Why Preconstruction is a Top Choice for Condo Buyers in North York
Tumblr media
The condo market in North York is pretty mind-blowing these days. You see high-rise towers, luxury amenities, and prices to match. It's enough to make the most optimistic buyer to invest. That's what makes pre construction condos North York such an attractive option for savvy property buyers in this sizzling Toronto suburb.
Easier and Affordable Buying Experience
The math doesn't lie - you're almost always going to get way more bang for your buck purchasing a pre-construction unit versus resale in North York. By buying during the initial launch and construction phase, you lock in pricing at today's rates. Later on, those values increase once the building is ready.
Take a new launch in the booming Yonge & Sheppard area for example. Pre-construction prices for a 700 sq ft 1-bed might start in the $600s, while similar aged resale units are listing for $700k+. That's potentially six-figure savings just by getting in early! No wonder pre-con North York condos appeal to so many first-time buyers.
You are the First Owner
Buying pre-con means you're the very first person to live in your condo. Literally, everything is freshly built just for you. We're talking new appliances, untouched finishes, the whole nine yards. No sketchy former tenant leftover smells or stains to worry about.
Plus, a bounty of modern amenities come standard in today's pre-construction projects. Developers are really raising the bar for resort-inspired living.
Of course, the customization factor is another major draw. Most pre-con allows you to select your own finishes like flooring, countertops, and cabinets rather than being stuck with the previous owner's taste. Yeah, those upgrades come at a premium, but having a brand new space truly designed to your specifications is priceless for many buyers.
What's the Deal with North York?
Now let's talk about why people are clamoring for those pre construction condos North York specifically. This former suburb has absolutely boomed into a legit Toronto hotspot brimming with world-class amenities, shopping, dining and more.
Areas like Yonge & Sheppard are about as central as it gets. It gives a thriving downtown vibe fueled by new condo developments, office space, retail and subway accessibility. In a couple of decades, places like this will be the new midtown cores of Toronto.
Other neighborhoods like Willowdale provide that perfect balance of urban energy and residential tranquility. You've got lush parks and hiking trails and easy access to major highways without living smack dab downtown.
Value Proposition is a Big Plus
For many smart buyers looking for North York condos, the pros of finding an affordable pre-construction unit in a priority. Especially when you bring in a savvy agent experienced with pre-con contract nuances to advocate for you through the process. The combination of pricing, customization, and shiny new everything is just tough to beat.
One thing's for sure - developers can't hurry in pre construction condos North York fast enough to keep up with ravenous demand. If you're dreaming of owning a home near Toronto, pre-con may just be your golden ticket to the real estate jackpot.

2022 Fanfiction Reading Challenge
September Stats
Tumblr media
Hello everybody! How was your September?! Where I live we have a very very short autumn - so we’re enjoying our brief moment of golden trees and crisp air. Finally got our fence up and our grass is gorgeous. It’s almost too cold for hammocks, but we’re doing our best.
Thank you for being wonderful friends during my NY trip. I got SO many messages and suggestions about where to go and what to eat. I love you all for that. It was a short but amazing trip. I read a lot on the plane - and walked a LOT once we got there (47km in 3 days) - my feet were SO swollen. I saw all the things. So many bridges! It was so fun and I can’t wait until I can get back there. I have several friends in Jersey and I waved at you guys from afar. <3 <3 <3
Tumblr media
Fandom-wise, I’m still working on my Hard (79/87) and Extreme(59/65) challenges at the @fanfic-reading-challenge - I need to read a bunch of “Fandom Event” fics. Which events should I read?  What is your favourite fandom event?
--
Also - as per usual, here are a few recs for the month. If you have any favourite stories (that you loved reading or even that you wrote - in any fandom), please let me know. I’d love to know what you’ve been reading and I never complain about new stories to read.
twenty-one rules by elanor_gamgee (21/21 - Eddie/Chrissy)
Summary: Chrissy needs a fake boyfriend so she can keep her ex away. Eddie needs to admit that he's falling in love with her. (fake dating to friends to lovers au in which absolutely nobody dies!)
Why you should read it: FAKE DATING! And NOBODY DIES!
-
The Fourth Estate by catie56 (24/24 - Fitzwilliam Darcy/Lizzie)
Summary: There are people who believe that romantic connections are the province of fate and destiny, the result of an alignment of constellations and conditions that bring two people together. Others tend to discuss falling in love as the product of rational decisions that acknowledge attraction and compatibility. Some people, however, seem to think these two seemingly-opposite perspectives are really just two sides of the same coin. Sometimes, after all, destiny just requires that two people make a single choice. A modern/AU Pride & Prejudice.
