and, dude, I wasn’t saying you said I can’t use any analogies. I was talking about that one specific analogy of slavery. Not analogies in general lol. What I was saying was if you think slavery is a bad analogy for pro-lifers to use in regards to abortion, then you shouldn’t use that analogy for abortion yourself. It’s hypocritical :) Especially when it makes less sense on your side of the debate. The analogy I was using isn’t bad, you are just failing to understand it. Telling people if they don’t like something then the solution is don’t do it themselves, not stop others from doing it is fine in general, but it stops being a good point when the thing in question is harming or killing others. With abortion, you are telling someone if they don’t like babies being killed, then the solution is not to kill babies ourselves but let other people do what they want. It’s like telling someone if they don’t like slavery or murder then don’t enslave or murder anyone but let others do what they want. You don’t accept the premise and I don’t expect you to accept the premise yourself, but I do expect you to try to understand where pro-life people are coming from and why that argument is a bad one and won’t have any sort of influence on our position.

Organ donation and abortion are two entirely different things even if they both involve organ use. Thinking that the only difference between abortion and organ donation is whether or not you get to choose if your organs are used suggests you know very little about about organ donation and abortion. Organ donation is voluntarily giving an organ to a person who needs one. Abortion is knowingly and intentionally removing a perfectly healthy, developing human being from the environment it needs to live, killing it in the process. I understand you are trying to justify this act because the developing baby uses your organs for a few months, but the situations are drastically different.

I know you’re being sarcastic but it just looks dumb because you literally just explained why denying abortion isn’t slavery lol. How are we causing anyone to lose their freedom of choice of action? I didn’t cause the pregnancy. The person who is pregnant chose to engage in acts that lead to pregnancy. I didn’t force pregnancy on anyone but I don’t have a problem denying people the choice of killing their children. Equating denial of abortion to slavery means that you think all laws are enslavement. Laws against first-degree murder? Well that’s enslavement because it causes someone to lose their freedom of choice of action. Laws against drunk driving? By your logic that’s enslavement because it causes someone to lose their freedom of choice of action. I disagree that telling people they aren’t allowed to kill their baby is equal to enslavement.

Denying use of your organs in an organ donation scenario does not kill the person. That’s the big difference you’re refusing to acknowledge here. In an organ donation scenario, do you get to walk up to the person and stab them after denying the organ? Because that is what is happening in abortion. It’s like actively murdering the person who needs the organ. You already agreed to let the baby use your organs when you got pregnant. You can’t revoke your consent once the deed is done, especially if revoking consent demands that you intentionally kill another person.

We didn’t clear that up. You simply reiterated a statement you said earlier with no explanation to support it. If you think the goal of an abortion isn’t to kill someone then you’re the one that needs to do research.

Sorry but I'm not going to accept you as an authority on the subject, especially since you seem quite ignorant. Allow me to explain what an abortion is to help you understand it better and then I would love for you to explain to me how it doesn’t kill a single kid. Because if doesn’t kill anyone then I’m not against it, but, sadly, the science of the matter doesn’t seem to agree with your assertion.

A fetus is the scientific term for the unborn offspring of a mammal. It is typically used to reference an unborn human baby eight weeks after conception. By this time there has already been a lot of rapid development. The neural tube has closed, the head is developed, the heart is beating and other organs have developed, but the bones are still very weak and fragile. The CDC tells us that majority of abortions happen under 13 weeks, and other sources put the majority of them around 8 weeks or less, so much of this development has already occurred by the time people are getting abortions. So by all accounts the unborn baby is alive and growing at this point.

According to Planned Parenthood, the most common type of in-clinic abortion method is the suction abortion aka vacuum aspiration. The suction catheter is inserted into the uterus and the suction machine is turned on, which has a force up to 20x more powerful than a vacuum cleaner. The force of the suction power literally tears the baby apart, pulling it into the tube and forcing it into the suction machine. The abortionist then has to back in to the uterus and do some scraping to make sure none of the baby’s body has been left behind in the womb. At this point, the unborn baby has been ripped apart by a machine and is no longer alive and growing. It is dead. So please explain how abortion doesn’t kill anyone because I would be very interested in this new mind-blowing information that you’ve discovered that would contradict all biology and medical science that we have to date!

Like, yes, genius, I get that the woman is getting an abortion because she doesn’t want to be pregnant, but if we look at abortion medically, what it does to enable the woman not to be pregnant is kill what she is pregnant with. That’s how the pregnancy is ended, sweetie. If the baby is not dead at the end of the abortion, then the abortion was not successful. Surely someone who is as smart as you think you are would know that much at least.

If the growing organism isn’t killed, you haven’t had an abortion. You are either very, very stupid or in a crazy amount of denial. Please tell me what kind of abortions don’t kill the fetus. I would be so happy to learn that such abortions existed.

I’m not offended by your analogy because it was a very poor one that didn’t make any sense. I don’t get offended by other people’s inability to make good analogies. The archive for the Reader Favorites chat that occurred from April 1st, 2020 to April 7th, 2020. The chat focused on the following question:

How do you feel about creators spoiling their own stories, and how does it effect how you read the comic?

As someone who's both reader & a creator, it can be really hard to restrain giving spoilers. But it could also be that they are excited to make this story and they wanna 'get to the spoilers' really soon. But if you are such creator, an idea is to find friends whom you can trust, don't mind giving critique/give spoilers to. As a reader it can be slight disappointment to learn about spoilers in a comic you were invested in and still reading. At this point, I might think, I'm going to get out of the conversation on the spoilers and wait until more content is made(edited)

Being someone who was raised by a parent who wanted me to spoiler movies for them if I saw it first, I don't care about stories being spoiled for me. Experiencing the scene is usually very different than being told what it is, also once I get to that spoiled scene I've already forgotten about it thanks to my Quality short-term memory. Honestly, I would totally go all out spoiling my own comic, but I know most people hate that stuff so I don't out of respect. There have been a few times when I've talked about spoilery stuff not really knowing if it would be considered a spoiler, or because I'm talking about something else that is related and I have to spoil a bit for the topic.

Personally it depends on how plot heavy the spoiler is. If it's something like what food/clothing/interests the characters have, I don't mind so much. But if it's something like who is going to die, who falls in love with who....I think the experience would be slightly more diminished.

Like @Joichi [Hybrid Dolls] said, I usually share the spoilers only with close friends, particularly those who know how to give their input. It's important to get feedback, but choosing who you tell is very important.

Personally, on other people's comics, I usually only refer to what's in the comic proper. Not too fond of having to read supplemental material, like creator QA's.

I know they can be nice for some readers, but I genuinely don't like it when the knowledge established in a QA or so is assumed to be known in the comic proper without ever being mentioned there.

I'm having difficulty articulating my reasons, but for me, the creator spoiling things is different from a reader spoiling the same things. And reader-supplied spoilers can also be VERY different based on context and tone. I hate it when people spoil things for others out of malice (like when people were buying ad spaces, just after that one Harry Potter book came out, to broadcast [THIS IMPORTANT CHARACTER] DIES!!!!), even if I don't care about the work being spoiled.

Going back to creator-supplied spoilers........ it's something I can't relate to, as a creator myself? (Sharing spoilers in private is one thing, but if they're posting it in public...) This is going to sound negative and I apologize in advance. When I see a creator laying out the big spoilers in public, it makes me worry that maybe they prefer to talk instead of actually making the comic -- that maybe they won't make it to the ending. I'm happy to be proven wrong, of course. And there is no shame in dropping a comic before you get to the end (I've done that myself!). But yeah, public spoilers is one of those things that makes me worry.(edited)

when it comes to reading spoilers, Ive never really minded. Granted, I'd rather have spoilers more towards "what to expect" because I otherwise will get a lot of anxiety. A bit of the way in, I want to know if something is going to be worth my time to get invested into, or if I should ignore the stress and just be along for the ride. Being told things like "this is a tragedy and you shouldnt expect to have a happy ending" and "everything will work out in the end" really calms me down when I'm reading. Getting small spoilers about character things, inconsequential plot stuff, etc. don't really bother me at all, but yeah I'm with keiiii where if someone is sharing the ending of their story halfway through I worry theyre not interested in actually working to get there.

