To 10 Games

Thanks so much for the tag @thevikingwoman! In no particular order and no particular criteria. Just games that have meant a lot to me for one reason or the other over the years.

tagging @wintersongstress @muses-circle @elveny @alyssalenko and anyone else. I have no clue who is here anymore, lol.

1. Resident Evil 4

Though I love the remake and plan on replaying it soon, the original has to be on this list for not only being nostalgic, but just for being a big staple of my time in high school. I played this game way after it released, but it was such a fun escape when I needed it. Ada and Leon were the first couple I really shipped and their dynamics still appear in my writing today, even subtly. honestly I think it's also fair to say Ada also taught me how to flirt. lol.

2. Kingdom Hearts.

This was the first game I played where the story impacted me enough for me to cry at the end. Yes it’s not exactly great and it’s very cheesy and weird, but I feel the need to include it because this was the game that made me realize how impactful the medium of games could be in terms of storytelling.

3. Dragon Age

I’m sure you knew this would be on here! I’ve spoken so much about it, but let it suffice to say it got me back into writing and now I’m a much better writer because of the things I’ve learned and developed along the way! Will give the edge to Inquisition over Origins on this one, but I feel like a lot of people don't know how much I replayed origins, and in fact played it all the way back when it first came out.

4. Tomb Raider Anniversary

Been thinking about these games a lot recently. I do love the remakes but I have to say I’m partial to this Lara, of Legend and Anniversary variety. She likes adventures and history and she explores and goes to cool locations, and at a time in my life where I was just starting to realize how much travel means to me, I got to vicariously travel. I also think these games are a good blend of puzzle, exploration, and action.

5. Red Dead Redemption 2

This was the game that solidified my feelings that story telling in games not only rivals that of other mediums, but sometimes can even overtake it. Playing RDR2 feels like reading a long epic novel where the characters become your best friends by the end.

6. Last of Us

It would feel weird not to have this game on here because I truly think it is one of the best games that has ever been made. I just like to pretend the sequel doesn’t exist. Cough.

7. Assassins Creed 2

I love so many of these games—odyssey is definitely up there as well but I have to give this one to 2. I played it when I was 16 after coming home from Europe for the first time and enjoyed the hell out of running around Florence after I had been there. I did also have fun playing odyssey again after being in Greece. Couldn’t find the place I jumped from in Paros I was so sad.

8. Okami

This game is very much pure nostalgia. beautiful cell shaded animation and compelling use of Japanese mythology.

9. Mass Effect 2

I don't quite love ME as much as Dragon age due to my own preference for fantasy/medieval, but I love 2 for where it took the story/characters. Overall, ME is one of the few, if only, pieces of SciFi media I like.

10. Witcher 3

If you put a gun to my head and told me to name what I thought the best video game ever released was, I'd say Witcher 3. I have fond memories of playing this game while eating pizza in college. I also just love the animations for this game. In a time of "realism is the way" in video games, to me it's the more animated style that is much more timeless. (this is another reason I like Baldur's Gate right now)

I have a entire series of Whumptober fics that have some not so happy endings. Though I think Balancing the Scales might take that award.

In all seriousness, there's a couple I feel that end on a higher note. Forsaken, Silver and Gold both come to mind. I have a few one shots floating around that lighter in humor as well.

I don't think I have on Ao3, no.

That's a hard no, seeing as I'm ace. Sorry folks.

I haven't no. I'm not a huge fan of them.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not on Ao3 no, but back on FF I have. Woke up one morning to a flood of emails from concerned readers flagging a fic that matched one of mine word for word in some areas. Issue was resolved quite quickly though. Bless my readers who kept an eye out for that.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I had some older Robin Hood fic that were translated into Finnish actually! That was a pretty cool experience. So long ago now I don't remember where it was posted (FF I think, and one other site), but it was big thing at that time, esp since I was still in high school.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Several times yes! It can be quite a bit of fun, esp when working to match styles of the other writer(s).

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Once again – Ace, so I'm not too invested in such a thing. That being said, for RDR2, other than canon ships, I do see the appeal of Sadie/Arthur as well as Charles/Arthur, though I write (nor read) either really.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

We're not going to talk about my four unfinished fics, because I'm going to finish them eventually.