Why you should read it: SUPER funny - and the characterizations are spot on - despite it being a modern AU where Darcy is famous and the paparazzi accidentally catches him standing next to Lizzie and think they’re together. A real delight.
-
The Elusive Elenor Clancy & The Story by @darknessaroundus (Bughead)
Summary: 1. Betty's lived in Willowdale for over a decade. She has a life there, a routine filled with writing, cooking, the twins, and secretly supplementing the income of the Andrews-Brown Organic farm.If only her family didn't want that steady life to change. 2. Five times Jughead was asked about his leg, and one time he told the truth.
Why you should read it: I really really love C’s writing - and this is a really fun series. I really love Betty’s growth and Jughead is adorable. It was a seriosuly delightful reread. Do yourself a favour and indulge tonight!
I hope you enjoy the recs and I hope you all have a wonderful week.❤️

Masterlist
Tumblr media
Ethan and Olivia moved in together 2 months after the end of her residency.
He proposed on their first Christmas spent together, while they were watching "Home Alone" and eating gingerbread cookies.
Ethan had gotten Olivia's family's blessing to propose to her and particularly her beloved sister's Lily.
He chose the ring with the help of Sienna.
The ring is rose gold and has small diamonds and a central aquamarine stone. Olivia once mentioned she loved that stone because it reminded her of Ethan's eyes.
They got married on September 27th in Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, MA. The ceremony and reception were held in the backyard. For the reception though there was a huge gazebo that they used.
The couple wanted to have a simple, elegant but also fun wedding. The guest list was comprised by 85 people. Just the closest friends, colleagues and family.
Everyone helped to plan the wedding, under the coordination of Lily (Liv's sister). The wedding colors were baby blue, navy blue, gold and cream.
The maid of honor was Sienna and the best man was Bryce. They both tearfully accepted and were delighted to be there in that way for them.
Olivia's dress was a bit on the cream/champagne shade, yet not too far from white. Simple A-line, with a detailed rhinestones decorated top showing off her back, shoulders and collarbone.
The shoes were the same ones her mother had worn at her wedding. They served as her something borrowed.
Her hair was styled up to better show off the dress and decorated with the sapphire, diamond and pearl headcomb she inherited from her grandmother Alexandra (more info about the story here). This served as her something blue and old.
Before Olivia had her hair and makeup done, she filmed a little video for Ethan, pouring all her emotions and love mad excitement for the day. When he got it he went to his room for a good 30 minutes and replayed it over and over again. He responded with a quickly written yet touching and beautiful letter he had delivered to Liv through Lily. She ended up needing to redo her makeup.
Liv and Ethan had a first look moment, which naturally was very emotional. Ethan gave her as a gift a set of an aquamarine necklace and earrings, which she also wore on that day as her something new. (more info about the story here)
The ceremony was officiated by an elated Naveen, who made it fun and beautiful.
The rings were simple, also rose gold and with the date and "his" and "hers" engraved for each of them.
Their vows were written by them. There wasn't an eye without tears left.
Their first dance was to "At last" by Etta James.
The reception went off with lots of food, dancing and laughter. The photos and video remain proof of that for years to come.
In the end they had a last dance moment alone, to "All of me " by John Legend.
The Valentine-Ramsey wedding was definitely a memorable one.
(adding the dress photo bc I love it and for you to better see the details)

The Wedding // Mini Wedding Series
Tumblr media
Pairing: Ashton Irwin/Reader
Words: 3303
Author’s Note: IT’S FINALLY HERE GUYS. After so many months the finale of this is here. I’m hoping you guys will enjoy this and I’m sorry that it’s taken me so long to get out. xoxo
Butterflies were soaring around my stomach as I walk into the room I'll be getting ready in. Tears came to my eyes upon seeing my dress hanging up along with the veil.
“I'm getting married tomorrow,” I cry out, hearing the footsteps of my friends come in behind me. I turn to face them, feeling the tears running down my cheeks as a small sob slips past my lips. “I'm marrying my best friend, tomorrow.”
The three of them wrap their arms around me, giving me a group hug as I let out a sobbing laugh. A knock on the door catches our attention as Calum leaned against the door frame, a smile on his lips.
“Sorry to ruin a moment but Ash wanted me to tell you that he loves you and he can't wait to marry you tomorrow,” he tells me and a few tears slide down my cheeks.
I step towards him, wrapping him in a hug as I breathe out a shaky breath. “Tell him I feel the same way,” I whisper and Cal nods his head.
