Summary -  Dean wakes up to his average life with Sam, but it's a little too good to be true

A/N -  I wrote this as part of my Wincest Big Bang for 2018, The Ones We Leave Behind (Ao3 link) I Wincested season 2... with an alt ending, but it was running a little long so I cut out Dean's Djinn world scene.

Dean jerked to consciousness then relaxed as he felt warm, strong arms wrapped around him, and his baby brother softly snoring into his neck. His mind raced, he couldn’t remember going to bed, or getting back to the motel for that matter. He tried to think of the last thing he could remember clearly, but he couldn’t picture anything after he had left to check out that warehouse for the Djinn. Maybe he had been knocked out, it wouldn’t be the first time.

Dean let himself settle back into Sammy as his breathing regulated. He was surprised that his sudden tenseness hadn’t woken him up, they had both always been light sleepers, but he didn’t think too much more of it as he drifted off back to sleep. Dean had a fitful night’s sleep, his dreams filled with a girl who looked like she was having the life drained out of her.

The following morning Dean woke to an empty bed, the sheets tangled around his legs, and immediately jumped out of bed as the morning light showed that he was not back at the motel like he had thought. He was in a bedroom, a shared bedroom; both his and Sammy’s things scattered across a dresser and mirror set on the opposite wall from the king size bed that he was now standing beside. He quickly took in his surroundings and made his way to the closet, hoping to find some clothes since he was in nothing but his boxer briefs.

After dressing he heard noises from somewhere downstairs in the assumed house that he was in. As he made his way down the short hallway and started to descend the stairwell he became more and more uneasy. There were pictures of him and Sammy on all the walls, and even more inexplicable there were pictures of the two of them with their mom, recent pictures. Dean’s mind was in a haze, how hard had he hit his head? Am I in a coma, or dead?

The sound and smell of bacon frying lead him to the kitchen, where his baby brother was cooking breakfast in his underwear. The sight stopped him dead in his tracks as he openly gawked at Sammy swaying to some unheard tune, flipping bacon in the pan while chewing on a piece that was half hanging out of his mouth. Dean couldn’t help the laugh that fell from his lips at the absurdity of Sammy dancing while cooking what looked like an entire pound of bacon. He had never seen his baby brother eat more than two pieces of bacon with his breakfast, and that was a rarity.

Sammy turned at the sudden noise behind him with a grin on his face, “Mornin’ De. You didn’t seem to sleep well last night, so I figured I’d let you sleep in. I should have known the smell of bacon would have woken you up.”

It was then that Dean noticed the lightness in Sammy’s words, the carefree way he turned back to his cooking, the heartbreaking ease with which he was smiling as he worked. This was not his Sammy, something was definitely wrong. Dean needed to figure out exactly what was going on, and quick; whatever it was couldn’t be good.

“De?” Sammy was looking at him, concern evident in his eyes, just like the last time he had seen him; the real him.

“Yeah, uh, sorry. Long night.” Dean tried not to back away as this happy Sammy came around the kitchen island with a plate full of bacon and eggs, just the way he liked them.

“I noticed, you haven’t slept like that since Dad died. Was it the same nightmare?” Sam noticed Dean’s hesitation and moved past him to set his plate on the table next to two glasses of orange juice, motioning for him to join him.

“Yeah, probably.” He wasn’t really sure what he should say until he figured out what was going on.

Dean walked over and joined his brother at the ornate dining room table, grinning as he noticed that Sam’s plate had more eggs and fruit than bacon, while his was mostly bacon with a couple of eggs. He figured that no matter what was going on, he would need his strength, so he ate his breakfast quickly, only noticing Sammy staring at him when he went to down his orange juice.

“What?”

“Nothing, I’ve just never seen you eat so fast. Are you in that much of a hurry to get to Mom’s?”

Dean swallowed hard, “Mom’s?”

Sam chuckled, that left dimple making its second appearance that morning, “Yeah, Mom’s; it’s Sunday. Dean are you feeling alright?” He reached for his forehead and Dean grabbed his wrist to stop him from touching him. Sam got a hurt look on his face, but took his hand back.

“I’m fine Sammy, just forgot what day it was.” He tried to flash him a reassuring smile, but Sam didn’t seem to buy it.

Dean sat awkwardly at the table, looking out the window at the strange neighborhood, while Sammy finished his breakfast. When he was finished he grabbed the plates and glasses and went to take them to the dishwasher.

“Are you sure you’re feeling alright?” Sam looked both amused and worried, if that was even possible.

“Yeah, why? Since you cooked, I figured I’d clean.” Dean tried to brush off the feeling that he was doing everything wrong and that something terrible was going to happen because of it.

“That’s just it- you know what? I’ll take it, I shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth, right?” Sam stood and walked toward the stairs, “I’m going to take a shower…” he trailed off, lifting his eyebrows and grinning when Dean turned to look at him.

Dean’s cock was half hard before he tossed the plates haphazardly into the dishwasher and made his way back upstairs, right on Sam’s heels. Even if this wasn’t his Sammy, at least this was the same. He had his shirts off and his pants undone by the time they made it to the bedroom. Sam turned and caught him with his lips as he struggled to get his pants off of his legs. They were laughing into each other’s mouths before they pulled apart so that Dean could finish getting undressed.

Sammy was in the bathroom getting the water up to temperature and Dean took the moment to take a closer look around the room. There were more pictures of the two of them, some from when they were younger on a lake, teenagers on a road trip, Sammy in a cap and gown with Dean smiling proudly at his side. Photographic evidence of a happy childhood and a happy life lived. Dean couldn’t help but smile, even as his uneasiness grew. At least some version of Sammy got to grow up happy and live a normal life.

“You coming, De?”

Dean cleared his throat, “Yeah, Sammy, be right there.”

