A day to honour ourselves and each other to celebrate and take a stand for equality. A day where we get to embrace the diversity of what it means to be a woman. . Women rising together in both our feminine and masculine. For ourselves, for others, for the past, present and future. . Together we rise. Blessed to have a voice. It is our responsibility to use it. . Happy International Women’s Day! . Today I honoured and celebrated with a woman of our future. . “Miss Ile de France (region of Paris) was never my dream but it became one as I realized what it could mean for women of colour to represent beauty in a supposedly “white” region.” These were the words of Meggy Pyaneeandee ( @meggypndoff ) when she spoke of her election as a representative for the region of Paris in Miss France 2016. Meggy, who grew up in the hood of Paris (in the suburb of Paris) has always had one dream and that is to get into a prestigious university, excel and help educate other children in the hood as she believes education is the only way out for people who are not part of the elite. Born to Mauritian immigrants who moved to Paris when they were just 20, Meggy witnessed firsthand the hardships of living in the hood and as her parents never got the opportunity for higher education, their dream was to get Meggy the best education they could. Meggy through ambition and positive action got into Sciences Po – one of the most prestigious universities in France which used to be restricted to the elite. This was the first step to reaching her goals as she got the opportunity to live and work in New York for a year which was on her dream board. With Meggy set on getting the best grades in the field of Marketing, she never thought of contesting for a beauty pageant. That was until she chanced upon French journalist, Francois Durpaire who made her understand that her personality would make a great difference as no one has a story like hers. Then Meggy realized that representing beauty for the region of Paris as a woman of colour would not only empower women like her but it would also encourage the children in the hood to dream bigger. Think I'm about 5 yrs old in this photograph. An innocent child, already subjected to bullying, who had no idea the twists and turns her wee life would take. She was bullied, ridiculed for being bright and beautiful and made fun of if she dared to embrace her unique & quirky ways. No wonder, then, that she learned how to dull that shine, hide her inner wisdom and use sarcasm and humour to keep people at bay. This is a letter I wrote to her at the beginning of this year. A very personal letter to my inner child so that she felt heard, understood and her fear was acknowledged. "Sweetheart, it's OK. It really is. You're safe and loved and wonderful. God gave you all your gifts to make life fun, interesting and joyful. You no longer need to hide your light from the world. I'm here by your side ALWAYS. Let's discover what wonderful things are out there together. We can have fun while we learn. And let's find a space in our hearts to forgive those who tried to dim our light and keep us small. Let's live the rest of our lives wholeheartedly with kindness at it's core. Now is our time to replenish joy." If we are to move on and embrace who we really are, we have to face the reasons why we are holding ourselves back. This was a massive step for me. Really being able to look my younger self in the eye, feel her sad, fearful energy and then find a way to bring her on this journey with me. But I have too. I want to. I'm nearly 52 years old now and I want the rest of my life to be happy, fun and full of new experiences but I can't do that if this little soul is still inside me pulling me to retreat from being seen. So come on my beautiful angel, take my hand, you're safe with me. We've got some really exciting work to do........🤝👩‍👧👧💚💙💜🧡 #innerchild #womenrisingtogether #bettertogether #enoughalready #communityofempoweredwomen https://ift.tt/2m9flUf

Julie Nixon was educated in the United Kingdom before immigrating to South Africa in the late 1980’s. After undergoing extensive Retail Management courses with a leading retail chain, Julie utilised her broad experience in sales, merchandising and human resource courses to streamline the Gone Rural operations. Julie arrived at Gone Rural in 2005 to take on the position of Workshop Manager and was promoted to General Manager in 2007 with new responsibilities including Sales, Human Resource courses, and Logistics. As head of sales, Julie oversaw a one hundred parent sales increase in three years which in turn quadrupled the women’s income during the same period. Julie due to her successes was given the position of Chair Person for the “Swazi Secrets” (a women’s empowerment company started by Her Majesty the Queen Mother) where she served a two-year term. While chairing this organisation, Julie realised that though artisans in Swaziland are hardworking and talented, they do not make much income. This led her to start a fair-trade organisation called Swaziland Fair Trade - SWIFT (@swazilandfairtrade) which ensures that supply chains are fair while creating opportunities for fair wages at grass roots level. Julie is passionate, dedicated and committed to improving the lives of the people of Swaziland and has managed to secure a grant for a three-year capacity building project for handcrafters in Swaziland. If you are planning on starting any organisation, here are 7 effective strategies you can learn from Julie Nixon. . Sometimes, people call my way of speaking ranting. Why are you always ranting and screaming, they ask. But here’s the thing…the reason why I rant is because I am a voice for many women that cannot speak out to heads of state, UN officials, and those that influence systems of oppression. And so I rant. And I will not stop ranting until my mission of equality of all girls is achieved. . Hey beautiful woman, Leymah Gbowee says"It's Time for Women to Stop Being Politely Angry". Uh-huh! I totally agree. Many of us are angry and bitter because we have been raised to believe that wanting more from life is wrong but I'm here today to tell you that it is okay to want more from life. It is okay to dislike mediocrity and seek adventure every single day. It really is okay to want to pursue a career in the business world. It is okay to want to be a stay at home mom. It is okay to travel the world solo. It really is okay my beautiful woman. Your being true to yourself and loving yourself is what will help you love others; raise amazing children and being submissive to that amazing man. Your being able to fulfill your destiny and pursue your dreams is what will bring joy in your home as you'd be happy every single day. Your being able to see the world and learn about different cultures are lessons you can instill in your Children to help them appreciate diversity. Your being in touch with your inner self and spirituality is what will brighten each day as you will glow. So my beautiful beautiful beautiful woman. It is alright ok. So alright to be your beautiful unique self. You're AWESOME!!! . #beboldforchange #unwomen #IWD #helpmakeadifference #GlobalGoals #internationalwomensday #IWD2017 #womenempowerment #womenrising #womenrisingtogether #womensrightsarehumanrights
