tuesday again 2/27/2024
this is the longest ive ever been unemployed and media is only doing so much to beat back the horrors. so let’s talk about the media instead of the horrors
listening
Come Up For Air by We The Commas, off i think one of the autogenerated spotify indie mixes?
youtube
sort of a rollicking modern little surf rock thing, they describe themselves as "surf and alternate rhythm and blue" which is pretty bang on imo. they're all brothers (their last name genuinely is Comma, which i salute as a fellow weird last name haver), and cite john mayer (i don't really hear it) and the beach boys (yes i hear this very much) as some of their influences. a song i had on loop for an entire forty minute drive and did not get tired of. spotify
-
reading
Tumblr media
three books that MUST go back to the library tomorrow bc their autorenew is up and i was emotionally unable to get a library card without tooling around and getting a stack of books a month ago.
Tumblr media
thank you philip.
i really only liked the Carmilla adaptation by Amy Chu, bc it really gets at what i didn't realize was the heart of the original 1872 lesbian vampire novella: a toxic gay housing situation you have fallen into and can't get out of bc your area is so so so expensive and housing is so so so tenuous. i have read the original but not in a while, this is an excellent modern adaptation centering around a nyc social worker in the late seventies that presupposes no knowledge and intertwines the original novella in the form of a stolen rare book. (nonconsecutive pages)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i don't have much to say about the DC young adult comic about the circus career of one of the Robins (Dick Grayson). i didn't love the loose artstyle and am not in its intended age range plus it had a bit too much therapyspeak, but it did have a clever use of a very limited color palette.
let's yank the amazon description for the detective novel, which i grabbed bc it vaguely pinged something in my brain about one of the fallout 4 sidequests and i've picked books up for worse reasons (SPOILERS):
Jacob Rigolet, a soon-to-be former assistant to a wealthy art collector, looks up from his seat at an auction—his mother, former head librarian at the Halifax Free Library, is walking almost casually up the aisle. Before a stunned audience, she flings an open jar of black ink at master photographer Robert Capa’s “Death on a Leipzig Balcony.” Jacob’s police detective fiancée, Martha Crauchet, is assigned to the ensuing interrogation.
i simply fucking hated this authorial style and tone and ditched it two chapters in. i don’t currently have the patience for reading about a clinically insane mother and hate crimes against Jewish people. despite the fairly dark premise, the first two chapters veer into cozy mystery with very short sentences, which do not a noir make. now, it does not advertise itself as noir or neo-noir, but as an homage to noir. it is for me unbearably smug. in my most unkind heart of hearts i want to say it's like if wes anderson tried to make a noir. this is a book that wants you to know it has read other noirs. yes thank you ive read several others, that’s why im reading this one, stop reminding me of better books i could be reading.
there's some weird descriptions of womens' bodies in here. chandler (my beloved) is certainly guilty of this as well, but he lavishes a sort of equal opportunity eye on the men in his mysteries. cf the infamous daniel lavery description.
Tumblr media
when i read a chandler description of someone’s physical appearance there’s a fruity bisexual aftertaste in my mouth. Howard Norman, below, saying a woman takes great care of herself puts my hackles up. i understand the difference between an author and a character believing something and i don’t want to read a book where either the author or the character have this sort of pitying condescension towards a woman’s body. im feeling extremely terrible about my own body right now due to the various maladies, and another sort of breaking point for me is when an author repeatedly describes "naked breasts" (exact wording) pressing against someone's torso. it feels so juvenile. that's the sexiest thing you can possibly think of??? that's the sexiest way you can think of to describe an early mornign moment of intimacy???? augh i read the NYT review and it gets worse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
shut the FUCK up. i left my apartment at 1130 PM to go put this book in my CAR. i don't want it in my HOUSE.
