SUSPENDED! GWU Says Jessica Krug Will NOT Teach This Semester After She Admitted To Lying About Being Black
George Washington University has suspended Jessica Krug – an associate professor whose work focuses on Africa and the African dispora – after she admitted to lying about being black. Yep, Rachel Dolezal 2.0. More inside….
We just couldn’t make it through the year without a 2020 version of Rachel Dolezal, huh?
George Washington University has suspended Jessica Krug – an associate professor whose expertise includes Africa, Latin America and African American history – after she admitted to lying about being black.
Before Friday, Jessica (aka Jess LaBombera) claimed to be Afro-Latina. Turns out, she’s a self-described 38-year-old “white Jewish woman from Kansas.” The blackfish of it all!
In a blog post published on Medium, Jessica came clean about her blackfishing ways.
”For the better part of my adult life, every move I’ve made, every relationship I’ve formed, has been rooted in the napalm toxic soil of lies,” she began the admission.
”To an escalating degree over my adult life, I have eschewed my lived experience as a white Jewish child in suburban Kansas City under various assumed identities within a Blackness that I had no right to claim: first North African Blackness, then US rooted Blackness, then Caribbean rooted Bronx Blackness,” she wrote.
The disgraced professor admitted she had no right to claim any of these identities.
” I have not only claimed these identities as my own when I had absolutely no right to do so — when doing so is the very epitome of violence, of thievery and appropriation, of the myriad ways in which non-Black people continue to use and abuse Black identities and cultures — but I have formed intimate relationships with loving, compassionate people who have trusted and cared for me when I have deserved neither trust nor caring. People have fought together with me and have fought for me, and my continued appropriation of a Black Caribbean identity is not only, in the starkest terms, wrong — unethical, immoral, anti-Black, colonial — but it means that every step I’ve taken has gaslighted those whom I love.”
You can read her shocking admission in full here.
In a statement, George Washington University announced Ms. Krug – who preciously worked at Duke University - would not teach classes this semester. They acknowledged “many students, faculty, staff and alumni are hurting” and that they are reviewing the case.

Oh, and get this…
In an alleged bio from one of her books, she described herself as an “unreformed child of the hood.”

Chile…
According to chatter on Twitter, Jessica revealed the truth after a Black Latina junior scholar called her out on her ish. Dr. Yomaira Figueroa - an associate professor of Afro Diaspora Studies at Michigan State University – shed some light on how it all came about.
The only reason Jessica Krug finally admitted to this lie is bec on Aug 26th one very brave very BLACK Latina junior scholar approached two senior Black Latina scholars & trusted them enough to do the research & back her up. Those two scholars made phone calls & reached out to...

"The only reason Jessica Krug finally admitted to this lie is bec on Aug 26th one very brave very BLACK Latina junior scholar approached two senior Black Latina scholars & trusted them enough to do the research & back her up,” she tweeted. "Those two scholars made phone calls & reached out to other senior scholars & institutions with proof. There was no witch hunt, but there was a need to draw the line,” she continued.
"Krug got ahead of the story because she was caught & she knew the clock was ticking bec folks started to confront her & ask questions."
that she would have come out with the truth on her own. She made a living & a whole life out of parroting Black Rican trauma and survival. As a Black Rican I am PISSED. The other thing is that, let historians tell it, her work is actually good, chick is smart- so why lie?

she has taken, everything she has gained, all that she stole by creating this identity & shrouding herself with Black & Latinx folks who defended, supported, and lifted her up. What does restitution look like when she won awards, grants, & fellowships for underrepresented folks?

A now-former friend of Jessica’s, Hari Ziyad, also insisted Jessica only confessed because she had been caught.
I apologize to the friends who I gaslighted by insisting she wasn't who they knew she was.
And I apologize to all who gate-keep Blackness. I've always said gate-keeping is okay and valid. I was wrong. Gate-keeping is good and necessary.

"She didn't do it out of benevolence," Hari tweeted. "She did it because she had been found out."
Jess Krug, professor at @GWtweets, is someone I called a friend up until this morning when she gave me a call admitting to everything written here. She didn't do it out of benevolence. She did it because she had been found out.https://t.co/kSNkVUzbtM

Bloopity bloop!
As you know, the Internet remains undefeated. And they did not disappoint with the memes and reads surrounding this blackfish scandal:

A whole lot of uninformed people gonna be spouting that take that Jessica Krug proves Black people have advantages, when all it exposes is what we’ve always known — lighter and fairer-skinned black folks are more valued because of their proximity to whiteness.

She deleted her Tinder so I can't show y'all, and I know none of y'all will believe this actually happened, but I matched with Jessica Krug -- the white woman pretending to be Black -- on Tinder a couple years back and she went in on me for not caring about Black people enough.

I’m sorry. Y’all thought SHE was black? #JessicaKrug pic.twitter.com/x3zGPI2huM

Turns out that online AfroLatina activist Jess La Bombera from the Bronx is actually real-life culture vulture & white woman Jessica Krug from Kansas.
All we are is a tan, some hoops, & a shitty accent—we’re nothing but costumes to some of y’all.

Jessica Krug’s story is identical to former Spokane NAACP chapter president Rachel Dolezal’s blackfighing story from 2015. Now, she's Rachel Dolezal 2.0 and no one asked for it.
Do black women (or anyone for that matter) have a right to be outraged? Or are we just being too “emotional?"
