(ft a rough lil wading in waist-high water sequel draft)

Sirius flips down the car mirror and fluffs his hair. His hand pauses as he notices movement inside the cottage, and he watches long fingers (which have featured heavily in his dreams) part the curtains, before a face appears at the window. Sirius is too far away to draw out the details—the bump in the ridge of his nose, the smattering of freckles, the golden flecks in his eyes—but he’d know Remus anywhere; in this world, and the next. Before he knows it, he's stepping out of the car and striding up the path to the front door. His hand is outstretched to knock, but the rough wooden door swings open before he ever gets the chance. “Hi,” Remus says. His cheeks are flushed with colour, his curls tousled and dusted with flour. His brown eyes are warm, so unbelievably warm. Sirius's dreams did not do them justice. “Hi,” Sirius breathes. “Hi,” Remus repeats. Sirius splutters out a laugh. “Hi.” Remus’s eyes scan his face, as if savouring every little detail. He bites his lip, eyes flicking back up to meet Sirius's, and Sirius watches black pupil swallow brown iris. He opens his mouth to speak, but before he can get a word out, Remus is pushing him against the side of the house. “I missed you,” Remus murmurs against his lips, while Sirius scrambles for purchase, arching against him, trying to get as close as he physically can without crawling into Remus's skin. "I—fuck. I missed you so much.”

Black Mass and AtYD are two of fav Remu stories, also. Tbf, nothing really beats Black Mass for me, though. I haven’t read the other ones you mentioned but I’ve added them to my TBR! (Just now realizing I haven’t read very many fics solely from Remus’ POV, which is a real tragedy.)

Here’s a couple others I really enjoyed:

Sweater Weather: I love this Remus so much. I haven’t read another fic where he’s physically the smaller one. His personality is just so sweet and very different from some of the other fics I’ve read.

Wading in Waist-High Water: baking Remus? Yes, please. He’s so completely oblivious and I can’t get over it. This fic had me giggling and kicking my feet the whole way through. I related a lot to some of the stuff Remus experienced and it was just a really cozy story.

Black Mass really was something very special, I think. boy oh boy did i learn things about myself reading that! ANYWAY. as for ATYD? there are no words.

Wading in waist-high water is truly truly one of my favourite things on the planet. i ADORE REMUS in that, he's utterly delicious. (everytime i talk about this fic ((often)) i start talking in food terms by accident). everything from his growing confidence to his bread-making hands just has my heart in its grip. in the nicest, most admiring way possible, never did i think an AU about British bloody bake off would make me cry, scream, giggle and shout out loud BUT HERE WE ARE! put a fork in me, I'm done. (see? ffs) I'll re-read this one forever. the sweetest. I'm really looking forward to this writer's WIP too, my friends @industrations and @assclaptherapy have been violently and aggressively threatening @solmussa and i to read it on a regular basis.

Sweater Weather is genuinely my ultimate comfort fic. found family vibes to the extreme, everytime i read it i feel like I'm there, in the kitchen with them all or supporting them with a tub of ice cream in the living room watching a game, y'know? and honestly, there's nothing that i love more than feeling safe and happy when I'm reading something. so its perfection.

have you read Not another band au by thelovelyzee? that's a good one for a Remus POV - i cant remember if i mentioned that one before but there are some fantastic moments in that, plus the playlist is top top top tier.

Commentary: I've decided to start off this list with one of my all time favourites. This fic just had such wholesome energy, I can't express to you how happy and comforted it makes me feel.

Commentary: One of the first fics I ever read, and I still love it to this day!

constant - on another ocean

The early spring light is golden and crisp, the bright blue sky dotted with mottled grey clouds. The trees, slowly being overtaken by the first green buds of spring, are smoky and wispy on the Parisian skyline, and as they walk, the Eiffel tower watches over them, a constant, looming presence.

