valentine’s day was quickly approaching—it was obvious in the grocery stores nearby your apartment. a good portion of the store had become home to all things pink and red since the early days of january.

you stroll through the pink and red aisles, coolly pushing along a small shopping cart filled with your groceries and other miscellaneous goods, the wheels squeaking against the dirtied linoleum flooring.

you finally come to a stop as your eyes fall onto a small heart shaped box, snoopy and woodstock printed on the front of it. your lips twitch into a soft smile as you reach for it, your fingers brushing along the cheap and oddly shaped plush of snoopy that clings to the cardboard. you immediately think of william and place it into your cart with gentle hands, thinking of the little basket back home that you curated for him.

you and william were best friends, nearly inseparable from each other—and every year, the two of you spent valentine’s day together, curled up on his couch watching silly rom coms and enjoying each other’s company. you both always agreed that you wouldn’t give each other any gifts, always saying that being next to one another was the best gift either of you could’ve given, but that was rarely the case.

you’d already made him a little valentine’s day basket, the idea brought to you by a little tiktok you’d seen near the beginning of february. you’d blushed at the words that the original poster had used, calling it a valentine’s day basket for your significant other, but brushed the implication aside—william would understand you meant it in a friendly way.

even if you didn’t want it to be.

you quickly check out with your items and rush home, extra cautious with your small box of chocolates. the little smiley snoopy plush on the front already hangs onto the shiny cover as if its life depends on it, it doesn’t need to suffer any more harm.

when you finally get home, you slide your bagged groceries onto the counter and immediately turn your attention to the small gift basket hidden snugly behind your keurig. small things that remind you of william fill its contents; bags of swedish candy from a local candy shop take up majority of the space, the empty areas shoved full with matching woodstock and snoopy keychains and a gift card to the country club he likes—not that he ever needed the silly card.

the box of chocolates barely fits into the basket, hanging halfway out of it and leaving snoopy’s entire body out in the open. you contemplate dumping the entire basket and reorganizing it before a succession of rabid knocks on your door draws your attention away.

your brows furrow as you check the time, unsure of who could be at the door. when you lean over to look through the tiny peephole, all you see is black, a clear sign that someone has their finger pressed to the little circle—and you know only one person who would ever do that.

you swing your door wide open and grin brightly at william, his hand still outstretched as if to continue covering your peephole. his cheeks and the tip of his nose are flushed a bright pink, a beautiful contrast to his turquoise colored jacket. he has a gorgeous bouquet of flowers pressed to his chest and a very familiar looking box of chocolates tucked into the thick red ribbon that’s binds the flowers together.

“hello,” he says, smiling crookedly. “can i come in?”

you nod and step aside to let him in, careful to leave enough room so he doesn’t crush the large roses against the doorway. “who are those for?” you ask dumbly, shutting the door behind him and leaning into the wood. your heart thumps wildly in your chest, weirdly nervous that he’s going to say something unpleasant—something like he’d just been on his way over to a date and happened to be in the vicinity.

instead, william thrusts the bouquet toward you in a grandiose gesture, the deep red roses bobbing on their thick stems. “for you!” he says, cheeks burning impossibly brighter as he lets out a shy giggle.

you accept with shaky hands, unsure of what to make of this. he’d always given you a gift on the day of valentine’s, never a few days before. your heart beats even harder. “thanks, will,” you murmur gently, looking at the nearly perfect flowers. “i don’t know what to say… they’re very pretty.”

“you’re welcome.” william smiles fondly at you, his eyes rounded with something you think is adoration. “i like you,” he blurts quickly—so quick you almost miss it.

“what?”

william’s head cocks slightly to the side, eyes drifting over your face and then the area surrounding your head as if he’s scared to make eye contact with you. “i like you,” he repeats, “i know we are always each other’s valentine, but… will you be my valentine?” his words lilt with his gentle accent, soothing you like it always does as you fumble to keep hold of the bouquet in your hands.

you start giggling, unsure why, but still laughing. “yes,” you manage through your laughter, placing the roses on the kitchen countertop and throwing your arms around william’s neck. “i would love to be your valentine!”

the way you react is as if he’s done you the greatest favor ever, as if he’d just gotten down on one knee and asked you to marry him—and to you, it almost feels like it. william’s palms grasp the back of your shirt and you can feel him grinning into your shoulder, his cheek pressed snuggly against you.

“is… is that basket on the counter for me?” he asks, voice muffled.

you stiffen in william’s hold, having forgotten about the gift basket on full display atop the kitchen counter. you turn to look at it and cringe when you see that the snoopy plush has fully fallen off of the cardboard, now laying next to the exact same box of chocolates william bought for you.

“yeah,” you murmur, pulling away from his hold to rub at your nape. “it was supposed to be for valentine’s day. it’s got some snacks and stuff in it for movie night…”

william picks the little snoopy up and grins, dimples on full display as he wrestles the box of chocolates out of the bouquet’s ribbon to get access to your own snoopy. he gingerly takes the plushy from the box and situates the two little dogs next to each other, working their little hands together. your heart jumps at the sight of him, all cute and shy as he moves from the two dogs to the basket, his rough fingers brushing through all of the things inside of it.

“i love it,” he whispers, looking back at you and smiling. his head is slightly tilted to the side, cheeks and the tips of his ears bright pink.

“can i kiss you?” you ask suddenly, enamored with the sight of him standing in your kitchen. “it’s just… i also like you and you’re really cute and—“

you continue to ramble, embarrassment flooding your body, until william comes up to you and places a gentle hand on your cheek. when he presses his lips to yours, he’s unbelievably soft—as if you’ll suddenly pull away. instead, you press him closer to you with a placed hand on his nape, feeling him tilt his head to deepen your kiss with a soft brush of his tongue on your bottom lip.

fireworks explode in your stomach and behind your eyelids, all pink and red—the colors of valentine’s day and love.

Mackenzie walked through the hotel heading to her room for the beginning of training camp and the rookie tournament.

Mackenzie had been asked a few weeks ago when she signed her contract players she would be okay with sharing a room and she picked Will as one of them so Will was her roommate for the next few days until she was most likely moving into the Thornton house.

Mackenzie put the key card to the door and opened the hotel room dragging her suitcase in and saw Will sprawled out on one of the hotel beds and she watched him look up and when he saw he immediately started smiling.

“Celebrini!” Will jumped out of bed quickly walking over to her and his eyes looked around her face before pulling her into a hug slowly in case she wasn’t comfortable and when she didn’t pull away he slowly hugged him his arms tightened around her and squeezed her gently.

Will noticed with their heights his chin just rested on the top of her head. He closed his eyes getting distracted at how much he really liked hugging her before shaking his head and reluctantly pulling back with his hands ghosting over her arms, “Hi!” Will softly spoke to her looking down an her with a little smile.

“Hi Will.” Mackenzie softly spoke back smiling softly making Will blink because she looked so freaking pretty smiling at him and she just said his name for the first time.

“I think you are only allowed to call me Will now.” Will teased with a soft playful smirk as he grabbed her suitcase for her and brought it into their room and set in front of her bed.

“Okay. Does that mean you’ll call me by my first name?” Mackenzie teased softly back with a small smile feeling comfortable with Will.

“I think we’re in first name basis Mackenzie.” Will seriously nodded with a teasing smile making her laugh shaking her head.

Mackenzie walked over and opened up her suitcase taking out a few things and putting them on the nightstand and plugging in her phone.

Will headed into the bathroom as Mackenzie was unpacking some of the things in her suitcase.

Will walked out of the bathroom just as Mackenzie put a stuff animal on the bed and started to hide it under the pillow, “Woah he is adorable.” Will said softly as he walked over making Mackenzie stop putting it farther under the pillow.