After I pull away from the brunette, he takes a few strides towards Mariah and presses a quick kiss to her lips, telling her that he loves her before making his way back towards Ash’s room.
A blush covers her cheeks as she grins like an idiot, her eyes finally moving back towards us. “You guys are getting married next, right?” I ask, letting out a laugh as did the other girls.
“I hope so,” she chuckles, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “Only time will tell.”
-
I lay in bed, hugging the pillow Ashton's been using. It's been quite a while since I've slept alone and it sucks, but it's a tradition.
“It's really difficult to sleep without you plus the excitement for tomorrow on top of that,” Ash’s voice comes through the phone and I chuckle, nodding my head in agreement.
“Yeah, I can't seem to fall asleep and I'm so close to saying fuck traditions, but it means a lot to my grandmother,” I mumble before nuzzling my face into the pillow.
“I can't wait to see how gorgeous you'll look in your dress,” he mentions and I can't help the smile growing on my lips. “You know I'll probably end up crying tomorrow, right?”
I let out a laugh, tilting my head back. “Oh yeah, but don't worry. I'll be crying with you!” I giggle as a snort comes through his end.
Glancing towards the clock I let out a groan, seeing it's almost midnight. “Everything okay?” Ashton asks and I comb my fingers through my hair.
“It's almost midnight and we need to be up at like eight. I need to go to bed, but I don't know if I'll be able to sleep without you,” I tell him and frown a bit.
“I can stay on the line, maybe sing to you until you fall asleep?” He offers and I can't help but smile widely.
“That sounds fantastic, babe,” I mumble and plugs in my phone so it doesn't die, setting it onto the nightstand. I hug Ashton's pillow, taking a deep breath as his angelic singing voice comes through the phone.
My eyes begin to droop as he gets into the second song. I let out a content hum, always loving the sound of his voice and begin to slowly fade into the darkness of the night.
-
Loud knocks on my door wake me from my slumber. I sit up quickly as my heart pounds against my ribcage. “Jesus,” I mumble and place a hand to my chest, letting out a small sigh. “I'm up, I'm up!” I yell and throws the cover off me, getting out of bed.
I rub the tiredness out of my eyes, getting a shitty sleep without Ashton beside me. I comb my fingers through my hair, taking my phone off the charger and checking it to see if I had any messages.
Morning, baby. I hope you had a better sleep then I did. I can’t wait to see you walking down that aisle towards me. See you in a few hours, my love. x
I smile at the text, biting my lip as I type out a reply. The door to the bedroom creaked open and my grandmother peeked her head in. “Morning, sweetie,” she smiles and steps inside the room. I give her a smile and set my phone down on the bed, hearing the tone the bubbles make when someone’s replying.
“Morning, grams,” I chime and bring her into a hug. “Are the girls up?” I ask and she nods her head.
“Yeah. They have been for a few hours. How’d you sleep?” She questions while sitting down on the edge of the bed.
“Eh. It would’ve been better if Ashton was here,” I laugh and sits beside her. “It’s been a while since I’ve slept alone so it was a bit of an adjustment.”
She nods her head and opens her mouth to speak when Steff knocks on the open door. “Hey, Y/N/N,” she greets with a smile. “You don’t need to shower, do you?” I shake my head no in answer and Steff gives me a thumbs up. “Good. We’re running a bit behind schedule because you slept in. But, I knew you wouldn’t have slept well.”
“You know me so well,” I grin and stand up from the bed, walking towards her to give her a hug. “I’m so glad you guys are here experiencing this with me. I couldn’t ask for better friends.”
“We love you. Now, c’mon. We gotta get to the venue!” She smiles while pulling away from me. I nod my head as the two of them step out of the room. I rush around to gather the things I need, double checking I have everything before heading downstairs.
-
The six of us made it to Willowdale Estate in little over an hour and I can see Luke and Calum walking towards the building, already dressed in their trousers and button up shirts. My heartbeat quickens at how real this is becoming, getting a little emotional again.
“I still can’t believe it’s finally happening,” I mutter to everyone in the car as my mother turns the engine off.
“Trust me… neither can I. My baby girl’s growing up,” mom mentions and I land a hand on her shoulder, squeezing it a bit. “I’m so proud of everything you’ve accomplished.”
I give her a smile, my vision becoming blurry from the tears pooling in my eyes. “I love you, ma,” I whisper and lean forward to press a kiss to her cheek. We pile out of the car, grabbing everything from the trunk before heading inside the building.
