I wanted to share this photo as a comment on the tragic deaths of the 9 people/youths that died over the weekend at Astroworld. It felt like a kick in our music families gut. In 1999, at the first @Coachella @rageagainstthemachine were about to play and the crowd was getting pumped and pretty crazy. #woodstock99 had just happened where things got out of control so the promoters of Coachella really took that knowledge as a sign to be prepared and not let things get heated and aggressive. There were piles of plastic bottles burning in the field. I was in the photo pit with the usual suspects when security saw the barricade might break and they kicked us out and so I ended up on stage shooting Next to @alexhaagen4 .. I remember we sat together shooting this show. It was off the charts awesome! But the thing I wanted to share was how nothing happened! Goldenvoice were really aware and so concerned about the kids safety they were able to dampen the flames before things got out of control and it turned out to be intense as hell but Totally great! killer, fierce but FUN! This is not a slight on anyone’s tragedy because I wasn’t there. Just mentioning how I felt taken care of even in the early days of This awesome festival. #piperfergusonphotography Sending prayers to all the families of the lives lost over the weekend 😢 💔 https://www.instagram.com/p/CWJ_mNPpQFv/?utm_medium=tumblr