Her eyes looked up at Will and she looked nervous making him frown slightly before looking at her stuff animal and he slowly put his hand out towards the stuff animal and she slowly nodded. Will gently picked up the stuff animal, it was a blue shark and he could tell it is well loved.

“It’s very cute.” Will spoke to her softly, he thought it was adorable she had it with her and it reminded him of the pile of stuff animals he has back at home.

“Really?” Mackenzie looked very surprised, he wasn’t calling her childish or telling her to get rid of it, “It’s not weird i still have it being eighteen?” Mackenzie nervously asked fiddling with rings anxiously.

Will’s head snapped up to look at her and he gave her seriously look, “Of course not. Why shouldn’t you have one? Stuff animals are for everyone.” Will firmly told her and watched as her whole face softened and she smiled at him.

Mackenzie felt her fondness grow even more for Will, he didn’t care she still had her childhood stuff animal with her, unlike Jackson who did care.

“Is it a he?” Will raised an eyebrow playfully guessing the gender making Mackenzie giggle and nod making him smile proudly.

“What’s his name?” Will asked kindly as Mackenzie sat on her bed and she smiled patting the spot next to her telling Will he could sit next to her and he smiled more and sat down next to her.

“Sharky.” Mackenzie said watching with soft eyes seeing how gently Will held her stuff animal, she blushed slightly at the name that her five year old self choose, “I was really young when i got him and i got him when i came to San Jose for the first time ever.”

“I like it.” Will smiled at her, “Sharky very fitting.” Will teased because they were technically both sharks now.

“Yeah yeah.” Mackenzie fondly rolled her eyes at his teasing but still smiling at him.

“Thanks for being cool about this Will.” Mackenzie softly thanked him giving him a thankful smile.

“What’s there to be cool about, Sharky’s awesome.” Will playfully held the shark stuff animal closer to him with silly smile making Mackenzie’s shoulders shake with laughter and Will smiled even more hearing her laughing.

Will softly patted her arm and gave her the shark back up before he headed to the bathroom first after asking her, to get ready for the team dinner.

Mackenzie watched him walk into the bathroom and heard the shower turn on before she grabbed her phone and immediately called Cole.

“He likes Sharky!” Mackenzie exclaimed the second Cole answered the facetime.

“Huh?” Cole asked confused rubbing his face.

“Will! He likes Sharky.” Mackenzie repeated and she was beaming as she told Cole.

Cole’s face softened seeing how happy she looked and it was nice seeing how truly happy Mackenzie has been the last few weeks and it was all because of Will.

Cole listened with a fond smile as Mackenzie told him everything about Will and her stuff animal and he knew for sure that Will and Mackenzie will end up dating and he knows Will will treat her exactly how she deserves.

Mackenzie said her byes to Cole hearing Will finish up in the shower.

Cole immediately started texting Connor letting Connor know everything Mackenzie just told him and Connor immediately agreed that Will and Mackenzie are gonna get together soon. Cole being Cole started making a bet with Connor for when Will and Mackenzie get together. Cole said by October and Connor said November the earliest.

golden gate bridge

September 23, 2024

Mackenzie walked out of the Thornton house wearing a simple pair of blue jeans, a green shirt and a white bomber jacket. She walked to Will’s car and got in and smiled seeing a dunkin coffee for her.

They had an off day for training camp today and Will had said he wanted to see something in San Jose so Mackenzie told him they should see the Golden Gate Bridge because everyone visiting or living in San Jose should go see the bridge.

Will smiled and said hi to Mackenize and he handed over the aux cord letting her pick the music, he actually didn’t mind letting her pick the music because they listen to a lot of the same music.

Will started driving them and they yapped for a lot of the drive but also listened to music too. It took them a little under an hour to get to the bridge and Mackenzie explained to Will what he should do. 
Will pulled into the line of cars and they started driving on the Golden Gate Bridge. Will looked around in awe, Boston obviously has so many bridges and he’s been on all of them but there was something really cool about the Golden Gate Bridge.

Will got lucky because the bridge was backed up with traffic so it took even longer to drive across the entire bridge and he got to look around more.

“We will have to come another time to run it.” Mackenzie told Will after she turned her phone off after she took a picture of Will looking out the window.

Will looked away from the window and at Mackenzie, “You can run it?” Will asked and he realized he could see some people walking and biking on the edges of the bridge.

“Yeah my Dad would have Aiden and i run all the way across and all the way back.” Mackenzie explained, that was a workout that was brutal.

Will reached the end of the bridge and Mackenzie directed him where to go and he turned left going up a road and pulled into a parking where a few other cars are.

“Come on.” Mackenzie grinned over her shoulder at Will as she hopped out of the car and headed toward the look out point at the edge of the parking lot.

Will quickly followed behind her and looked around in awe, “Woah.” Will mumbled as he looked over the look out point and you could see the whole bridge, the bay and San Francisco.

“Isn’t it cool.” Mackenzie hummed softly standing right next to Will, this was one of her favorite places to look out at and she use to beg her parents or Aiden to drive her out here.

“Really cool.” Will agreed and looked over at her seeing her smiling with her eyes closed looking peaceful as the wind hit her face.

Will took out his phone and took some pictures before he nudged her softly and she opened her eyes seeing him holding up his phone for a picture and she leaned closer resting her head on his shoulder and smiled at the camera.

Mackenzie and Will sat down on one of the ledges and just looked out together for a while.

Mackenzie stood up after a long while of sitting on the ledge and Will stood up with her, “Come on come look at this.” Mackenzie grabbed his hand and Will easily let her pull him to a fence that was filled with locks.

“Here’s mine.” Mackenzie showed Will an older little blue lock that she wrote Mack and the date her family moved down to San Jose.

Will smiled softly seeing how old the lock was and the handwriting was adorable especially the little shark drawing, he took a quick photo of the lock when Mackenzie looked away.

“There’s so many.” Will looked around at all of the locks, he has seen many fences filled with locks but nothing like this.

“And there is about to be one more.” Mackenzie grinned holding up a lock that she brought from will and handed him the red lock with a pen, “It’s a tradition. You live here now.” Mackenzie encouraged with a gentle smile.

Will shook his head fondly and grabbed the lock, He decided to write his first name and the year and glanced at Mackenzie and added a tiny WS and a MC next to it.

He smiled to himself and glanced once more at Mackenzie peaceful face and knew it was the right choice to add her initials.

“Finished?” Mackenzie asked as Will put the cap back on the pen and Will nodded, “Put it wherever you want.” Mackenzie told Will and watched as he clipped his lock right on her lock and her eyes softened and he looked back at her with a smile.

Will didn’t know the fence is called locks of love and a lot of couples put locks on together.

Will has denied it for years since the moment he knew Mackenzie committed to Boston University but he was lying to himself, He’s liked Mackenzie for years now and he doesn’t want to deny it anymore.

Watching her smile at him with a certain fondness he is sure he doesn’t deserve after he treated her, he knew he wasn’t gonna deny it anymore. Will Smith likes Mackenzie Celebrini, more than just a teammate.

That thought scared him a lot less than he thought it would.

Will laughed fondly hearing Mackenzie stomach rumble over the wind and shook his head ignoring his thoughts for bow and rested his hand on her lower back, “Let’s go get some food Mack.” He watched her sheepishly smile but nod.

Will and Mackenzie headed back to his car and Will opened the door for her making her glance at his for a second and shook her head smiling slightly and getting into the car.

“Where are we eating?” Will asked her as he turned the car and he knew she knows all the spots around here.

“Turn right up there.” Mackenzie told Will and she directed Will to one of her favorite little burger shack right on the beach and it’s somewhere she always goes after going to the bridge with her family.

Will and Mackenzie got out of his car and walked up to the little shack right on the beach, “If we share one fry is it still in our diet?” Mackenzie asked cheekily making Will laugh.

“I think it will be fine.” Will nodded very seriously with a teasing smile making Mackenzie beam.

