(Ps: Hi my dear, I'm sorry this took so long. I originally planned to write Headcannons for Catra and Adora but I've been completely bed ridden with horrible physical pain so I hope it's okay I've only done Catra for now <3)

Catra:

🪽: Your wings and stance make you appear elegant, almost regal in a way that even most of the princesses don't. You're probably the first person in a long time to actually make Catra feel nervous.

🪽: One of the other more helpful things about your wings, other than the obvious flight ability, is that they're spell resistant and protect you from harmful attacks.

🪽: The first time Catra saw your wings for what they truly were, instead of folded behind your back, was when Shadow Weaver tried to electrocute Catra with her magic.

🪽: Catra knew all too well what was to come, so she closed her eyes and braced herself for the familiar shooting pain to strike through her body but it never came.

🪽: Instead she felt a heavy gust of wind blow in front of her and when she looked up all she could see were your raven wings spread out wide in front of her.

🪽: After a short altercation, you turned to face Catra with a scowl on your face, "Well...she's quite the bitch, isn't she?"

🪽: You two laugh about it for a moment before she notices a few burnt feathers where the spell had hit you and went to apologize only for you to laugh it off.

🪽: "Its okay, I lose feathers all the time, least this time it was for a good reason."

🪽: Catra likes to help you care for your wings and even helps you brush out old feathers with her claws.

🪽: You kinda act as her guard dog sometimes, especially when she doesn't want to be bothered, by sticking your wings out in front of her to block her from someone's veiw, or by holding your wings out from behind her to signal to people that she doesn't want to be followed.

🪽: When she's upset you'll both curl up in the safety of your wings as they shield you both from the outside world and you hold her in your arms.

🪽: but most nights when you sleep in her bed you'll just wrap her up in your wings like a big blanket and sleep with her like that.

🪽: Catra has a weird thing where she has to pick up your fallen feathers. She doesn't even like collect them, you always toss the feathers after, but she just can't stand them being on the floor so she has to pick them up behind you.

🪽: Now that would make sense if it was just in the horde, or your shared house, but she even picks them up in places she doesn't need to like the forest or battlefields. They just can't be on the floor!

🪽: and then after she picks all them up she gives them to you to throw away. Lol

🪽: Speaking of your shared house. Catra's not an overly neat person but she will get irritated if your feathers are just scattered all over the place and will threaten to pluck them all off if you don't clean up after yourself.

🪽: but it's all empty threats...

🪽: probably...

🪽: you should probably still pick them all up though...

🪽: Ever since you and Catra started officially dating you dreamed of taking her flying with you and letting her see the world through your eyes way above the clouds, but Catra took a little convincing and even after you convinced her, it still took a few tries.

🪽: "Are you sure you wanna do this? You don't have to if you're still scared."

🪽: "I'm not scared!! Just don't drop me, idiot!"

🪽: "Yeah yeah, I'm not gonna drop you" you sigh spread your large wings as you go behind her, "okay so I'm just gonna wrap my arms around your waist and-!"

🪽: "HOLY SHIT, PUT ME DOWN!!"

🪽: "Catra you're not even a foot off the grou-"

🪽: "I DONT CARE PUT ME THE FUCK DOWN NOW!"

🪽: "Alright, alright, s-stop squirming before I drop you on your ass!!"

🪽: But after sometime you both decided that the best way to get her in the air was probably to do it as fast as possible so--

🪽: You flew up from behind her, grabbed her by her waist, and off into the sky you went.

🪽: "You can open your eyes now, kitten~"

🪽: You obviously couldnt see her face but you could tell by the way she gripped onto you tighter that she had done as you asked.

🪽: "Hey, just trust me, okay? You're safe up here, I promise!"

🪽: You flew slow and steady for her, gracefully taking her above the tree tops.

🪽: "Everything...looks so small from up here."

🪽: "Yeah... actually, is it okay if I take you a bit higher? I wanna show you something cool!"

🪽: You felt her losen her grasp as she relaxed in your arms, "alright, sure."

🪽: With her permission, you flew even higher, the warmth of the sun comforting her as it's rays glimmered against your black feathers.

🪽: When you finally came up on one of the tallest peaks in the crimson waste you gently sat her on the ground before following, your wings coiling around her to pull her closer to you.

🪽: "What do you think?" You asked her barley above a whisper. You had seen the beautiful view multiple times before, but if a stranger had passed by even they would've known that you much more preferred the view of her...

🪽: Catra's eyes were wide with wonder as her tail swished on the ground behind her, "Wow it looks...so much better up here at night," She looks back at you with a mischievous grin, "You almost forget about all the traitors and bloodthirsty criminals down there-"

🪽: "Alright listen to me-" you started jokingly, your hand in a dramatic pose and it made her laugh.

