its definitely my nostalgia talking and not an actual critique but camp half blood looks so much more beautiful and otherworldly than i imagined. like ik its meant 2 look ethereal its a camp for demigods but idk. i always pictured it being more old and homey and messy. the stained glass windows and huge buildings make it super intimidating
#i think intimidating was the way to go though. i really felt percys feelings of not knowing where he fit#bc everything is so grand#i definitely pictured it more . triangle y horse camp . wooden cabins and picnic tables instead of stone and stained glass#but that is literally jsut my idea of comfort so idk what this post is for

Choosing the Best Wood for Outdoor Bench Seats: A Guide to Longevity and Style
Hello Everyone! When it comes to replacing the wooden slats on your outdoor bench seats, choosing the right type of wood is crucial as the durability, aesthetics, and overall performance matter a lot. The local lumber shop that is offering you with poplar, maple, and oak presents you with some excellent options. But before choosing the best one, you should know about each kind of wood.
Let's break down each option:
1. Poplar: Poplar is a relatively affordable option and is known for its straight grain and easy workability. However, it may not be the best choice for outdoor use as it is less durable compared to maple and oak. While it can withstand some outdoor exposure, it may not hold up well against the elements over time.
2. Maple: Maple is a hardwood that offers excellent strength and durability, making it a suitable choice for outdoor bench seats. Its tight grain pattern provides stability and resistance to warping or splitting, ensuring your bench remains sturdy and attractive for years to come. Additionally, maple has a natural resistance to decay, further enhancing its suitability for outdoor use.
3. Oak: Oak is renowned for its strength and durability, making it an ideal choice for outdoor furniture like bench seats. It can withstand exposure to the elements, including moisture and sunlight, without compromising its structural integrity. Oak's attractive grain pattern adds to the aesthetic appeal of your bench, giving it a timeless look.
Considering these factors, maple and oak emerge as the top contenders for replacing the wooden seat slats on your outdoor bench. While poplar may be a more budget-friendly option, its lower durability and susceptibility to weathering may result in frequent replacements, ultimately costing you more in the long run.
So, when you're ready to upgrade your bench seats, head to your local lumber shop and opt for maple or oak â the benchmarks of durability and beauty in outdoor furniture. Your bench seats will thank you for the upgrade, providing comfort and style for countless seasons ahead.
But if you're in the market for new bench seats altogether, why not explore the exquisite selection at TK Tables at www. tktables. com. au? From classic designs to modern marvels, TK Tables offers bench seats that elevate any outdoor space. Don't wait â upgrade your outdoor oasis today!

how to help palestine ~ dividers by @cafekitsune
You never expected to contact Eddie Munson for your drug needs.Â
When your dealer skips town because of suspicion of drug smuggling over state lines, you call up your former best friendâs ex boyfriend to give you your usual. 4 grams to last you through your stressful work week and to make sure your tolerance does not drastically fall to the lowest of lows.Â
You had not been in school for two years and you knew that Eddie had successfully dropped out the year prior. After a chaotic last year, he was basically a recluse, only dealing to his usual clients. Luckily, you were still friends with Gareth, who in turn, put you in contact with Eddie again.Â
After a humiliating senior year, you had practically become a recluse as well. You found a job at the Sheriffâs office where you sat at a desk all day and filed paper work, hardly talking to anyone. You would go back to your parentâs house and smoke weed until the sun set and then you would do it all over again.Â
You hated this stupid life you fell into since you neglected to go to college, so you numbed the anxieties with marijuana.Â
Thatâs where Eddie comes in.Â
You meet him by Loverâs Lake. A picnic table that you used to sit at as a small child and play in the lake with your cousins and friends. The air is crisp, the leaves falling all around you. He pulls up in his rickety old van and stumbles out with his usual smirk.Â
âFancy seeinâ you here,â He practically giggles as he settles across from you at the table. He was the same Eddie you remembered from senior year. His hair is a bit longer, but still cut in the same way. Long frizzy curls with long bangs across his forehead. His style is the same, as well. Ripped black jeans and random torn up metal band t-shirt. The rings were a bit excessive now, but the silver jewelry matched the chain on his pants. He was coordinated at the very least. âHey, Munson,â You smirk, finally relaxing your shoulders. âBeen awhile.â âYeah, last I saw you was the night Lori dumped my ass,â He says it so blase, not really noting your tonal shift, âGood times.â Your heart sinks hearing your former best friendâs name fall from his lips. You glance down at the carvings on the wooden table, trying to disguise your disgust. He notices your demeanor shift. âSorry, didnât mean to bring her up. Gareth told me about-â You donât want to hear it. You donât want to hear about how she fucked up your life, your plans, your former relationship, anything. Rehashing it led nowhere for you. You put your hand in the air, signaling him to stop speaking. âShe fucked my boyfriend, yep,â You state bluntly, finally glancing up at him. âYouâre selling me weed, right?â
Eddieâs eyes widen at your rush to change the subject, instantly going back to the reason he was actually sitting in front of you. As much as he wanted to chat with his long time secret crush, he knew that you were only here for one thing. He could tell the personal topic was not on the table.Â
âRight, this is not therapy,â He practically whispers to himself. He pulls out a baggie of weed, more than 4 grams for sure. âGot this much. How much do you want?â
You scope out the baggie. The bud looked good, the same color as the last stuff you used to get from the random guy down the street from you. Itâs not that you did not trust Eddie, you just were hesitant towards most guys in Hawkins. You had been screwed so many times. âI usually got 4 grams from my last dealer.â He nods, pulling open the bag and pulling out a couple pieces of the bud. He seems to be just eyeballing, which worries you. You know how much 4 grams looks like, so you watch him with a careful eye. âYou know how much that is?â âYes, I can usually eyeball it. Donât you worry, sweetheart.â The nickname sends butterflies shooting through your tummy. You look up from his fingers, up to his neck, where you spot a couple hickies. You smirk, shaking your head at the idea Eddieâs getting girls. It was such a shift from his early high school days, when you knew him. Back then, he was such a nervous loser that he could hardly land your friend. You always thought she dated him because she pitied him. You had no clue he was only acting like that because he secretly wanted you, not her.Â
You watch him put the distributed bud in a baggie for you. âIâll do $8 per gram, for you. Dealerâs discount.â
You raise your eyebrows, looking at the overstuffed bag. â$32?â
He looks up at you, a goofy smile on his face. âSheâs a math whiz, how cute.â
If your eyes could roll out of your head, they would in that moment. He was always snarky. You enjoyed it though. You always loved bickering with him because it would usually end with you two in a fit of giggles. He never took you seriously, and you vice versa. You pull your wallet out of your black leather purse and pull out two twenty dollar bills. âHereâs $40.â
He hands you the baggie as you hand him the cash. You hand pulls away a bit, but his lingers on the bag, keeping your hand close to his. The action is dragged out, a bit too long for comfort. You glance at him, noticing his dropping smile.Â
âYou havenât changed a bit.â You do not know if itâs a jab or a compliment. You tilt your head at him, trying to see if his face changes at all at your discontent. But he still has a half-smirk painted across his stupidly cute face. You yank your hand away with the plastic bag, slamming it on the wooden tabletop. âGod, I hope I have. I used to be flat chested and annoying.â He throws his head back in laughter, enjoying the slight fun you poke at yourself. You never noticed how loud and booming his laugh is until you two are outside, alone in the quiet woods. âStill funny,â He chuckles, shutting his metal lunch box of goodies, âNever annoying.â You bite your lip, trying to refrain from entertaining the conversation further, but you cannot help yourself. âBut still flat chested?â
More giggles, this time more toned down, due to the fact that heâs now looking down at your chest. âJuryâs out on that one.â
You smile, trying not to let on that you are actually enjoying this interaction even when it started off a bit rocky. You tuck your baggie of weed into your purse, making sure itâs buried underneath all your random necessities. You look back at him and heâs still eyeing you with a cocky grin.Â
âWell, it was nice doinâ business with you, Munson. Do you mind if I,â You lick your lips, contemplating if you should refrain the question. You stick to your original formulated word vomit, âcall you again if I need a reup?â His eyes twinkle at the idea of you calling him. âSure thing. As long as I get to call you if Iâm in need of some conversation.â
Your eyebrows shoot up, completely taken aback from his up front suggestion. You did not mind the idea of talking to him more. Frankly, you needed a friend that was not your high school aged sister. You hadnât been successful making any new friends. This was your way to do so.Â
âIâll talk to you tonight, then?â His smirk drifts, âSure thing, sweetheart.â
-
You are smoking a bowl when your landline in your phone starts ringing loudly. You haphazardly stand up and rush to it, picking it up in 5 seconds flat.Â
âHello?â When he clears his throat, you know who it is immediately. âEveninâ, princess.â
You smirk, letting some of the smoke out of your lungs. âWhoâs this?â
You can imagine the grin plastered across his face as he responds. He had a very good smile.Â
âThe boogeyman.â You play into the antics. You do not know any better, âEddie Munson! What are you doinâ callinâ me at this hour?â
âJust callinâ to see if you smoked the stuff yet?â
You breathe out and inhale to clear your lungs before you start coughing directly in his ear.
âSure am, right this very second.â
His dry chuckle sends shockwaves through your body. âIs it good enough for you?â You wrap your phoneâs cord around your finger as you start pacing your bedroom. You used to do this type of thing when you were on the phone with a boy you liked as a teen. Was this not the same thing?
âSo far, so good. I will report back if thereâs anything awry.â
Heâs quiet for a moment which makes your stomach a bit uneasy. âWell⌠Iâm about to start lighting up myself, you mind keeping me company?â
-
Eddie calls you every time he smokes. For four days straight.Â
You two talk about everything. The way you hated your job. The way he hates living with his uncle still. You both vent your frustrations about the state of the world while smoking a bong or a bowl, giggling from time to time when one of you chokes on the smoke. It was usually always him.Â
By day four, you were on your last pack in your bowl that morning. You smoked before work, hoping the bloodshot eyes would not raise any eyebrows.Â
When Eddie calls that night and you are not smoking with him, he gets worried. âTaking a break, sweetheart?â âI smoked my last bit this morning.â The confession rattles him. You told him before that you would let him know when you needed more. He feels like heâs neglected your needs. And Eddie hates feeling like a failure, especially for you.Â
âDo you need me to drop by with more?âÂ
You have not had a boy in your room since your stupid cheating ex. The idea of having Eddie coming over makes your stomach twist. And while you were a grown woman and graduated, you still lived with your parents. Having him in your childhood bedroom felt childish, embarrassing. You glance around your room, thinking of all the judgments he would pass looking at the posters on your wall.Â
But this was Eddie. The nerd, Dungeons and Dragons playing, drug dealing, metal head.Â
Your Rob Lowe poster would be the last of his concerns, you think.
âDo you even remember where I live?â Was the dumbest question to follow up with, but itâs the one you chose to go with.Â
âYeah, right off Sanders. I drove you home when I first got my car, remember? You and Lori-â You cut him off, already jogging your own memory. You did not need to think about her again. âRight! Yeah⌠if you want to stop by and⌠hang out, I could use a reup. My p-parents arenât home tonight.â
Heâs silent on the other end for a brief beat. âAre you inviting me over for a sleepover? Should I bring my jammies, princess?â
He was always such a sarcastic asshole. But you could not help but laugh. âYeah, bring yourself your own pillow and blanket, too. Donât want you laying on mine.â âSo we arenât sharing your bed?â
You groan, acting annoyed with his comments and questions. âJust get your ass over here, Munson.â âIâll be there in 10.â
-
Heâs sat across the room in your giant red bean bag chair. He seems so at ease out of his usual environment. You watch him use the wooden stool you have had since you were a child as a way to prep his bong for you to hit it.Â
You sit on the edge of your bed, your hands wedged between your legs nervously. He finally looks up at you, noting your odd positioning. âYou good, sweetheart?â
You shake your head back and forth, âIâm good. Just⌠need to smoke.â
He gestures out a black lighter for you, bowing his head. âCome hither.â
You stand up, grabbing the lighter and sitting criss cross in front of the stool where he has set up shop. The glassware looks surprisingly clean. You pick it up slowly, not wanting to mess up the pack or drop it due to your nerves. Eddie watches you, his eyebrows furrowed a bit.Â
âYouâre psyching me out.â He mutters, dusting his bangs away from his forehead a bit. Before he set up, you made sure to open your window right above him so the smoke would escape and not stink up your entire house. Your parents did not care all that much, but you did it out of respect. You did not need to rock the boat.Â
âSorry,â You bring the mouthpiece up to your lips, holding the neck. You had made the mistake of holding the base before and burnt the fuck out of yourself. You light the bowl piece, burning the weed as you suck in. When it bubbles enough, you pick up the piece to inhale. Once the smoke hits your throat and lungs, you try to not cough. But the burn hurts and you let loose. You put the bong down on the stool, lurching forward to cough until your lungs could recoup.Â
âJesus, princess. Never heard you cough so much,â He grabs the bong, inhaling the remaining smoke from your hit. You try not to laugh, mostly due to the fact that your throat feels like itâs on fire. âI donât use bongs.â
He giggles at that before he puts the mouthpiece up to his lips and finishes off the bowl.Â
He makes it look so easy, his Adam's apple bobbing as he inhales and slowly exhales the smoke. Once he does the one hit, he sits back in the bean bag, making a loud swoosh sound.Â
âThatâs gonna get me high quick, damn,â You say, already feeling the lightness behind your eyes. Your high usually started in your head, moving slowly down to your limbs, all the way to the tips of your fingers and toes. You were also always sporting bloodshot eyes and cottonmouth. Eddie grins as he relaxes into the chair. âWe can smoke some more if need be. I have prerolls, too.â You walk to the opposite side of the room, pulling on the other random bean bag that you have stored in your room. You are almost positive this is the one your sister tore a hole in, but you needed something to sit on. You prop it right next to Eddie and the stool, settling in and staring at the ceiling.
