At the end of our last watch of lotr my family had a short conversation about how no one in the main cast dies, to which someone commented about how that probably annoyed me (because i love good tragic suffering in my fiction and get so annoyed when writers/directors are afraid to kill off characters) but i kept thinking about that one post that runs through all the times and places one of the main fellowship (mainly hobbits) could have died and its ends with 'but tolkein decided that this once everyone would make it, there had been too much lost' because lotr is based on tolkeins experience with war... and with everything going on in the world right now, i understand why lotr is such a comfort to me.
Because yes i enjoy tragedy in my fiction. Yes i enjoy a good well done killing of a beloved characters. Yes more creators shouldnt be afraid of kill beloved characters. But for once, with so much darkness all around us, for everyone to make it, for everyone to get their happy ending is important.
#lotr#tolkien#lotr comfort#comfort films#rip borimir#borimir is a good example of the well done tragedy because his desth affects the rest of the rest of the narritve#it splits the fellowship#directs the arc of merri and pippin#and it comes back and effects the narrative when we meet and interact eith gondor#with theodin kind and farimir#ok anyway i feel that gets my point across i want to resd lotr for the first time so i might make posts abt my reading and thoughts :D