At this time of the year, there’s a gentleness to Paris that Sirius doesn’t remember from the stifling summers of his youth. He wonders if it’s Remus’s presence, or if Regulus was right in that he’d never truly known Paris. Perhaps it’s both.

bare - on another ocean

The lean muscle of Remus’s bare back glows with sweat in the midday Tuscan sun. Sirius could count every freckle on his golden skin. He could trace them with his fingers. He wants to.

Images flash through Sirius’s mind at that moment, memories of his dream from the night before. Images of his own hands on Remus’s back, his nails dug in, crescent moons imbedded into the skin there; red, raised welts from his fingernails marring golden skin; Remus above him, amber eyes dark with heat—

Sirius’s stomach swoops and he’s filled with want: pure, utterly dizzying, undeniable want.

Oh.

Oh fuck, Sirius thinks. No, no, no.

Sirius is wide eyed, surrounded by the fronds of the willow, the last vestiges of sunlight dappling on his skin, on his hair, in his eyes, making them shine. Remus thinks he almost looks like the image of some god, some painting; he should be in a gallery, the Louvre . His aristocratic features, his windswept black hair, surrounded by the green; frazzled, shirt untucked, and hair ruffled. Remus has a fleeting thought that he doesn’t know what’s more beautiful: Sirius or the scenery.

It’s him, his mind supplies. Him.

“Not a morning person then?” Sirius asks, his voice light and airy.

Remus flops down beside him, his long arms spilling onto the counter, and grumbles something that could be interpreted as affirmative, but Sirius really isn’t sure.

“French press or espresso?” Sirius asks, standing up.

Remus yawns.

And, sometimes, when he lets his mind get away from him, he imagines a shock of black hair against his pillow. Pale skin against his own golden skin. Stormy eyes gazing up at him, lips—

“Sore hip?” Malene’s voice shakes him from his reverie.

Remus clears his throat and blows on his tea before he takes a sip. “Yeah.”

“How’s the bread practice going?”

He shrugs. “So, so. Bread’s always a bit of a funny one. It either works or it doesn’t.”

I was wondering if you were planning a sequel or a spin-off for Wading over on AO3? I know it's in a series, but there isn't anything else in there, so I wasn't sure. So, yeah, I was wondering if/when I might be able to expect something new in that series?

I've read through Wading at least a dozen times and, to my immense surprise and displeasure, I have been feeling feelings (your fault). And am, even more shockingly, DESPERATE FOR MORE OF IT (also your fault).

So, yeah, I have become accustomed to your particular brand of sugar-dusted, caramel-salted, chocolate-dipped, merlot-and-smut-soaked feelings and I might be able to cope with the emptiness, if I could just have the confirmation that more is coming... It is, right? rIGHT?!

PS: I think you're amazing.

PPS: I commented something similar to this beneath the work over on AO3 under Steph_K, if you want to give it a read? It also includes some things I picture Remus and Sirius doing now that they are disgustingly cute and all in-love, or whatever.

YES there will be a sequel! several, in fact, and i've started writing the first of them <3 they won't be long-form in the same way that wading in waist-high water is, but instead just various oneshots and snapshots of their life together. some will carry on more directly from the others, while others will be more vignette-y :-) i have so many ideas though, stretching from the year after wiwhw, to 10 years later. some of them are even a wee bit sad (bc life can be sad) but wiwhw is ultimately comfy escapism, so everything will always be happily ever after <3 in the end!

but as for when... i haven't decided yet :o))) re: your other ask, the 21st of april, as seen on the album review, is actually just my birthday and was a fun little personal easter egg i threw in there bc i needed a date ;-))) i am no mastermind! buttttttt now that you've mentioned it, i think it might actually be super sweet to release the first sequel then... you've put ideas in my mind .....!

also, i will reply to your ao3 comment soon (tho i am disgustingly behind w comments atm AGHhhhhh i feel so guilty about it) BUT i will say that you were v on the mark with some of your headcanons !! i will also say that the first sequel takes place 2 weeks after the final of bake off ;-) do with that info what you will!
