mutuals you’re thankful for in 2022?

Hello little Mouse! This is quite a question, y'know. Generally I don't like doing these things because I get so anxious that I'm going to forget someone. However, aside from the fact that I really am thankful for every single one of my mutuals (you're all awesome and I don't know what I've done to deserve you all), let me give a little special shoutout to a few who absolutely has made my 2022 happier (in no particular order).

@heartofspells: I'm so so happy that I had a brave moment and slid into your DMs to ask if you wanted to collaborate on something for the Wolfstar Bingo. Writing Family on the Mend was such a highlight of my year and I had so much fun doing it. You're such an incredible writer and so generous with your amazing brain and all the ideas you come up with. You make me a better writer and I'm grateful for that.

@fonkeloog: I will never be able to thank you enough for inviting me into the Chaos Chat. It improved my 2022 with about 120% (at least). I love your poems and the way you make me laugh, how generous you are with yourself and how kind and excited you are. You're such an amazing person and I'm frankly just lucky I've got to know you.

@narcissa-black-supermacy: Dani Dani Dani. You have opened doors for me in 2022 that I didn't I know I needed (or wanted) to open. I'm in absolute awe of what an incredible writer you are (you have made me cry so much) and so grateful for how you excitedly have cheered me on as I've travelled outside of my comfort zone to write things I didn't know I was capable of. You make me laugh so much, have such interesting HCs and I could discuss the Black family with you for hours.

@squintclover: Rory, my love. I cannot believe how lucky I was to get paired with you for the MUWF adventure, not only because you're a joy to work with but it also allowed us to get to know each other better. You are so sweet and kind and such an incredibly talented writer. You're also so generous with feedback and comments and I'm so grateful for how you encourage and cheer me on.

@broomsticks: Jackie my love! The absolute Queen of Comments. I'm absolutely in awe of you and how generous you are with feedback and how you manage to leave thoughtful comments on everything. I can't begin to tell you how much your comments have meant to me this year. Also, I'm so happy to have you to bounce ideas off, so grateful for all the encouragement you send my way and how you help twist my twisted ideas just a little bit further.

Everyone in the sprint room on the Writers' Guild Server: Too many people to name honestly but without this chaotic group of people and the screaming and the sprints I wouldn't have got half the writing done in 2022 year that I have.

Ah, okay, I'm sure I've forgotten someone and there are so many of you out there that have made 2022 better for me. Those of you who have left comments on my work, those of you who have written things that has made me feel so much and generously shared your ideas and talent with the world.

Let's continue in 2023!

Marauders Fandom Discourse

Hi, just some food for thought about what I’ve been seeing spread across the fandom as of late.

The first thing I would like to point out has to do with choosing which content you consume. AO3 does this thing where is asks your consent AFTER you click on a fic if said fic is rated mature or explicit. A message will pop up that says “This work could have adult content. If you proceed you have agreed that you are willing to see such content.” If you agree, you need to understand what you’re reading, what you’re about to see, is ENTIRELY ON YOU. Not only have you decided to click on a fic with that rating, but you have ALSO consented AGAIN to what you’re about to read. You chose that, don’t go blaming it on anybody else because you agreed.

Now, if you have this feature turned off, this means you have given AO3 blanket consent to show you any fic with this rating. Again YOU have given your CONSENT and therefore anything you read under these two ratings may contain adult content and if you have something against that, there are plenty of fics with teen and up or general ratings.

Secondly, AO3 has set up specific archive warnings for some of the more general topics that some consumers decide to avoid. These include major character death, underage, graphic descriptions of violence, and rape/non-con. If you have a problem or feel uncomfortable reading a fic with any of these tags, this needs to be the first thing you check when clicking on a fic. If the author has tagged the fic correctly, it is on YOU to decide whether or not you want to read a fic with whatever warning is present.

Thirdly, an author uses additional tags to warn a reader exactly what to expect when they’re deciding whether or not to read a fic. If the fic is tagged correctly, and YOU decide not to read the tags and something that was tagged pops up that you don’t like, that is on YOU. The author has done everything they could have by tagging the fic, after that, it is up to you to know your limits of what you want to and do not want to read. Some authors will go as far to put content warnings at the beginning of each chapter for their readers, if you ignore these as well, this is on you.

Finally, a general rule across all fandoms, the Marauders one included, is don’t like, don’t consume. If there is a tag, a warning, a trope, a ship, any fucking thing you don’t like in the fic, just don’t read it. Don’t go out of your way to tell the author you didn’t like something that you knew ahead of time would be in the fic. They warned you, you ignored it, it’s on you now. People use fandoms and create content for many different reasons. For some it’s to escape their mind, for some it brings comfort, for some it’s just a bit of fun, etc, etc. Don’t go harping on people for creating something you don’t like, especially if you knew you wouldn’t like it and are now just going out of your way to make them feel bad.

The general message of this post is don’t be a fucking asshole. It is entirely up to you what you consume and how you navigate your own time through the fandom. You curate your own experience and it is no one’s obligation to tend to your own personal desires.

There has been a specific instance that most people are upset about but if you reference my points about, you will realize that the author a) rated the fic correctly, b) added proper archive warnings, c) thoroughly tagged the fic in question. Everyone who is complaining had everything they needed to know before going in and therefore should not be upset when they got exactly what was set up for them.

