COVID-19 Reading Log, pt. 4
The saga continues!
21. Dangerous Spirits by Shawn Smallman. This book is about the wendigo (referred to as “windigo” throughout—apparently that spelling is more common in Canada). It collects a large number of stories about the wendigo, both from First Nations peoples and from Euro-Canadian sources. The theses of the book include the idea that the wendigo as traditionally envisaged by various Algonquian peoples was often times a threat to the family—it often breaks up marriages, pits children against their parents and can sometimes be nullified via marrying it or by cooperation between family members. It also discusses how the wendigo has changed in the modern era, both by being adopted by Euro-American authors as an embodiment of the dangers of the wilderness, and by modern First Nations authors as a symbol of the consumptive nature of capitalism and industrialism. To quote Ojibwa scholar Basil Johnston, “…modern Weendigoes wear elegant clothes and comport themselves with an air of cultured and dignified respectability.” Highly recommended.
22. Mrs. Wakeman vs. the Antichrist by Robert Damon Schneck. This book gets points for what it is not. Unlike Schneck’s previous book (first published as The President’s Vampire and reissued as The Bye-Bye Man and Other Stories), a third of its length is not taken up by a story treatment for a screenplay poorly disguised as genuine folklore (that would be the titular Bye-Bye Man). The book is a combination of true crime, paranormal and general Ripley’s Believe It or Not! styled weirdness. The best chapters are those that actually do some folkloric analysis instead of just telling the tale. An example being “Bigfoot’s Gold: The Secrets of Ape Canyon”, which posits that the 1924 Ape Canyon proto-Bigfoot has more in common with 19th century stories about using magic to hunt treasure than it does with the cryptozoological literature.
23. Death in Yellowstone: Second Edition by Lee H. Whittlesey. A book I’ve been meaning to get my hands on for a long time—I ordered it when the quarantine started along with some cleaning supplies. The topic is divided up by subject; the first half involves deaths by natural phenomena (such as animal attacks, hot springs and hypothermia), and the second half involves human-caused deaths. Unsurprisingly, many of those latter stories date back to the early days of the park, when it was the first national park in a remote frontier. The book is very well researched, and the author clearly has done a lot of work in sorting through newspapers, army reports, etc. I do wish it had a map of the park, though—I’m a neophyte to Yellowstone, and there are a lot of geographic features rattled off by name in the book.
24. The Art of the B-Movie Poster! edited by Adam Newell. This is a big, glossy coffee table book of advertising art for exploitation movies. It’s sorted by genre—action, science fiction, horror, sex films, etc. Each chapter has a short opening essay about a few posters in particular, and there’s a paragraph of text every few pages. A lot of the text is devoted to talking about how deceptive some of the posters are compared to the contents of their films. Funnily enough, the book falls for at least one: the poster for The Day the Earth Froze appears in a section on alien invasion movies. As any Mystery Science Theater 3000 fan knows, The Day the Earth Froze is the deceptive American retiling of a Finnish fantasy movie, Sampo.
25. The Tree by Colin Tudge. It’s been too long since I’ve read any biology. The Tree is sorted by phylogeny, and the author has a deep appreciation for phylogeny and cladistics—a lengthy chapter is devoted to it in the front part of the book, and it’s one of the better general audience explanations of the subject I’ve read. The book is from 2005, so I don’t know how up to date his phylogeny actually is. The authorial voice is deeply British. And deeply anti-capitalist.

Crawler sighting 169
"The Wetlands Experience
About five years ago me and my older sister went to a nature park, a wetlands so to speak. Of course we went at night so we could skate board around cause you aren't allowed too. But you know, a 14 year old trying to look cool in front of her 24 year old sister. Well we went just around as the sun was setting.
For a little bit we got lost since the park was so huge and condensed with a thick woods. We were trying to find the bridge, a 20ft or so bridge so we can hang out just above the rushing river. By the time we got there the sun was hardly visible over the mountains. I looked around after drinking my water and here is where the creepy stuff happened.