Once everything was inside and set out in the medium-sized room, we began to get ready. I slide the marsala colored garter up my left leg, positioning it on my upper thigh. I change into the strapless bra I bought before slipping on the satin robe.
“Alright, babe, let’s get started on your hair,” mom told me and I give her a smile while nodding my head. I move to sit in front of the vanity, still feeling the nerves course through my body. Amy, my mother, begins to run her fingers through my bed head of hair, smoothing it out a little bit before brushing it thoroughly. “Are we keeping it simple?”
“Yeah! I thought we could do like a braid that wraps around the back and then we can tuck the veil behind it?” I wonder out loud and my mother nods her head.
“Yeah, that sounds cute,” she states while beginning to part my hair for the braid. My phone vibrates in my lap and I turn it over to see a text from Ash. A smile comes to my lips as I look down, opening the notification. “Keep your head up, Y/N.”
I let out a laugh as does she while raising my head again, bringing my phone up to eye level. I read over the text as the bubbles appear on the screen and I wait to see what he’s sending before typing out a reply. A picture of my handsome soon-to-be husband pops up and my heart flutters.
Less than two hours. Can you believe it? Less than two hours and I finally get to call you my wife. I love you so much! xoxo
I can’t believe it, to be honest. I love you. See you soon, handsome. oxox
I lock my phone and set it on the table in front of me as Steff turns on some music. I get lost in my thoughts as Mariah gathers the makeup from my bag, setting it onto the vanity in front of me. I’ve been living my best life alongside the man I’m in love with and it’s only the beginning. “Did you see Calum when we pulled in?” I ask my friend and she grins sheepishly.
“I did. He looks good, but when doesn’t he,” she points out and I chuckle, nodding my head. “I bet you’re anxious to see how Ash looks.”
A groan leaves my lips along with a laugh. “God, don’t you know it,” I tell her while shaking my head. My mother halts my movements and I mumble a quiet sorry with a giggle.
“I’m almost done,” she tells me with a smile.
-
“Okay,” Steff starts as she walks back into the room, closing the door behind her, “all the boys are dressed and the seating outside is almost full. I’m pretty sure some people are missing but they could just be running a bit late. Also, Michael looks really good. In case y’all were wondering.”
I laugh at the last thing she said, looking at her through the mirror. The girls were all in their bridesmaid dresses as my mother and grandmother were in their dresses they brought from home. “I’ve done well then is what you’re saying?” I ask jokingly with a smirk on my lips.
“Absolutely,” she grins and sits on the couch that rests in the corner of the room.
“Stop smiling,” Mariah tells me and drops the smile. She continues to do my makeup, moving on from my face and onto my eyes.
“Did you happen to see Ash, Steff?” I ask her as my eyes were closed, feeling the makeup brush dancing across my eyelids.
“I did. He looks good as well. You might swoon all over again when you see him,” she tells me and I bite my lip a bit. “He’s really excited to see you. I had to stop him twice from coming over here.”
I chuckle and shake my head once Mariah pulls away. “Of course he did. He’s always been impatient,” I grin and open my eyes to see my friend analyzing her work. “Good?”
She grins, giving me a thumbs up. “Breathtaking. Take a look,” Mariah mentions and steps out of the way of the mirror. A gasp leaves my lips and I stand up from the chair.
“Oh my god, Mariah,” I whisper and look over myself. “I look gorgeous. Thank you so much,” I tell her and bring her into a hug. Once I pull away I look towards my wedding dress and the long veil that has lace on the bottom, feeling the butterflies in my stomach again. “It’s time for the final touches…”
-
I stand in front of the long mirror, running my hands down the skirt of the dress. I press my lips together as my mom positions the veil on my head, trying not to tear up. I move some of the dress up, admiring the heels that are on my feet.
Knocking on the door snaps me from my gaze as my stepdad came into the room. “Wow, Y/N, you look absolutely gorgeous,” he tells me with a smile on his lips. I wave a hand in front of my face, trying to stop myself from crying as I walk over to him.
“I’m glad you’re here… in my life, in my mother’s life. You make her so happy. I’m glad you’re the one walking me down the aisle,” I mumble and he begins to tear up. The two of us hug for a few seconds before the door opens once more.
“Hey,” Payton calls out and our heads turn towards her, Luke stood behind her. “We ready?” She asks and I nod my head.
She gives me my bouquet of flowers before I link arms with my stepdad. We walk out towards the door that leads outside and I let out a deep breath, trying to calm down the nerves. The music begins to play and someone opens the green doors in front of us. Payton and Luke walk out first, a smile on my lips at the thought of them two finally being happy together. Steff and Michael go next and our maid of honor and best man take their place at the doors.
Mariah and Calum begin their descent down the aisle, Greg and I walking up to go next. “I’m getting married…” I whisper with a large smile on my lips. Calum and Mariah made it to the altar and it was our turn.
Everyone in the crowd stood up and turned to watch me. I lick my lips a bit as we started our descent, my eyes finding Ash’s. I watch as his lips parted slightly, glancing towards Cal who nudged him with his elbow. His hazel eyes met mine again and I could see them become a bit glossy. I love you he mouths to me and I do the same, grinning ear to ear as we stop in front of the altar.
“I’m so happy for you, kid,” Greg tells me and presses a kiss to my cheek. I smile at him softly before stepping up to Ash, handing Mariah my bouquet.
The minister gives both of us a small smile and glances down at his book before speaking. “We are gathered here today to celebrate with Ashton and Y/N as they proclaim their love and commitment to the world. We are gathered to rejoice, with and for them, in the new life they now undertake together.”
Ashton reaches forward and grabs my hand, interlacing our fingers and I give him a small smile. “The relationship you enter into today must be grounded in the strength of your love and the power of your faith in each other. To make your relationship succeed it will take unending love. It will take trust, to know in your hearts that you truly want what is best for one another and to learn and grow together. It will take faith, to go forward together without knowing what the future holds. If you both come freely and understand the responsibility and work involved to make your relationship thrive, and are committed to not only each other but your family, please take each other by the hands and reply "we do." He motions his hands for us to do so and I grab Ashton’s other hand.
“We do,” the two of us say simultaneously with silly grins on our lips.
“Ashton, repeat after me,” the minister tells me and begins to read from his book, “Y/N, you are my best friend and everlasting companion. You have brought me the truest happiness I have ever known. I take joy today in committing my life to yours.”
“Y/N,” Ash begins and I couldn’t help but start to tear up, “you are my best friend and everlasting companion. You have brought me the truest happiness I have known. I take joy today in committing my life to yours.”
The minister smiles and motions Cal to step forward, “now place the ring on her hand and repeat after me... with this ring, I promise to stand with you as we share this life, and cherish the memories we make together.”
Calum hands Ashton the ring and he takes it between his fingers and positions it on my finger. “With this ring, I promise to stand with you as we share this life, and cherish the memories we make together,” he smiles while sliding it onto my finger, running his thumb over it a few times after he was done.
The minister now turns to face me, beginning his spiel once more. “Y/N, repeat after me: Ashton, you are my best friend and everlasting companion. You have brought me the truest happiness I have ever known. I take joy today in committing my life to yours.”
“Ashton,” I start and my stomach does a bunch of flips as his hand squeezes mine, “you are my best friend and everlasting companion. You have brought me the truest happiness I have ever known. I take joy today in committing my life to yours.”
“Now place the ring on his hand and repeat after me.... with this ring, I promise to stand with you as we share this life and cherish the memories we make together,” he speaks while motioning Mariah to step forward.
She hands me the ring as I take Ash’s hand in mine, getting ready to slide it onto his finger. “With this ring, I promise to stand with you as we share this life and cherish the memories we make together,” I tell him while sliding the ring onto his finger.
We interlace our fingers on both hands as we glance towards the minister for the next part of the ceremony, surprised I’ve made it this far without tears streaming down my cheeks.
“Ashton and Y/N, prior to this moment you each walked a separate path. Now, you embark together on a shared path. Yet the journey is not yours alone, for you have already been blessed with beautiful children. It is the strength of your love that shall nourish you all together as a family,” he smiles and turns the page, continuing on. “Ashton and Y/N, today you have stood before these witnesses and declared your intent to commit your lives to each other in marriage. You have made promises to each other and your family. Your road to this moment has not always been smooth, but you continued to fight for one another. I hope you will never forget the fight and perseverance it has taken to get to this moment. And I hope you will never forget the love and joy you feel today because these are the values that will keep your marriage, family, and bond to one another strong.”
He closes his book, crossing his arms in front of him. “And so, by the power vested in me by the American Marriage Ministries and the State of Massachusetts, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Ashton, you may kiss your bride.”
Cheers began early as Ashton dips down to press a kiss to my lips. I wrap my arms around his shoulders, my fingers finding their way into his hair as I couldn’t help the smile coming to my lips. He pulls away, grinning like a kid on Christmas as he pressed a couple quick kisses to my lips. Everyone stood up and clapped their hands as the two of us began our way down the aisle and towards the reception hall.