I'll personally share in small private settings whatever people want to know, but I refuse to in a public setting share what I'd consider to be a big spoiler. I'll share small character things or vague plans and some worldbuilding stuff, but I don't see those as spoilers really.

@Deo101 [Millennium] Setting expectations correctly is very different from spoilers, I think, and more in direction of "what genre does that story fall under". Like a romance means happy (for now) ending for the main couple - even if you might end up disagreeing if an ending is happy.

It ain't a spoiler that a space opera has some kind of space travel, that kind of thing.

For me spoilers tend to cover plot specifics, not genre and general tone. That's setting expectations.

Yeah I do want to remind again here this should be about experiences as a reader, not as a creator. And I know there can be a bit of bleed over, but there's a point where the focus changes too much.

I think this depends on who it's being spoiled to. If creators want to spoil their stories to close personal friends in private convos, I think that's A-okay. Even as a writer I do that, because it's good to have people to bounce ideas off of. And I think for more creators it's the same. Also, sometimes you just want to have a fun chat to de-stress and it's easier with people who you can tell all your secrets too. If it's being spoiled to people who asked for spoilers, that's also another matter where I think it's mostly fine. In fact, depending on what's spoiled, it can really help drive engagement. For example, if a comic is "spoiling" lore that has a significant bearing on the plot without revealing the exact how of it all. However, then we come to the matter of major public spoilers, which there are tons and tons of creators who do this. On the one hand, that's the creator's right to do so, so a part of me feels like embracing the can't be helped mindset. But, if I'm being brutally honest, as a reader 90% of the time it just kills all engagement with the story for me. I mean, what's the point of reading the story if I can just find out everything in a fraction of the time? Plus, for me personally, I enjoy theorizing and trying to guess events, mysteries, etc. And if I'm being told the answers, that basically ruins like 80% of how I engage with content. I'm also confident I'm not the only reader who feels this way, so personally speaking I don't think it's a wise decision no matter how juicy or agonizing it is to hold in the spoiler.

For me, spoilers don't mean much. I'm still going to read the comic regardless. Now I spoiling something is funnier, because it takes me forever to get to the section which I spoiled, so something I spoiled would take a year to get to, and then everyone forgot the spoiler anyways. XD

I have already spoiled endings to my friends about one of my comic projects, and three months in they are already like "I forgot about that." So maybe it's just my readers haha.

@keii’ii (Heart of Keol) About the talking vs. finishing the comic thing. If I decided to spoil it would be because I was impatient to discuss. Like, right now I have the worst itch just to talk about the climax and ending to discuss all the little details, what I could do better next time, if I should put trigger warnings on specific chapters, and/or how my readers feel. Would it keep me from making it to the end? Nah, executing and seeing the results are not the same as describing them. The emotions a reader has can change vastly when they experience an event vs. read a description, it's not as fulfilling... or as painful. At least that is my perspective, neither I nor my readers would get the full experience from me describing a major event/ending. I don't know how it would be for other creators though. Lol

Great discussions here! If I’m the reader, I’d prefer not to be spoiled and enjoy the story as is. It helps me as both a consumer and a creator to see how the plot twists are planted and revealed. As a beta reader, though, I would need to know the story to give suggestions on how to execute said spoilers but this is more of a creator-to-creator basis. I totally get the itch to share and I think having betareaders/comic confidantes are great for satisfying that need while getting constructive ways to evaluate them.

Agreed. I think having at least one person within your reader circle who is privy to deeper details can be very helpful, both for editing and for motivation Especially if there are story details that won't be shared for years. It's a good way to prevent 'leakage'

There was a rl friend I had who got too busy and lost interested, and someone online who I talked to about smaller stuff, but I don't like bothering people. Especially since my comic is sooo... my comic. Lmao!

Gosh, I would be the perfect person for someone to confide in about their comic, I would totally forget about the spoilers after waking up the next day.

Tbh I don't mind if a story is spoiled to me. I'm the type of person who is like "okay so that's how it ends? How does it get there?" and I would be more upset if the creator spills those important parts that reach the end result. Though, when explaining my comic plots and details to my irl friends and beta readers, it's more of a planning session than things said in stone. Basically if it's something that I've not written down and could be a spoiler, yet I talk about it and those spoiler squeals aren't in the final scripts though. If it's an important detail and is a spoiler, I will withhold that information till the time comes.

I don't know what I'd think because I've never seen a webcomic I liked share spoilers before. I get the feeling that a "serious" writer would keep their twists private because they know they can show their plot better than they can tell it, if that makes sense. Even Sfeer Theory, a comic I really like that iirc did much of its brainstorming online, shut down their old worldbuilding posts once they got their actual comic started.

Personally, I'm not hugely opposed to spoilers, though it depends on the context. A lot of new webcomics when they're just started out will often only be able to market themselves with illustrations of scenes or dynamics that haven't quite happened yet, just by virtue of being so early on, and that's fine-- though increasingly less necessary the more Comic is released. The only kind of spoiler I might be actively mad about is if a comic whose appeal hingest largely on a central mystery or suspense spoiled The Answer, but I feel like most of the writers creating stories like that are conscious of this and keep that sort of thing under lock. There's also a big reason why I personally try not to share spoilers (and why I try not to put much stock by any spoilers I see posted by other webcomic creators, in case their process is like mine)-- which is that, basically anything that is more than a month ahead of the pages I've already drawn, is very likely to change substantially. I rewrite future plot points all the dang time. So if I shared something as a 'spoiler', there's only a 50/50 chance of that plot point actually coming to pass (unless it's one of the 4/5 big central plot linchpins); any readers waiting for it may come away disappointed, lol.

Def agree with Vare on this one. However, sometimes when a writer tells details to the point of no surprise in the comic whatsoever, that usually breaks immersion and interest for me. I've had a couple stories stagnate from having their plots revealed by the writer, and when the story hinges on that being a selling point, it tends to be very dissapointing to have done. Unless the story is character driven/ has characters charming enough to capture readers, i would def avoid spoiling the main plot points of the story if they can

It's hard to say how I'd feel because I don't really see writers post, like "X dies in the end" or whatever. Like it's not that common an occurrence, at least for comics I follow. What is common in my experience is creators posting ship art for characters that haven't shown up yet (thus spoiling that these are characters who will show up at some point, and at least have some interaction with each other). And with regards to that... I dunno. Like, my mentality as a reader/watcher of things is that a character doesn't "exist" until I see them in the story. Like, if I see a character in an anime OP, I'll be like "oh that character looks cool, I can't wait until I meet them". That is, I don't consider myself as having "met" them yet - I need the story as context. (for the record, that's true for me as a creator too - i know plenty of creators figure out their OCs' personality & backstory first before figuring out what sort of story they work in, and that's valid, but I can't imagine working like that) So anyway, to me creators posting OC art before they appear in the story is less "oh, i've been spoiled on what these OCs will do" and more "oh, i can't wait to read the story that these characters are involved in"

Come Hell or Helwater - Part Eight

Rain pattered against the window while Brianna sat at the table in the corner with Isobel working through a set of simple mathematics problems. She didn’t have the heart to tell Isobel that she’d mastered both multiplication and long division two years prior. Instead she worked her way through them slowly, allowing herself the fun of observing the others in the room while they thought she was thoroughly engrossed by the numbers on the page.

Brianna had found soon after her arrival at Helwater that she couldn’t help but like Isobel—she couldn’t have borne pretending she was so far behind in her studies otherwise. But Isobel’s sweetness could become grating if not for the presence of her sister, Geneva. It was Geneva who knew exactly how to push Isobel’s agreeableness to the brink, to coax a few less-than-kind remarks out of Isobel—and then offer reassurance that she hadn’t been so unkind as to require begging anyone’s pardon.

