Letters From Watson Liveblog - June 1
Wisteria Lodge, Part 3 of 4
Well that's certainly interesting, I didn't expect there to be some kind of monster (or what this constable thought was a monster) to be a part of this story. I'm guessing it's going to turn out to be a foreign animal of some kind cause Doyle uses that trope pretty frequently. Probably something from Spain if it's related to Garcia's situation.
The idea of a constable seeing the literal devil and deciding the best course of action is to arrest him is so funny to me. And the fact Baynes says the constable is "on duty" implies that if he were off duty he just wouldn't do anything is even funnier.
I had some real whiplash when I got to this line, as I was having such a fun time with this mystery. Just goes to show I shouldn't forget what period these stories are from, cause then I get surprised with something extremely racist when I should really be expecting it.
Baynes ought to be in it for the sake of solving the murder instead of making a name for himself, but we'll see how well he goes about things. If he really wants to make it as a detective though, what he actually needs is his own Watson. Maybe that constable from earlier who thought he saw the devil, since they seem to have pretty contrasting personalities.
Another very extremely racist description. This story seems to have taken a very discriminatory turn. Looking back at the first two letters, Scott-Eccles does call Garcia's cook a "half-breed" at one point, so I suppose there were hints along the way of all this.
At the very least, it seems Baynes is in the wrong for arresting this large man based on what Holmes says here. So perhaps that person will get a happy ending in the last letter, but I doubt it. Here's hoping though.
Oh man, is Doyle gonna make him related to that small corpse they found in the kitchen? Boy, I hope not. They also found a guitar in the house so hopefully it's that instead.
Just because Miss Burnet is forty and a governess doesn't mean she can't either fall in love or have someone fall in love with her. It's unlikely for that to be the case due to the time period and how it might possibly make the plot too complex, but it's not impossible.
Breaking and entering, a Holmes and Watson classic.
I don't really know how this all fits together. Based on what Holmes said, I think Miss Burnet, Garcia, and his servants planned on killing Mr. Henderson. He found out and killed Garcia and Miss Burnet. This explains Mr. Henderson's fearful behavior as stated by the servants, but of course I don't see the why behind any of it. I guess I'll find out in the last letter.

Excellent advice! A few addtl thoughts from our end:
I would say Slytherin/Snake Primaries don't *have* to look possessive. It's a tendency but not a rule. Hufflepuffs/Badgers can be possessive, too-- of communities, families, spaces, allegiances, identities. And Slytherins can love through service (I do!).
I think to differentiate between a Hufflepuff & a Slytherin you look not a HOW they love-- that's more about healthiness, or sometimes about Secondary. You look at WHY they love, and how they prioritize.
Slytherins love the people who are theirs, who they like best, *and that doesn't feel selfish*-- it feels like what is owed. It's your *job* to stick by your people & not let them down. That's what connection & relationships are for.
But Hufflepuffs? They're gonna feel a bit selfish to think that the people they LOVE must have inherently more value than other people, who they just don't happen to know & love. They're gonna maybe struggle with the idea of "put your own life vest on first," or at least justify that guidance to themselves as "*because* I can't help if I'm drowning."
@wisteria-lodge also talks about a few ways Hufflepuffs/Badgers could look like Snakes/Slytherins-- first, a really "narrow" Hufflepuff who considers very few folks to be "people." This is a good way to make a Hufflepuff villain... And the other is to have a Burned Hufflepuff-- they stick to a small circle of loved ones because they're exhausted or disillusioned or just practical. But it makes them feel like a shitty person, even if a practical one. Again, this can look externally identical to a Slytherin/Snake but internally it *feels* very very different.
Now, to differentiate between a Primary & Model, especially an idealist modelling Slytherin/Snake, I'd look at *what it takes to change their mind*. Like @wisteria-lodge says, they're the immoveable object, right? No matter how "convincing" something is, Snake Primaries not gonna budge on the value of their chosen people. Even if an idealist really really solidly models a Slytherin Primary, they're gonna be willing to question/consider edits to it in a way a Slytherin might inherently balk at. (Though if that Slytherin models an idealist Primary...)