Their shared shower was huge, obviously designed so that the both of them could shower together comfortably without too much thought of having to avoid rogue elbows; it was strange. What was stranger still was how Sammy had grabbed Dean’s hand and led it from his hip to his ass; that was generally Dean’s move. He didn’t argue though, Dean would give Sam, any Sam, whatever he wanted.

Sam came quickly with Dean’s fingers massaging his prostate and other hand gripped tight around his flushed cock. Dean had to make himself focus and not lose his head as this Sam took him into his mouth like they’d been doing this for years. He knew exactly how to swirl his tongue just under the head, just how hard to suck and when, and that flick of his tongue on his over sensitive head was enough to make Dean’s knees give out.

They dressed in comfortable silence, needlessly brushing up against one another while reaching for articles of clothing. Sam wore khakis with a baby blue sweater over a simple black and white button up shirt. Dean had found a dark pair of jeans, a black tee shirt, and a solid maroon flannel that looked like one that he already had, it made him feel more comfortable.

Dean was in shock as he raced to the abandoned warehouse. He knew everything was too good to be true. Him and Sammy living happily together, his mom being alive, his mom, not Sam’s, because Sam was not his brother. Apparently, they had been inseparable since middle school, fell in love in high school, and had bought their house and moved in together after college, which they had both attended. One thing that hadn’t changed was that their dad was still dead, a stroke in his sleep after his softball team had won the Championship. It was just too much.

Sam was sitting beside him, having refused to let him drive off “hysterically,” alone. Dean didn’t like bringing this Sam with him on a hunt, unsure of how entangled this fantasy Sam was with his Sam. Fuckin Djinn dream world. Dean had hit up the local university to see what he could find out about Djinn and their “wish fulfillment” tendencies. The best he was able to figure out was that the Djinn had attacked him and put him in some sort of dream world where his wish that his mom had never died was granted. Of course, since their mom never died, their dad had never gotten into hunting, and being that him and Sammy weren’t even brothers meant that everyone they had saved had gone unsaved in this world. All of those people, all of their hard work and sacrifice had never happened; all those lives just lost.

Dean had a moment where he thought that he could just let it go. If he didn’t save himself, if he let himself accept this dream world, he could live a happy, long life with Sammy, he could make his mother proud. In the end he knew that he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he did that; hell, he was likely half dead already in the real world.

The dream world put up a fight in the end, all the people in that life coming forward, trying to get him to stay. It was Sam that had almost won him over, but it was also Sam who had made up his mind that he had to wake himself up. Dean knew there was a wives-tale that if you die in your sleep that your mind will wake you up, otherwise you would die for real. Dean decided that he was dead either way, so it was worth the risk; he shoved the silver knife into his body, just under the ribs.

1) How many works do you have on AO3?

82, although that's not even close to my actual total. There's a bunch on LJ that have never been transferred (all shorter works)

2) What’s your total AO3 word count?

1,780,805 (over 2mil on LJ)

3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

Mostly three, plus a couple dips into a few other pools. X-Men Comic Book fandom, Buffy & Angel fandom (they kinda count as one since it's the same universe), and Supernatural & SPN RPF. Dips have included Dragon Age, Firefly, a tiny bit of TVD, a Sons of Anarchy crossover.

4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

This is tough if I go by numbering. Homework Verse has the most kudos scattered across all parts, but Stranger Than Fiction has the most as a single story. Anyway...

Homework Verse (J2 RPF, 200k+ words) - My very first RPF fic, Supernatural or otherwise. Two of my online fandom friends basically TOLD me I was going to write Teacher/Student J2, and I kept protesting that I drew the line at RPF. They didn't care. 200k later, here we are. This story was a game changer for me; it made me fandom famous. I still love those boys with my whole heart, and they still talk to me sometimes.

Stranger Than Fiction (Sam/Dean, 50644 words) - This story idea took root immediately following the episode The Monster at the End of This Book. I quit the Big Bang I'd already begun writing for that year (which was Who Watches Over Me, which I finished and posted for BB the following year) to write this story. It just took hold hold of me and took over. I wrote it in 6 weeks and it was easily the most fun I ever had writing anything--I cackled like a madwoman most of the time.

Who Watches Over Me (J2 RPF, 96591 words) - This story was, at the time, the toughest thing I'd ever written. Little did I know that would become the norm and not the exception, as I began to write more complex stories. It was by far the longest story I had ever posted all at once in its entirety (rather than chapter by chapter) and I had no idea if people would like it. Fortunately a lot of people did.

Like Staring Into the Sun (Sam/Dean, 23243 words) - Ah, my very first hardcore Wincest fic. I remember writing the first chapter of the story (meant to be a one shot honestly), and just sitting there, at 5am, being terrified to post it. It was twisted, dark and intense and SO porny I was scared people might think I was weird. There wasn't anything like it out there at the time. As it turns out, people loved it so much I ended up writing eight more parts.

Like a Fish Out of Water (Sam/Dean, 59498 words) - I have a lot of love for this story. It didn't come to me easily, but it was fun to write. I remember smiling a lot and just having a nice, warm cozy feeling the whole time. I had no idea if anyone was interested in reading this many words of what amounted to a dramedy curtain fic

Of course there are other stories that I feel deserve love, but I can't argue with these.

5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I do. And by that, I mean I try. I don't always succeed in answering them all, but I answer as many as I have time and energy for. Life is busy and there is writing to do as well. I read every comment I get (multiple times) and I feel guilty for all the ones I don't answer, because they mean SO MUCH TO ME. Like you took time to leave this beautiful, well thought out comment, or even a keysmash, or a heart, in response to something I wrote. That means the world.

I WISH there was a reaction function for comments on Ao3, so I could heart things, or laugh in response. Replying with emojis without words feels weird. So yeah, a reaction function would be amazing. But in the meantime, I do my best.

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Hmm. Probably A Touch of Evil. Interestingly, it's also a HAPPY ending, so there you go lol. It's a serial killer love story with a happy ending that comes at an exorbitant price.

