the thing about transforming jack & janet to be worse than they are in canon is that as a hypothetical i do think it can be interesting if it's done thoughtfully (despite all my normal bitching) (i would also be more interested if there was a lot more dick & tim in this scenario but i digress) (also, why doesn't mandated reporter dana ever get hit with the bad parent stick. i love her, but also. share the love here!! if you're gonna transform parents worse, let's at least remember *all* the parents to transform them.) and listen, sometimes people want their specific blorbos in angsty overwrought situations. i get it, i truly do, actually.

unfortunately. tim drake fic without there having to be a line making sure to mention that he was neglected & his mom didn't want to spend time with him is a needle in a haystack. like. even if the fic in question has no reason to be bringing them up. like they have nothing to do with anything there. but there they are, being bad parents. even if they're dead & tim has to be sad and angsty about them it's always a made up "that one time janet didn't want to spend time with her son", not like. you know. the time she got poisoned to death when tim was only 13. or the time tim tried to pull a boomerang out of his dad's chest with his bare hands. and that ubiquitousness of them sucking in 1 particular way that *always without fail* has to be mentioned even if they're dead and not the focus of the fic is what gets tiring (especially when there is genuinely a ton of canon based angst and happenings that are super interesting to explore or could be used instead for angst with literally no change to the fic that you never ever see in favor of "janet's a misogynistic caricature of a refrigerator mother"), not that people want to imagine and explore scenarios where they suck a little worse.

Tina’s pov of purgatory 1 is required reading for fans of ALL teams. So many iconic moments (making the tea originally for Bagi, eating maggots in the snow, taking charge and hiding with Missa and Rivers when Bolas was hunting for easy pickings, her entire conversation with Mariana, her ongoing hatred of Fit, scary dog privileges, the rivalry with Cellbit, GG ninja’s betrayal, I COULD KEEP GOING) are integral to understanding not just SoulFire but purgatory as a whole, all found in her streams.

Plus, the after purgatory party segments hold a special place in my heart. The meta conversations with Tubbo and Bad over what it was like being the most hated team and how it felt for Bad being “the most hated player.” Then later with everyone in the call just playing games while Tina draws the SoulFire co-leaders or joins in herself. The vibes are fantastic and were a great cooldown after the high stress event. I can’t recommend her pov enough.

idk. how I look knowing about 10,000 interesting conversations about Zuko and Azula and sibling abuse dynamics are permanently inaccessible and implausible because any insinuation that Azula ever exhibited abusive behavior will get me 10,000 people in my inbox asking me why I hate her:

nasty that a lot of the fans anti-woobify characters, glossing over the characters that fit those niches they're trying to fill. kind of mixed with people taking what characters say about themselves at face value.

example: cronus. cronus is genuinely a shitty person (i shall spare you the rant, replay openbound) who masquerades as a misunderstood sadboy. people interpret him as a misunderstood sadboy who has some tragic character flaws that seperate him from the group.

i can't list how many homestuck characters have tragic lives and are isolated somewhat through their own tragically shitty personalities and who aren't awful people.

people often make dirk a hell of a lot worse than he is. yeah, he's a dick, but he could probably hold a job at mcdonalds. the extent of his mental illness is not that great, overlooking characters who are genuinely fucked in the head, like vriska. i could go on about how the fandom associates vriska characteristics with dirk, characteristics that he doesn't have.

even when these traits aren't mistaken throughout characters, the fanon interpretation is often a lot more serious and edgy then the characters actually are. the fandom tends to forget that a core part of homestuck is that the characters are all young.

hussie likely imagined that homestuck OG (first 2 acts) would be seen only by adults that knew him personally, and it was a story about goofy 13 year olds. it was for a very long time, and even at the end of the comic, the characters are still young.

they're teens. of course they're going to misinterpret events in they're life. they're going to think they're more important, more intelligent, more fucked up, and more isolated then they really are.

[Hardcore] Aaron, Nicky and Seth fans gotta be some of the most annoying ppl in the aftg fandom Oh my god. Not as bad as the pr0shippers ofc but the way they will defend bigotry/homophobia and sexual assault/harassment & predatory behaviour SO HARD is so gross & insufferable. So many of these tropes bug me but I think the worst is the c!Quackity woobification. So many c!fiances fics basically reduce his character to an abuse survivor in need of saving, painting him as timid and toothless, which feels so disrespectful and also boring as hell... like bro if you're gonna write him at all don't erase the fact that he's capable of seriously heinous shit 💀 don't do my nightmare man like that come on

on one hand I get that people would like to see him be coddled and loved on the other it becomes concerning when that's all there is ever written to him

oh, skrael sous vide is one of my favorite concepts: ye olde hotsprings episode!! (part 1/1 billion)

i've had the hc for a long time of early-days skrael walking in on bellroc bathing in a hotspring. it establishes their cultural differences; gets bellroc good and flustered (top tier imaginary scenario); it also sets up an excuse to let me expose a lot of self-indulgent worldbuilding, explaining WHY they got so flustered (it's not being seen naked). but walking in on them was a genuine accident, even if it sets off several of their ridiculous ancient victorian hangups. he'd only seen one once or twice, before! there aren't many in the area bellroc grew up in, but more than that. plus i enjoy the thought that they just have a knack for finding them. let them be comfy! my continued cartoon side villain agenda.

so. anyway, after some time passes, after they patch things up some: they're roaming around again, and it's getting cooler out, and they've found. well. okay, he's kind of a jackass. but—they do like having him around. he's funny, he knows fucking magic!!, he's a huge bitch sometimes and sometimes weirdly generous. he looks so strange and other but he's such a person beneath that. they're not stupid, even in those days; they know he's cold, that he's cold-themed, they know his wrists and ankles or the break in his leg gets sore. so the next time they find a hotspring, they invite him to come in with them.
