All throughout the month of December, I decided that I'm going to post a picture of one of my OCs. Since it's Dec. 5th, I've decided to start off by posting 5 in a row. From left to right:

The myth. The legend. She is the moment. She is Marshalia Abadeer. More commonly known as Marsha, she is one of Marceline's three younger sisters. Whereas Marceline is a "fearless daredevil", Marsha is more of an "introverted shut-in", often preferring books over people. I based Marsha's pose off of this one fanart of Raven, who is one of Marsha's biggest inspos.

"How can you enjoy this book? It's got no pictures!" Chase Zagreus is the son of demon nobility and Marsha's ex. While they were set up by their parents, Chase and Marsha didn't get along. At all. Chase hunted for sport, which clashed with the animal-loving Marsha. He was also a sexist jerk who looked down at Marsha. It wasn't until Marsha left the Nightosphere that their relationship ended.

Willow Lowell says "hi!" Willow is a werewolf and the oldest of 12 siblings. While she loves her family, she's also very adventurous and likes to be independent. She is one of Marsha's friends, having met Marsha at the library one day. Willow is mute and communicates via sign language.

While not completely my OC, Kimaris of the Ars Goetia is the 5th fankid for a ship that I'm plotting over on my RP blog. Kimaris has a love for nature as well as sharing her mother's love for animals. She's got that adorkable Disney protagonist vibes.

Finally, we have the underrated Sarah Abadeer. Sarah is one of Marceline's three younger sisters. Sarah is a very timid and introverted individual with a love for gardening and plants. When she isn't caring for her younger sisters, she's tending to her garden.

Fancasting for a Trigun live-action tv series/movie!! I know we got just Trigun Stampede, but we can’t let Cowboy Bebop get a live action and not Trigun right??

For all my selections I would say about 75-80% are actors I have seen in one or more of their most well known roles. For anyone else I narrowed down to 2-4 options and I did extra research into their filmography, interviews to hear their voices and general vibe, etc. And I also looked at what kind of roles they trended towards—sci-fi/fantasy and superhero media giving them bonus points.

See below for info about the actors and my runner up choices for each character. I included tidbits like their age, height, and notable roles.

For Vash and Knives I wanted to first look for real life identical twins. After some research, I believe I found a fitting pair. Cole and Dylan Sprouse, best know for their childhood roles in the Suite Life of Zack and Cody. Although I don’t think I knew their adult roles as well as their Zack and Cody days, that real twin dynamic just adds that extra layer.

Of the two, I found Cole having a softer look, and lately it appears he’s been going with black hair which seemed fitting if we think about black-haired Vash at the end of TriMax. Dylan’s look has just that different sharpness and edginess that I slotted him to Knives.

Ruby Cruz (Kit Tanthalos, Disney+’s Willow) is a very talented young woman and recently made a feature length movie debut as Hazel Callahan in Bottoms (2023) and will be starring in an upcoming rom-com The Threesome. (See notes about edit below.)

Milly was a tricky one for me. I have a couple of runners up below. My current pick is Mina Sundwall, especially for her role as Penny Robinson in Netflix’s space family drama Lost in Space.

Although I’m on board with the HC that Wolfwood is Latinx, I had to go with famous werewolf Jacob Black from Twilight, Taylor Lautner. I got a couple other choices below too.

Liam Hemsworth (or Chris idkkkk). Nuff said?

Rem was a bit hard to choose. I had to go with Candice Patton as a personal big fan of her role as Iris West in The Flash as a DC fan. She has just the right oh-crap-I-have-kids-I-am-not-prepared-at-all motherly acting vibe down pat that is essential for Rem.

Despite the fact that Christopher Daniel Barnes is always smiling in photos, his breath of filmography makes him such a good fit for wise Drunkle Roberto.

Being so effing hyped about Nicholas playing Lex Luthor in Superman Legacies (2025) he has the perfect mix of heroic and villain roles for Legato’s psychotic righteousness. And he’s already had blue hair (and fur all over his whole body) as Hank “Beast” McCoy, c’mon too easy.