âWhat do you do after you smoke?â You pose, trying to start light conversation so you did not spiral in front of him. You were not used to smoking with another person, so you had some unnecessary nerves. âYou want honesty?â His voice breaks a bit before he clears his throat. As he says this, you realize the room is uncharacteristically quiet. To hide further conversation, you stand up and head to your record player. The resting record on the turntable is Fleetwood Mac, so that would just have to do. You turn it on, resting the needle on the edge of the record. The music flows through the room as you turn your head towards him. He has this shit-eating grin that could only hint that he does something mischievous or inappropriate.
âYeah, go on.â
He first acts like he is thinking for a moment, but he knows his exact next words. They are on the very tip of his tongue, but he just wants to see if you pester him forward. The cat and mouse game seemed to be you twoâs specialty at this point. He clears his throat, âI usually just jerk off.â You give him a disdainful glance, trying not to feel the knots tying themselves in the base of your stomach. âYouâre gross.â âYou asked!â You move the chair closer to him as you sit and lay back, âAnd hey, thatâs not gross. Everyone does it.â You snort, turning your nose away from him. âYou could have lied.â âWhatâs the fun in lying? I donât lie to my friends.â
You would be lying if you said you did not like to hear that he considers you a friend. But teasing Eddie was your favorite hobby. âOh, so we are friends?â
He shrugs, his face a bit twisted. âIâd like to think so.â
âOh, okay.â
It is such a bland comment, you can tell he is squirming in his chair. He leans forward, pulling a baggie out of his pocket. You watch him place three pre rolls on the stool next to the bong.Â
âWhat, you think Iâm a freak like everyone else does?â As he says it, you watch him put a pre roll between his lips and fumble with the lighter, âItâs the hair, isnât it?â
Eddieâs reputation was a pivotal part of why you liked him more than everyone else at school. He liked what he liked and did not bend to anyoneâs rules. He liked Dungeons and Dragons and the darker undertones of it. He dressed in all black and enjoyed the heavy metal. He was born and bred to be an outcast.Â
And you loved it.Â
You had to hide a good part of yourself from the outside world because your Bible Belt town would reprimand you if you dressed how you actually wanted to. You would have been ostracized by your friends you had known your whole life.Â
So you put on the stupid act of being normal and wore what was in fashion. You only liked the things you did in private.Â
âPeople think you are weird because of that Satanic shit they think you believe in,â You state, watching him take a drag from the joint. You pay attention to one of his rings specifically. A silver pig head, wrapped around his left middle finger. When your eyes flicker back to his, he takes note of you staring at his hands. âOh, so you donât think Iâm a crazy satanist that deals drugs and is starting a blood drinking cult?â âIf you were, I think we would have been way closer friends.â
The way you say it so matter-of-factly piques Eddieâs interest. He knew all along you were different. Thatâs why he liked you so much. Why he chose to mess around your best friend instead is forever a mystery. But he had now to make up for it. âOh, so youâd be in my cult, that Iâm actually starting?â He rasps, offering you the joint. You gladly accept it, bringing it to your lips before you respond.Â
âFor sure,â You exhale some smoke, eyes roaming all over his face. âWhat does this cult entail?â
He leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees. His face is inches from yours and he tones down his voice, like you two are passing secrets. You extend the joint back to him, letting his fingertips grace yours as he grabs it. âBunch of outcast freaks that wear robes and do insane rituals.â You scoff, thinking out the hypotheticals of this cult, âHuman sacrifice, type shit?â
âNo cult has ever been successful without some human sacrifice, princess,â His grin grows across his face as he scans you up and down. âSo, are you in?â
The weed only makes you bolder, bringing your body even closer, âSounds like a great time to me.â
âOh, it will be. You, me, some fuckinâ weirdos I find off the streets. Maybe you can be my right-hand woman. May need someone else to keep them all in check.â
His head shifts to look between your eyes and lips. It makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. âYou not capable of doinâ that all by yourself?â
âMaybe,â He drags out the last syllable, ticking his tongue, âJust thought youâd wanna help is all.â
The thought sends shivers down your spine. But you try to act like his words have no effect on you, so you swallow shallowly and glance away. You want to say something that will drive him crazy, just to get one up on him. âI mean⌠I guess. As long as I get paid with a mass amount of drugs and ritualistic sex.â The last part of the sentence has him in a tizzy.
âOh, thatâs a given. Youâll be set for life.â
You clear your throat, the taste of weed reentering your mouth, âIâm hoping you have some good ideas for these rituals. Iâm pretty useless.â
But you had plenty of ideas for him. And while you were truly into Eddie, you do not know if you would ever be bold enough to share those ideas out loud. You have read plenty of books, seen enough films, but you could never just outwardly say such obscene things to another person. Eddieâs lips quirk up, âIâve got plenty of ideas, baby.â
The boldness he shows you gives you a rise. Your heart starts to beat fast, and before you can even really debate your next words, they spill out of your mouth.
âEnlighten me, leader.â
Eddieâs demeanor shifts completely. His brown eyes grow darker as he leans forward towards you, placing his large hand on your thigh. The touch sends goosebumps throughout your entire body, all the way up to your neck. His smirk changes into a mischievous grin.
âEnlighten you? You want me to show you all the things that are rattling around in my brain, sweetheart?â
The song stops and thereâs a stillness that fills the room. The tension is thick like the marijuana smoke that radiates around your bedroomâs four walls. You place your hand delicately on top of Eddieâs.Â
âPlease.â You rasp, your eyes flickering all around his face. His nose, his slightly ajar lips, his doe eyes that show lust instead of innocence.
His hand slips behind the nape of your neck, pulling you closer and closer. Instead of meeting in the middle, you jump the gun pressing yourself closer and closing the gap. You could not stop yourself, you had to feel him against you. When your lips press against him, the sound from your throat brings him to be urgent with his movements.
When his tongue lips past your lips, you start to realize how dry your mouth really was. You always experienced cottonmouth, but with the way you were practically drooling for Eddieâs attention, you are surprised to offer your mouth and tongue to him and find them sticking to the roof of your mouth.Â
You pull away, your hand still on his, squeezing it reassuringly, âMy mouth is-â âI donât care,â And heâs pulling you back into his lips. He could not care less if your mouth was dry or if your hair is sticking up weird because of where his hand is placed. He just needed to feel you against him. And you wanted the same.
His hands wrap around your waist, pulling you across his lap. With the new position, you rest your hips on top of him and cradle his jaw with your hands. The kiss turns into him just giving you all of the saliva in his mouth, which you gladly take. His lips move at a perfect drawn-out pace. His hand adds more encouragement to your frenching, traveling all around your sides and hips. You retreat, pulling back for some air.
His eyes never leave yours as you settle onto his thighs as you catch your breath, your shorts riding up to your hips as you slide across him.Â
âTell me if Iâm misinterpreting signs, sweetheart.â
You shake your head ânoâ, your arms slowly moving up from his chest to his shoulders. âNothing to misinterpret, Munson.â
He gives you a smug grin, leaning his back further into the chair. His eyes trace down the curvature of your body, admiring you mounting his lap.Â
âDo you need some water? Sorry, I just⌠you stopped kissing me so suddenly-â You shake your head, cutting him off. âRight above you on the windowsillâŚthat water bottle. Just give me that.â
He steadies you on his lap by resting a firm grip on your waist as he extends his body upward to grab the plastic water bottle. While he shifts, you can feel his hardness against your thighs. Your lips purse in a half grin.
He grabs it, opens it for you, and gestures for you to lean your head back. âI can do it myself, dear,â You retort, trying to reach out for the bottle. He pulls it away, chuckling slyly to himself. âLet me do it.â It is the stupid banter like this that is making you fall so hard for him. Whether itâs the two of you on the phone, or hanging out in person, he always found a way to tease you or pick at you.Â
You lean your head back slightly as he pours the perfect amount in your mouth. You swish it around, already feeling a lot better. The dryness will probably come back, but at least you had your own personal water fountain to supply you with more. You watch him screw the cap back on and put it next to him on the floor. His other hand returns to your waist, his touch lowering a bit more to your ass.
âSo⌠you like this, right?â The question is so dumb and forward, you have to give him credit. For crying out loud, you are mounting his lap and wildly making out with him. You cannot help but laugh. âYeah, dumbass.â
âOkay, good. I like this, tooâŚâ
âSoâŚIs this just the sneak preview?â You jab, thinking back to the conversation you two were just having about starting a cult. You are slightly hinting that you would like more, but you do not know how to word it without sounding desperate.
Eddie is so in his own head, he looks at you confused. âWhat?â
âThe ritualistic sex or whatever.â
He lifts you up swiftly, his palms raising you up by your asscheeks. You yelp, holding onto him for dear life. He chuckles as he walks you about 7 steps towards your bed. When he drops you, your arms flail backward to catch yourself landing with a bounce. He does not give you any time to recover, his hands running up the sides of your body, while his hips align with yours. His face breaks into something more mischievous. âNah, this is just something Iâve wanted to do to you for a long time. The ritualistic sex will involve way more blood.â
You lace your hands around his neck, pulling his face closer to your lips. You completely disregard the blood comment. That is a conversation for another time. âYouâve wanted to do this for a while?â âLonger than I care to admit.â He captures your lips in another bruising kiss, his hand leaving your hip to cup your face. You eagerly offer your newly wet tongue to his accepting mouth. You are kissing each other like you are trying to suck the life out of him. You both tasted like weed which only added to the intoxication of the exchange.Â
Your hands were roaming every part of his upper chest, your hand wrapping so perfectly around his neck and jaw. When he tilts your head back with his thumb to push your face upward so he can access your neck, you release him. He tuts, kissing your neck, âYou wanna have your hands around my throat, baby?â
You can feel the wetness rush out of you, soaking your panties at the huskiness of his voice. âIf youâre into that.â
He can feel his smile against you, lifting his face up to meet your eyes.Â
âVery into that.â
The disposal of clothes happens in rapid succession. You watch him plop down in his boxers, while you have already removed your underwear. His eyes fly open at the realization that you are laying it all out there immediately. You are too high to give a fuck, watching his eyes scan you as you undo your bra in the back.Â
âAre you fucking with your underwear on?â He swallows, his adamâs apple bobbing at the question. âUh, no. I justâŚâ You lower yourself in front of him, feigning innocence as you rub his bare thighs. The tent in his boxers is fully apparent, waiting for you to take it in your hands. âYou what? You want me to take them off for you?â His cocky smirk returns in full force. âIf youâre into that.â
You notice his teasing tone, repeating your previous statement from moments before. You pull at the waistband of his boxers as he shifts himself so you can release him out of his confides. âVery into that.â
When his cock springs free, you practically gasp. The surprise on your face is all apparent and Eddie loves it. He looks at you through hooded lids, enjoying the sight of you taking him in your hands. You wrap around him so perfectly, jerking him off with slow methodical movements. You tilt forward, pressing your wet lips to his shaft. His lips form into an âoâ as you wrap your lips around his dick, taking him gradually into your mouth. He cannot stop staring at your actions. You are quick to switch it up on him when he gets too quiet for your comfort. You speed up your movements, the saliva you are finally making, starts dripping around his cock as you take him further into your throat.Â
He slides so easily into your mouth, your high brain keeps thinking âGod, heâs made for meâ. It sounds so insane and a bit delusional, but you loved hearing him whimper as you continued to slurp up and down on his cock. âOh my god, youâre so fuckinâ good at that,â His voice is dripping with lust, âYou keep goinâ and Iâm cumming in that mouth.â You do one last slow up and down on him, releasing him from your mouth. âNeed you inside me before you cum.â
You give him one last long, lingering lick up his shaft before pressing a tender kiss on the tip. He rolls his eyes back, his lips twisted up in a smile. âDirty girl.â You stand up on your heels, stepping forward and mounting his lap again. His hands settle on your sides immediately, dragging you closer to him as you side further towards his knees. âYou want a condom?â His dilated pupils cannot look away from your core hovering so close to his spit covered cock. âDo we need one?â You tilt his head up with your fingers. âYou safe?â âAlways.â âGood, then. I take a pill every morning. So unless youâre weird about fuckinâ raw-â He shakes his head, pressing his lips into yours to quiet your ramblings. You return the kiss, moaning into him as you draw your cunt closer to his erection. When you nudge him, he hisses.