As I looked at the other side of the bridge I saw a tall skinny figure. I first shrugged it off like it was a person, maybe a ranger of the park. But then it got on all fours and walked away. I didn't say anything at first, mainly because I thought it was maybe a bear. I looked back at my sister as we chatted about boys and along many other things. Then I looked back at the end of the bridge...
My sister did too and we both saw the figure this time. At this point I was totally freaked out, mind you it's still not dark out the sky was purple and orange so it wasn't like we were seeing things like when your mind pictures figures in the dark. No.. It was right there and getting closer.
I told my sister to get the hell out of there. Her going first off the bride and down the hill. I went second... And as I turned to look at the bridge again it was 5ft in front of me on all fours once again. It stood there as me and my sister skated off and this isn't even the end.
I told my sister to head to the main building since there is cameras and lots of light. We skateboarder for what seemed like hours, every minute seemed to last eternity. As we finally get to the main building we finally stopped ridding our boards. Out of breath and scared we both looked around. By this time, it was pitch black outside. We made a mad dash to the car taking a path we have never seen before but it was outside the park which made us feel safer.
After we got to my sister's Jeep we both got in, hearts racing and scared out of our minds. And when we tried to leave the gate was locked. Meaning we couldn't leave since there was only one way in and out of the park. We got even more scared. We tried everything to get out. We even thought about just leaving the car behind and walking the 2 hours home. But we drove onto the sidewalk and got out of the park.
To this day I won't go back to those wetlands ever again. Even in daylight. Whatever that thing was I never want to see it again. I can't stop thinking about it... And I'm almost 19. You can think this is just a story but it really did happen. Me and my sister don't even talk about it to this day. Something changed between us, I could feel it after that day.
An update: Sorry that it took a year, but life happens. I wanted to answer some of the comments.
On what it looked like, for some reason I remember getting tunnel vison. It was all black, I couldn't make out anything besides the fact it was tall and skinny like it hadn't been fed in weeks even months. At some point I remember thinking it was just a coyote seeing as those are very commen. I didn't want to believe anything else. I just had to call it something and move on. Even my sister can't say what it looked like, she even thought is was a ghost. I've been thinking it over and over going from skin walker, to windigo, to crawler and I've been stumped. And for all I know it could've even been my mind playing tricks on me, since it was almost dark. But again my sister saw it too. It's something I honestly hope to never go through or see again even if it was our eyes playing tricks on us."

Shortly after I got into IT (2017) I had the idea to make an Until Dawn au because I LOVE that game and I thought it’d work really well so today I finally started working on the rough plans, here’s how the prologue will go (under a read more because wow this is long, there’s more about the rest of the fic at the end)
~~~~~
-it starts out in December 2008, Bill's family planned on renting out a cabin on a Canadian ski hill for Christmas holidays and in order to make him happy his parents talked with the other losers' parents and they all split the bill to send all their kids up for two weeks of fun in the biggest lodge house available
-and it is HUGE and grand and secluded away from the smaller cabins closer to the ski lodge/hills, so much so that they need a lift to get back and forth and Richie holds onto a nervous and panicking Eddie the entire way up
-so they all go up and decide to have Christmas together and mostly the parents go off and have fun and leave the kids to play on the mountain when they're not skiing because too young, and they all take turns watching over Georgie, it's a lot of fun
-Bill and Georgie are used to the cold because they go every year and everyone else is either underdressed (Richie) or overdressed (Eddie), so the first day there is filled with snowball fights and hot chocolate by the fire when Eddie starts to yell that he's definitely catching a cold
-there's tons of board games and video games to play provided by the owners and when they're not outside they're crowded around the TV, unless Bill's parents are out, then they're totally playing hide and seek because there's so many places to hide
-one particularly snowy day they're all forced to stay inside and when they become too bored with watching the same Christmas movie over and over they all gather in the living room with pizza and a mountain of snacks, and Ben and Mike gather around the old dusty books on the bottom shelf of the old bookcase, and everyone but Bev notices how Ben keeps looking up at her