“What about a milkshake?” Mackenzie asked with another mischievous smile.

“Hmm as long as it’s Oreo.” Will playfully responded making Mackenzie giggle.

Mackenzie and Will both ordered a burger and one side of regular french fries and a Oreo shake.

Will gently moved her hand way when she tried to pay, “My treat.” Will gave her a look and swiped his card.

“Fine but i pay next time.” Mackenzie gave him a look back.

Will tried to bite back a smile at her words next time and he knew he wouldn’t be paying next time.

Mackenzie and Will found a seat on the beach just as the sun was starting to set.

It was perfect their food came out as the sun was filled with oranges, pinks and purples.

Will watched Makenzie put two straws into their shake and the basket of fries was in the middle of them as they bit started eating.

Mackenzie had her head leaning back against her stall closing her eyes after a long practice.

She wasn’t rushing to get out of her hockey equipment because Joe was her ride and he had a meeting right now so she would be here for a little while longer.

She had just moved into Joe’s house last night and stayed there for the first time yesterday.

Will softly tossed a roll of her tape at Mackenzie making the roll fall onto her lap and she opened her eyes looking down and then at Will seeing him grinning at her from his stall next to her stall, “Yeah?” Mackenzie asked.

“You still don’t have your drivers licenses right?” Will asked with a teasing smile but genuine curiousness wanting to know.

“No i don’t.” Mackenzie responded, she had her permit but she wasn’t in a rush to get her drivers license and she will just take her test before her permit expires.

“You need a ride tomorrow?” Will asked her as he just moved in with the Marleau’s and he had his car now.

“Uh you don’t mind?” Mackenzie raised an eyebrow, she hasn’t really thought about how she’s gonna get to everything yet because Joe can’t drive her to everything.

“Not at all it’s on the way.” Will easily smiled making her slowly nod.

“Okay thanks Will.” Mackenzie smiled, he definitely didn’t have to pick her up and he drive her but he is anyways.

“Of course Mack.” Will just smiled shrugging.

Will ended up staying with Mackenzie the entire time as she waited for Joe and he took his time getting out his equipment to spend time with Mackenzie.

They walked out of the locker room together and headed to one of the lounges getting comfortable on the couch together and started watching tik toks on Will’s phone together until Joe finished his meeting.

Joe walked out of the meeting and raised a knowing eyebrow seeing Mackenzie and Will both leaning into each other watching Will’s phone.

Will was pulling through the Dunkin’ donuts drive thru and thanked the barista as she handed him the drinks and food and he pulled out just as his phone started ringing.

Will glanced at the screen on his car dash screen seeing Ryan calling him and he answered the call.

“Smitty!” Ryan cheered from his and Gabe’s dorm room sitting on the couch with Gabe.

“Smitty!” Gabe piped in too.

“Hi.” Will grinned talking to his best friends.

Will started talking with the two before Ryan asked him where he was heading.

“Oh i’m picking you up Mack.” Will told them as he turned on his blinker on.

“Mack huh?” Ryan raised an eyebrow and smirked at Gabe excitedly.

Gabe just rolled his eyes at Ryan’s excitement, Ryan has been talking for so long that Ryan thinks Will has feelings for Mackenzie and they should start dating. Gabe wouldn’t disagree with Will having feelings because it is obviously Will does but Ryan is obsessed with Will and Mackenzie getting together.

“Yeah Mack?” Will spoke warily back after hearing Ryan’s tone.

“Say hi to her us.” Gabe interrupted Ryan before he could say anything else.

“Course i’ll talk to you guys later.” Will said bye to his two best friends and hung up.

Will pulled up to the front of the Thorton’s house and texted Mackenzie he was outside. Will just scrolled on his phone for a few minutes until he heard the front door opening and saw Mackenzie putting her hair up into a high ponytail as she walked down the front steps.

Mackenzie smiled as she made eye contact with Will making him smile back and watch as she walked over and opened up the passenger front door before getting into Will’s car.

“Morning.” Will smiled and handed her the ice coffee he got for her and the bag holding four bagel bites and one bag with one rainbow sprinkle donut hole.

“Morning!” Mackenzie smiled at him before looking at what he was handing her, “For me?” Mackenzie looked surprised as she slowly took the coffee and the two food bags.

“Who else.” Will teased softly watching her smile to herself, “A ridiculously sweet ice coffee, four bagel bites and one rainbow sprinkle donut hole.” Will told her watching fondly as she looked at everything.

“You remembered my order?” Mackenzie looked shocked but touched, she’s always had complicated orders and no matter where she goes rarely anyone ever gets her full order correct and her family just kinda knew her coffee order that crossed over at multiple places.

“Mack we went to Dunkin together?” Will smiled confused why she is so surprised, how could he not remember her slightly complicated order.

“Only once.” Mackenzie mumbled still looking at him surprised, “Thank you though Will really.” She gave him an appreciative smile.

“Of course.” Will smiled back and turned the car back on.

“I know you like Starbucks better but if i’m getting coffee you will drink Dunkin.” Will playfully told her with a serious expression and she just laughed making Will crack another smile.

“Deal.” Mackenzie easily agreed, she might even like Dunkin a bit more than Starbucks but she won’t tell him that yet.

Mackenzie made a happy sound as she took the first sip of her very sweet iced coffee, it was perfect.

Mackenzie started happily munching on her bagel bites and that would surprise anyone who knew Will because Will never lets anyone ever eat in his car but he didn’t even say anything to Mackenzie as he didn’t mind her eating in his car.

“Thanks for the ride Will.” Makenzie softly spoke as she ate her rainbow sprinkle donut hole.

“Anytime.” Will smiled softly glancing at her seeing how comfortable she looked in his passenger seat and glanced back at the road, “Same time tomorrow?” Will honestly just wanted as much time as he could get with Mackenzie and driving her would give them so much time together.

“Sure.” Makenzie agreed, looks like she wouldn’t have to find a ride anymore.

Mackenzie bit her lip as she hesitated to click on Aiden’s contact, she knew Cole was right and she need to tell Aiden she broke up with Jackson.

Mackenzie took a deep breath before clicking on the facetime.

Aiden answered immediately and was smiling, “Zie!” Aiden happily exclaimed he hasn’t talked to his sister in a few days which is odd because they usually talk everyday but she’s been avoiding him the last few days.

“Hi.” Mackenzie smiled slightly back.

“What’s wrong?” Aiden asked immediately knowing something is off with his sister.

“Uh.” Mackenzie hesitated not knowing how to tell him.

“Mackenzie you can tell me anything.” Aiden firmly reassured her giving her an encouraging look.

“I broke up with Jackson.” Mackenzie quickly blurted out.

Aiden blinked looking extremely surprised, “Oh? I thought everything was going well?” Aiden thought it made sense with how Mackenzie and Jackson both have been barely responding to him the last few days.

“Um no it was not going well.” Mackenzie quietly admitted, “He’s been cheating on me the entire relationship.” Mackenzie swallowed dryly letting out a sad breath.

“He has been what!” Aiden loudly spoke looking extremely pissed.

Mackenzie just shrugged fiddling with her comforter as she sat on her bed, “He said it’s because i wouldn’t sleep with him he needed to find things with other people.”

“That asshole!” Aiden cursed looking furious.

Mackenzie looked up surprised and Aiden noticed her surprise and felt a pinch of guilt realizing she didn’t expect him to be angry at Jackson.

“Zie you are my sister i’m always your side. I don’t care about him i have other friends but i only have one Zie.” Aiden softly told her, he felt terrible realizing she didn’t expect him to be on her side and he hopped that she didn’t tell him things about her relationship because of this.

Mackenzie let out a shuttering breath, not knowing how much she needed to hear those words from her brother.