There was more to Geneva that Brianna found mesmerizing, however. Quiet moments when she managed a glance at the older girl and it was clear Geneva didn’t realize she was being watched. In those moments she looked the way Brianna had felt when Mama and Daddy had told her the great and terrible Truths of her life—first, that Daddy wasn’t going to live with them anymore, he was going to live with his special friend, Sandy, and, just a short time after that, when her mother informed her that Daddy wasn’t her “real” father. From what Brianna could tell, it was partly Geneva’s parents who were causing her to look that way, but not because they were breaking up. No, the lady Geneva was going to be married soon and anyone could see she didn’t want to get married.

But that was why there were beginning to be so many extra people at the estate. They were guests visiting for the upcoming wedding. Several older relatives of the Dunsanys had taken to sitting with Lady Dunsany in the main sitting room while the younger guests preferred to gather in the drawing room. It was in the adjoining library that Isobel was giving Brianna her lessons but the door was kept open so Isobel might pop in and make her necessary appearances every so often. Brianna thought Isobel perhaps preferred the quieter library to the group in the drawing room.

Brianna enjoyed peeking up at them through the doorway. She could only see a portion of one setee and a fragment of the floor to ceiling windows behind but Geneva was partial to planting herself on that setee and as the bride to be, she frequently had company beside her—usually one of the two British soldiers who had startled her mother in the forest that day they’d arrived. The younger of those two often turned to glance through the same open doorway at her, which always made her flush and look down at her paper. Or was he looking at Isobel? Brianna peeked up to see Isobel looking flustered as well, no doubt aware of the soldier’s piercing gaze.

Even if Brianna could convince herself that the young man was paying his attentions to Isobel, all it took was Geneva seeing her sister’s blush to throw a wrench in Brianna’s plans of going unnoticed.

“Isobel,” Geneva called rising from the setee and floating to the door. “Aren’t you going to join us? As the sister of the bride it’s part of your duties to help me entertain my guests,” she teased with a playful giggle and glance over her shoulder. “John, Hal, won’t you help me coax Isobel into joining us?”

Isobel sighed but smiled at Brianna before pushing herself up from her chair at the table. “You’re doing wonderfully,” Isobel assured her. “Keep working on this set of problems and I’ll be back shortly to check your progress.”

Brianna nodded and then watched as Isobel glared at her sister who stood in the doorway with a satisfied grin on her face.

“Really John, you must ask Isobel about her latest obsession with playing governess,” Geneva continued, the conversation still drifting in for Brianna to overhear since the door between the rooms remained open. “It’ll be something to keep her occupied when she no longer has me around to entertain her.”

Isobel spoke too quietly for Brianna to hear but from Geneva’s subsequent, “Oh come, I’m only playing,” she assumed the young lady had rebuked her.

“It is the curse of younger siblings to always be tormented by the older,” John remarked, lightening the mood even as he too scolded Geneva.

Brianna set her pencil aside and leaned forward over the table, straining to see if she could catch a glimpse of them but they must be standing near the fireplace. The rain outside was unrelenting in a spring that was already slow about taking root. That was one of the things about this time that Brianna found most frustrating and quietly terrifying—how cold it was without proper, modern heating and how afraid she was that she would get too close to the hearth or that she’d knock over a candle and go up in flames.

“I know Isobel’s attempts to improve the poor child arrive from the best of intentions,” Geneva assured the others and Brianna could hear the eye roll in her tone. “I just think that when it comes to the staff and their families, it’s not our place to interfere. They have their lives and we have ours.”

“And the fact that their livelihood depends upon our whims doesn’t matter?” Isobel challenged more vocally, clearly surprising the others.

Brianna rose from her seat and tiptoed closer to the door to hear better and maybe sneak a better angle through the door so she could see them while remaining hidden in the shadows. If she was truly lucky, there’d be a mirror on one wall that would let her watch their reflections—she couldn’t remember if there was a mirror in the drawing room though.

“So long as they’re paid for their services, I’m not sure I understand to what you might object,” the older one—Hal, Geneva had called him—said gently.

“They require decent pay to support their families,” Isobel agreed, “and sometimes they’re compensated in other forms—for instance, housing or their meals—but what about their other needs, especially for their children? Is it not our duty to guide them towards being productive members of society where their parents are either lacking the means or the opportunity?”

“And what makes you think the Mackenzies are lacking the means and opportunity?” Geneva countered. “Did you ask them if they wanted it when you asked for their permission? Shall we ask the little lady now?”

Brianna panicked for a moment as she heard Geneva’s footsteps crossing toward the door but her instincts quickly kicked in. She started walking for the door herself and nearly collided with Geneva.

“Sorry,” Brianna muttered, backing away. “I was just coming to ask Miss Isobel if she might excuse me to go help my mother. Miss Isobel should be spending her time with your company, not with me just now.”

“I don’t mind at all, really,” Isobel insisted but Geneva made a dismissive gesture, keeping her eyes on Brianna.

“The child is quite right, don’t you agree, John? It’s terribly rude of Isobel first to ignore your presence and then to ignore her young charge’s. If she had a nursemaid, we might turn her over to so she doesn’t inhibit her mother in her work. Should we engage one for her, Isobel?” Geneva asked, looking over her shoulder at her sister. “Would that be more of the means and opportunities that our hired servants are lacking? I suppose we’ll just have to keep an eye on her ourselves then. Come child,” Geneva turned back to Brianna with an overly sweet smile. “Join us in the drawing room and we’ll try not to bore you too terribly.”

Brianna stood her ground, staring expressionlessly at Geneva.

“Geneva…” Hal said quietly, stepping toward her.

“Quiet little thing, aren’t you,” Geneva murmured, her attention still fixed on Brianna. “Do you speak at all?”

“I’m ten, not two,” Brianna replied, unamused even as the color began to rise in Geneva’s cheeks. “And my mother always told me if I didn’t have anything nice to say I shouldn’t say anything at all. I’d rather spend my time somewhere I can have a conversation. Thank you, Miss Isobel, for the lesson. I’ll see myself out.”

Brianna kept her ears pricked for their reactions as she turned on her heel and went to the table to retrieve her things before exiting through the door at the side that led to the servant’s passage and from there down to the kitchen. She heard one stifled chuckle (Hal) and Isobel’s gentle, “You were the one who provoked her.”

The sound of a slight commotion drew most of the others back into the drawing room—a footman announcing the arrival of another guest.

“Daniel,” Hal exclaimed in joy. “It’s a miracle you made it in this weather. You ought to have stayed at your inn until it cleared.”

“If he did that he might not have arrived in time at all,” Geneva declared, brushing away the awkwardness of being put in her place by a ten-year-old girl. “The way it looks now it could rain through the next fortnight and my wedding’s one week away. He knew I’d never forgive him if he wasn’t here.”

“Always said Gordon was like a brother to me so I see it as my brotherly duty to make sure everything stays on schedule,” a new voice chimed in.

“Well you might’ve been as a brother to Gordon but you’ve hardly been a brother to either of his sisters,” Geneva objected with a laugh. “You haven’t written a word to either Isobel or myself in over a year.”

Brianna snuck one final peek through the door to the drawing room.

John, the soldier who had come walking through the field with her mother that day, was the only one watching her as she made her exit.

“Bree,” Claire gasped as her daughter barged into the cottage, dripping wet from her brief run through the rain from the main house. “For heaven’s sake, what are you doing here? I was going to fetch you back after your lesson was finished. You’re soaked to the bone.”

“Well you might wind up back there later treating their latest guest. Sounds like he rode a ways through the rain and I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes down sick from it,” Brianna said, shaking her hair like a wet dog.