-Richie jumps on one of the two loveseats with Eddie to bother him as he plays on Bill's DS, but eventually they get comfortable enough where Richie is just sideways over Eddie and the arm of the chair and Eddie's still playing while he watches with a blush on his face
-Bill and Bev and Georgie are working on one of the 1000 piece puzzles on the large coffee table and like Ben, Bill keeps sneaking glances at her that she sneaks back and they're both blushing
-no one notices when Stan's eyes glance up over his bird book to look at Bill
-Christmas day is AMAZING and everyone feels so loved and happy and it's literal Perfection
-Bill gets Georgie gets a new sled and he wants to ride it CONSTANTLY but Bill spends a little too much time outside leading up to New Years and has to go to bed early because he's feeling sick
-all the losers decide to stay in after Bill heads upstairs and have a game tournament to celebrate the countdown and Georgie thinks that's boring because while he's offered a seat he'd rather play outside
-the parents say they're going out for a new year's party and tell them all to keep a good eye on Georgie and they promise but he ends up slipping away to get Bill to come outside with him. Bill refuses, and he goes outside by himself
-it's dark by this point and he ends up going a little too far, falls off the sled, and loses it in the trees
-feeling bad because his parents (especially Bill) are gunna be so mad, he pulls out his emergencies-only Nokia flip phone to search the area, and it's cold and dark and the snow is coming down heavier now as he goes deeper in
-he stops when he reaches what appears to be a burrow and he sees the sled marks leading into it and he just starts sobbing because that sled is fuckin GONE son
-suddenly he sees two eyes staring at him and at first he thinks it's some kind of animal and he gets ready to book it but a voice comes out and he stops because what the hell is this person trapped did they need help?
-and of course it's Pennywise and IT shows Georgie that IT found his sled and Georgie asks if he's stuck and if he should get his dad and IT says no, he lives down there in the mines, and Georgie gets curious and asks about the mines
-they're all underneath the mountain, like a great big spider web hidden in the snow, and Georgie feels uneasy and asks again why he lives down there
-and Pennywise just stares at him and says that his circus was travelling to the ski lodge when they fell in, and now they all live down there, the whole circus
-and suddenly Georgie can smell it drifting up from the burrow, and he feels a warm summer's breeze and instantly recalls all his Derry Fair memories
-and then it's gone and he's definitely uneasy and says that he'd better get back home to Bill, he must be worried about him
-Pennywise asks who Bill is and Georgie says his brother without thinking, because talking about Bill makes him feel less afraid, and Pennywise says that he should invite all his friends to the circus, it's always waiting for new visitors
-Georgie just says no one would believe him if he said there was a circus under the mountain
-so Pennywise offers him a balloon as proof, and it floats up out of the burrow, not at all affected by the wind or the cold, and when Georgie reaches for it Pennywise lets it go and it floats up and up until it gets caught in a high branch
-Pennywise apologizes, it's so cold his hands are going numb, and IT asks if Georgie wants a new one
-Georgie says no, and Pennywise offers the sled again, holding it up for him to see, and Georgie knows it's his, he can see where he and Bill wrote S.S. GEORGIE on the side
-so Georgie goes to reach for it before saying maybe he'd get it tomorrow, it was getting late and he wasn't supposed to take things from strangers, and a look of SOMETHING flashes across IT's face before IT formally introduces ITself as Pennywise, and introduces Georgie for him, and ITs desperation to get him to stay was very apparent, and while he can't deny they aren't strangers he still wants to leave, so he plans on grabbing the sled as fast as possible in the hopes that IT's hands are as numb as IT said
-Pennywise holds out the sled and he reaches for it, but every time he's about to grab it it moves further back and he has to get down further until it's getting hard to see through his phone's weak light
-he grabs hold and Pennywise grabs him, and Georgie's screams echo over the mountain as his arm is torn off
-the cold numbs the burning wound and he kicks off from the burrow to get up, dropping his phone in the process, but IT grabs his ankle and drags him inside, leaving a bloody trail that's quickly covered up by the heavily falling snow
-no one notices that Georgie is gone until they call him for the countdown and when he doesn't come they search the house and find one of the side doors slightly ajar with covered footprints leading into the darkness
~~~~~
So that’s all I got written down so far, I’ve got a ton of ideas for this fic, trying to find a nice blend of both IT and UD at the moment. The prologue takes place at the end of 2008 so the present will be ten years later in 2018, when Bill decides to get everyone back together to stay at the lodge to try and fight away the bad memories and rebuild his fractured friendships, seeing as most of them separated after highschool ended to go to different colleges.
