This genuinely sucks. RIP ICQ. RIP to that entire era of online communication. All four of the major, big IM platforms of the 00s, reduced to just a burning memory.

I may be 31, but this coming June 26th, that's the day my childhood ends.

Like, man, idk, I'm genuinely mourning the final death of the environment in which I experienced my adolescence.

Not ICQ, I didn't really use ICQ, but like, what it means symbolically that all four of those platforms are going to be gone.

It's a lot.

So @treesareprettygreat asked about this gif on this post. I am sure younger generations don't remember of msn messanger or windows live messanger.

It was created first in 1999, and was very popular: in 2009 it has more than 330 MILLION!!! active users!

It looked something like this:

BUT! You could change the background of the chatbox and even could add little gifs that appeared in words. Like if you added a sparkling Hello gif to the world hello then every time you typed hello it appeared on screen with a pink, sparkling gif. Or typing Good night and see a sleeping teddybear. Everyone has million version and it was sometimes confusing and even annoying, but thinking back, it was pretty fun 🤭💕

Oc new things come and after 2009 it was on his death and died naturally, but I really liked it. I used it as a young teen, roleplaying, creating new friendships, and being in touch with friends (no, before smartphones and FB you can't just drop a text to your friends). I have many great memories about that messenger, and I am glad Op chose this because a lot of memories come out now 🥹