âFuck me how you want, princess.â
You give him a smug expression, lifting yourself up on your knees and reaching between your own legs. You feel for his cockhead, tilting it towards where your entrance is. You lower yourself slowly, eyes catching Eddieâs as he looks up at you. He looks so hot in this light, his jaw clenched, his gaze burning through you, his hair swept back over his shoulders. When his tip graces your core, you practically squeeze him without any penetration.
Once heâs right where you need him, you sink all the way down. The moans you both let out in unison is like music to your ears. You can practically hear your heartbeat in your ears as you lift up again and slam down, his watchful eye observing your actions. When you realize the intrusion will not hurt if you speed up, you push him onto his back.Â
He grabs one of your pillows from the top of the bed, his wingspan somehow long enough to do such things. You enjoy watching him prop his head up to observe you, a devious smile on his face. He keeps his hands under his head, like heâs just enjoying the show. You settle your one hand on his stomach, the other on his chest, right below a tattoo of what appears to be a demon head.Â
âYour tattoos are so random,â You babble, spreading your fingers over the art.
He tilts his head, still just appreciating the way your tits sit over him. âYou are not very good at dirty talk, sweetheart.â
You grimace at his comment, dragging your hips forward which allows your clit some stimulation while heâs inside you. âMy apologies. Iâll stick to the normal buzzer words.â
He rolls his eyes initially but once you raise your hips up to bounce on him, he forces his eyes closed.Â
You grin, your hands resting a bit further up his chest, slowly creeping your way up to his pretty little neck. His guitar pick necklace is a staple in his appearance, but right now it was just in your way. You continue your movements, finally resting your hand right below his Adamâs apple. He reveals his brown eyes again when you tighten your grip, his expression indicating that he is enjoying you like this.
You are starting to feel weak in your knees as you fuck yourself on him, but you are not a quitter and it feels too good to stop. You balance one hand on his chest, the other one constricting more of his airways. The way he heaves under you sends a shockwave right to your clit. The stimulation is becoming almost too much, but you clench your pelvic muscles, edging yourself.
âOh my god,â You whine, finally returning to just sliding yourself back and forth on his pelvis, âIâm gonna cum, Eddie.â
You release his throat, allowing him to catch his breath. âI can feel you gripping me so good, baby.â
Eddie moves his hands up your legs, clutching onto the sides of your hips first, before massaging the flesh right below your boobs. When they travel to toy with your nipples, you can feel the urgent flood of your orgasm hit the pit of your stomach. You roll your eyes back, lulling your head back as your hips stutter against his. As you jerk your body across him, you can feel his dick twitching inside you. Your vision is a bit clouded as you fix your gaze back on the man below you.Â
You feel his hands roughly grab your hips, practically rag dolling you to the spot next to him. He fixes himself between your legs, slotting his cock back into your cunt. âIâm so close but I need to go at my pace.â
âEddie, Iâm so sensitive,â You mewl, your hands rubbing your eyes to regain some of your normal function back. The endorphins from the sex is intertwining weirdly with the high you already have, which makes your body feel like itâs only a matter of time before you are cumming all over him again.Â
âI know, baby, but I know you got more in you. One more? You think you can do that for your leader?â
You gasp when he grinds himself into you. You cannot even say anything back to the horniest thing he has said all night because the feeling of him fully sheathed inside you again has your head spinning. He starts with a slower pace that only speeds up when you are moaning his name over and over again. You then realize, he will, in fact, have you cumming again.Â
He reaches up under your knee, slotting it right in the bend of his arm. He slowly starts to raise it up in the air to plow into you from a different angle, stretching you further and further to your limit. His hair is starting to stick to his forehead, as he continues to chase his release. He opens you up some more by spreading your leg out more. You watch as he licks his thumb and stares down at your swollen clit. You know what heâs about to do and you may just lose your mind. He slots his finger right on top of your sensitive bud and presses, rubbing methodical circles.Â
âCum, baby, I know you wanna.â
You gasp, letting the orgasm take over every nerve ending in your body. The way you clench down on him sends him into overdrive. His grunts fill the room, while you are silently writhe under him, unable to catch your breath from the explosion of your climax. The feeling of you seizing around his cock makes him drop your leg lazily and drop on top of your naked body.Â
He holds onto you like you are the only thing anchoring him in reality as he fucks his seed deep inside you.Â
Your sweaty bodies lace around each other as you both regain your composure. His weight is pressing you deeply into the mattress, so you languidly pat his shoulder.Â
âSquishing me, Munson.â
He presses up into a push up to look at you, his hair falling over your face. âSorry, sweetheart.â
He rolls onto his side, his half hard cock slipping out of your pussy, dragging some of his cum out with it. You can feel him dripping out of you, which is an absolutely surreal experience. He settles beside you, still huffing a bit. âWell⌠That wasâŚâ
You did not really have the right adjective to explain your feelings about the entire ordeal. You were definitely satisfied. More than you ever had been before.Â
Eddie smacks his lips, pushing some hair away from his eyes. âIncomparable. On my part, at least.â
You sneer, trying your best to clear out the rasp you feel in your throat. Your mouth is starting to feel dry all over again. You think for a moment, wondering if you should give in and share that it was the best sex you have ever had or just act nonchalant.Â
âYeah, definitely something,â You remark dryly. You wanted banter with him, it was only fitting after such sacrilege.
He looks at you with a half-grin, his eyes scanning down your body for a beat. When he gets to your chest, he just stares at your tits while he speaks.Â
âNot annoying. And not flat-chested. Just perfect,â He taunts, reaching out to tweak one of your nipples, âI was right, you were wrong.â
He always has to one up you. You lean forward, resting your palm on your bed as you get in his sphere. âIâm not joining your cult. You are too cocky and I think you will get too power hungry.â
His finger still toys with your chest as you speak, the words just sliding right off his shoulders.Â
âPower hungry? No, no, no,â He places his hand right in the center of your chest, the coldness of his rings sending shockwaves up your arms, âThe only thing Iâm ever gonna be hungry for is you, my dear.â
You shake your head, propping yourself on your elbow as you stare down at him. âApparently you have been for a while⌠According to what you said earlier.â
That comment tickles him. He finally chuckles, leaning up so heâs millimeters from your lips.Â
âGuilty as charged.â
His mouth presses back onto yours, tongue and all. It finally brings back some moisture back into your mouth. Maybe you didnât need the damn water bottle. Maybe you just needed him to keep kissing you.

One thing that sucks about fighting monsters from some weirdly dusty and gooey parallel universe to your own⌠is going back to school. Specifically going back after telling all your friends that theyâre actually trust fund assholes and your girlfriend - ex-girlfriend - ends up with the one guy she swore up and down was just a friend.
Not that Steve really blames Nancy for that. Jonathanâs a good dude. Plus, itâs not like Steve was the perfect boyfriend or anything. He tried, but maybe it just wasnât enough.
Maybe itâll never be enough.
Steve takes a sudden right, making a detour from all the student rushing into the lunchroom in favor of being anywhere but there. He barely registers walking out of the school until he notices the woods in front of him. Why does everything always lead him back to here?
He doesnât know why, maybe itâs what Dustin call his âmother henâ instinct, but Steve continues walking into the woods, wondering if maybe there are more monsters lurking about that he can spot early this time. God knows he would do anything for those kids - not that he would tell them that. Dustin especially does not need the ego boost.
So Steve wanders, listening closely for any unusual noise.
And then he hears one.
Itâs just the thud of something metal sounding against maybe⌠a tree? Something solid. Then a crunch of leaves. AndâŚ
Singing?
Steve slowly peaks around a tree and finds the source of all the noise.
Eddie Munson.
Steve nearly rolls his eyes but finds himself fondly watching the boy as he drums on a wooden picnic table singing some song Steve has never heard. Itâs when Eddie does some type of ridiculously uncoordinated twirl that Steve ends up snorting. Itâs loud enough that Eddie ends up hearing it, startling mid turn and head bang that has him misstepping and landing right on his ass.
Steve tries to let some sheepishness bleed through the amusement in his expression. âYou okay, man?â He asks, stepping forward to offer him a hand.
Eddie eyes it wearily. âDepends. What are you doing out here?â
âJustâŚâ Steve stares at Eddie for a moment, trying to find a normal answer, but instead he shrugs and sighs, âI donât know, man.â He takes another step closer and pointedly looks down at his offered hand.
Eddie narrows his eyes at him before taking it carefully. Steve is caught off guard by the cold metal rings but hauls Eddie up easily who wobbles when he gets to his feet. âThanks,â Eddie breathes out, lingering in Steveâs space.
Steve just nods and wonders if Eddie Munsonâs eyes have always been so big and brown.
âSo, Steve Harrington,â Eddie starts, drawling out his name while taking a step back and brushing dirt off his pants, âTo what do I owe the pleasure?â
Steve raises an eyebrow.
Eddie marches over to the picnic table and gestures dramatically at his lunch box. âIâm assuming youâre here for the goods?â
âThe what?â
âDrugs, Harrington. Are you alright?â Eddie asks with a tilt of his head leaning forward as if assessing him.
Steve shrugs. âFine. And no. Iâm not here for your drugs which you evidently keep in your lunch box for any teacher to find.â Eddieâs brows furrow. Steve rolls his eyes. âI know you sell, but Tommy usually does this part.â
âI know,â Eddie replies as he hops up on the bench and crosses his arms. He faces Steve and bends at the waist - Steve ignores the urge to reach out and steady him so he doesnât fall again. âSo what are you doing out here? Are you here to⌠beat me up?â Eddie asks dramatically, hopping onto the table and pretending to brandish a sword.
Steve simply raises his eyebrows and crosses his arms.
Eddieâs arms drop. âOkay. Surprising but I guess you wouldâve already taken a swing if you wanted a fight.â He squats down on the table until heâs eye level with Steve. âYouâre not here because of the rumors, right?â Eddie asks, dropping his voice and appearing weirdly serious.
As for the rumors, Steveâs sure heâs heard more than he can count - including one about Munson being a vampire - so heâs not sure what heâs talking about. Heâs also not sure if he wants to know which rumors heâs talking about. Steve runs a hand through his hair and settles his hands on his hips. âI just needed to clear my head. I didnât know you were out here.â
Eddie squints at him. âYouâre clearing your head by taking a walk in the woods?â
âYes.â
They hold eye contacts for a few moments, and Steve canât really tell what theyâre silently sizing each other up about. Eddie reluctantly stands up and jumps off the table. âFine. What are you clearing your head about?â
Steve stares at him.
âWhat?â
âWhy do you want to know?â
Eddie steps closer to him and obnoxiously twirls a piece of hair around his finger. âBecause youâre Steve Harrington, and I must be the luckiest guy in all of Hawkins since Iâve got you here alone with me.â
Steve laughs loudly and gently shoves Eddie away. âShut up.â
Eddieâs cheeks flush pink, and Steve can almost see him biting back the words âmake me.â Then heâs reminded of the rumor that Eddie bats for the other team, and Steve suddenly wonders if itâs true - not that he would mind.
Steve pushes the thought away as Eddie smiles sincerely and pushes some hair in front of his face. âMaybe I wouldnât mind the company. Plus,â he turns and sprawls back on the picnic bench, âYou can tell me anything. Iâm great at keeping secrets, and even if I wasnât, it would be your word against mine.â
Steve considers what heâs said before asking, âAnd how crazy of a secret would you not only keep but believe?â
Eddie smiles almost manically. âTry me.â
Steve looks around wondering if the government people or whoever they were can hear him out here. Heâs not sure if itâs been long enough to guarantee thereâs not someone keep track of each of them, waiting for them to slip up. He also wonders how cruel it would be to unload all of this onto Eddie. Steve knows life was much simpler before he knew that demogorgans existed.
âIâve been fighting⌠some monsters recently,â Steve settles on, hoping Eddie doesnât take it so literally.
âYeah?â
Steve nods and takes a step closer to where Eddie is sitting, gesturing at nothing as he continues, âIt started when I was an asshole to Nance and then she ran off with Jonathan and the rest is history there but⌠they really dragged me into some heavy shit.â
âI can imagine. Itâs not every day that your girlfriend runs off with another guy. Which is a shitty thing to do by the way.â
Steve tries to steer the conversation away from his failed relationship without setting off Eddieâs alarm bells. âItâs not that I really blame them. I mean youâve seen them, everyone has, theyâre kind of made for each other. Who am I to get in the way of that? Especially since I was a shitty boyfriend. But thatâs not the point. Before Nance left, I was pulled into helping someâŚâ he pauses, trying to think of a way to talk about the kids out of context without sounding like a creep. âWell, there was this guy who needed help and so⌠I helped him and his friends out.â
Eddie fixes him with a carefully blank look. âHelped this guy out⌠how exactly?â
Steve shrugs and sits next to Eddie as he figures out how to phrase things. âHe⌠well. His cat⌠di- escaped! It escaped. And I was helping him find it, and we actually grew pretty close.â
Eddie knocks his knee against Steveâs. âSo⌠you and this guy grew⌠close.â
Steve nods and smiles. âYeah, heâs this dumbass genius k-,â he cuts himself off before he can say kid. âAnyways, then his friends needed help, and I helped them fight⌠their monsters.â
Eddie raises his eyebrows at him. âSo you helped⌠multiple guys⌠fight their⌠monsters?â
Steve nods. âYeah. But thatâs over and now I have to go back here and pretend that none of that ever happened. It just⌠sucks, man.â
Eddie nods. âUh. Yeah. I can imagine pretending for so long is... exhausting.â
âTell me about it,â Steve says with a laugh.