Main ship is going to be eventual stenbrough, but there’s also going to be reddie (naturally) and benverly with hints of billverly (current relationship but both know it’s ending), and I might delve into Ben/Mike (ship name???) because I had never thought of that ship before and it is amazing, but benverly will be endgame.
Also because this will take place at a ski lodge mountain and not just the Denbroughs owning the whole mountain like the Washingtons in the game, there will also be the Bowers gang either working there or also visiting, if they work there then they’ll be Canadian so the Losers won’t know how awful they are until they go back when they’re 23-24.
There won’t be any windigos, just Pennywise living in the mines, and so far I’m debating on how much death will be involved between canon deaths, letting all the Losers live, just killing the Bowers gang, etc, as well as sexual content for when they return, like when relationships flare up when they’re all reunited at the lodge, considering they’re all adults now, either way there is going to at least be some making out between being scared, and it will also take place over a week or two instead of one night.
Any feedback on what anyone would like to see from this au for the final fic would be greatly appreciated and when I start writing it I’ll post the chapters here and on AO3 ^^
#my fics#Staniel's planiels#that is such a stupid tag for my posts but I figure it's original and it also makes me laugh#IT 2017#Until Dawn au

Mistmane: Am I Chinese or am I Japanese? I remember the circular gate I passed through when I came back from magic school, which is more Chinese, yet the guards that gave me the letter announcing that Sable Spirit had been crowned empress looked more Japanese.
I am actually Chinese, but the Japanese and the Koreans took many elements of their cultures from mine. They still dress, celebrate and write in the ways I grew up with thousands of years ago. In that sense, I represent the essential beauty of all East Asians.
Now here I was, seeing one of my descendants return to a place that made the flower in her heart blossom and grow in many directions. A dark flower, twisted and torn in its petals by the hatred she felt earlier in her life, but a flower of the grandest design.
Parcly Taxel: Alicorns are susceptible to jet lag too – even Celestia found herself disoriented after flying to São Paulo and trying to raise the sun 24 hours after the last instance. The difference between Canterlot and Japan is only one hour, so I wasn't going to get much of it, but nevertheless I've established that the best way to mitigate its effects is to travel at night, which is what I did.
Spindle: Thunderstorms hung above our heads as we began our ascent. Winter was not yet in full swing, and my fellow windigos were celebrating their vastly improved artificial intelligence. We were through the current within seconds, and a dreamy cruise through the night began.
Parcly: I closed my eyes, and before me was a calm ocean punctured by random rocks, creeping beneath the stars. Air traffic was much reduced now, and my horn emitted a faint glow from the fire of my subconscious, so I could sleep-fly without worry of colliding with anything.
Lucid dreaming eventually distorts working memory and motor function, so I primed my mind to wake up in Hong Kong at one in the morning, where I could reorient myself towards my actual landing in Japan.
Spindle: A quiet sunrise greeted us after three more hours. The outside air temperature was just above freezing, my movements alone crystallising small snowflakes in a flowing mist.
Having skipped the night in the phase she was in, Parcly wisped herself away on a series of trains from Kansai Airport to Kinosaki, one of the many onsen towns scattered throughout Japan, with me as the outside carrier. Other ponies stared at me as a yuki-onna, but raised no qualms.
Parcly: By the station entrance were little ponds of hot water fitting like horseshoes, which I relaxed in for a while before having tempura don for lunch. After checking in at the house of a pony named Morizuya, I realised why cut-outs of crabs were mingling with the onsen façades…
Rarity: Yes, darling, it's crab season. I got a giant one to fight!