Zazie Beetz… that couldn’t have been a coincidence? Like Studio Orange must have know about this actress when they worked on the Beast’s revamped design. For a second option I’d probably pick a child/adolescent actor but Zazie can pretty much take whatever form they want, so why not both? Edit: I’m going with Scarlett (Trixie from Lucifer). Very very talent young woman. She’s funny, smart, sassy.

"Hey, Will! Wait up!"

Riley and Forrest turn at the sound of the motorcycle's approach, Riley's face breaking into an automatic grin when he hears Buffy's voice. Forrest nearly overbalances the dolly stacked high with beer. Willow, who they had been walking to the party along with her roommate, turns as well.

"Hey, Buffy," Willow says. "We thought we were gonna see you at Lowell House. We were just walking there now."

Buffy looks very sexy in a little halter top thing under a leather jacket. Riley notices that for about one second and then he notices the guy driving the motorcycle that Buffy just climbed off of the back of.

"Yeah, we were on the way over but we had to stop to fight some - uhm, to stop a fight," Buffy is saying to Willow. "To stop a fight! There were some men, and they looked like they were going to fight, so we stopped them. From fighting."

Willow's roommate Tara, a pretty, quiet girl in the Lesbian Pride Alliance group, says, "Oh! Oh, that - that sounds upsetting."

The guy isn't someone Riley's seen around campus or around town before: a Caucasian male, late twenties, maybe 5'9'', bleached platinum blond hair, light-colored eyes, scar in left eyebrow, piercing in right, several identifying tattoos on his neck, upper chest, arms, and hands - nothing explicitly gang-related, Riley notes, but the overall picture screams bad news.

Bad News is also painfully, razor wire thin, which in combination with the bruise-dark circles under his eyes and the way he's only wearing a thin, ratty t-shirt and ripped acid wash jeans despite the chilly SoCal night air makes Riley think habitual drug user, too. He doesn't see needle tracks, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

The other thing Riley's trying not to notice about Bad News is that the guy is, for a skinny-ass pasty semi-goth punk, kinda hot. And that some girls go for that sort of look.

"It wasn't bad," Buffy reassures Tara. "We just gave 'em a stern talking-to."

Riley meets the man's gaze square on. He doesn't look away, even when most people would - and listen, Riley's a big guy, muscular, and he's got a friendly type of face but he's not a friendly type of guy, generally speaking. He knows how to intimidate people, and right now, this motherfucker is looking at Agent Finn with a little smirk curling up his mouth like he'd love to get popped one right in the jaw.

Neither of them are wearing helmets. That's against the law, in California. Technically, Riley has the authority to cite them for it. He's trying to decide whether his immediate gut reaction to beat the shit out of this guy is worth potentially sinking his chances with the girl he's crushing on, when Forrest cuts in.

"Hey, Buffy," Forrest says, nodding friendily and subtly digging an elbow into Riley's ribs. "Who's your friend?"

Riley looks down at his feet and takes a deep breath. Gets a fucking grip on himself. Jesus Christ, Finn.

"This is Spike," Buffy says. There's a beat where everyone waits for the introduction to continue.

When it doesn't, Tara offers a little wave and says, "Hello, Spike."

"'Lo," Spike says. He smiles at her, a bit. "Pleasure t'make your acquaintance."

He's English? And what the hell kind of a name is Spike?

Before Riley can ask any of the pressing questions, Buffy says brightly, "So, we're all walking to Lowell then? I think the party's already started, and they're gonna need that beer." She points to the dolly stacked with cases that Forrest has all but forgotten about.

Spike revs the motorcycle engine and pulls away from the curb. "Give us a ring if you need to be picked up, luv," he says.

"I'll prob'ly walk," she tells him. He shrugs. "But thanks."

The five of them start walking again. They fall into a short little line; Forrest goes first with the beer, Willow and Tara following, and Riley and Buffy bring up the rear.

Riley tries to organize his thoughts. After a few minutes of walking in silence - bewildered and tense on his part, placidly innocent on Buffy's - he says, "How - can I ask a question?"