“I love you so much, Mrs. Irwin,” Ash mumbles as we step into the building, his hazel eyes moving down the white and blush dress I was wearing. “You look so breathtaking by the way.”
“I love you, Mr. Irwin, and thank you,” I grin before pressing a kiss to his cheek. “You happen to look handsome as fuck and I cannot wait until later…”

In the words of the groom, “People said it will never work – she is a beautiful angel and he is a unique-featured weirdo.”
Mallory and Ryan have known each other since high school, through awkward encounters and mutual friends. After realizing they were particularly sweet on each other, Mal and Ry patiently waited for the right timing to be together. Between law school, medical school, Connecticut, and Boston, Ryan popped the question by the romantic reflecting pool in Boston, and she said YES!
With the forecast showing thunderstorms and rain at Willowdale Estate all day, Mallory & Ryan prepared themselves for a wet wedding day. It poured all morning long, as predicted. As Mallory descended the stairs to see her husband for the first time, something miraculous happened: the SUN came out. After a joyous first look as captured byLena Mirisola Photography, the ceremony began. Right before their first kiss, everyone could hear the pitter patter of drops bouncing off the tent – it began to pour as they sealed their marriage with a kiss and ran down the aisle.

Body & Soul: The Endgame Fix Part 3: Resurrections
Summary: We start on Monday morning of October 30, 2023, the day before Halloween. Bruce plans Natasha's memorial while visiting the wreckage at the Avengers Compound, and he thinks back to what led up to losing her.
On the thirteenth day since he’d learned Natasha was gone, Bruce stood on the spit of lakeshore high ground that was left between the crater where the Avengers Compound had stood and the partially drained lake. The salvage efforts were almost complete, and the rebuilding would start soon. It was so-called “Mischief Night” and Halloween was tomorrow, but he wasn’t particularly feeling it. He looked to his left at the mist over the diminished lake and couldn’t stop remembering what was gone. The dock that he’d ripped the bench from and tossed to the other shore was washed away. It was probably somewhere in the muddy pit with all the high-tech rubble from the buildings. The spot where he’d held up the pancaked concrete layers of the wrecked main building on his left shoulder while he, Rocket, and Rhodey waited those tense minutes for Scott to save the day was now under thirty feet of muddy water.
Tony’s estate wouldn’t be through probate for several months, but he, Pepper, Happy, and Rhodey had been meeting to rough out plans for the new and (as always) improved facility. He imagined it would be done before the legal will was read. Tony had left them a ton of ideas to go through, but they obviously had a jump on the demolition Bruce thought with a little bitterness.
The excavation and recovery effort had started immediately after the funeral, but with Scott’s help, Bruce had been the one to find most of Natasha’s things that were salvageable. To be honest, he was really just looking for some mementoes, something of hers to bury since they didn’t have a body. The ballet toe shoes and her third favorite sidearm seemed appropriate. Old Stanislaus, the maintenance worker who’d returned to duty the day after the battle, had offered to make a box for them. Bruce had brought him the bench he’d pitched since it was one of them Nat and he liked to sit on together when he first arrived back on Earth before he moved to his place in Bridgewater about forty minutes to the north.
His rural property was a quiet place, but it had a lot of old small-town charm and was within walking distance of anything he needed day to day. He’d also wanted to be part of a community and not a hermit. Happily, he’d found a home there in Bridgewater. Bruce had initially picked it because of the extensive grounds and the lack of zoning, so he was able to add cutting-edge lab spaces into the older gutted buildings yet still keep the overall appeal of the Arts and Crafts and Victorian exteriors. After his metamorphosis, he’d redone the interiors to a larger scale to match his increased size and height. Everything was off the grid and sustainable, so he was rather proud of that. At some point, he began to think of it as his permanent home.
Tony had even worked with him on modifying his Hummer HX and switching it over to run on a modified Arc Reactor. Bruce was really glad they’d been able to talk as they worked because they’d both felt like they were trying to get over breakups of a sort, yet really feeling guilty deep down for enjoying themselves and finding some normalcy and even joy after the Decimation. Little Morgan had never known him as anyone other than big, green Uncle Bruce, so she didn’t judge. Thankfully, Pepper hadn’t either. She and Tony both saw that he was finally comfortable as himself. No tip-toeing. No overwhelming fear of destroying those he loved. No debilitating pain from the transformations or from holding his larger form. In many ways, Bruce was at peace. With one huge exception, he was happy, too.