8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I'm not sure why the OG post skips from 6 to 8 lol . So, yes, I have written a few minors crossovers. Mostly Faith in the SPN verse with the boys, nothing too crazy, because she fits right in. But for long stories, I have written all of ONE crossover. It's Dean Winchester/Jax Teller (SPN / Sons of Anarchy). My crossovers so far have tended to make sense to crossover, so I don't think any of them are crazy.

9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Yes. I got some hate on a Buffy/Xander fic back in the day. I got really excited and had fun with it. Like yeah, now I'm SOMEBODY! You're no one til someone hates you lol Most of that was people who were haters of the ship, or were like, gross, they're like brother and sister (they weren't, they were FRIENDS). I've gotten nasty comments here and there on some of my SPN fic. My favorite was the person who accused me of having a "Top Dean Agenda". I STILL laugh about that one. I don't respond to that crap.

10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Have you MET ME? LOL If I ever post a story without smut just put me out to pasture, because I'm done. And all kinds. Het, Gay, PWP, Plotty porn, mostly super kinky but some vanilla (but intense). I used to challenge myself regularly to see if I could up my kink game--like hmm, but could I write THIS? I haven't written really kinky sex in a long time, though. Might be time to do that.

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Several times. Who Watches Over me was stolen by someone and converted to One Direction Lourry fic. Literally just did a name change. Someone else stole a bunch of my one shots and passed them off as their own. I know there were a couple other instances but I only vaguely remember. I never got too deep into it, most of the time the people who discovered the theft already told everyone else too, and the plagiarist had been hammered by them so hard that I didn't have to step in before they took it down.

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes. I used to get requests so often that I just posted my usual response in my profile for people to read instead of replying. Definitely into Russian and Chinese for most of the stories listed with most kudos above.

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

A few times on one shot fics. SO MUCH FUN. I love co-writing with people.

14) What’s your all time favorite ship?

Sam/Dean. Easily. Hands down. I just love their unique relationship, bond and love so much.

15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Well I finally finished A Touch of Evil after posting 3 chapters in 2009 and never touching it again until 2017. And I never thought I'd finish that. So never say never, I say. That said, there's the third and final part of my X-Men comic book epic that remains unfinished by about five (shorter) chapters, and it HAUNTS ME. But I don't think I'll ever finish it.

16) What are your writing strengths?

NOW we get to the hard questions. I'm really good at dialogue, bouncing banter back and forth between characters, and I have a sense for how long a scene should be. I just KNOW when it's going on too long, even if there's more that needs to be said, and I try to tighten it up in that case.

A friend of mine once told me "Porn is my gift". I don't write as much of it as I used to, but yeah, I shine in that area.

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

So I always reach a point after writing so many words in an unpublished fic where I'm like, I have no idea if this is even any good/makes sense/hangs together etc. Beyond that, I've been writing for so long that I've had so much practice that I've strengthened a lot of my weaknesses. I'm sure I still have some, but I don't FEEL them like I used to anymore. That said, there are things I simply will not write. Like historical pieces. Because I would research the fuck out of every detail trying to get it perfect and then I would still doubt myself completely.

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I mostly try to avoid it, because there's no way I would ever get the language correct. I usually write it in English and then explain that they're saying it in another language. Like, "What are you doing?" the man asks, speaking in Chinese. Then reiterate in the continuing dialogue in various ways that they're speaking in Chinese.

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

X-Men Comic Book fandom. I was reading a lot of Remy/Rogue fic back in 1996-1997, and one day I was like, you know what? This person did a pretty good job on this story. It's not great, but it's pretty good, and if they can have the guts to put it out there, then I can do it, too.

20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

This is a tough question. I don't love all my children equally, but I love them all a lot in different ways lol

Remembering favorite is different than which one I think is BEST... Homework Verse is probably my favorite. I was learning so much about writing then, I was really growing, and discovering, and pushing my limits. Those characters lived and breathed in me, I swear they spoke through me from some alternate universe. They feel so REAL to me. There's so much of what I've learned in life in that story, like really, big, life changing ideas and understandings that happened to me that I put into that story. There's so much of me in that story, and yet there's so much of THEM, too. It's their story, but it's also mine. It's raw and not entirely perfect and it feels like home to me.

@wincestismyheart thank you for tagging me in this. I love these kinds of things. Sorry it's taken me over a month to do it myself! Ha!

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

I have 27 works currently. I've deleted a few over the years.

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

207,118. That's actually crazy to think about.

3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

Predominately, Supernatural. But I do write for Skam and its Remakes as well (Skam France and Druck currently).

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

1) The First Time I Saw Your Face (263 Kudos, 4k, wincest) - I posted this one in 2019 crazily enough, so it's semi new and its also the only fic I have on ao3 that I attempted no promotion of. So how it ended up with the most kudos, is a mystery to me. This fic was a WIP for so fucking long and 2019 was a good year writing wise for me, so I was able to finish it up and post it. It's actually very endearing to my heart, because it's an over-compassing story in short glimmers of their love story from Sam's birth until Stanford!Era / Pilot.

2) Two Hearts, One Home (230 Kudos, 5k, evak - skam) - The first published fic for these two and it's literally just fluffy and porn. For some reason when I write them, I turn into a porn writing champion, which is a strange turn for me--as I usually struggle with it! Written in 2019.

3) Close Your Eyes & Make A Wish (203 Kudos, 7k, Datteo - Druck) - The first Druck fic I ever posted and it's a recanting of one of their episodes. I love Matteo and David so fucking much and they will always live in my heart. So happy I wrote this piece. Also written in 2019. (see what I mean about it being a good writing year?)

4) To Rise, We Must Fall (197 Kudos, 11k, Wincest) This was written for the 2014 reverse big bang. It was my first dip into challenges and I'm happy it exists because it gave me courage to attempt other challenges. I def don't think it's the strongest thing I've ever written, but I love it because it's Boy King related.