If you want to hear us angst over this particular situation (Slytherin/Snake Primary modeling Ravenclaw/Bird? Ravenclaw modelling Slytherin??), there's two characters in our Sorting The Untamed episode (Lan Xichen & Lan Wangji) who fall into exactly that conundrum. We eventually decided Bird was the model for both of them & Snake the Primary, but you might find the discussion illuminating. Link to listen below, we're still working on the transcript...
https://sortinghatchats.castos.com
do you have any advice on how to tell the difference between a snake primary, an idealist who's adopted the snake ideas of "my people and interests first", and a badger with a tiny circle of who they consider people? also, i'm trying to sort someone who might be a snake secondary with a bird model and i HATE it even though i am one, because it's so hard to tell which one is the actual secondary and which one's the model.
@sortinghatchats describes the Snake primary as the “immovable object,” and I like that. Snakes ideals are personal and small. So when they’re truly threatened, they are able bring out this intense no. you back off. this is mine. They can do that, because there aren’t too many things that really matter. And they’re possessive. Snake primary love looks like possession, Badger primary love looks like service.
Idealists, even idealists with very Snake-looking moralities, are a lot more twisty. I don’t get that solidness from them; that willingness to say I will stand against the world, I will stand against god, I will lie, cheat, steal but I will protect what’s mine.
And oh man, a Badger with a really narrow definition of “people”? Just look for the dehumanization. Are the people outside their circle just not as important (the way a Snake thinks about it) or are they undeserving, impure, monstrous, childlike. Badgers who define narrowly are really nasty. (And are not to be confused with Burned Badgers, who would love to live in a world where they are free to love everyone, but don’t, so they try to make themselves content with just their small community. Snakes are happy with their small circle. Badgers keep try to expand out.)
(And yeah, when you’re sorting someone with a really strong model, especially one that they clearly love and use a lot, it’s really hard to know which is the model and which is the secondary. I guess check to see which tool falls most naturally to their hand when they’re pushed to their limits? Also, people build models for specific reasons or for specific people. So, trying to find a start point/origin for certain behaviors can get pretty good results.)
#wisteria-lodge uses animal names for the houses#because jkr is a butt who doesnt deserve her words being used and platformed#which is super fair#we use the house names because jkr is a butt#and we like to drag her words out of her wheelhouse and into our mud to play#different strokes for different folks

@sortinghatchats: Bokurano Edition
It’s no secret that I’m more or less obsessed with Bokurano, and that I absolutely love @sortinghatchats‘s work. So, finally, I’m going to combine the two and sort the fifteen pilots! I’m using @wisteria-lodge‘s animal terminology and including both burnt and exploded houses. There’s probably mistakes in here since I’m a very new sorter, so don’t expect the work of a veteran here. I’m just doing this because I love sorting and Bokurano’s a good show. Also, there will be SPOILERS under the readmore, as well as the usual content warnings for Bokurano: a lot of child death, plus brief mentions of rape, suicide, and familial abuse. (Let me know if I missed something!)
It’s no secret that Takashi Waku is a Lion secondary. He’s a shounen protagonist. ‘Nuff said. His primary is a little harder to pin down - for a while I was torn between Badger and Lion, but I’m going to go with Badger. While there’s some traces of a glory hound Lion’s “this is gonna be awesome” attitude in him, on the whole he’s driven by the Badger thought process of “the world needs a savior, and, well, I’m the one with the fucknormous robot”.
Masaru Kodama is as exploded Bird primary as they come. He’s organized his life around a strict and unhealthy set of principles, survival of the fittest taken to an extreme, and his wealthy, sheltered upbringing gave him the echo chamber characteristic of exploded Birds. Within the confines of that system, though, he’s a Snake secondary who lives by his whims. Stealing Kokopelli’s glasses, being an ass to the neighborhood cats, going on a rampage through the city - he does things because he feels like it.
Isao Kako’s houses are a perfect storm of tragedy. He’s a very young Bird primary, still working out his system and looking for guidance anywhere he can find it. Even if it’s obviously bad guidance like Dung Beetle’s suggestion to go rape Chizu, he’ll listen to it. The boy’s about to die. His world’s been turned upside down. He’ll grab on to any anchor he can find at this point. His exploded Lion secondary turns those ill-advised ideas into equally ill-advised actions that he throws himself into utterly - Chizu had to kill him to get him off her back.
