Hybrid wings of fire culture is being confused as to why your friends are sad you weren't raised by your mom and dad together even though you've explained that rainwings don't keep their eggs so she just gave you to dad to raise in the village

generally speaking i call moonwatcher my full name instead of my deadname but i'm starting to feel like maybe i should call it my deadname because of how it makes me feel... but i guess i don't really like the idea of every single person who has ever read wof and comes across my blog knowing my deadname for one thing, but it's also just. i don't think nightwings had any concept analogous to a deadname and so i'm not sure it would be accurate to call it that in the first place !
it was pretty much impossible to get a legal name change under nightwing law, the closest thing was sometimes a nightwing would have multiple personas, usually all of which would have some kind of entry on the tribe registry with an indication that it was a secondary identity, but the whole point of that was to make the tribe appear bigger and stronger - pen names also went on the registry (assuming you were publishing through the tribe, which obviously was the only way on the volcano but even after if we published some other way sometimes pen names would still get added to the registry because something something tradition i guess) just so they could keep track of everything in one place.
even shortening your name or using a nickname was really frowned upon by the tribe and so while i was able to publish under the name moon in adulthood i wasn't even able to be introduced under that name a lot of the time - if nightwings were in charge they'd often use my full name to spite me, and then sometimes it would be a paperwork accident (or a paperwork "accident") or some other mistake or someone having heard me introduced under that name before or something, when i kept having to deal with icewing nobility they'd be just as anal about it as the nightwings and during one period of teenage rebellion i actually looked into trying to use their legal name change system to at least be recognized as moon under their laws, which was mostly a spite thing because the effort to reward ratio did not work out, but then things changed and that became . a bad idea haha
the other tribes generally didn't give a shit about my legal name, actually i remember the whole idea of a legal name really bothered a lot of rainwings (the original combined tribe registry was such a nightmare. imagine the worst spreadsheet you've ever seen and now imagine it was made by two people who hate each other . formula in unlovable cell) but they also often didn't really understand that when i said i couldn't change it i meant i really couldn't change it, so it wasn't really taken very seriously, my name was basically considered an optional nickname so... i don't know. most dragons outside my own tribe would call me moon, you know, but everybody knew that wasn't my "real" name and most would use my "real" name in some contexts and... i don't think a deadname needs to be completely erased to be a deadname, i don't even think it needs to be legally changed. but i'm looking at this situation and i don't think the concept of a deadname applies at least for me personally. i don't always like applying these concepts retroactively.

kintype heartype and kinsiderlist
so that my intro can be shorter, sorry if this shows up on ur feed or something.
kintypes:
Catkin (black domestic and black panther, for type of panther Jaguar fits the best but a black panther on its own fits too)
Dragonkin (red western fire and eastern sky/water especially a tatsu)
Gray/part of a storm cloud, cloud (and the storm together, or thats another kintype?
Military tank
Attack helicopter (I know, I know, but I'm serious /gen)
Wooden chair
Slinky
Cryptid (in general but I do have a couple specific ones too and I bet the more I look into cryptids the list will grow)
Cabincore
OCkin
Seraphkin (the type of angel)
Demonkin
bookstore and library kin (a cozy little bookstore and a big old library, i should make moodboards for them)
Old computer kin
Robotkin in general
A murder drone (from murder drones) not a specific one, just a murder drone
Vampirekin
The concept of tea/tea as a whole
Glamrock Freddy Fazbear
freddy frostbear
a sprollie dog
a silver fox
Although there are certain theories on why I am certain kintypes that I prefer and even act like it's set in stone, in the end idk whatever so just keep that in mind. also this isnt. theres more kintypes probably.
and maaaaannnny kinsiderings
Circutypes
(circutypes are identitie(s?) similar to the label cladotherian or more so ambitherian, but instead of being exclusive to types of animals is a species, it extends beyond that. The creator @batsbolts-andfangs created it to describe being a bat therian, bat plushiekin and a bat (related?) fictional character. But basically it's a label to describe one nonhuman identity that extends to/ is made up of other nonhuman identities that are a interconnected. This label fits me two times
The first on is less sure/put together than the second one
Mimic
Shadow being (maybe just shadows too idk)
This statue creature that's an original species might count idk yet
Questioning being a void but that might just be part of my fictotype.
A run-along
And now my second circutype that makes more sense!
Deer skull creature is what I consider the base name for it now what this includes is
A deer skull fictional character/monster the nowhere king (which is my profile pic!) which is from centaurworld
Two (OCs? Maybe just original species? I am still figuring out how these two identities work) that are deferent types of deer skulled original creatures
A leshen (and an ancient leshy) from the witcher (I have not interacted with the fandom or played the games, watched the show etc I just stumbled upon it looking for what this kintype was and it fit)
And questioning being a deer skull itself. If not then this is probably a para type or something?
I don't actually think I said all my kintypes but I dont care that much right now I need to get this post over with it's already two am
So here are my heart types:
Crow
Tortoise
Sloth
Ghost
Zombie
Clown
Fall
Halloween
Endermen
Rainwing (it's a type of dragon from wings of fire)
Nightwing (also wof dragon)
Questioning these being kintypes
Edit, I currently consider my wof types to be both kintypes and kithtypes, its confusing and I have no energy to look deep into things but I don't feel I need to honestly.
And am just saying that being a zombie and a ghost is kith, because I don't want to deal with things. Every thing else I know is def a heart type except clown, I ignore that one
Edit, I am now counting zombie as a kin type
I am also questioning being the amazing digital circus and my neighbor totoro (as in conceptkin) and the concept of pizza
also my fictiotypes i also count as fictives (cause im a median system i feel im both, the word for it is fableing) their are also some facets/headmates/medianmates thatimbody certain kintypes or something