"Ask away!" she says, blinking up at him prettily. A lock of hair has come loose from her updo and is falling into her face. Riley resists the urge to push it behind her ear.

"How do you know that guy Spike?" At her immediate frown, he rushes to expain: "He just doesn't seem like the kind of person you'd know in your life."

Buffy thinks about that for a while, walking with her arms folded across her ribcage. "You don't really know much about my life," she points out, not ungently. Riley feels his brow furrow. "But, yeah, I guess he doesn't." She grows quiet again, not like she's not answering, but like she's considering her answer.

"You don't have to tell me," he says. They're outside Lowell House at this point, just across the street. He looks to Forrest, who has stopped at the front door to offload the beer.

Forrest gives him an all clear? Riley nods, and his brother slips into the house, which is pumping with music and booze and quite a few people already. Buffy smiles and waves to Willow and Tara, who are doing the same thing Forrest just did but without the military hand signals.

Willow casts one last glance back at her friend, then takes her roommate's hand and enters the house, leaving Riley and Buffy outside alone. The air is still and cool and dry; in the distance, an owl screeches. Buffy's hair looks soft and golden in the low moonlight.

"We met while I was in high school," Buffy says. "He was - we didn't really get along." She laughs. "That's an understatement. But he ended up helping me with something ... something really important, something that saved people's lives. Like, that level of important. And this summer, he came back to Sunnydale after being gone for like a year, and he needed help. So I did what I could."

"What did he need help with?" Riley asks.

"Well," Buffy says. "He needed a place to stay, that was part of it."

"He lives with you?" Riley says, shocked.

Buffy nods her head. "He's living in my mom's basement."

"He lives with your mom?!" Riley wouldn't let that asshole anywhere near his mother. Jesus Christ.

Buffy giggles, actually giggles! "Yeah, Mom loves him, she thinks he's really sweet. They gossip together all the time. Dawn - my little sister Dawn - she has a total crush on him, it's so funny."

That's it. The Summers family must be made up of crazy people.

"Anyway, Spike mostly hangs out in our basement and works out or reads or does, like, the gross chores no one else wants to do," Buffy says. "And he drives me around, 'cause I commute to school, at least if it's - uhm, if it's, like, late at night? And not safe, you know, to walk."

There's several things Riley could say to that. What he settles on, eventually, is, "You should really wear a helmet if you're gonna ride a motorcycle."

Buffy blinks at him. "Oh," she says. "Okay, sure." She mostly sounds like she's humoring him, not like she's agreeing with him.

"It's just," he starts, and breaks off. It's been a weird night, and it's barely ten p.m. The girl he likes is out here tucked against his arm, talking to him about the mysterious Sid Vicious junkie guy that lives with her, who ferries her around on the back of his motorcycle at all hours of the night like her personal taxi service, who is also someone she's known since she was a teenager, apparently, and who she's saved people's lives alongside.

Riley blows out a long breath.

"It's just safer," he says. "For everyone."

Buffy's eyes soften. "Okay," she says. "You wanna go in to the party now? I hear they have mediocre, lukewarm beer."

"I hear someone dropped it and got it all shook up while they were carrying it here," Riley says, and takes her hand to lead her into Lowell.

I wrote this short stuff on a whim because I've been listening to Sufjan Stevens' album, Carrie & Lowell.

The album talks about Sufjan's own journey to understanding his grief towards his late mother, Carrie, who died from cancer. The first song, Death with Dignity, is actually about Sufjan finally accepting her loss and I like to wonder how Ruka's death affected Kyoujurou in a similar way.

Spirit of my silence, I can hear you

But I’m afraid to be near you

And I don’t know where to begin

This very strong and diligent boy can't even cry and doesn't have time to settle for a bit. Silence is a time of reflection and I feel Kyoujurou must have a lot of struggle with it. He is constantly trying to be better and is continually perfecting his Flame Breathing techniques, he has no time to mull or ruminate despite being so wise for his age. He was so wise even Tanjirou carried his words and actions when he started to doubt himself.

"...you may feel like digging your heels in, but the flow of time waits for no one. It won't patiently stand by as you grieve."