Speaking of Chizuru Honda, I’m usually not the best at spotting models, but she’s definitely got one. Specifically, she’s a Snake primary modeling exploded Lion. She’s obsessed with a cause - namely, kicking Hatagai’s ass - but not for its own sake. She rages against him because he hurt someone she loves. While she thought their affair was between the two of them, she was willing to forgive him, but when he dragged her sister into it, that was the last straw. Her secondary’s hard to pin down, but I’m guessing a burnt Bird. As a young child, she seemed to appreciate knowledge, but at the time of the series, Hatagai’s betrayal has ripped out her moorings, and she’ll do whatever it takes to make him regret his actions.
Daichi Yamura is also a Snake primary, though if he has a model I can’t see it. More than anything else, Daichi loves his family, and would do anything for them. His secondary seems to be Badger. He’s hardworking, diligent, and finds fulfillment as a provider for his siblings.
Mako Nakarai was easy to pin down as a Badger secondary. She’s studious and hardworking, and loves to work with her hands - all classic Badger secondary traits. Her primary was harder for me to figure out, but Snake seems likely, since deep down she just wants to be loved.
Kunihiko Moji is yet another Snake Badger. He’s devoted to his childhood friends, who are like family to the orphan boy, and he’s very big on the principle that friends should be able to rely on each other. Add his dutiful and reliable personality and he’s a textbook example of his sort.
Maki Ano is definitely a loyalist primary, and I’m leaning towards Badger. She loves her family, she loves her friends, she loves pretty much everyone except Jun (whose treatment of Kana infuriates her) and Dung Beetle (who’s… Dung Beetle). What really solidified her as a Badger primary for me, though, was the very end of her battle, where she opens up the enemy robot’s cockpit, acknowledging the humanity of the people she’s about to kill. Secondary-wise, she has the boisterous determination of a Lion.
Yousuke Kirie was hard for me to figure out, but in hindsight, it seems pretty obvious that he’s a Snake primary who’s just starting to explode. His family is everything to him, and while he’s not outright hostile to others, even friendly (if a bit reserved) towards the other pilots, he’s more than willing to sit idly by while the universe is destroyed if he doesn’t like the way it’s been treating his mom. I ended up having to guess his secondary, but I’ve got a hunch he’s a Bird.
Aiko Tokosumi had me stumped for quite a while, but I think she’s a double Lion. The scene where she lashes out at Yoko for her betrayal gives me Lion primary vibes. Her secondary’s a little easier to pin down as Lion - she exhorts and inspires, drawing on an indomitable Leonine spirit to lift up the ones she loves. She sings, she encourages her friends, she talks her mom out of a mental breakdown. If Lion is the shounen protagonist secondary, Anko’s got the motivational speeches down pat.
Takami Komoda is a pretty clear Bird secondary - proper, patient, doing things the “right” way. I struggled with her primary for a while, but given the sheer amount of strength she draws from her father’s love, I’m thinking Snake. (Bokurano seems to have a lot of Snake primaries whose circles are their families!)
I didn’t get a very good handle on Kanji Yoshikawa, but the sheer amount of scheming he does points me towards a Bird secondary. I’m even less sure of his primary, but that gives me Bird vibes too.
Yoko Machi is so badly burnt I struggled with her sorting for a while, but I eventually pinned down her primary as burnt Lion. Yoko’s a seeker of justice forced into a fundamentally unjust role, and when she comes clean, her Leonine code of honor shines through. (Killing your own brother in retribution for his transgressions would normally point me towards exploded Lion, but let’s be real here, Dung Beetle deserved it.) Her secondary, however, is burnt beyond recognition. With how much she’s suffered, and how little time passed between her redemption and her death, there’s not really much to go on here.
Jun Ushiro-Tanaka. He’s probably my favorite pilot, but more to the point, he’s a textbook burnt Snake primary, an asshole because he doesn’t know what else to be. In the later part of the show he gradually unburns, first taking a few tentative steps outside his little circle of one when he visits Kirie, and ultimately letting his family and Yoko into his heart shortly before his death, until he finally gives his life without hesitation for the sister he once abused. I had trouble with his secondary at first, but I’ve pinned it down as a burnt Badger. For most of the show he’s pretty listless, but when he’s healing in the last days of his life, the thing he does that stuck out to me most was helping Kana and her friends build a treehouse. Helping others. Working with his hands. Badger things.