“I would never stay friends with someone who had hurt my sister okay.” Aiden reassured her and she softly nodded, “And i am not mad to lose the friendship and it is not your fault it only Jackson’s fault.” Aiden continued to reassure his little sister.

Mackenzie nodded and smiled slightly.

“Did he do anything else?” Aiden asked protectively.

“Kinda but i just don’t want to talk about it yet.” Mackenzie muttered uncomfortably.

Aiden hesitantly nodded but accepted her wishes, “Okay.”

Aiden and Mackenzie talked a bit longer before hanging up.

Aiden immediately clicked on Jackson’s contact calling him.

“Hey Aiden.” Jackson’s smug voice came through the phone.

“Listen here you asshole.” Aiden harshly snapped, “You are never going to contact Mackenzie ever again. You are going to lose her number and leave her the hell alone. You sure as hell will never be seeing be me again unless it’s on the ice and i won’t hesitate to beat the shit out of you after what you did to my sister. I want nothing to do with you ever again.” Aiden snapped before hanging up and blocking Jackson’s contact.

Mackenzie ran a hand across her hair that she just lightly curled and it’s the closest to her curly hair she will do.

Mackenzie was wearing a black mini skirt, a white long sleeve sweater, a red leather jacket and black knee high boots.

Mackenzie was going out with most of her team as they have a night off and we’re going to a party in Boston.

Mackenzie walked into the house that was packed with people and she took a deep breath.

Mackenzie was walking in between Lane and Aiden and she groaned slightly seeing BC players specifically seeing Will across the room immediately.

Mackenzie thought he looked good and his hair was very curly today.

Mackenzie looked at Will and watched him look over and right at her.

Will’s breath got caught in his throat as he saw Mackenzie. She looked beautiful, her hair looked perfect on her being curled and he’s never seen her out of anything hockey related and he swallowed dryly trying to not stare at her anymore, “I need a drink.” Will muttered and turned around walking away from Gabe and Ryan.

“I thought you weren’t drinking tonight?” Gabe asked looking at him concerned.

“Then he saw Celebrini.” Ryan smirked making Will not turn around but flip off Ryan and Ryan started laughing.

Mackenzie tried to enjoy the party with her teammates and brother and kept glancing at Will noticing he was getting more drunk through the night.

Mackenzie walked away from her team and headed up to the stairs to try and find the bathroom.

Mackenzie opened a door and saw a room with a lot of couches and saw Will sprawled out on a couch covering his face with his arm.

“Smith?” Mackenzie asked with concern as she closed the door behind her and walked closer to Will.

“Celebrini!” Will uncovered his face looking at Mackenzie with a wide sunshine smile, a smile that he has never given Mackenzie before.

“Are you okay?” Mackenzie looked worried as she stopped in front of Will.

Will quickly say up wobbling like crazy and Mackenzie quickly steadied him and stopped him from falling over, “I’m better now.” Will’s voiced slurred with a bright smile.

“Sit please?” Will looked up at Mackenzie with his puppy eyes as he patted the spot next to him on the couch.

Mackenzie slowly nodded and sat down next to and Will immediately scooted closer to Mackenzie looking at her.

“I really want to kiss you.” Will mumbled making Mackenzie’s eyes widened, “But i can’t kiss you because you’re my rival, even if you are my prettiest rival.” Will’s continued to mumble making Mackenzie blush bright pink, “See so pretty.” Will mumbled again.

Mackenzie was confused where this was all coming from, he just called her his prettiest rival.

Will leaned closer to her just starring at her in awe making Mackenzie quickly back away not wanting to kiss him when he is so drunk and he can’t consent but also he’s only treated her like a rival so she knows he doesn’t actually like and definitely does not wants to kiss her.

“Alright let’s go find your friends.” Mackenzie told her standing up and helping Will up.

Mackenzie froze as Will wrapped an arm around her waist and immediately leaned into her side leaning all of his weight on her.

“Okay.” Mackenzie let out a shaky breath and began guiding Will out of the room and down the stairs.

Mackenzie let out a sigh of relief seeing Gabe and Ryan and knew that’s who she should bring Will to, “Leonard! Perreault!” Mackenzie called out as she walked over to them.

Ryan and Gabe turned confused by who was calling them and they saw Mackenzie walking over with a very drunk Will leaning on her. Gabe raised a high eyebrow as Ryan started smirking.

“He’s really drunk.” Mackenzie stated, “Thought it might be a good idea to get him to you two.”

“Thanks Celebrini.” Gabe smiled at Mackenzie because she definitely didn’t need to do this but she did.

“Course.” Mackenzie smiled back and tried to get Will to let go of her and hand him to Will.

“No nooo.” Will whined clinging to Mackenzie, “Pretty rival.”

Mackenzie blushed more as she saw the look between Gabe and Ryan. Ryan smirked he was never letting Will forget this.

Aiden walked over and looked confused why Smith was clinging to his sister and calling her pretty rival.

“Come on Smith.” Mackenzie mumbled and gently pried Will off her ignoring his whine and sad mumbles and handed Will off to Gabe and Ryan.

“It was nice to officially meet you Celebrini.” Gabe stated with a soft smile as Will leaned on Gabe and Ryan held him up. Ryan nodded in agreement.

“Nice to meet you too.” Mackenzie grinned slightly.

“Thank you.” Ryan nodded at Mackenzie and she nodded softly back and Ryan shared an amused look with Aiden before helping Gabe to take Will back to his dorm.

Will groaned as he woke up covering his face with the blanket as his whole head throbbed and he couldn’t even remember anything from last night or how he ended up here.

“Well good morning sleeping beauty.” Ryan smirked as he teased Will from where he was sitting on the couch in the dorm with Gabe.

Will just grumbled burying his head into the bed squeezing his eyes shut.

“What had to much to drink?” Ryan teased laughing again.

Gabe rolled his eyes fondly and smacked Ryan softly as he stood and grabbed a bottle of water and Advil for Will and walked over setting the next to Will, “Drink up Smitty.” Gabe softened his voice to his best friend.

Will put his hand out of his blankets and grabbed the pillows stuffing them in his mouth and bringing the bottle under his blanket and quickly drank half the water bottle.

“Well you had an interesting night.” Ryan told Will making Will just grunt, “Especially with Celebrini bringing you to us and you wouldn’t let go of her.”

Ryan’s words made Will immediately sit up looking at Ryan shocked, “What.”

“Oh yeah you were clinging to her.” Ryan answered amused snickering softly

Will rubbed his face and looked at Gabe for confirmation making sure this isn’t just Ryan messing with him and Gabe nodded smiling slightly amused.

Will groaned flopping back on the bed and covering his face, “Fuck.” Will didn’t remember anything after seeing Mackenzie walk into the house.

Mackenzie stayed close to her older brother Aiden as they walked into their new school, Shattuck-St. Mary's. Mackenzie got lucky and she would be here with her brother even if she most likely wouldn’t get to see him to much because of Covid and she was going to be quarantined with her hockey team.

Mackenzie tucked a piece of her curly hair behind her ear fixing her mask.

Mackenzie thought it was a bit weird being here without their parents and only with Aiden especially because they flew here alone and the airport was extremely empty.

Mackenzie didn’t ask but she was a bit lost at how Aiden seemed to know exactly where he was going but she was going to admit that to him.

Aiden found the office they had to check into and Mackenzie grunted as Aiden stopped pushing the cart holding all of their stuff and she ran into the cart slightly.

Mackenzie narrowed her eyes seeing Aiden’s eyes crinkle and knew he was smiling because he did it on purpose.

Aiden being the responsible brother and sixteen year old checked them in and got both of their information from everything including where their dorms both are.

Aiden walked out of the office seeing Mackenzie on her phone and he knew she mostly likely texting Connor or their little siblings, “Come on Zie.” Aiden pulled softly on one of her curls as he walked by and she got up off the cart and helped him push the cart.

