Side Note To Fan Fic Authors

Here’s the thing.

I read a lot of scripts.  A lot.  From professionals to aspiring writers to complete newbies.  Features and pilots.  Specs and treatments.

And 8 times out of 10 the fan fic that I’ve read over the last, oh, 15 years is leagues better than this stuff.  It’s more inspired.  It’s more compelling.  It’s genre bending and creative and heartfelt.  It’s well-paced and intense and funny and sexy and meaningful.  It’s smart and thoughtful and good.  It’s novel-quality.  Better than, sometimes.

Rare is the script I don’t want to put down, but how often have we stayed up until 3am to get to the last chapter of a 100k fic? And it’s not even a fan fic author’s day job.  This is what they do on the side.  In their spare time.  For free.

So my point is, fan fic authors, you’re good.  You’re good writers and great storytellers.  I know it doesn’t always feel like it, especially if you’re one of the authors who’s not a BNF and doesn’t get the notes/hits that a few do.  And  because some people still view fic as “not real writing.” You guys know the shit that gets made into movies.  You’re better than that.  So be better than that.  If writing is what you think want to do, then just know you’re already doing it.   You’ve already started.

And you’re more talented than you might think.

• ReBoot (90s cartoon from my childhood, the visuals are dated but nostalgic as hell to me. 11/10 recommend.)

• Transformers: Prime (10/10 recommend)

• One Piece (re-watching from Dressrosa, god it's so good. 11/10 recommend.)

2 ; OUGHH, okay, so thanks to a near 5 hour long tangent with my lovely Rye ( @laidenbreecatchall ) , I've worked out some kinks with my self-insert and I'm slowly working on some backstory and power type things that hopefully will be posted about sometime this year. I'm planning on giving her a reboot as well, physically. We're going to have two main versions - Kid Pirate and Heart Pirate. 🤭🤭🤭

3 ; A few fic recs, ough I could recommend so many from my amazing mutuals, but these three I've been thinking about non-stop the past while.

• This Killer piece from @fanaticsnail , I love Killer so much it's not even funny, this man had taken over my frontal lobe like a parasite, and i am NOT complaining at all !! >:)

• Funny enough, also one from you - All your Marco writings fill me with an ache and a longing for this man every single time you post about him, but this one ?? Ohhhhh my lanta. He can have me, any time, any day, any where.

• now, this piece from @thus-spoke-lo has rattled around my little noggin since she posted it. Everything Lo writes is just 💋🤌 chefs' kiss, but this one ?? 👀 woof. An entire meal. Ace has also been running around my frontal lobe a lot lately… he knows he can get it. He doesn't even have to ask. He just gives me those big ol eyes of his, and im already melting, in more ways than one 🤭🤭

HONOURABLE MENTION ; for my bestie Cin ( @sheerxfiction ) who wrote this absolutely gushy, soft, sweet and yearn-y Shachi piece bc at the end of the day, Shachi is always going to be my lova 🥺🥺🥺 oughhh I gotta go reread this !!! *runs off*

4 ; ohhh god, okay, i don't think ive shown anyone this yet other than Rye (as far as I remember), I did this last year and never got around to finishing it but this was one I did of my self-insert (in her Heart Pirate era, clearly 😂😂) i am NOT an artist, I am a writer but I know I won't get better as a artist if I don't keep drawing so 😣😣 here you gooo

Again, lots of changes to be made - i don't know if I want to keep the split dye, i think I want to keep the tie-dye boiler suit but... we will see !! Her weapon is gunna stay the same, took inspiration from The Walking Dead (Neegan was such an interesting villan), also I can't draw baseball bats, but I tried. Did i pull it from my memory instead of looking up a picture ? I sure did. We're not gunna talk about it 😂😂😂
