Here's a list of ingredients with various protective and cleansing properties that I've found useful in my closet witch practice! Note that I'm not an expert and these are just my own experiences and interpretations.
Eggshells! Great protection qualities and can also be used for renewal spells as well. A good easy spell would be sprinkling bits of it around the front of your home with the intent of providing protection
Salt, a classic cleansing ingredient that you'll find in your mom's kitchen. Various kinds have slightly different properties. Tip: if you add ashes to it, then it becomes black salt, which in my experience is very a strong cleanser especially if you add a bit of moon water. It becomes a paste and can be used for various things such as sigils
Iron nails. Not only protective, but can deflect back. Like a "back the fuck off" kind of protection. Bonus if it's rusty
Thorny vines, barbs, etc can function like nails
Pinecones. Similar to eggshells, but a bit more spicy (mess with me and I'll nip you back) but not as intense as nails. Also has great renewal properties since it's a seed
Obsidian, a great protective crystal to have on hand
Custom protection sigil, all you need is a pen, paper, and intuition. Or just write it with charged water on yourself
Moon water, especially full moon water. Very strong cleansing
Incense and smoke cleansing, I like using rose. DO NOT USE WHITE SAGE
Enchant jewelry or something you have on you on a regular basis with protective and positive energy properties. It can be as easy as making a sigil for it and activating said sigil by burning or tearing it up or dipping it in charged water. Very secretive!
Pepper! Again, similar to the nails, but with an added kick and slightly different way of carrying out things. Instead of deflecting immediately, it deflects over a slower period of time, like how burns do
Ask a deity or spirit you're working with to bless a charm. Very effective! Can be literally anything!

Beginner Friendly Witchraft Books
With a plethora of information available, it's essential to find the right resources to guide you through your magical path. Here are some books I would recommend to any beginner that offer a solid foundation into various paths and topics.
Witchery by Juliet Diaz
The book is a mix of personal experiences, practical instruction, and spiritual guidance, making it suitable for both beginners and people with more experience in the craft.
The Crooked Path by Kelden
This book has been an invaluable resource in my personal craft. It explores various aspects of traditional witchcraft, which if you're interested in I would definitely recommend.
Psychic Witch by Matt Auryn
This book is for anyone curious about the unseen world and their own untapped potential.
Green Witchcraft by Paige Vanderbeck
This is a guide to practicing green witchery, harnessing the natural world's magic for growth, healing, and living in harmony with nature.
Witchcraft for Beginners by Lisa Chamberlain
A pretty informative guide to witchcraft with brief but thorough descriptions of different paths.
Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs by Scott Cunningham
A classic book on magickal herbs
Sigil Witchery by Laura Tempest Zakroff
A comprehensive guide to sigil magick, focusing on helping you develop your own powerful sigil magick practice.
The Witch's Altar by Jason Mankey and Laura Tempest Zakroff
The witch's altar history, creation, and magical power to elevate rituals and connect with the sacred.
These are just ones I've personally found helpful when I first got into the craft, if you want any recommendations for specific topics feel free to ask :).

Pshh, hey. If you are in a budget or if you have to hide your practice, I have some witchy tips for you.
• You don’t need to have an altar. But if you want to, creating an altar on a wooden box is great; you can collect stuff to put in there and you can hide it under your bed.
• You don’t need crystals. Common rocks can be energised to act with a certain intention and they work just as well. You can also associate the place you got the stone/rock from with an intention, such as: a rock from a river or sea can be used for cleansing, purifying, taking energies away from you. A stone found at the property of a hospital can be used for health spells. These are vague examples, so I might make a list later on of all kinds of things you can do with mineral founding.
• Energised water is a great offering to most entities. Water holds memory and it’s easy to energise it with a certain intention if you concentrate.
• You don’t actually need candles. For many deities, an object that remembers you of them works as a taglock, an identification of the deity you’re worshipping. Besides, many spells do not need candles to work, such as: ritual baths, petitions, etc.
Have fun, and remember that your practice isn’t meant to look the same as other practitioners’. We are supposed to do things our own way, as long as it doesn’t harm anyone or anything.
