Unlocking Cognitive Abilities: A Guide to Unlocking Your Potential
Cognitive abilities refer to a person's mental capabilities and skills related to processing information, problem-solving, memory, learning, and decision-making. These abilities are essential for daily functioning and intellectual development. Assessing cognitive abilities is often done through tests like the Woodcock-Johnson Test, which provides insights into various cognitive functions. As individuals age, certain cognitive abilities may naturally decline, but there are ways to improve and maintain them through practice, lifestyle choices, and technological aids. Understanding cognitive abilities can help identify strengths, weaknesses, and individual differences, impacting areas such as education, communication, and overall well-being

what is an adhd test like? do they like give you a bunch of math questions or something (i've heard that they do that?? or at least used to?) or do they just ask you about your symptoms?
It depends. Some people just ask about your symptoms and history. Others do cognitive testing. My testing involved:
Clinical interview + mental status examination
Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale - IV (WAIS-IV)
Woodcock Johnson IV - Test Of Achievement
Million Clinical Multiaxial Inventory - III
Conners’ Adult ADHD Self-Reported Rating Scales
Conners’ Adult ADHD Observer-Reported Rating Scales
The first item was just an interview lasting about an hour or so. We went over my mental health history, my symptoms now in college, my symptoms growing up, my struggles, etc.
The second item measured four aspects of my cognitive ability: Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual Reasoning, Working Memory, and Processing Speed. People with ADHD tend to have notably lower scores in Working Memory and Processing Speed. They ask you questions that you have to answer on a timer, complete block puzzles, etc.
The third item measures achievement and ability in three categories: Reading, Writing, and Math. They ask you a bunch of math problems, you solve some on a timer, you come up with synonyms for things, finish sentences, etc.
The fourth is just a giant quiz for overall mental health - mine indicated significant levels of ADHD, anxiety, and depression (I have generalized anxiety disorder, along w/ severe recurrent major depressive disorder without psychotic features. Its a long diagnosis to tell you that im depressed but whatever.)
The last two are questionnaires filled out by you and someone close to you  - a parent, a teacher, etc.
Overall, I had a total of 5 appointments for everything. It was a long process, about a month or so until testing was done - another week for the results. Regardless, it was worth it for me, as I was able to get answers for something that had been troubling me my entire life - and opened up doors for me to get the help and support that I need.
