#with a hefty side serving of religious appreciation for ancestors

Fun fact: I have an ancestor who abandoned his birthright to move to the US...so he could be closer to rocks and become a gentleman miner in his spare time. Not a subsistence miner, sixteen-tons style, mind you, so I know this was not a decision born out of economic desperation, but a hobbyist miner who used his legitimate business to fund his rock fascination, and if collectively delighting over examining the ancestral rock collection at the family reunion is not relatable, then I suspect there may not be enough autism in your family.
#the autism and the initial rock appreciation are actually probably zero related#which is to say most of the autism comes from a great uncle entirely unrelated to the rock immigrant#but the continued familial preservation of the rock collection and our collective delight over it?#that is definitely a combo of autism#with a hefty side serving of religious appreciation for ancestors#and the fact that rocks are just cool#if you're immigrating to utah and you're not interested in either religion or rocks#why are you even going?#(the radiation fascination came later)#the other brainweird stuff is perhaps a mystery#some possibility the adhd was there#but to be honest there's significant adhd in pretty much all of my extended family and it's a common enough brain thing#that there's probably no one source#birds of a feather flock together and all that#(and as an aside: i cannot say that phrase without imagining the bullying scene in ella enchanted#because i spent ages trying to figure out how areida's ayorthian accent sounded#and most of what i had to go off of was that exaggerated mocking pronunciation)