“Are we close to each other?” Mackenzie asked hopefully as Aiden guided the cart to her down room first.

“A bit but we probably won’t be able to see each other for a bit.” Aiden explained frowning sadly, they were luckily with quarantine they were able to come to school and play hockey and he had no idea how much they would be able to see each other.

Mackenzie frowned but nodded understanding why.

Aiden guided them to her dorm room and stopped the cart in front of the door of her dorm.

Aiden started taking Mackenzie’s things off the cart setting them down on the floor in front of the door.

Mackenzie frowned as Aiden placed her last bag down and off the car.

Aiden smiled sadly seeing her sadness and opened up his arms letting his little sister fall into his arms, “Hey we can face time whenever and i’m sure soon we will he able to see each other.” Aiden tried to cheer his little sister up.

“Yeah.” Mackenzie mumbled and just clung to her brother a big tighter before letting out a long sigh and letting go of her him and stepping back.

“I’ll see you soon Aid.” Mackenzie tried to smile under her mask as she watched Aiden’s eyes crinkle back and he nodded before turning around and pushing the cart away and away from her.

Macklin let out another long sigh before a squaring her shoulders and stepping inside her dorm room dragging her bags with her and she noticed her room mate was already inside.

Her roommates side was a mess and he was just chilling on his bed.

He jumped off the bed when he heard someone walk in and he didn’t even seem fazed it was a girl, “Hi i’m Cole.” Cole kindly smiled holding a hand out for her to shake.

“I’m Mack.” Mackenzie smiled back taking her mask off and shaking his hand back.

“Here let me help you.” Cole kindly offered and grabbed her giant hockey brining inside there dorm setting it next to his hockey bag.

“Thanks.” Macklin smiled appreciatively as she brought her two big suit cases into her dorm and took her backpack off setting it on her bed.

“You haven’t unpacked?” Macklin asked with a small smirk looking at Cole’s stuff just all over his side of his room.

Cole laughed sheepishly rubbing the back of his head, “It’s a lot of work.” Cole may of been here for a few hours already and just made his bed that it’s.

“Yeah it is.” Mackenzie grimaced looking at all her stuff not really wanting to unpack but she would be grateful later if she did it now.

Mackenzie tossed one of her suitcases down and started opening it, she grabbed out all the bedding for her bed that was vacuum sealed and opened the bags on her bed.

“Are you going to unpack now?” Cole titled his head curiously like a puppy.

“Might as well.” Mackenzie shrugged making him nod and he hopped off his bed opening his suitcase too.

Mackenzie made her bed then unpacked her clothes putting them in her closet and dresser before pulling out her school things and books setting them on her desk and pulled out a few sentimental things.

First a stuffed shark, whose name is sharky that she got the first time she ever went to San Jose with her family when she was very young.

A few picture frames with pictures of her family and a picture of the puppy they had just got after they moved to California.

Mackenzie slid her suitcases under her bed and let out a sigh as she flopped onto her bed hugging her shark stuffed animal.

Mackenzie looked over seeing Cole just finished up unpacking and putting his empty bags away too before he jumped onto his bed.

“Do you like Mario Kart?” Cole asked very seriously as he turned over and looked across the room to her lying on her bed.

“Of course i like mario kart.” Mackenzie scoffed playfully with a small grin, that’s one of her favorite games to play with her siblings.

“We’re gonna be best friends.” Cole declared with a wide smile as he got up and grabbed his nintendo switch.

Mackenzie grinned as she reached over to her back pack next to her bed and grabbed her nintendo switch making Cole smile even more.

“Can I?” Cole asked politely gesturing to the spot next to her on her bed and she nodded making him grab his pillow and walk to her bed hopping next to her and putting the pillow behind his back and they started playing mario kart together.

Mackenzie sat on her couch waiting for her facetime to be answered, Will and her have been facetiming a lot with her being still in San Jose and Will with the Sharks on a road trip, it was a bit weird to both of them to be apart after spending everyday together for weeks.

“Hi Mack.” Will smiled at the screen the second he saw her face, he was laying in bed in the hotel in Winnipeg before he had to get ready for his game, they were also heading home after the game tonight.

“Hi!” Mackenzie smiled and they started just chatting for a good while.

“Okay i have to get ready now.” Will told her looking at the clock.

“Okay, Oh uh one last thing i know you’re gonna be tired so you definitely don’t have to and you can say no but is there anyway you could drive me somewhere tomorrow? it is a few minutes away and Joe and Tabea are both gone tomorrow and can’t give me a ride and Charlie has a meet and my parents can’t make it and i don’t her to be alone and.” Mackenzie quickly rambled out looking nervous expecting him to say no.

“Mack.” Will gently cut her off making her slowly stop talking and look at him seeing him smiling reassuring, “Of course i can drive you.” Will does not care losing some sleep to spend time with Mackenzie.

“Really?” Mackenzie looked incredibly shocked he said yes.

“Of course, as long as i can stay and watch too? If i’m allowed too?” Will asked hoping he could stay because one spending more time with Mackenzie and two he has never really watched a tennis match before and Charlie seemed to love to talk about her sport at dinner and he wanted to learn more about it.

“You want to come?” Mackenzie said softly looking so incredibly touched, Her ex never once asked about anything for her siblings let alone ask to go see them.

“Of course.” Will smiled.

“Yeah you can definitely come.” Mackenzie smiled nodding back.

They said their byes and hung up the facetime.

Mackenzie closed the door behind her, she walked down the driveway seeing Will waiting for her.

Will blinked looking at Mackenzie, she was wearing a pair of white linen pants and a cropped pink floral t-shirt and her hair was just straight and down, she looked beautiful, he’s never seen her in pink before but he loved it.

“Hi!” Mackenzie smiled seeing Will and she got in the car and leaned over gently hugging him, she had missed him the last week he has been gone.

Will paused in slight shock but eagerly hugged her back his eyes closing content, “Hi.” Will warmed spoke back smiling at her as they pulled away.

He watched her perk the way she always does when she sees her Dunkin order that he always gets her.

Will started the drive having got the address from Mackenzie and they started talking as always while drinking their coffees.

Will parked the car and they got out heading to the courts, his hands resting in his sweatpants as he followed Mackenzie.

Mackenzie for their wristbands and they headed in and got to their seats and sat down together.

They just chatted with each other until it was time for the first match to start.

The first match started and Will looked lost, “Okay so there is sets right?” Will leaned over and asked her looking confused.

“Yeah so someone needs to win two sets to win the match.” Mackenzie explained her eyes flickering between the match going on in front of them.

Will slowly nodded, “How do they win a set?”

“They have to be the first to win six games and to win a game you need be at least four points ahead.” Mackenzie continued to explain to Will.

Will nodded again and he continued to ask questions through the first match.

The second match was a quick one and finally the third match was Charlie’s.

Mackenzie cheered for his sister when she walked on to the court, Mackenzie always loves when she has a chance to watch her siblings play.

Will cheered with Mackenzie.

Charlie looked over and beamed seeing her sister and Mackenzie watched as Charlie smile even more seeing that Will came too.

The match started and it was obvious that Charlie is an incredible tennis player, Will easily saw the athletic resemblance of Mackenzie in Charlie.

“Oh what was that?” Will asked curiously seeing Charlie do a hit or serve or something he hasn’t seen yet.

“That’s a volley, It’s Chars favorite.” Mackenzie told Will.

She looked over during the match and saw Will eagerly watching Charlie play, her heart softened he didn’t need to drive let alone be here with her and he is not only here but truly watching and wanting to learn the sport.

Mackenzie felt a rush of emotions that she keeps feeling around Will, she isn’t that stupid she knows what the feelings are but she isn’t ready to think about the truth of her feelings and she is not ready yet to accept them, maybe soon, Will makes it easy to want to feel things for him.

