Higher Beings Preview

So, in addition to the mortal Hetrans, there are other, supernatural creatures that go under a super-category called, "Higher Beings." Their label comes from the fact that they are believed to live a more complex life within nature, for better or for worse, and are usually supernaturally powerful. Someone can be born a Higher Being, or be created.

Here's the list:

• The Formless Ones (formless forces of the Universe)

• The Drakones (the lóng gods)

• The Ancient Peoples (Currently contains the Serpent Folk (based on Nagas) and their special kin, the Grande Serpents (based on legendary and giant snakes) and Noble Serpents (basilisks))

• Demons (expanded further below)

• Divums (expanded further below)

• Fox Spirits (based on Hulijing/Kitsune)

• Shas (based on the Set animals and Sutekh himself from Ancient Egypt)

• Vishaps (based on sea dragons of myth)

Possible other Higher Beings are:

• The Twinned Foreigners

Divums and Demons

Divine Creatures are benevolent spirits, collectively called "divums:"

• Blessed Spirits (People that have ascended through supernatural means, whether it be through gods or personal willpower)

• Drakonic Horses (based on the Longma)

• Listening Beasts (based on the Diting)

• Medley Singers (based on the Luanniao)

• Motley Dancers (based on the Fenghuang)

• Royal Unicorns (based on Qilins)

• Scaled Specters (based on aosagibi)

• Serpent Birds (based on Quetzalcoatlus and amphitheres)

• Variegate Hound (based on Theows and reindeer)

• Warding Panther (based on the Pixiu)

I have never been consistently livid over something all day but congrats Harrison Butker, you’ve managed to keep me in a state of rage today.

There is nothing wrong with women who choose to be stay at home moms or being proud of your wife for being one. What doesn’t make a lick of sense to me as to why he took it upon himself to claim all these women who just spent four years working to earn degrees have been deceived and their only true purpose in life is being wives and mothers.

It makes me think of the line from Little Women (2019)

“I just feel like women... they have minds, and they have souls, as well as just hearts. And they've got ambition, and they've got talent, as well as just beauty.

And I'm so sick of people saying that love is just all a woman is fit for. I'm so sick of it.”

I think this is why I’m so angry. I’m so tired that in 2024, there is still a large population that seems to view women through this myopic lens. Why can’t they do both? Why can’t they choose not to have kids or not get married? Why is this presented as some sort of moral failing if a woman isn’t content being a “homemaker” as Butker calls it.

Why they invited a kicker of all people to speak at a graduation is beyond me. What academic achievement has he done to be chosen for this honor?

I just hate this man was given a platform to continue these toxic ideas about what a woman is supposed to do with her life.

Eden paused and turned to look over her shoulder, she saw the man pause as well, just only a few feet away from her in the crowded Central Square of Castle Town.

She had no time for this. She had very important errands to run for the now Queen Zelda, and this man was no exception, and he was also annoying as hell come to think of it. He had been following her all morning, and she knew that she needed to get away and fast.

Twilight gasped once she moved again, wivering her way passed the crowd of noble Hylians like Eden herself.

"Hey! Wait! Hold on!"

The man called out to her frantically, but the chattering and bustling of people drowned out his voice, but it didn't reach the girls ears.

"Wait! Please!"

Eden kept walking, no running further and further away from The Rancher. The eight other Links followed suit behind the wolf hero who was pushing his way through the crowd.

That was until Time stopped him in his tracks. He pulled him out of the bustling crowd of Hylians and pulled him to the side. He wirled him around to face Time completely, his eye narrowed, "Pup? What is the meaning of this?"

Twilight stuttered his words, eyes darting every which way, but the girl was long gone by now, "s-she," Twilight began to speak, but his words were nothing but a sputtering mess, "I-I know her! I-I know that girl!"

Time frowned, looking at his descendent with confusion and uncertainty. Twilight wasn't usually like this. He was stoic, protective, and strong, yet one of the people you go to when you need a shoulder to cry on. Time knew his descendent well enough now, he wasn't like a lost puppy.

"Pup?" Time asked, placing and hand on Twilight's broad shoulder.

