Redid the first digital art piece I ever posted: a scene from @hobbitsetal‘s story “Mute” about a kind-hearted human healer and an escaped and mute faery slave. Can’t believe the story’s nearing the end now!!!

Efterklang - Windflowers
Efterklang – Windflowers
Efterklang has named their sixth album (the first on City Slang) after the windflowers that blossom and covers the danish forrest floors each spring. Efterklang has created an album with a fascinating blend of rich electronic textured sounds, string arrangements and divine aerial harmonies. The songs are soothing, warm and optimistic with a serene connection to the nature. The album offers…

Twenty-first-century witch Seraphina was not a witch by trade—a magic-less town was possibly the worst place for her to be. Yet she didn't want to leave the town, preferring to sit in her one-bedroom apartment with a good book and a cup of coffee. But fate had different plans in store.
“And where on earth is my life taking me?” She groaned, dramatically leaning back. “I am going to die alone and miserable all because I can’t find any good reading material.”
Ginger meowed petulantly, twining around her ankles. Absentmindedly, Sera reached down to pet him.
Hayley raised an eyebrow and sipped from her drink, staring pointedly at the large orange cat.
“Can't you muster even a shred of sympathy for me? Your best friend is going to die miserably.”
Sighing, Hayley put the drink down. “You know, there’s this fantastic place called the bookstore.”
"I've already read all the books they carry." Sera sunk her face into her hands. "Twice. Our town's too small to have a good collection, Ley."
"Even the physics textbooks?"
Sera looked up and squinted. "Textbooks aren't books," she declared. "Books are meant to be fun to read. Textbooks are torture devices masquerading as books."
"I feel like there are at least a few scholars that would disagree with you." Hayley glanced out the window, tugging at her sleeve. "Besides, you wouldn't have this problem if you agreed to join me on my road trip. Windlow will definitely have a few new bookstores for you to check out."
Sera groaned again. "As much as I would love to come with you, there's no way I can leave Ginger unattended for that long."
And really, it wasn't that much of a lie. She really didn't want to leave Ginger alone, it just wasn't as much of an issue as she made it sound. Her landlord had offered to feed Ginger if she ever wanted to go on vacation.
"After all, I know what it's like to be young and on your own," he'd chuckled. "Just let me know when and I'll take care of him while you're gone."
Still, she'd spent her whole life in this city, and she'd heard the stories about those that left. Leaving had led to the deaths of her parents and their coven, and Sera wasn't keen on following their path. She was perfectly content with never leaving the town or going out and seeing the world.
Hell, these days she didn't even bother experimenting with her potions—not as if anyone would ever get any use out of them. The most use they ever saw would be when she wanted to style her a particular way or pull an all-nighter for her chemistry course.
Shitty web novels withstanding, there was absolutely nothing wrong with having to live in this town forever.
Nothing at all.
"Sera," Hayley sighed—again, Sera noted, flicking at her nails. "We both know Ginger's not the real reason stopping you. I don't even know what else could make you not want to leave. Don't you like trying new things?"
But there was a difference between trying to learn pottery and leaving their town. One of those led to messy hands. The other led to a lion's maw.
It wasn't like Hayley would understand. After all, as far as Sera knew, almost all the town's inhabitants were unaware of magic And in their eyes, it had been a work trip that killed her parents and all of their friends.
She wrinkled her nose. "I like trying some things. For example, I'd never try something like taking a physics course. That'd just be unnecessary torture."
Hayley rolled her eyes and laughed. "I still don't get what you have about physics. You'd willingly take any other science, but you won't even sit in for my lectures."
"Because it's physics! No one sane likes physics!" She threw her hands up in frustration, glad that Hayley had dropped the topic. "You might have some superhuman ability to understand it, but that doesn't mean you can look down on the rest of us mere mortals."
After all, staying in the town was what she wanted. There was no point in wanting to read new books.
And so, in true cinematic fashion, just as Sera was beginning to push the conversation to the back of her mind, the ancients arrived.
They'd disguised themselves as three siblings, saying that they were looking for a long-gone relative. And maybe that alone might not have been strange, but then they'd gone on to describe who they were looking for.
Someone with deep black hair pinned back in an elaborate hairstyle and who bore a pin with the symbol of five crows, said the brother.
She'd heard them on her way to the bakery, ducking around a corner and peering to see if she recognized them—her parents had friends from other cities who used to visit them, occasionally. It was strange that they didn't use her name, but perhaps they'd put more stock into the visual memory of the townspeople.
But when she narrowed in on the slight point of their ears and their bony fingers, her heart sank. It may have simply been a coincidence—a family who'd inherited unlucky traits—but she knew, deep down, who they were.
And who they were here for.
Peeking out once more, she saw the man they were talking to frown in irritation. "Black hair? Elaborate hairstyles? I don't think I've seen anyone matching that description before. Now, if you'll excuse you, you're going to make me late for work."
It should probably have been a relief that so many people in their town had dark hair and that her mother had always kept the pin in a drawer. Yet Sera knew—with the same certainty she'd had when she'd seen them—that it wouldn't take long before they found her.
Magic left its traces on people, and Sera hadn't bothered masking its smell much these days.
Throwing the hood of her hoodie up, she sped off towards her apartment.
Ancients, she thought, cursing. Of course! Of course, because which dark creature hadn't her parents angered before they died? But why now, and why ancients?
They'd served as a warning in her childhood—a warning that it was never good to wield dark magic. After all, all ancients had once been vampires, but any vampire that constantly used their magic and strength for evil would eventually morph into an ancient. Their hearts would shrivel and darken and make it impossible for them to feel love, and their human forms would forever have sharp ears, bony fingers, and jagged fangs.
"And so, Sera," her dad had said, "You must never brew a potion for evil—not even for little Mary." He poked her nose.
"But little Mary's mean and laughs at my hair!" she'd said, pouting.
Sera shook away the memory, already running through her options. Summer had only just begun, so she had four months before she'd be expected back for university. She could probably hide in her apartment, she thought. All it would take would be a quick bath in salt to remove the smell of magic every time she used a potion, and she'd be safe.
The ancients probably didn't know any of their names, considering they hadn't used any. It was a small relief, in the face of three ancients in her town.
Everything would be fine.
But still, she hesitated when she reached her door. It wouldn't hurt to be prepared, would it? She wrinkled her nose as she reached into the closet to grab her dusty travelling bag.
It wouldn't be hard to toss some of her clothes into the bag. And one of her spare chargers.
Sighing, she grabbed her laptop. There wasn't much use in trying to sleep anytime soon.
Yawning, Sera yanked the curtains open. But even before she had flung them all the way, she froze, face freezing.
That was undoubtedly one of the ancients, pacing in front of her apartment.
Sera's hand shook as she pulled the curtains back, blindly grasping at her phone. With shaking hands, she dialed Hayley's number, tapping her phone as it rang on.
"So. About that road trip? I've changed my mind."