Right now she is content with her friendship with Will and to just let their friendship continue to grow, for now.

Will and Mackenzie cheered loudly when Charlie won her match and both waved at Charlie.

Will and Mackenzie headed out of their seats to find Charlie after her match.
Will watched with a fond look as Charlie darted right to Mackenzie once she saw her and hugged her so tightly. Mackenzie was beaming hugging her back as they both talked so rapidly to each other.

Will has loved being able to see the older sister side of Mackenzie.

“Will!” Charlie smiled at him once she let go of Mackenzie.

“Hi Charlie you did great!” Will praised holding his hand out for a high five.

Charlie smiled even more high fiving him.

Mackenzie and Will talked with Charlie for a little bit more before Charlie had to go and they headed out to Will’s car.

“Thank you for coming.” Mackenzie softly thanked Will as they sat in his car.

“Anytime.” Will grinned being completely honest.

Mackenzie smiled at herself in the mirror, she had just gotten her hair cut really short and with some layers deciding if she is going to continue to keep her hair straight she wants to like it more.

Mackenzie looked down at her phone ringing and didn’t feel any joy seeing Jackson calling her.

She has noticed over the past three months being in Chicago she really noticed how much Jackson tried to control her life and the little comments he makes, she hasn’t missed him once since she said bye to him. Mackenzie noticed how much she’s been enjoying the little things again, things that haven’t made her happy since she started dating Jackson.

Mackenzie knew she needed to break up with Jackson, she may of really liked him once maybe she could of even started to love him and he was her first boyfriend but she knows she deserves better.

“Hi.” Mackenzie answered the call as she sat on her bed.

“What did you do to your hair?” Jackson immediately demanded looking at her through the screen.

“I cut it.” Mackenzie simply explaining.

“Why would you do that?” Jackson scoffed looking annoyed, “Babe you look like a boy.”

Mackenzie took a deep breath trying to not let Jackson’s words get to her, “Well i like it.”

“Whatever.” Jackson just scoffed again and started talking all about his day.

“I want to break up.” Mackenzie cut him off.

“What?” Jackson questioned looking at her like she is crazy, “Why the hell would you want to do that.”

“I don’t want to date you anymore.” Mackenzie tried to stay stern.

“And i didn’t want to date you when you wouldn’t sleep with me but i didn’t break up with you i just slept with someone else.” Jackson faked sympathized with her.

“You what.” Mackenzie questioned feeling lost, what does he mean he slept with someone else because she wasn’t comfortable sleeping with him yet.

“What?” Jackson just shrugged nonchalantly, “You wouldn’t give me anything i had to find others who would.”

“It’s not like we were ever exclusive.” Jackson just continued nonchalantly.

Mackenzie blinked, they weren’t exclusive? isn’t that what being boyfriend and girlfriend is? They have been dating for over a year and he’s just been sleeping with other people.

“I’m done. We’re over. Don’t ever try to contact me again.” Mackenzie firmly told him not carrying to listen to him trying to talk and hung up and immediately blocked him.

Mackenzie let out a long sigh feeling the wait coming off her shoulders but also blinked the tears out of her eyes realizing he had been cheating on her the entire time.

She should’ve seen all the signs over the year they dated but she was just excited to have a boyfriend for the first time.

Mackenzie was in the bathroom in her dorm and came out as Jackson was sitting on her bed holding her shark stuff animal.

“You keep a stuff animal?” Jackson scoffed laughing at her when he saw her coming out, “They are for children.” Jackson rolled his eyes and tossed the shark stuffed animal onto the floor like it was nothing.

“You really should get rid of it.” Jackson bluntly told her and he got comfortable on her bed not noticing Mackenzie freezing as she saw her stuff animal on the floor.

December 10, 2021

Mackenzie was full of smiles as she walked out of the locker room after her game having won in OT with Cole passing the puck to her.

She looked around and found Jackson looking on his phone looking utterly disinterested.

“Hey!” Mackenzie called out smiling as she walked over.

Jackson looked up at her and frowned, “What was that?” Jackson harshly demanded.

“What?” Mackenzie asked confused as her smile slowly faded.

“Hugging Cole on the ice like that.” Jackson practically spat out Cole’s name, “Your taken if you don’t remember.” Jackson glared down at her.

Mackenzie just shook her head looking at him, “Cole is just my friend.” Mackenzie tried to explain. She was confused where this was coming from.

“That’s what they all say.” Jackson hissed stepping away from her, “Talk to me when you want to apologize.” Jackson spat at her and walked away.

Mackenzie just watched him walk away with a frown.

Mackenzie was sitting on the boat smiling as she listens to RJ ramble to Connor about a new toy he is building.

“Honestly i don’t get why he keeps talking about it.” Jackson who was sitting next to her groaned as he scrolled on his phone.

“What?” Mackenzie whipped her head around to look at her boyfriend incredulously.

“Like he has to know how boring he sounds.” Jackson simply explained to her with no care as he just looked at his phone.

Mackenzie furrowed her eye brows as she starred at him, RJ is a child and happy, what’s wrong with that?

Mackenzie just let out sigh shaking her head as she thought about some of the things Jackson did.

She closed her eyes thinking about Jackson had been cheating on her their entire relationship, She scoffed to herself what a great first relationship she had.

Mackenzie ran a hand through her short hair and while she wanted to call Aiden and could really use her big brother right now she didn’t want to explain to Aiden how her relationship with Jackson was not perfect and she didn’t want to cause any problems with Aiden and his friendship with Jackson.

She clicked the group chat with Cole and Connor and Connor answered first and Cole answered a few minutes later and Cole seemed to be at the rink and walking away from his team.

“What’s up?” Cole asked immediately once he sat in the bleachers away from anyone else.

“I broke up with Jackson.” Mackenzie blurted out.

“Thank god.” Cole immediately chimed in with a big smile. He’s had a terrible feeling about Jackson for a while and while he doesn’t know exactly what Jackson has done with Mackenzie, Cole has seen how unhappy Mackenzie is around Jackson.

“Are you okay?” Connor immediately asked looking through the screen worriedly.

“Oh yeah are you okay?” Cole sheepishly smiled making Connor and Mackenzie both chuckle.

Mackenzie let out a long sigh, “He was cheating on me the entire time.”

“WHAT!” Cole yelled loudly and angrily waving away the looks from his teammates.

“It’s a good thing i play him soon.” Connor grumbled protectively and was looking forward to hitting Jackson with his hockey stick.

“Dude no fair i want to hit him too.” Cole whined pouting immediately thinking the same as connor and it was not fair that Connor gets to hit Jackson.

Mackenzie laughed softly at her two best friends already feeling better talking to them.

“But are you okay?” Connor asked her again smiling at her laughing.

“I think i’ll be okay.” Mackenzie answered honestly, “Feel relieved honestly.”

“That’s because i said you should break up with him.” Cole piped in with a cocky grin making Connor roll his eyes fondly as he did agree with Cole for once.

“Yeah yeah next time i’ll listen to you.” Mackenzie fondly rolled her eyes at Cole.

Mackenzie was sitting on the bench in the second period against the Minnesota Wild, it was only her second game back after her injury and her third ever NHL game.

Mackenzie smiled as Toffoli reached over and shook her helmet softly after she just scored a goal and the first goal for the Sharks and it tied the game at 1-1.

Wild unfortunately scored two more times during the second period.

Will scooted down the bench to be next to Mackenzie and bumped her gently making her look at him and he smiled brightly at her and made a silly face making her laugh loudly even though they were loosing just as the buzzer went off for the end of the second period.

Mackenzie and Will walked down the tunnel and headed to the locker room and to their stalls that are always going to be next to each other.

Mackenzie and Will might up spent the most of the intermission yapping to each other whenever their coach finished talking.

They headed out of the started of the third period and unfortunately the Wild scored again.