He never could get Natasha away from her station at the Avengers Compound, not even to see the gardens he’d added so naively three and four years ago for her. Rhodey had even offered to step in for her to take the helm at the Compound, so she and Bruce could spend some time together. That proposition had really brought things to a head, and Nat and he had quarreled . . . loudly, over her fixation with saving what was left of the universe and what it was costing her psychologically and physically. He had begged her to come with him, just for the weekend, for a day or two, no pressure, separate bedrooms, and she’d scornfully told him he was selfish. He only cared about himself and his desires.
Bruce had finally had enough. “They used to be your desires, too, Nat.” During the first three weeks after they’d killed Thanos, the two of them had started making plans, but the day he’d returned from his trip to Willowdale, Virginia, to see Leonard Samson and start therapy, she’d ignored and avoided him, acted like he was a complete stranger and then a leper. Not three days before that, he’d poured his heart out to her about needing to find a compromise between both halves. He’d explained that might require serious changes, a lot of digging down deep to find the root of their anger, if he was ever going be whole. She’d said she understood and would be his . . . their partner in this journey. She sincerely wanted this for him . . . for both of them, and by extension their own relationship.
After he arrived back at the Compound from Virginia, her sudden coolness had shocked him. What had he done? He must have done something to offend her, but she’d never say. For crying out loud, they’d shared a bed for nearly two months! Suddenly, she wouldn’t even stay in the same room with him unless he physically cornered her. After a month of that icy treatment and tension, he’d been forced to embark on his journey alone. Maybe if she’d been there with them like she’d promised, the changes might have come about differently or seemed less drastic and more of an organic progression like he’d experienced them. Even if he couldn’t convince her to engage with them, they’d been very satisfied with the “upgrades” once the physical and mental integration process was complete. In 18 months, what was done was done. No going back. He was finally whole. Maybe he’d made it permanent to burn their bridges and give her the excuse to be repelled by his size, his color, his “monstrousness”? If she was really that shallow . . . Yet, the thing that still didn’t make any sense, the issue he couldn’t reconcile, was that she’d pursued him . . . waited for him . . . said she loved him and wanted a life with him. Bruce knew she’d been sincere, that she hadn’t lied to him. He would have known.
Yet, that day in the conference room, all of that frustration boiled over as she attacked him and refused to let him help her or give their relationship one last chance. Bruce had crossed his massive forearms across his chest and asked if she was too embarrassed now to even be seen with him much less touch him like she once had. Natasha admitted she was repelled by the sight of him because he’d “mutilated” himself. He didn’t even look human to her.
Bruce had left, but not before pointing out that he’d repeatedly asked for her input before he started, and she’d ignored him and his requests. Yes, maybe he was selfish, but he was willing to put in the hard work on himself to find some peace for him and safety for others. There was no “mutilation” unless she counted her cutting his heart out. Whether or not she approved of the results, he was happier and healthier than he’d been since 2003, maybe even before that. He did not feel guilty about that one bit. He’d asked her several times to go to counselling, and she’d made every excuse to avoid it. Where had her “mission” and her unnecessary martyrdom gotten her? Try looking in the mirror. She was a wreck inside and out. When she was ready to start living again, she knew where to find him. He’d be damned if he’d stand by and watch her slowly, needlessly kill herself any longer. After that, he’d taken a page from Tony’s playbook and mostly washed his hands of anything to do with Avenging.
He hadn’t seen her face-to-face again until Steve had called and asked him to come meet with him and Scott about a new possibility to science their way out of the Decimation, so Bruce had picked a diner where he’d been often enough they had a chair made especially for him. He’d been completely surprised when she walked in with Steve and Scott. Natasha looked even more chronically fatigued than before, but she was still beautiful to him. He’d half expected her to be “with” Steve, but their body language said otherwise. Bruce did his best to be cordial, which made him feel down right manic. He was in a good place, and when she threw out the line about what he’d done for himself having seemed impossible, Bruce didn’t fight her stoking his vanity and wrapping him around her little finger one more time. Despite how she’d treated him and abandon what they’d agreed they both wanted, he’d still loved her, and he still desired what they’d almost had. She’d meant that much to him. Now, he knew he’d never really been over her at all. “‘Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.”  He wasn’t so certain he agreed with Tennyson because he certainly hadn’t learned from the experience. He hadn’t moved on. Now, all he could do was mourn her, and it hurt.