🪽: "No but really, it...it looks nice, princess..."

🪽: You smiled warmly and laid your head on her shoulder as you both admired the glimmering lights of the crimson waste, the cool breeze, and the small specs of people passing by below you.

🪽: A few moments passed when you felt Catra pull you in by your waist and kiss the top of your head as she purred.

🪽: "Thank you for being me here, princess."

🪽: You smiled softly before turning her head so you could place a gentle, loving kiss upon her lips as your hand found her cheek and you lightly caressed it with the pad of your thumb.

To Wong Foo... a Brief Review

Hello and welcome to the first official post of Cinema’s a Drag! I will be talking about various movies and media that has showcased the popular queer art form known as DRAG over the years! This post is dedicated to the 1995 film To Wong Foo: Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar starring Patrick Swayze as Vida Boheme, Wesley Snipes as Noxeema Jackson, and Jon Leguizamo as Chi-Chi Rodruigez. The opening sequence shows the process of Vida and Noxeema getting into drag for the regional Drag Queen of The Year pageant and ends with the introduction of Chi-Chi being harassed on the street for presenting as femme and holding her wig in her hand. Vida and Noxeema are announced the dual winners and are crowned by the reigning queen Rachel Tensions (played by RuPaul) while sporting a sequined confederate flag gown. The first 10 minutes of this movie bring up 3 points for me:

The sequence of the queens “Dragging up” is familiar to anyone who has done drag, and it’s such a small and playful scene that doesn’t particularly advance the story, but it feels like we are on screen from Vida putting her wig on and saying, “Here comes Mama” to dancing along to I am Body Beautiful by Salt-N-Pepa while putting makeup on. It is very clear that there are drag queens on the producing team that helped share this story as authentically as possible (with straight cis-men playing queer characters, but that’s for a different analysis).

While upsetting, Chi-Chi’s first appearance on screen is also a familiar experience to drag queens and other queer people who present their gender identity differently than they are “expected” to. One could ask “why wouldn’t she wear the wig to ‘pass’?” Those who don’t do drag may not know that drag wigs can be fragile and even hard to see withWe were introduced to her character as a young and outspoken person who isn’t afraid to stand up for herself even when she’s being faced with a possible violent situation.

Rachel Tension’s entrance is as problematic as it is iconic. We all know the significance behind the confederate flag and have known for a long time. This speaks to one of the properties of drag that goes against “the norm” or what is appropriate. A black queen wearing a notoriously anti-black pattern with the name Rachel Tensions is a great example of a drag concept being perfectly executed… there’s humor, there’s a bit of shock, and a WHOLE lot of glamor.

To not spoil the WHOLE movie I want to cover some of my favorite or important moments and scenes.

When the queens are picking a car from the used car lot to drive from New York to Los Angeles, they see a yellow Cadillac convertible and are enamored by how beautiful and fabulous they look in it. The car dealer explicitly warns them that it won’t get them to California, and they should take a (might I add dingy looking) gray Toyota Corolla. The queens ask the age-old question, “Style or Substance?” and a high energy driving montage of the Queens cruising down the highway.

When Vida drives through her affluent hometown, Chi Chi, who grew up in a low-income neighborhood, could not wrap her head around why Vida would leave a place with so much to offer. Vida explains “Vida gave all of this up to be Vida.” This gives us a window into Vida’s life and her queer roots. Many queer people come from many different walks of life, but there has unfortunately been a constant in many young LGBTQ+ peoples upbringing of being turned away from their own homes just for being queer.

During the road trip, Noxeema starts to read Chi Chi for not being experienced or polished enough to be a drag queen. In this (outdated and less than politically correct) scene, the ladies set up Chi Chi’s character progression for “polishing her up” to be what drag is to them. This scene stuck with me personally because when I first saw it, it gave me an opportunity to look at my own drag progression up to that point and see where I feel I am. I feel a sense of accomplishment every time I “level up” my drag in my own way.

Sherriff Dollard character is a very interesting take on homophobes. The blatant hypocrisy and disrespect with a hint of curiosity bubbling beneath the surface really makes him more comical than offensive (except for the racial slurs). From groping Ms. Vida to calling them perverts for wearing dresses. When he went to a bar, he was rambling about gay people in detail about what he thinks they do in private, which could be more of a window into his imagination or even history, although it’s never explicitly stated.

While the queens are getting to know the townspeople, the women mention their upcoming “Strawberry Social” and the queens help them put together a “girls day out” with makeovers at the beauty parlor, and new outfits at the local store. I specifically love when Noxeema falls in love with a burnt orange/auburn fringe 2 piece set that is also very much my taste.