-
watching
Tumblr media
Bullitt (1968, dir. Yates, free on Tubi). the baddie in this is Robert Vaughn (who i know from cowboys), a guy i fucking love to see. i can take or leave Steve McQueen but he does such a killer job parallel parking in this movie and i wish all driving movies made their leads parallel park. shockingly realistic hospital, morgue, and police work scenes, apparently was one of the big films to popularize blood squibs. also love to see a haunted man splash water on his face and stare into a mirror.
youtube
if you asked me how long the famous car chase was i would have said like 2:30? substantial but snappy. no!!! eleven minutes!! (video a bit trimmed). also a rare movie that makes a foot chase through an airport as exciting as that eleven minute car chase!!!
the mob dodging plot was a little hard to follow, but i was operating on like four hours of sleep and a rum and coke. this has got to be a tremendous movie to watch when you’re home and sick on the couch huddled under a blanket. i mean this as a compliment, as someone who watches Escape from New York whenever i feel very sick

Tumblr media
really wanted to get to 69 shrines before writing this post and finally did it. all the little divine beasts walking along the loading screen are SO cute i've never gotten all four before
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
all the divine beasts are unlocked and the champions laid to rest! im feeling some type of way emotionally speaking about all of them telling link IMMEDIATELY that it wasn't his or zelda's fault they died
Tumblr media Tumblr media
rudania has the worst boarding mission (in order of ones i most enjoyed it's camel [SO fast and SO fun], bird [lots of time to think and plan and aim], elephant [did not make me do a tedious stealth mission but i am bad at locking on to rapidly moving things behind me, much like in real life], and lizard. the lizard stealth mission is simply unpleasant). however, my brain really clicked with the puzzles in rudania: i had to consult a walkthrough once for an optional chest. in order of interior beast puzzle enjoyment for me it's lizard, bird, elephant, and camel. really got stuck for a long time on the waterwheels with the elephant before consulting a walkthrough.
Tumblr media
the yiga clan stealth mission was not as hard as i thought it would be. i don't know why i put that off for two real life weeks but i will not learn my lesson and i will never improve. this boss battle was just silly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the vah naboris interior puzzles were not fun. idk what it was about them or my brain that made me have such a bad time, but i spammed revali's gale and skipped a lot of chests bc i was not having fun. this is why god invented the walkthrough but sometimes. shit is just too fiddly.
i did succeed on the thunder ganon boss battle first try, but i came in with extra hearts from mipha's grace, used another mipha's grace in the fight, went through five fairies and seven hearty simmered fruits that were 5x durians (which gives you 20 extra hearts or some shit). fucking nightmare. i was stuck on one hit left on ganon for like five minutes bc he got stuck in the very fast flurry attack cycle. unpleasant. deeply grateful it only made me smack him with the magnesis pillar once bc that was also really fiddly with my poor reaction time + poor fine motor skills + previously mentioned ancient controller with some drift. in order of boss battle enjoyment i think it's lizard (made me think and kept me on my toes a little but i did have to look up how to break the shield), elephant (you can just kind of tank it), bird (same), and camel (extremely not fun).
Tumblr media
this was WITH a fully upgraded gimp suit btw. that shit (ganon) just hits hard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
shrine shenanigans:
crowned beast very fun, i have one or two of kass' songs left and then i hope i get to see him back in rito village with his family??? a little nervous bc i went right to the jungle spring without hearing his song first so idk if that will. count??? or softlock me.
the MOUNDS of failed cooking attempts around this shrine on the grasslands side of the gerudo barrier mountains were SO funny.
unlocked all the spring shrines. what a fun mission. what a fun climb.
went to my FAVORITE shrine!!! going into what you think will be a normal cave and discovering it is DEEP with a BIG WHALE INSIDE is top three video game whale moments (the other two are diving with the whales in ABZU and meeting the last whale in the first dishonored).
other bits and bobs:
Tumblr media
eggman rocks???
Tumblr media
this quest was really cute and i wish there was a corresponding quest for the guy hanging around the broken heart pond, but it always makes me laugh whenever a dragon shows up in the background of a screenshot. a really great touching moment but watch out for the elemental orbs rapidly approaching us
Tumblr media
also made me chortle. get it together barta.
Tumblr media
i wish the helm was upgradable but i think making me kill a molduga in order to borrow it is a pretty fair trade actually.
-
making
i originally had a really long thing here about litterbox trials and tribulations but i have decided to spare you all. you're welcome.
many balcony improvements, including putting up trellises and installing bird spikes to hopefully keep a very persistent orange tom off my balcony and away from my girls.
there are a goofy number of obstacles in the way of me making a proper planting diagram (sketchbooks buried deep in closet. flung the seeds in a box on a shelf i need to find my stepstool for. can't find pencil sharpener) so for the second week in a row that's not happening. however, sprouts.
Tumblr media
baby italian lettuce blend
Tumblr media
bush beans in the front and cucumbers + sweet peas in the back.

ABOUT.
Name: Stephanie Zagitova Nicknames: Stevie Age: Twenty-six Date of Birth: 15th April 1998 Birthplace: Anaheim, California Occupation: Social Media Manager Romantic/Sexual Orientation: Heteroromantic/Heterosexual
Stevie is the daughter of a famous polish hockey player. Her dad devoted part of his life to Anaheim's hockey team, the Ducks.
Her mother is a former first-generation polish-american actress.
Stevie grew up on the ice, watching her dad playing and being a star, but also, trying to make a career out of her own name in figure skating. Unfortunately, due to an injury during her teenage years, she had to quit the sport; however, her love for ice sports never faded.
Her whole life was in the west coast; since birth to college graduation and her first job. Her major was Marketing, knowing damn well she wanted to work within the sports area. Nonetheless, her first job in marketing was wayyyy too far from her dream: she did the whole marketing part for a dental clinic.
Her first job in the sports industry was being the social media manager for a amateur women's hockey team from her hometown. It was not really a job, she was a volunteer, actually...; Howerver, if she never took the chance to volunteer, she wouldn't be in NYC right now.
Stevie got a random call on a random tuesday from a New York number, it was weird at first, she didn't remember knowing anyone from the state. A certain hockey team wanted her to do their socials. She was shook. She was making her big move, not only to the East but also to the NHL.
It's been an year since that big chance and Stevie still has the job as New York Islander's social media manager.
Usually, you can find Stephanie walking around with a film camera or a caramel latte.
She is the known as "the little duckling" at her job, never hiding her true love for her hometown's hockey team.
She did compete at some major figure skating events during her childhood, but never talks about them.
Tried to hide her real indentity for years, not wanting to be associated to her parents by any meaning. She just didnt want to get to places because of a name and a fame.
Major booknerd!! Always carring a book in her purse.

TDOV '23
Out My Closet celebrated Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV '23) the best way that we know how, by supporting our TGNC community with imperative resources that they need to thrive.
📣 New Benchmark 📣: For the first time in OMC's history, we conducted TWO EVENTS concurrently, one in New York City and the other in Miami, Florida. Both organizations that we supported are lead by Black Transgender Women, Brooklyn G.H.O.S.T Project and Empower U.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is no other organization like OMC in the nation. OMC supports the livelihood of its clients and reduces new HIV infections as well as supports HIV care and treatment.
Because of lack of access to opportunities, transwomen engage in sex-work. OMC helps offers coordination of care to clinics that support sex-work and that are sex-positive, in addition having resources help reduce the quantity of times an individual may engage in sexual acts to obtain money for quality resources.

BTS of our Miami pop-up shop.
Our clothing resources support vocational readiness for interviews and boosts self-esteem and morale. OMC’s collaborative pop-ups entice clients to engage with services. OMC additionally offers clients a SAFE SPACE to access clothing resources, they do not have to be ashamed or fearful of trying on clothing that suits their size, style and identity.

Like OMC, having marginalized groups lead the movement (BIPOC/QUEER/YOUTH), gives voice to the needs of the served population. Thank you to our donors, our volunteers, Team OMC and most important, the transgender lives that choose authenticity each day, we see you and love you.

The Classical Side of the Mournful Morning
As tower and fortress fall, we watch with disbelieving stare and numbly hear the anguished cries that pierce the ash-filled air. Carl Daw
It is said that if all words fail, music speaks, and nothing expresses the emotions felt during and after September 11, 2001, known to me as The Mournful Morning.
Hence this Spotify playlist I crafted.
The playlist commences with an excerpt from Michael Gordon's piece from The Sad Park, written for string quartet and electronics. While Gordon personally saw the plane hit the South Tower of the former Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan, millions more heard about what he witnessed via news reports or - in my case as a 6th grader - principals who relayed the news on their school intercoms.
While I was at school, my DPs and DGPs were in the waiting room of the chemo clinic. They thought the news footage of the attacks was a made-for-TV disaster film, but they realized that it was tragically anything but. They found out after my late DGF's chemo session that the Twin Towers were no more.
Tumblr media
Taken by my DF, 1/1997.
Then, it segues into Mrs M. E. Her Funeral Tears for the Death of her Husband. This short 17th century song cycle by John Danyel evokes the disbelief and sorrow of the wives whose husbands on the planes that struck the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and a rural field in PA phoned their last words to them mid-air on their cell or GTE Airfones. The lyrics evoke the emotions the widows-to-be felt on the receiving end of those phone conversations, then on terra firma.
For great effect, I used three separate countertenors for each track of the cycle: Iestyn Davies and Michael and Alexander Chance, in that order.
Leopold Stokowski's arrangement of JS Bach's adagio from BWV 564 evokes the passengers on Flight 93 raiding the cockpit in which the hijackers steered the plane en route to the US Capitol or the White House. They succeeded in thwarting their plans, but not without crashing in the said field in PA, killing all onboard.
Tumblr media
Taken 6/1/2019.
The arrangement segues into the alto aria of Cantata BWV 198, sung by Charles Brett. It honors the female first responders who died at Ground Zero in NYC as well as the female flight attendants (especially Betty Ong, who served passengers on AA Flight 11 and notified the AA reservations center of the hijacking) and passengers who helped thwart hijackers' plans to crash UA Flight 93 into the Capitol or the White House. Fittingly, the lyrics are translated as:
How contentedly the heroine died! How courageously her spirit struggled As death's arm overcame her, Before he conquered her breast.
And we are talking about several heroines here.
Moving onto the Classical Era, the final movement of the WA Mozart Requiem and the dirge from the Ludwig Van Beethoven Eroica Symphony honor the friar and first victim of the WTC attacks, Mychal Judge. Barbara Bonney's rendition of Franz Schubert's Ave Maria - per the German text - evokes the thoughts of the women trapped in the rubble of the former Twin Towers, struggling to live.
For those who didn't make it, the English translation of one movement of Johannes Brahms's German Requiem (upon which Barbara Buehlman masterfully arranged it for concert band), the funeral march from Frederic Chopin's second piano sonata, Edward Elgar's "Nimrod" from Enigma Variations make fitting tributes to them.
Remo Giazotto's Adagio in G minor, based on a lost manuscript of one of Tomaso Albinoni's church sonatas, makes one imagine a slew of church services that immediately followed after the attacks. Samuel Barber's Agnus Dei (performed by VOCES8) and Vladimir Vavilov's Ave Maria (sung by Libera) evoke Catholics' prayers through the intercession of the Virgin Mary in that time of of great death and anxiety as well as the happy repose of the souls.
Tumblr media
Taken 6/1/2019.
As the playlist nears its end, mourning continues to morph into hope through Eric Ewazen's concert band work, A Hymn for the Lost and the Living. More rays of hope shine as it segues on to Howard Goodall’s choral anthem, Spared. Reeling from both his NJ friend Brian Aschinger’s death by cancer in August 2001 and the horrific sights he saw in Manhattan while en route to film a segment of his documentary, Great Dates, that next month, he wrote it in memory of the victims.
Tumblr media
Taken 6/1/2019.
John Rutter's The Lord Bless You and Keep You has listeners evoke the 1-year-anniversary memorial services and Masses being held, resolve strengthened and victims remembered. Charles Ives's Variations on America represent the increased patriotism after that dark chapter in US history. Finally, Richard Goldman’s and Robert Leist's concert band arrangement of the Gravement from Bach's Fantasia in G Major, BWV 572, reinforces the strengthened sense of patriotism, all the while representing the ascension of innocent souls who entered eternal rest on that tragic day.
It's best to listen with a Spotify Premium account. If you have the free one, take the time to mute after each track in case an ad pops up, just to preserve the solemnity of this playlist.
May all the souls who perished on this day in 2001 rest in peace.

Infertility can be a deeply emotional journey for many couples, but advances in medical science have opened up new possibilities for those struggling to conceive. If you’re searching for “hormone therapy infertility treatment near me,” you’ve come to the right place. At Bioidentical Hormones NYC, we specialize in personalized hormone therapy solutions that have helped countless individuals and couples achieve their dreams of parenthood.
Tumblr media
Understanding Hormone Imbalances and Infertility
Hormonal imbalances are often at the root of many fertility challenges. Hormones play a crucial role in regulating the reproductive system, and any disruption in their levels can lead to difficulties in conception. For women, conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid issues, and irregular menstrual cycles can be linked to hormonal imbalances, while men may experience low testosterone levels, affecting sperm production.