Spindle: What?
Rarity: Later, spirit horse. Let Parcly continue.
Parcly: Morizuya introduced me to his mother, an elderly mare in a kimono. She gave a short tea session for us, in which the subject was bracketed by flavourful red bean cakes. I sat still, Spindle fed on my emotions, I fainted after winging nearly 5000 kilometres non-stop.
Two visits were in order: the little onsen just outside our room and the slightly farther-away Goshonoyu (御所の湯) with full traditional dress (kimono and geta) on. I recalled with mild amusement the last time when my body mistified, so instead I pushed my ropey genie tail down, leaving the flask high and dry. Still I felt crisp under my coat upon leaving for dinner.
Rarity: Here the giant crab appears, fished from the sea to the north. With precision chops and crushing magic I tore it into pieces, which we then all ate! I got my revenge… served with sashimi, beef and a pie.

CS:GO. Forecast for the match Windigo — Nemiga. LOOT.BET (24.04.19)
New Post has been published on https://betting-tips.site/csgo-forecast-for-the-match-windigo-nemiga-loot-bet-24-04-19-2/
CS:GO. Forecast for the match Windigo — Nemiga. LOOT.BET (24.04.19)
LOOT.BET Season 2, Playoff, 1/4
Windigo vs Gaming. Nemiga Gaming best of 3
The beginning of the match: 24.04.19 at 13:55 GMT
The second season of LOOT.BET will bring together the Windigo and Nemiga. Whether Belarusians to avenge his recent defeat? The forecast used the line and the odds the bookmaker arcanebet.
Windigo Gaming
Despite the poor statistics, the Windigo team is in very good shape. They gave battle the world’s strongest teams, such as G2, fnatic and Na’vi, and in each battle the team had a good chance to triumph. Yes, this time did not work, but I’m sure the team believe in their capabilities and next time we will see absolutely other Windigo.
The upcoming battle will put quite a few questions before the Bulgarian quintet, as Nemiga comes into the fight being clear underdogs which have practically no chance of taking even a single card. Windigo surpass Belarus in almost every aspect, including the map pool, so the team will have many variants of map-peak to predict that pretty hard.
Nemiga Gaming
After the fiasco on WePlay! Forge of Masters, where the team managed to take only two games from seven, Belarusians could little back, defeating LDLC and Virtus.pro that has not increased their confidence. The composition is still fluid and capable as a very competitive game with favorites and complete failure in the match against equal or weaker opponents. In addition to General uncertainty, Nemiga greatly subsided on the personal skill, of course, immediately affected the results.
In the upcoming battle, the team has virtually no chance, but we know what surprises can spring CS:GO. I think Nemiga choose Inferno or Nuke, where you can collect a large number of rounds and put the match to the third map, where the variance may help underdogs.
Statistics
Windigo Gaming. One win in five matches.
Nemiga Gaming. Two defeats and three wins.
The account of personal meetings — 2-0 in favor of the Bulgarians.
Forecast
I think we will see a good match, in which there is a “dark horse” in the form of Nemiga. If they want, then the battle will be tight and go the distance. However, the last five matches of the Belarusian speak about the problems within the team, so I’m inclined to think that Windigo quite easily sweep opponents. My prediction — winning team Windigo 2-0 from the bookmaker arcanebet.

5 Best Boating Destinations to Explore
Open water, the wind in your hair, the sun on your face, and the feeling of freedom. These are just a few of the reasons that boating is a favorite pastime for so many. With over 95,000 miles of coastline and thousands of lakes, the United States boasts some of the best boating destinations for mariners seeking their next great adventure. From sailing to fishing, historic cities to secluded parks, here are five of our absolute favorite boating destinations.