When I have time.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I've been told I tend to capture the likeness of certain characters, including dialogue and inner thoughts. I feel like I keep good pacing over longer stories, and that I have the ability to paint vivid scenes to help readers immerse themselves in the story.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I have the inability to write a short fic. Anytime I tell myself 'Oh yeah, that'll only be x words/chapters, it nearly triples in length. Looking at you, Silver and Gold, (aka minibang fic)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I've done this before with some Spanish when characters were in appropriate situations, where they weren't supposed to know/understand what was being said. I think I've done it once with German, but I could be wrong. I feel it add flavor when done a sparse amount, and not have it be too overbearing for the reader to muddle through.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Lord of the Rings was the first fandom I wrote and actually posted for, though Jedi Apprentice from Star Wars was what got the fanfic train rolling. I rewrote an ending to something that really annoyed me and I felt like I could write it better so I did. That was in the pre-internet era though, so it never made it online. (FF didn't even exist yet!)

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

I'm fairly partial to Learning Hurts. It has a mix of what I enjoy (Hurt, comfort, reassurance, growth) and I love the play of the title. Several characters end up learning something over the course of the story, and as implied, those lessons all come with a bit of hurting.

Hello and welcome to the fandom! :) There are so many great, talented creators to follow on here that I honestly feel a bit bad about not including more people. I would definitely recommend following these folks and then seeing who they are following/posting from/etc because there's some amazing writers, artists and creators in the RDR2 fandom and I don't doubt that I've missed people off.

(Also, anyone who sees the post, feel free to promote yourself or other people in the fandom. Sorry again if I have missed you)!

@verai-marcel - They have some wonderful fics. I highly recommend their RDR2 modern AU fics and their Neighbourly Affection series is wonderful.

@mistermxrgan - A RP blog run by @f--hawk. They absolutely nail Arthur's characterisation and they're an all round sweet, amazing person.

@kitty-the-outlaw - Fantastic fics and if Micah is more your cup of tea this is definitely the person to go to! They are also really lovely and kind and were super welcoming when I turned up! :D

@its-deputy-caleb - They've got some gorgeous headcanons and wonderful fanfictions. If you're looking for Morbell then their blog is definitely one to check out.

@norafike - Ngl I have no clue who Lemuel Fike is. I still read all their fics because they're just that good. Making me enjoy a ship so much, even when I don't know who one of the characters is, is a remarkable skill!

@daily-escuella - This person annoys me, because not only are they an immensely talented artist, but they also write gorgeous stuff too! Like that's not fair, be skilled at one thing like the rest of us! But in all seriousness they have some brilliant fics and they're super lovely.

@htyhtiasmmsibijt - Great writer and has done some beautiful one shots about Arthur's younger days. Highly recommend. Also they wrote me an amazing smutty fic and I was blushing like a tomato, it's so good!

@12timetraveler - They're a big fan of Hosea, so if you like soft, Papa Hosea I would definitely recommend. Loved their Bound For You fic about Hosea and Bessie Matthews, it was so sweet. Be prepared to cry though!

@ttuesday - I respect this person so much and I am so envious of their headcanons. They're so fucking good and they put in so much effort. Like if mine can ever be as good as theirs, I will cry!

@outlaw-scribble - They have some incredible fics inspired by prompts. I don't think there's ever been anything I didn't enjoy reading by them.

@coldmorte - For all your Dutch Van Der Linde and VanderMorgan needs! I wasn't the biggest Dutch fan when I got here, but they definitely helped change my mind!

@reddeaddesolation - Very apt name, they keep coming up with headcanons and fics that make me cry! Their John Marston one where he has night terrors just destroyed me.

And for TGP, because it's a classic, let's go with someone we haven't really discussed as much: our very own theater kid and strong, independent acid snake, Vicky <3

ship with: A happy ending? Free healthcare? TB vaccine?! No but seriously the closest I come to shipping him with anyone would be Charles, who as you don't know the story is a half-native American, half-black member of the gang who is an absolute badass but even more stoic and quiet than Arthur. He's the only character Arthur hugs twice in the game and in almost any mission he's sent on he's like "I'LL TAKE CHARLES!" And Charles journeying all that way to find his body and bury him in the location he requested just breaks my heart.