“Sassenach,” Jamie called from the cottage’s back entrance. “Do ye have anything hereabouts we could eat? Thought it might be nicer to have our midday meal alone together rather than trek through the muck to the main house. And as Bree’s occupied there with Miss Isobel…”

Claire cleared her throat loudly soon after he began and spoke over him, “We’re in here, Jamie. Bree’s just got back too. We hadn’t addressed the subject of lunch yet.”

Jamie came around the corner, his face pink and dripping with the rain that had soaked his hair.

“Bree,” he said with a smile. “Is it wet enough for ye out there? I ken I must look and feel like a half-drowned cat.”

“Well it is raining cats and dogs,” Brianna remarked without enthusiasm.

“Why don’t you fetch some dry things from your trunk and change in our room,” Claire offered.

“I suppose we won’t be using it after all,” Jamie whispered in her ear as he brushed a kiss against Claire’s cheek.

“I had brought a leftover side of ham from the house after tending the cook the other day,” Claire continued, ignoring Jamie, “and there’s cheese I had set aside as well. We’ll see what kind of meal we can make with that and maybe it will let up enough tonight for a larger meal with the others at the main house.”

When Brianna had closed their bedroom door behind her to change, Claire turned into Jamie’s arms and stood on her toes to give him a kiss.

“When the wedding’s over and their guests have gone home, things will calm down enough that we’ll have a little more time for ourselves,” she whispered, pulling away from him as his hands drifted down to her backside. “Not just the two of us, but the three of us.”

“Except for when we have time just the two of us to get back to work on making that three of us into a four, aye?”

“Aye,” Claire smiled and blushed. “Though by my watch we’ve spent a fair bit of time working at that already.”

Hello, I apologize in advance if this is excessively long, but something happened today that pissed me tf off. I am a very private person. I do not give out contact info to anyone I dont want to have it. A month ago, my sperm donor gave my phone number to his parents without permission. I was pissed, but my husband convinced me to let it go so i did. Today I get a phone call from a number I dont know so I let it go to voicemail. Apparently people who shouldnt have my number to begin with gave 1/

Not only did these people disown me for not conforming to their religion and beliefs of how I should be, they only ever pretended to give a shit about me or my sibling to give the appearance of being good people. Theyve been attempting to convert me to their religion since I was born, and I dont believe in their god. My entire family was

3/ and is abusive and distant, and im so angry about the whole thing. They never cared about me. I cut them out for a reason. I intend to change my phone number soonish, and I'm also debating revenge bc I'm a petty bitch lol but I just dont know really what i should do. Asking for my information to be kept private gets me nowhere, as I have asked several times for it not to be given out and it still happens. I'm just kinda lost, and could use some advice. This is so infuriating, no wonder you’re upset!

In terms of your sperm donor- is he someone who you intend on keeping in your life? If he is, I would recommend having a conversation with him about boundaries. He needed to ask your permission before sharing your number with his parents, that’s a complete violation of privacy! It sucks when you have to “parent a parent”, but in this case, it sounds like he needs to be set straight if he’s going to continue being in your life. I don’t think this is a conversation that you need to have in person to be perfectly honest, a long, well-thought out text will do the trick. I’m afraid if you talk to him about this in person he might get automatically defensive instead of sitting with what you’ve said. A text gives him an opportunity to think before responding.

Again- if you don’t want him in your life, I wouldn’t bother with it.

In terms of the church- I can relate. I ran into an ex-coworker when she and her church group were making rounds at my old apartment complex. I was nice to her (because we had just recently worked together) so she began to show up routinely at my home to try to talk to me about her religion. It made me incredibly uncomfortable. Like. She showed up six different times. After I moved, she ran into me again, and asked where I lived and I was evasive- but she FOUND me! Possibly because she had access to check addresses at our work. Anyways, she showed up five times and rang the doorbell, and I never answered. SUPER creepy and a violation of my privacy. I truly am a nice person, and it was 100% used against me. My telling her multiple times that I had no interest in her religion and did not like her stopping by did nothing. Cutting all contact was the only thing that worked.

I think the best thing to do is to just cut out all contact. I think changing your number is a good idea! Even if you have a serious conversation with these people at this church, they may stills see any contact (regardless of the content) as an opportunity to convert you. Ignore them, don’t respond, and don’t engage!

the worst is when you (as poor people) show what you eat and then those same people tell you how gross or boring our food is

Like im in a good position where i can afford some treats. but my bill without those splurges is significantly lower when i eat beans, rice, curry, pasta, soups, vegetables, fruit, potatoes, etc

Like first of all, these dont have to be boring and can be delicious. But even if it was boring and not as tasty, why would you talk about poverty prices and meals and then look down on someone for their poverty meals

Like this shouldnt be a conversation of shame, on either side.

This should be education. a conversation. And also an acknowledgment that every situation is different.

Your poverty is different from others. Your nescessities are different from others. And that can include animal products

But its one of those things you should still engage in conversation with and even try and have fun finding alternatives if you are able

For example, on a similar scenario: I have a gluten intolerance, i dread it (even though i do eat gluten. bread is a necessity to me for some meals as odd as that sounds). And though i could continue eating gluten without any consideration of my self, i have made efforts to go without bread or switch to gluten free if i can.

Actually thinking about my food helped me have a better relationship with it, and appreciate it and have fun with it. And ive heard other people say this (not just vegans)

Its always good to question and challenge that that youre used to or were taught

and even if you dont go 100% plant based (which not everyone can), its still worth actively thinking about what (if at all) you can change

because again, veganism is about doing what you personally can do.

But i think even those we tell this to, to do your best, they get defensive because they know they arent trying that much.

And im not about to say who is or isnt trying their best. Because im not you. I cant say whats a necessity or what is difficult even if we are in the exact same position

But the defensiveness translates into attacks in any way they can, which results in making fun of poor vegans food choices.

I just wish people would be genuine when talking about their worries with veganism, their situation. Like dont talk at us, talk with us

because many were in the same boat. I mean ive seen hunters who were big on meat and cheese later go plant based. Which is always really suprising to me. Especially when they dont even substitute for meat and cheese.

And thats because conversation. Talk about cultural foods. Talk about EDs. Talk about poverty and food deserts. Talk about racism, colonialism, etc.

but you have to also listen. Listen to poor vegans, black vegans, native vegans, disabled vegans, vegans with EDs, etc.

idk how to better explain what i mean. I just hate seeing non vegans upset bc when i see their reasons its always something thats misinformed about what veganism is

and why i hate it is because 1. misinformation but 2. because its like...the way im being perceived? someone hearing im vegan and instantly feel in a way, unsafe because of what they think my views are.

like im trying to take away something they enjoy, or tear down their culture or religion, or judge them or berate them.

and honestly? some of that i used to do. but thats not vegan. because veganism in its definition states "possible and practical"

so we cant judge you for what you can or cant do. because its right in the definition

and if someone goes against that then call them out. help us create the standard. call out ppl who claim to be vegan, but who harass/judge/etc you for your necessities.

But, you should often ask yourself what your necessity is. Just like you should always ask yourself about your gender. It helps you learn more about who you are and what you do, and sometimes you might realize how much is just habit

But yeah if i go any longer this will be trippled the length im sorry

I get so tired of hearing that veganism is prohibitively expensive when I KNOW I've survived on tighter food budgets than a lot of the people saying that. Especially when that same person then goes on to talk about "eating local grass fed beef". "Too expensive" clearly has vastly different meanings to us. You talk about bougie HEAVILY prohibitive shit like that then wanna tell me my lifestyle is only for rich people. Ok.

“Ok, that’s it! I’ve had enough of this punk, going around and giving people a ‘reality check’. Well, I think its his turn to have one.” Zackery huffed, his lips drawn back into a snarl as he began to pull his hair back into a ponytail.

“Zackery, no! You are not going to do anything except sit down and cool off.�� Kodo stated, standing up and crossing her arms, her vines sprouting out and wrapping tightly around his waist. “Zackery, you are part of Team Harmony and you’re trying to become a hero, going around and punching anyone and everyone who pisses you off is only going to end up hurting you in the end and it wont solve anything.” She added, huffing out hot air from her nose and narrowing her eyes at him.

