Tekken 8 - Lee Chaolan:
"Second to last character to be revealed in the main roster, and it's the iconic Lee Chaolan. I really don't like his main design (1 of his alternate outfits it's way better) but I am digging his new moveset. He looks kind of different, in terms of movement, but I'm kinda into it. Also, that winpose is hilarious (watch the trailer for the entire sequence)."

One (Semi-obscure) Fact About Every Guilty Gear Character
I like trivia. And I like Guilty Gear. Being a series that’s been around for the better part of two decades, it’s only natural there’s some details that are less known about. So I wanted to make a silly little compilation about that, inspired by ‘One Obscure Fact About Every Total Drama Character’ by voiceunderthecovers on Youtube.
As the title suggests, I also specifically did my best to pull out facts that may be less known even to fans of the series, so ideally there’s no ‘Sol is based on Freddie Mercury’-tier stuff here. I tried to find something interesting for everyone!
Characters are listed in order of their first playable games
Missing Link
Sol Badguy- Sol was originally meant to be voiced by actor Koichi Yamadera rather than developer Daisuke Ishiwatari, but given the developer's budget at the time, he would have been too expensive to afford
Ky Kiske- While Ky has been consistently voiced by Takeshi Kusao for the entire series' run in Japanese, he has been given a different voice actor for every dubbed game for both the English and Korean versions. This means that Ky has had seven official voice actors in total, making him among the highest of the cast alongside Testament
May- May is one of only a few characters in the series to have a tattoo, and only one of two where it is not implied or indicated to be magical in some way, alongside Potemkin's barcode
Potemkin- Several of Potemkin's moves across games reference Hinduism. Strive's 'Garuda Impact' is named after a birdlike demigod that acts as a mount for Vishnu, while Xrd SIGN's 'Trishula' is named for a divine trident-like weapon wielded by the god Shiva
Chipp Zanuff- According to prototype and side materials, Chipp is 22 years old as of Missing Link.
Faust- Possibly to go along with his nature of being a doctor with the desire to treat anyone he comes across, Faust's blood type is O, the universal donor
Axl Low- Axl claims the specific date he desired to return to was May 14, 1998. This is the same date that Missing Link was released in Japan
Millia Rage- According to her Xrd SIGN story mode, Millia's favorite flower is the Easter Lily
Zato-1- Based on his abduction dialogue in Strive, Zato believes in aliens
Kliff Undersn- Despite being removed from the Wii version of XX Accent Core, along with Justice, both their names and endings remain in the game's code. They also both contain original art that had never been used up to that point
Testament- The twin demons that Testament summons in Strive are the same singular familiar they possessed in prior games, simply named ‘Succubus,’ possibly split into two entities similarly to Ramlethal's familiar Lucifero
Justice- In Missing Link, Justice was voiced by Arc System employee Takuya Morito, who also voiced Chipp
Baiken- Baiken was initially a difficult character to include in the series, as due to being an amputee, it brought up issues with compliance standards at the time
X
Anji Mito- one of his aliases, Hirasawa, was actually planned to be his name during the start of X's development
Venom- During the winpose where he spins his cue, it is able to interact with any remaining balls that are still set up nearby
Johnny- Johnny is implied to have a close history with Gig, the main antagonist of the DS spinoff game Guilty Gear Dust Strikers
Jam Kuradoberi- In Blazblue, Litchi Faye-Ling's theme 'Oriental Flower' is a remix of her X theme, 'Babel Nose'
Dizzy- In the Guilty Gear XX Burst Encyclopedia, full-bodied sketch concepts exist for her wing entities, Necro and Undine. It is unknown currently if the designs were ever meant to be implemented into the game or if they were simply unused concepts
XX
Bridget- Bridget’s usage of a yo-yo as a weapon was inspired by a world-class yo-yoer that Daisuke Ishiwatari knew during the development of XX
Slayer- In SIGN, Slayer is shown to be able to control his limbs even after being severed
Zappa- In his Accent Core character art, Zappa is drawn with six fingers on his right hand. This has never appeared before or since, and is likely just an error. However, in some circles, six fingered-hands are viewed as spiritually significant
I-no- Her main guitar weapon, 'Marlene,' closely resembles the real-life Starplayer TV model manufactured by German company Duesenberg. One of her design inspirations, Sheena Ringo, owned a similar guitar, which she referred to as 'Dietrich.' Collectively, both may be a reference to German actress Marlene Dietrich
Robo-Ky- In #Reload, Robo-Ky is unique in that he has two separate standard match themes, with a day version and a night version depending on what round is occurring
Overture
Sin Kiske- In all of his playable appearances, Sin has never been depicted wearing socks
Izuna- Despite often being assumed to be a kitsune due to his foxlike ears, it is implied through his story in the Overture Original Material Collection that Izuna is actually a tsukumogami made from a hairpin
Dr. Paradigm- Prior to Strive bringing back several actors from SIGN, Paradigm was the only character to have a consistent dub voice, retaining the same actor in SIGN that he did in Overture
Raven- The portraits used for his non-playable appearance in XX are traced from the illustrations used in the side novel Lightning the Argent
Xrd
Bedman- He shares his voice actor with the character Marth from the Fire Emblem series in both his original Japanese and English dub voices, Hikaru Midorikawa and Yuri Lowenthal respectively
Ramlethal Valentine- Ramlethal is the only Xrd Valentine to not be associated with a holiday
Elphelt Valentine- Elphelt is the only playable female character depicted wearing earrings. There are more playable men in Guilty Gear that wear them than women.
Leo Whitefang- The PS3 console version of Xrd SIGN contains unused prototype art for an alternative version of Leo's character portrait
Jack-O Valentine- Similarly to Elphelt and Ramlethal, Jack-O is mechanically unusual as a character, in her case due to her servant-summoning mechanic. It is often believed that this is a reference to the tower-defense style gameplay of Overture, where the original Valentine appeared.
Kum Haehyun- Haehyun only speaks with her own voice during her outro animation. All of her other dialogue is spoken through her mech
Answer- Possibly as a way of properly proportioning the third lens of his glasses, Answer's model contains a second nose above the first. This was left in place and simply made invisible rather than be removed in the final version
STRIVE
Nagoriyuki- Though he was teased in the very first trailer for Guilty Gear Strive at EVO 2019, he remained unnamed for almost a year until his official trailer was released along with Leo’s in July 2020
Giovanna- Despite it being her debut game, across the entire script of Strive's story mode, Giovanna only has 22 lines of spoken dialogue, totaling 157 words overall. For reference, Sol speaks more than that during his first 10 lines
Goldlewis Dickinson- Along with Bridget, Delilah, and the Valentines, Goldlewis is one of the few characters who canonically has a sibling
Happy Chaos- In Baiken's Strive DLC trailer, an error occurs near the beginning where during a brief pan along the character's name, a trait consistent along all of the Seaon 1 DLC trailers, it erroneously reads as 'Happy Chaos' rather than 'Baiken.' It is unknown how this mistake occurred or made it to the final version, though it was fixed by the next installment, as Testament's trailer lacks this error
Delilah- Her English voice actor, Jessica DiCicco, voiced another adolescent telekinetic, Franke Athens, in the cult classic game Psychonauts
That Man- With his full name being given as Asuka R. Kreutz, he is one of only two characters to be given a middle initial, alongside Bedman