Mackenzie went out on her next shift and got the puck from Granlund and shot the puck getting her second goal of the game and the second goal for the sharks.

Mackenzie skated in front of the bench high fiving but shared a fist bump and smile with Will.

Even with Mackenzie’s goal they were still down 2-4 with four minutes left and the Wild were a hard team to beat especially with their incredible goalies.

There was a commercial break and the staff was fixing a piece of the glass that broke.

Mackenzie was sitting on the bench as Will skated to the boards as he was on the ice when the glass broke, Mackenzie tossed him a bottle making him smile thankful.

Mackenzie laughed at something Will said and it shocked her realizing how much Will makes hockey fun again, he made her laugh so easily even though they are loosing horrible.

Will made hockey even more enjoyable again and it didn’t have to be so serious all the time, she could enjoy playing in the NHL and laughing on the ice with her Will.

Will beamed brightly at her laugh looking at her with his heart eyes revered only for her.

Mackenzie snickered as Will was leaning on the boards and leaned closer to her making their visors touch as Will whispered to her, they were gossiping to each other.

They didn’t realize the amount of cameras filming them laughing with each other. Ryan was watching the game and immediately saw Mackenzie and Will laughing with each other and the look on Will’s face that he knows is Will’s flirting face.

Ryan found a video on twitter and sent it to the group chat.

Mackenzie nodded along to the music playing in Will’s car as they drove to the restaurant for dinner.

Mackenzie’s family was coming to dinner and Will’s family was too.

Will’s family had got to San Jose just yesterday and Will spent all of yesterday and most of today with them. Will’s mom instead they have a dinner with Mackenzie’s family.

Will parked his car and hoped out of the car quickly before Mackenzie could get out and he opened the door for her.

Mackenzie shook her head fondly and got out of the car slipping her leather jacket over her jean skirt, white sweater and black tall boots.

Mackenzie and Will walked into the restaurant and was brought over to the back private room where Will’s family already was.

Colleen, Grace and Bill all looked up as the door opened and Will and Mackenzie walked in and they were laughing with each other and the three of them immediately saw how Will was looking at her.

Colleen got up smiling as she walked over to them, “It is so nice to officially meet you Mackenzie.” She beamed setting a soft hand on Mackenzies arm, She knows Will is going to end up with Mackenzie.

“It’s nice to meet you too Mrs. Smith.” Mackenzie kindly said back letting out a relieved breath because she was slightly nervous to meet Will’s family officially.

“Colleen dear.” Colleen corrected her making Mackenzie smile and nod.

Bill and Mackenzie shared a few words and a laugh that made Will look away from his mom to his dad and Mackenzie.

“It’s amazing to finally meet you!” Grace beamed ad she grabbed one of Mackenzie’s hand, she had been hearing more and more about Mackenzie everyday from Will.

“It is great to meet you, Will always talks about you.” Mackenzie teased slightly making Grace perk up. Mackenzie was the most nervous to meet Grace knowing how important she is to Will.

“Does he?” Grace smirked sharing a mischievous look with Mackenzie.

“Why did i introduce you two.” Will groaned hiding his smile seeing how well his sister and Mackenzie are getting a long.

Grace and Mackenzie shared a a look laughing before they all started to sit down.

Will immediately took the seat next to grace and pulled out the sets next to him for Mackenzie and there was empty seats next to her for her family.

It only took a few minutes before Mackenzie’s family walked in and Mackenzie immediately got up and was tackled in a hug by Charlie and Rj, “Hi little siblings.” Mackenzie’s voice softened and she pressed a kiss to both of their head.

“Macky!” Rj cheered clinging to her.

“Hi Macky.” Charlie softly whispered smiling happily to see her sister.

“Alright i want to hug my sister too.” Aiden teased as the two youngest wouldn’t let go of Mackenzie.

Mackenzie lifted her head looking shocked she didn’t know Aiden came out from Boston for her first game tomorrow, she didn’t expect him to.

Rj let out the longest dramatic sigh but let go of his sister with Charlie.

“Hey Zie.” Aiden grinned pulling his best friend into a hug. He planned to always come out for her first game but when she thought he wasn’t going to be able to make it he knew he was going surprise her

“Aids.” Mackenzie smiled looking so happy to see him and happily squeezing him back, “You came!”

“Of course i did, it’s your first game tomorrow.” Aiden smiled pressing a kiss to the top of his sister’s head.

Mackenzie smiled at Aiden and pulled back quickly getting pulled into a hug by her Mom and Dad.

“Will this is Mom Robyn and my Dad Rick, you know Aiden and this is Charlie and Rj.” Mackenzie happily introduced Will to her family hoping they all get along.

Will immediately shook Robyn and Rick’s hand smiling and then he nodded kindly at Aiden before Rj started asking him questions and Will happily was answering them.

Mackenzie’s eyes soften seeing Will immediately getting along with Rj.

Makenzie introduced the rest of the Smith family to her family before they all sat down.

Charlie sat down next to Mackenzie and Rj next to Charlie.

Will was telling the table something that happened at practice.

“Don’t forget when you tripped and got a bloody nose.” Mackenzie piped in with a mischievous grin making Will groan.

“Mackenzie!” Will groaned shooting her a look not truthfully minding her calling him out because she is getting along with his family so easily.

“Did he really?” Bill asked laughing loving Mackenzie calling out Will. Bill hoped Will would one day be telling them Mackenzie is his girlfriend.

“He did.” Mackenzie confirmed making Grace and Bill laugh and Colleen smiled shaking her head.

Aiden watched with a soft smile seeing Mackenzie throw her head back laughing at something Will said and she leaned into Will and Will looked at her with the biggest heart eyes, Aiden knew Will was the one for Mackenzie. He couldn’t wait to tell Connor, Cole and Ryan about everything he’s noticed between Will and Mackenzie.

The food came out and Will ordered fries with his dinner this time and he just shook his head fondly as Mackenzie took some of his fries. Grace and Colleen shared a surprised look usually Will never lets anyone take his food.

Rick watched with an approving gaze seeing how happy Mackenzie is around Will. He wasn’t stupid and knew Mackenzie’s past relationship with Jackson didn’t end well especially with how protective Aiden is and how much Aiden seems to hate Jackson now. Rick honestly never liked Jackson at all always thought soothing was off but Will, Rick really likes Will and he likes how much Will makes Mackenzie smile.

Mackenzie smiled to herself seeing how much Rj and Charlie like Will and how patient Will is answering their questions, Charlie doesn’t usually like everyone this quickly.

Mackenzie stood up going to head to the bathroom and fondly rolled her eyes at Will’s worried look she just set a hand on his shoulder quickly.

“I’ll go too.” Grace smiled standing up and she raised an eyebrow seeing Will’s relieved look, Will seems to be protective over Mackenzie.

Mackenzie and Grace walked out of the room and headed to the bathroom.

Grace waited till Mackenzie was washing her hands to ask, “He’s treating you right? I worked hard to make sure Will is respectful to woman and a gentleman not an asshole.”

“He’s great.” Mackenzie smiled to herself thinking about Will and how he treats her with so much respect, Grace smiled slightly seeing the smile on Mackenzie’s face thinking about Will.

“Good because i want you a sticking around.” Grace smiled at Mackenzie as walked out of the bathroom.

Mackenzie smiled softly back her cheeks warming up at Grace’s kind words, she has never really been close to another girl before as she is usually just around her teammates.

“Besides it will be nice to have a sister, i always wanted one but i got stuck with Will so i made sure he knew how to treat a girl right so i got a sister.” Grace hinted to the fact that she knows Will and Mackenzie will end up together and sooner than later Mackenzie will officially be apart of the family.

Mackenzie laughed softly at her words, she understood what Grace meant as she got lucky getting a younger sister firm Charlie, “I’ve never had an older sister or any girl friends before.” Mackenzie softly admitted.