Hormone therapy works by addressing these imbalances, ensuring the body is in the best possible condition for conception. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is a cutting-edge approach that uses hormones identical to those naturally produced by the body, offering a safe and effective way to restore balance and improve fertility.
How Hormone Therapy Can Help
Hormone therapy for infertility treatment is designed to help both men and women. For women, it can regulate ovulation and menstrual cycles, increase progesterone levels to support early pregnancy, and treat conditions like PCOS and endometriosis, which can hinder conception. For men, hormone therapy can boost testosterone levels, enhancing sperm production and overall reproductive health.
At Bioidentical Hormones NYC, our approach is completely personalized. We begin with an in-depth assessment of your hormone levels and overall health. This allows us to develop a tailored hormone therapy plan designed specifically for your body and reproductive goals. We take pride in offering compassionate care, guiding you through every step of the process to ensure the best outcomes.
Why Choose Bioidentical Hormones NYC for Infertility Treatment?

Constantly in a state of unsureness, non-judgmental unsureness, but unsure nonetheless.
Unsure about what? -Whats next?- where am I going? what type of job am I now wanting to find? is it something related to mental health or is it completely different? Do I apply to remote positions again, something that will pay more? If I were to apply and get a remote position- would I want to lesson my hours at PF but stay there for human interaction? What field would I want to apply to for remote work? So everything surrounding work.
-I'm (rightfully) worried about burn out. I know that a large portion of people who experience real/true clinical burn out feel like they've gone through healing and hop into stuff again only to become EVEN MORE burned out than they were before... I don't want that. I am genuinely afraid of that. I do not want my mind and body and soul to feel the way I did again.
-For the first time in YEARS I have very lightly considered the idea of a partner. VERY LIGHTLY VERY BRIEFLY. And the uncertainty surrounding that of -okay but literally men suck. and then there's talking to people and interacting with people and going on dates with people ALL WHILE I AM STILL COVID CONSCIOUS. and currently have no healthcare and my last vaccine was now over a year ago. so... And then theres the fact that I have been on dates while I was living at my parents house, and it is just very uncomfortable. I am very private with my family when it comes to dating and relationships, especially my parents. If I find the energy and time to leave, I have to explain where I'm going and who I will be going with. obviously I could lie but that's not the point. so unsure about dating in general/unsure about even wanting a partner in general. And then there's the thought of 'well why does it have to be a man?' and then I entertain that thought for a moment and think about how I enjoy masculine features and things the cis male body brings and then I think about how if I'm fine now having none of those things for YEARS and YEARS then why the fuck would it matter? And then I think about what I even find attractive in women and then the thought just fizzles and my brain is already done with inner dialogue and is ready to move onto something else.
-Then there's uncertainty about concerts. Which sounds fucking ridiculous, but concerts are my hobby. I can't buy tickets to my hobby when I don't know where I will be. Sure, I could travel long distances to attend said concerts but fucking christ it is so expensive. I like driving, I enjoy driving but like NYC/NJ is over 10 hours of straight driving for me. I would be going by myself. A plane ride from MI to NY is easily $600. Chicago is a train ride away- about 5? hours I think. Atlanta I think is closer to 15 hours away by car. I cant buy tickets for future events because I dont know where I'll be. My mom is sure I'll still be here in July (there's an artist actually coming to Detroit in July) so she feels like I could buy tickets for them. But then there are other groups who havent announced their dates and I would much rather see these other artists.
-I'm reading a book about Burnout and there's so much unknown while reading. I like to read and process and ponder and sometimes I jot down notes, I'm trying to relate it to my life and learn from it that way, but then again I'm thinking like "if its so easy to do these things, and I've done several of them, how did I get the way I did?" and several other questions like that (^that question kind of has an answer, it just wasnt the best fit obviously and that's okay, but just an example as I'm word vomiting)
I'm not stuck like I was a year+ ago (It'll have been a year since I quit my job in LITERALLY A WEEK), but I feel like I'm still stuck in the way that I STILL don't know what's next. I have ABSOLUTELY needed this time to heal from burn out, and have been so fortunate enough to be able to take this time and dip my toe into the world of working again. AND the indecision is difficult to live in. Especially in the current economy. That's another state of unknown and concern.