A silence falls between them and Eddie glances over at him. âYou know⌠you donât have to pretend with me.â
Steve smiles and wonders what not pretending means now, but itâs sounds good nonetheless. âYeah, I think Iâd like that.â
Eddie softly smiles and his eyes move down to Steveâs lips slowly. âYeah?â
And oh. Oh. There was definitely a miscommunication somewhere along the way. And⌠okay. Fighting monsters and helping guys fight their monsters is maybe not the best phrasing. But Steve thinks he likes Eddie remaining so blissfully ignorant.
So, Steve kisses him.
And yeah. Maybe there are quite literally hundreds of different ways he couldâve let Eddie remain oblivious to the whole vague Upside Down retelling, but Steve canât really complain when Eddie kisses him back, finding the scrape of stubble against his face surprisingly pleasant.
And Steve finds himself taking his time thoroughly allowing Eddie to believe this story that Steve wishes were true rather than the real thing. Itâs only when Eddieâs watch beeps that they finally pull away for longer than a few seconds.
âShit,â Eddie mumbles, resting his forehead against Steveâs, âTime to head back in.â
âCanât skip?â Steve asks, wondering why heâs trying so hard to solidify his false story.
Eddie sighs and pulls away. âUnfortunately, if I skip anymore, theyâre not going to let me graduate. Although right now I think spending more time with you might be more important than my diploma.â
Steve laughs and feels himself pleasantly flushing. He nudges Eddieâs shoulder with his own before standing up and offering his hand to him again. âCome on. We canât have you not graduating again.â
âAgain? Harrington, are you keeping tabs on me?â
Steve raises his eyebrows at him as Eddie takes his hand and pulls himself off the bench. âAnd what if I am?â He flirts easily.
Eddie smiles giddily and grabs his lunch box. âThen I really must be the luckiest boy in Hawkins.â
Steve doesnât say anything when Eddie doesnât let go of his hand as they walk out of the woods toward the school. Itâs only as the school slowly comes into sight that Eddie drops Steveâs hand and shoves his hands into his pockets. He stops in his tracks and turns to Steve. âHey, thanks for not pretending with me.â
Steve glances at the school before moving in to give Eddie one final kiss. He lingers in it before breaking away to say, âThank you for listening.â
They wordlessly separate as the head back to the building, knowing that even with the few weeks of school left and both of their tarnished reputations that they canât truly risk it all.
As Steve makes it to his class just before the final bell rings, heâs left to wonder if maybe he really does have some other type of monsters to fight. And he really hopes Eddie Munson can be there to help him with those ones again.

Charming
James Potter X Gryffindor reader
Kind of Enemies to start with. Â This one is just a collection of scenes.
Summary: Reader hates James, and James keeps showing up to annoy her.
Warnings: Language, reader loves to flip James off, Lily is not a bad person in this, mentions of injuries,
I once again don't know how to keep things short like is over 8k words so its a long one.
Potter was at it again, bothering Lily that is. Â Which was no surprise at all, his lifeâs purpose was to bother Lily and pull obnoxious pranks. He was perched against the black tabletop, arms crossed, and that stupid charming smirk of his was present. He was spewing out nonsense, about what their first date would look like. Â
âImagine it, Evans,â his tone dripped with mock sincerity. âFireworks across the sky, a romantic broom ride under the stars, andâof courseâa picnic with the finest butterbeer Hogwarts can offer.â
I rolled my eyes so hard it was a wonder they didnât get stuck. Of course, Pottersâ idea of romance would include the most clichĂŠ theatrics. He probably thought he was charming too. Â
Suppressing the urge to gag at his words, I refocused on the simmering potion before me, carefully stirring the thick, bubbling liquid in clockwise motions. The aroma was faintly herbal, with a sharp tang, it was my only indication I was on the right track.
âJames,â Lily said, her voice was sweet but firm like a scolding mother. âI need to help my partner. She canât do all the work alone.â Â
Her words pulled his attention my way for the first time their entire conversation. He turned, and for a fleeting second, something softened in his brown eyes. But his trademark grin returned, and whatever glimmer of humanity Iâd spotted was gone.
âOh, I see. Donât worry, Lily, Iâm sure sheâs perfectly capable of stirring a pot without supervision. Isnât that, right?â His tone was light, but there was a condescending edge that made my grip on the spoon tighten.
I shot him a cold glare before flipping him off without a word.
âCharming,â he quipped, that maddening smirk of his only widening. âarenât you just a little ray of sunshineâ
I was tempted to lob the wooden spoon at his head. InfuriatingâThatâs what Potter was. Every word out of his mouth made me want to throttle him.
Lily let out a heavy sigh, pinching the bridge of her nose. âJames really?â
Muttering the word âassholeâ under my breath, I skirted around him to retrieve a forgotten ingredient from the shelf at the back of the classroom. I glanced back at our table and Lily was smacking him on the arm, hissing something to him. By the time I returned to our workstation, heâd finally slunk back to his seat beside Sirius, whose shoulders were shaking with barely suppressed laughter.
Lily offered me an apologetic smile. âSorry, heâs justâŚJamesâ
âHe is arrogant and full of himself.â I replied, dumping in a measure of powdered moonstone into the cauldron. âI can see why you always tell him to booger off.â
âHe is cute,â She admitted with a small shrug. âBut he has eyes for someone else.â
I almost dropped the spoon. Of all the ridiculous things she could say that had to top them all. Â Everyone in the castle knew Potter was utterly infatuated with her. It was the topic of every whispered bet in the corridors.
âRight.â I muttered in disbelief under my breath.
Before I could say anymore there was a loud hiss and crackle coming from behind us. My head snapped up just in time to see a plume of green smoke erupting out of Potters and Sirusâs cauldron. Whatever they had brewed smelled noxious.
âEveryone, step back!â Professor Slughornâs voice boomed as he waved his wand to contain the smoke. Â
But before I could move, the cauldron gave a final, violent pop. A spray of scalding liquid flew in all directions. I let out a small squeak closing my eyes and bracing for the inevitable burn. Amongst the chaotic noise I swear I heard someone yell out my name.
The pain never came.
A firm grip caught my arm, yanking me back. When I opened my eyes again there was a sizzling green goop right where I was standing. I was met with Potters concerned eyes when I looked up. His signature grin was gone, replaced by an intensity I had never seen before.
âAre you okay?â He asked, voice unusually quiet.
Potter looked me over inspecting for any sort of injury. Both his hands were on my shoulderâs steading my shaking form.
I blinked once, twice, three times, before responding. âUh⌠Yeah.â
His hands lingered on me a moment longer before taking a step back, running a hand through his hair. Sirus behind me was laughing so hard he was nearly in tears.
âJames, mate that was brilliant!â Sirus wheezed, wiping his eyes.
Potter shot him a frosty look. It was an expression I didnât know he could conjure; he was always smiling and carefree.
âBrilliant? You nearly got her killed.â He bit out shoving me behind him.
Sirus froze, his laughter dying. âOh, come on it wasnât that bad.â
But James wasnât listening. He turned his attention back to me, his expression softer. âAre you really, okay?â Â
I nodded mutely, still trying to process what was happening. The boy who annoyed me every waking moment was being⌠Kind to me?
Potter nodded back before walking out of the room. His shoulders tense.
Lily leaned over, whispering, âSee? Heâs not all bad.â
I didnât reply. For once, I was at a loss for words.
The courtyard was peaceful despite the bustling of students crossing through. I sat in a shady patch of grass with an old, but well-loved book.
âFancy seeing you here,â Potterâs voice rang out, breaking my solitude like a shattering glass.
I let out a groan. He had an uncanny knack for ruining perfectly good days. I didnât bother looking up, pretending to focus on the words in front of me.
âWhat do you want, Potter?â I muttered, my tone sharp.
He plopped down on the grass right beside me, stretching out like he owned the place.
âJust enjoying the great outdoors, same as you. Sans the book. I think you read more than Remus.â
I finally looked up; my scowl sharp enough to peel paint. âThereâs an entire courtyard for you to âenjoy.â Go find a different patch of grass.â
âBut this is the best spot,â he said cheerfully, completely ignoring my attempt to banish him. âNice shade, quiet atmosphere, good companyââ
âYouâre impossible,â I cut him off, snapping my book shut. âDo you ever get tired of being... you?â
âNope,â he replied, popping the P. âAnd you donât seem tired of it either.â
I blinked at him, stunned by the audacity. âI literally just told you to leave. What part of that makes you think I like you?â
âYet you havenât left.â He leaned in slightly, the smell of sandalwood and vanilla coming from him. âI think you secretly like having me around.â
Potters eyes were twinkling.
âI think you are delusional,â I countered, but my voice cracked slightly. His smile deepened like heâd caught me in some grand confession. Â
âDelusional, huh? Interesting diagnosis, sunshineâ
My head snaped back to him so fast I nearly got whiplash. âWhat did you- What did you just call me?â
âSunshine.â He repeated, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. âFits, doesnât it?â
He really was delusional.
âNo, it doesnât,â I bit out through gritted teeth. âdonât call me that.â Â
âWhy not? Itâs perfectly you. You are so warm and radiantâ
My hand clenched around the edge of my book, and for a split second, I considered using it as a weapon.
I stared at him in disbelief. My jaw tightening. âI hate you.â Â
âAw, donât be like that, Sunshine.â his smirk now verging on insufferable. âDeep down, I think you actually like me.â
I stood up so fast he flinched slightly.
âListen, Potter. I donât know what twisted game youâre playing, but Iâm not interested. Call me that again, and I swearââ
âWhat? Youâll hex me?â he interrupted, clearly unbothered by any threat I could make. âGo ahead. Iâm dying to see what youâd come up with.â
The nerve of this boy.
Instead of dignifying his challenge with a response, I glared harder before turning on my heel and storming off. Behind me, I could hear his laughter following me like an annoying echo.
âSee you around, Sunshine!â he called after me, his voice ringing with triumph.
I flipped him off without turning around, my blood boiling.
Sunshine? What an absolutely ridiculous, infuriating nickname. And yet, as I stalked back to the castle, I couldnât stop replaying the way heâd said itâlike it was a joke only he understood. Â
I hated him. I really, really hated him.
I had managed to keep the Potter interactions to a minimum. I avoided him by ducking behind statues whenever I caught sight of his messy hair or hiding behind Lily when in class. For a moment, I thought Iâd finally regained my background character peace.
The Sunshine nickname had stuck much to my dismay. Every time he said it in class, I swear my blood pressure spiked.
Which is why, when the libraryâs familiar quiet atmosphere enveloped me one late evening, I let myself relax for the fist time in days. This was my slice of heaven. The dim candlelight and the faint scent of parchment was soothing, a perfect backdrop for tackling the mountain of notes piled before me.
âWell, well if it isnât my favorite ray of sunshine, hiding in the shadows.â Potters voice drawled breaking the silence like a Bludger through a window.
My quill stilled mid-sentence, and I groaned internally.
âDonât you have someone else to bother?â I pursed my lips pretending to think. âLike Lily perhaps?â
Instead of taking the hint, he pulled out the chair in front of me and plopped down. Â This took my attention away from the papers in front of me. Potters grin was so smug it could rival the Cheshire Catâs. How could one person be so obnoxious?
âLilyâs got enough admirers for one day. Besides,â he said, leaning back slinging a toned arm over the chair next to him. âyouâre far more interesting.â
âWatch it. Lily is my friend,â I shot back, folding my arms across my chest. âWhat do you want, Potter?â
âNothing much,â as he spoke, as he leaned his chair on its back legs. Â âJust thought you could use some company.â
Company? What about me in a dark corner with books scattered about screams I need company. Potter was an idiot.
A special kind of idiot.
âI donât need companyâ I snapped turning back to my notes.
âYou sure?â He was leaning forward now. âYou seem awfully tense maybe I could help.â
I arched an eyebrow at him unimpressed with his antics. The only person in his group I would accept help from was Remus. He spent more time on schoolwork then I did.
âUnless you have suddenly become an expert in transfiguration theory, I seriously doubt you can helpâ Â
Potter hummed before picking up my book.
âTransfiguration, huh?â He tilted his head to the side like a curious dog. The candles reflected off his glasses creating a glare.
âNope canât help with that. But I am an excellent distraction from stress.â
âClearly.â I mumbled, yanking my book back.
He chuckled, a warm sound that I refused to acknowledge as pleasant.
âYou donât have to be so prickly sunshine.â
âMaybe I am prickly because you are insufferable.â I shot back.
I wanted to throw something at him, but the detention was not worth it.