Zackery simply snarled before yanking at her vines, forcing Kodo to stumble toward him. “And what about you?! All you end up doing is just shut down and get all passive, basically rolling over whenever a problem comes up that you cant figure out how to solve! Dont you care at all that the guy you, supposedly had a crush on, told you to fuck off?? Doesn’t it bother you that he’s happy with someone else while you did absolutely nothing and just sat out in the background?!” He shouted, waving his arms around, clenching and unclenching his fists over and over as his anger start to boil over.

“Yes.. no... I dont know dammit! I failed and messed up and made things worse, so just let me forget about it and move on already for Christ sake! As long as he’s happy, I’m happy, who cares? Whatever. Besides, the key word here is HAD. I HAD a crush on him, right now, I dont, so I dont care. And why do you care anyway? None of this involves you, none of this is about you!” Seemed anger was contagious since Kodo was starting to engage Zackery in a screaming contest. By now, her vines had released Zackery but they were flinging around, mimicking Kodo’s arm movements. Finally, she stood on her toes, chest puffed out and glared up at Zackery, fists balled up and at her side, shaking.

“Why do I care? Why do I care?! Kodo for fuck sake, has over 10 years of friendship mean so little to you that you have to question why I would care about someone telling you to fuck off? What am I to you? A knight, your brother, or just a fucking joke?!” Zackery trailed off, having started off yelling and stomping closer to her but has he started to piece things together, his shoulders sagged, lips forming a small and thin line, eyes glancing at her and then at the ground before he just sighed and shook his head.

With a huff, Zackery spun on his heels and stomped over to the door, only for Tachi to have had enough of this screaming contest and stepped in, blocking Zackery’s way.

“And where do you think you’re going?” Tachi asked, looking down at Zackery with arms crossed.

“And just who the fuck do you think you are? You really think you’re something all high and mighty huh? Look at you, looking down at me as if I was nothing more but just a nuisance... thats what I am to you people, right? A good for nothing nuisance that does nothing but brings trouble?”

“Zackery, please, lets just talk about this.”

“Zack, you’re a major nuisance right now. Just turn around and sit down before you blow a fus-.” Tachi ordered, only to get cut off by a sudden punch to the face. The sucker punch was strong enough to knock Tachi back and bump against the door before he regained his footing. Rubbing his now sore jaw, Tachi glared at Zackery, clenching his fist.

“So I’m a major nuisance huh? Finally glad that we can have some fucking truth around here. You want to know what I think about you!? All you do is walk around as if you own the place, all high and mighty just because you have a real special quirk, AND YOU DONT EVEN USE ALL OF IT! Not to mention, you never really talk to us about anything that goes on in that thick skull of yours. If we’re supposed to be a team, you sure do have a funny way of showing your team spirit.” Zackery ranted, getting all up in Tachi face, who was doing all he could to stop himself from knocking the fireball out.

“Zackery please, that’s enough. Can we just cool off and move on?” Kodo asked, hesitantly approaching her friend only to jump back when he spun around to face her.

“Dont think you’re getting out of this scot-free. You’re just as bad as he is when it comes to your secrets. I get it, I’m a dumb fuck, I know I am, and its clear thats how the two of you see me, but I’m not blind. You like to go around pretending that you’re this open book, almost as if you’re better than all of us, but I know the truth, you hide so many things in between the lines. I am just so sick and tired of you two keeping everything a secret and treating me like I’m the dumbest fucking hazard there is in the world!” As Zackery ranted and scream, Kodo slowly backed away, wanting to keep as much distance between herself and her angry friend.

Finally, Tachi just grabbed Zackery and lifted him up to eye level. "So you think you’ve done nothing wrong? Look at you. You’re just a walking fire hazard. Its a wonder how you made it this far in life without someone else coming around and dealing with you. With either of us, you’d probably just end up sleeping under a bridge somewhere!”

The two dived into a heated argument between each other, Zackery’s hair slowly growing in temperature with smoke rising up from it, while Tachi was just shaking in anger.

As Kodo watched her two friends just verbally rip each other apart, a lump formed in her throat as her eyes watered up, stinging and making it hard to see until finally, “I’M SORRY!” She shouted, causing the two to pause in their own argument and looked at her.

“Wait, what? Why are you apologizing?”

“I’m sorry! I dont tell you guys anything, I just bottle everything up, I feel like crap every single day, I’m just so jealous of your amazing and strong quirks while I got stuck with something weak, I’ll never be able to match anything you two do, I never meant to make either of you feel stupid, being smart is all I’m good at and even then I still mess up, I’m not worthy of being your leader or friend...” Kodo continued to just spill her guts out as tears cascaded down her red cheeks. Her voice cracked and shook in several places, but she continued to just spill it all out.

Tachi immediately dropped Zackery and the two scrambled over to her, a little unsure of what to do. After a while, the two decided to just let Kodo let it all out, tissues and a water bottle ready for her. After several minutes, she finally calmed down enough, that or she just ran out of things to say.

The room was just filled with this heavy and thick silence, the two brothers awkwardly looking at each other before one of them spoke. “Look, Tachi I-”

“No, I’m sorry. What you said... I... I think I really needed to hear it.”

“But dude, I shouldnt have yelled or said those nasty things... I mean, I’m sorry too.”

“But you were right. You two are family to me, when I lost my sight in my eye, everyone else just turned their backs on me but you two, you were there for me, helped me, and look at where I am now because of you two. I really should open up more, it would only help all of us, right?”

“Just because I was right doesnt mean that I should have said it in the way I did. I just, I just get so mad. Like I can clearly see that something is bugging your two guys, but no matter what I do, I cant get either of you to talk to me. It just made me feel like that I didnt matter to either of you and that you guys must hate me I’m sorry.”

“Zackery, you do matter. No matter how angry I get, or frustrated you make me feel, I could never hate you, and I will never stop loving you. I promise that from now on, I’ll try to open up more. You guys are my family.” Kodo chimed in, her voice a little scratchy from crying.

“Am I promise to try opening up as well. Zack, I’m sorry for making you feel like you were below me. You’re not, but I failed in making that clear.”

“I’m not exactly guilt free either. I really need to stop doing all of this fighting... and that sucker punch was just really uncalled for, I’m sorry dude. How about your punch me back and we call it even?”

“Zackery, if I did that, you’d end up in the hospital, so no. I kind of deserved it, so we’re fine.” Tachi added before ruffling his hair.

“Can... can we just stay like this for a while, please?” Kodo asked, referring to the cuddle pile that they had formed.

“Yeah, its rather nice... Maybe afterward we can head out and get some food?” Tachi offered, shifting a little until he was a little more comfortable.

“Sounds good to me, and I’ll pay since I started all of this.” Zackery stated, not letting any of them counter it. And with that, the trio just relaxed for a while, until Zackery said one last thing.

“I’m still kicking that punk’s ass, hard.”

“ZACKERY NO!”

String Hoppers/ steamed rice threads of attention

I sit to write. To enter as gently as i can. Not for power or greed or fame. Steer me past them. I enter for truth and meaning, illumination and insight.

Om.

A right leaning cliff near the throat. That rides up to the right nose and slopes out the right nasal cavity.Extending in volume to the back of the throat to the right, slightly against the right ear and extending back to the curve of the skull.

No inclination to smile.

Just a sensation of wearing a mask. Multiple masks.

In the play - the character of the man, perceives himself believes himself to be the man, finds his justifications for it. But somewhere along the way discovers that he is the disguise for the little girl. It is her. Wearing the body and mind of the man.

And the little girl discovers that she is not really who she thought she was or the story of herself she bought into. But a part of the Third.

Like these characters picked up these roles and entered the game. The intentions in the outer world are markedly contrasting to the intentions or pursuits engaged in, in the game. Like a gaming scene.