here by popular demand, wof books ratings
i haven’t read several of these in quite a while-- i might do an updated version of these ratings after i finish my series reread :] also obvious disclaimer is obvious but this is PURELY my opinion. my taste. lol
the dragonet prophecy: wonderful setup to the world, surprisingly dark and graphic on a reread (how was this for children), really interesting and cool worldbuilding in both the sky and the mud kingdom. clay is also a great protagonist, with a nicely done emotional arc, and peril is here in her prime weirdgirlness. introduces queen scarlet, most iconic villain of all time. 9/10
the lost heir: this used to be one of my favorite books due to the murder mystery aspect, and i would reread it a lot. tsunami has a neat emotional arc here about learning maturity, which i enjoy. however the constant coral apologism, the annoyingness of everything to do with riptide and webs, the bland hetero romance, and the upsetting stuff that seems to get brushed to the side constantly, especially in regard to anemone, has caused this book to become way less enjoyable to me as an adult. 6/10
the hidden kingdom: also used to be one of my favorites for reasons that are probably obvious (kins glory). there’s a fun kind of “girl power” message to the way that glory has to fight to be taken seriously by literally anybody in this book. there’s also interesting mystery aspects again. looking back on it, though, the fact that the prejudiced carictures about rainwings turn out to be true is... weird? and of course, don’t even get me started on how this book used to include the one straight couple i didn’t find annoying, until several years later tui decided to retcon an age gap in. now reading this book feels just all kinds of weird, when it wasn’t before and really didn’t have to be. kind of a mixed bag. 7/10
the dark secret: i have no idea why people constantly rate this one so low. sure, starflight’s obsession can be grating at first, but i find the setting and atmosphere writing in this one to be incredible, all the island characters the interesting and fun kind of terrible-- and not to mention this book contains the two biggest plot twists in the whole series. the tension in this one is as palpable as the smoke in the air, and i think it’s really fun and full of a ton of iconic and memorable scenes. 9/10
the brightest night: this one is fun and camp. i enjoy it a lot, and sunny is such a great character to have as a pov. my only problem with it is how it feels kind of rushed-- there’s a lot of emotional legwork done in only the span of one or two thirds (specifically regarding thorn, i think she would have been a stronger character if shed been introduced in a prior book so we had time to be attatched). i like the solution that the dragonets came up with, and enjoyed them putting it all together, and i kind of wish they’d gotten to actually see it through as they planned-- at least a little further than they got without needing magical interference. aka let’s stop using magic as a deus ex machina. 7/10
moon rising: this is probably my favorite wings of fire book. moon’s quiet and anxious pov is wonderful, and the masterful way her abilities were used to give depth and atmosphere to her surroundings and peers was so enjoyable. it feels like you get a bit of everyone’s pov instead of just hers, for obvious reasons. this one also has some of the most iconic scenes, including the introduction of a soon to be infamous villain, and of course some of the most fan favorite characters out there. not to mention the younger characters and the school settings is very fun, there are so many super well-described scenes that hit hard. all in all this book is slightly spooky, slightly sad, but incredibly enjoyable. the best possible start to a new arc for the series. 10/10
winter turning: it’s fun to have such a zuko-esque character take center stage here. following winter’s journey through coming to terms with his abusive upbringing is emotionally cathartic, even if some scenes make you grit your teeth in annoyance at him. winter’s feelings are complicated and confusing, and it’s really cool to watch him slowly begin to change his opinions about things in real time. it’s such a shame his character gets shortchanged later on. also icewing society is very dystopian main character energy, but, it’s a fantasy series for children. and it’s fun and interesting, so i like it. 8/10
escaping peril: yandere characters have never been my thing, and peril seems to ocillate between that and between a sassy weirdgirl. and to be honest, i’ve never been sure how to feel about that. i find the yandere stuff creepy, but when she’s being a normal weirdgirl i find it strange to just pretend all the murder didn’t happen. she’s a complicated but enjoyable character who i don’t have a very definitive opinion on. aside from peril herself, though, her emotional arc in this book is fun, and the peril-turtle duo is something i never saw coming but something i need infinitely more of. they’re hilarious. several points in this book had me gasping and on the edge of my seat when it originally came out. overall a fun book. 8/10
talons of power: this book mainly seems to exist to move characters around and get plot pieces in motion for the next book. i really enjoy turtle as a character, however, and his family dynamics are interesting and tragic. there’s more coral apologism in this book, although in a different tone-- like they figured out she’s shitty, but not all the reasons yet. darkstalker is extremely creepy. the anemone twist is fascinating, and turtle and qibli’s dynamic is a treasure. 7/10
darkness of dragons: they had me in the first half. 😐 in this book they give you like twenty chapters of qibli and winter flirting and cool backstory reveals for qibli before they decide that they’re actually going to wrap this arc up in the most annoying way possible by saying that qibli learns no lessons ever, winter gets completely fucked over by both his friends and the narrative, moon sympathizes with a genocidal overlord and then is disappointed when people don’t agree with her, and then one of the kindest characters in the series commits Brain Destruction on said genocidal overlord. and also the 20 chapters of queerbaiting gets completely ignored in favor of drawing out the annoying as fuck love triangle and then picking the most boring option. i do Not like how this book ended the arc. what a sad way to wrap up the brilliant thing moon rising started. 3/10
darkstalker: a prequel with absolutely RIVETING worldbuilding, fun characters, cool atmosphere, extremely tragic circumstances, and worst of all you know how it’s going to end. we all know how it’s going to end. and yet we all sit there and watch. hoping and begging and pleading that they’re able to change the course of a story that’s already set in stone. wonderful, fantastic, show-stopping, brilliant. i love fathom and whiteout. this story manages to make every touching moment heartbreaking when you know it’s all in vain and all you can do is watch the slow descent. incredible. 10/10
dragonslayer: a prequel where there’s. humans who talk i guess. 😐 who thought this was a good idea. the only redeeming quality is sky, which isn’t surprising considering he’s the Only Dragon. 4/10