5) Treble Clef Confessions (191 Kudos, 1k, Elu - Skam Fr) - The first and only thing I ever wrote for Skam France. I don't anticipate writing anything in the future for them, but I do love this short little piece that reimagines a scene. This was also written in 2019.

5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Oh yes, I absolutely do. I am so grateful for any comments I get, because unfortunately they are few and far between. I wish my readers left more tbh, because they just fuel my desire to keep writing. So I definitely love to take care of those that do, just to also encourage them to do the same for others.

6. What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

There's two that I think of, but I'll go with the one that has had more responses from the fandom. Everything's For You was written in my earlier tumblr days for a tumblr challenge. The prompt was basically to imagine: “Dean says time is different in hell, but what if it’s not? What if Dean really spent 40 years in hell before Cas put him back to 2008? Write what 40 years without Dean may have looked like for Sam.” And well, things get a little sad.

7. What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

I feel like I try to make sure all of my fics end on a happy note, just because I like to make the angst so severe throughout the fic. Lol. But the Skam piece I am currently working on and isn't posted yet, is def going to be the happiest. So look out for, A Weekend To Remember.

8. Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you've written?

I haven't written one yet, not to say I never would.

9. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I wouldn't say hate, but I have had people challenge the way I write and say it's too flowery. People also try to correct the way I write Brother in Wincest fics with a capital B, but that's my creative freedom as a writer. They're not just brothers. They're Brothers. <3

10. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I do write it, but it really depends on the fandom I guess. When I write for Sam and Dean, I feel like the smut I write is few and far between. Not that it's hard to write, or that I don't enjoy it--but I enjoy writing them without it. Sometimes I feel like it means just as much without it, because that's just them. But then I put my Skam glasses on and I'm suddenly on a smut roll.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge. I hope that never happens; I wouldn't handle that very well.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but I would be open to it under the right circumstances.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nothing posted, but maybe between friends--yes.

14. What's your all time favorite ship?

Def, Wincest. I don't care how far away from SPN I get, I walk by a flower stand and see sunflowers and with always instantly be reminded of Sam. I'll see wanderer things and think of Sam. I'll see leather candles and think of Dean. I'll see an impala on the road and think of the boys on the road in the middle of the night. I will always see them everywhere and they will always be a part of me.

15. What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

Probably the 900 J2 fics I've started. I want to finish one, but I usually get distracted and start something else.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think for me, it is dependent on how well I know a character...because if I know them like the backs of my hands, I can really get into the vein of them and write them well. The worst feeling for me is when I can't feel a characters voice as I write.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Probably that I get distracted entirely too easily. An idea will come up and I'll be all about it, write 10k of it and then think of something else. And then it'll sit in my drafts as a WIP for years, staring at me with pleading eyes and I just try my best to not think about the 'what-ifs'.

18. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I try to stay away from it if I can, because to me it is distracting.

19. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Unpublished Nsync fanfic for sure. LMAO. But second fandom would be Supernatural.

20. What's your favorite fic you've written?

There's so many things I want to say, but in this moment, I can't help but think of: A Brother's Lament (A Slow Death). It was written for the spnj2bigbang for 2016 and it's probably the longest fic I've written, being that it's 46k. It is a love story to Dean's slow and maddening deterioration after Sam's death in Swan Song. Of how he tries to live the life he promised, but finds that he physically cannot do it. It's sad and violent, dark and upsetting, but I put my whole heart into it and it's not even the most well received thing I've written--but I fucking love it so much.

Sam woke up and gasped, grabbing his brother.  Dean startled awake and held Sam as he closed his eyes, fighting back tears.

Dean shuddered, thinking about how what Sam had to go through. He watched as Sam grimaced and fought through the pain as he tried to sit up. Dean was in awe of what his brother was able to endure. He helped Sam to sit upright against the headboard.

“Is that better?” Dean asked, sitting beside him and taking Sam’s hand.

Sam let out a deep, shaky breath. He gripped Dean’s hand tighter.

“Yeah. Thank you.” He looked at his brother with sad, trusting eyes.

“Being with you and just touching you, like this, makes me feel worlds better. Like it seriously takes my pain away. I’m not just feeling safer, I am in less pain when you’re here with me.”

Dean smiled so big and choked back a small sob.

“I do that?” Dean asked, but Sam just blushed.

From the kitchen, the boys heard Bobby banging around, trying to make breakfast quietly.

“It’s ok, Bobby, we’re up.” Sam called out, not taking his eyes off of Dean.

Bobby practically ran into the room, coffee cups in each hand. He gave one to Sam and the other to Dean.

“You sleep ok Sam?” Sam nearly had to tear his eyes away from Dean, but he turned to Bobby and smiled.

“Yes, thank you. Feeling much better.” He brought the cup to his lips and blew across the top to cool it off. He missed coffee.

”What do you think you are up for today?” Bobby asked.

“I’d like to try walking around. I do have the boot on my foot now, so I could give it a try. Dean, you’d be ok helping me?”

Dean nodded. “Of course! You know how much I want you to get better.”

Bobby couldn’t help the tears that started forming.

“Bobby, what’s up, you ok?” Dean asked, placing his hand on Bobby’s shoulder. Bobby wiped the tears away and cleared his throat.

“Yeah. Yeah I am. I’m just so very grateful that you’re alive Sam. I’m just so happy you are here and you’re going to be ok.”

Sam smiled. “Me too, Bobby.”

Bobby stood up. “Alright. I’m gonna go make breakfast for all of us. You guys hang out here, I’ll be back in a little bit. Rest now, cause I think you’re going to be even more sore and tired later, ok?’

And with that, Bobby returned to the kitchen.

Sam turned back to Dean, taking his hand again.

“What was I saying?”

“Something about feeling better when I touch you?”

