March is National Women’s History Month! In 1980, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter proclaimed “Women’s History Week” during the month of March to coincide with International Women’s Day. Seven years later in 1987, the U.S. Congress passed legislation that declared the celebration to encompass the entire month of March. National Women’s History Month was established to commemorate and encourage the study, observation, and celebration of the vital role women have played and continue to play in American history. ⠀

International Women’s Day is a global celebration that takes place on Sunday, March 8, 2020, the same day clocks in the U.S. spring forward for Daylight Savings Time. Is this coincidental? I think not! Women of all ethnicities, races, and religions in the 21st century have been afforded great access to the educational, personal, and professional development tools to propel ourselves forward and make the future bright for ourselves and future generations of women yet to be born. ⠀