Breast Implants NYC
Aesthetic Freedom: Why Many Women Choose Breast Implant Surgery
As more and more women are flocking to Breast Implants NYC clinics, it's evident that breast implant surgery has become a popular choice for those seeking aesthetic enhancements.
The decision to undergo breast implant surgery is a deeply personal one, often rooted in a desire for self-expression, confidence, and a sense of empowerment.
Tumblr media
In this exploration, we delve into the multifaceted reasons why many women choose breast implant surgery as a transformative journey, breaking free from conventional beauty norms and embracing their bodies on their terms.
Embracing Confidence and Self-Esteem
A significant motivator for women considering breast implant surgery is the desire to enhance confidence and self-esteem.  Breast augmentation offers a path to achieving a more proportionate and balanced figure, addressing any feelings of dissatisfaction with natural breast size or shape.
Tumblr media
The physical transformation that comes with breast implants often translates to a boost in self-confidence, positively influencing various aspects of a woman's life, from personal relationships to professional endeavors.
Reclaiming Femininity and Body Symmetry
For some women, breast implant surgery is a means of reclaiming their sense of femininity. Changes in breast volume and shape due to factors like pregnancy, weight loss, or aging can impact how a woman perceives her femininity.
Breast implants provide a customizable solution to restore and enhance natural contours, offering a renewed sense of balance and symmetry that aligns with personal beauty ideals.
Addressing Developmental Asymmetry or Breast Deformities
Breast implant surgery serves as a solution for women dealing with developmental asymmetry or congenital breast deformities. These conditions may cause uneven breast development, leading to feelings of self-consciousness.
Breast augmentation allows for a tailored approach to address these asymmetries, empowering women to achieve a more harmonious and aesthetically pleasing breast appearance.
Post-Mastectomy Reconstruction
Breast implant surgery plays a crucial role in the journey of women who have undergone mastectomy due to breast cancer. It offers an opportunity to reclaim their bodies and restore a sense of normalcy.
Placing Breast implant under muscle allows survivors to regain aspects of their pre-surgery appearance, offering a natural breast appearance, contributing significantly to emotional healing and self-empowerment.
Lifestyle and Fashion Choices
Aesthetic freedom extends beyond physical transformation; it encompasses lifestyle and fashion choices.  Breast implant surgery enables women to enjoy a broader range of clothing options and styles, allowing them to confidently express their individuality.
Many women enjoy embracing new fashion trends and feeling comfortable in swimwear, lingerie, and various outfits that complement their enhanced figures.
The Decision-Making Process
The decision to undergo breast implant surgery is not made lightly. Women contemplating this procedure engage in thorough research, consultations with experienced surgeons, and open discussions about their goals and expectations.
Making an informed decision ensures that the chosen procedure aligns with personal values, desires, and overall well-being.

NYC Marathon: Part 1
9 months isn’t too late for a race recap, right? I had the honor this past November of racing the NYC Marathon for the Brave Like Gabe Organization. NYC was another race that I had registered for in 2020. NYRR did a beautiful job, allowing me to chose which of the 3 following years you’d like to defer your registration to, receive a refund, or donate your fee. I didn’t want to run the year after the pandemic. I didn’t think NYC would be back to full force and I guessed right. 2022 returned the field size to 50,000 runners, many of them apart of the 2020 deferral group. I was hoping my 2:59 in Duluth would get me into the sub-elite field. Even the individual who responded to my submission said I had a very good chance of getting in. But it turns out everyone else who ran fast had the same idea. No fancy pre-race treatment for me. Oh well.
While training for Grandma’s I had sustained some sort of knee injury. It had been manageable during the remainder of my build but once I started ramping up for NYC, it came back with vengeance. Due to my insurance and my fall clinical schedule, I wasn’t able to seek any medical care so I gutted it out. (I know, as someone who working in sport medicine I should practice what I preach, but at this point in my life I was surviving day by day.) Luckily NYC was about raising money for BLG and getting to the finish line. I gave myself a very abbreviated build up, running just enough miles to know I would finish the race. I was hoping to raise around $500 but made my fundraising goal $1000 after seeing what the other 14 or so ladies were hoping to raise. Members of the group were from all over the country and Puerto Rico. All of us were inspired by the wonderful human being who was Gabe Grunewald. Though I have no ties to Gabe, I became very invested in her during the last few years of her life. Her husband selflessly shared her final days with the world and I sobbed at the news of her passing.