At the same time, demon activity doesn't stop waiting for him to grieve either. He has also been reminded of the times he lost a comrade while demon slaying.

"Death comes after the friends you shared a laugh with."

Somewhere in the desert, there’s a forest

And an acre before us

This verse reminded me of Kyoujurou's spiritual realm. A barren wasteland filled with nothing but heat and smoke. But during his last time, the smile he gave when seeing his mother reflected the hidden acre or forest filled with peacefulness. Despite everything he experienced in his life including his mother's death, there's still a silver lining to it and he's forever a grateful and accepting guy.

And we all know how this will end

Unlike Sufjan, we don't know how Ruka died, just that she had been very weak. But cancer was known to be an Old man's friend and it reminded me of how Ruka had accepted her death long before she passed. It hurts her just as much to leave but neither of them could do anything about it and they both knew how it would end.

What is that song you sing for the dead?

I see the signal searchlight strike me in the window of my room

Well, I got nothing to prove

Kyoujurou's lack of "change" towards Ruka's death was him knowing that whatever song he would sing to the dead, wouldn't bring his mother back.

In my fic, I wrote about how Kyoujurou was slowly becoming very ambitious toward his goal, esp since despite everything it is still difficult to reach the top and it made him slightly agitated.

After all, that was also his mother's legacy. But as he calmed and came back to his senses he realized that it was fine to become a Hashira at his own pace. It was because his mom already believed in and he truly didn't have anything to "prove".

Yes, every road leads to an end

Sufjan had only seen his mother three summers in Oregon. After that, he barely interacted with her until she passed due to cancer. There are other songs in the album that referenced this, like in Should Have Known Better, he said

I should have wrote a letter

And grieve what I happen to grieve

That he regretted not telling his mom who was always away from him, how he truly feel. I can see how it relates to Kyoujurou who also barely had time to interact with Ruka as she died when he and Senjurou were at a very young age.

Your apparition passes through me in the willows

My fic told about how he still longed to be with her. The flower corner that I referred to, the sweet-smelling altar, was his mother's last trace and I actually used the word "apparition" in the fic because of that song and personify the flower corner to give that ghostlike image.

There are also other songs in the album that can apply to the Rengokus' in general. This family is just riddled with grief.

We're all gonna die

was the verse that kept being repeated in the song Fourth of July and really emphasize the despair and anguish.

The evil it spread like a fever ahead

What could I have said to raise you from the dead?

Oh could I be the sky on the Fourth of July?

The song Fourth of July feels like a back-and-forth conversation between Shinjurou to Ruka, Ruka to Kyoujurou, and Shinjurou or Senjurou to Kyoujurou. Both Ruka and Kyoujurou fought their own battles and died in the end. But at the same time from this next part, we could see how these deaths matter to the family.

Did you get enough love, my little dove

Why do you cry?

And I'm sorry I left, but it was for the best

Though it never felt right

My little Versailles

This part also feels like what Ruka would say to her boys but at the same time, it could be said by Kyoujurou to Senjurou and Shinjurou who finally sober up after Kyoujurou died, and the fact that it became a catalyst to Tanjirou's personal development.

The hospital asked should the body be cast

Before I say goodbye, my star in the sky

Such a funny thought to wrap you up in cloth

Do you find it all right, my dragonfly?

This is Shinjurou to Ruka or Kyoujurou. I feel so bad for Shinjurou because even before Ruka's death he had been feeling inadequate about his own ability as a Flame Hashira. His comrades die during battle and this battle that went on for centuries seemed to be never-ending. I feel even if he did get Ruka's warning that she was about to die, he would never be ready. He could never say goodbye until it was too late.

Why do you cry?

Make the most of your life, while it is rife

While it is light

This reminded me of Kyoujurou's last message to Shinjurou and Senjurou,

"Please take care of your body."

It is such a simple message but knowing their story, it holds so much weight. Shinjurou has been struggling with alcoholism and despite what he said, "He's only going to blame me for it!" Kyoujurou still only wished for his father's health.

