What do Hunters get you might ask? Well that's simple: They have each other! It goes:

• meet under unlikely circumstances

• develop lifelong bond

• get into a stupid mess

• one of them dies in (or as a consequence of) said stupid mess

• the one left alive gets super traumatized, has a huge change to their entire personality makes the death become their main driving force, and then waits until they meet a new hunter so they themselves can die in a stupid mess and continue the cycle!

I brought it up as a joke, but now I can't stop noticing similarities between Victoria Dallon and Severian the Torturer from Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun. You've got:

Protagonist raised from birth to be a Deliverer of Justice as a matter of both profession and community

Backed their way somewhat accidentally into an immensely powerful position

Continual references to the memory of a now-dead lover they've put on a pedestal, with occasional jarring glimpses given of darker parts of their relationship that they seem determined not to acknowledge afterwards

Self-conceptualizes as being obedient while also casually breaking promises and oaths all the time

Would be a category error to refer to as a singular entity, having another consciousness tied to a traumatic event always present in the back of their head

Has a close friend with a largely inorganic body

Friendgroup in general tends to have strained relationships with "continuity of self"

Enemies include giant scheming monsters, armies of enthralled servants, and a scarcity of resources that comes from living in world that's undergone fantastical catastrophies

Purposefully framed as being cruel and disproportionate in pursuing justice, despite giving long explanations for why their actions are actually necessary,

And sometimes framed as not believing in the righteousness of their own actions, instead behaving out of an inability to imagine another way society could function,

But occasionally framed as if their actions, while cruel, really are necessary in a way that makes you worry about the author's worldview.

"Do you ever have the urge to dropkick a child?" You wondered out loud as you rest your head on kafka's shoulder. "Y-" But before kafka could say any more, blade butt in. "Everyday."

You sat up straight and stared at him. "I wasn't fucking talking to you, you piece of shit we should've just left you there at the Xianzhou Luofu." You moved to strangle him before Kafka turned you around and caught you in a superb romantic position. "You shouldn't go after that man child, put all your focus on me, won't you?"

"Do we kiss now?" you speak, slowly inching you way to kafka's scrumptious lips. She giggled and leaned to kiss you.

Blade, shocked that his mother would kiss that atrocity (he's referring to you)-oh my gosh are you going to be his new step mother? You started to laugh evily and throw balls of fire at him. (This was a figment of his imagination, this did not happen in real life.) Oh no, you're going to be an evil step mom! (only to blade ofc)

Out of the pure shock and terror, blade started to foam in the mouth and dropped dead like the rat he is. You went to check up on him because you didnt want to clean up another dead body. "He's not going to die unfortunately because he's immortal" you said.

"Oh really? I thought he would turn into a fair-" suddenly kafka's words were cut off (again) as blade started to grow cute pink wings and become your fairy godmother. Instead however, when he woke up, he started to throw his cute fairy wand that was pink and covered in glitter at people he was supposed to grant wishes to causing him to get fired by the fairy godmother association. This caused him to turn into shrek.

Kafka, actually terrified for once in her life pulled out her guns and shot at her own son, well what do you even call it now? idk either. anyway she started shooting but shrek-blade was bullet proof! it grabbed you by the hair and pulled so hard it made you bald. Kafka screamed in terror seeing your naked head and started to turn into a disney princess. You on the other hand turned into whats his face the villain in smurfs with the bald spot dude but more gorgeous and feminine/masculine. You became evil and ruled the world along side your wife who was now a disney princess but it turns out she was cheating on you with prince charming and so she ran away with him and lived happily ever after, but you, super heart broken, sang with shrek and finally turned into the donkey and ate shrek (you killed him)

p.s. silver wolf saw the whole thing but after a second, she thought it would be cool to hack another jet but when she got on it it blew up and well everyone died including her so

As usual phone camera kinda desaturated the colors. May try to update with a better picture later after the oil I used to blend a bit dries and maybe doing a bit more touch up.

Super-Charged Anti-Nightmare Protection Enchantment

this is a quick enchantment spray I whipped up because I am completely exhausted with having night terrors every night. my plan for this is to enchant the stuffed animals that I have in my bed, but you could use this for anything connected to your sleep- your pillows, blanket, sleep mask, your mattress… the list goes on.

you will need:

-1 spray bottle

-a chamomile tea bag or two (I use sleepytime extra with valerian- the extra kick for a deep sleep is a nice touch!)

-a crystal you associate with protection or dreams (PLEASE make sure it is NOT a water soluble crystal!)- I use amethyst

-rosemary for sleep and protection

-thyme for nightmare protection and healthy sleep

-bay leaves for protection and good dreams

-cinnamon to protect against psychic attack and for warmth in your dreams

-whatever item you will be enchanting

optional:

-incense to smoke-charge your water (you can use an incense you associate with sleep OR what I do is use an incense I associate with a deity I worship, and use the charging time to pray to Them for protection)

-sigils for nightmare protection (if you can’t or don’t want to make your own, I really like @sigilathenaeum)

to make:

make sure your spray bottle is cleaned and cleansed to your liking. if you’re using sigils, add them with permanent marker to the outside of the spray bottle. (pro tip: I like to add a sigil for strength directly to the outside of the nozzle)

fill the spray bottle 3/4 of the way with water. (pro tip: I use moon water for added strength!)

add your crystal to the water, followed by the tea bag(s), the rosemary, the thyme, and the cinnamon. add the bay leaves last.

close the spray bottle tightly and shake vigorously.

leave the spray bottle for at least 6 hours to infuse itself. if you’re smoke-charging the water or the sigils, now is a good time to do so.

before bedtime (you can do this periodically or do it nightly, whatever feels right to you), spray your item(s) lightly and give them time to dry fully before you lay down for the night. thank the items for protecting you before you sleep :)

BONUS:

if you’d like the additional protection of a spell, feel free to use your own or use mine. repeat the spell each time you spray an item.