“You told me you had him in captivity!”
“And so we do. Zorn is here, bones and all.” She smiled at him.
He growled. “Where is the Keeper?”
“I don’t know.”
They gazed at each other, sun hitting the looking glasses in every corner.
“The new heart is young,” she finally said. She dunked her finger in the bowl, swirling its shimmering contents. “Sounds healthy.”
“I will kill you one day, witch.”
“No doubt,” she laughed. “But not before I see you fail three times. Oh, you are in for a surprise.”

mute ideas is where i kept all my ideas to pester Hobbs with for mute, including my fanfiction of Windlow kids

“How could you do this?"
Cahan didn't strike him back, which Rhys found odd, if not disconcerting. Instead, he laughed, in his soft, breathy sort of way. "We've always spoke of this. Weren't you the one who embarrassed Ammila last week?"
Rhys crossed his arms. "That's different," he said.
Cahan laughed again, this time with a choking sound. He looked above them, watching the trees sway like a green ocean. "I'm going to miss this place," he whispered. He closed his eyes, breathing in the soil and fresh magic.
Rhys glared at the branches weaving toward his brother, reaching as if to say goodbye. "You won't have to," he said sullenly. "You probably won't make it off the grounds without tripping in poison ivy."
Now Cahan did swipe at him, but Rhys ducked out of the way. Not that he had to work hard. There wasn't much heat to it. Cahan smiled at him fondly, green eyes curling up like spring leaves. Rhys wanted to punch him in the mouth.
Cahan stretched out his arms, relishing the warm breeze. "Nothing as beautiful as here," he murmured, almost to himself. "Nothing ever will be."
Rhys said nothing.
"Take care of Ammila and Daidí, all right?" The older brother met the younger's gaze, face solemn. "That's your job now."
"No."
"Yes," he shot back, albeit playfully.
"No," Rhys argued. And then, because he couldn't keep it in any longer: "How dare you do this."
Cahan quirked a brow. "Do what?"
He opened his mouth, then stopped suddenly. He looked away angrily. "Leave without me."
The whippoorwill cried above them.
(it was supposed to be before they left for war (☞゚ヮ゚)☞)

and starling is my children’s lit book that is enjoyable to write!
-
Cat checked Mary’s shin guards, elbow guards, and tapped on her helmet.
“You good, Mary?”
“I think so.”
“Oh! I almost forgot.” She stuck a mouth guard in her mouth. “Just in case you fall and break your teeth.”
“Fanks,” came the muffled sound around the mouth guard.
“I think you’re ready,” said Cat, surveying her work. She tilted her head. “Are you excited?”
“Sort of,” said Mary, struggling with not falling over. The rollerblades lurched and she gave a shriek. “Only I don’t know how to start. Or stop.”
“You’ll find out,” Cat told her. “You always do. It’s like riding a bike!”
“I’m not very good at that,” admitted Mary.
“Oh, psh,” Cat waved her doubts away. “You’ll be great in no time! Just don’t be afraid and,” she stepped back, arms wide, “Go!”
Neither girl moved.
“Go, Mary.”
“I’m trying.” Mary wobbled forward a bit. “The rollerblades are heavy.”

You: The characters ending up married with kids is boring!
Me, an intellectual: Marriage itself is another adventure, not to mention the challenges of raising a child and struggling with past damage and trying not to have that effect the child. Not to mention the possibilities of new stories coming from the children when they grow up and start their own adventures.

Oc questions! Disclaimer i don't know any of your oc's. If your OC was fruit what kind would they be? What animal? What would they do with a free afternoon? A free evening? What is their most irrational fear? What meme encapsulates them best? (You may answer all or some or none of these.) Have fun!
I'll answer for Cahan and Priya!
Cahan would be a kiwi: small, flavorful, makes people's tongues sting. Priya would be an apple: down to earth, classic, and well beloved.
Cahan would be a fox! Clever, a survivalist, red-haired... Priya, I think, would be some kind of Labrador.
With a free afternoon, Cahan would hang out with friends or family, maybe go for a hike. Priya would go pick herbs or make herbal remedies, or she'd hang out with friends and family.
With a free evening, Cahan would work on wood carving and lounging, while Priya would want to tell and hear stories.
Most irrational fear...hm. All of Cahan's are pretty rational XD Priya, I think, would Really Hate the idea of potentially waking up with a spider on her face. Has it ever happened? No. Could it? maybe.
I can't think of any memes, so I'm tagging @starwarmth, @ofsaltandsmoke, and @atlantic-riona to help me think of some.