I think the onion ninjas are lurking around here somewhere.
Finally, Kana Ushiro is, like her brother, an unhealthy loyalist primary, but she’s the opposite unhealthy loyalist primary to him, an exploded Badger. Could the girl with the martyr complex the size of about three Zearths be anything else? She also shares Jun’s Badger secondary, but hers is healthier. She’s comfortable in the domestic role she’s taken on, patiently caring for her brother no matter how strained their relationship may be, and in the epilogue she tenderly cradles a wounded bird as she comforts the Yamura siblings, showing them that their lost brother was a true hero.

Hi hi!
About this blog...
I seem to be incapable of writing *short* posts about the @sortinghatchats system. It's literary analysis and philosophy, but like in a lowkey, chill kinda way, and I love it.
So, I'm gonna separate this stuff onto its own sideblog for organizational purposes. That way I can stop spamming the ppl who are following me for cute animals and memes and stuff with giant text posts, and those of y'all who are actually here for my nerdy-ass monologues don't have to wade through reblog noise. You know, the usual.
Also, I'm not super consistent with tagging, and I don't want to lose track of the stuff I'm writing. It's easier if it just goes here.
About me
You can call me Paint, and I'm a Ravenclaw!
In full, I'm a Ravenclaw primary with a loud Hufflepuff primary model, and a Ravenclaw secondary with an even louder Hufflepuff secondary model. I burn my secondary a lot though. Sometimes my secondary model instead. It's a Depression Thing(tm).
It can be hard to get me to talk in person, but if you hand me a keyboard, I never shut up. I'm very introspective and I like to ramble about myself and my writing (I have 2 novels actively in the works, a fantasy hacker one and a fantasy postapocalyptic kudzu world one), and I also really like to read other people's introspection and rambling about their writing! Send me both of those things. We can be buddies.
Terminology
@sortinghatchats uses the Hogwarts house names for their Houses, as reclamation. Other people prefer @wisteria-lodge's animal names (Lion, Bird, Badger, Snake in place of Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin, respectively); here's why.
I'm cool with using either! The more we use the House names for our own purposes, the more they become ours, I think. But it's totally valid to want to opt out of using JKR's words, and I also like the animal names.
So, if I'm replying/adding to someone else's post, I'll use whatever terms they're using, for the sake of consistency and the OP's comfort. For my own, I'll probably stick to the original names? Might depend on what kind of mood I'm in.
Stuff I'll do here
Sort characters from media I like!
Ask you questions to help you Sort yourself, based on introspection you send in!
Read stuff you send about your OCs! Wanna talk about their Houses? I wanna hear about them!
Talk shop about writing!
Discuss interesting questions about philosophy and the SHC system!
Ramble way too much about my own writing!
Probably some random chaos!
Stuff I won't be doing here
There are people who like starting arguments for fun. I'm not one of them.
This blog will probably get lightly philosophical pretty frequently. It's definitely okay to disagree with me, but don't start flame wars. If you're continually loud and rude/aggressive, or intentionally bring up hot-button topics in order to get a reaction out of people, I will block you. We're not here to discuss politics or disparage religion, and we're not here to gatekeep.
On the issue of whether it's ethical to consume or enjoy media produced by people who are objectively assholes: this is one of those dilemmas where you have to draw the line for yourself on what you're willing to consume, based on how it will affect you personally. I don't want to hear people scream at each other because they draw their lines in different places. I have enough faith in you guys to trust that you're reading critically, so I probably won't be getting deep into this kind of discussion.
Also, I'm not a therapist. That might seem like an odd thing to say, but this blog is about a tool that can be used for self discovery, and I tend to give off therapist vibes for a lot of people. I'll try to help you understand yourself, but my energy does have limits. Like, please don't send me stuff about wanting to hurt yourself. Text 741741 instead (or Google around for a similar line if you're not in the US), there are people who are on call and trained to help.
