Excerpt:

Clint makes a strangled noise as the paramedic uses a set of shears to cut the t-shirt open from hem to neck, pulling the scraps aside.

“Was that really necessary?” Clint yelps, hand coming up to cover the words written on his chest, but it’s too late.

It’s one of the largest soulmarks Bucky has ever seen.  The script in Bucky’s neat cursive handwriting starts at the crest of one shoulder and arcs below Clint’s collarbones to end at the crest of the other shoulder, golden letters that no tattoo ink has ever been able to replicate.

What kind of idiot are you?

“Oh, shit,” Bucky says, his heart sinking.  “I wasn’t sure — I hoped I’d said ‘hi’ or something first.  I’m so — I’m so sorry.”  Clint has had that scrawled across him his whole life, just because Bucky is a thoughtless idiot.

Clint’s eyes dart up to Bucky’s, widening a little.  “Is that really what you said?  I thought maybe, but —” he trails off.

Bucky can’t manage to assemble a coherent sentence, still grappling with what he’s done, but he unstraps his tac vest and casts it aside, pulling his shirt up to show the words he’s carried his whole life, three rows of untidy golden handwriting above his left hip.

There’s a weak spot

in the armor plating

on the left side.

“Holy shit,” Clint says softly.  “That’s — that’s pretty definitive, huh?”

I need you all to know that I am 11 working days away from leaving my public-facing job at the UK's largest military charity, yes the one with 'royal' in the name, the Queen as our patron and a supporter base that is largely elderly and very patriotic, and I am taking it as a personal insult that the Queen has chosen to make those last days a living hell for me. I am going to have so many phone calls where I'll have to be 'saddened by this great loss' and 'touched by your kind words'.

Just...why would the Queen pick on me like this? What did I ever do to her?

This is SV Tenacious, the only tall ship in the world designed and built to be sailed by a truly mixed ability crew, including including disabled people, those with mental health conditions or long-term ill-health issues. She has features such as wheelchair lifts and wide decks that provide equal and easy access throughout the ship, a speaking compass that enables those with visual impairments to steer the ship and signage in braille, guidance tracks, tactile stair strips and raised directional arrows on handrails for people with visual impairments.

I’ve sailed on her several times, and seen wheelchair users go up the mast and visually impaired people steer her into harbour, and the impact on people’s self-confidence that being a full part of the crew, able to take part in every aspect of sailing a ship, has on people.

All her voyages had to be cancelled over the pandemic, and now the charity that runs her, the Jubilee Sailing Trust, are facing administration if they can’t raise a certain amount by Thursday 14th. If they do, it will be a huge loss for a lot of people.

I realise this is a difficult time, financially, for lots of people, but if you can spare anything to help keep them going, please do, or even just share this post in case others can help. This charity means a lot to me and my family.

“Ah, so you are soulmates,” said the scientist, Kozak, turning Joe’s wrist in the restraints to see his zeroed numbers. “We weren’t sure.”

 She was holding a scalpel in one hand. Nicky couldn’t take his eyes off it, knowing that it was going to be slicing into Joe’s flesh soon.

 “We’ve never kept a secret of our love,” said Joe. “Nicky is everything to me. And you’re intending to hurt him. How do you think that will end for you?”

 Kozak gave him a dismissive look, one which Nicky was sure she would come to regret. “I’ve always wondered how these work,” she said, looking back down at the faint red of Joe’s numbers. “They make no biological sense, you know."

Clint and Bucky have been fucking after missions for a while but as long as Bucky tells himself they’re just buddies letting off steam, he can pretend it doesn’t mean anything queer. Which works great, right up until it doesn’t.

Just as he’s trying to distance himself from Clint to avoid the mess he’s made, an altercation with a mutant ends with both of them sent back in time to the place Bucky still considers home: 1939 Brooklyn.

Trying to lay low and not fuck up the timeline, they're forced to depend on each other to survive in the past. While Bucky slowly starts to work through his issues, Clint throws a wrench in the works by making pals with the guys next door - a much younger Bucky and Steve.

Been waiting to post this for so long! Hope you all enjoy it! Mind the homophobia tags.

