Meanwhile, in Pandora's gardens, the Duchess Rainsworth asks Duke Barma what he's scheming. When he's quiet, she realizes, he's not scheming. Something is troubling him.

His father had died when he was too young to remember. His mother was all he had, until she died when he was around 12. Her death had been surrounded by rumors, some saying she had been caught up in a drunken brawl, others that she had been devoured by a terrible monster.

Either way, when investigators took Leo away, no one from his village tried to stop them.

He understood that.

He thought he would be arrested, but instead he was taken to the House of Fianna. He wasn't always good with children, though. When one of them asked why his bangs were so long and tried to touch his hair, he had shoved her rather harshly and run off to hide

And that was how he discovered the small library full of books outside the children's level.

Elliot was noble-minded and unyielding. That's probably why someone like Leo, so completely different from him, accepted the offer to stay by his side.

But maybe, that wasn't a good idea after all.

Leo recounts the incident in the crater. The children screaming. Humpty Dumpty's attack had sent Elliot flying. And then Leo had begged him to say its name.

He remembered all of it when he awoke after. Those things all really happened. And yet...

After that, things had seemed to go back to normal. The kids played and laughed like they hadn't lost three of their siblings. Leo was told those kids who died had never existed. How could he argue? He let himself believe, and things quickly went back to normal.

But something felt out of place now.

Leo reveals that he had overheard the conversation between Elliot and Oz during the ceremony. When Elliot had said that he was worried something was wrong with Leo. He seemed to be brooding over something, sometimes he didn't even seem to understand what Elliot was talking about....

So the weird one, the one who was losing it, had to be him, Leo had figured.

Finally, we learn what the Will of the Abyss had asked of Break when his Illegal Contract had dragged him to her chamber at the bottom of Abyss.

She had asked him to find a way to destroy her, and to save Alice.

Once, the Abyss had been bathed in golden light.

Then, suddenly, the Will of the Abyss appeared and warped it into what it is now. This, in turn, lead to the Tragedy of Sablier. Leo inherited the soul of Glen Baskerville, and Elliot became an Illegal Contractor and died, all because of her.

Leo tells Oz that the Baskervilles are on the side of justice and asks him to join them. But Oz says, he doesn't really like people who go around brandishing the banner of justice. When it comes to humans, there is no black or white, justice or evil.

He asks if Leo is going to recreate the Tragedy.

Probably, Leo says, with some hesitation. If that turns out to be the only way to destroy the Will of the Abyss.

today in "krad continues to be very normal about gunter fire emblem" i hyper-analyze 3H's teatime preferences to divine up gunter's favorite teas and a few other fun facts ~ :D

so, context:

in Three Houses (FE16), there's a teatime minigame where your avatar drinks tea with selected characters, and try to guess their favorites / favorite conversational topics / etc for bonding points. FE's pretty big on character archetypes across the games (nabarls, jeigans, etc); while it's never a 1:1 as the series does like to subvert the stories and character arcs in some fun ways, you can generally trace a pretty direct line across them a la 'wow innes and shinon sure share more than a few surface-level similarities' and 'man OG!Jeigan, Gunter, and Marcus are cut out of the same cloth at least appearance wise huh'.

tl;dr -- it's easier than you'd think to pick a few 3H characters that echo gunter's archetype/arcs.

since i've played through 3H a few times, the three characters i figured gunter would share at least a higher-than-background-average similarity in archetypes + taste were:

Hubert - loyal advisor that does the dirty work behind the scenes in black to a charismatic royal. definitely holds a not-entirely platonic flame for said princess who had a Fucked Up past. has a tendency to be the disciplinarian for the others. (also both characters are hellaciously kinky bastards but that's just me)

Jeritza - strict instructor turned surprise(!) villain yandere paladin with a more complex backstory than you'd think. even has the black armor in his alter ego, and dislikes talking to others / prefers being alone. (seriously does that sound familiar or what.)

Hanneman - older (ie, definitely over his sixties versus all of the other babies in age) classic jeigan archetype and another instructor, kind but keeps to himself as well.

I could see people debating Hanneman vs Gilbert on technicalities but whatever, this is my post, I'm sticking to this list. :P

so, next step! looking at serenesforest.net's teatime preferences chart, we find out the favorite teas of the previous characters are (common teas in bold) ...

Hubert - Dagda Fruit Blend, Cinnamon Blend

Jeritza - Albinean Berry Blend, Southern Fruit Blend, Honeyed-Fruit Blend, Sweet-Apple Blend

Hanneman - Bergamot, Sweet-Apple Blend, Honeyed-Fruit Blend, Cinnamon Blend

... and surprisingly, there was a very high level of crossover! :o holy shit i was kind of not expecting that lmao. I checked a few of the other characters just to make sure it wasn't the same 5 teas over and over again, and no, these were pretty rare. that to me, reinforces that hunch that says looking into these patterns was worth it.

therefore, it is in my very humble opinion that (in 3H's style), Gunter's favorite teas would be generally the fruitier-sweet flavored ones, plus cinnamon.

it makes so much sense in hindsight; i mentioned before how FE has a lot of fun playing with the archetypes/subversions, and there's something kind of hilariously adorable about the old strict "traditional" masculine dude fucking loving his fruity teas :D;;

gunter's already (ime) an interesting case of wildly subverting his archetype expectations so this is just yet another fun super-stealth easter egg nod.

to that note---you know what that reminds me of? this meme (below) of the bodyguard and the chick swapping drinks so he can have the fruity one and she can have the beer. :D

absolutely hilarious fun bonus fact in hindsight:

i almost had this as a scene in the gunter x fcorrin slowburn fic a while back, (yes, seriously, even before this post) but it ultimately got cut out for being ever so slightly gimmicky/meme-y in tone versus the rest of the fic which is played more seriously.