“Yeah. Yeah I do. It feels good. It’s really hard to explain, ok? But ok, here’s the thing. When you touch me, it’s like I feel your energy wash over me, starting from wherever you touch me. Before, it was my shoulders, now, it’s my hand. And not only does my pain sort of melt away, but I feel really good. Like…really good.” Sam blushed, but didn’t look away.

Dean was having a hard time keeping his emotions in check. Here was his little brother, cut up, broken, bruised…and telling him Dean was actually healing him. He had no words.

“Can I…can I rest my head on your shoulder, Dean?”

“Yeah,” Dean breathed. He shifted sideways so Sam could lean back and rest his head. Dean switched hands so that he was holding Sam’s with his left hand, and stroking his hair with his right.

Sam sighed. “That’s so nice Dean. I really like that.”

Dean really liked that too.

He couldn’t wait until his brother got better.

Bobby brought them breakfast, but left them alone. Both of them enjoyed bacon and eggs with a biscuit. Sam enjoyed it so much, Dean had to comment.

“You look totally blissed out, dude.”

Sam nodded. “I miss real food.”

They finished their plates and set them beside the bed. Dean started to pull Sam against his chest, but paused, his hands on his shirt hem. He looked into Sam’s eyes. And saw nothing but trust. “Is it alright if I…” Sam nodded. Without looking away, Dean pulled off his shirt, and lay back against the pillows. Sam blushed, but lay his head against Dean’s bare chest. The sigh that came out of his mouth made Dean shiver.

“You like that, Sammy?”

Sam’s breath caught in his throat. “Yeah. Dean, i…wow. I feel so much better. Your skin, it’s…it feels so…right.”

Dean smiled and pulled his brother as close as he could get.

“Let’s rest Sam. I’ve got you. You’re gonna be ok. Let me heal you.”

Sam closed his eyes and let Dean’s warmth seep into his very soul. It wasn’t long before Sam succumbed to sleep once again.

Three hours later, Sam woke up with a start. “Ruby has Jo!” he cried. Dean immediately sat up and grabbed Sam’s arm. “Baby, you ok? What’s going on? How do you know this?”

“I just…I just know. I could hear Ruby in my head.” Dean just nodded. “Ok, Sam. Ok. We’ll take care of it.”

Sam’s eyes were huge. “No, Dean you don’t understand. Ruby HAS JO. She’s gonna do the same to her as she did to me…Jo’s strong, but she’s not that – Dean, please, we have to save her!” Sam’s pleas turned into sobs as tears rolled down his cheeks. “She’s going to die, Dean. I have to save her!”

“Alright Sam, alright. We’ll go get Jo. We’ll find her, ok?  I’m gonna get Bobby.”

Sam was trembling. The tears wouldn’t stop. Dean knew something had to be done.

Castiel Milton is a fallen angel in a world where the supernatural live in the open. As exciting as it sounds on paper, his life is a series of one monotonous moment after another; he writes speeches for big names with even bigger egos, has a cat that only sleeps in the sink no matter what he does to make her stop, and in his free time he looks for his sister who disappeared when he was a kid. When he witnesses the murder of a federal judge, his simple little life implodes. Nothing is as it once was and if he stops to catch his breath, he’s dead.

You you have any suggestions for starting a new bang? There are things I would love to read and encourage others to write, but there are no bangs or challenges for it!

A “short” guide to running a bang

I don’twant to discourage you, but there is a lot you need to think aboutother than just running it.

Am Ireally sure it doesn’t already exist?

Firstup, I would be absolutely sure that:

Nothingalready exists, and I would do that by checking a blog like @thebigbangblogproject

And ifsomething does already exist, but it’s no longer running, I wouldtry and find out who the previous mods were, message them andpolitely ask if you can take over running the bang.

Keep inmind that bangs also exist on platforms outside Tumblr, mainlyLiveJournal and Dreamwidth.

Willthe fandom be able to accommodate this bang?

Whenyou’re absolutely sure a bang doesn’t already exist…

Askyourself:

Arethere enough artists and writers to accommodate this bang in myfandom?

Ideallyyou have artists and writers matched 1:1, but often you’ll have aratio that’s more like 1:2 or 1:3 – as in 1 artist for every 3writers. When it gets to those levels of having to rely on artists tocreate that many works, a bang can become unmanageable and you couldstress everyone out.

Unfortunately,you’ll need to play this aspect by ear. Things that will affectthis include:

Popularityof any ships this bang might be focused on

Popularityof any themes you might give this bang

Popularityof any characters this bang might be focused on

Postingrequirements (how many words per fanfic, how many pieces of art perfanfic)

Can thefandom calendar cope?

In theSupernatural fandom, for instance, there are a great many bangsalready running, often at the same time.

Using asite like The Big Bang Blog, you should be able to tell whena lot of bangs tend to run.

Themain ones you don’t want to run at the same time as is the WincestBig Bang and the DeanCas Big Bang. By same time, I mean havingposting dates as the same as these two bangs.

Okay,everything looks good

If youhave had positive answers to my previous questions, then there are lotof things you can do to ensure things go smoothly.

Themain things I would do immediately are:

Find atleast one co-mod in a different timezone

Registerthe Tumblr URL you want to use

Registera Google account for the bang (to run emails through Gmail, and signups through Google Forms and Sheets)

Registeran AO3 collection for the bang

Draft aschedule that the bang will run to

Considerhosting somewhere for writers and/or artists to chat (like a TwitterDM group or a Discord server)

Afterthat you need to at least:

Decideon fanfic and art requirements. How many words will a mini bang beversus a big bang, or will you only have a minimum word count of10,000 words; how many pieces of art per size of bang will you ask ofartists?

Decideon some rules. Such as: are there certain things not allowed tofeature in the bang (like underage sexual relationships; particularships); do participants need to be aged 18 and over?