When one goes in deep, as the observer, there is a distinct sense of looking out through this body / identity. Gazing and observing and experiencing. And if the attention is briefly turned inward, to look at the observer itself, it loops before falling into an abyss. And in that loop there the sense of a tall long torso-ed being gazing out though me, or a mustachioed stocky man, or nothing.

The heaviness today is without a certain emotional quality. In the realms of physical, weight, gravity, hanging.

A contraction near the chest left leaning, and a tug under the right shoulder blade.

I am jumbling up words. Lots of backspaces.

Breeze outside. Soft morning breeze which i love. Yes, i do truly love it.

And a squirrel hanging upside down nibbling on red gulmohar flowers.

I m as usual dressed and bandaged and oiled. And not to the floor. But in front of the computer. I wonder if ill make my way to the floor. I can sense the muscles easing off from missing more than a week of rigour.

I want to try and go over the connection in the morning meditation.

The connection between the sinus and the voices one hears as ones own or others. Is that the connection between the connection of the sinus and the sound of ones thoughts, maybe. A release in the sinus point held far out between the nose and the eye, in my case right one and there is some release in the right side of the throat. And somewhere inbetween the two, if a line were to the drawn, the point where it passes by the plane of the ear, it starts quieting down. This is the connection between the “Muu..” breathing exercise of Tai Chi that Marco taught and is explained in the book of Stevanovich, and quietening of the mind. Vibrating starting from the nasal passage and all the way down the throat to the core. Relaxing along the way and connecting to the core.

I wonder what the life patterns of those with sinus problems are. Mucus. Over thinking. Foggy thinking. Allergies. Sensitivities. From the sense of it. Must look up. Difficulties in self expression.

I think of G reading this. I wonder if she will be impressed. I wonder if she will make the same connections.

Visited R’s parents yesterday. R announced my haircut so simply and louly like only he can, that the intensity of embarrassment was over in a few minutes and life was back to simpler conversations after, for me at least.

I realise that what I most look forward to hearing from R’s parents is about their relationship, about how they navigated life. And also what they ordered in, from where and how it was ; uncle placing orders on swiggy feels like an adventure to me. Full of excitement.

R was mentioning to them about how we were navigating rough patches these days, in the lock down with nowhere to hide from each other’s demons and our own. Held prisoner by the other’s embrace. Ofcourse he didn't say all that - he summarized it his favorite words - painful / irritating.

Shift in throat.

Holding the other in the cage on one’s judgemental gaze.

Prisoners to each other, in a wrestle where neither can give up. A give up is a give in. And that must not be. The truth of individual experience and rights and wrongs wont allow it. Its a wrestle, where far more important than winning, is to not lose.

I feel life force models that, not so much about the winning - but the drive to keep living and not lose or let go. And in the tension, things happen. Creations? More like collaborations. Colors fusing into the other.

Uncle had advice to offer, as he always does. Patiently. When a question or a riddle enters the space and some pause or silence comes along. Which is usually after a while, past the exchange between R and Aunty, which feels like watching a trapeze artist going from one swing to the other. Then his quiet deep voice gently walks into a spot light lying in a far way corner, laying out the thread of the riddle he was holding on to patiently. And examining it based on some experience or anecdote stored somewhere in the recess of his memory.

Something of what he said yesterday - which at the time i heard it was colored in patriarchal language, held new meaning this morning. He said something to the tune of “ i was adviced early on in my marriage that the man keeps to himself all that is told to him about his wife”. Ofcourse aunty took offence, i knew that line of thinking - who is this bitching about me. What have i done. Why didnt he tell me. “Its not nice to talk about the wife to the husband. It is in such bad taste.” What wrong did i do, are you saying i was terrible - all these unsaids flowed by the said, as R casually dived into this phone and i mumbled - “Oh! I am sure he has keep a few compliments also from you.” And trying to change the situation with “uncle, maybe you shouldnt let out your tricks and techniques just yet”. Essh. Yuck. negative marking for wit and humor and ability to transform a scene for me. I’ll be demoted to KG.

Anyways. That and much passed.

Conversations on Objects with R has been one of the most illuminating one on our relationship. How my eyes glide over objects, perceive them to be dead zone, not registering much except a few which seem to be breathing on account of some association or their very make. But everything in nature is living and breathing to me. And how he is surrounded by the same objects and find them living and breathing, the associations run far and wide. He feels like a collector or memories.

In many ways the quirky tramp who sees value in most things people discard.

And me like the insurance guy on the park bench, who has taken for granted everything that his race has produced and doesnt care for any of it, finding some peace only on the park bench.

R was in a play -where he played the insurance guy. Some two decades ago.

Connections. Where are the connections.

Right here. Under my nose where i cant see them. And its true. Under the nose is one place which one can see unless there is a mirror.

And the other becomes the mirror.

After that long contemplation on Objects that we went on together just before bed, quite a rare exchange in that sense, we reached a park bench with a nice open sky and a canopy too, a great place for truce.

“My liberated self and your liberated self are keeping this together, keeping this going. “

Otherwise this would have fallen apart long ago.

Quite true. We managed to articulate together what we both knew right from the beginning but did not have the words or the spaces between the words available, to express.

Morning stretches also threw open a connection between the clitoris and the space between one's ears. A gentle expanse of the space between the ears invites something in the clit. A rub, a long rub, while holding on to that expansion is a series of unusual pleasurable sensations - not so much as a giant peak, as much as a mountain plateau with icy winds and many interesting contours.

Some bells tinkle, linking listening, having the space to listen and sexual arousal.

Writing feels like less in flow. ANd more of reporting from memory. Judgement ahoy.

Uncles wisdom and his thread reappears. I realised this morning that how ever he articulated it - and however i perceived it then - he was most unmistakable talking about holding space for the other. Standing in the peripheries and warding off unnecessary and unwelcome distractions, as the other dances her/his dance. Good or bad or great.

I make him sound like a saint. And their marriage perfect.

So powerful something in there, inspite of the rain and tech glitches that it triggered a deep contemplation and collaborative contemplation. On life. Though we spoke from our perception of objects. Revealing more to each other than we had managed to in months.

Its is easier to write when one is writing to save one’s sanity. When some semblance of sanity returns, some sense of comfortable corner, the tension in the rope slags. And one wobbles.

Breathe into core. Slackline. Focus.

Its a bit odd writing this when i know someone is going to read.

R rescud a string hopper maker from the attic yesterday and just showed it to me. I have never seen something like that. Its fashioned as a stool. I imagine the piston that goes into it would have to be atleast two feet long.

So much of the earlier tools, particularly kitchen tools was designed to engage the core. Work from the core and work the core.

Now its so much of engagement of extremities. If i were to trace this stringer hopper maker itself. My memory of it was until now, as a something that was gripped and clenched to push the rice paste out of the very tiny holes. The action centred around the grip, as in finger workouts. Or holding and rotating that pedal like thing around a cylinder held in the other hand. Both tolls more complex than this simple stoop with a built-in cup with holes, taking less space. But not quite directly engaging the core. This leaning over, this memory of engaging the core can fade away with a generation or two of using the smaller seemingly more convenient and space saving tools that are designed from thinking out of only of extremities. Making it harder to work and use as one’s connection with the core fades. I couldnt at one point fathom using the finger gripping string-hopper-maker mom used. Even with both my hands it was tough to make the beaks touch each other. So the harder it get, we look for easier. And in comes elecrticity! A magic wand and push button and conveneince. And any memory of core dissolves. And everything outsoursed.

Doctor. Medicine. Food. Security. Joy. Expression. All outsourced.

Good point to pause.

Its a lot like working on the hand gestures, the mudras. The more i am discovering the movement to the the finger tips starting from the spine, the more meaning and experience it holds for me. And far more satisfaction.