RUFUS from STREET FIGHTER
Tumblr media
Gender identity: agender, butch, teratid (a gender connected to embracing traditionally "ugly" qualities), he/him they/them it/its
Why would transition save them?: "to explain, teratid is a diastine (somewhere in between outherine, which is a gender not related to manhood, womanhood, androgyny, or neutrality but can be a combination of those qualities unheard of, and xenine, which is the quality of being xenogender, which is commonly defined as having a nonhuman or abstract perception of gender) gender related to embracing traditionally or conventionally "ugly" qualities such as fatness, unusual gender nonconformity, hairiness, bad teeth, or grotesqueness in appearance or dress as examples. rufus is a fat person who outright embraces fatness within his gender, adoring their body and even caressing itself while saying "I'm sexy!" to the viewer in a winpose. In addition, I personally see Rufus as someone who queers gender in a masculine AND diastine way, while being agender and teratid (aka not being a man. but putting on this exaggerated, drag-like performance of masculinity) thus making him butch as a gender."--mod @sunkern-plus

what're some of your personal fav games? and what do you like most about them?
psychic force - it's just really cool! me and my friends started playing it back in times of yore because it did a much better job of being a videogame about taking part in anime fight scenes than any of the actual anime games to which we had access back then. especially the near-unplayable dragonball gt: final bout.
last blade 2 - aesthetically, thematically, and mechanically beautiful. i feel like, even after 20+ years, i still find new little details every time i play it. and things i've posted about before, like the way hibiki breaks down into tears for her "winpose" if she lands a killing blow on her opponent are just so good.
altered beast - i'm specifically talking about the mega drive version. it's less than ten minutes long and it's not particularly good, but it's a game that i've completed literally hundreds of times. it's also the kind of game that makes me want to make games myself, there's just something about it i find really inspiring.
shiren the wanderer - an excellent game that feels like it could be infinitely big (and its sequels are even bigger!), plus i think it gets across a positive message about friendship and community in a way that only a videogame could.
shenmue trilogy - without question, the best story ever told in videogames. it starts out seeming like it's a simple revenge story, but even early on you start to see that it's actually a story about the futility of revenge, the eauty of life, and the importance of the bonds between people.
king of fighters 2000 - i love the king of fighters series and its cast of characters. i picked this one to represent it because of one thing: if you play through arcade mode as the k' team, the little transition from the ending to the credits, where the first few piano notes of the end credits theme play, is really fucking cool.
grandia - maybe the pinnacle of videogame rpgs? graphics, world design, mechanics, sound, story, and characters all combine into a game that just does an incredible jobs of capturing the spirit of adventure
mushihimesama futari - one time i was playing the xbox 360 port of this game, and i went into a trance. without knowing it, 20 minutes passed and i played through most of the game on a single life. that feeling was amazing and like nothing else that's ever happened to me while playing a videogame.
okay, i think 8 is enough, or else i could keep doing this all day.