... this would make for an A+ drawing shitpost or a standalone fic tho. :D

I was worried about chapter 14, defending GM, but it was surprisingly not so bad! Dimitri got to park on the wider defensive spot with lancebreaker, AS+, and batt wrath/vantage, so none of the cavalry who reached him had a chance to make it past. However, thanks to the efforts of Annette and Constance, basically no one reached him in the first place!

I was also a little concerned about chapter 15, Ailell, since I'm accustomed to struggling with it, but I forgot that it's just a shit ton of axes and slow, low-res, armored enemies, which means rapier-wielding Coco and windmaster Annie were slicing through those mfs like butter. Easiest map of my life lmao.

Constance and Ferdinand shared a lovely, heartbreaking reunion at the Great Bridge of Myrrdin before she proceeded to annihilate him without hesitation or remorse. #Girlboss. Then Lorenz risked it all for a smidgen of pu- (Mercedes snipes me with her magic bow before I can finish the sentence) *ahem* Lorenz rejoined the team for perfectly normal and morally sound reasons.

Lorenz has spent the last few weeks training up to catch up with the ladies, so he's a girlboss too now. Constance has gotten every strength, charm, and speed stat boosters, Annette gets all the magic ones, Lorenz gets all the res and def and splits HP with Annette. Mercedes gets... nothing. She doesn't really need anything since her role is mostly healing Lorenz and sniping with a magic bow sometimes.

Where we stand currently, the team is nice and reliable, and Rodrigue has approximately four days to live.

Kol's viewpoint on Always & Forever and where his ties remain

I WANT TO BE CLEAR BEFORE ANYBODY READS FURTHER: this is NOT hate towards any of the Mikaelson family members, this is Kol’s anger and resentment towards them which personally, I believe is skipped over a lot in canon. My interpretation of Kol consists of him not being all “family is everything” and he doesn’t often end up on good terms with the lot of them.

For a thousand years, Kol had tried to play nice and be brought into the coveted Always and Forever that had been forged by Elijah, Niklaus, and Rebekah. For the better part of a thousand years, Kol was left outside of that bond, always feeling like an outsider. We see a lot of resentment towards his siblings but the most towards Klaus for the constant daggering whenever he felt Kol got underfoot. After a certain point of looking for approval that was never going to be found, he stopped caring about his siblings in such a caring manner. Sure, they were blood, but it made no difference to Kol. The bond of family weakened each time they all conspired to dagger him, cutting his years short which in turn only fueled his rage when he awoke next. By the time we see Kol in The Originals, we can see how much he truly loathes his family. Yes, at times they have actual nice moments, but we also get a glimpse of how much his family takes from him. Yes, they have all taken things from one another Klaus being the worst for that, to be honest. At a certain point, Kol is tired of being the PARIAH, it’s that motivation to break free of his family that is only heightened when he meets Davina.

Kol holds a lot of bitterness for having not been avenged for his death brought on by the Gilberts or even properly grieved for more than a few days (I know it’s a tv show but like damn they could have shown any of his siblings grieving longer than they did).  When Finn hexed his borrowed body, Kol had been working on a dagger to show Klaus his own antics, but he still sides with them to protect baby Hope, he can be a cruel man but even when he knew he was going to die he helped for her. We’re shown a tiny glimpse of the bond he shares with Hope, I believe it is that of a strong one. He cared for her wellbeing and wants her to do well. He is the protective uncle if the occasion calls for it.

The straw that broke the metaphorical camel’s back was when after he’d killed Davina and had the chance to bring her back, Elijah and Freya stole that opportunity of happiness, even knowing what it would do to Davina. We get to see his rage directed to Freya and it honestly isn’t far off. It’s justified. In the long term we all know why they did what they did, but Kol did not care. He meant what he said: “you can all rot in hell for all i care.”

Being stuck with his siblings for all those years in the sleeping spell was his worst nightmare, he is angry but has no means of getting distance. It’s probably a solid 3 years before he even considers forgiving them. It’s not a kindness he wants to extend but given the circumstances, he felt that he must. Davina wouldn’t have wanted him to be at odds with them forever. In the end, he does make up with the lot of them, but he will never truly buy into “Always and Forever”. 

KOL DOES WHAT IS CONVENIENT FOR HIM, HIS WIFE OR TO BENEFIT HIS NIECE. He plays nice, attends family gatherings, and even accepts the hollow into his body, partly to protect Hope. (Having to stay separate from his siblings was a bonus). Even when they were preparing for the Hollow to be put into all four of them and Rebekah stated that they had a good run Kol says nothing and looks away.

KOL BOTH LOVES AND HATES HIS FAMILY; he will do what is required but hardly anything extra unless it surrounds Hope or himself. He has a sore spot for his sister, Rebekah, unable to say no to her much of the time but for the rest of his siblings, it’s harder for him to truly appreciate them.