Now I realize that there are a lot more minors in the fandom that have joined in the past few years, so this is a reminder to anyone who may have missed the message. This fandom wasn’t built off of tiktok and minors, the majority, if not all, the fics you are consuming at the moment were and are written by adults. If this bothers you, write your own fic or find some friends around your own age writing fics and read those. But DO NOT come at the people who built this fandom before you were born and DO NOT disrespect authors when they create this content for free without asking anything in return.

I would just like to say that if you continue this treatment and bully all the creators out of the fandom, I better not see anyone complaining when no more content is being created because of the fear of being cancelled for no goddamn reason.

Roughly six million girls would have killed, strangled with a ribbon, bashed a head with a blowdryer or done something deadly with lip gloss, to be trapped in the closet with teen heartthrob Sirius Black on the set of Noble. Remus Lupin was not one of them.

For @wolfstarbingo2022 prompt “hiding in the closet” but with inspiration from the row “celebrity AU,” “prank gone wrong,” and “hate sex.” (There is no actual sex but I took the energy of hate sex as inspiration.)

Title: Everyone's hair is too long Creator: wearegods Link: ao3 Squares filled: War Time Angst (Ch. 1) | Love Confessions (Ch. 2) Rating: T for teen Warnings: n/a Major tags: angst with a happy ending, post-Hogwarts Word count: 3,578 Summary: When Remus disappears for an Order mission, Lily enlists Sirius to try to figure out where he's gone. Meanwhile, Sirius realizes he might be in love with his best friend. When Remus comes back, Sirius is full of angst and other big feelings.

"Sirius was already crying, it seemed. He fell back onto his haunches and felt hot tears stream down his dry skin. Remus sat up a little straighter, reaching out to take Sirius’ hand in his lap.

“God, how embarrassing,” Sirius said through a persistent stream of tears. “Pull yourself together Moony.”

“Yeah I’m really falling apart here, aren’t I,” Remus said, the sides of his mouth quirking up into a smile."

“you’re always reading!” sirius pouted, hands on his hips in front of the bed remus sat on, remus’ eyes glancing between the pages in his hands and the raven-haired boy’s face.

“five more minutes, pads.” remus pleaded, not quite done the chapter. 

that only prompted sirius to jump into the lycanthrope’s lap and start pawing at the novel. remus and sirius struggled for custody over the book while james watched, clearly amused, the scene play out from the desk where he pretended to work on schoolwork. as soon as remus was distracted enough, sirius grabbed his glasses and slid them onto his own nose. remus scoffed and tilted his head, as if to say “what are you doing?”. sirius could hear that phrase in his own mind, the result of how often remus said it. the tone of which he spoke, the lilt in his voice when he said the word ‘are’, everything was memorised so that by now, remus didn’t even need to say anything. just a raise of his eyebrow sent the question spinning into sirius’ mind.

“here, give me the book!” sirius squealed, moving his body so he lay just how remus did, one leg crossed over the other, back propped up the the mound of pillows at the top of the bed. remus dog-eared the page, shaking his head, and handed over his paperback copy of ordinary people by judith guest. sirius directed his entire focus into making himself look how remus did when the boy was engrossed in a story. he hunched over the book and fiddled with corner of the page, flappy from being bent-down, until-

“ouch!” sirius winced, drawing his hand away and letting the book fall into his lap. remus quickly figured out what happened, blood present on sirius’ finger evidencing a papercut, and started rummaging in the desk drawer. he pulled out a bandaid and, much to the amusement of the injured animagus on his bed, treated the wound.

“what are you laughing at?!” remus asked exasperatedly when sirius couldn’t control his sniggers, wrapping one end of the bandaid around the other.

“look at us,” sirius examined the patch-job, “i’m reading your books, your healing my wounds, it’s usually vice-versa.”

“let’s keep it that way, huh? no more book-reading for you if you’re planning to bleed all over the pages.”

The only news he had received during that time had come from Sirius. 981 days of trying to forget something that was a part of him, so deeply engrained into his being that he would have had a better chance trying to forget his own name. 981 days and here he was, standing barely a feet away, dressed immaculately in a dark suit.

"Sirius," manages Remus after far too long. "Sirius, you're bladdered. You don't know what you're doing, mate."

Remus is suddenly being twisted forcefully until he's facing his friend, Sirius staring up at him with intense, fierce, needing eyes. "Don't," hisses Sirius, warning but also something like desire coating the edges of his voice. Remus tries to worm himself away, but he's trapped between the body still pressing into his and the counter digging into the back of his hips. Sirius' gaze drops to Remus' mouth before flickering back up quickly as a hand wraps around the back of Remus' neck, fingers tracing over a faint, hair-fine scar at his nape. Sirius licks his lips. "Just…shut up, all right?"

And then Remus is being pulled down, a mouth covering his own, testing at first and then filled with hunger. A low moan emerges from Sirius' throat, vibrating through Remus. Hips grind forward, bones and hardness sending heat lacing up Remus' spine. Sirius pulls back suddenly, his eyes dropping to the fruit on the counter and then up to Remus once more. He licks his lips again and then he's releasing a rumbling growl, mouth diving back in, catching lips, knocking teeth, tongue invading, searching out flavors and the ridges at the roof of Remus' mouth.

"I fucking hate kiwi," mutters Sirius against him, not parting or breaking away.