You could also see the resemblance between the characters' traits. All the animals mentioned were of flight. They symbolize freedom and soaring dreams. The Rengokus had passed down the legacy of being the only Flame Hashira and it is such a huge responsibility. At the same time, there's the privilege of being in a wealthy and prodigy family, thus the flying references.

It is very fitting for Ruka to call Kyoujurou her little Versailles as he has an abundance of potential and knowledge and he's in a way a living embodiment of the Rengoku Family history.

A littl bonus:

The verse, "Shall we look at the moon, my little loon?" is so intriguing to me as aside from keeping the rhyme and bird/flight animal motif, a loon can also mean a crazy person.

Which reminded me of the story of Icarus. I don't think Sufjan was making an ironic nudge to that story. Despite the whole sun vs moon thing (Icarus flew too close to the sun and died) and the flying reference.

(Imagine telling Icarus to look at the moon as it will not melt his wings like the sun did looool)

The story of Icarus is known to be about hubris or "excessive pride" but at the same time, I feel it's kinda bleak. You can't really blame Icarus for wanting to escape such a hellish place, and it cost him his death as he heeds no warning from his father.

In a way, Shinjurou's discouragement serves as a warning for Kyoujurou to stop demon slaying. But at the same time, he gave no good reason for Kyoujurou to do so. Though I don't think Kyoujurou fears being his father if he ever stops demon slaying. He also never once pushes Senjurou to do better and lets him decide his future for himself instead of demanding that Senjurou become his tsuguko. But I do think that Kyoujurou knew deep down he was their last resort.

In fact, Kyoujurou was adamant that the only way to bring his father back to life was for him to become a Hashira. Yet it cost him his life.

But is it foolish to be confident that you can fly high enough you can still survive without melting your wings? Is it lunatic to think that you're your family's last hope?

Kyoujurou's death is a butterfly effect.

Sooo yeah, I recommend listening to these songs or the album, and happy Purgatory Countdown.

AUBE SUMMERS sur HELLMOUTH

Ayant été morte durant plus de 22 ans et ensuite ramenée à la vie, Buffy Summers a chamboulée l'ordre chronologique du temps et est revenue parmi les vivants avec la vie que le destin lui avait choisi. La tueuse est revenue en vie avec deux enfants, des jumeaux. Une jolie rouquine aux traits parfaits et un joli rouquin qui est le portrait craché de son père durant sa jeunesse. Ce fut un choc pour la tueuse d'apprendre que si elle était restée vivante, elle aurait eu des enfants avec Daniel Osbourne, car pour le moment dans le présent, ils ne forment toujours pas un couple. C'est Alec le frère d'Aube qui apprendra à Buffy et Oz qu'il est leur fils et qu'il a une jumelle. Après des tests sanguins et quelques vérifications magiques, Willow confirmera l'identité des enfants à ses amis.

Aube est le prénom qui lui aurait été donné si Buffy avait eu à choisir lors de sa naissance. Un prénom qui est la traduction en français du prénom de la soeur de sa mère, Dawn Summers.

Aube est apparue par magie dans ce monde cette année. Elle n'a jamais eu d'enfance, mais pourtant elle en porte les souvenirs dans sa mémoire. Elle se souvient que sa mère et son père s'aimaient d'une passion incomparable. Aube a le souvenir d'avoir eu une enfance heureuse avec des parents qui la mettait à l'abri du danger, pourtant celui-ci était bien présent. Plusieurs démons, sachant la tueuse avait eu des enfants, voulaient les kidnapper elle et son frère afin d'attirer leur mère dans leurs pièges maléfiques.

Dès son apparition à Sunnydale, Aube a la plus belle des vies. Présidente du club de journalisme de l'Université de Sunnydale, pom pom girl à temps partiel, étudiante entrain de compléter son cursus de droits et louve de nature. L'agenda d'Aube Summers est bien remplie. La rouquine est l'une des filles les plus populaires de Sunnydale. Elle se met rapidement amie avec la nouvelle élue Ciara Danvert, afin de garder un oeil sur elle à la demande de sa mère.