âBut I think you mean I am insufferably charming.â He countered.
âAs charming as a toad.â
That earned me a loud laugh from him, he was genuinely amused. âSunshine has jokes, I like this side of you.â Â
I didnât say anything just flipped him off. Potter laughed again, the sound carrying through the now empty library.
âProngs!â Sirius voice rang out from somewhere near the entrance. âCome on, weâve got rounds.â
James stood up, still looking at me. âGuess Iâll leave you to it, Sunshine.â He winked as he walked away, leaving me wondering what the hell had just happened.
It was about a week later before he spoke to me again. I was on an evening stroll around the grounds enjoying the crisp evening air.
Potter was at the lake skipping stones with his group. They were all laughing and making fun of something. I was to far away to hear. Sirus noticed me first nudging James in the arm pointing in my direction. I narrowed my eyes.
âSunshine!â He called out. As if were the greatest of pals.
I kept walking, acting like I didnât hear him. He jogged up the hill quickly falling into step with me.
âWhat has you in such a hurry?â
âTrying to avoid you and your gaggle of friends.â I was blunt not bothering to soften the blow.
âHarsh,â He clutched his chest dramatically. âYou wound me.â
âYou will survive, especially if you know, just leave me alone.â
There was a beat of silence.
âYou know you could just admit you like meâ
I halted my steps and blinked turning mid step. âWhy on earth would I do that?â
âBecause everyone likes me!â I half expected him to spin with his arms out, but he just shrugged.
The confidence of him. His parents raised an irritatingly confident secure personality. Â
I rolled my eyes, âThat is impossible Potter, because I really donât like you.â Â
âOh, I will grow on you, I promise.â There was a playfulness to his tone.
âLike a fungus, maybe.â I scoffed.
James burst out laughing, the sound wasnât entirely unpleasant. My lips twitched fighting a smile. He was kind of cute in that moment. The way the setting sun caught in his hair and how he absentmindedly adjusted his glasses made him look... well, charming.
Shaking the thought away, I did what came naturally and flipped him off continuing my walk. This time, though, the gesture was almost playful.
Before I got far, I glanced back and spotted Sirius patting James on the back with a mischievous grin. My stomach sank. They were up to something, and I was undoubtedly their next target.
I steeled myself, pulling my walls higher than ever. I wouldnât fall victim to whatever scheme they were concocting.
Not this time.
Avoiding Potter from that point on had become a fulltime task. No matter where I went, he showed up with a cheesy pick-up line. Somehow, he was everywhere. Like he had some sort of magical tracker. Which was why I had taken refuge under the shade of a secluded oak tree on the furthest side of the castle grounds. A book clutched in my hands like it was my lifeline of sanity. Lily had recommended it to me. It was a fun muggle mystery. She had called it a classic.
âI think about it a lot you know. What our first date would look like.â Â Potters annoying voice spoke from above me.
And yet, there he was, like a persistent weed sprouting through the cracks. Of course, the obnoxious boy would find this well-hidden tree. How was he always finding me?
âUmm what?â I sputtered not quite believing what I heard.
âYou heard me sunshine.â that damn confidence was back, as if he was going to get what he wanted out of this conversation.
The sun made it difficult to see him, its light blasting directly into my eyes from behind his head, forming a blinding halo around him.
âStop lying, itâs not cute.â Â I muttered.
Potter moved to the side; my eyes followed. Â He was unfazed by my dismissiveness. I closed my book with a snap, no longer able to tolerate being in the same space as him.
âI promise you, Iâm not,â his voice still dripping with that unshakeable confidence.
He was up to something, and I had no idea what it wasâbut I sure wasnât going to stick around to find out. Â
âI will believe that hmm⌠letâs see- never.â I stood up, almost headbutting Potter. Â
âSunshine, even if you donât believe me now, I am good at proving people wrong.â
Before taking my leave, I flipped him off aggressively. The gesture sharp and final, I wanted him to get the message to leave me alone. Usually when someone flips another person off, they get a clue. Â
But he laughed.
On my way back to the castle I passed by a Sirus Black hiding behind a statue. He was clearly trying (and failing) to stifle a laugh. That confirmed itâthey were definitely up to something, and I had no intention of being the butt of their joke.
Potter had taken Lilys seat in potions class. She sent me an apologetic look when I entered. Slughorn wouldnât be bothered. He just cared that everyone sat and paid attention.
âGuess I am your partner today, Sunshine.â He greeted.
I ignored him, dumping my books on the table with a thud. Ignoring him was not working for me but it was the only thing keeping me from harming him. Â Potter was like a dog with a boneârelentless.
âDid you know youâre my favorite lab partner?â he added, his voice light, teasing.
âNo, and I donât care,â I muttered, flipping through my notes.
Slughorn us gave us instructions to brew the potion we talked about earlier in the week. I opened my notebook to the vigorous notes I had taken. Â I got up collecting everything we needed and started the process without a word.
Halfway through and Potter hadnât moved. He was supposed to be actually helping brew. But he was utterly useless, just sitting there staring at me with his head propped up on his fist. Â
It was infuriating.
âMerlin! Potter, you need to help me,â I snapped, thrusting the spoon in his direction. The frustration in my voice was impossible to miss.
His only response was a stupid dopy grin, He didnât flinch, didnât so much as blink at the spoon an inch from his nose. Instead, that ridiculous grin widened.
"You know, sunshine, if I could brew a potion to make you smile, I would." He winked, and I resisted the urge to hex him.
He was impossible. No wonder Lily always said noâthese were the kind of lines youâd expect from a child. What did I do to earn his attention?
âDo these lines actually work for you?â I frowned.
âI donât know,â he said, his amber eyes twinkling now. âAre they?â
There it was againâhis infuriating ability to twist every interaction into a game. I wasnât playing.
There was no way he was insinuating anything with me. Everyone knew he only had eyes for the redheadâLilyâwho just happened to be my actual potions partner. Just a few weeks ago he was at our table bothering her.
âI meant, do they work on Lily?â I clarified, my voice flat.
James tilted his head, feigning confusion, though the mischievous glint in his eyes gave him away. âWhy would I care about that?â
For the millionth time since Iâd met the boy, I rolled my eyes again.
âFor the love of Merlin, just stir,â I hissed, shoving the spoon into his hand.
To my surprise, he actually complied, though he made a dramatic show of it, swirling the liquid as though he were crafting some grand masterpiece.
âSee? Iâm not completely useless, âhis tone insufferably self-satisfied.
I ignored him, turning my attention back to the notes. Sirius let out a snort of laughter, only to be smacked on the back of the head by Remus.
âGet back to work,â Remus muttered, though his lips twitched with suppressed amusement.
It was impossible to ignore the lingering sense that Potter was up to somethingâand I was the target.
James Potter took it upon himself to sit at my usual dining table. My quiet, little secluded cornerâthe one that no one really bothered with except Lily and her close circle of friends. He slid into the seat across from me his tie undone.
I raised an eyebrow at him, fork halfway to my mouth. What does he want now?
âAre you made of stardust?â I looked heavenward; his tone was teasing but had a softness. âBecause every time I look at you, the world seems to disappear."
I set my fork down, sending him a flat look. âYou seriously think I am going to fall for one of your cheesy lines while eating?â
He was persistent to pull of whatever prank they were up to. If only he applied that persistenceâs to his schoolwork.
Potter shrugged, but this time there was no playful retort. Instead, his grin faded slightly, replaced by something almost... serious. "Maybe Iâm just hoping one will finally catch your attention."
The tone change caught me off guard. I almost believed him. He has been playful and flirty the last few weeks. There was movement a couple feet away that caught my attention. Sirus was leaning against the wall just within earshot.
He looked like he was barely containing a laugh, as though James was the star player in some elaborate joke theyâd cooked up.
They were too obvious. My frown deepened.
"Potter, your games wonât work on me,â my voice sharper than I intended. "Youâre wasting your time."
His gaze softened further, and for once the playfulness was gone. "Maybe I like wasting my time... if it means I get to spend it with you."
The sincerity in his voice made my stomach twist, and I hated it. Hated how, for a fleeting second, I felt something crack in my resolve. But before I could dwell on it, Sirius snorted loudly from his perch, his shoulders shaking with laughter.
Another pick-up line? Another game? Another performance for his friends?
Potter just didnât seem to know when enough was enough. My appetite was officially gone, and I had no intention of sticking around to entertain whatever nonsense they were plotting.
âYou really donât get it, do you?â I said slinging my bag over my shoulder.  âIâm not just some joke to you and your friends.â
âWaitââ James started, his hand reaching out like he might stop me.
But I didnât give him the chance. Before he could say another word, I flipped him off and stalked out of the dining hall, not bothering to look back.
The moment I stepped into the corridor, the tension in my chest eased slightly, though my thoughts still churned. It was bad enough that James had inserted himself into nearly every aspect of my day. Classes, hallways, even the library. He was everywhere.
I didnât know what he and his friends were planning.
And yet, as I made my way through the castle, a new thought began to gnaw at the edges of my frustration. Was this all part of some elaborate ploy to make Lily jealous? A way to grab her attention by pretending to care about someone else?
The idea stung more than I wanted to admit.
Of course, I told myself firmly. That has to be it. Why else would someone like James Potter be wasting his time with me?
Pushing the thought aside, I tightened my grip on my bag and headed for the common room. I wasnât going to let himâor his stupid, infuriating grinâtake up any more space in my head.
Lily my saving grace was in her spot when I entered the potions classroom. Relief flooded through me, and for the first time in days I felt lighter. There she was my red headed angel. With a smile, I dropped into my seat next to her, savoring the normalcy.
âI didnât think Iâd ever be so happy to see your face," I whispered to Lily.
She laughed softly. "James is persistent, isnât he? I got to class early to make sure I got my spot.â
As if on cue, the door to the classroom opened, and Potterâs messy head of hair appeared. His eyes dulled when he noticed Lily sitting next to me. For a moment, his usual smile faltered, the realization that his plan had been thwarted clearly hitting him. He glanced at me, then back at Lily, shaking his head. I stuck my tongue out at him in playful defiance.
James gave me a half-smile, and made his way to the table behind us.
Lily leaned in closer, her side brushing against mine as she whispered, ââDo you need help getting James to leave you alone?â Â
I shook my head. âNo, he will lose interest eventually.â
She gave me a look before responding. âI doubt that. He has always had his eyes on you.â
I shot her sideways glance. âHe was always flirting with you and begging you to date him.â
Her lips curled into a small knowing smile. âOnly when I am around you. Which is why I always said no.â Â
My eyes widened in disbelief, and I almost laughed. âYouâre crazy,â
my voice was just above a whisper now.
But as I took in her words, something shifted inside me. We all knew James potter had been in love with Lily for years- He had practically made a sport out of trying to win her over. But hearing her admit that his attention had only intensified when I was around... it felt strange.
I couldnât help the flicker of discomfort that passed through me at the thought. Why would he suddenly change tactics? I was still convinced he was playing a prank.
Lily nudged me gently, âYouâre not as oblivious as you pretend to be, you know.â
I sighed, trying to ignore the strange, fluttering feeling in my stomach. âIâm not oblivious. I just donât want to deal with it.â
She chuckled softly, her voice full of affection. âYou dont have to deal with it alone. Just know Iâm here for you, alright?â
I gave her a grateful smile, leaning in to whisper back, âThanks, Lil I donât know what Iâd do without you.â
Her smile softened, and she gave my shoulder a gentle squeeze.
The Gryffindor common room was warm and bustling with activity, the fire crackling in the hearth and casting flickering shadows across the walls. Groups of students gathered in clusters, laughing and chatting, while others bent over homework or played games. I had tucked myself away in a corner near the window, the happy buzzing fading into background noise as I doodled in my notebook.
I glanced up when I heard Potters voice, a playful lilt as he joked with Sirius on their way in. My heart sank. My shoulders stiffened, and I hunched further over my parchment, praying heâd move along. Surely, he wouldnât notice me here.
He made eye contact with me immediately, as if he knew I was there.
The room seemed to hush around me, or perhaps it was just my nerves heightening as his footsteps grew closer.
âI need to talk to you,â he said, stopping beside my chair. There was a resolve in his eyes. Potter was determined right now.
I didnât make eye contact. âWhatever it is, Iâm not interested.â
But he didnât move. Instead, he crouched slightly to meet my gaze, his usual grin replaced by a more serious expression. âI mean it. Can we talk?â
My patience snapped. My chair scraped against the stone floor as I stood up. âIâm not sure what you and your group are up to,â I said, my voice low.
âBut stay away from me. I am not something to play with and laugh at.â
âThatâs not whatââ
I didnât want to hear what he had to say. It was probably all lies anyway.
âSave it, Potter,â I cut him off, crossing my arms tightly over my heart.
The usual noise of the common room seemed to fade entirely. I just wanted to be left alone, to return to the peace of being forgotten by most. I was here to get an education, to keep my head down, and leave this castle behind.