Bruce took a deep breath and filled his large set of lungs with crisp morning air. Now, it was fall and the oaks and maples were finally showing their colors. Bruce walked the grassy strip with the blast crater on his right and the lake on his left. He was feeling melancholy, mostly because he was trying to plan Natasha’s memorial. He’d Skyped earlier that morning with Lee and talked to Betty for the first time since she’d been back. She’d returned to a son and daughter who’d jumped from three and five years old to eight and ten. Lee said that deep down he had held onto the hope she wasn’t lost, and it had paid off thanks to Bruce. Betty had thanked him, and Bruce was too happy for them to say anything. He was just thankful they’d had their reunion, their resurrection. She’d wanted to have a look at the arm, and he’d agreed to come down in a month or so. He’d already gone through two treatments with Helen and Shuri, which had the limb looking and functioning a lot closer to normal. Thankfully, Betty hadn’t given him any negative feedback about his looks or the “changes,” so at least he’d not had to deal with that. No doubt, Lee had given her a heads-up, but still, it was a kindness and he appreciated it.
Bruce had been having fun over the past week or so discovering what Shuri had packed into the Kimoyo Bead she’d given him. He was not wearing the glove or the prosthetic sleeve that morning because everything was healing so well. He used his scared right hand to roll the Bead on his left wrist to see what the new campus would look like via his glasses. The main building and visitor’s center would have Tony’s name on it, but the committee had agreed the Natasha Romanoff Training Facility would be the next biggest structure along with the new practice grounds. There would be a rose garden and a columbarium for remains, too. Later, they would probably add statues to keep Hap appeased, but Pepper, Rhodey, and he wanted to keep things simple here. Clint and Steve would probably agree with the majority. Thor had told him to be his proxy. There were already enough heroic statues planned elsewhere around the world.
Bruce wasn’t quite sure why he scanned back toward the left to the half-empty lake with its dissipating mists, but he was thinking of sitting on the dock with her, placing his arm around her shoulders and Nat leaning her head against the crook of his neck. They’d had plans. Maybe they’d have been able to patch things up once all the damn guilt-soaked red ink had been washed out of her ledger a hundred billion times over. Something set the Kimoyo Bead blinking and then it vibrated, so Bruce swung his attention back around and looked at the water left in the middle of the lake. It was a deep-water lake, so there was still well over a hundred feet of water in the middle beyond the 25-30 yards of sloping mudflats, gravel beds, and brush left exposed. He’d estimated it might take as long as a year for the lake to fill up naturally now that the shoreline had been mostly repaired.
Bruce tapped his earpiece to access the mobile interface in his glasses. “Friday, use the Bead’s sensors to analyze what set it off. I want to know what’s left in the center of the lake.”
“Aye, Dr. Banner, aside from rocks and detritus, it appears to be a metallic object about 25 x 20 meters. It may be a craft. Make and type, unknown. Possibly a type of . . . spacecraft,” the Interface informed him as it continued to gather data and analyze it. “That would be my best guess as to what it is, Sar. It seems to have been in place for an extended period of time, but has just recently ‘decloaked,’ for the lack of a better description.”
“Then it’s not Tony’s?”
If the Interface could have cleared its throat, it would have. “I think I’d recognize Mr. Stark’s work.”
“Sorry, Friday, I had to ask. Are you sure it’s not a Chitauri craft or something else left over from Thanos’ attack?”
“No, Doctor, it’s much smaller, too lightly armored: it’s only about eighteen tons and not at all like what previously did battle here. The sediment would indicate it’s been in place for a number of years.”
“Any idea what it’s doing here? Is there anyone in it?”
“Nothing conclusive yet, Dr. Banner. The metal makes scanning a challenge. Wait, an affirmative: there is one humanoid aboard. No detectable mechanical activity aside from life support though. Shall I try and establish contact?”
“Yes, and alert Colonel Rhodes and whomever else is closest . . . Get Fury if he’s available.”
A few tense moments passed as Bruce considered what to do. He wasn’t back up to fighting form yet, but he could summon the Hulk-Buster armor and a couple of others from storage at his place for backup if needed—Tony had those and more than a few other projects stored there in various stages of completion. He hoped Morgan or Peter or Harley would finish them with him.
Friday’s lilting voice finally reported back: “I’ve not been able to reach Colonel Rhodes because he’s on assignment, but I successfully contacted Fury. Ms. Maximov is on her way from New York City. Fury advises you to sit tight and wait till they arrive. He has contacted Carol Danvers as well.”
Great. The big gun. “All right, Friday. Is the mystery ship still just sitting there? No response?”
“No response to my . . . wait. I’m getting audio. I’ll patch it through . . .”
“Avengers? Anyone? Mayday. Hello . . . ?”