Newport, Rhode Island
Michael Kagdis Newport has been a longtime favorite destination for mariners. Its rich history, beautiful scenery, and sailing culture make it an ideal spot for amateur and experienced boaters alike. Rent a boat or dock space from one of the city’s huge array of marinas and set sail in whatever direction strikes your fancy, from Newport Harbor and Brenton Cove on the west side to Easton Bay and Sheep Point Cove to the east. While you’re in the area, soak in the quintessential New England experience by indulging in fresh seafood from dozens of local restaurants. When you’re ready to dock and hop back on land for a bit, you can visit Newport’s Historic District to enjoy incredible colonial architecture or head to one of many nearby beaches to soak up the sun. Be sure not to miss out on Newport’s famous Cliff Walk, where you can birdwatch and stop to study historic mansions as you hike through 3.5 miles of incredible wildflowers and breathtaking New England shoreline. Time your visit just right (July 14-15 for 2018), and you can hit up the annual Newport Kite Festival, a free event where enthusiasts gather to show off colorful and quirky flying contraptions. For anglers, there are tons of sites for fresh- and saltwater fishing, and even shellfishing for oysters and the infamous New England quahog — but don’t forget to get your license first! All in all, Newport makes for an incredibly well-rounded vacation that will satiate your need for open water, fresh seafood, and historic sightseeing.
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Dubbed “The Venice of America,” Fort Lauderdale is the epitome of a boat-centric city. In addition to being dotted with over 300 miles of waterways, the city houses over 40,000 yachts and 100 marinas, gets 3000 hours of sunshine per year, and hosts one of the world’s largest boat shows, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (October 31 through November 4 for 2018). Once a major hot-spot for spring-breaking college students, Fort Lauderdale is now fully aimed at resort-style living. Dock at local restaurants to enjoy some fresh catch or spend the day fishing and bring your own in to be cooked. Ample waterways are a parasailer’s paradise, or you can kick back and just enjoy the stunning views from your captain’s chair. Coral reefs make for incredible snorkeling and open water diving, and the nearby Everglades provide a huge stomping ground for new adventures. Visit the 4,000 square mile wetlands to take airboat tours, go fishing, kayak, hike trails, and experience a truly unique ecosystem swarming with wildlife from turtles and alligators to manatees and dolphins. When you’re in a landlubber mood, disembark and head to Fort Lauderdale’s bustling downtown, where you’ll find beaches, dozens of golf courses, the Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District, and popular Las Olas Boulevard, which is filled with shops, restaurants, and unique architecture. Or you can park yourself at the Thunderbird Drive-in, the world’s largest such theater with 14 screens. Fort Lauderdale is also a great destination for vacationers who like to day-trip as it’s within ferrying distance of both the Bahamas and Miami.
San Juan Islands, Washington
An hour and a half north of Seattle lie the San Juan Islands, a gorgeous archipelago of 172 named islands that make for an amazing boating destination if you’re looking to take things slow. The islands have a temperate year-round climate and less rain than Seattle, so it’s easy to schedule a trip where you can enjoy the scenery without Mother Nature interrupting your plans. Rent your vessel from one of the nearby marinas or hop on the Washington State Ferry from Anacortes. Head out on the water and enjoy stunning views of mountains and sea at the same time — and get some whale-watching in. The islands are one of the best places to spot Orcas in the wild, so much so that one of the islands is named Orcas Island. Whales aren’t the only natural sights you can look forward to. The islands are also home to the greatest concentration of bald eagles in the contiguous United States, along with plentiful other species like harbor seals, river otters, black-tailed deer, and herons. Take to the land for even more adventure by taking a mellow, leisurely drive over the Orcas Island Scenic Byway or biking through incredible preserved woodlands on the San Juan Island Scenic Byway. Round out your trip with kayaking, hiking, local farm visits, museums, horseback rides, arcades, and more. The San Juan Islands’ protected status, along with hundreds of harbors and docks, make them a perfect boating destination for travelers looking for a serene getaway that still offers plenty of entertainment.