His expression faltered, just for a second, before he squared his shoulders. âItâs not a joke. Iâm notââ
âI donât care, I just want to be left alone.â
He sighed, dragging a hand through his messy hair, a nervous tic Iâd seen countless times now. âYou think Iâd go through all this trouble for a joke? You think Iâdââ
Potter stopped talking when my eyes flicked to Sirius, who was lounging on one of the sofas, smirking like he found the entire situation hilarious. A look of understanding crossed Jamesâs features.
âPlease, Sunshineâ his voice softer now, almost pleading. His hand reached out, grasping my wrist as I turned to walk away his fingers brushing against my pulse. âListen to me.â
I froze, my pulse quickening, but not from fear. No not from fear.
âWe arenât playing some joke. Sirus is always around as moral support. He is a shitty wingman.â
Sirus let out an offended noise.
âLet me go,â I hissed, narrowing my eyes at him. âI donât trust you.â
When he didnât release my wrist, I glared and flipped him off with my free hand. His lips twitched, almost into a smile, but the determination in his gaze didnât waver.
âGo ahead and flip me off, love,â his voice tinged with quiet resolve. âIâll prove to you that Iâm serious.â
The words hung between us like a dare, his amber eyes searching mine for some crack in the wall Iâd so carefully built. I was stunned into silence. This wasnât the James Potter Iâd come to expectâthe grinning troublemaker who lived for attention and pranks. This was different.
âProve what?â I said flatly, more a statement than a question. Â
âThat I really really like you,â he replied, his grip on my wrist loosening but not quite letting go. âIâm not playing games. I know Iâve been... annoying.â
An understatement.
âBut I need you to know that Iâm not doing this to mess with you.â
I snorted, though the sound lacked conviction. âYouâre always messing with someone, Potter.â
âNot you,â he said softly.
That stopped me cold. There was no smirk, no teasing edge, just the quiet insistence of his words and the weight of his gaze.
I shook my head, pulling my hand free.
âYou donât have to believe me now,â he said as I stepped back. âBut Iâll prove it to you.â
I paused, my heart inexplicably skipping a beat. Then, without another word, I turned and walked away, leaving him standing there.
Things werenât like before when James Potter was just an annoyanceâ a loud self-assured presence that demanded attention. Whether you wanted to give it to him or not. No, something was different now, and I was having a hard time making sense of it.
He stopped pestering me in class. There was no interrupting my study sessions or tossing out cheesy pickup lines. Instead, he was actually helping me in class, gave me space when I asked for it, and didnât push my buttons just for the fun of it.
I couldnât remember the last time I had flipped him off, and strangely I did miss it.
Part of me hated the change. It felt like losing an old habit. But the other half of me was enjoying the calm side of him. The side of James that was almost thoughtful. Maybe he really wasnât doing it all for attention or laughs.
I was hidden between bookshelves, shelving the books I no longer needed when I caught the unmistakable sound of Sirusâs voice. It was loud and drifting from a nearby table.
Eavesdropping was bad. I knew that. But my curiosity was piqued and so I took small slow steps, careful to not make a sound.
âShe is a lost causeâ Sirus was saying, his tone almost sarcastic.
Who is she? Was the âsheâ me?
âI mean it, James. She always flipping you off and has a permanent scowl. Its hopeless mate.â
Ahh so the she was definitely me. My heart twinged in a way I didnât expect. I did flip Potter off a lot, but hearing Sirus dismiss me so easily stung.
âSirus.â Jamesâs tone came out as a warning. âYou donât know her, and you are crossing a line.â
Sirius paused, his grin faltering as he looked at James with a raised hand. âAlright, alright, no need to get all protective. I was just making a point.â
James didnât respond, his jaw set as he turned back to his parchment, the tension in his shoulders lingered as his quill scratched along the paper.
I ducked back behind the shelf, my heart racing for reasons I did not want to admit. James had defended me to his best friend. Made it clear I wasnât someone he could get a laugh at.
James wasnât as bad as I thought he was. There was more to him then the playful antics and relentless charm. And I wasnât entirely sure how I felt about that.
James had gotten hurt during quidditch practice last night. Lily had casually mentioned he was being kept in the hospital wing for observation. Apparently, they were worried that his head injury was worse than it seemed.Â
I hated to admit it, but I was worried about him. An annoying flutter in my chest came at the thought of him laying there injured and alone. But how could I just go visit him? Just showing up out of nowhere would seem odd. Especially after I spent so much energy convincing myself, and everyone else, that I couldnât stand him.
When my notes tumbled out of my bag I had tossed to the side, I found my excuse.
I will make copies of my notes.
 Its practical.
Thoughtful.
Not suspicious.
It wasnât long before I found myself standing in the doorway of the hospital wing, clutching the freshly copied notes nervously. I should leave. This was stupid. Remus would have notes for him when he was released. He didnât need me.
Before I could back out the door he saw me. His eyes lit up and lips curved upwards into a smile despite the cut on his lip.
âSunshine, you came to visit.â His voice was warm.
âDonât flatter yourself,â I shot back, waving the notes at him. âMcGonagall asked me to bring these.â
He smirked seeing right through my lie.
âDid she?â he asked, leaning forward slightly. He winced at the motion, and before I could think I was at his bedside.
âStop moving, you are going to make things worse.â I scolded.
James raised his hands up in mock surrender. âYes maâam.â
Rolling my eyes I hesitated for a moment before sitting on the edge of the bed. Up close the injury looked worse. A dark bruise was peeking out over the top of the bandage. A quick pang of sympathy ran through me.
James must have noticed my expression, because his pupils softened.
âYou know,â he said a teasing lilt to his tone, but nothing over the top. âIâd get hurt more often if it meant youâd visit me like this.â
Without warning I reached out, brushing his stray curls away from his forehead. They were softer than I had expected.
âDonât be stupid,â I muttered, handing him the notes.
As he reached out to take them, his fingers brushed against mine. The contact was brief, but it sent a jolt through me. I pulled my hand back immediately, pretending to adjust the hem of my sleeve.
âYouâre ridiculous,â my words lacked their usual bite.
âRidiculously happy to see you.â he countered, grinning in that familiar, infuriating way.
Groaning, I shifted to stand up, but his hand caught mine, gently pulling me back down. This time, I didnât pull away. I let his fingers curl around mine. Â
âThanks for coming,â His thumb brushed lightly against the back of my hand, a gesture so simple and tender that it caught me off guard.
I swallowed hard, my throat suddenly dry.
âItâs just notes.â
âItâs more than that,â he replied, his eyes holding mine. âIt means something.â
I didnât know how to respond, so I let the silence stretch between us. When I finally pulled my hand away so he could rest, I missed the warmth of his touch.
âWell,â I said, standing. âDonât get used to it.â
âWeâll see about that.â He winked.
âGet some rest Potter.â
âWhat will it take for you to call me James?â Â
I paused at the foot of his bed, glancing back at him with a smirk.
âWe will just have to see,â I quipped.
Something had shifted, and there was no going back.
The biting cold of the Forbidden Forest seeped through my robes as I stumbled over a twisted root. I barley caught myself before face planting into the dirt. My wand was clenched into a death grip, the dim glow of Lumos casting a little more then a pale circle of light. Shadows stretched in every direction, distorting the trees into looming specters. It was an endless sea of black.
Shit, shit, shit.
âBrilliant,â I grumbled to myself attempting to lighten my mood with sarcasm. âAbsolutely brilliant.â
Class had ended ages ago. The castle was surely alive with the hum of dinner, but I was lost, hungry and beyond exhausted. My arm throbbed where I had scraped it against a jagged branch, and panic began to set in. Now would be a great time for James to magically appear like he always did.
A sudden rustle nearby caused me to freeze in place. My heart was beating against my ribs rapidly. I slowly moved the light in the direction the sound came from.
There was a low growl from somewhere in the darkness. My breath caught in my throat. I was going to die here.
And I ran.
I didnât know where I was going, but staying felt like an early invite to my grave. Twigs snapped under my feet; the cold air stung my face.
A bright white beam of light pierced through the trees, and a frantic voice followed.
âSunshine, where are you?â
Relief flooded through the me my knees buckled.
âIâm here!â I called out my voice trembling. I was going to cry.
The growling stopped abruptly, and there was hurried footsteps making their way to me.
James burst into view, his wand raised high, and his hair was a mess more so then usual. His white button up was disheveled and stained, as if he had plowed through every branch in his path to get to me. His wild eyes locked on mine, and his entire body sagged with visible relief.
But only for a moment.
In a heartbeat, his hands were gripping my shoulders, his gaze scanning me from head to toe.
âAre you hurt?â Â he demanded, his tone rough with worry.
Before I could answer his hands moved to my face, gently pushing back stray strands of hair. His touch was warm, a stark contrast to the icy air. A shiver ran through me, though I wasnât sure if it was from the cold or something else.
I shook my head, trying to find my voice.
âIâm fine.â I whispered.
âMerlinâs beard,â he muttered, pulling me into a tight, impulsive hug.
The sudden contact startled me. James Potter, the boy who loved a good laugh at my expense, was hugging me like his life depended on it. His arms were strong and steady, and for a moment, the situation didnât feel so terrifying.
I didnât pull away. Instead, I let myself sink into the warmth of him. My hands found their way to his back, clutching the fabric of his shirt as I breathed in the scent of sandalwood and vanilla.
âYou scared the hell out of me.â Â He mumbled into my hair.
James was the first to pull away, his hands lingering on my arms looking me over again. Like he was checking for hidden injuries.
âYou have a cut.â
The way he said it was so soft I almost missed it.
Iâd forgotten about it until he mentioned it. Glancing at my arm, I saw the dried blood and torn sleeve. âItâs nothing,â I said quickly, not wanting to make a fuss. âI just need to clean it.â
James frowned, clearly not satisfied with my answer. He stepped closer, holding his wand up to examine it. The warmth of him was back, his presence grounding me.
âWhat are you even doing out here alone?â he demanded, exasperation creeping into his tone. Â
âIâI got lost,â My cheeks burned at my admission. âI was late for class, and I thought I found a shortcut.â
He stared at me like Iâd grown a second head. âA shortcut? Through the Forbidden Forest?â His voice rose slightly, incredulous. âDo you have any idea how dangerousââ He cut himself off, running a hand through his already messy hair yanking on it a bit.
âI didnât mean to cause a panic,â I said quickly. âOr waste your time.â
James froze, his jaw tightening. For a moment, he said nothing, his wand hand trembling slightly as he lowered it. âWaste my time?â he repeated, his voice low, almost bewildered.
I winced. Â
âWaste my time?â he said again, his words sharper this time. He stepped closer, his eyes locking onto mine with a fire I hadnât seen before.
âSorry.â I squeaked out.Â
The way he was acting caught me off guard. I looked over his shoulder and into the dark, the weight of his concern was overwhelming.
I figured the only person who would notice me missing was Lily.
âDonât you get it?â His hands found my face again, his thumbs brushing over my cheeks. âI know you donât believe it, but I care about you. You stubborn, brilliant, infuriating woman. Thatâs why I came running the second I heard you were missing.â
My breath hitched, the weight of his words crashing into me like a wave. His touch was gentle, grounding, but his gaze was unrelenting, raw, and unguarded.
After a long moment, he pulled back slightly and extended a hand. âCome on,â he said softly. âLetâs get out of here before you catch your death.â
I hesitated, my eyes lingering on his outstretched hand before placing mine in his. His grip was firm, steady, and when his fingers curled around mine, they held on like he was afraid I might disappear.
As we walked through the trees, his thumb brushed lightly against the back of my handâa quiet reassurance that made my chest ache in a way I wasnât ready to examine.
For the first time, James Potter didnât feel like an annoyance. He felt like a lifeline.
Gryffindor won the quidditch game. Our common room was alive with the hum of celebration. Streamers of crimson and gold were lazily thrown up around the space. Cheers erupted from everyone when the team entered the crowded dance area.
I stood off to the side, cradling an empty cup, at the edge of the room away from the crowd. Lily, was perched in the chair beside me. She laughed at a first-year attempting to smuggle an oversized barrel of butterbeer across the room. A sixth-year intercepted it with a laugh, stowing it out of reach.
It was enough to distract me from the figure weaving through the crowd.
James.
He towered over most of the cluster of people, his curly hair unmistakable, still damp from the post-match shower. His Quidditch jersey clung to his frame, the number on his back catching the light. He looked every bit the victorious captain, and the sight of him sent an uninvited warmth through my chest.
âWhatâs with the brooding? We just won! You should be grinning like that prat over there.â Lily asked shoving a full glass in my hand. She pointed to James who was laughing with his gaggle of friends.
âIâm not brooding,â I replied, taking a sip. âJust enjoying the chaos from a safe distance.â
âIf thatâs what you want to believe.â She winked, already dancing away toward the center of the room.
James appeared in front of me, his grin widening when our eyes met.
âThere you are, Sunshine. Thought youâd gone into hiding.â
That warm, teasing lilt had become as familiar as the sound of my own heartbeat.
âSomeone has to make sure you lot doesnât burn our living space down.â
He chuckled.
âBut, not hiding,â I replied, glancing over his shoulder. âJust... thinking.â
He leaned casually against the wall beside me his foot brushing mine, but there was something softer in his expression tonight. His warm brown eyes held a warmth that sent a flutter through my chest.
