I have seen a bunch of plagiarism scandals where professional writers and/or experts in the associated field have defended the plagiarist. At length. Doubling, tripling, quadrupling down and laughing at the people who called out their lack of ethics.
Now, ~suddenly~, even ~miraculously~, they have a problem with it. Sure. That makes sense.
#a deeply held ethical problem#suuuure#I mean this is pretty blatantly to avoid people looking into their work and their prior beliefs#which have suddenly gotten v v inconvenient!#(their prior beliefs were [and this is easy to prove] only unlikeable nerds care about plagiarism!!)#(cool people [like them] think all writing ideas are open source!!! no matter what)#(& ethics were never meant to apply to them!!!)#off topic#not fiber arts#this is so incredibly cynical#I’m upset bc I’m pretty sure it’ll work#ethics classes are required in a lot of programs#so it’s not as if they can claim they didn’t know anything about it#they just didn’t care#and think people (mainly I’m assuming them and their friends) should get away with it#and we should talk about how that led to the environment where these scandals are pretty continuously happening#with few marks on people’s reputations even if they’re forced to switch career paths#& them complaining what a shame it is#any consequences are left at all#anyway thanks to hbomberguy for forcing these people to care for a single moment in time#nothing else did it