Decideon which platforms art and fanfics should be posted on. AO3 shouldreally be your location for the stories themselves, as it enables agood user experience; art could be on Tumblr, DeviantArt, AO3…

Writedown all of the above into a rules and FAQ document you can put onyour bang site, along with a schedule.

Whenyou’ve got your schedule and rules/FAQ sorted, you’re pretty muchready to go.

Ifyou’re unsure how rules or schedules should look, take a look atthe ones on other bangs.

Theones written by the mods for the @deancasbigbang and @deancastropefest are very good examples (they have mods in common).

But donot outright copy someone else’s rules or schedule – if you wantto use similar language or dates, ask the mods of that bang if it isokay to do so, and acknowledge them on your versions.

Runningclaims

One ofthe biggest things to organize is matching writers with artists. Thisis claims.

It’sgood practice to create a single point for all artists to viewsummaries of bang fics that they can ask to make art for.

Thiscould be a Google Presentation with anonymously numbered entries including fic length,ships, warning tags and story summaries in it. Or it could be apassword protected Tumblr site with the same information.

Makethis information available several days before letting artistsclaim bangs.

It’squite easy to run this part through a new Google Form document andassigning bangs on a first come, first served basis.

If youhave stories left over after everyone has claimed, you can always askartists if they want to claim any more. And if not all fics areclaimed you could post the claims publicly and invite artists whoaren’t already signed up, to claim bangs.

Postingbang entries

Givewriters and artists the chance to tell you dates they can’t poston.

Beclear where you want writers and artists to post their creations, andwhether you need them to provide a masterpost and what thatmasterpost should contain.

Most existing bangs have a similar masterpost format, so check in with one of them for ideas on what to do.

1.   What/who first got you into Supernatural?

My best friend ! I actually got an original story that looked a lot like the early seasons (and evolved since) and when I let her read my notes, she told me about supernatural in those words “This is a story about two brothers hunting monsters but then there are demons and angels and the little brother is a demon or something anyway it’s complicated and there is a lot of drama”. That was in 2013 and I never found a more accurate description. We started actually watching it two years later. (we bridge watched the 3 first seasons between engineering school entrance exams and engineering school entrance exams results). Since we put a point on only watching it together and we live in different towns, we’re around the beginning of season 12 now.    

2.   What was the clincher that made you keep watching the show?

Well, first of all I watched it with my friend so doing something together is always more fun. I loved the characters (I liked Dean more in the beginning) and I will say that it was only after watching Swan song that I really really want on full “I love this show” mode. I started reading fanfictions and making theories.  

3.   Which more rare character do you wish appeared more often in episodes?

So. Many. I would have liked to see more Charlie, more Garth, I also really like every episodes with Donna in it (So I’m super exited for wayward sisters). I would have liked to see more about Lisa too. She was interesting and strong and I feel like she would have really helped Dean in terms of character development if she had become a recurrent character. I know we would see more Elieen in the future so I’m kinda impatient but I also know she dies so not so much.    

4.   If you could bring one character back to life permanently, who would you choose?

Charlie. Her death was so quick and really unemotional at this point. She deserved better and why couldn’t she stay as a recurring character? She could have been just severely hurt and the story wouldn’t have changed except she would have been mentioned a few more time and maybe came back for one or two cool episodes? I feel like this is wasted character potential.  

5. What is your favorite thing about Dean Winchester? Sam? Cas?

Dean – His protectiveness toward his friends and family, his outgoing attitude and the fact that he’s trying to make everyone comfortable.

Sam –  His kind heart and the fact that he can go from giant teddy bear to highly skilled killing machine.

Castiel – His attempts to be human and to fit in. The fact that he question everything and the development he want trough thanks to that.

5.   Favorite rarepair?

Not as a couple but I would have loved seeing Charlie and Kevin interact with each other. I would have liked to see more Garth and Bobby interactions too (not as a couple of course). How did they met each other, did they hunt together at some point, like did Bobby teach Garth the ropes?

6.   Which character do you admire most?

Ellen and Jody (basically the moms (I know too little about Mary to have an opinion yet)) the two of them have a very different way to deal with their hunter child, but the two of them deserve absolute respect.  

7.   Top 3 favorite quotes?

“I’ve been following you around all my life. I mean, I’ve been looking up for you since when I was four Dean! Studying you trying to be just like my big brother. So, yeah, I know you. Better than anyone else in the entire world.” -Sam, Fresh blood. Most. Relatable. Quote. Ever.

“I’m sitting in a laundromat, reading about myself, sitting in a laundromat, reading about myself. My head hurts” – Dean, The monster at the End of This Book I just find it fun.

“I adopted two boys and they grew up great. They grew up heroes. So you can go to hell!” – Bobby, Death’s Door. There. Take my heart and crush it under a combine harvester*. Didn’t need that shit anyway.

*Yes, I did look up how to say that in English just to describe that feeling.

9. Ever written fanfiction? What about?

I did. I got an A3O account here (self-promoting? What’s self promoting? Who’s self promoting? Not me.) This is five short gen (trough you can see some as Sastiel or Destiel I guess?) one shots and I’m currently writing a hunt fic.    

10. Favorite fic?

Since I can’t just classify the fic I’ve read to say witch one is my favorite I’ll just say that I really love hunt fics and fics were Dean is comforting Sam either for a canon or non-canon event.  

11. Favorite season?

You still want me to classify? I’ll go with 5 or 8 I guess. I also liked season 11.

12. Favorite popular ship?

Please no more “Favorite…” questions… I don’t have ships as in “I totally want to see this characters together” I read fics with mostly all ships except wincest and I appreciate it, but I wouldn’t go as far as saying I have a favorite.  

13. If you could add to or change one thing that happened in the show, what would you do?

See question 4. Either that or save Kevin and saving us a lot of season 9 angst.

14. You’re transported into the show and you get to be one villain, dead or alive. Who do you choose?

Amara probably, she’s cool. I don’t really know.