âCare to share whatâs on your mind?â his tone curious.
I hesitated, swirling the liquid in my glass. âItâs just... a lot to take in. Everythingâs been soâdifferent.â
James tilted his head, a small smile tugging at his lips. âDifferent how?â
I turned to face him fully, âYou. Us. Everything. Just three months ago, I couldnât stand you.â
âAnd now?â he asked, his voice quieter, the teasing edge gone.
I bit my lip, suddenly feeling shy under his gaze. âNow... Iâm not sure I ever did.â
His grin widened, but it wasnât cocky or self-assured like the ones he used to flash at me in the past. This one was softer, filled with something that made my heart ache in the best way.
âIâd say thatâs progress,â he murmured, stepping closer. His hand reached out, brushing a stray strand of hair behind my ear. His fingers lingered, against my skin.
I let out a breath I hadnât realized Iâd been holding. âYouâre not going to make a big speech about how you knew Iâd come around eventually, are you?â
He chuckled, the sound low and comforting. âNot tonight.â
âGood.â
We stayed there for a moment, neither of us speaking. His eyes brighter then usual.
âEnjoying the celebration?â he asked trying to act casual about my confession.
âItâs... lively,â I said, unable to hide a small smile.
He raised an eyebrow, feigning offense. âWe just crushed Slytherin, I think itâs more than lively.â
I shrugged, taking a sip of my butterbeer. âIt was a decent match.â
I couldnât help but tease him.
âDecent?â He leaned forward, his knees pressing more firmly against mine. âYouâre impossible, you know that?â
âI canât make things to easy for you Potter.â Â
His grin softened, and for a moment, the noise of the room seemed to fade. âYou never do.â
James moved back a half step. âTake a walk with me?â
âOk.â Â
He didnât ask just grabbed my hand navigating us through the crowd. We didnât stop walking till we were outside strolling through a field of grass. The stars were bright and beautiful tonight.  It was almost romantic.
âYou know,â he began, his tone light, âI was thinking.â
âDangerous territory,â I teased, the corners of my mouth lifting.
He laughed, the sound warm and familiar. âMaybe. But I was wondering what it might take for you to stop calling me Potter.â
I raised an eyebrow. âWhat will it take for you to stop calling me Sunshine?â
He grinned, pulling me closer. âNever. Thatâs non-negotiable.â
âThen I guess youâre stuck with âPotter.ââ
He hummed thoughtfully, lacing our fingers together. The simple gesture sent a comforting sensation coursing through me that no spell could replicate.
âWhat makes you think youâve earned us being on a first name basis?â
âScoring the winning goal isnât enough?â he asked, mock-offended.
âNot even close.â
He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping just enough to make my stomach flutter. âThen what if I told you Iâd do whatever it takes?â
âYou are persistent.â I laughed.
âOnly for you.â
James usual playful retorts absent in his tone.
I looked up at him, my breath catching at the way his eyes searched mine.
âMaybe just maybe I donât mind that anymore.â I added, just loud enough for him to hear.
His grin returned, but this time it was softer, almost shy. âDoes that mean I can finally take you on that first date?â
I hummed tapping my chin, pretending to think about it. âMaybe.â
I had the teasing tone now.
He laughed, his thumb brushing against my hand. The world seemed to still as he leaned in, stopping just short of my lips. The question in his eyes was unmistakable. I nodded, barely visible.
When his lips met mine, it was like every piece of the puzzle I hadnât known was missing finally clicked into place. His hand came up to cradle my cheek, the kiss warm and steady, filled with a kind of tenderness I hadnât realized he was capable of.
When we pulled back, his forehead rested against mine, and I felt his smile against my skin.
âFinally,â he whispered, his breath tickling my nose.
I giggled shaking my head. âDonât ruin the moment, Potter.â
âJames,â he corrected.
âJames,â I echoed, and it felt right in a way I couldnât explain.
âThat wasnât so hard, was it?â
I rolled my eyes, but I couldnât hide my smile. âDonât let it go to your head.â
âNever.â He placed a quick kiss on my lips.Â

When Steve Harrington invites you to a birthday party, he fails to mention itâs for a four-year-old.Â
The tiny trailer is decked out in decoration. A fusion of black and rainbow, of bats and unicorns, of vampires and Tickle Me Elmo â like no one could land on a singular theme.Â
Steve guides you into the home with a golden hand on the small of your back, his other clutching a sparkly black bag with Count von Countâs face on it. You stop very suddenly in your tracks. Happy 4th Birthday, Maeve! reads a handpainted sign draped beneath the ceiling.
You become very hyperaware of the whiskey bottle in your right hand, something you figured would be the most sufficient thing to gift someone youâd never met before. You just hadnât expected the stranger to be a child.
âWhat the fuck, Steve?â you bite under your breath, glaring at the boy beside you. âI thought you said this was your friendâs birthday party?â
âMaeve is my friend,â he answers with a stupid shrug. âThough, to be fair, I did say it was my friendâs kidâs birthday party.â
He most definitely hadnât.
âWhat the hellâ I brought booze!â
âThatâs okay,â assures a wild-haired boy with a pretty pink grin as he walks up to the two of you. The friend in question.Â
Eddie Munson wears a silver ring on each finger and a thick leather jacket despite the warming spring season. His laughter sounds like sunshine. His smile is bright enough to give you a goddamn sunburn.
âMaeveâs been getting presents all dayâ Itâs about time someone got somethinâ for me,â he jokes.
You grimace while the two boys laugh. âSorryâŚâ you murmur as you pass him the bottle, shrinking inside yourself in an attempt to hide from the moment. Iâm never letting Steve convince me to leave the house again, you think to yourself.
Eddie shrugs. âDonât worry about it. Seriously. Iâll go stick this in the kitchenâ Make yourself at home.â
Your racing heart quells only slightly. He must be more of a good guy than Steve made him out to be, if heâs willing to keep you around after you brought booze to his daughterâs party. Though, youâll contend that you were only half at fault for this.
Steve bites back a chuckle as he walks you to the back door, standing with you on the little wooden deck lined with sparkly streamers. Thereâs a picnic table off in the distance, covered in a bat-patterned cloth and set with Sesame Street-themed utensils. A small crowd of teenagers gather around it, and a couple of their parents, you figure.
The spring breeze only half soothes your burning skin.
âSee?â he lilts, trying not to laugh and failing. âHe likes you alreadyââ
You swat his chest with a less than kind hand.Â
âOw!â
âIâm gonna fucking kill you, Harrington, I swear toââ
âWhatâs your favorite animal?â a tiny voice asks from behind you, a smidge too loud and confusing their Râs with Wâs.
You look over your shoulder, face flooded with horror. A kid with wild chocolate hair stands at less than half your height, wearing the tiniest Ozzy Osbourne shirt youâve ever seen beneath a rainbow tutu. You donât know what to say, so you just blink at it for a moment â at her.
âHey, Maeve,â Steve greets with a curt wave.
The girl beams, missing her very front tooth. âHi, Uncle Steve!â
âWhaâ Huh?â you stammer mindlessly. âCause youâre not exactly the best at talking to people your own age, let alone to children. Theyâre too honest. And too loud. And beyond still feeling like a kid yourself most days, you donât have anything in common with them.
âWhatâs your favorite animal?â Maeve repeats in the same inflection, smiling until a dimple appears in her freckled cheek. âMineâs a Hefflelump.â
âHef⌠Hefflelump?â you echo quietly, only vaguely registering Steveâs laughter as he disappears through the screeching screen door, leaving you all alone. Youâre definitely killing him for this.
âYeah⌠From Winne the Pooh!â she says like itâs obvious.
âOh⌠OkayâŚâ
âWhatâs yours?â
You stumble over your words to find an answer. âUm⌠Uh⌠I donâtâ I donât knowâŚâ
âEveryone has a favorite animal,â she scoffs like some kinda critic with a speech impediment. She tilts her chin to her chest and peers up at you with a pair of doe eyes, so brown theyâre almost black. You shift your weight on your feet, visibly uncomfortable beneath her unwavering stare.
âMaybe like a⌠A blobfish, or something?â you shrug.
Her tiny face screws in disgust. âGross,â she spits.
You flinch. âWhat? Why is that gross?â you retort, crossing your arms over your chest, more defensive than youâd like to admit.
âTheyâre so ugly,â Maeve giggles.
âWhy?â you squint. ââCause they look differently than we do?â
âNo!â she laughs, loud and golden, just like her father. ââS âcause theyâre so slimy.â
âWellâ Youâ Youâre slimy,â you stammer.
The wild-haired girl grins with all her baby teeth (well, besides the front one, anyway). âYouâre slimy!â she echoes with a mischievous twinkle in her chocolate eyes.
The screen door squeals open again, the rusted hinges screeching in protest. âWhoâs slimy?â a male voice questions from behind you, a smile audible in his voice.
âYou are!â you and Maeve chorus at the same time.Â
You whip your head around a second too late. Your heart drops to your ass when you find Eddie lingering in the doorway behind you. You stumble over your words while Maeve giggles. âSorry! I thoughtâ I thought you were Steve! Iâm so sorry!â
A chuckle sputters from Eddieâs mouth. Heâs nearly as grieved by it all as you are. âHe just left,â he tells you with a lopsided smile, cocking his thumb over his shoulder. âI think heâs helping Wayne out front. Theyâre putting together Maeveâs d-o-l-l-h-o-u-s-e.â
His eyes flit upward as he tries hard to spell the word correctly. Upon your confused look, he says, âI canât say it, or sheâll know what Iâm talking about.â
âRight,â you nod.
Eddie crouches and holds his arms out for his daughter. Maeveâs tiny feet patter against the wooden deck as she rushes to him. He huffs at the weight of her â heavier than he remembers and getting bigger every day (which is weird âcause she was a newborn, like, a week ago). He grunts when he picks her up, propping her weight on his side.
âWhat were the two of you talkinâ about, then?â
âBlobfish!â she shouts with a beam.
Eddie breathes out a faint chuckle and turns to you. âSheâs forcinâ you to pick a favorite animal, huh?â he wonders, then laughs a bit louder when you nod. âYeah, sheâs been doing that all day. Itâs her new thing,â he says, nuzzling the tip of his nose into her curls.Â
Realization seems to him then, and his brows furrow when he looks at you. His face, all twisted in confusion, is an exact replica of Maeveâs.Â
âWaitâ Your favorite animal is a blobfish?â
âThatâs what I said!â the girl laughs.
You shift your weight on your feet and cross your arms over your chest. âIâm⌠feeling very judged in this momentâŚâ you murmur under your breath, only half joking.
âI think thatâs the most creative answer weâve had yet, huh, Mae?â Eddie chuckles.
You scoff. âWell, I think Hefflelumpâs pretty creative consideringââ
The boy clears his throat, seeming to sense the rest of your sentence. His eyes widen in a lighthearted glare before he nods to the girl on his hip. Only then do you realize the words sitting on the tip of your tongue. You swallow them down immediately.
âRightâŚâ you nod instead. âNevermindâŚâ
âHereââ Eddie huffs as he sets the girl down again. ââGo find Aunt Robin, alright? Sheâs probably decorating your cake as we speak.â
Maeve rushes off at the word cake, tottering on lanky, ungraceful legs. The two of you watch her go and linger in an awkward silence. Neither of you is quite sure how to make conversation without her there. You decide to start with an apology.
âIâm, uh, Iâm sorry, by the way. Again,â you laugh awkwardly at yourself, scratching at the back of your neck. âIâm not⌠Iâm not really⌠great with kids. If you couldnât already tell.â
Eddie grins, pink and lopsided and pretty. You donât feel deserving of the warmth swimming in his button eyes, glimmering beneath an early setting sun. âItâs okay. Seriously. You shouldâve seen Robin and Steve the first time they met herâ they were hopeless. And now theyâre⌠Sort of alright, I guess.â
You force a faint chuckle. âYeah, Iâmâ Iâm just not used to being around them, I guess. I donât even think Iâve talked to a kid her age since, like, elementary school.â
âI was the same way. âTil I had Maeve and allâŚâ
âWell, I couldnât tell,â you assure him with a wavering smile. âYouâre, like, a total pro. Youâre great with her.â
He ducks his head to hide his blushing cheeks. The apples of them speckle warm and pink beneath the weight of your compliment.Â
âWell⌠thank you,â he says, deflecting from your praise with that stupid, posh, D&D accent he always uses when he gets nervous. You donât notice him grimacing at himself because youâre still stewing in your own embarrassment.
âAnd sorry for the booze, too. I seriously didnât mean to bringâ I mean, Steve didnât even tell me thatââ
âStop apologizing,â Eddie chuckles warmly. âThat partâs not your fault, alright? I donât know if you know this or not, but your boyfriendâs a total idiot.â
Your face screws up. âOh, heâs notâ Steveâs not my boyfriend.â
The boyâs smile ebbs. âNo?â
âNo. No way!â you laugh before you mean to. âIâm pretty sure Iâm just, like, his replacement best friend since Robin started dating Vickie.âÂ
Wide-eyed and distantly relieved, Eddie stammers like a teenage boy. âOh. Right. Thatâs⌠Thatâs cool. Yeah.â
âYeahâŚâ you echo.