While earlier it was about how the mudra looked, it felt meaning less. Reflecting back to me only the crookedness and gracelessness of my fingers which was the last thing i wanted to see. Now the fingers are still curved and bet. I remember Ra finding them funny and me taking offence at his comments. BUt now its about the experience of the the line and connection and stories in the shapes, and the long uneven, sometimes uncharted and rocky road that leads back to the spinal core from the tip.

Now. Now is a good point to pause.

PSA Communicaton with Me and Toxicity and how I handle it.

[[Hey there guys, I know how many of you are really tired of seeing posts like these. I have really been trying to keep shit like drama away from my blogs and attempting to handle them priviately instead of publicly. But unfortunately, like Qrow from RWBY, misfortune tends to stick to me the a mcfuckin magnet.

The first part involving communication with me will be out and the part of how I handle toxcitiy and how I recognize toxicity etc will be under read more to save peoples dashes from a dramatically long post.

Alright, communication, it is something I highly value in rp and in friendships. Its what helps clear things up and make the whole experince better.

BUT, Like in rp , ooc talk and chats should both be met with effort and engagement. Meaning the convo shouldnt have to be held up by one personor make them feel left out.

There are times where people need quiet time to themselves or are too busy to speak with everyone. Guess what? Understandable because tumblr rp and the internet shouldnt be your whole life and let it drag you down. And your friends shouldbe able to understand this.

For my issue here, people complaining that I dont talk to them much after a while. Maybe because you only pay attention when I have something negative going on or im always 100% the one starting the convos and strugglig to keep it up. If you only give me one worded answers or give no effort in the conversation then I assume that you have lost interest.

A litle tip here: try making effort in the coversation, actually start some of the convos. Will be super fantastic!

Also understand that I'm not on here 24/7, I have two jobs and have to be the one to do most of the chores in my home. Sounds like a broken record everytime these things come up. But yeah, I miss things. Especially if someone posts a vent on their blog and it is deleted or gets buried by posts on my dash after a few hours.

But understand this, YOU CAN VENT TO ME ANY TIME. Like I wont get pissed, I vent to my friends all the time. You are safe to vent to me. Please.

On one last note, I have a lot of friends on here that want me to talk with them and all of them want me to tell them when I have something bad happen. I feel like I have so many damn moms! It isnt a bad thing at all but understand my attention is spread to many many people.

Ok, Ok.

So lets start off with this statement, treating me kindly will not blind be to you acting irrationally or horribly to others. Simple, yes? Yet so hard to understand when it comes to toxic people.

But those close to me will agree, I NOTICE EVERYTHING. I am extremely anti-bully. I do not stand or condone trying to bring someone down or ruin their lives just because of the dumbest shit.

For example, the most recent person I blocked would make public posts vauge-harrassing another for being a bit slow witht their replies and convos. Yeah, thats completely insane.

I was sent two anons a few days ago, assumingly from the person whom I blocked, judging on the language used and what the message composed of.

Claiming I am selfish and just love drama. That I toss away friendships like garbage.

Now I defintely know that those are completely farfetched statements. But I'm done with people that go as low as sending messages like this. Thinking I'm the villian for just blocking them. Very embarrassing for the sender. Cause it is always heavily baseless.

Why should one person on the internet, that you never even connected with and gave you a second chance, effect you that much? Why must you always be the victim? Why must everything be a battle?

When it comes to toxic people, they always have a daily panic attack about every single thing. No matter what it is. And if the attention is not on them, they have to make up an elaborate negative story or one up the other person that is recieving the attention.

Or the publicy post that noone cares about them, they are soooo lonely.

Yeah..uh.. hm.... seems like something a newbie 13 yr old tumblr idiot would do. And before you say it, do mot claim mental illness is the cause. Mental illness is NEVER EVER the damn cause of acting shitty towards others. That excuse is used far too much to even be considered valid.

Mental illness can be the cause of you being quiet for a while or for your mood drop. But not for acting out against innocent bystanders.

All in all , how I handle toxicity is probably the best way to do so. I recognize the toxicity, sometimes I attempt to address it to the other in a civil way. Or if its to the point where it is know thay their behaviour will not change. They will be unfollowed/blocked.

On a last note, I dont love drama, I hate drama to the core. I hate toxic people. I reserve the right to block. I reserve the right to block without notification.

If I vent to my friends, I stress that they not personally message or send anons to the other. But if they do so, thats on them. Not on me.

I know who I am.

Hey guys and gals, My wife was in a car accident on 10/8 driving our truck with liability only insurance (IE: not full coverage because the truck is only worth ~$3000 and it's paid for). She was turning right and had slowed down to turn (with her turn signal on) when a speeding truck slammed into the van behind her, ramming the van in to our truck. The police filed a report, in which the driver of the speeding truck (an 18 year old kid, that had just left his house less than 1/4 mile away) was determined to be at fault. It is worth note that this happened in front of two different auto body shops, and within sight of the house the at fault driver had just left. Their insurance company, state farm, finally contacted us on 11/8 after not returning our phone calls for nearly two weeks saying they had determined he was in fact at fault and would send an adjuster the following Monday. He came, inspected the truck, determined it was repairable, then said we would hear from their office later that day. When they called they told us the damage was more than 75% of the vehicles worth so it was considered total and they would send the required paperwork to my email address to begin payment. Within 3 hours, the claim agent we had talked to the previous Friday said an owner of one of the auto shops had came forward (all of a sudden, no mention of a witness before) and that he had a notarized statement saying the van struck our vehicle before the truck struck the van. The insurance company now will not pay us for the damages. We tried to call the witness and get a copy of his report because State Farm would not give us the copy. Then we called the other auto body shop and both the owner and one of his employees both seen the accident and say that the truck was at fault, and the owner overheard the driver say specifically that it was his fault. When we bring this to the agents attention, she claims this is not evidence because they know the at fault driver. We found out that the first witness also knows the driver, but can't prove it. Ours is a small town, you don't have neighbors that you don't know or speak to. It seems we are at an impasse, and I have been without a truck for nearly 6 weeks. What should I do in this instance? Get an attorney? Our insurance agency is adamant about not intervening since we did not have full coverage insurance. It may be worth noting that my wife has had back and neck pain since the accident and went to the hospital the day of the accident, the family doctor twice since, and has an appointment with a chiropractor next week (all of which our insurance has paid for.)""

I am entering my 4th year of driving (22 yr old) with absolutely no claims and even with comparing market my car insurance goes up every year. New comparison has come out at over 2500 quid! I drive a 2.2 diesel but even on a little 1.0 aygo or similar car it is over a grand. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm going to quit driving. The Problem Isnt Just Trump. Its Our Ignorant Electorate.

For many of us, mornings have taken on a certain nauseating sameness. We roll out from beneath the blankets and, before the scent of coffee has reached our nostrils, we are checking the news feeds for the latest semi-literate tweet coughed up by the ranting, traitorous squatter occupying the Oval Office.

The rest of the day is spent in a kind of horrified suspension, holding our breath, waiting for whatever outrage will inevitably belch forth from the White Houseonce a bastion of seriousness and decorum, now ground zero for the demise of western democracy. How many lies will Trump spew today? Which dictators will he suck up to? Will he smear a Gold Star family? Attack a woman who dares to call out his smarmy predations? Unveil a puerile, racist nickname for a Senator or member of his own cabinet?

As much as we loathe it, however sickening it might have become, every day seems all about him, a former game show host and real estate failure, a hawker of rot-gut vodka and bullshit degrees from a fraudulent University who once styled himself as the Donald. The cable news shows lead with his most recent flatulence, the op-ed pages brim with intimations of doom, late night comedians are having a field day.

He is the president and, thus, bears watching. But we would be mistaken to think that he is truly the center of our universe, a man with a plan, commanding the heights, directing the action.