Isle Royale National Park, Michigan
Isle Royal National Park/Facebook If seclusion is what you’re after, head to Isle Royale National Park on Michigan’s Lake Superior. The park is only accessible by boat or seaplane, so it’s tough to beat if you’re looking for pure solitude. Once there, you’ll find yourself in a tranquil world of history and nature. This national park is unlike any other. With 165 miles of trails peppered with sites for backpackers to pitch their tents and wildlife sightings that can include moose, foxes, and beavers, it’s the passionate camper’s wildest dream. For the best and fullest experience of this wild paradise, plan your visit for August – pesky insects start to die down in late July just as wild blueberries begin to ripen. Once you obtain a camping permit, you can spend your nights under the stars by docking or dropping anchor on the park’s perimeter. While you can’t water ski or jet surf at the park, there’s plenty of kayaking and fishing to be had. For a touch of civilization, visit one of the park’s two developed areas: Windigo and Rock Harbor. Windigo, which is situated at the southwest end, is largely a camper’s respite, with a small store, showers, cabins, and campsites. Rock Harbor, while still quiet and secluded, functions as the park’s “downtown” area. It’s located in the northeast and has a restaurant, store, boat dock, and the Rock Harbor Lodge. While you’re out exploring, you can visit a historic copper mine or check out the lighthouse quietly perched atop Passage Island. Lake Superior waters can be rough at certain times of the year, as evidenced by Isle Royale’s over 25 shipwreck sites you can now dive to explore, so if you’re not an experienced boater, you may prefer to hire a charter or take a ferry instead. For tranquil scenery, unique boating, and rugged camping, there’s nothing quite like Isle Royale National Park. Plan properly, though — the park closes from November to mid-April due to extreme weather.
Lake Havasu, Arizona
A mere 24 miles away from the high-rolling hustle of the Las Vegas strip is Lake Havasu, right on the border between Arizona and California. The lake is a reservoir formed by the Hoover Dam and is all about no-holds-barred fun. There are no size or speed restrictions, so you’re free to do everything from jet skiing to leisurely canoe rides. Havasu is connected to 60 miles of continuous waterways, including the Colorado River itself, so there’s no shortage of places to point your bow. Beaches, coves, and the beautiful Copper Canyon are all easily accessible for boaters hoping to explore and sightsee. The lake is also spanned by London Bridge, a popular attraction that once spanned the River Thames and was sold to Lake Havasu City by the City of London in 1831 (a reassembly was completed in 1971). Teeming with large carp, smallmouth bass, striper, redear sunfish, and more, the Lake is a popular destination for anglers. It’s no wonder, as several have reeled in massive hauls over the years, including a world record-setting sunfish in 2014 (surpassing the previous title holder, which was also caught on Lake Havasu). Rent a houseboat and you’ll never have to leave the water — there’s even a local restaurant that will deliver pizza dockside by skateboard. If you do decide to hit the land, there’s plenty of additional fun to be had in Lake Havasu City, where you can hike, mountain bike, take hot air balloon tours, go off-roading, visit local shops and restaurants, stay at a resort, or go on a lighthouse tour (with over 24, the city has more lighthouses than any other in the country). With ample opportunities for watersports, sightseeing, outdoor adventuring, and fishing, Lake Havasu is an ideal boating destination if you’re traveling with family or a larger group. Whenever you’re planning a boat trip, it’s important to do some research. If you want to fish, camp, or dock your boat, you may need special licenses or reservations to ensure everything goes smoothly. Weather conditions can impact the ability to boat on some bodies of water at certain times of the year. Read the full article

Really excited about the “Night of the Living Dead with Windigo” event on Saturday, October 28 2017 presented by Plain Jane Events. The sights and sounds and energy should be outstanding! Pick Me Up Calgary is pleased to be a part of this event. We provide designated driving services for this event so Call Us Anytime (24/7) at (403) 399-4616. We are also looking forward to seeing fellow Calgarians and surrounding area residents in their costumes at this event and around #yyc Most importantly, remember not to Drink and Drive this weekend, or anytime for that matter! There are always taxis, rideshare programs and designated driving services available for your service. The night does not need to end on a ghoulish note. #plainjaneevents #pickmeup #pickmeupdesignateddrivers #pickmeupcalgary #villagebrewery (at Village Brewery)
