[writing prompt - lyric mash up] I saw you in a photograph - I don't know who I am anymore. (Can be used together, or in different spots and not every word has to be used.)

I saw you in a photograph. It was a picture of you - of us - and the wind was blowing the hair away from your face. You weren't exactly smiling but you were happy. I don’t remember where it was taken or at what point in the year but I do remember you were happy. You were always happy. Always positive, always the optimist. You were my optimism and I always told you that. I would tell you and you would smile and kiss me on the cheek and whisper an “I know,” or “as you, mine.” And I would turn my head and kiss you on the lips and feel your smile. 

Your smile is what I miss the most.

When you left, you took that smile with you and away from me. With that smile went the optimism. There wasn't much left of me after that. I would try to find your smile in the things you liked. Birds in the early morning or the smell as it rained. I would take walks outside and watch the people walk by with their smiles and try to pretend it was yours.

It never was.

I tried to stay happy but without you, I wasn't me.

Without that smile, I don’t know who I am anymore.