Thanks for reading!
I can't wait to hear from you :D

A lot of places are named after historical events, battles, and people, so keep that in mind. God/Goddess names tied to your world also work well. Places are also often named after things that the area is known for, like Georgia being known for its peaches.
My brain was fried by the end of this so feel free to add more!
I hope you find this reference helpful and good luck world-building!

Having settle down in a more feline like pose he could stay in this position a long time. In fact he tends to take long ass hell naps this way and the only thing would wake up is if an intruder step inside his home or the fear of someone touching him would prone him into a reacting violently.
He was so worried that he really did upset him every time he looked at him it was like he could see his thoughts on his face. He can tell that he truly did hurt him and he didn’t know how to fix it. It’s not like he can say ‘You can touch me whenever and however you want’ and smile about it. He knows himself far to well than to give him an opportunity or a chance to establish that sort of bond that trust.
The feline in him hissed at that it knew what it wanted and it wanted Levi.
‘Mine’
‘If only it were that easy....’
Eren lacked the confidence despite the fact Levi was any men or women wet dreams... And Levi was his he saw everything but, the piece that labeled him as male. Shifting his gaze upward Levi had just finished grabbing what he needed and was sitting down. By the time their eyes meet Levi posture was tensed and suddenly he couldn’t read his eyes anymore. Was this not right? Not wanting to waste his time he spoke his thought.
“Is this okay?”
“You’re perfect.”
Eren stiffened both his ears and the feline of his animal spirit his very soul twitched back at the resonated purr in Levi’s voice and than something incredible happened.
In the air was such a heavenly sweet electrical scent that made his feline go wild with need. Both him and feline gave a deep yet, silent purr that made it’s way up from his chest and lodge into his throat. For the first time in history some one was aroused because of him and he liked it. If only he were normal than he could of acted upon it.
It’s not unusual for his kind to be very sexual in nature and having sex is a healthy part of their state of mind and gives their body the sort of release that’s needed to keep them from being violent and agitated. Unfortunately he himself haven’t been touched for such a long time that he been getting agitated just about everything. If only he were normal he could of hugged his brothers to keep him balance or have Armin if he were single at the time for a more intimate form of petting.
He was glad that Armin found Erwin that they were happy he could see it in Erwin’s eyes every time he looked at his best friend he could see how devoted Erwin is to Armin. Needlessly to say Eren felt jealous and envious he wanted what Armin have... Sure his friend was insecure about Erwin’s love and devotion to him but, that was love. Armin isn’t exactly the most innocent law abiding pussy cat but, he loves Erwin and would move Heaven, Earth, and Hell for the man he saw as his mate.
It was only a matter of time before Erwin popped the biggest question in their lives and he wanted to be be ‘cured’ so he could be there and congratulate them whole heartily. Unfortunately he doesn’t see it happening any time soon since he’s been ignoring the the therapy of rehabilitating him to touch.
Eren blinked ignoring the itch of his right eye he blinked a few more time to bring the moisture back into his eyes. He was use to staring without blinking but, if he doesn’t blink the contact in his right eye would itch the fuck out of him. So every now and than he would take cat naps with his eye closed. Since he slept lightly he wakes up every time when Levi shifted in chair.
A couple of hours later way passed lunch time Levi spoke up for the first time in hours.
“Eren are you hungry? We’ll be taking a break for lunch anyways…. Do you have any requests? I can pretty much make anything so you can request anything you want. As much as you want too.”
Eren shifted and sat up completely his covered feet touched the floor at long last. He didn’t know how to answer his question.
“I can eat whatever you’re making.” Which was true it was a big step for him to eating someone’s cooking they themselves were touching. Maybe this could be a form of rehabilitation a therapy to cure his phobia.
“Great. Then I’ll make a rainbow….. Feel free to explore the house.”
Eren could use the restroom from drinking all that orange juice, to be truthful he absolutely love Asian cuisine but, he also loves french and Italian dishes that wasn’t so exotic. Eren stood up as he left for the kitchen he went into the bathroom to use the restroom since he was a guest he could never feel free enough to take a dump if he truly needed too.