When thinking of what organization to raise money for, I wanted a small group that I would feel confident in. With BLG I knew all of the money was truly all going to rare cancer research. Once I received word back from the organization, I was on a zoom call with the executive director. She shared what others were doing to raise money, what the expectations were for me (which were different since I had a non charity bib), and ways that they could help me achieve my fundraising goals. I was connected with the group of women and was inspired to hear all about their ‘why's’. I can’t say enough good things about this group. I continue to receive thank you and holiday cards from BLG and felt as though I was truly apart of something bigger than myself.
Getting to race day was nothing fancy. I did a 10 week or so build up where I built miles up to 22. After that run I knew I’d be able to make it to the finish. I sprinkled in some workouts for what would be my goal marathon pace the next serious go around. I was in full internship mode from August to December paired with working on the weekends, so there was little time to commit elsewhere. The nice thing was, I was okay with that. This was finally a marathon without any expectations. Except maybe meeting my fundraising goal. Fundraising is strange. I don't like nagging people or asking for money. But I have some fantastic and selfless humans in my life and I’m happy to say that by race day, I had surpassed my goal. I can’t thank all 29 of you more.
One of those magical humans lives in Hoboken. A friend of mine sine preschool was gracious enough to let me stay with her for the marathon. (She even drove me to the buses before the sun came up!) I went up to Hobo Friday afternoon and got settled in. Saturday morning would be a quick run than off to the expo. I took the ferry over which put me right infant of the Javits Center. I arrived just before they opened and had fun people watching everyone in line. Some people clearly had been to the expo already, as they were decked out in head to toe NYC Marathon gear. Others were chatting about nerdy runner things. Some looked like they had never been to a running event and were very out of place. Once inside, it was pretty neat to be at one of the very first booths to get my bib. I never took a second to realized though I had not gotten into the sub-elite start, I was still seeded with a very fast race in a field of 50,000 people. Go me :)  I walked around the rest of the expo and spent way to much money on race clothing. Next it would be taking the subway to meet up with the BLG crew at the finish line for a photo.
Tumblr media
I met up with another BLG member who was in a boot, but still in the city to cheer everyone on. She had been a long time member of BLG. We attempted to navigate the subway and miserably failed. Long story short, we went the wrong way. Got on a train in the right direction but the wrong one. Then after waiting for a long time, realized that the train we wanted wasn’t running that day. We walked a number of blocks later and then through the park to get to the finish as people were already leaving :( I spent some time meeting the two women overseeing the weekend as well as a few other members. We received this beautiful drawing of Gabe done by the very talented Jacqueline Alnes. The finish line was buzzing with runners and spectators. It was nice to be relaxed and take it all in. But I was getting hungry and hot. I figured out the subway back to the ferry and took the short ride back to Hoboken.

Laser Hair Removal : Effective and Long-lasting Hair Reduction Solutions
Are you tired of dealing with unwanted hair that keeps growing back no matter how many times you shave, wax, or pluck? If so, laser hair removal may be the solution you've been looking for. This advanced technique offers an effective and long-lasting way to reduce unwanted hair, and in New York, there are plenty of reputable clinics that offer this treatment, such as Le Parlour NYC.
Laser hair removal is a popular cosmetic procedure that uses laser technology to target and destroy hair follicles, preventing future hair growth. The procedure is safe, FDA-approved, and suitable for both men and women. It can be used on various parts of the body, including the face, legs, arms, bikini area, and more.
One of the key advantages of laser hair removal is its effectiveness. Unlike temporary hair removal methods like shaving or waxing, laser hair removal provides long-lasting results. The laser targets the pigment in the hair follicles, heating them and destroying their ability to produce new hair. Over a series of sessions, the treated hair follicles become inactive, resulting in a significant reduction in hair growth. Many patients experience a permanent reduction in hair after completing their recommended treatment sessions.