His scenes with nature photographer Albert Mason are also fucking adorable and shippable.

brotp: This is the harder question. I love the drunken night out he has with Lenny, I love how he calls Sean his annoying little brother, and him and Uncle have my favorite convo in the game ("You're my favorite parasite!"). But the centre of the story revolves around him and John Marston so seeing them repair their brotherly bond which is so broken at the start only to lose each other as soon as they admit how they feel to each other is what brings the tears.

But then there's Arthur x Sadie, and while Arthur and John are like actual brothers, Arthur and Sadie are more like platonic soulmates. They're so much like Hellstrop where I was very close to shipping them at one point and could see it working in an au, but she's such a protective big sister in the end (despite being eleven years younger), and she's the one who leads the revenge mission in the end after Arthur's killer, with Charles and John.

general opinions: I hate Westerns. I hate cowboys. But my bestie was adamant I try this game and was certain I would fall in love with Arthur and I did (I fell in love with every character...except Micah). I can't help but compare him to the boys in Ted Lasso, especially Roy, where they have this appearance of being a tough, aggressive hardman but inside them is a heart of gold and rainbows! And just like TL, this game feels like such a deconstruction of typical 'masculine' tropes and stereotypes, where you have all these gruff cowboys opening up about their feelings, their love for each other, sitting around a campfire at 3am and singing songs or giving each other therapy.

And the same way that the Good Place made me rethink ethics and philosophy, RDR2 and Arthur especially gave me an existential crisis. I actually had a really vivid dream where I thought I had TB and was dealing with being afraid of death, the same way I'd watched Arthur go through, and that really shook me up, to the point where when I woke up I had to remember "Oh yeah, I'm vaccinated!" I think as it's a video game and a LOT longer than a movie or even series (my first playthrough was over fifty hours) it was so much more immersive and couldn't be told in any other medium. Arthur's relationship with his narcissistic, gaslighting father figure also hits very close to home with me. I just wanna wrap him up in blankets and pet his hair, the poor kitty.

general opinions: S4 would have been made a fork load better if we had had more Vicky. IDK doing what but just more, it couldn't have made it worse!

3: What’s your favorite line of narration?

There was something about how the big fluffy flakes floated and swirled through the air before silently resting on the ground that was simply magic.

I really do love snow so much and it was great to bring that into my prose. 

6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?

Honestly, this is the first and hopefully only fic where I changed out a primary character for another. I had originally written this in mind as the end/epilogue for an Arthur/OC fic I had never posted. But with the Fluffy Feb challenge prompt and this being my first RDR2 fic, I decided to change it to Sadie. I like Sadie a lot as a character. And I knew it was a popular ship even if I didn't really ship it myself. So yeah, I don't love that I made a decision based on fandom popularity. But seeing as I don't think I'll ever post that other WIP I'm pretty okay with it now. At least readers have a reference with Sadie vs an OC that only lives in my head and one word doc. But I think if I had written it with Sadie in mind to begin with I would have put some more of her background into it.

the diofield chronicle ch 7

how did empire forces get so far into diofield. their ships only ever landed on the south and east costs but somehow there's encampments all over diofield? weird.

yeah fredret is like cracking under the weight of his own expectations, he's much harsher, desperate? fevered? now. and andrias is also acting odd, frustrated? resigned? an odd meeting over all defeating the remnants.

yeah they both seem more hostile towards each other and i dont know why. really what has gotten into them, why has fredret abandoned strategy

yeah rigyare strand was bait. persona bait too.

the noble who raised andrias was important! still dont know who. when andrias says fred is the same person it sounds like he's repeating a line.

so they did plan to kill them all anyways treaty or no treaty. good to know that is a story about grey vs grey there's at least one black. where's andrias in this final battle.

wow its taken me to long to realize that zevatian is coverart dude. yeah I got spoiled on that ending bit. nice bit of foreshadowing earlier about andrias valuing only power. did he choose the empire because they were stronger?

A one of my bigger complaints is that the game lacked a few lines about fred's change after assuming the throne. I would have liked that to have been fleshed out a bit more, like is it the pressure and power of the position getting to him?

andrias changes are easier to follow the logic of as his big plans entered their endgame and crunch time is on. Though I do wonder how necessary it all was. There must have been plenty of ways to draw out zevatian and if he didn't think fred worthy there was no reason to set him up as king (i think this was mainly to put himself in a better position). im assuming the empire planted him originally for levantia's assassination, i wonder if he kept receiving orders after that. Would they really just let go a highly trained agent to go live in the countryside instead of repositioning him back into court? oh an option could be andrias was genuinely on alletain's side up until fredret became king at which point he became disillusioned with him and alletain in general.