Bucky… is going to kill Clint. Suddenly all of Clint’s odd comments and strangely demure behavior and even his clothes start to make a kind of insane sense. He’s play-acting at more than just a first date. Clint’s pretending to be someone else entirely, and Bucky’s not sure if it’s a joke or a bad attempt at seduction, but either way a heads-up before the evening started would have prevented a hell of a lot of confusion and maybe prevented Bucky from nearly murdering his husband in a bar in Hell’s Kitchen on a Wednesday night.

for the ficlet prompts: tv baking competition au

This is kind of what you asked for, and yet, it is not at all what you asked for.

Bucky doesn't know how or why he got drawn into TV cooking shows. He doesn't cook, for fuck's sake. He didn't cook before his accident, and he sure as fuck isn't chopping onions with only one arm these days. Bucky spends half his time wrapped in his comforter eating ham sandwiches.

It started, he thinks, with Great British Bake Off. There's just something comforting about that show. It's just nice. It was something to do when Bucky couldn't even drag himself out of bed, deep in a dark hole of depression an self-loathing and pain. He could turn on GBBO and just... let his brain rest.

And then it sort of... expanded. From baking competitions to cooking competitions to plain old cooking shows.

And now he's watching YouTube episodes of Oh Crepé!, featuring a tall, handsome blond man who seems to enjoy fucking up famous recipes and telling bad jokes.

Bucky's not even sure how he found the guy. But he's funny (if you like puns, and god help him, Bucky does), and kind, and laughs at himself more than he laughs at other people, and he's fuckin' deadly with a knife, and there's something soothing about listening to him describe his sexual attraction to a pork pancake.

Okay, that part's a little weird, but Bucky likes weird, and he likes that the guy - he's called Clint, Bucky knows that, because the girl behind the camera who heckles him incessantly says his name with with varying degrees of exasperation at least twice an episode - is so at ease with himself, so comfortable in his own skin, despite bandages, and bruises, and his inability to pronounce 'self-aggrandizing'.

He's also Deaf, and that's nothing at all like being an amputee, but something about knowing that makes Bucky feel like one day he'll be okay too.

No medals for me, but a personal best - this is the longest fic I've posted (except for the fic I co-wrote with a friend, which I'm choosing not to count). As rocky as the start of their rivalry turned friendship is, Bucky and Clint part in a friendly way after they have fought the red room. Their time apart never lasts long though, and they slowly but surely grow closer to one another. The lines between friendship and developing crushes start to blur quickly, but neither of them talks about it.

But then, Clint is missing and Bucky is concerned, so he heads out on a rescue mission. As it turns out, Clint’s past has caught up with him, in the form of Swordsman, his former mentor and tormentor in the circus.

The aftermath of all of this is messy, not only because Clint is struggling with old and new trauma, but Bucky has nightmares, trauma and bad days of his own to deal with. Neither of the two of them are quite ready to talk yet. But they are now closer than ever, and their ever developing, romantic feelings for one another are a whole different situation to deal with on top of everything else.

It isn't until it's almost too late, that the two of them finally start having that long-overdue conversation...

Excerpt:

He must make some noise at the thought of it, because Clint snuffles again and then cracks his eyes open.  He blinks for a moment and then smiles, wide and bright and joyful.

“Guess it wasn’t a dream then,” Clint murmurs, voice all sleep-rough and raspy.  

Bucky reaches out, brushing a wisp of hair back from Clint’s face, and Clint closes his eyes and presses up into the touch of Bucky’s hand with a happy hum.  

“You can sleep a little longer,” Bucky says when Clint opens his eyes again, signing along with the words, and the sound of his own voice surprises him, hoarse with emotion.  “I’ll put the coffee on.”

Clint seems like he’s already sliding back into sleep.  He pulls the pillow closer, snuggling into it and breathing deep.  “‘M keepin’ you,” he mumbles.

“Yeah, sweetheart,” Bucky says, his throat so thick with affection it feels like he can hardly get the words out.  “I’m keepin’ you too.”

Myself and the lovely @misterknife have been sneakily talking, and we think it would be fun to run a Winterhawk AU bang! Now, we know everyone’s busy with the Winterhawk Olympic Bang, among other things (and kudos to you, that’s a hell of a thing) so this definitely won’t be happening until next year (2022) at the earliest.
