Harpers have worked for thousands of years to preserve the language and prevent lingual drift and drastic accents born of isolation

And yet that means this society collectively, maybe consciously, stopped using the common names for the terran animals the settlers brought to Pern. Runnerbeasts, burdenbeasts, herdbeasts ... It's a fucking horse.
