Let's have a look at the Twin Digimon, Terriermon and Lopmon!

Although only referred to by their baby names, Gummymon and Chocomon, both Terriermon and Lopmon had their debut in the Movie Digimon Adventure 02: Vol.1 Hurricane Touchdown!!/Vol.2 Transcendent Evolution!! The Golden Digimentals.

[If you have only seen the English Digimon The Movie, I highly recommend watching the japanese original for each of the 3 movies cut together for it. This movie alone has about 50% of its content cut.]

Most of you will easily remember Terriermon, but Lopmon only shows up in its child form in this ending illustration done by the late Yasuo Ōtsuka.

Instead of Kenji Watanabe or other Bandai staff, Terriermon and Lopmon were designed by the movie's director, Yamauchi Shigeyasu himself, for the movie.

On the design sheet, we can see several points in which Terriermon and Lopmon were supposed to be distinct from each other in their body style. On this sheet, Terriermon is 1.7 heads tall, while Lopmon is 2 heads tall. Even if they would fall straight down, Lopmon's ears also appear to be shorter than Terriermon's. Lopmon's visible canine is a design element still used today, even though in terms of size and proportions, the twins are identical in modern media.

Due to its popularity from the Adventure 02 movie, Terriermon was chosen as partner for Jianliang Li/Henry Wong in the next anime season, Digimon Tamers, and by association, Lopmon was chosen as partner for Jian's sister Xiaochun/Suzie.

According to the Reference Book, Lopmon is the lonely crybaby type, while Terriermon is calm and robust. Both have the move Petit Twister, while Terriermon's signature move is Blazing Fire and Lopmon's is Blazing Ice. Furthermore, the Reference Book entries of their Baby I stages Zerimon and Cocomon state that they're the only Digimon that are born as twins, but the reason why is still unknown. They also aren't exclusively born as twins and can hatch alone from eggs individually as well.

On the Digimon Web Twitter, Terriermon and Lopmon appear on various occasions, including the celebration of ふたごの日 futago no hi Twins Day. (5th of February)

The Card Game also features them together on some of their cards! And there's even official card sleeves with the two.

Both of them appear to be very popular and are featured in many parts of the franchise, Lopmon in particular, being chosen as a partner Digimon for characters in a number of games.

@digiweek Prompt 2: Sports Day / Relationships

“Willis, I’m not your pet, I’m your friend...”

I love this friendship/partnership so much that it’s (part of) the reason Terriermon is my favorite digimon. They just fit so well, I can’t imagine anyone else being Willis’ digimon partner. Maybe they would’ve bonded and worked well together but they wouldn’t have been the friend that Willis needed.

Time and time again Terriermon showed his unconditional love and loyalty to Willis as they spent years watching Cocomon get taken over by the virus and follow him around to try and stop him from hurting others while also trying in vain to find a way to help him. Yes sometimes Terriermon complained about walking, about the heat, about having to do everything alone but not once did he ever think about leaving Willis. It was his brother so Terriermon always had a stake in fighting, but he never left Willis’ side. They were friends, partners, and if Willis was going to do everything he could to help his brother, Terriermon was going to be with him.

It’s Terriermon that ultimately helps Willis realize he’s never truly alone and that letting others into his life isn’t a bad thing. That getting help and having others to lean on is a choice of the brave and not something to be seen as weak. That trying to do everything himself, that blaming himself and self-isolating wasn’t the answer. Terriermon was the right voice, the right friend for Willis to grow past his shame and guilt and accept others into his life.

No matter what, he would protect Willis, even going so far as to go one-on-one in a very uneven battle as a rookie vs a champion when running into Wendigomon in New York. Even then Terriermon held his own because Willis needed him.

Maybe it took a while for Willis to get out of his own head that his “pets” were more than that, that they were autonomous beings, but it was clear he and Terriermon had a strong bond. He cared for him (and Cocomon), played with him, ensured he had enough blankets to keep from being cold the night before the big Wendigomon showdown, allowed him to give his legs a break by carrying him around. In one view it could be WIllis doing the bare minimum, but having Terriermon around and wanting to keep him protected and safe and out of harm’s way so badly shows how much Terriermon has meant to him over the years.

And he was afraid to put the label “friend” on him because that meant he could be another one, another friend, that could be taken away from him too. But holding Terriermon at arm’s length was only hurting them both and they needed each other to learn exactly what being partners and friends meant to get them to the place where they could fight together and be a proper team.

But in the end they’re exactly what one another needed: a friend.

Finally finished something I wanted to draw as soon as @digitalgate02 came up with the idea of a third Terriermon/Lopmon sibling (the original post and followup are here and here!). Had to draw Wallace (literally) juggling candy-colored triplets, sorry not sorry XD

Also, this is why I was having an existential crisis about Chocomon's color in Hurricane Touchdown (lol), but now I guess the new problem is that Tortiemon's Baby II form needs a name! All I can think of are tiny little oranges, so maybe Satsumon (after satsuma), Mikanmon (after mikan), or Tangerimon (after tangerine)? I'm really bad at ideas for fakemon, but this little guy is just SO right up my alley! 🧡

There’s a new chapter of Puits d’Amour!  Read it on AO3 or FFN!  THERE IS SO MUCH ART THIS CHAPTER, so definitely check out the AO3 version!  

Speaking of, this is my first time drawing Wallace, and I ADORE HIM!  What a cute character design?!  I used my beloved Copic markers this chapter, and I somehow ended up on an art spree, so, um...  Please look forward to that, lol?

Today, Yamato goes on his first official café visit and meets some staff, specifically Wallace and Meiko.  Meanwhile, Jyou meets Mimi, and is NOT prepared!  Uh, got some Jyoumi in this chapter, lol!

Digimon fans who decide to make fanart of “all of the main characters across the entire original adventure anime continuity” but seemingly always seem to leave Wallace/Willis and/or Meiko out every time despite also being main characters in adventure instalments (hurricane touchdown and tri respectively) because “movies and OVAs don’t count or some other pretentious crap” are absolute cowards.

@reliablejoukido was nice enough to commission me to create a couple "Last Evolution Kizuna"-style portraits of Wallace for her Digimon fanfic, "Somewhere Only We Know!" I was thrilled to make a more serious attempt at drawing an aged-up version of him, and I am also pleased to learn that he is a bartender in this story! Please show her some love by reading and commenting on AO3 (Wallace shows up in Chapter 4)!

While I understand why people prefer the soundtrack and general tone of the original Our War Game I still staunchly stand by my belief that the Digimon Movie's soundtrack choices are inspired. Like the use of Here We Go Now is just so good. Very hype making for a scene that is like people reading emails while some digimon fly through a tube.