Hi!
Recently I've been getting into KOF, which also means Ive found new favorite characters to talk about and sometimes ramble on about too.
EXHIBIT A: Irish Krizalid from KOF '99
Tumblr media
(art drawn by @/tanzong830 on twitter/youtube, click here to go to the direct source!)
one of the big three of NESTS, I hear!
this man has a hard boss fight (if you dont cheese it) and cool asf design. Headcannons go crazy with this one. Also might be my main on KOF 2002UM soon. I wish he'd be part of one of the boss challenges or DLC on KOFXV as well..
overall: I like this character alot and it seems that lots of others do too
EXHIBIT B: Shun'ei from KOFXIV
Tumblr media
one of the renders of Shun'ei from XV, taken from the SNK wiki
This character just screams "Modern new-age Protagonist" and I love it. His motion inputs are simple enough in XV, his climax super looks fucking awesome, and he also feels cool to play as.
I wonder how his story's going to end, I don't know... I hope it ends well, considering that he may have mastered his powers according to Team Hero's ending in KOFXV. His headphones, his outfit, the cool jacket he wears on his back, auughh so cool...
EXHIBIT C: K', from KOF '99
Tumblr media
The Beast of Prey himself, with wicked-ass magic(?) shades, the fire from his robot arm, and the cool outfit. yeh. Also his name is pronounced K dash since there's a dash in his name-
winpose in 2001 taken from the SNK Wiki
God. So cool. If you wanted to see "THE cool new-age protagonist before cool new-age protagonist was a thing", K' was your guy. Granted I was born nowhere near the time '99 came out, but ever since I discovered KOF, K' has been one of my usual picks despite knowing fuck-all about how to play him properly, because I think he's cool as hell
Sure he's a bit edgy but he's got moves to back it up. his shades, his heavy treanchcoat and leather(?) pants, the robot arm, his fire, goddddddsdfakjsdfjklasdfh
he's so damn cool.
and that sums it up about my KOF rambling. tl;dr: Krizalid, Shun'ei, and K' are so cool... and so is KOF

[Tekken 8 Spoilers]
I cannot, for the life of me, fathom where this retcon of "You know, Kazuya and Jun actually liked each other all along" came from. Like, in Tekken 2 none of them interact with each other in their endings and now, in Tekken 8, she's all like "uwu I'll save you my beloved Kazuya" when she's never ever shown signs of caring for him ever before 😭🤣 Harada himself said in a tweet that the only reason Jin exists is because the devil coerced them into having a child to have a spare person to process in case Heihachi did manage to kill Kazuya. That was obviously before the devil gene retcon came into play, and Harada is not always the most reliable source of information but it's the closest we ever got.
If we're taking non-canon media into account, the only two instances of them having an actual bond is that terrible old anime and, I think, Devil's Tekken Tag 1 ending where he carries an unconscious Jun away. In all other instances, Jun either chooses to not interact with Kazuya or is visibly upset any time she does so. In her Tag 1 and 2 endings there are no signs of him whatsoever, in her Tag 2 winposes she's happy to see Jin but looks scared / upset when paired up with Kazuya. In the new anime when Jin asks about his father she immediately shuts him down and her tone becomes much more severe and dismissive. Worst of all, in his Tag 2 ending Kazuya straight up kills her. The Tag games and the anime are all non-canon, sure, but it's not like the characters behave out of character, like, Paul is still goofy and hanging out with the Laws and whatnot, Xiaoyu is hanging with the girls and daydreaming about Jin, Lili is bothering Asuka and so on. Everyone does pretty much what you'd expect them to. But now all of a sudden in his own non canon Tekken 8 ending she's his wife and he loves her because she's strong and Jun dreams of them being a happy family... Girl...
I won't question their affections for each other any longer, since apparently this is the route we're going for, but manifesting a bond out of thin air is cringe and a disservice to Jun's character

I didn't know Lars' winpose against Jin got re translated ??? This is kinda cute and wholesome and it's making me much more excited about their dynamic in Tekken 8
Tumblr media
But like this whole alliance with Jin, Lars, and Lee is really interesting, and I really can't wait how all three of them are gonna interact with one another.
Especially Jin and Lee! I can already imagine their possible dynamic.
Lars and Lee must have really shown some compassion for Jin that it made Jin trust them, and I'm very much looking forward to how it's gonna be developed and portrayed in Tekken 8 >.<

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 - Dragunov:
"Here's our russian boy in the game, and he's like Bryan to me. I may suck with both dudes, but I understand their appeal. Either way, he may be an evil dude, but he has some of the most funniest moments in the game. Also, he has some of the creepiest moves and winposes."
PS: the gameplay used for this gifset is not mine. The original video belongs to the user: Julius Alford, on Youtube.