“Well you have one now.” Grace smiled softly at her and linked their arms, “Besides you are the best thing for him so you’re stuck with us now.” Grace teased but was being serious she has noticed how happy Will is with Mackenzie.

Mackenzie smiled but her mind was stuck on Graces words that she was the best thing for Will, she just shook off her thoughts for now.

Will looked up and his smile soften seeing Mackenzie and Grace chatting and smiling with each other.

Mackenzie caught her breath in between her shifts sitting on the bench, it was her first preseason game against Utah.

It was already the second period and she hopped over the board for her next shift and was skating down the ice when her feet got tripped up and she fell to the ice sliding towards the boards and her hip slammed into the board.

She bit her lip as her whole lower body lower ached and was tingling in pain as she curled into a little ball and closed her eyes cursing to herself, that didn’t feel right.

Mackenzie slowly got up and nodded at the trainers looking at her from across the ice from the bench, something wasn’t right.

Mackenzie gingerly skated to the bench taking her time to get off the ice and immediately was swept up by the trainers and brought down the tunnel not seeing Will looking at her concerned and he watching her until she was out of his sight.

Mackenzie was checked out at the trainer room and wasn’t allowed to head back into the game and she was going to get a better check later tomorrow when they have a practice so she headed into the locker room seeing the third period almost done and headed to the showers.

Mackenzie is disappointed because she knows her body and she knows this injury isn’t going away quickly. She hopes she doesn’t have to miss out the first game or any games.

Mackenzie was sitting oddly in her stall in sweatpants and teal sharks hoodie by the time the team came in.

Will immediately went right to her looking extremely concerned, “Are you okay? Are you in pain?” Will immediately rambled out kneeling down in front of her stall.

“A little pain.” Mackenzie whispered quietly not wanting the whole locker room to hear, “They are doing a full check tomorrow.” Mackenzie told him.

Will nodded his shoulders loosening slightly, “I’ll go get dressed and then we can go.” Will quickly got up and started taking his equipment off.

They didn’t notice the amused looks from more than half the team, it is quite obvious to anyone that Will has a huge crush on Mackenzie.

Will took the quickest shower and rushed over to Mackenzie, “Alright let’s go.” Will hovered a hand out to Mackenzie as she got up.

Her eyes looked sleepy from the pain medication she was given.

Will hovered right next to Mackenzie as they walked out slowly to Will’s car.

Will watched closely as she got into the car slowly.

“Will i’m okay.” Mackenzie said with a small smile reassuring him, she noticed Will hovering looking worried.

Will slowly nodded and closed the door for her and headed to the drivers seat and started the drive back to the Thorton house.

Will pulled into the driveway and looked over at Mackenzie seemed her face scrunching up in discomfort, “What’s wrong?” He asked in concern.

Mackenzie made an awkward grimace and her cheeks darken, “Uh my period started.” Mackenzie awkwardly told Will not use to talking about it with any of the boys and her ex never wanted to hear a word about it.

“Do you have everything you need?” Will immediately asked looking at her worried and from even seemed phased about her period, he didn’t notice the surprised look from her with how nonchalant he was being about this.

“Yeah.” Mackenzie softly nodded, “I’ll take a bath and that will help everything right now.”Mackenzie knew her body could use a warm bath.

“We can watch a movie after?” Will offered not wanting to leave her alone.

Mackenzie blinked and looked at his hopeful face and nodded and she started getting out of the car.

“I’ll be inside in a few minutes.” Will told her making her nod and she headed back to the guest house she is living in now.

Will watched her get inside before grabbing his phone and calling his sister, “Grace! I need your help.” Will immediately told her when she answered.

“Hello Grace how are you? I’m great thanks for asking little brother.” Grace teased from her dorm room.

Will rolled his eyes fondly, “Sorry Hi Grace. I need your help.”

“Hi! With what?” Grace asked.

“I’m not sure what Mack would like for her period.” Will told her rubbing the back of his head, he thought Mackenzie could use a little present.

Grace raised an eyebrow and slowly nodded, She has heard so much about Mackenzie lately and Grace has seen Will flirting with her, “Like period products or?” Grace double checked her heart warming at Will’s kindness.

“No she said she had everything but like what else do you usually like on your period?” Will asked not likening how clueless he was.

“Most girls want some type of chocolate and usually their favorite snack and or junk food. Something sweet and something salty. Maybe ice cream.” Grace explained to Will knowing it’s extremely different for everyone, “Something soft like a blanket or a stuff animal is always nice to get on your period.” Grace advised her little brother.

“Okay.” Will nodded his phone on speaker as he was door dashing all these things from target.

“She has a heating pad yes?” Grace double checked.

“Yeah she does.” Will nodded remembering seeing one in Mackenzie’s room.

“Okay that that should be good. Where is she now?” Grace asked wanting to be a nosy sister.

Will hummed finalizing the order and was glad to see it would be here in under twenty minutes, “She’s taking a bath.” Will answered.

“Sooo Mackenzie then?” Grace asked teasingly with a large smirk, she has been waiting for the time to tease her little brother about girls and she has never had the chance yet because Will never seemed interested enough in anyone else not until Mackenzie.

“Goodbye Gracie.” Will teased back knowing immediately what she was insinuating.

“I’ll get more out of you.” Grace teased right back knowing she should go ask Ryan because he definitely knows more, “Bye Will.”

Will hung up his phone and grabbed the sweatpants and sweatshirt in the back of his car before heading to the guest house.

He walked in and headed to the other half bath and changed out of his suit quickly and headed to sit on the couch on his phone until his order came and Mackenzie finished her bath.

Will checked his texts and smiled slightly seeing Ryan and Gabe both saying they hope Mackenzie is okay.

He scrolled on his phone until he got the notification for his order and quickly grabbed it and brought everything inside.

Will was taking everything out of the bags when Mackenzie walked out of her room and walked over to him slowly, “What’s all this?” She peeked at everything and perked up seeing her favorite snacks.

“For you.” Will answered, “I called Grace and asked what you might like.”

Mackenzie paused and looked at Will feeling her stomach fluttering slightly which she ignored as her heart squeezed fondly for Will, “You called your sister?”

“Of course i don’t know what exactly you like yet.” Will just shrugged and his cheeks turned pink at her soft look, “Grace said you might like a new blanket.” Will pulled out a red throw blanket and gently set it over her shoulders.

Makenzie smiled to her self her cheeks warming from how kind this is.

“What do you want to eat right now?” Will asked.

“Apples and those chocolates.” Mackenzie decided pointing at one of the bags of chocolate making Will nod having a feeling she would want apples and he keep those two things out and started to put away the rest of the things.

“Do you want to go pick a movie?” Will sadler and she nodded and headed to the large couch that was big enough for them both to comfortable lay on.

Mackenzie grabbed her shark and heating pad and got comfortable under her new blanket.

Will came in with a plate and one of Mackenzie’s water bottles and set them next to her, he had cut and peeled her apples the way she loves and unwrapped the chocolates for her and got her freezing cold water.

Will nodded to himself seeing her looking comfortable before grabbing another blanket and plopping down next to Makenzie.

Mackenzie looked at Will and smiled shaking her head fondly, no one’s ever done all of this for her just because but Will did. Will would be a good boyfriend, to someone else yeah someone. Mackenzie just shook her head not wanting to start thinking of Will like that, yet.

“Thank you. Really this means a lot Will.” Mackenzie gave him a serious look and a grateful smile.

“Anytime Mack.” Will just looked at her and smiled.

Mackenzie’s eyes softened just starring at Will, he is quickly becoming one of her best friends and she grows fonder and fonder of him everyday, she’s lucky to have him.

Mackenzie slowly rested her head on Will’s shoulder and relaxed when he didn’t move away or tense.

Will smiled to himself looking at Mackenzie lying on his shoulder.
