I did a bit of searching in the Night Lords Trilogy because I thought I remembered them at one point wearing fatigues instead of tunics/robes, but it turns out to be the legion serfs who wear fatigues (and sometimes robes and tunics too) while Talos, Xarl, Ruven etc etc are all freeballing it in "dark" tunics which is of course the gothiest colour of tunic.

At the first hints of the sensation, he could see himself now – his hands before his face, bone-white and blue-veined, and his tunic of dark weave.

Most of the mortals were either in the insignia-stripped Naval uniforms of Covenant crew or the dark fatigues worn by the VIII Legion’s serfs, but several dozen spread across various stations were clearly former Red Corsair slaves. Most of the latter wore the red robes of that fallen Chapter’s servants.

"Fatigues" is itself not that helpful either as it could mean anything from 19th century style practical/working uniforms that are still somewhat ornate to very plain modern combat style clothing.

But personally I like these the best because of the popped collars and fingerless gloves. When you're mean about the VIII Legion these are the style icons you're being mean about.

Calling it now, the Cabal originally started as everybody who was hopelessly attracted to The Old One.

The Old One might have been an insane egomaniac, but he definitely attracted every man within a 5-mile radius. He could have anyone he wanted with very little effort.

I’m just echoing others here, but he was such a whore and I love that. Something about being deviously smart/powerful, sharply dressed, and unexpectedly slutty is just one of my favorite character tropes ever, it’s so hilarious to me. The rest of the Arkanum was probably rolling their eyes so hard when he’d bring a different guy back with him every weekend