Elle rencontre le nouveau groupe qui se bat contre les forces du mal, Jeremy Lewilton, Valentin Duport, Grace Lorentis et Jessica Lewilton. Aube devient non seulement une très bonne amie du groupe, mais aussi l’une des membres fondatrices.

Pendant un cours, Aube fait la rencontre d'un nouveau professeur. Devon Spencer et elle en tombe follement amoureuse, ne sachant pas que c'est un démon qui se rapproche d'elle afin de tuer sa mère pour pouvoir ouvrir la bouche de l'enfer. Le démon avait appris que la reine des vampires @Béatrice Lowell avait besoin du sang des trois tueuses encore en vie pour déclencher l'apocalypse. Il jeta son dévolu sur Aube. Ayant décidé qu'elle serait la proie pour attirer l'une des premières tueuses entrent ses mains. Cependant celui-ci ne s'attendait pas à tomber éperdument amoureux du coeur de la loue. Lui qui a l'habitude de les dévorer encore chauds.

y’all have no idea just how often I think about Cordelia telling Angelus “I think about this happening every single day” in Eternity because yes she was bluffing and making stuff up for most of her speech to Angelus but also all lies are built upon a kernel of truth and I fully believe that is hers. I mean this is a girl who lived through Angelus’ reign of terror, who watched him torment her friends, mess with Buffy, kill Jenny Calendar, torture Giles, put Willow in the hospital, and attempt to plunge the world into hell. Not to mention the very real and terrifying moment when he looked at everyone she was with, saw the slayer and her two closest friends, and chose to go after her instead. He tackled her to the ground, essentially giving her a real up close and personal experience with and look at Angelus and it so very clearly effected her

Cordelia has very real trauma when it comes to Angelus and that’s something that is alluded to in lots of episodes of ATS and BTVS judging by how often she brings up the curse and/or Angel turning evil, but it’s also something that becomes particularly apparent in Eternity specifically when Cordelia is faced up against the very real possibility of Angelus returning and then later when he does, for the most part, return. She snaps at Wesley when she’s worrying about Angel spending the night with Rebecca Lowell and he tells her not to worry about the curse and tells him “Hey, you weren’t around the last time Angel went mental. I, on the other hand, was on the first wave of the clean-up crew. - He knows perfect happiness, he goes evil. So don’t tell me not to worry.” She shows up to Rebecca Lowell’s place to see Angel and is armed with the most massive cross. And most significantly, she’s genuinely terrified when Angelus does show up. While later on her fight or flight instincts kick in and she manages to distract Angelus long enough to take him down (in such an epic way might I add) that doesn’t change the very real instances before that where she is shaking or near tears or even how she whimpers when Angelus calls her name. At the end of the day she is downright terrified of Angelus because she knows almost first hand what he’s capable of and it’s effected her in so intrinsically that I do not doubt for a second that she thinks about Angel turning every single day or that she keeps a stake stashed in her desk or a cross in her bag

July was another mostly stellar reading month with many more of my anticipated new releases. Saga and The Hunger and the Dust returned! Chuck Tingle, Stephen Graham Jones, and Paul Tremblay knocked it out of the horror park. Cathy Yardley gave me more actual 40+ year old adults falling in love and Adriana Anders brought some serious both over 30 OWYM breeding kink heat. Once Bitten was so good that I forgive the cliffhanger ending and now I'll just have to read the rest of Heather's backlist while I (im)patiently wait for Twice Shy. Ari was born (AMAB) to Sarah Lowel, a sports journalist, through IVF. Her mother's domestic partner Alisha, is a champion soccer player and Olympic gold medalist in track and field. They were all taken by surprise by the owl delivering her Hogwarts letter.

She was taken by surprise again during the sorting ceremony, when she was sorted into Slytherin. Ostracized by most of her housemates, bullies living up to the stereotypes caused by purist Slytherin alumni. It was made worse partway through the fall term, when she found herself magically barred from the male dormitory she'd been assigned.

The Senior Head Girl (Clara) and a sympathetic professor helped her figure things out...transferring her to a new dorm and beginning her transition...

In her second year, the already famous Harry Potter started at Hogwarts...