Over all this game is decent but not great (cant speak about gameplay since i only played the tutorial map and it didn't jive with me). I found the plot to be interesting but i like political dramas. rather than have some 16 playable characters I think with its limited development resources they should have focused on fewer characters that were more fleshed out. gameplay wise it seemed a little redundant too since you can only deploy 4(8) at a time, a large chunk just wont be used. i find it interesting that in this game everyone gets along less the further into the game you get. not that many games go this path (rdr2 off the top of my head).

i don't know what happens to iscarion so im gonna choose to live in the reality where he's alright and off being robin hood or something.

oh also i wish they had used the 3 modeling artists that made tales of arise, that style of character model would have better fit the character illustrations.

its weird how few people have played this game its not a masterpiece but its not a bad game (well not that i played it either really jsut watched ~10 different playthroughs to get all the dialogue)

hello.

here's a full rundown of au's i enjoy doing and if i can find the relevant roles for my ocs to fit in. some are more based on media than others, however im open to a lot of other aus as long as i know what I'm doing or have a idea haha.

WESTERN AU ; basic wild west au. settings depend on the oc used. i see rafael as a bounty hunter living in texas, ophelia as the pastors daughter and j.c as an outlaw. these are all malleable, and most of my knowledge comes from rdr2.

REGENCY AU; bridgerton. basically just bridgerton au. happy to change the setting and time. this is for j.c and ophelia. i could fit in rafael as well but i don't see the setting so clearly for him. ophelia is still unmarried due to a scandal a few seasons ago. j.c is the restrained son of a duke who hides many secrets. he also doubles as a lowborn ready to be someone's dirty little secret.

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE / TWD AU; the world ended and the dead came to life. join all 3 of my ocs in this world. scenarios include simply trying to survive and find some happiness, trying to escape the city to a safe haven, or perhaps escaping people who've gone nutty. happy to begin this as the virus spreads and chaos ensues, or a few years into it. kind of based on a variety of zombie media.

BIRD PEOPLE AU; they're just all birds. or types of bird people. maximum ride BAYBEEE. they could be escaped experiments or this is literally just a world populated by bird people. for all 3.

SPECIES SWAP AU; just a general exploration of my characters as different species. this includes siren j.c, fae j.c and wolf j.c, fae ophelia and vampire ophelia, and fae rafael and vampire rafael. their backstories will be edited to reflect these changes.

CYBERPUNK AU; based on the videogame & tabletop game cyberpunk 2077. this is more of a specific au where in the future the world is owned by huge megacorporations. its basically the world we live in now but x10 exacerbated. everything outside major cities is dust. gang violence is the only way to really make it in the city if you're not rich. all 3 of my ocs fit into this au ; rafael is a leader of a sect of the valentino's and carries a gold arm, ophelia is a heiress who's 60% chrome and has her own line of beauty cybernetics and j.c would be a braindance tuner who sells XBD on the down low.

COFFEE SHOP AU; its the classic. more of a ship type setting for fluff. a chance to explore ✨️ships✨️

MOB AU; they're gangsters. very peaky blinders, goodfellas, the godfather, gangs of london. characters can be part of the same gang or different gangs. can also be set in a different time period. all 3 are included in this au.

GODS AU; in which the gods of various religions and cultures walk among us. they might know eachother, they could all be friends or exes. maybe they've given up godhood. all 3 are included in this au. maybe there's like a summit of them all. like a big old meeting of the old world gods and they attend.

ANGEL/DEMONS AU; good omens au but more flexible. much like the gods au they walk among the living. some enjoy humanity, some want to see it burn. a good old forbidden love au. can fit lots of dynamics in here. for all 3.

SOULMATE AU; one of those dumb old school fanfiction aus where you get a tattoo at 12 that matches to your soul mate somewhere around the world. or like you see colour when you touch or you get their signature on your wrist. another more shippy one. all 3 are included.

im up for a lot of things so. you know I can hash stuff out and shoot the shit in dms. i know a lot of pop culture, happy to slot them into pre existing molds.