Name suggests for a Rainwing and Nightwing hybrid in the Nightwing naming style with themes of plants and night!
Starfruit - Pretty simple but fun! Both plants and the night!
Lightfern - Light like the light from the moon and stars, and fern! Gives me the feeling of grass swaying in the moonlight.
Leafflutter - Like leaves fluttering in the wind, and more of the noun-verb naming scheme Nightwings have.
Cloverdancer - Gives me the vibes of a picnic under the stars, another noun-verb name!
Petalglisten - a very elegant plant name
Illuminatedblossom - Another elegant and pretty name, with a little bit more of a night theme than the last.
CelestialIvy - Another more elegant one, pretty stars and pretty plants!

Whoa, very intense longing to be a rainwing today. Just had a sudden craving to be a dragon chilling in the rainforest chowing down on some ripe juicy fruits.
Idk if that was a kin thing or not, I've been questioning dragon properly for probably almost a year now and Pyrrhia is such a familiar comfort to me but when I questioned a wof kintype most of my focus was on sandwings. Sand/rain maybe? might be time to revisit that

Stuff about my dragonkin form that I either love or find funny:
When I’m feeling a strong emotion, I can FEEL my scales shifting to match the colour that matches my feelings
To add on, when I get started or surprised, I feel my ruffs flare out and my aquatic markings flash
I despise fish and crustaceans, but will gladly eat up fruits and veggies
I’m not the best climber, but that makes sense, because I’m part SeaWing and am more used to swimming than climbing
My fangs are long and thick, which are perfect for snapping up prey
I love my long curly horns, but it sucks when they get tangled in branches
Swinging on swings and riding on boats are the best because I can spread my wings and flap them excitedly
When I’m feeling sleepy, I can tuck my wings against me and curl my tail up
Swimming is the best! I can spread my wings as far as I want and paddle with my strong limbs and tail without getting tired (sucks that I don’t have physical gills to let me breathe underwater tho)
Music makes my scales shift in all sorts of colours and patterns, and they never quite stay in one colour for too long. I also love thumping my tail to the beat
Stretching out my shoulder blades also gives me a great wing stretch, which is great first thing in the morning
I get really sleepy in the afternoon, so it’s a great excuse to lay in the sun and have suntime with my cat

After you read the fifth and sixth book and learn about the feud between icewings and nightwings, Deathbringers first interaction with Glory glory is FUCKING WILD.
Imagine you’re trying to sneak into the territory of your sworn enemy who would probably kill you on sight, one of them threatens you and you INSTANTLY TRY TO BUY THEM A DRINK
I’m convinced Deathbringer didn’t actually realize he had a crush on Glory at first and just panicked and said the first thing on his mind