Virulent as he may be, Donald J. Trump is a symptom not the disease. Without us, he would amount to nothing more than what he had always been before the bizzaro presidential election of 2016: a foppish narcissist desperate for any measure of affirmation; a joke; a nothing. He did not create his voters. They have been there all along, seething with sometimes justifiable anger and suffering their various insecurities. They created and enabled Trump. And make no mistake, in all their vulnerable humanity, they are us: Gullible, compliant, distracted, marinating in irony.

At root, we the people are the problem.

We are understandably reluctant to impugn the intelligence and integrity of our fellow citizens. It is arrogant, uncivil, bad form. Who are we, any of us, to hold ourselves superior? When Hillary Clinton referred to some Trump supporters as deplorables, she was roundly castigated on all sides. How dare she? Yet it is an uncomfortable reality that anywhere from a fifth to a third of our electorate can be fairly (if gently) described as low-information voters. If the results of numerous polls and questionnaires are to be trusted, they know very little about the world they inhabit and what they do know is often woefully incorrect.

Surveys conducted every two years by the National Science Foundation consistently demonstrate that slightly more than half of Americans reject the settled science concerning human evolution. They are not unaware that virtually all credible scientists accept the overwhelming evidence that we evolved from earlier species. They simply choose not to accept that consensus because it doesnt comport with their deeply held beliefs. Many also embrace the absurd notion that the earth is only six thousand years old. Astonishingly, in the early 21st century, around a quarter of our citizenry seems unaware that said earth revolves around the sun.

It is a mistake to regard concern about such ignorance as effete snobbery or elitist condescension. While misapprehensions about basic astronomy, earth science and biology may have little impact on these folks daily lives, does anyone actually believe that similarly uninformed views arent likely to affect their grasp of policies regarding, say, climate change? Income inequality? Gun violence? Immigration?

Profound knowledge gaps like the aforementioned reveal an inability to think critically and leave a person vulnerable to all manner of chicanery. We are all ignorant about many things. Dont get me started on my dismal grasp of mathematics! But the hallmark of a sound education is not glorying in what you think you know, but, instead, appreciating the vastness of what you dont know.

If ignorance is the key that opens the door for charlatans like Trump, improved education, whether in school or in the public square, would seem to provide an obvious solution. But here we confront the perverse Dunning-Kruger Effect identified by psychologistsessentially, the less we know, the more certain we become of our superior knowledge. We have also discovered that exposure to facts and evidence does not always have the expected impact. Many people, when confronted by irrefutable proof that some core belief is incorrect, dont change their minds but dig in their heels. What feels right to them must be right and no amount logic and reasoning will dissuade them. Emotion trumps evidence.

Not too long ago, I fell into conversation with a woman aboard an airplane. Our chat somehow turned to health care. She offered the opinion that people who couldnt afford health insurance didnt deserve medical services. Why should she pay for someones care when they were obviously too lazy to earn their own money?

Because Im my own kind of fool, I rose to the bait. Did that mean they should be allowed to die in the street? I wondered. Well, no, she said. That would be inhumane. They could always go to an emergency room. So she was willing to pay for their care, I observed, but only in the least efficient, most expensive manner. This gave her momentary pause, but she quickly regrouped, simply repeating her prior assertion: Why should she pay? I didnt ask who she planned to vote for in the then-upcoming presidential election, but given that she had also voiced the opinion that women were, by virtue of their gender, unqualified to be news anchors, Im guessing it wasnt Hillary Clinton or Jill Stein.

She is hardly the worst example of an unthinking voter. Bill Maher once invited onto his show former GM Executive Bob Lutz. One supposes that such a fellow has benefited from an adequate education and that hes open to reason. Yet, when the subject of climate change arose, Lutz denied it was happening. A bunch of nonsense as far as he was concerned.

As it happened, Maher had also invited Neil deGrasse Tyson, an astrophysicist, educator and Director of the Hayden Planetarium. Tyson patiently explained why Lutz was misinformed. The planet was warming. Humans were largely to blame. This is how we know.

You might expect an educated person to respond by at least engaging on the topic. Tyson was, after all, vastly more knowledgeable on the subject at hand. Had their roles been reversed, with the topic being cars, I have no doubt he would have deferred to the automaker, asking questions, trying to improve the state of his own knowledge. Not Lutz. You could see him shutting down before Tyson had even warmed to the topic (no pun intended). As Upton Sinclair famously put it, Its hard to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on him not understanding it.

Anyone who has watched the focus groups of Trump voters has seen this sorry dynamic played out again and again. Everything, no matter how tawdry or malicious, is excused or minimized. You get the feeling these folks would accept the sexual molestation of teenage girls as a trade-off for Neil Gorsuch. In fact, many did in supporting Roy Moore.

Welcome to the Post-Truth Era.

Much has been written about the impact social media and the internet in general have had on how people receive and absorb information. By now, we are all familiar with bots, trolls, phony scandals and the tendency of folks to hunker down in their own info-silos. The old adage that a lie is halfway round the world before the truth gets its socks on has never been more salient.

Consider the recent attacks on one of the young Parkland shooting survivors. A teenager who had just witnessed classmates being gunned down at his own school quickly discovered that speaking up for common-sense gun regulation resulted in vicious trolling and the viral lie that he was a paid crisis actor. This was similar to what befell the grieving families of the small children murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012. Imagine waking one morning in a state of searing grief over the violent death of your baby to discover that some odious prankster like Alex Jones is telling his gullible audience that the whole tragic incident was staged, that your child was actually a paid performer doused in artificial gore and posed in a gruesome tableaux of death.

That Jones and his ilk have not been thoroughly shamed and driven from the public sphere says a lot about our growing tolerance for vile nonsense.

Trump did not invent Fake News. The Big Lie has been the stock in trade of con men and tyrants since time immemorial. But he understands its value. Alternative facts as his lickspittle factotum, Kellyanne Conway infamously put it, has long been his metier. Hes a bullshitter, a phony and now hes our president.

This shouldnt have happened. But we let it happen, though Trump did have plenty of help

Unsurprisingly, the Fox propaganda machine and any number of right-wing radio ranters enthusiastically clambered aboard the Trump Train. They were abetted by many in the mainstream media who, mindful that Trump lured eyeballs to advertisers and too timid to call him out as the carnival barker he so obviously was, went along for the ride. A number of Republicans in Congress dismissed him at first. But when it became clear he had a shot at winning and that his devotees comprised at least half of their party, they scurried to adopt him as their useful idiot.

Its true that we are not all equally culpable. Roughly three million more people voted for Trumps chief opponent. But the right-minded among us didnt do enough to forestall the plainly looming disaster. The proof of that is the Trump presidency itself.

So, if we in our various incarnations are the problem, then what is the solution? Is there any way out? Wed better hope so. Whats certain is that its on us. We made a wreck of our government and its up to us to fix it.

There are positive signs:

A once compliant media has begun to take the gloves off. Genuine conservatives, outraged that their movement has been hijacked by philistines, are sounding the alarm. People are rising up and calling BS. For every Sean Hannity there is a Rachel Maddow, Jake Tapper or even Shepard Smith (at Fox News, no less!). For every Paul Ryan, there is a David Frum or Max Boot. Frothing crowds at CPAC are countered by the #MeToo movement and impressively eloquent teenagers fed up with politicians of any stripe who cower before the gun industry. On a good day, a John McCain or Jeff Flake will stand up to the cringing accommodationists in their own party. And, of course, Donald Trump himself, along with his corrupt lackeys, face a formidable foe in the person of Robert Mueller.

NSA Director Admiral Mike Rogers recent testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee should mark a turning point, though he merely confirmed what has been apparent for some time: that even as our nation is under attack from a Russia determined to subvert our democracy, the president has not directed any relevant agencies to defend the country. This is a violation of the oath Trump swore on inauguration day and smacks of treason. We have entered uncharted waters.

Whats clear is that we need to use all non-violent resources at our disposal to rid ourselves and our country of the dangerous infection spreading from the White House into our body politic. These are not normal times and our usual reflexes will no longer suffice.

Trump is a problem of our own creation. We must become the solution.