15. Top 5 favorite episodes?

1 – 5.22 Swan Song Like I said, the episode that made me like the show

2 – 5.08 Changing Channels It was fun.

3 – 11.4 Baby Because wow

4 – 8.21 Pac man fever Because we’ve got to know more about Charlie and we’re seeing a protective side of Dean.

5 – 10.05 Fan fiction This is a fun and totally motivational episode at the same time.

16. What’s one plot twist you did NOT see coming?

In the risk of seeming naïve, Ruby’s betrayal. Of course, I knew she had her own interests, but I didn’t thought she was lying to Sam.

17. What character are you most similar to?

Not as in similar but the one I can the most relate to is probably Sam. I grew up with a four years older sister I love and admire a lot, and the circumstances are different (and way less dramatic) of course but the “us against the world” feeling is there. Like I said, I can relate to his speech in Fresh blood, and in some extent to the one in sacrifice (“who are you gonna turn to next time instead of me?”) but I’m sure not as strong nor as persistent as Sam.    

18. Have you ever cosplayed? If so, as who?

I’ve never cosplayed. If I had to choose a character maybe Eve?

19. What episode scared the crap out of you?

1.08 Bugs Not as in scared scared but most as in herk no. I fear cockroach and earwigs (don’t laugh) so…  

20. What character do you hate with a passion?

I don’t hate anyone with passion, but I didn’t like Dick Roman. He wasn’t as charismatic as the other villains.

21. You have the power to choose how the show ends. How do you end it?

Oh my god no, don’t let me do that everybody will die I like bad endings.

22. Favorite alternate version of a character? (i.e. Casifer, demon! dean, gadreel in sam, souless sam, ect.)

I liked Lucifer!Sam. He was really charismatic and cold and it was a total 180° turn to usual Sam which made me feel really uncomfortable as that was probably the goal.

23. Who is one character you love that other people have mixed feelings about/ don’t really care much about?

Ok. Time to say it and going against the whole fandom. I like Metatron. I like his character and his evolution. I love him in Don’t call me Shurley. I just. I like Metatron. There. I said it.

24. Funniest episode?

5.09 Changing Channels and we’ve also got a bang at this end when the hilarity dies with Gabe’s heartbreaking speech.

25. Episode that left you emotionally dead inside?

So. Many. I’ll settle for 2.16 Roadkill. That moment when you realize and yeah. Time to use that combine harvester word I learned today to describe the state of my heart.

Wincestmas Day 2: All that sexual tension (Part 1/3)

Hi! Glad you liked yesterday! So - this fic was in response to your likes for late-season Wincest and pining boys, but also because I had a look at your A03 and saw your fic where older Sam and Dean meet their younger counterparts. So hopefully you’ll like this. Unfortunately, though, it got out of control long (its finished up just under 4k) so I am going to send it in three parts over the next three days (assuming you like it). Here’s part 1!

There’s a bang and the motel door flies open. Dean’s on his feet immediately, scrambling for his gun even as he assesses the threat.

Sam tumbles into the room, literally ass-over-tea-kettle, long legs flying over his head as he rolls to a stop at Dean’s feet. Dean’s hand shivers as he trains the gun on the open doorway, waiting to see what’s wrong; but nothing follows Sam into the room. There’s just the quiet echoing of an empty motel parking lot and the whuffing breaths coming from his little brother.

When Dean finally looks down, his rapidly pounding heart freezes. Sam looks up at him out of eyes big in a rounded face, hidden under shaggy bangs that Dean hasn’t seen in over fifteen years. His skinny chest is heaving, long twig legs sprawling out from his body in clothes that are swimming on his slender frame. Sam had only gone out to get their morning coffee, and he’s come back like this.

“What the fuck, Sammy?” Dean demands.

 ***

“Rowena,” is Sam’s terse answer when he gets his breath back, in a voice far higher than Dean’s accustomed to.

“Rowena is the witch we’ve been following?”

“Yeah. And she saw me from across the road, I guess, and well…” Sam tails off, gesturing down at himself.

“Well.” Dean echoes. He can’t quite process what’s happened.

Sam unfolds himself, standing up to his full height. Which, Dean notices with a swoop of his stomach, is a little less than Dean himself.

“How old are you meant to be, anyway?”

Sam frowns, nose wrinkling, and shoves his bangs out of his eyes. He comes to stand in front of Dean, close enough that his warm, sweet breath brushes against Dean’s cheek. He’s just smaller, just enough that he has to tip his eyes up to look at Dean.  “Um… about 18, I guess?”

“How’d you know?”

“I got taller than you just after-” he pauses, ducking his head.

Just after I left for Stanford, Dean fills in mentally. They still don’t talk about it. Dean can still remember the shock, that night in Sam’s Stanford apartment, when Sam had stood up and towered over him for the first time.

“Ok.” He takes a deep, deep breath, trying to right his thoughts. “We got two choices: try and go after Rowena, or try and fix this ourselves.”

“She’ll be long gone,” Sam suggests. “Now that she knows we’re onto her.”

Dean hums, sorting through everything they know about Rowena. “I’m not so sure,” he says slowly, thinking aloud. “I think she’ll wanna stick around and laugh at us.”

The flash of annoyance across Sam’s face is at once so familiar and utterly disconcerting. Now, that look tends to be directed at Rowena, at Crowley, at their current case; back when Sam had this body, it had been directed at everything as teenage Sam had vented his frustrations. Their Dad and the life they led had been a frequent recipient of Sam’s disgust, but Dean hadn’t avoided it either, and it’s an unpleasant reminder of their teenage arguments.

“Yeah, you’re right. Guess we better try find her.”

That’s harder than Dean could have imagined. Not just because Rowena is tricky and cunning -  if she wants to stay hidden, she’ll find a way - but because Sam doesn’t look like an FBI agent anymore. Or like any of their other typical disguises. He doesn’t even look like a credible intern. They have to beat a hasty retreat from the police station when the local sheriff starts asking too many questions, and the bouncer won’t even let Sam into bar where Rowena had last been seen.