"That girl," The Rancher gazed up at Time, he hesitated, his mind filled with images and memories, "s-she's my little sister."

So I have a speech impediment, right? I struggle with a hard 'r' and it comes out as a 'w'. So we end up with 'wiver' instead of river, for example. And it's more pronounced when I'm tired

Sami considers himself an eccentric combination of intellectual and practical qualities. While he values freedom and autonomy, he also craves stability and security. His appreciation for aesthetics drew him to his current job, as he believes it allows him to use his intellect and creativity. He often struggles with intimacy because of his tendency to be detached, despite yearning for a long-term partner.

B I O G R A P H Y

Sami was born to Daniel Avery, a traveling hunter that he never had a good relationship with, and Imani El-Amari, an Egyptian museum director from Cairo. He is the oldest of two, with his younger sister May currently studying how to be a chef in Paris, France. Both of them grew up knowing about their father's true lineage but neither of whom were excited to follow his footsteps.

That was, until Sami lost the love of his life, Ann Cai, to a dark witch. Since that day, he vowed to find her killer and get revenge, not knowing it was a light witch that caused Ann's death and Ann had sacrificed herself to save the same witch's life. Ann had always been kind and compassionate. Sometimes, too much for her own good. Whereas Sami had never been the same, always fixated and obsessed with his plans and the general concept of order.

When he arrived in Westray, he tried to avoid his late father's family, only approaching them whenever he wanted to learn something his old man never taught him. It didn't take him long to take over the Daily Dawn, considering his last name and his actual work experience, having been a journalist himself prior to his arrival in town.

These days, Sami sticks to his duties, biding his time until he can find his lover's killer. He believes Westray to be his best resource in his quest for revenge.

T R I V I A

Sami has rhotacism. He pronounces the letter "r" as the letter "w" when it's in the first syllable but he doesn't have a problem when it's the last syllable (eg, river as "wiver").

Sami studied journalism at the University of Phoenix in Arizona. He had met Ann Cai in Jiufen, Taiwan, when he traveled there for his first assignment writing for an online magazine. She perished in Phoenix, after leaving her home to be with him. They had been together for three years.

Sami's favorite food is shawarma, though he also fancies sushi (with sake), tacos (with tequila), and beef stroganoff (with vodka).

Sami has a pet "dog" named Lily.

Sami can drive but prefers not to.

Sami has a green thumb, with gardening as one of his favorite hobbies.

Sami has allergic rhinitis.

HIS MOTHER – While his father has already perished, his mother is still out there, having returned to Cairo, where she now works as a museum director once again. She has always been supportive of Sami but does not like the idea of him wasting his time on Ann's killer. “ Let go, my son. Let her, and you, rest. ”

HIS SISTER – May Avery El-Amari is currently using their mother's last name due to her dislike of their father's lineage. She is currently in Paris, France, learning to be a chef from one of its renowned masters. Like her mother, she is supportive of her big brother, too, but also wants to see Ann's killer get justice, having considered her as her sister. In time, she will get the urge to take to the streets and practice her hunter skills. Maybe she'll even visit Westray one of these days. “ Bro, I sent you something. Did you get it yet? ”

HIS ANCHORS – Anyone who can keep him connected to the real world, outside of his vengeful mindset. Sami sometimes forgets he needs friends, maybe even more than friends, to root him in place. “ When was the last time you ate? ”

HIS WRITERS – As the editor-in-chief of the Daily Dawn, Sami works with a lot of writers. Is he a good boss? Are you closer than officemates? Does he eat your yogurt that has a label with your name on it? He probably does. Now, go get him his coffee. “ Wait, what deadline? ”

This might contradict the GBA version, where Gort has a tragic story involving the ocean, and is not thrilled to battle at sea.

Of course, disliking to fight at sea isn't the same as dislike the sea, though. At the same time, Max’s diary also portrays him as seasick, so it does feel like the writers really had different ideas on this.

As usual, Yogurt gets always the same line in japanese, while the localization decides to remove the gag and pretend he's a normal character.

Finally, the JP version also has an extra tidbit about Queen Koron having sent the ship’s priest:
