From the second chapter of you still don't realise it, do you?

The refrigerator is emitting a low hum.  Francis opens it out of curiosity.  Inside–  The refrigerator is organised like a temple.  There are mason jars holding berries.  I have too much self-respect to buy my groceries from a supermarket, James had said, wrinkling his nose—even the cardboard boxes blueberries and blackberries come in from his posh little grocer must not be good enough for him.  He meal preps—there are rectangular glass containers (not Tupperware, never plastic) stacked on top of one another with care, holding no fewer than three separate dishes that Francis can discern.  Milk, butter, yoghurt—all organic.  The bottle of Perinaise makes Francis smile.  How embarrassing for James that he likes something as basic as Nando’s.  Francis’s eye catches on the eggs next.  He closes the refrigerator door.

James is full of shit, and so is the nurse he recruited to his shitty cause.  Nearly intubated.  Francis does not buy it for a second.  Neither will he waste time he does not have examining the contents of James’s kitchen.

delicious grilled cheese recipe: no picture cause i suck at food photography

ingredients you will need:

whatever bread you want to use, sliced

shredded and optionally, sliced cheese (i used cheddar)

mayonnaise (i used nandos spicy perinaise)

onion or onion powder (preferably the real deal)

salt and pepper

smoked paprika (or regular but smoked is better)

garlic or garlic powder (i used garlic powder)

butter or margarine

and optionally: hot sauce

you could also add like kimchi/olives/pimentos whatever, i just used what i had in the fridge/pantry

steps:

chop/dice your onions very finely

get a bowl and mix the shredded cheese with some mayo (not too much) and the onions, paprika, garlic powder, and the salt n pepper. measure this shit with your heart

take your slices of bread and spread butter/margarine on all sides. then add a slice of cheese on each and spread your shredded cheese mixture on one of them. pack that shit on.

then smash the slices together, cheese side to cheese side, and grill those suckers up its pretty self explanatory

add hot sauce whenever you feel like it i just poured it on top of the post-grilled sandwich

forgot my lunch today and got home so absolutely fucking starving that i couldn't even bring myself to make anything. dragged my ass off the couch to cut up some of those small potatoes you don't have to peel. out them in a loaf pan with some oil salt and garlic. added parmesan cheese and cracked a few eggs in near the end. little bit of perinaise sauce on top. so happy rn

How are your friends doing these days? They all seem so funny and sweet!

Oh, they’re very well. Freddie has been loudly pretending to die of consumption whenever anyone asks him to do something, which is honestly quite fair. Bunny and Melissa won’t stop making the world’s most cursed desserts “as a little treat” and feeding them to innocent bystanders (latest crime: cherry trifle with Nando’s perinaise). Lestat says that he’s become nocturnal, but I did see him outside at noon the other day, looking like he’d just emerged from a sarcophagus. Amadeus has exams, so he’s gone back to his old habit of texting me extremely dark poetry at 3am and begging to sleep on Tuck’s floor (a lesser man would have refused). Last night I woke up to see Do not go gentle into that good night flashing up on my screen, and briefly considered whether it was finally time to leave the country. Mouse and The Mink are perpetually locked in the kitchen, making bread and judging us all. Boris and Teddy are currently in hospital with alcohol poisoning, so not much new there.

We’re all a little tired at the moment. Long term tired, I think—it’s already 7th week. The sort of tired that you just can’t nap away, you know? But we’re keeping each other afloat. There’s always someone laughing too loudly, or insisting on making more tea, or playing terrible music from the other room. There’s a kind of mercy on that, though sometimes I have to force myself to look for it.

To keep things more light-hearted: Do you like Nando's? If so, what is your usual order?

I love Nando’s.

I either have the spiced chickpea burger or half a chicken, always with two sides. If I’m being healthy I will get spicy rice and tenderstem broccoli or if im having a treat/cheat meal then I’ll have peri peri chips and the garlic bread. Oh and always two pots of garlic perinaise.