“Just go back to the motel, Sammy,” Dean says, gritting his teeth. Today has been harder on him than he’s willing to admit; Sam’s outward appearance a constant reminder of feelings he’d ruthlessly squashed down when Sam had run away.

“No, I’m going to help,” Sam insists, jaw set. His skinny wrists poke out from under the cuffs of his shirt, but his trousers are pooled around his ankles where his legs aren’t quite as long as they should be. The shirt billows around his chest - he’d pulled the suit jacket off as soon as he could, unable to function properly with the longer sleeves - and every time he moves, Dean catches a glimpse of smooth, hairless chest. “I’ve spent more time with her than you, I know how she thinks.”

“There’s nothing you can do,” Dean insists, trying to make his argument sound believable even to himself, when all he actually wants is to remove the temptation that is Sam from his sight for a little while. “I can investigate easier by myself. Then I’ll come back and tell you everything, and you can use your great wisdom and knowledge to predict what she’ll do next.”

Sam scowls at the sarcasm in his voice. “Fine.” He spins on his heel and stomps off, the dramatic exit only barely ruined by his little stumble as he narrowly avoids a lamppost. Sam at eighteen had been all new angles, long legs and clumsiness, and that’s clearly true of Sam at thirty-four in his old body.  

Dean breathes freely for the first time since Sam had re-appeared in their motel room that morning. Taking a moment, he leans back against the wall outside the bar, closing his eyes.

Images of Sam flash through his brain - images of Sam today overlaid with images of Sam when he really was eighteen, when he’d taken to wearing little shorts and loose t-shirts that hung off his shoulders. When he’d taken to stealing Dean’s old t-shirts, squeezing new muscle into old material; and when he’d often spent long hours in the shower, high noises spilling out that Dean had tried so hard not to hear.

There’s a million reasons they still don’t talk about Stanford; and one of them is the reason Dean had let Sam go. His sanity had been hanging by a thread when Sam had revealed his plan; he’d barely been able to think at times for how much he’d wanted his little brother and how guilty he’d felt. He’d often head out to bars, ready to drink himself into forgetfulness; but come home without touching a drop, suddenly terrified that he’d lose his inhibitions with his sobriety.

Sam had wanted - expected - Dean to come with him to Stanford. That had been painfully apparent in the triumphant way he’d revealed his plans to their father, vicious satisfaction evident in his voice as he’d expected to announce his victory in their years-long push-pull fight over Dean’s affection, Dean’s loyalty. But Dean had steeled himself and turned Sam down; insisting that hunting was his life, that there were people to save. Sam had turned doe eyes swimming with tears on him, but Dean had stood firm. Their father’s joy at winning had led to the savage fight that saw Sam banished from the family for so many years.

Since then, Dean has managed to restrain his feelings, pushing them to a place where he barely remembered they existed. Winchesters were masters of denial, after all. But now, everything is bubbling to the surface again.

Scrubbing his hand across his eyes, he pushes himself away from the wall and heads into the bar. Time to get back to work, to find Rowena and find a cure - and then he can go back to forgetting he’d ever had inappropriate, dirty thoughts about his little brother.

Dean makes his way back to the motel a couple of hours later, tiredness singing through his body. It’s mental tiredness more than anything - weariness from trying to suppress his feelings all day - and all he wants is a burger, a beer and a quiet night.

Takeaway bag in hand, he nudges the door open with his hip, hoping that Sam isn’t going to kick up a fuss about the unhealthy food. His worries go to shit when the bag crashes to the floor, spilling fries everywhere; the cola pooling across the already-stained floor.

Sam’s stretched out on the bed, face down. He’s completely naked, muscles fluttering as he rolls his hips back to meet the three fingers stretching his ass wide, and his face is buried in the t-shirt Dean was wearing yesterday.

  So yeah, that’s part 1… part 2 coming tomorrow.

Kari’s Favorite Things Challenge

 So get this! Y’all cause I am a weirdo I have been thinking about doing this for months. I did a celebration thingy for 666 so off course I wanted one for 6666 aswell :D

This one is gonna be a challenge and since the number 6666 is wicked cool and sorta a fav thing of mine the prompts are gonna reflect that. There are gonna be 66 prompts (and 66 spots for people to sign up for). There are gonna be 6 different categories amongst those prompts and there will be 6 different characters you can chose from to write for.

Sign ups end when I run out of prompts. No more will be added. Only one person for each prompt but no limit on characters. 

The Rules - READ CAREFULLY:

1. You have to send me an ask telling me your pairing (and if the pairing is two of the characters on the list please let me know which one you wanna focus on). The ask also has to say which prompt you choose (state the NUMBER not just the prompt. Send a backup prompt in case the one you want is taken. IMs, reblogs and replies will be ignore

2. I am fine with most pairings but please no dealistar, wincest (of any kind) or samifer. I wanna read all these fics and I can’t stomach those pairings. No hate if you ship it I just don’t. No male readers or OMCs are allowed either. Again no offense I just don’t read them.

3. You can write fluff, angst smut -  if you write smut please no non-con, A/B/O or daddy/mommy kinks. Again no shaming. I just can’t bring myself to read those.

4. Word min: 500 and word max: 6000 words.

5. It can be the start of a series or a one shot. Please don’t make it the middle part of a series - I don’t have time to catch up on 66 series for this one.

6. The fic is due June 15th. If you have to drop out or need an extension that is cool - just let me know a week ahead of time. People signing up and not completing the challenge without getting back to me that they need to drop out will be banned from my future challenges.

7. All are allowed to sign up, the tags are only for signal boost, but one person can only sign up once.

8. Tag me @thing-you-do-with-that-thing in the A/N and use the # Kari’s favorite things challenge within the first five tags.
