this is a tangent but your comment that winter only lasts like 2 weeks in perth had me interested, is that really true? i'm from sydney and that's so different to imagine. also, probably i've just forgotten how this was already addressed in the previous story, but is efnisien australian in this au?

Ahaha no that was definitely hyperbole. I mean ‘officially’ our winter lasts about 3 months, but frankly not really. We don’t really get properly cold days except for about 6 weeks. We’ve had hardly any rain this year. We’ve mostly had days of continuous sunlight. And the bulbs started being convinced it was spring about a month ago.

Our summer also ‘officially’ lasts about 3 months, but we can start getting 40C days in October and we can keep getting them through to late April. So...yeah. Our winters are pretty insipid, honestly.

No one in this story is Australian! But they’re probably close to Australian. I always imagined it as a kind of hybrid Australian-UK country. Frankly, it’s not set on a real location anywhere in this planet. It’s like, contemporary-adjacent.