In addition to its effectiveness, laser hair removal offers several other benefits. Firstly, it is a precise and quick procedure. The laser can target multiple hair follicles simultaneously, making it possible to treat large areas of the body in a short amount of time. Secondly, laser hair removal is virtually painless. While some patients may experience mild discomfort during the treatment, it is generally well-tolerated. Finally, laser hair removal is suitable for various skin types and hair colors, although optimal results are typically achieved on individuals with lighter skin tones and darker hair.
When considering laser hair removal in New York, it's essential to choose a reputable clinic like Le Parlour NYC. Their experienced technicians use state-of-the-art laser technology and follow stringent safety protocols to ensure optimal results and client satisfaction. They offer personalized treatment plans based on individual needs and goals, ensuring that you receive the best possible care.
In conclusion, laser hair removal is an effective and long-lasting solution for unwanted hair. Its precision, quickness, and safety make it a popular choice among individuals looking to reduce hair growth. Intersectional Counseling for Individuals in NYC
Tumblr media
Wove Therapy specializes in providing counseling with an intersectional lens. It is our mission to make culturally curious, anti-colonial, anti-racist, liberation oriented, relational therapy accessible to folks with intersecting marginalized identities. We do this by embodying a diverse range of identities as therapists ourselves and caring about what makes you, you. If you are a BIPOC individual or someone with other marginalized identities, consider who you would want to guide you on one of the deepest, most intimate journeys of your life.
What is Counseling?
Counseling refers to a talk-based therapy that engages you in dialogue with your therapist. Effective counseling occurs at a set time, place (in person or remote), and on a regularly recurring schedule. Wove Therapy encourages a weekly session cadence, but more frequent meetings are also possible. The relationship that builds between you and your therapist has great potential and is considered therapeutic in and of itself.
What is Intersectionality?
Intersectional counseling is our speciality at Wove Therapy. The eminent scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw originally coined the term “intersectionality” as a way to frame the unique oppression of African-American women. Since then, intersectionality has been expanded as a framework to discern various forms and consequences of oppression and privilege as it relates to race, class, gender and other characteristics or people. It enables us to see how hierarchies are formed around intersecting identities. It helps therapists understand why your individual condition may be influenced by the structures around you.
Why is Intersectionality relevant in Counseling?
Applying intersectionality to the clinical space is a profound shift in a field which has historically centered cisgender heteronormative whiteness. It is a way to acknowledge and process the harm that is caused by dominant structures by holding space for those in the margins. Intersectionality in counseling and therapy is essential, enriching, and deepening for treatment and the therapeutic relationship.
Counseling is a well established treatment for many emotional and cognitive issues. Being seen and understood plays a factor in your ability to resolve tension in your life. Life is fundamentally stressful, and too often traumatic. When you add flawed systems, inequity, systemic oppression, generational trauma, immigration, politics, and the environmental crisis (the list goes on!), counseling with an intersectional lens becomes essential.
Tumblr media
Big picture benefits of counseling include greater life satisfaction and ability to move through the systems you exist in. More specifically, it can address past and current issues you may be struggling with such as:
Racial Trauma and Microaggressions
LQBTQ+ Issues
QPOC Issues
Imposter Syndrome
Low or Fluctuating Moods
Anxiety and Panic
Childhood Trauma
Past or Present Trauma
Intergenerational Trauma
Job Stress
Relationship and Family Stress
Immigration and Acculturation
“Third Culture Kid”
Biracial and Multiracial Issues
Emotional Eating
Gender Identity
Sexual Orientation
Grief
Sexual Abuse and Assault
Life Transitions
Burnout
Social Justice Activism
As an inclusive practice, Wove Therapy centers BIPOC, LBGTQ+, first and second generation immigrants, and all folks with marginalized identities. We believe that your lived experiences and intersectional identities deeply impact your well being. We specialize in adults 18 years and up.
Why choose Wove Therapy?
Wove Therapy understands the importance of intersectionality and diverse representation in therapeutic spaces. Our clinical team is a breath of fresh air in a field that has historically centered whiteness. Our therapists utilize a variety of techniques grounded in theory, experience, and research. More important than technique, our therapists’ identities and focus on systemic oppression and privilege make it much more likely that you will develop a strong therapeutic alliance. This is important because the relationship itself can be a mode of change.
Counseling can be a vulnerable experience. Finding the right fit will positively impact your therapy journey.
As an inclusive practice, we offer both in person and remote options for counseling services. In person meetings require consent from both parties.