After he peed and washed his hands he went back to the room where he had posed for Levi. He checked to make sure Levi wasn’t near by before pulling a sketch free of a man laid out in a bed. He was naked borderline sleepy when he woke up and nude. It was such a detailed work of art so they must have been together.
“......” Eren sigh softly before putting it back in his belongings... Since he said he could explored he decided to go outside in just his Jersey shirt and thigh highs. He went straight for the plants and stayed there until he was called back in he didn’t know where else he wanted to go and he didn’t feel right intruding in his home.
Sitting on the grass he sniffed a few flowers and admire the wisteria tree there was a lot of plants on the island and he had a few colorful wisteria trees there too. A place he wanted to keep a secret they were ten colorful ones in the same area over viewing the lake one had to walk under the bridge of wisteria to find it.
It was the one place he didn’t show Levi because it was a place just for him and only for him. He had no hope of finding a mate and the chances of running into one is borderline zero unless his friends bring other friends to the island for visiting or something. Than borderline zero wouldn’t be so zero and their could be a case where someone ship wrack on the island. He had safety measure due to Armin over protectiveness but, they forget he can turn into a cat and alter his size to be a house cat. He can defend himself now than he could have back than and he would be spending a lot of time as feline running all over the place anyway. Not many people wants to fuck with an exotic predator and not be on the lunch menu. He retain his intelligent so he’s a lot smarter than just the basic feral cat.
Half an hour later Levi called him in for lunch so he dust himself off when it came to nature he doesn’t mind getting dirty. It’s with people and objects that people uses he would want to sterilize himself until he deem himself cleaner. When he wiped his covered feet on the welcome mat before he walked into the kitchen with Levi.
He stood when Levi went back to cooking so he didn’t know what he should do he would have sat if he had clean plastic wrap on the stool. He shift his weight from one foot to the other. Levi told him he could eat first he was just gonna finish what he was doing first so Eren nodded his head. He left Levi and was back five minutes top with the plastic wrap he tore off a decent size sheet of plastic and set it on top of the chair he was using when he was satisfied he took a seat and waited.
‘Does he usually cook this much? During breakfast he didn’t seem like the type to have an appetite to feed a small army.’
Eren didn’t frown physically but, he was hoping he wasn’t doing this because of him... Eren sniffed a few plates but, otherwise waited for Levi to take a seat and once he was completely done and was sitting beside or in front of him. He began fixing his plate splitting everything in half. He didn’t want to be rude so he hate everything that was on the counter. The food he didn’t like he ate quickly but, efficiently while the food he liked he ate a little more slower enjoying the taste or savoring it.
“Do you like it, Eren?”
Eren glanced at him and offer a small smile, “It’s good.” He replied than resumed nibbling on the the egg vegetable roll. He went after the dumpling next dipping it in soy sauce.
“It’s very tasty. It’s been a long time since someone cooked for...me.” He didn’t know why he admitted that and now he wished he had taken it back. “Thank you...” He muttered it was long before he waited for Levi to be full off so he could eat the rest of the left over Levi didn’t touch. “Um....do you usually cook this much food, Levi? I feel like you’re cooking this much because of me and you shouldn’t have too.”
Eren can take care of himself and he made some sacrifices but, he can live with that because in a couple of weeks he’ll be free. He won’t be alone if he had animals to keep him company and than there’s the ArFa-Sys type X (Which means Artificial Financial adviser system the type X is rare but, he gave it a name. Her name is ‘L.i.l.y’ short for Leal (loyal), intelligent, Life support, Yun (Chinese meaning cloud; allow consent) He wanted to give her a last name and Lilly Yun is what he’ll call her. Lilly Cloud had such a lovely ring to it.
“I don’t have to but, I want to, Eren.”
Eren flush a little red, “I-is that so. I just....you shouldn’t feel obligated but, if you want to do it than....thank you. I really like it...” Eren placed his hands in his lap looking down. He didn’t know what else to say so when Levi placed deserts in front of them he perked up. He loves crepes and he loves chocolate he dug in happily the smile from this morning.
“Yummy~” He flashed Levi a smile “I really love chocolate but, I adore strawberries.”
He was a lot more open when he got deserts stuffed in his mouth so took his time in eating both of them and licking the ice cream off.