âWell, uhâ Iâm gonna see if Wayne wants any help,â he blurts despite knowing heâs been barred from doing handy work since he nearly drove a nail through his own finger. He just needs a way out, lest he keep stumbling over himself and lose all of his cool points with you.Â
He saunters backward through the opened door and nearly trips over the frame.
You bite back a laugh. He forces a wavering smile.Â
âBut, um, I was thinkinâ about cracking open that bottle you brought. You know, after Maeveâs in bed and everything. If youâ If you wanna hang around that longâŚâ
The silence makes him as nervous as a teenage boy, all writhing and uncomfy in his skin. You nod in agreement, and his sparkling chest swells all over again. âYeah,â you reply, lip quirked in a poorly hidden smile. âSure. Iâdâ Iâd like thatâŚâ
He smiles, all proud of himself. âGood. Thatâs⌠Thatâs good,â he stutters, then swallows hard and scurries off before you change your mind.Â
Before he shuts the squealing screen door behind him, you hear Robinâs voice exclaim loudly from the kitchen. âWhat the hellâs a blobfish?!â

What Remains Unspoken.
Yan Chrollo x F Reader x Yan Feitan
Warnings: Yandere themes & unhealthy relationships. Word count: 2.2k.
If thereâs anywhere Feitan looks out of his element, itâs in the sun.Â
The celestial object serves as his antitheses â warm, bright, and inviting. Given his pallid countenance, he must agree. On the rare occasions you can go outside, he keeps to the shadows, whose darkness could never match the depravity festering inside his rotten soul. You believe night itself would flee from him if it knew a fraction of his crimes.Â
When you first saw him enter direct sunlight, a certain superstition overtook you, triumphing over reason. You observed with tentative expectation, waiting for something to happen, whatever that something may be. For his skin to break out into blisters, flesh to sizzle, and howls of agony to dominate the air as he disintegrated into a pile of ash; in short, a demise befitting a monster like himself. Regrettably, this didnât happen. Disappointment weighed heavy on your chest when he went on his merry way.Â
Presently, he stands hidden amidst a cluster of trees, acting every bit the fairytale ghoul your overactive imagination wished him to be. Through the branches' interstices, light speckles his dark outerwear. Itâs a hot, balmy day, though eveningâs arrival soothes the worst of the heat.Â
Unlike him, youâre dressed for the weather. This morning, upon leaving your shower, you found the comfortable clothes you picked out beforehand âmysteriouslyâ replaced. A short, light blue dress featuring a sweetheart neckline and spaghetti straps laid there instead. That wasnât all. Jewelry, heels, and other various accessories were tossed haphazardly alongside it, like youâd been undecided on what to wear before a first date. Except you hadnât been the one to get everything out. Feitan was. Prior to that, he never took any interest in what you wore.Â
No, that attribute belongs to another, whose memory fills you with sickening dread.Â
You sit at a wooden picnic table, examining the parkâs abundant foliage. Thereâs little else for you to do. Feitanâs yet to give any indication as to why youâre here. Typically, his modus operandi consists of stashing you far away from the publicâs purview. From time to time, youâll travel elsewhere, always using methods that limit your potential interactions with others. This part of the park may be less populated, but hikers and families can still stroll by. You take care not to draw attention to yourself when they do.Â
Sighing, you stand, fully aware of the eyes monitoring you in the distance. Unsure of what else to do, you approach the last place you spotted Feitan. He says nothing as you approach. You hug yourself, almost regretting your decision to seek him out. By giving you no parameters to work with, youâre left constantly second-guessing yourself, fearing that youâve broken some unspoken rule. Standing by his side feels like a safer bet than risking a stranger coming over to strike up a conversation.Â
âBored?â Feitan asks.Â
You freeze, thinking over your next words with care. If he believes this little outing is a âprivilegeâ, you doubt heâd appreciate you maligning it. Then again, heâs suggested creative punishments for your tongue whenever itâs formed a lie. Considering this, you decide itâs best to redirect the conversation.Â
âIâm just wondering if thereâs anything I should be doing,â you say. When he raises a thin eyebrow, you hastily add, âSorry, I meanââÂ
He flicks your forehead, silencing you.Â
âSo nervous,â he croons. âLike little rabbit.âÂ
Irritation bubbles up inside your chest, like a geyser ready to erupt. You want to scoff, asking why he thinks that is, but the provocation goes unchallenged. He isnât wrong, per se. Every snap of a twig or distant conversation the wind carries instills unease. Endless grisly possibilities swarm your mind. All it could take is a greeting, wave, hell, even a look for Feitan to decide that personâs committed the ultimate transgression.Â
Suddenly, this preoccupation flees your mind.
Shivers erupt all over your body. Your breathing halts, as do all other forms of movement. The five senses that categorize and make sense of the world recede, like the shoreline moments before a tsunami. What remains eclipses common sense. Itâs this unprovable premonition, a whisper amidst the universeâs chaotic chorus few can ever hear. No tangible stimuli support this phenomenon. Youâd believe yourself temporarily mad, if not for one damning detail.Â
Youâve felt this before.Â
The time youâd been found after your first (and only) escape.Â
After a well-meaning Hunter pried you from the shackles of captivity, for less than a minute.Â
Then, at the height of your hubris, when you yelled that your first love would be your last.Â
The intensity honed to a fine point. It pierced through you like a gunshot, so visceral that youâd check yourself for signs of the wound. You never found anything. You think it was how your brain wanted to make sense of the unknown, mistaking the force of concentrated emotion for a flesh wound. This extremity wasnât kind, but it wasnât malevolent either; it was oppressive. Heavy, carnal. A starved beast prowling toward cornered prey.Â
When youâd been subjected to this, the subjugator always spoke some variation ofâÂ
ââApologies. My control waned there, for a moment⌠but can you blame me?âÂ
Someoneâs touching you. Someoneâs cupping your face in their hands, devouring each detail of your being, and Feitanâs letting them. You stumble back, only to be caught. The hands holding you in place are larger than Feitanâs. Warmer too, a little less calloused, though no less stained in oceans of blood. If Feitanâs eyes are knife-like, trying to stab through your skull for any hint at your inner thoughts, then these eyes are calm. Calculating in a way that makes you feel small.Â
âYouâre lovelier than I remember,â the man murmurs. A breeze passes through, displacing your hair, which he tucks back into place. His lips twitch upward, indicating amusement. âWhat? Did you believe youâd ridden yourself of me?âÂ
Despite your reverie, you shake your head. The man before you â Chrollo Lucilfer â smiles. Itâs deceptively soft. Had you not known him better, youâd think the fondness he currently regards you with as warm; the gentle flames of a hearth. There are tells that reveal another story. His grip varies in strength as heâs reminded of how delicate you are, indicating a lack of his usual âmindfulness.â You both know heâs putting on a front of normalcy, yet the charade is rarely this lackluster. He descended upon you faster than the human eye could comprehend. Thereâd been no casual stride, just an impulse to have you as immediately as physics would allow. His pupils are dilated and his cheeks slightly flushed, like you were a substance to get drunk off of.Â
The embrace he pulls you into is tight enough to make you squeak.Â
You expect him to rile you up, whispering teasing words into your ear, yet heâs silent. Unusually so. He buries his face into the crook of your exposed neck, breathing you in, holding you close. Any pretense of cordiality is dropped as he acts like the greedy man he truly is. This neediness is reminiscent of a child reunited with their lost, favorite toy.Â
The unsettling intimacy doesnât last for long.Â
Chrollo releases you from his grasp. The relief is fleeting, as youâre acutely aware of Feitanâs presence. Heâs stationed not far behind you, watching the scene in silence. The sadistic manâs capacity to share fully eluded your understanding. From what you can remember, Chrolloâs more willing to discuss their past, but solely on his terms. Heâs never explained why Feitan is the way he is, or how he views you.Â
âHeâs fond of you, in his own way,â is the most you got out of Chrollo, during a late-night talk. âHeâs just shy.âÂ
âItâs good to see you again, Fei,â Chrollo greets.Â
Feitan nods â his way of returning the sentiment, you reckon. In Chrolloâs absence, youâve learned to interpret his behavior to minimize friction. The deference he has for Chrollo is subtle yet undeniable. Others might misinterpret Feitanâs silence as indifference, but you know better. In Chrolloâs presence, he straightens his posture, giving him rapt attention. He follows any order given by his boss.Â
Especially those regarding you.Â
Ever since that fateful September, Feitan went from a background character in your life to the lead role. He didnât reveal much, just that you wouldnât see âthe bossâ anytime soon, as he needed to âfix things.â York New was a sore subject that you rarely broached. Nearly ten months have passed since youâve last seen Chrollo. Physically, heâs the same. There are bandages wrapped around his forehead, covering his forehead tattoo. Heâs wearing his teal earrings, dark jeans, and a gray v-neck.Â
Seeing him now, itâs almost like nothingâs changed.Â
Almost.Â
âLost in thought, love?â Chrollo wonders.Â
Blinking rapidly, you realize theyâre both staring at you, awaiting an answer.Â
âYouâre⌠youâre back,â is your genius observation.
âI am.âÂ
âYou were⌠um⌠gone,â you fiddle with your fingers, âFor a long time.âÂ
âI was,â he agrees with a smile that doesnât reach his eyes. You see dark circles forming beneath them. âThis entire affair has proven itself tedious. No matter. In a few short days, itâll all be over.âÂ
âThereâs more to take care of?âÂ
He hums, the sound low and somehow eerie. âYou could put it that way. Originally, I was going to wait until after I evened one last score to see you, but impatience got the best of me.âÂ
âAh,â you shift your weight from foot to foot. âThat explains it, then.âÂ
âExplains what, dear?âÂ
âYou seem, I donât know⌠off? Creepy to the second power? Cubed?âÂ
Chrollo gives you a blank stare. Feitanâs hissing something about how you âtalk too much,â his displeasure evident. It dawns on you then that you havenât interacted with Chrollo in so long, itâs possible his tolerance for your nonsense isnât what it once was. Especially considering the state heâs in now. Regret churns your insides as silence fills the air, thickening it like smoke. You think to apologize, only to recall their dislike for insincerity. Feitan never wanted apologies, whereas Chrollo accepted them if proven genuine through a rigorous process.Â
You wince at the sound Chrollo muffles behind his hand.Â
Then, much to your disbelief, it evolves into a chuckle.Â
His shoulders tremble as his eyes turn crescent-shaped, gleaming with mirth. He shakes his head and clears his throat. After a few seconds, he regains control of himself, though his posture is less rigid. This visage aligns better with your memories of him. He liked pretending he was ordinary â almost as much as you liked pretending to believe him.Â
Feitan clicks his tongue. âThis girl⌠always says. Never thinks.âÂ
âYou must admit, itâs a cute habit,â Chrollo says.
To this, Feitan mutters a phrase in his native language, turning his gaze away from you.Â
You cross your arms over your chest. They both had an irritating tendency to talk about you like you werenât present, a pet peeve you hadnât had to deal with in a while. The candidness they displayed made you wonder what they spoke about when you werenât around. A pandoraâs box best left unopened, surely.Â
Chrollo pries one of your hands free to hold in his own. âWords cannot convey how much I missed you."
He follows this admission up by kissing the back of your hand.
â... I canât stick around much longer, Iâm afraid,â he murmurs. âBear with me a while longer.âÂ
Another chaste kiss. After allowing his lips to linger on your skin a while longer, he relinquishes his grip, tucking his hands into his pockets to deter him from further indulgence.Â
Unexpectedly, itâs Feitan who shifts the topic.Â
âBoss,â he speaks, now lurking by your side. âShe watch the fight?âÂ
Furrowing your eyebrows, you glance between them, thrown off by the cryptic language. Truthfully, you donât want to know about whatever it is Chrollo has to do. From what you can glean, itâs likely to involve people getting hurt or dying. Youâve learned the best way to keep your conscience clean is to remain ignorant. If you press on certain issues, Feitan will gleefully overshare gritty details you couldâve gone without.Â
His response is swift and firm. âNo, not this one.âÂ
â... That bad?â Feitan asks. When all Chrollo does is smile, he adds, âHeh. Poor clown.âÂ
Chrolloâs phone vibrates in his pocket. Upon reading the callerâs name, he steps away. âKeep an eye on her for me a while longer, Fei.âÂ
The aforementioned man grunts.Â
Chrollo spares you a long, final look.Â
His lips part, as if he intends to say something, before they shut. Inquisitive, you tilt your head, not used to him hesitating. Heâs always projected this self-assured image â untouchable, near omnipotent. Flaws donât suit him. There's this invisible screen that separates you from men like him and Feitan. Their access to abilities beyond comprehension elevates them, setting them apart.
You prefer it that way. Categorizing them as 'others' is easier than reconciling the fact their more human than infernal.
Eventually, he gives you an unusually reserved smile.Â
"After everything's over, I'll find you."
